As an interactive experience, I thought the game was great - it was moody and suspenseful. The music and sound fx really contributed to creating an eerie weird world. However, as per some of the comments above, it wasn't much of a game, i.e. no progression, goals, enemies, etc...

Cool sprites and retro filters! I definitely appreciated the old-skool style. The gameplay felt a little hollow though. Perhaps if you wanted to develop this further, you could make more of a visual connection when the player gets the upgrades, e.g. he buys a car and all of a sudden the character is driving around in a car for instance.

You're definitely on to a cool game idea here - there's a lot of potential on how you could develop this further. The pieces could perhaps be little creatures (like Squinkeys) or something. Technically I like the camera work and the graphics in general. I did find that all my stuff would get clogged up between the gaps though - perhaps completely rounded shapes would work a little better.

Dude! This game is so excellent I don't know where to start :) Art: loved your cartoon style - the floating space monster piqued my interest as soon as I saw it. I absolutely love Turn based strategy - as soon as I figured out all the rules I was hooked (finished it 2nd time around yay!). You've also incorporated the theme appropriately and seamlessly. The lack of sound strangely enough was not a big deal for me, but even if you had a simple soundtrack (garage band is awesome for this) and perhaps af3sfxr to make simple sound effects it would have been just that much cooler. Still, awesome game I would play this again!

Fun game! I'm a big fan of retro style games. I always love a good geometry wars game so this was cool for me! I have a few things that would help improve:
1. Get rid of the screen shake when you're firing
2. Bound the player within the screen (you can float out accidently)
3. Allow the player to fire continuously (no reloads)

Love the retro look and feel of the game. The scan lines were pretty cool like an old school monitor! The only criticisms I have are for the actual game play - the enemies follow you too precisely - perhaps make them lag behind you a little. Also at the start you need far too much precision to pick up the food - perhaps expand the collision detection a little more.

Cool graphics and very nice piano music! It motivated me to play further. Gameplay-wise there are 2 things that could be improved: 1. Variation - the collection aspect seemed to get a bit repetitive after a few minutes 2. Collision with those star things could pretty much reduce your health from 100% to 0% - perhaps once you are hit, have 0.5-1s before you can be hit again.

Dude, wow I absolutely love the ultra-retro ascii graphics!!! I'm actually a bit inspired now to make an ascii game like those ascii art videos! The only down side to the game was actually in the game play - the jump/fall is too fast. I couldn't for the life of me get past the second floor - kept hitting the X up high.

Overall though loved the originality!

1 Frustrating gameplay - too many punishing factors e.g.:
1a falling through the gaps to easily
1b getting stunned from bonking your head (I'd remove this)
2 The gaps for the first level seem to take quite a while to cycle around

Great retro shooter, I loved the music and the old style look. 2 things that would vastly improve the game: 1. Have more enemies on screen, and perhaps have them die on one hit, 2. The weapon upgrades are too similar, make them more different, e.g. different colors, fire shots out at different angles, vary the speed etc..
