Escape from the Wolf Castle by Petzi 2011-08-23T01:46:00
As someone else whose entry hinges on the inclusion of a bunny, I salute you. Also, the game was quite good.

As someone else whose entry hinges on the inclusion of a bunny, I salute you. Also, the game was quite good.
Very, very, VERY pretty. Atmospheric and lovely. Didn't see much 'challenge', but it was a nice experience.
This is a ridiculously high quality game for 48 hours.
Really is a very pretty little thing.
I pressed '1' and it just sort-of... sat there. Didn't load, sadly.
Seems a bit... 'static', but you made a 'complete package' game here, which is very admirable. Good job!
Didn't really understand where I was going. The mechanics are cool, and the scrolling, and graphics and such are all very accomplished, but I struggled to find any kind of 'objective' and found myself just sort-of wandering, which can only really last so long.
Someone's gone and done a Let's Play of it. I'm not even kidding.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FkC4Fm_57s
Controls seem a bit sluggish, but it's a very nice concept and well executed.
Definitely not bad for a first entry. Seems a bit buggy/laggy in places. Good start, though.
And I wish there was a 'Story' category, because your backstory was really well-written.
Very nice. Good puzzles.
Really very cool. Very clever. I assume the 'killscreen' is the end of the game? Or am I missing some ingenious hidden thing?
Didn't take very long to figure out which button to push, in order to launch the raft. Kinda nifty, but there's not a lot 'to' it.
Very nice idea, a bullet-hell platformer. I'd have loved some more content.
As others have said, the sudden pause when you've jumped is REALLY annoying. Other than that, it's very cool.
I like your approach to sound effects. I like it a lot.
The puzzles you've got in here are REALLY tricky, and very well designed. Good job.
Really cool. I could see it having some kind of cyberpunk 'Running Man' vibe if you expanded on it.
The switches seem to activate weirdly. They don't seem to do anything until you step off them. Dunno if that was intentional, but I found it a little awkward. Otherwise, very nice. Simple.
Won't launch for me, I'm afraid. Just minimises to task bar and sits there.
Pretty nifty. Could do with a wider field of view, since zipping around makes it really hard to avoid stuff that sometimes appears out of nowhere, due to how closely zoomed-in you are.
..Was that dude in a boat throwing eggs at me? Because, as a bird, I'd find that quite ironic.
It's very fun. Reminds me of a Mega Drive intro sequence, but playable. Well done!
Bloody hell, this is good. I really need to learn Unity... Very fitting, and atmospheric, and yes. Amazing.
It's... alright, I suppose? I didn't feel particularly 'alone'. The graphics are nice, but nothing new. The sound is minimal and functional. It sort-of feels like that bit in an RPG where you just kinda grind for a few hours before taking on a boss.
Good for 48 hours, though.
Very pretty, very simple. If you were to take it further, maybe look into a couple more mechanics - They'll afford you a million new level design opportunities.
OH IT'S FINE, I DIDN'T WANT TO SLEEP EVER ANYWAY.
Seriously. Creepy. Awesome. Amazing.
Bit tricky with the perspective/controls, but once I got used to that, there were some really nice puzzles, here.
For a first game, this is absolutely great! You've done a really good job. Very addictive, very 'solid'. Nice work.
Very clever! also very tricky... Nicely done.
Really cool. Nice idea, well implemented. Stylish, too.
Very pretty, but also very short. Still, very nice for what it is.
That music drove me INSANE... But otherwise cool
Very clever. Very, very clever. Really enjoyed it.
Pretty cool, but the bullets are too small...
Loved this. It reminded me of a top-down 'Rampage', which... probably wasn't the point. I haven't managed to have a game where I'm in 'positive' figures, yet. Stomping things is just too much fun...
That music is going to be in my head forever.
Managed to get myself stuck in a group full of enemies. It was like crowdsurfing. I found that hilarious.
That is so RIDICULOUSLY clever! Genius.
Very, very cool. Especially for a first attempt.
A simple, yet amazingly powerful little game. I love how you managed to craft such a good story with two rectangles and some simple graphics.
Very, very well done. One of my favourites.
Had a LOT of fun with this one. Really nice idea, I'd love to see it expanded to something bigger.
That is one of the funniest, most well-written things I've ever played.
Haha, I loved this. A lot more than I probably should've.
Absolutely beautiful. Need this as a full game, thanks.
Aww, that's nifty! I noticed after the first couple of attempts that part of the skill comes in figuring out which castles you can safely stomp on, which was clever. Might've been unintentional, though.
