LD21 — Escape

Hotel Escape by pgil 2011-08-27T01:53:00

If it hadn't been for the comments here I would have hated it.

The first two times I ran the game I couldn't quit aside from killing the process, hah. It wouldn't recognize me pressing the ESC key until I did "run as administrator". So that was kinda painful. Once I read the comments here and figured out what was supposed to happen, I got it to work and then it was cool.

AWOL by quickfingers 2011-08-22T17:25:00

Great game, really fun, and it looks great too. Once you play it for a while you really start to get the flow and it actually has a lot of depth. There's nothing more satisfying than flying into the air, turning into a tank, shooting down an enemy plane, and then turning back into a plane... except for when you do it while doing a backflip, hah :)

My highest score is 5900, but I bet I could pass 6000 or 7000 if I played a little bit more.

LD22 — Alone

Leave my Lettuce Alone :( by NeiloGD 2011-12-19T19:39:00

Nice game, ran great for me. I think the lettuce adds a lot to the gameplay of the game, rather than just splitting them up, you actually have to try to keep them away from the lettuce as well. The flocking mechanics are interesting, and actually seem quite believable, they really do seem like a bunch of silly flat bunnies hopping around.

I Wanna Be the Fishy by frosty 2011-12-19T19:08:00

Was fun for a bit. The fish swim animation looks nice. I liked it at first, but it got a little too frustrating for my liking later on. The hitboxes on the enemy objects are way too big, I'd often hit something even though I was still a few pixels away from it.

Afrocity Atrocity by Sos 2011-12-20T02:23:00

So... it was really pretty fun. The music is the best part imho, really sets the mood. The graphics are crazy, especially in havoc mode. My only issues are that it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the theme... and the actually "get the gem" mechanic is just frustrating rather than fun. Why not have the gem appear in the same spot every time? The way it is right now you have to be completely lucky just to see it and get to it in time. I did finally manage to get it though.

Abandoned by Noel Berry 2011-12-20T02:05:00

Great game Noel! Love the art, love the feel of the game and the mechanics. Once I got the feel of the grappling hooks, it felt really good. Smart puzzles too, lots of potential here.

Alone In Space by BleuLlama 2011-12-19T06:26:00

Pretty fun. I kinda wish there were enemies or something else to do, I ended up just holding the arrow keys and tapping f a lot. Cool idea though, really like the minimap and the physicsy feel to the whole thing. The fireworks are also a nice touch :)

Never Alone Hotline by Pierrec 2011-12-19T13:58:00

Great game. I think the writing is actually quite good, especially for a non-native speaker. Using pulsate to make the music was brilliant, it fits the game perfectly.

Nobody Wants Kitty by philhassey 2011-12-20T01:54:00

Nice work, a surprisingly fun game. Having to go all the way back down at the end was actually pretty tricky.

Cirque du Seul by ian_snyder 2011-12-20T01:15:00

Really nice art, and the story is kinda fun. Not a whole ton of actual "game" here, per se, but it was still entertaining.

TownAlone[DISTRICT 214] by nuprahtor 2011-12-20T03:52:00

Great atmosphere, and it looks really cool. I didn't really know what to do after a few minutes of exploring.

Ravenwood by Danik 2011-12-19T13:38:00

Great little game. I love the style and the fact that it runs at 60fps, it feels very smooth and fluid. The "stay out of the rain" mechanic seems pretty cool, although I never really got hurt at all so I didn't even need to use it.

The end was a little anti-climactic, but it was enjoyable anyway... and I found the secret place, woulda been fun if there was something to do there, hah :)

Final Trip Soccer by Benjamin 2011-12-27T06:37:00

Fantastic game overall. Super impressive that this was made in only 48 hours. I found the actual gameplay a bit slow/frustrating at some points, but overall a really cool game.

Last breath by deepnight 2011-12-19T19:28:00

Fantastic game. Great intro, great atmosphere, great everything.

