LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

RE-SANTA by Thygrrr 2017-12-06T17:39:01Z

Sounds like a cool idea, I'd like to try it... the graphics look really cute.

I use Linux, so I tried the web version - but I can't play it there because parts of the game are cut off on my (rather small) screen size, and even though it has scrollbars, scrolling only shows half of the cut off parts :/

RE-SANTA by Thygrrr 2017-12-06T18:10:07Z

@thygrrr - that was the first thing I tried when I saw that it was cut off. Didn't work :/

Piggle Puzzle by fractalsunrise 2017-12-06T19:16:18Z

I'm still stuck on level 9, but the fact that I've already been trying it very many times tells me that this is a really fun game :)

I like puzzle games that give me time to think, so the fact that I can decide when to do the next step is great!

And those pigs are just sooo cute <3

Vroom Vroom Kaboom by profan 2017-12-17T19:59:04Z

I like the idea, it's a really nice puzzle game.

I didn't play a lot of levels yet, because a bug in the web version forces me to reload the page after every time I tried to move the map around - after moving the map, I can't click anywhere else (it doesn't react to clicks anywhere outside the map), so I can't input any instructions and have to reload the page.

Does anyone else have this problem, too?

Bunnyfication by dekart 2017-12-17T23:13:25Z

Very cute, soo many fluffy bunnies <3 At first I found it difficult to understand what I was supposed to do. The fat bunnies were hard to recognize in the quest graphic at the beginning. But I played it several times and it quickly became kind of addictive, as I figured out more about how the behaviour of the bunnies works.

Kittie Reaper: A Depressed Cat Tale by jfraser314 2017-12-17T20:35:03Z

Cute, but also very sad :( why do all the animals want to die? They are running at me so fast that I don't have a real chance of escaping them... I think it would probably be less frustrating if I could move a bit faster.

The graphics are very cute =(^_^)= The music is also cute but a bit repetitive, it gets kind of annoying rather quickly :/

Catdventure by Andreas Ragen Ayal 2017-12-17T23:45:55Z

Aaaw, what a cute game =(^_^)= It feels a bit like juggling lots of very light, fluffy, bouncing balls - the bouncy physics feel very exaggerated but that makes it even more hilarious. And I love the meow sounds :) It's also fun to just watch the little kittens jump around and roll over each other.

Epitaph by velvetlobster 2017-12-17T22:20:53Z

Unfortunately, the web version didn't do anything and the linux version caused my computer to crash... the description sounds nice but I couldn't play it :/

LD42 — Running out of space

Writespace by blinry 2018-09-06T18:25:18Z

@nervous-composers: you can skip directly to any level via the menu, so you don't have to play through from the first level every time. We will probably make that more obvious in the next version, it seems that a lot of people didn't notice the menu at all.

The <3 on the final screen is just highlighted because we thought it looked nice to highlight the little heart, and we didn't realize that it looks so confusingly similar to the > level exit points. So there are no easter eggs yet, but maybe we'll include some in a future version ^^

3x3 a tale about friendship by oskarOlausson 2018-08-16T00:06:21Z

I like the idea, and the graphics are very cute! The mechanics with the interaction of the different pieces are more complex than it seemed at first glance, I think there are a lot of strategies to discover :) It is really fun to play, although I was a bit clueless at first about which pieces to choose. I will probably try some more rounds of it tomorrow, I like that kind of puzzle game and the little ghosts are soo cute <3

Polygon Bash by josehzz 2018-08-15T21:08:40Z

Cool idea, I think it fits the theme really well :) I found it hard not to crash into the polygons or the spikes on the wall, so I gave up rather quickly. But I like the pretty graphics with those glow effects and animations :)

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Arden's Artisan Artefacts by blinry 2018-12-05T17:56:02Z

@mateusboga it's probably a problem with your graphics driver or maybe even graphics hardware :/ not being compatible with LÖVE 11 on Windows. We tested it on some other Windows machines and it worked there. I just found that other LÖVE 11 programs seem to have the same problem on some specific Windows/graphics combinations (see here: https://love2d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=85649).