Also, don't know if this was just me, but I think I had a bit of a bug where, when retrying, some of the castles I destroyed in the last attempt were still destroyed.
I was doing really well, until I instinctively pressed 'Escape' to pause, and ended up going back to the title screen...
Really enjoyed it, though. Y'know how you have a yellow line for the sun? Could you make the lines that point to the other planets different colours, depending on what class they are?
Think I managed to trap him under some wood, then drowned to death.
I liked the fact that his girlfriend, when present, stole all the good stuff that came down. Very realistic...
Nifty. Kept trying to drown them all. Eventually succeeded. Probably says a lot about me...
Very good. Very clever. And very pretty, with clean and simple design. Good job!
I think maaaaybe you made the levels too long. But! I liked the music and the mechanics were well-implemented. I've got a soft spot for twin-stick shooters. Oh, and the loading screen was great.
Well, that was... odd. I think I just released the Ultimate Evil by getting all emo over an egg. Cool.
Not really sure what I'm doing, but... it looks cool?
One of my dudes decided to build a windmill, and the rest went swimming for about ten minutes. I'm not sure what I'm MEANT to be doing, but that was cool.
That... is... AWESOME! Holy crap, I can see myself actually paying money for a longer version of this. Gamepad support would've been nice (I used Xpadder anyway, though).
Ahh yes, the ever-popular 'masochistic platformer'. Made one of these myself. Good stuff! The music's a bit repetitive, though.
That was really, honestly, incredibly clever. Like a sort-of 2D Heavy Rain. Good job!
Cool, but really unforgiving.
It's cool, but I am REALLY bad at it. I keep getting killed by my own flamethrower. I've kept it downloaded, though, so I'll more than likely go back to it.
Question. Why did you choose to have that restrictive field of view? It seems sort-of pointlessly limiting?
I really like the carpet, by the way.
Pretty cool. Kinda lo-fi, DOS-style. The collision detection's a bit iffy, and some background music would've been nice, but other than that, yeah.
Collecting the last few things was PAAAAAAAAAAAAINFULLY slow (I guess that's the point, though), but that ending screen was totally worth it. Now I feel good about myself. Good job!
Everybody go home, Sos just won the internet forever.
Also, thought for you: Everybody in this world BUT for 'Badass' is apparently a hipster, which makes them... the mainstream? And thus no longer hipsters? 'Badass', being the only one of his kind, is therefore the MOST hipster, and should surely beat himself up?
...I'm thinking too far into this, aren't I?
I got a 'beautiful end'. Dunno if there's separate endings, but... that's what I got. The typos are really aggravating, but the implementation of the theme with separate types of gameplay is very nice.
Veeeeery cool. Small suggestion; can you make it so that if you hold down the mouse button, you shoot/attack continuously? All that clicking got a bit monotonous.
Yeah, I got to the end and thought "Man, you can tell this guy ran out of time", which was really kinda sad because what you'd got going was REALLY bloody good. I, too, struggle with the isometric controls, but that's not really your fault - It's just me being a derp.
I really liked this. Please, continue to make it into something further.
I found that I got the best results from just kinda sitting in a corner and hammering the 'Z' button, and then the mid-level, erm, 'boss' thing required me to... sit there and hammer the 'Z' button. So it gave my finger a good work-out! Loved the music, too.
But why was there poop?
Simple idea, but very challenging.
Dunno whether this is intentional, but I couldn't move at the start, so I couldn't actually DO anything to level up and just kept dying, which felt a bit naff. Cool idea, though.
The whole time I was playing, I kept thinking "PLEASE DON'T LET IT DIE AT THE END". Thankfully, it didn't, but then I had to eventually close the game and that made me sad...
This is really, really good.
I must be too dense to understand this, because I spent pretty much the entire time wondering what was going on. Along the way, I'm pretty sure I leaked gooey brain matter out of my ears.
The pictures were pretty, though.
Every time I went to run it, I got 'unexpected error while running the game'. :(
I was doing quite well, and then I got to like, 9 at once, or something, and THEN my ball fell through the floor. It's REALLY cool, and I'd like to see you take it further after the competition.
Good effort. The jumping is kinda iffy, the collision detection's a bit off, BUT! You DO have parallax scrolling and I'm a sucker for that, so well done!
Really cool! I, too, have often wondered why nobody's made a game consisting entirely of boss battles from the 2D Legend of Zelda games. So I'm glad you did!
Aaaaaactually hilarious. Lost it at 'Windows needs to install updates'. Really very good indeed. Well done!
Also, leaving comments is hard. This is now a comment about leaving comments.
Holy crap, that got really intense really fast. I found myself clicking off the screen a lot, but that's probably my own derpiness.