The game did seem really hard at first, but after I realized that the shadow was me, it actually wasn't that hard at all. I just had to remember to pause in certain spots to give myself time to jump over later, etc.

Step Off by intmain 2011-12-22T16:11:00

Great little game. Wish it didn't take so long to get all 40 items though.

Always Alone by Jake Birkett 2011-12-19T06:38:00

Great game! Probably the best use of the theme I've seen so far. A nice simple mechanic executed well. The Psychotics level took forever for me to clear, hah! :)

3 Missing, 4am by Sophie Houlden 2011-12-19T07:01:00

Really awesome. There is a *ton* of mood in this game, it reminded me a lot of playing Alan Wake (in a good way). Played it to the end, loved the generator "surprise" (at least, I thought it was surprising).

Farrokh by DoktorAce 2011-12-20T01:21:00

Great game. The art and sound are super solid. I love the super low-res 3D feel. It gives it a weird retro-yet-futuristic feel. The gameplay is really intuitive, and there are a lot of nice subtle touches, especially the way the planet loops around.

"Confessions of a Plumber" by Jasper Stocker 2011-12-20T04:00:00

Strangely enjoyable. I think I was running around town with about 20 people chasing after me. The fighting is kind of horrible (just click a lot), but the rest is fun.

Puppy Shelter by increpare 2011-12-20T03:46:00

Great puzzle mechanic, and the "put the dogs down" part is hilarious. Really solid game, and it ties the theme in perfectly. Sound was minimal, but even that single sound at the start of the levels really fit in.

Leave Me Alone! by blahoink 2011-12-19T19:12:00

Hah, bizarre game. Kinda fun for a little bit, although it never really got difficulty, just kinda kept tapping space.

Craequ by Jonathan Whiting 2011-12-19T06:18:00

Great game. I didn't finish it (assuming that's possible), but I played for a little while. The room-moving concept is pretty cool, and I was surprised at how quickly I figured it out.

Great audio and visuals too, really solid.

The Word Alone by Matt Rix 2011-12-22T04:59:00

BlueShaman: thanks for pointing that out, small hit areas bug me too. I swear I made sure they were correct at one point, but I guess I screwed them up somehow later, heh.

ZERO2 by kato9 2011-12-22T00:57:00

Great art style, really fun to go through, made me wish it kept going.

Little blue box by bms 2011-12-19T13:29:00

Nice game. A little frustrating at times, but I did manage to finish it. I really liked how the platforms themselves had physics and started spinning as I jumped off them.

Best Friend by TestSubject06 2011-12-19T19:01:00

Great little game. Got both endings pretty quickly.

I think this is a great use of the theme, most games I've seen seem to be just showing someone that's alone or lonely, but yours starts with multiple characters that *end up* alone, rather than starting alone.

Alone in the Crane by evilindiegames 2011-12-22T01:05:00

Great little game. I thought the mechanic was really smart. I know kibertoad said it's been done before, but seriously there are hundreds of games every LD, it's not like we can expect everyone to play all of them.

The graphics are solid, the lighting is a bit weird but it's not a big deal. Really liked the textures on the blocks and the screen shake when they dropped, gave them a lot of weight. I think there's a lot more polish here than most people are seeing.

Forever alone Simulator 2012 by King_Pancake 2011-12-19T06:04:00

Baaaaaallllllinnng

Zombie in love must remain alone. by DiThi 2011-12-20T04:05:00

Absolutely gorgeous looking game, I especially love the trees, but the whole thing has tons of style. Shame there isn't more of an actual game here yet, but there's a lot of potential.

Long Walk Home by JAH2488 2011-12-19T06:30:00

Pretty cool. I had a lot of fun just wandering around, but I couldn't really tell what the point was. Nice looking game, the overall style is solid.

ROM CHECK FAIL WITHOUT A CAUSE by ExciteMike 2011-12-19T12:51:00

Entertaining, although I agree with the others that this breaks some of the jam rules (especially about bringing pre-made assets and all that). Fun, and nice way to twist it so that you're "alone".