I hope we will find a way to fix it. Until then, could you try to update your graphics driver or try to play it on any other computer?

(Or even try to play it on the same computer but on Linux... I think my laptop also has Intel Core i5, but the game works correctly on it - I'm using Ubuntu Linux.)

Arden's Artisan Artefacts by blinry 2018-12-05T19:41:30Z

By the way: the Linux/Mac version will probably also work on Android with the LÖVE app, but we haven't tested that yet.

Arden's Artisan Artefacts by blinry 2018-12-05T20:01:13Z

@garymarance can you describe the problems you have when trying to play it on mac?

Also, what LÖVE version do you have, and what macOS version?

Arden's Artisan Artefacts by blinry 2018-12-05T22:35:45Z

Thanks for your feedback and for the pictures, it's great to see what works of art you all have made so far!

@salierus @garymarance @themadprogramer I'm currently working on a blogpost about this game and would like to include some of your pictures there. Would that be ok for you?

Blob by concalf 2018-12-06T00:52:13Z

I like the cute graphics <3 and the sound effects also fit nicely. It was challenging to steer all the little blobs into the right direction, especially when there were single ones left floating around far from the others - I then just had to wait and either watch how they got eaten by the hunters or fell into a star by sheer luck, or sacrifice them to speed it up. But I managed to win the second time I played it, even though I was not sure how the success was calculated.

dropboy by torcado 2018-12-05T00:09:26Z

I love the idea and it's a lot of fun to play, although I didn't play all the levels because my computer kept crashing while I played (web version, but not sure if it had to do with the game) and I had to start over twice... Sounds effects would be a great idea, but even without them, I would like to play more of this :)

dropboy by torcado 2018-12-05T00:30:36Z

Thanks for the quick answer :) I also use Firefox (on Linux) though, so it can't be a Chrome issue.

Reverse Quest by kleinzach 2018-12-04T23:19:45Z

Cool Idea! Could you make it available for Linux, too?

Miko Quest by Sun-Wukong 2018-12-04T22:37:06Z

I love the cute graphics, the music and the animations so much <3

I would have liked to play longer, but it suddenly ended and said "thank you for playing" while I was just walking around between the trees, so I think I found a secret exit in the last level :D

I'm going to play it again and actually try to solve the puzzle next time.

Timbo by Kusaihana 2018-12-06T00:28:35Z

I like the idea, a creative interpretation of the theme! And it's fun to play, though it's quite difficult for me to avoid the wrong letters while moving so fast, so it took me quite a long time to build the whole word.

The graphics and sound are simple, but cute <3

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Break The Loop by paulhocker 2020-10-06T15:02:15Z

Very nice and polished looking game, I love the pretty glowing graphics and I haven't seen this kind of game mechanics before!

It was quite hard for me to play, as quick reactions are not my strongest skill... I gave up on level 5 after about 20 attempts or so, but I enjoyed the visual look and I think it's a cool idea!

PoopLoop by himeija 2020-10-06T18:51:36Z

Aww, bunnies! <3

Very cute graphics, and fun to play, although it took me a while to figure out that I should click on the poop to pick it up - maybe include some instructions for the controls?

Sadly, it gets quite resource-hungry after a while - I had to stop at about 100 bunnies because it filled up my computer's RAM and slowed down the browser until it got completely stuck.

ludum factorum by AMastryukov 2020-10-06T15:23:09Z

Very funny idea, but I found it way too hard... I couldn't even finish one game, so I had to miss out on all the jokes mentioned in the other comments :/

It's probably easier for people who can type while looking at the screen, I should learn that some day...

Radiant Rewind by larkinia 2020-10-06T17:27:58Z

@caeonosphere Thanks!

We already noticed the glitches that sometimes happen in the paddle/ball collision before publishing, but fixing them would have exceeded the time limit for the jam, as it seems to be a rather complicated problem...