Bahaha, that was awesome. FEAR THE ALMIGHTY WRATH OF MY GODLY FLIP-FLOP.
REALLY clever, but very difficult. Could've done with some music.
That was really pretty. Quite well-written, good graphics but as someone previously commented, I'd have liked more choice. There are some things I actually felt myself getting angry about, when they happened (particularly the ending - I got ending #1). Please consider going further with this, and writing in more choice.
The music certainly gave it a level of drama! Very cool.
Really clever. I first took the 'modern' route (after doing the previous levels, I figured I could handle it), but then a game-breaking bug meant I had to restart, so I took the 'ancient' route. Really like what you did there.
Unfortunately, don't have anyone to play it with, but I tried playing against myself and it seems really simple and clever. Kinda like rock-paper-scissors, with cavemen and guns.
Really cool idea. Broken as hell, but a cool idea.
That was fun! Like a particularly good screensaver. Although, THOSE BASTARDS KILLED FRANK.
ARRRRRRRRRRRGH. I wish you hadn't done that 'Flash game' thing of putting in REALLY grindy upgrades, especially when you then require actual skill to progress anyway. I got to my 59th iteration before I thought "Nope, I'm never going to do this". I was awful at trigonometry at school anyway.
It's really cool, but it gets really old, pretty quick.
HOLY BALLS THIS IS AMAZING.
THE GAME IS IMPOSSIBLE.
That is all.
It took me a lot longer than I'd like to admit to figure out that running into toxic barrels is a GOOD thing. Before that, I figured I was just meant to be finding stuff.
A bit confusing and pretty easy to get lost, and that music track got REEEEEEALLY annoying after a while. Movement was a bit slow, too. Maybe put in a mini-map or a waypoint arrow thing or something.
Really liked it, though. Very charming.
Well, that was certainly a thing. I think the word 'Click' at the start was the only part I really understood.
Fun to watch, though.
This is adorable. You know things are bad when a three-year-old draws better game graphics than you do... I really enjoyed this! Thank her (and yourself) for me.
Today, I learned that at the dawn of time, not a lot happened.
Ahh! I closed the game and the music kept going! Game's pretty cool but, as someone else mentioned, that 2nd level is SO empty. It got really confusing, scrolling around on a static blue background - It was like I wasn't going anywhere.
Everything else is awesome, though
An INCREDIBLY pretty game, with a bit of 'Ecco the Dolphin' about it (or at least, I thought so). Stopping the levelling at 3 seemed a bit silly, though. I sort-of ran out of things to DO after a while, but it was enough to just kinda drift around and listen to the music.
Wow. I am absolutely awful at it, but I give you bonus points for letting me massacre kittens, after all the bloody talk of them because of that damned joke theme...
I held the mouse button down until the game crashed. Kinda like an interactive screensaver, and a bit like Electroplankton. Pretty cool.
I like how the feature list in your description is things that AREN'T in the game. I'm a bit confused as to what I'm meant to be doing, but I think I see the basic idea, which is interesting.
Really cool, if a bit short (assuming the game ends in that room with everything behind a BEAUTIFUL RED VELVET ROPE). I could see this being a fuller game, well done.
Really cool - Like a sort-of lo-fi Smash TV.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrgh, the soldier/tank/alien level is bloody impossible. Bonus points for getting me to ragequit, I think.
Very cute! I would've liked to have seen more done with the 'intermediate' evolutions, but I think that was probably just a time limit thing. Also, although there isn't particularly a penalty for dying (or even a way to die), it felt a bit cheap that there were certain parts you had to get through via trial-and-error, but nothing massively aggravating.
Very cool!
Would've been cool if there was a SLIGHT gameplay-related change each time. Not even something you'd immediately notice, like... moving the enemies two pixels to the left, or something.
It won't load for me, just gets stuck on 'loading libraries', which is really sad because, from the looks of things, it's amazing.
Obviously very short, but really well-made. Gonna go play the Jam entry now, see how things progress!
...Did I just kill a bunch of astronauts?
Devilishly clever. I trust you'll be fleshing this out into something bigger?
Interesting choice of music. Very fun!
Really nice idea, but it's a bit too easy to just trap the hero in a corridor and keep spawning skeletons nearby. I could see this being a fully-fledged thing, though.
That was actually THE best game I've ever played. I particularly liked how restarting each scene could get quite annoying. Very meta.
I HAVE EATEN THREE HUNDRED GOATS.
I do actually feel quite bad about killing that goat... Very clever!
There's something gloriously fantastic about everything you do, really, isn't there?