LD23 — Tiny World

Invaders From Space by smvilar 2012-04-23T04:05:00

I like it.

LD24 — Evolution

Shape the World! by Cyboot 2012-09-15T01:08:00

Pretty cool idea, was a little weird to play, but has a lot of potential. Definitely love the whole shape configurator thing.

FOR THE darWIN by TravisChen 2012-08-28T15:19:00

Great looking game, and pretty fun too!

Evolution Strategy (Web) by Kickerua 2012-09-15T01:05:00

This is a neat idea, I think if the upgrades were more often then it'd definitely be pretty fun to play. My game is actually really similar except that you control the units as well as the upgrades.

Evolution Defense by franklyn 2012-08-27T15:54:00

Nice game, upgrades were well balanced and fun!

Revolution by BrothersT 2012-08-28T20:51:00

Great game! I actually made something really similar (in concept) for the Global Game Jam a few months ago: http://struct.ca/games/cycle/

Dino Dare by Biv Game Studios 2012-09-15T01:12:00

KInda fun to play for a bit, got a little laggy after a while though.

Darwin Games 2012 by Bemmu 2012-08-27T14:49:00

Pretty sweet, I wish there was a bit more predictability but it's interesting anyway!

Evolution Stew by vede 2012-08-27T15:47:00

Nice game, fun to try out different combinations!

Cellception by DiG 2012-08-27T15:29:00

Kinda fun but seems a little too osmos-y. Also I think you might have a memory leak because every time I restart the game runs slower and slower.

DrumBeat Evolution!!!! by Crushenator 2012-09-15T00:49:00

Pretty fun to play with, not much of a game though, and the connection to the theme is a bit weak.

Slimy Things Did Crawl by rhill 2012-09-15T00:28:00

This is one of the best uses of the theme I've seen yet. It was a little frustrating, but overall very cool. I managed to get bronze on all the levels, and gold on at least 5 or 6 before I stopped playing.

green & purple by Brian Crick 2012-08-27T15:08:00

Great looking game, love how you did the titles.

I managed to complete the game, I didn't understand exactly how my choices would change the future choices, but the shattering destruction of the unpicked choice was a neat effect.

Cuboid Sandbox by cominu 2012-09-05T15:30:00

This is fantastic! Since it's a jam entry, there's no source... so any way you could share how you did the ambient occlusion on the cubes? They look really pretty.

Hoppy! by ElScootro 2012-09-15T01:00:00

This actually has a lot of potential to be fun, but the collision detection is *really* bad. There also isn't much connection to the theme at all.

Conway's Revenge by Nick Knowlson 2012-09-15T01:37:00

Pretty fun to play around with!

Natural Selection: breeding by God by ripatti 2012-08-27T15:59:00

Fun game! The gameplay seems super similar to Doodle God, but it does fit the theme really well.

Super Clew Land by Team Clew 2012-08-28T16:32:00

Fantastic game guys! Great art, great gameplay, fit the theme really well too. The really tricky stretch leading up to the ending was balanced just right; it took a few tries but it wasn't impossibly difficult.

Many Mans and the Mutant Clones from Space by Jamin 2012-09-15T00:02:00

This game has absolutely nothing to do with the theme, but it's surprisingly fun to play. I probably spent over 20 minutes playing it, and can now survive for over a minute at a time.

Bacon by RandomM00 2012-09-14T20:47:00

This was actually really fun, the laser-pig was just the right difficulty (took me 5-6 tries before I beat him).

Boxy the Boxcat in Evolution Escapades by matthias_zarzecki 2012-09-15T01:18:00

Kinda fun :)

Microbe Madness! by Matt Rix 2012-08-29T12:25:00

@xhunterko yeah the little guys do change, the problem is that I ran out of time so I didn't get a chance to balance the game properly, so most people either win or lose before the first "evolutionary leap" happens.

If you play the post-compo version, the pacing of the game is a lot better because I actually had time to play it! :) http://struct.ca/games/madness

Dorobou Neko! by pythong 2012-08-28T20:54:00

Pretty fun! It's impressive how you go the flat gameplay and the isometric playthrough both working, that was a really cool approach.