It would somehow feel like cheating to put a lot of work into fixing that now, long after the submission deadline. As much as I, personally, would really like to fix it... the other bugfixes we made were mostly just one short line of code, but this one would probably be much more, so it doesn't seem fair... (if anyone has thoughts about this, please let us know!)

Radiant Rewind by larkinia 2020-10-06T22:40:50Z

@valentin-roche Thanks! What do you mean by "nervous"?

@thygrrr Thanks, we're very proud of the graphics in this one!

Hmm... *thinking* ... is it too late to at least add keyboard control for the raccoon's movement (the rest is keyboard anyway) now? For gamepad support, we'd have to look into LÖVE's support of gamepads... might be possible too, but that would probably be a large update, and not really count as a bug fix, so... not sure if that's ok within the jam rules...?

The Jolly Journey of J.J.'s Jelly-Jamventure by TJ101010 2020-10-06T19:33:37Z

This is really fun and cute, it kept me playing for longer than I thought at first, but I gave up on Level 15 (I think), so I don't know how many more there are... the difficulty seems a bit all over the place, the higher levels sometimes were easier than the lower ones.

I like the very simple mouse control, although the jumps sometimes felt a bit unpredictable in height and angle.

The story window is also a nice gimmick :D

Screw these loops! by TomaszJaworski 2020-10-06T14:39:13Z

A very funny take on the theme, quite unexpected! A horror story that almost everyone here can relate to, I think ;)

And I like the pixel art style :)

But I wonder if there was actually any kind of control or if the story is just always the same, no matter what I do as a player? I just kind of randomly clicked on all the things and I'm not sure if it would have made any difference if I did anything differently... is the result always the same or are there different paths/endings?

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deep Roots by myrmyxo 2021-04-28T18:31:53Z

Cool idea and an interesting take on the theme, I love this kind of puzzle game!

I haven't solved level 6 yet so I haven't even seen all of the levels, but because you said we should report bugs:

I find it annoying that the level starts scrolling slowly (and jumpily) up- or downwards any time I move the roots. I really wish it would not do that automatically and just let me scroll manually to wherever I want to look at and then stay there until I scroll manually again.

I'm not sure if this is intentional or a bug but I would have more fun if it was fixed.

Deep Roots by myrmyxo 2021-04-28T22:14:55Z

@oddarock It was still so much fun to play this that I kept playing despite the scrolling. I finally finished all the levels now and it's a really great challenging puzzle game!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Shepherd's Island by blinry 2022-04-06T16:14:16Z

@binarydiv Thank you! If the crash happens again, could you share the error message? Maybe it's a bug that we can fix :)

Shepherd's Island by blinry 2022-04-11T15:50:28Z

Thanks for playing, @mateusboga!

You were impressively quick in most of the levels, and it hurt a bit to see you so confused by "Seafarers" that you gave up on it :(

This happened with several other people, too... so we figured that introducing the "press enter to wait" function there is too misleading, because the waiting had never really been the main point of this level /o\

Because it frustrated so many people, we changed the map of "Seafarers" a little bit, and now only explain waiting in a later level where it is actually needed.

Trashy Towers by TinyWhaleCloud 2022-04-09T13:34:53Z

Great interpretation of the theme, sounds like a very realistic scenario :D

It was fun to play, and the music fits it well.

The only thing I would have changed is the choice of keys for the chaos multiplayer mode - using arrow keys+PgUp/PgDown instead of UIOJKL would make for less colliding hands on a small keyboard.

And now I wonder who has so many basketballs and wants to throw them away...

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Alarm Clock Arcade by blinry 2022-10-06T22:07:58Z

@caeonosphere Thanks :) I'm not sure if I understand what you're trying to say, though - were you dying "out of nowhere" because you were in a segment that switched off, or because you got hit by an enemy?

