The long download and setup was totally worth it! Very sad and creepy.

Interesting surreal explorer. I love how the fog just barely keeps you from seeing the next light-orb.

Kudos also for the sound-effects. They are noticeable, but so subtle I thought they came from outside (i.e. not from the game)

OH IT'S FINE, I DIDN'T WANT TO SLEEP EVER ANYWAY.

Seriously. Creepy. Awesome. Amazing.

Nice work, very interesting and engaging.

Can't run it... UDK installation asks me for licence, then crashes and apologizes for any inconvenience.

Win XP with geforce 8800, normally UDK stuff runs...

magnolia_fan 2011-12-25 19:50

Hi, that is weird. Did you get any missing DLL message, or does it just crash? Do you click "accept" when you get the license prompt?
I don't have WinXP so I can't try myself, but I've read on XP you need to have installed SP3 and the Visual C redist 2008. Maybe that helps in any way. I was going to include the redist files on the zipfile but that would make the file even bigger :(

shigor 2011-12-26 12:19

just crashes after I hit accept. I've got several visual studios and redisributables on my comp, I don't think that's problem...
What version of UDK are you using? I (very vaguely) seem to remember that first few versions contained some very stupid bug which caused crash on non-english windows. Can't remember what I've used to go around it

magnolia_fan 2011-12-26 22:09

I'm using the november 2011 build. One of the computers I tried it on is in spanish (the other one in english) so I don't think that may be a problem.
Another option may be that you don't have admin rights? People on Vista who have no admin rights have the program crash suring the license thing.
Now this would be like the last resort: open an (admin) command prompt inside the binaries folder (where the unsetup.exe file resides) and type "unsetup.exe /eula" What the udk game is trying to do is (for some reason) register the game installation (not sure why it asks to do this, and I don't know if it can be skipped altogether).

Getting an error... MSVCR100.dll not found. :( (Windows Vista)

magnolia_fan 2011-12-29 18:50

Hi, you either need Visual C++ 2008 Redist http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=10015 (32 bit) / http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16771 (64bit) or Visual C++ 2010 Redist http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555 (32bit) / http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=14632 (64bit).

Sorry for the inconvenience :(

It was interesting and I wanted to finish the story, but I am not sure how much game there is here. The exploration is very limited, but that could have been offset by a little more on the story.

magnolia_fan 2011-12-31 15:22

Yeah, I could only work on it 23 hours because I had to go out a lot, and there were a lot of things that I wanted to add to the forest that are not there, like a section with little hanging cross-like things à la Blair Witch Project, and letting players enter the room that "you're not supposed to enter" inside the house :(
I'm looking into making the full version, though, so I can add more than just exploration and a lot more to the story. I'll start running a kickstarter for this soon.

raptor85 2012-01-02 22:07

attempted to test under wine but unfortunately it crashes instantly.

ghostonline 2012-01-05 20:34

This game was initially just another game that would not run. Thankfully the tips you gave to make it run worked and it definitely was worth the effort. Nice game and definitely loved the atmosphere.

magnolia_fan 2012-01-06 06:27

@Raptor85: I don't know how wine works, so I don't know if my tips about missing libraries would be of any help? Also, on Windows, on the first run the game asks for admin rights, maybe that's causing the crash on wine?

@ghostonline: I'm glad you got it to work and liked it! :)

evan-greenwood 2012-01-08 17:17

Grest atmosphere. Beautiful.

The snivelling sounds were a little weird... some footstep sounds and really soft ambiences could have been quite powerful?

Really impressive!

magnolia_fan 2012-01-09 20:22

Hi, too bad I am not good with audio design and such, and the audio was the weakest point of the game, and if I manage to make the full version (I'm running an IndieGoGo campaign for that right now), I'll make sure to get someone really talented to take on that aspect :)

keenblaze 2012-01-11 12:54

Looks great!
