Love everything about it! My favorite so far :)

The puzzles are intriguing yet simple enough to finish every level in just a few tries. Story is short and cute.

Everything seemed to work as expected. The only thing I would add is support for WASD/spacebar as well as the arrows. Also maybe a mention somewhere that R resets the level because I found it through an educated guess.

The music track is seriously awesome!!

jezzamon 2023-01-10 02:09

@ofiro Thank you!

I actually intended to add WASD support in the game but never tested it, turns out I used the wrong name for the buttons haha. I'll have to publish a bug-fix version with that added. I was considering adding space as a button for planting the seed, but removed it so someone wouldn't accidentally plant if they mashed it on the select screen.... but using it for jump is a good idea! I'll add that :)

Glad you liked the music :) And yep, I was going to add those controls in the description, once I actually got around to writing a description!

Such a fun game! Some feedback I have for you:

- The way the seeds plant themselves feels so satisfying! - I wish there was a way to get an overview of each level. I don't know if you intended it like this, but I feel that every puzzle game should be able to be solved flawlessly if you know what I mean - I love the character select options! - I see in the comments that there is a reset option, I was about to suggest to add one ^^" Maybe instead giving the player a notice in-game would help. As you need to reset a lot. Ofcourse there is a retry option among the character select screen. I used that a lot ^^ - I like the controls and how effortlessly the gameplay is as a result of that. I can learn from that. - The music and graphics fit together very nicely. Well done!

So cute! :> I love how happy the seeds look when they plant themselves. And how they look down when falling! Exploring the different seed types and the levels kept me interested until the end. Nice easter egg in the final level! :D

This is a great gameplay concept, I'd love to play a bigger game based on this. @Piko suggested a co-op mode! :)

I didn't really like having to guess which seed you would need first. And the camera controls felt too tight for my taste, and followed the character rather quickly, which got uncomfortable to look at on a big screen.

Great game. I had a lot of fun playing it! It's so cute and positive :) Thanks for that!

maximbegunov 2023-01-11 21:27

Great idea to use plants as a means to change the environment for the next seeds. Controls feel good although sometimes I would plant myself in the tile that I didn't plan for, had to reset. Had a lot of fun playing through it!

This game was lots of fun!! I was quite puzzled during the levels and I had a lot of satisfaction figuring it out! The art is really really nice, the animation is satisfying, the explosion effect was very cool! Great work as always!!

adamwigs 2023-01-12 07:04

It was very cute and a lot of fun! Unfortunately, the music wouldn't load (I'm on safari though, which has caused issues with other games). Really enjoyed the art! One minor thing was the text before the "next" screen skipped by to fast for me to read.

It'd be cool if the seeds looked a bit different in seed form! Another thought, it could be interesting to have levels in other seasons, where the plants and environment (and challenges) are a bit different!

This is a cute and relaxing (not so) little puzzle game, I enjoyed taking my time to finish it, and surprisingly, most of the time was for the "you win" level (and not for the previous one). Good job!

torcado 2023-01-16 22:34

this is really nice! cute story, nice art and music. it's interesting, for me the mechanic of plants dying never came up until the "you win" level, i think it would be neat if that mechanic was expanded upon further, maybe even with water to revive dead plants. there's a couple minor bugs and rough edges, and some level design choices i would change, but otherwise this was a nice short puzzle game :)

vigneshwar 2023-01-17 11:08

Nice game nice graphics...but still cant figure out how to complete the final level..

caranha 2023-01-20 12:13

Hey, that was a pretty cute game, thank you so much! I loved the sprite work. I liked having to think about the different ways to solve the puzzle. I was half expecting a silly joke at the "You win" level :-P

One little thing about the movement, I felt that the camera was turning around a bit too much when I moved the characters, and it made me a bit dizzy

flauschzelle 2023-01-20 18:08

Very cute! I'm really bad at jump and run games, but with a bit of practice, I managed to solve it. And I love the puzzle aspect! :)

The fast camera movement is a bit dizzying, especially in the smaller levels, I would have liked a bit more space to turn around before the camera starts to move. And the texts showing a bit earlier would have been nice too.

It would also have been nice if I could go back to the seed selecting screen if I picked the wrong one, without completely restarting the level. But as the levels were short enough, that didn't bother me too much at least.