My only complain is that the mouse feels like it's stuck in molasses, which made the whole game a bit more annoying to play. Why use a custom mouse cursor at all?

EVO - X by GFM 2012-09-15T01:33:00

Controls felt a little laggy/frustrating, but other than that it was pretty cool.

Evidently by jamioflan 2012-08-27T15:21:00

Awesome game. Felt surprisingly strategic actually. Insane mode came at just the right time when I was starting to get a little bored!

Evolutionary Designer by FrozenCow 2012-08-27T14:50:00

This is really cool. Uphill is tricky!

Evoland by ncannasse 2012-08-27T06:42:00

I had the same problem as Materie. The only clue I have is "push the rocks" but I've tried pushing all 5 rocks I can get to from all 4 directions, and none of them does anything. Maybe it's a bug?

Uberlution by Robotic 2012-08-27T15:39:00

Wow this is really good! Love the art, especially the way the bright objects glow in the dark. The way you evolve your senses is neat too. It's *really* hard to find someone edible when you're at the first level, but once I did it was sweet.

Uberlution by Robotic 2012-08-27T18:52:00

@4urentertainment "Having it so that I can see the enemies before they see me would make a great difference."

"I think adding some visual indicator of who is smaller than me and who is bigger is crucial"

If you evolve your senses past the first level you can basically do that! :)

DNA_Evolution by dj_pale 2012-09-15T00:33:00

Decent game, pretty fun to play, although I think it might be better without having to flip the pieces at all.

LD45 — Start with nothing

The drop to the top by jk5000 2019-10-08T13:58:36Z

Neat game. Love the rimlit look of the pieces. I think the physics feel a bit too floaty, and it would be good if the players just had a tad more control.

Nobody's Journey by Phyro 2019-10-15T19:46:29Z

Fun game, a little confusing but seems like it has potential.

World Collector by Joe Williamson 2019-10-08T14:15:19Z

This is great! Really smart mechanic and level design. Not sure the music fits the game quite right, but it's still really well made, especially considering the 48 hour timeframe. Solid.

Hettinger by ansjh 2019-10-08T13:53:24Z

Really like the subtle use of audio between the days. I don't think the game should let you go to sleep when you still have more than $10 worth of stocks though. It was kind of annoying to lose the game just because I didn't have $10 in the bank when I pressed the sleep button (even though I had much more money worth of stocks I could have sold). The log on the left side is a great touch.

I'm not sure why your "score" at the end is your greatest amount of money owned, rather than your total net worth. A player could always sell then re-buy all their stocks every turn if they wanted their true "greatest money owned" to be the highest.

Overall it was enjoyable, gives me that "gotta keep the number going up" feeling like playing a clicker, but more interesting.

Words From Nothing by NekuSoul 2019-10-08T21:18:39Z

So good! I tried to come up with a word game myself starting with the letters "NOTHING" on the board, but didn't even consider randomly generating the words as you draw lines, genius!

The game was incredibly hard until I discovered the reroll rule, which made it stil hard but at least bearable.

At first I thought the game would only give me "everything" if there were no other viable words that fit, but that turned out to not be the case.

I came up with a way to solve it using reroll that was still tricky, but at least got it done pretty quick after that.

Proof: https://i.imgur.com/noIBFO5.png Here was my way to approach the solution (spoilers): I would spell a long word, and then with any E/V/R I would reroll 3 letter words around them until I got EVE or EVER, then turn that into EVERY and extend that to a 10 letter word and hope to get "EVERYTHING". I got "EVERYPLACE" and "EVERYWHERE" a bunch of times first. The same thing would be possible working backwards from "THING" but it's harder (you also end up with words like UNCLOTHING).

Oh and here's what my board looked like right before I beat it (again, spoilers): https://i.imgur.com/PeizHMv.png

One bit of feedback is that it would be nice if the reroll went through all the possible letters in order instead of truly random like it is now. Sometimes you have to click a lot to get to a letter you know is valid.