I always KNEW piracy was evil, and funded global terrorist organisations! I'm not just saying this to echo what you said, but this is a very 'you' game. I love your simple 3D. I would pay actual real cash money for an entire game world built in it.
I really like this and think it's very clever, but it's bloody impossible. The music's great, too.
Ha, I didn't know you could even cheat in the last minigame. I actually hate that one, since it decided to just... not work (hence the ugly fix, I do apologise). The collision detection in the racing game is meant to have 'depth' to it, in that your handlebars can go in front of the cars on the top, since you're technically in front of them, but that's kinda hard to do with my, ahem, 'limited' art skills.
I am AMAZEd by this game.
Once I got going, I managed to get to level 10, which I think is a pretty good achievement. I really liked this, but it's REALLY hard to begin with.
Yes. Yes to all of this. SO yes. Amazing graphics, too.
I like this. It really made me think. Intrigued.
Oh my GOD that's sad! It's also really clever and fantastic. Well done!
Don't mind me - Haven't voted, can't run it. Just wondering if leaving a comment and hitting 'save' will take it away from my ratings page. Again, I haven't voted.
Ahhhh, the music! It's infecting my braaaaaaain!
...Also really cool game.
Absolutely amazing use of the theme, really clever, innovative gameplay. Liked the music, the mechanics, even the way you 'taught' the player what to do. Very good.
Oddly atmospheric. Very clever mechanic, nice to have lots of different ways of beating each level. I like it!
Ahh, this game makes me feel like a moron. I feel like I SHOULD know what I'm meant to be doing, but I don't. Which is actually a really good thing, since it's making my brain work.
Good job!
I started off confused, and never got any less confused, but I think I enjoyed being confused. Also your playable character was very cute.
This is fantastic. It feels like an entire genre distilled into its basic form. Very, very clever. My only criticism is that it feels like a couple of the enemies' patterns are literally unavoidable.
Ha, I love your 'final boss'! Good stuff.
It's cool, but you could fix your steep difficulty curve by maybe saving the progress you make along the bottom when you die.
Really cool. Reminds me of Thirty Flights of Loving, with a bit of Proteus in there. Can't wait to see more.
Sweet, 8300. I really enjoyed this. I found a bit of a glitch, though - If you walk off the edge of a vertically-moving platform, you carry on moving as if you were on it, so you can basically walk through the air.
Haha, I love your little easter egg thing at the end. This game's really good. Very simple (obviously), very challenging, very well-executed. Good stuff.
Couldn't get it to run, I'm afraid. Just kept closing when I went to open it.
Very cool. A unique mechanic, good use of the theme, fair bit of gameplay, nice music.
Ingenious. A really clever mechanic with some great implementation. I'd like to see this expanded into a bigger game. Good job!
Ha, I like it. Very simple.
The theme for the last LD was "You Are The Villain". This would've fit in MUCH better with that, since 'rescuing' Comic Sans makes me feel like I'm committing some sort of crime.
Simple, but effective. A nice idea, well executed. Good stuff.
That was amazing. Really clever use of an interesting mechanic, great ambience, taught me about the subtleties of movement. And THAT REWARD!
I'm a better person for having played this game.
"Give me pleasure with arrow keys". Remembering that line. Will use it next time I'm trying to be seductive. Really cool. I particularly like how you can actually just kinda avoid the enemies, if you're of a pacifist nature.
I really enjoyed this. A very clever, unique, original experience.
I feel like I'm playing art. Apparently because I AM, but in a good way. I noticed a lot of other games referencing whoever this art guy is, but yours seems most 'inventive'.
The gravity mechanic is awesome. Don't take this the wrong way, but I always expect something hilarious yet probably-not-that-clever from you (I'd like to think we're kindred spirits, in that regard). This, on the other hand, is genuinely clever.
You and your balls, Icarus. You and your balls... Always with the balls.
As ever, simple, pretty, atmospheric, really fun, makes me feel like an idiot. In a good way.
Games like this always make me feel like an idiot, but in a good way. It's really clever, and I'm ashamed to admit I passed most of the levels by blindly moving tiles around until something worked.
Made for much smarter folks than me, I think. But very good! Great interpretation of the theme.
Oops, hadn't added the Source link. It's there, now. :)
It's weird, on the surface this looks like a typical shooting game, but it's actually a really clever puzzle game. I've never had to think so much trying to shoot things... Cool stuff!
Just hangs on waiting for connection, I'm afraid.
Simple idea, well implemented.
That hunt for the last one! Oh my gosh. I only found it because I discovered you can jump over the holes in the floor at the beginning and kinda 'fall off' the world, and I saw the location of the last one as I plummeted into oblivion.