I wonder why there is more than one of the flower seeds in the last level, if you can only plant one anyway and then it automatically returns you to the first level again...?

ale 2023-01-20 22:29

I loved this! The animations, music, graphics were all excellent. The gameplay was interesting, and I think you could come up with some really interesting level design using this concept.

I was sad when I finished the final level and it just restarted...I was hoping for more content lol

The only (minor) issues I had were that the glowing effect of the ground was sometimes hard to see in front of the bright backgrounds, and aligning the seed felt a little off. Sometimes I'd press down to plant on the cell I thought was below me, but the seed would move slightly forward and plant itself in the cell right in front of me. That was mainly a problem in the longer levels since losing a seed means having to restart the whole thing.

But overall this is a really great submission. Nice job!!

jezzamon 2023-01-21 05:49

@caranha @flauschzelle Ooh, thanks for the feedback on the camera seeming dizzy! Didn't think of that. I will tweak that in my post-compo version :)

jezzamon 2023-01-21 06:02

@flauschzelle The last level was thrown together pretty quickly, in fact I wasn't even planning on making it beatable at the start, just a "you win" in pixel art letters. Hence why you got a lot of seeds to play with :) That's also why the result when you win is a little anti-climactic.

Note to self: Try to make the ending of the game satisfying for people!

jezzamon 2023-01-21 06:30

@ale Yeah, I ran into the seed planting in the wrong place a few times while testing. Definitely needs tweaking.

Glad you liked it! I content was the thing I skimped on during this game and would've definitely like to add more!

weirdybeardyman 2023-01-21 22:43

So good! The art is lovely, and this is a super clever puzzle platformer, great idea with the seed mechanics. Those mechanics seem like you have the potential to make tonnes of complex and interesting levels. The only thing I would say with the levels in the game is that it would be nice to have an overview at the start or an indicator of where the final goal is when off screen so you can work out how to solve it instead of having to try and find it first, then work out how to solve it. Really like this game though, one of my favourites from the jam so far!

beeb-gamecodecompany 2023-01-22 03:25

Reeeeally glad I came across this game, I actually said "Wow" out loud when I realized what I was playing. I like the use of theme, music was good, and I really liked how the main character was larger and visibly such a focus compared to other games. I feel like this should be a good old flash game or even an Nintendo eShop game. I can actually see replacing these turnips with Nintendo characters and it working well haha. Really cool and I will probably be following to see if you continue work on this.

matt-rix 2023-01-22 05:52

This is really good. I love the music too, so chill and catchy. I once caused a bug by pressing restart too quickly or something and it spawned two player characters at once, which was pretty fun!

ginathepotato 2023-01-22 05:56

I really really enjoyed this game! It's one of my favorites so far, I think! The vibe is so chill, the puzzles are engaging, and I appreciate that in the later levels I had to restart a few times to finish the puzzle correctly! The art is cute, the characters are cool, and I appreciate that there's story at the top of each level as you go! The mechanics are so interesting, and I think this was one of the most innovative uses of the theme that I've seen so far! Overall, it was an amazing game, and I totally lost track of time playing it. I will definitely be playing this more when I'm in the mood for a chill puzzle platformer. Finally, I super appreciate that you included a mute option for both music and sounds!

Your games are some of the only games where I'm like "I wish this had more levels". every ld I play some trash game with 800 levels and then I play your games which are sick but have like 6. This is a very jezzamon game though, reminds me a lot of dogs++ and ga game me. The last level (the credit I mean) was fun, I liked the realisation of "oh shit my vine decayed and now I'm stuck with the wrong type (though I guess that's why you gave two of the end flower ones, I just respawned)

my only criticisms design wise are:

- 1: I would like to be able to view the level first zoomed out before I choose my first plant

- 2: the camera snapping so far to your forward direction when you're just trying to stand still or realign is a bit too much. I think the camera distance is fine but it should get there gradually when you're walking and not snap there instantly

- 3: camera in general also doesn't catch up with your velocity either when you fall down a big hall and accelerate faster than it. I think the camera should just be based on your pos and then have an additional factor of your velocity that it then lerps to that gets added on to fix all of the above

- 4: the level that is essentially hole roulette. I get the gameplay is information gathering at that point but I find it a little bit antithetical to the rest of the gameplay to be like that, but different strokes for different folks

but those are minor gripes, in general I found it thoroughly enjoyable and look forward to more jezzamon entries