Anyway, that's about it. Just wanted to say I thought this game was great and it's a really unique experience.

The Song of Calirum by Blizary 2019-10-11T13:22:40Z

This is VERY good. The only thing that would make it better is if the game told you what each color dot on the card was when you rolled over them (same with the cards in your hand). Ideally each color dot should also have its own symbol to make them feel more unique and so that colorblind folks can tell them apart too.

nothing but everything by slovnoslomo 2019-10-08T13:33:02Z

@namnam "i felt sometime force to give th wrong answer (for the biggest rock)"

Not sure how you can say it's the "wrong answer", the whole point is that the biggest rock wouldn't be able to fit on a piece of paper.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this game. It has a different feeling than most jam games, and makes some simple yet profound observations. Great work!

The Island by Sanguis 2019-10-11T13:39:16Z

Very cool, but having to right-click to deselect your current item before clicking a new item is super unintuitive. For a while, I couldn't figure out why the items were still locked even though I was clicking on them with enough money to unlock them.

Also the "island size limit" is a key part of the game that isn't visible anywhere on screen, it really should be a progress bar somewhere.

Barterin' Buckaroo by chelC 2019-10-11T14:33:07Z

This is really good. I love how the trading system wasn't super strict, so there were lots of possibilites and (as far as I could tell) no way to get stuck, since you could almost always reverse a trade. On top of that there were little twists to the mechanics (like finding the dagger in the dead hand). The art and audio were fantastic too. Great work!

Cubies by Stromberg 2019-10-08T21:26:25Z

fun little 2D physics sandbox, not much game here though! :)

HEARTSCAPE by ZakAmana 2019-10-11T14:07:00Z

This is *great*. Really well done. I have no idea how you managed to make the game this polished in 48 hours (there's even a tutorial?!) .

Oracle Pine by Swanijam 2019-10-11T14:19:58Z

The gameplay was a bit finicky, and the dialogue was a weird mix of serious and silly, but man the visuals and the audio are SO GOOD.

Oriopia by TheMuffinMan314 2019-10-09T13:09:33Z

Pretty cool, but it's a pain that there isn't any kind of health indicator (or do you just die after being hit once?). I would get far but then get stuck on geometry for a split second and suddenly get killed by an enemy with a sword.

Insert Title Text Here by Bip 2019-10-08T21:39:48Z

Love the narration, gives it that Stanley Parable or Getting Over It vibe.

Scrawl A Draw by rdcooper 2019-10-09T01:32:18Z

Silly but fun

Fit the Sticky by Leonard Graf 2019-10-11T13:53:06Z

Despite the lag, this is a lot of fun to play. Took me a few tries to beat it, then once I did I decided to spend a few more tries going as small as I could... This was about as far as I got. tinyba.png

Words against Numbers by Mastoast 2019-10-08T13:25:36Z

Nice game. I tried to come up with a word game where you start with "nothing" too, but didn't even consider something like this! One little thing that would improve it is if the decimals *always* moved the numbers to a different row. Sometimes they got moved to the same row so it wasn't clear that decimals were the things that made stuff move rows.

LD52 — Harvest

Carrots by maartene 2023-01-27T19:43:55Z

Hah I enjoyed this. Got the 74 carrots bug too, but then figured out if I got the carrots and then the chest, I could still top out at 100 carrots.

The Teeniest Seed by Jezzamon 2023-01-22T05:52:57Z

This is really good. I love the music too, so chill and catchy. I once caused a bug by pressing restart too quickly or something and it spawned two player characters at once, which was pretty fun!

Boba by danman9914 2023-01-13T01:54:56Z

Very very good. It's absurd that you finished this in 48 hours. I laughed a lot at the ending.

Grow Golf by torcado 2023-01-11T21:18:26Z

Really clever game idea! Love it.