Alarm Clock Arcade by blinry 2022-10-19T20:01:11Z

Aww, thank you :) The intro was 3d rendered with blender, and then included in the Löve game as a video.

10 Second Wordle by Jezzamon 2022-10-04T18:57:32Z

I like wordle games a lot, so I was excited to try this one. But turns out: it's sooo hard to even think of one fitting word in such a short time - and before I could enter a second one, the time was always already over.

I feel like this game suffers from the same problem as many others I've tried so far in this jam - 10 seconds feels much too short to fit a whole level of a game into it, so I can't enjoy the challenge because I'm always stressed out by the super short time limit.

Weirdo Words by SimplePotential 2022-10-04T19:47:33Z

I had a lot of fun playing this one! At first I was much too slow, but when I figured out that I can also just click on the letters instead of dragging them, it worked quite well (my bad for not reading the whole description before... oops). Apart from loving word games in general, I especially liked that this one is controlled by clicking, so I don't have to move my eyes (or even scroll) back and forth between the game at the top and a keyboard that's often way too far down in other word games.

I'd like to play more of it, but I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow...

The Epicathelon by CataclysmicKnight 2022-10-15T13:55:16Z

I don't often see boardgames on LD, so I had to try this :) I played it together with @lenaschimmel and it was more fun than expected - it's impressive to make a board game in such a short time!

We hadn't gotten very far when the time track ran out for the first time, but we decided to continue playing and see how many time tracks it will take us to win. We managed to finish very closely before it would have run out for the second time :)

epicathelon.jpg

We found out rather quickly that it's useful to think about which numbers we would like to have in the next turn before starting the timer and rolling - 10 seconds are quite short to reroll until you get what you want, but it was possible more often that not :)

We came upon a few questions where the rules were unclear for us and we had to decide arbitrarily, but maybe you can tell us how you intended it to be:

1. For the meeple starting on track 1/2, how does each player decide if they start on 1 or 2?

2. The rules say to start the morale track at the green space in the upper right corner - but there is no such space. We decided to use the upper left corner instead, and then wondered: does that mean we should immediately move the time track forward at the beginning of the game?

3. Also, is "at the end of the turn" (for the green spaces on the morale track) counted for each player separately, or only once after all players have moved their meeples?

4. Do the treacherous terrain spaces on the 1&2 track (where you need 1+2 to move into them) count as one space, or are they divided so that the number you need to move out of them depends on which side you are standing on?

5. If a meeple wasn't moved in a turn and would fall back: if it's closely after the starting space so that there is no pink space left of it, does it fall back to the green space instead? or not at all?

6. If a meeple falls back, does it follow the black arrows in reverse direction?

7. If there is an impassable space (red X) between a meeple that would fall back and the next pink space to the left: does the meeple automatically move around it sideways (on track 1/2)? (Example: if you fall back from the 7th space on track 2, do you land on the 5th space of track 1?)

8. Why is there an impassable pink space (space 10 on track 1)? If you would fall back to that, do you automatically move to track 2, space 10?

The Epicathelon by CataclysmicKnight 2022-10-20T18:28:51Z

@cataclysmicknight thanks for your answers, they cleared up a lot of points where we now know we didn't play as intended. So we'll have to play it again and see how it works out :)

A themed version of the game sheet with some art showing the landscapes would be lovely (and probably also clear up some confusion like you said). When you've made one, please tell me :)

After reading your answer to 3. several times, it dawned on me how I had originally misinterpreted the rule description - when we played it, I thought that we should move the time track *one* space whenever the morale meeple is moved __through__ a green space (but doesn't stop there), and *two* spaces (one immediately and one after moving your other meeples) when it __stops on__ a green space.

But now I think you're supposed to move the time track *one* space if the morale meeple __stops on__ the green space, and *also one* space if it was already there at the beginning of your turn and you __didn't move__ the morale meeple at all in your turn - but you *don't have to move* the time track when the morale meeple is __moved through__ a green space but doesn't stop there. Did I get that right now?

