What an awesome game! Hit the theme right on the spot. The Sound is very immersive and I really like the mood in general. Controls feel very smooth. Shooting, jumping and building new platforms feels very polished and is very fun! Well done!

The game is looking great, and I love the music. The gameplay works very well, but the difficulty is way too high for me. Overall a well made and little jam game. Well done.

Nice game, however I didn’t last very long. The theme is well applied and the game feels smooth.

Settings menu to change mouse sensitivity would've been nice, other than that, a clever take on the theme and a cool graphics style. Overall a good entry!

Very impressive. Toggling between weapons is super smooth amd everything is consistantly goregous. Love the low screen and art res, the color pallete and retro feel. The shadow mapping adds a nice touch too, which I only noticed once I made a hex map large enough to reach the giant eyes. Super cool, great work!

I love the floor creating mechanic. It was a bit hard to understand what to do at the beginning, and I feel the eyes kept grabbing me from behind, so I was having fun and then I got a game over screen, which was annoying. I was also lacking an objective to fully exploit the dynamics that the terraforming tool can create, but it's still very nice, thanks for the game!

The game is super fun and satisfying to play. It's missing audio cues for when there are enemies behind me. The floor mechanic is fun and unique, switching quickly to the terraform to build a platform underneath myself was really cool. Right now the game gets stale a few minutes in, so adding a few different enemy types aside from the basic player-seeking eye, like maybe one enemy type could start tearing up the floor, would help a lot to make the game more varied. I like that the game starts with a different wave each time. It helps make the game less tiresome to restart (Which happens a lot). Some more things I would like to see in this game: 1. A secondary attack for your primary weapon would help when there are large swrams of enemies, like when you can tap the fire button to do a shotgun attack in Devil Daggers (which you're probably aware of), for example. 2. Maybe a limit to how much terraforming power you can obtain, or it could be depleting slowly even when unused, so the player has to use it instead of just hoarding a lot of it at the start. 3. The floor could break faster the longer you survive to add difficulty later in the game, if it doesn't already.

Overall its very fun and would make a great finished game imo

@hopem Thank you for the detailed feedback! It's always massively appreciated when someone comes back with a big well thought out reply.

I agree with pretty much all your comments, it mostly came down to running out of time to finish the jam. I ended up being quite ill over the weekend, so I didn't do the crazy number of hours I normally do for a gamejam haha. I do wish we got a bit more progression to it as it has a nice feel but does get samey really fast.

Glad you enjoyed it, it was a blast to make.

I'm not really that good at giving feedback but i just want too say how much i love the art direction!

Really enjoyed it! Hopem covered a lot of what I wanted to comment about. Audio cues feel especially important. The range you can generate flooring also feels a bit generous. Often I was able to just spin around generating flooring out and keep myself pretty safe. Would dig seeing this polished up more with an online leaderboard!

One of the best games I've played in terms of gameplay, I really liked the floor mechanics! It was a bit hard for me as I'm not really good at aiming but still!

scarytreegames 2023-10-17 11:15

I really liked this game. Graphics, music, mechanics at a high level. The theme of limited space is well implemented. Great job! In future versions of the game, I would like to see more different levels, enemies and weapons ;)

Really good game with a nice vibe and an astonishing aesthetic. The graphics in low-rez is a really good idea. Nice FX too. The squiddly around my hand is amazing - perfect animation. Of course, it reminds me of other games like **SwarmLake** or **Devil Dagger**, but it's not a problem - I like the simple concept "*they touch you - you die*". The controls work well as expected and the gameplay fits with the theme. The music is good enough giving a dramatic ambient. I made an entry a few years ago which was more or less similar - **Abaddon** for the 38th LudumDare. Well done. Just one question - WHERE IS THE LEADERBOARD ONLINE? You deserve more ratings - don't forget to rate other projects. This is the deal. Thank you for this good game which could be improved with more features. It could become a full game I hope. I wish you the best ++

What a great entry! Love the spin on the devil dagger formula - switching between shooting and building felt natural and snappy! The graphics are great and really hits the mood along with the music!

Really fun game, having to manage the enemies while repopulating the floor makes it really addicting. The sound design is also quite impressive for a game jam. I think the game may be lacking some visual feedback when getting hit, especially when it comes from behind. And some health points could make it a bit more pleasant for less hardcore players like myself

fiordarancio 2023-10-19 09:14

That's indeed a hard game for me! But I liked it a lot. The idea of terraforming areas for the limited space theme is pretty original! The gameplay is well executed for the jam, though it's very difficult to understand where the eyes are and spawn, I often got game over for something behind me with no clue.

I totally love the music and the sound fx is put nicely (more feedback for actions would be great).

Also, I used Unreal too so I'm pretty inspired by how you managed things here! Good job!

Really Impressive Game, I actually enjoyed it a lot

I really enjoyed this game. It took me a little while to get used to the pace of the game, but once I did, surviving while managing the enemies, the floor, and the energy reserve felt hectic in the best possible way. The rate at which the floor crumbles works really well to constantly keep up the pressure and force you to be aware of the entire arena at all times. My best time was 1:32.79.

A couple of critical thoughts:

- I know it's probably easier said than done, but I think adding really strong directional audio cues like Devil Daggers or Hyper Demon would help the game a lot.

- I think adding a wind-up period to the gun was a great idea and makes switching to terraforming mode a much more committed and deliberate decision, but I do feel like "in exchange" it should have less bullet spread -- dealing with a large crowd of far-off enemies currently feels needlessly frustrating.

- This may just be a skill issue on my part, but the amount of terraforming energy you get from the different types of enemies feels a little too uneven. I feel like sometimes I get a bunch of small enemy spawns in a row and end up with a very low supply of energy as a result.

Finally, I really love how the game looks. Everything has just the right amount of detail to make the downres effect look amazing, and the vaguely uncanny feeling of the eyes and weapons works great.

I enjoyed this game thoroughly, I was happy to find such a product at the game jam
