LD52 — Harvest

Grow In The Dark by Flauschzelle 2023-01-27T20:02:39Z

I liked the art a lot, but it was a little hard to distinguish things like where the walls were, and which direction everybody faces at the start.

I see the potential for some interesting puzzles done with this ruleset (having to deal with limited basket size, puzzles where characters' paths cross in clever ways, and so on) but I don't really feel like any of the puzzles lived up to that. Even on the final level, the breakdown of which fruits needed to be picked up by which ghost was easy to figure out--the basket size limits actually worked against the puzzle's depth, because you never had to have a ghost visit the house twice, or visit with an incomplete basket, or so on.

But I do think you could make some interesting puzzles with just these mechanics, not even adding new types of tiles or anything! So I'd be interested to see what you come up with if you do decide to make an expanded post-jam version of this game.

They Come In Pieces by Cpt Slimers 2023-01-27T19:45:50Z

Really enjoyed this game! I actually liked the simple and aliased art style a lot (reminded me of mid-2000s flash games), and the feeling of having to operate delicately came across very well.

Enjoyable game! I liked the emergent dynamic of rationing out the dropped powerups, and I actually really liked the graphics and the way the camera moves around. I wish the map or spawn rates were tweaked a little bit somehow so that you could make more use of the map features, because I feel like it was mostly best to stay in the center so as to not get surrounded or cornered and that meant not interacting with e.g. the berry bushes at all. (Maybe I'm missing out on the pro-level tactics though.)

Eye See You by Almax 2023-10-19T17:36:46Z

I really enjoyed this game. It took me a little while to get used to the pace of the game, but once I did, surviving while managing the enemies, the floor, and the energy reserve felt hectic in the best possible way. The rate at which the floor crumbles works really well to constantly keep up the pressure and force you to be aware of the entire arena at all times. My best time was 1:32.79.

A couple of critical thoughts:

- I know it's probably easier said than done, but I think adding really strong directional audio cues like Devil Daggers or Hyper Demon would help the game a lot.

- I think adding a wind-up period to the gun was a great idea and makes switching to terraforming mode a much more committed and deliberate decision, but I do feel like "in exchange" it should have less bullet spread -- dealing with a large crowd of far-off enemies currently feels needlessly frustrating.

- This may just be a skill issue on my part, but the amount of terraforming energy you get from the different types of enemies feels a little too uneven. I feel like sometimes I get a bunch of small enemy spawns in a row and end up with a very low supply of energy as a result.

Finally, I really love how the game looks. Everything has just the right amount of detail to make the downres effect look amazing, and the vaguely uncanny feeling of the eyes and weapons works great.