One idea about rules that may be confusing: many of my favorite boardgames' rulebooks have examples (with pictures and description) next to the abstract wording of the rules. If you plan to make a post-jam version of this game with more art etc., maybe you could also include examples in your rulebook?

LD52 — Harvest

Not Mushroom for Error by TerraCottaFrog 2023-01-27T16:37:30Z

Very cool, I like how it gets more and more challenging, until the edible and the poisonous mushrooms look almost the same...

The keys didn't work as described for me though, I could only use X and Z, which are kind of awkwardly placed on my (QWERTZ) keyboard, and the A and B keys didn't do anything. Would have liked to have configurable controls.

The Teeniest Seed by Jezzamon 2023-01-20T18:08:35Z

Very cute! I'm really bad at jump and run games, but with a bit of practice, I managed to solve it. And I love the puzzle aspect! :)

The fast camera movement is a bit dizzying, especially in the smaller levels, I would have liked a bit more space to turn around before the camera starts to move. And the texts showing a bit earlier would have been nice too.

It would also have been nice if I could go back to the seed selecting screen if I picked the wrong one, without completely restarting the level. But as the levels were short enough, that didn't bother me too much at least.

I wonder why there is more than one of the flower seeds in the last level, if you can only plant one anyway and then it automatically returns you to the first level again...?

Mermaid Treasure Quest by gamerjenn 2023-01-27T01:24:57Z

Cute game, I love mermaids :) The graphics are very nice, although I was confused by those colored squares that should probably also have been images?

Even for a jam game, it is very short and simple, so it doesn't feel like much of a challenge. If you're planning to make a longer version: some kind of obstacles, traps, or enemies to avoid would probably make nice variations. Maybe one of the fish could have a hint on how to get around them?

Bildschirmfoto 2023-01-27 um 02.13.04.png

Chop Crop & Drop by Simon Rahnasto 2023-01-11T01:22:36Z

Yay, another LÖVE game, and a really lovely one <3

I looove the juicy effects and the wobbly ground! Also, the sounds and graphics are very cute!

This is really fun and I can't think of many things that could be improved...

I wasn't quite sure if I'm supposed to be farming many enemies at once or just fight one each night (but it's fun either way).

The equipment cards look cute, but feel rather redundant to me, because they have very similar effects as the dice. And maybe the tutorial could be skippable if you play it more than once...?

An annoying part for me was having to open and close the dice tray every round - I would have liked it better if I could at least re-use the dice from the round before without opening the tray again. Or just have the dice in a place where they are accessible all the time and don't cover the playing field.

Dreamcatcher by 6smith 2023-01-26T22:40:03Z

Cool idea to harvest dreams instead of the typical farming stuff! I like the twinkling stars and the sound effect when you encircle a dream, and the different sprites of the nightmares. The windows lighting up and the 💤 of the sleeping people are also very cute :)

Whenever I tried to move around and explore the city, I mostly just died quickly by falling down somewhere... the jump & run controls felt too hard for me, especially with having to keep one hand one the mouse to catch the dreams, and I'm not good at platformer games anyway.

I prefer the drawing-style mouse controls, and got my best score when I was just standing still and waiting for dreams to spawn close to me.

Grow In The Dark by Flauschzelle 2023-01-11T19:58:58Z

Thanks for your feedback, @starofleaf! I don't know what skating game you were referring to? I thought about showing the allowed number of steps somewhere, but thought that it would not be important... because the goal is just to find the shortest possible way. But we probably didn't explain that good enough. Unfortunately, we had a lot less time than usual and had to finish some things very hastily this time :/

Grow In The Dark by Flauschzelle 2023-01-27T20:44:35Z

@darpasquid thanks for the feedback! I agree that there would be more interesting levels possible, and I even already had some similar ideas - we simply ran out of time to implement them before the submission deadline :/

Shaded Flowers by Maksim Chugunov 2023-01-27T19:43:06Z

Looks nice with the colors and the particles :) but as you said, does not really feel like a game yet - I'm curious what you would make of this with more time. Are you planning to make a post-jam version?