Crop Chaos by Cambryx 2023-01-12T20:39:26Z

This is really good! It is definitely not the typical chill farming game, but it's called Crop Chaos so I can't fault it for that! :D

LEXICONSTRUCTOR by Matt Rix 2023-01-11T23:10:41Z

@joror Great job! And yeah good idea, it would have been cool to have a word that used a previous word somehow.

LEXICONSTRUCTOR by Matt Rix 2023-01-15T02:31:08Z

@unentokku agreed! I considered doing belts but I had a feeling I would end up spending too much time debugging them (I ended up having to fix a whole bunch of weird bugs with the movers anyway heh).

LEXICONSTRUCTOR by Matt Rix 2023-01-23T01:54:52Z

@maartene nice work! And yeah I wish I had been able to get around to making music and sound effects, it definitely would have helped set the right vibe.

celestial garden by pataya 2023-01-22T06:19:32Z

This is really fun and figuring out you could use the suns as protection from meteors was satisfying :)

Barn Busters by UnitedFailures 2023-01-14T02:22:13Z

Really liked the idea of a physical tower defense game / obstacle course, fun concept!

Mustered by arron-fowler 2023-01-17T19:24:54Z

Super cool. There are definitely some quirks regarding UI and balancing, but it feels really neat to go from nothing to having this whole world come alive.

Ethereal Fruits by Manan 2023-01-22T05:36:44Z

Why is this so good? It's so weird and chill and I love it.

Space Harvest by MachWerx 2023-01-15T02:44:43Z

It's a neat idea for an incremental game to integrate graphs on screen as an immediate visual reference.

Harvey Harvest by DrSomma 2023-01-26T00:58:17Z

This was surprisingly compelling once I got the hang of it, though I started to encounter a bug around day 7 where I couldn't plant in some of my fields anymore. It would just make the beep sound as if my storage was full (even though it wasn't). I could still plant in the other fields fine.

Farm Flow by Szivacs 2023-01-10T21:30:38Z

Very clever game idea and well executed too!

If you want a bit of constructive feedback, I think there are too many options given to the player, it becomes a bit overwhelming, especially for 36 turns. Perhaps you could allow players fewer choices but give the ability to rotate the pieces instead?

The other thing is that the water doesn't really feel useful enough, especially when carrots die if you don't get back to them fast enough. Perhaps the water could make a field produce 2 carrots instead?

Minetanite by picttarge 2023-01-12T00:26:19Z

Cool game, it really felt like playing a mini RTS.

Farmer Joe by ElmoEinstein 2023-01-13T23:10:25Z

Quite compelling! I played the 5-minute game twice and managed to end with 810 coins on my second playthrough.

The Harvester by flanne 2023-01-22T04:54:10Z

This is great and has a lot of mood for how minimal it is. The one control that's really important that isn't listed is right click, for cancelling an action and deciding to just move instead. Also between rounds when it says "press any key" I had to switch to another app and back every time. But yeah those are minor issues and expected in a jam game.

Plot Luck by Ani 2023-01-15T05:25:23Z

This is great, really nice and polished. I'm actually working on a roguelike "slotsbuilder" as my main game right now (https://milkbaggames.itch.io/slots-and-sorcery) so this was right up my alley!

URSA MAIOR by ekaktusz 2023-01-11T20:30:20Z

This is great! The whole thing is so charming. Lovely writing and art, and the choice of Pico-8 for the tech fits perfectly.

Gene Graph Garden by kaliuresis 2023-01-22T05:25:58Z

I think this is a clever programming system, the way you can kind of create loops out of anything, very cool.

Isle of Harvest by StevenColling 2023-01-12T20:55:36Z

This is quite the game to have completed in a weekend! The art is great and the game is surprisingly compelling. On my first playthrough I fell off the map and before I realized I could have climbed up I fell so far I couldn't even see the land anymore haha. On my second playthrough I encountered a bug (I think?) where my second quest was to get 100 wood for a 110 coin reward, which made it so I couldn't really progress for 5 minutes. Just some minor stuff really, but otherwise the game is super solid.