Good stuff. Took me 8:30.
Made it to level 11. Feeling quite proud of myself. You should ALSO feel proud of yourself, because those are the nicest tentacles I've seen in a while. Also amazing sound effects. Really good job.
That was the MOST fun day out I've ever had, especially as a snail. I too would like to one day become a rap superstar, and shall take all that I've learned from this game into my future. This has changed my life.
Very atmospheric. Nice graphics, tricky gameplay. Good stuff.
Apparently, I am the best hunk. That makes me feel good inside. I also feel like I ought to go and arbitrarily add some women to my game for no reason other than to pass the Bechedel test, now...
One of those games that really makes you think.
That. Was. Amazing. Game of the Year 2014.
Amazing for 48 hours, and for your first game, and just in general, really. I love the animation of the little dude fixing things. Really good.
Thank you for making a game where your decisions actually matter, for once. Refreshing and well-executed.
Neat. Like a text-based FPS. The music and sound effects were amazing. Really high quality production for a twine game. Good stuff.
Really good gameplay. Weird bug where every single gun in the whole level shot continually for about a second at the start, but I overcame that and beat the game. Solid game. Good stuff.
Thank you for making the 'reward' for winning a screen where I get to endlessly watch myself explode. Never thought I'd play a game where death is so aesthetically pleasing. Good job.
Jesus Christ Wade, this game unsettled the crap out of me. Bloody brilliant. Accidentally tense? Also that BOP noise and the chanting... All that in 48 hours? You're a machine.
I love a game I can get lost in, and this is definitely one of those, because... I did. The clicking noise was a bit annoying, but I guess you can't be picky when you're a MECHSPIDER. Laser beams out of its face and everything. Brilliant.
Unfortunately ran like butts on my PC, which is obviously not your fault. Won't be rating, just wanted you to know I'd at least attempted it. :)
Well, as it turns out, I'm a monster. But on the plus side, at least I finished my chores.
Really enjoyed this. Actually ended up having to go on a massive killing spree BEFORE doing anything though, just to save myself the hassle of offing people later on and OH GOD I AM a monster.
Very clever idea, well iterated. I feel like I learned something, to be honest. I actually don't 'code' at all when making my games, so this was kinda enlightening to see what's actually going on BENEATH THE SURFACE (I noticed how that fit in, well done).
Cool controls and mechanics, but I feel like I maybe bugged the game? I killed three tanks, and then there wasn't anything else to kill.
Regardless, great atmosphere, very pretty, nice and crisp to control. Another winner from you.
NO idea what happened there. I temporarily uploaded to Dropbox because Gamejolt was down at the time of submission. Went to bed, woke up, everything's on fire. Now it's over on Gamejolt, hopefully all is well.
I THINK that might be your end? It was made on Windows 7 32-bit and runs okay here.
Really nice idea. The story was lovely, although the ending was very 'abrupt'. Also, after upgrading the boat once, I felt like I was just sort-of doing the same thing over and over again, and spent most of my time waiting for the fish to respawn.
Very solid, though. Enjoyed it!
That was really sweet! Also, thoroughly enjoyed the vast quantity of what undeniably sounds like fart noises. Great gameplay, clever interpretation of the theme, good stuff.
EXCELLENT game. Brilliant premise, well-executed, great to look at. All around fantastic.
It's SO clever. Maybe a couple of extra instructions would've been nice, as it took me a while at the start to even figure out how to get anywhere, but the idea itself is so original and brilliant.
Excellent. Managed to punch many, many people in the face and found myself left wondering what I even went in to buy in the first place.
Much like in real life, I'm stuck trying to find a friend. Other than that, really enjoyed it. Will inevitably come back to this later, to try and figure it out, because otherwise it'll bug me.
Aww, I feel so sad for... myself! Excellent use of the theme, nice music, great presentation. Simple idea, well executed.
Ah, the 'ad' is just a channel I run. I cross-promote everything as I think it'll drive more people towards LD etc. Everyone wins!
Also the dosh counter in the level shows how much you've accumulated on that run. All your total dosh is still there in the shop. Thanks for playing!
Challenging little game, with a fun idea. I dunno why these kids are so against me getting some sweet candy. THEY are the real monsters, if you ask me..
Good stuff. Like being a cannibalistic M&M in a packet of entirely blue M&Ms.
Nothing makes me care more about a gameplay objective quite like "Stop there being a starfish stuck on that poor girl's armpit". I laughed, I cried, I swatted at sealife on an anime schoolgirl. It was an experience.