Orchard Alchemy by caeonosphere 2023-01-20T20:59:49Z

Bildschirmfoto 2023-01-20 um 21.41.41.jpg

I did it \o/

I kept wondering if there's something to do with the statue, though...? because you can just keep playing after it appears.

Very cool game, kind of addictive :D At first, I was stuck when I didn't notice that I could zoom out and find the other trees, and kept wondering how I could ever get any fruit lower than 4.

Accelerating time was useful towards the end, but I really missed a 'stop/pause time' button so all the movement on the screen would stop distracting me from planning what to build. It was very messy and I ended up just moving fruit around manually a lot because I couldn't concentrate enough to build all the automation :/

Oh, and the game really needs some kind of 'quit' button or key - I ended up having to kill it from my task manager, because there's not even a window title bar to click 'close' on or something... luckily, I have a second screen where I could do that, I can image that being even more of a problem on a single screen. Maybe an option to not have it in fullscreen mode would work, too.

(I played the mac version, no idea if that's a problem with the others, too..)

Escape the Harvest by greenkingwashere 2023-01-27T19:54:02Z

I tried a few times but I always got caught - not sure if there is actually an exit somewhere... very stressful!

I like the pixel art graphics (the pig is so cute!) and the sound effects. A bit of music would have been great.

FloraShift by togo sepultraut 2023-01-26T21:24:33Z

Nice to see another LÖVE game, and a puzzle! The pixel art graphics are cute, and I like how you used the classic tile shifting mechanic and combined it with the rules about neighboring plants.

I usually prefer puzzles with pre-defined levels and a clear win condition, but on the other hand, this feels kind of meditative and there's not that specific point where it's no longer playable because you know all the solutions...

My high score so far is 97, maybe I can still beat it...

(edit: now I got up 149, yay!) Bildschirmfoto 2023-01-27 um 01.59.32.png

Bop To The Chop by RTDMFN 2023-01-11T02:21:40Z

A beautiful little game, very short but it feels well-rounded :)

I love the minimalistic color palette with the hazy background <3 And it feels almost meditative to play, great mood!

I would have loved a bit more variety in the rhythm, maybe more levels with different rhythms?

Jack-O-Bowl by machino 2023-01-27T19:28:35Z

I didn't get the hang of the controls... at first I tried to throw the pumpkins while standing still, but they just dropped to the floor. Then I thought I probably have to move to throw them, but after I moved away from the start point where the pumpkins are stored, I couldn't find it again and just walked around getting hit by the enemies O.o

At some point, this menu popped up seemingly at random:

Harvest by Tod Semple 2023-01-27T19:08:46Z

I like the graphics, animations and the descriptions of the things!

Funny how it's more and more just 'automate things and watch your money grow while not doing much' - darkly realistic about how rich people can just get richer without doing anything...

Some sound would have been a nice addition, but otherwise, very polished!

The Polar Vet and the Non-Swimming Penguin by bezbiletnym 2023-01-27T16:15:34Z

Very cute graphics <3 I like puzzle games, and had a lot of fun playing this :) Would have loved more levels! One thing I would improve is maybe add some music.

Fishyphus of the Deep: Legend of the Eight Gems by darpasquid 2023-01-27T18:40:29Z

The underwater setting with the glowy things looks nice, and cool idea to play a fish :) Unfortunately, I found it mostly frustrating to play, because moving the gems was really slow, and after a while, I got motion sickness from the mouse-controlled camera view jumping around too much, so I stopped playing before I had brought back the second gem. Nice landscape with all the details though!

Harvest Fruit by ASR 2023-01-27T19:16:41Z

Very simple game mechanic with simple controls, with some nice graphics, although the combination of different styles seems a bit random. I found it rather hard to stop at the right spot and not miss a lot of the fruit... and some music and sound effects would have been a nice addition.
