LD52 — Harvest

Scream of the Crop by indegame 2023-01-10T04:59:10Z

Wow! Amazing Art and Music! The three characters makes it feel like an old school brawler, which was cool. I actually really like the concept of a bullet hell with multiple concurrent characters like that.

A few visual bugs, the text for the Arboarist shows as "Player" and doesn't ever change, and the text for the bag restriction never changes beyond 4.

Scaling is weird, every enemy feels incredibly tanky to start, but later every enemy dies by the player walking over them.

Aiming as the Sheepherd felt really weird.

It was sometimes hard to tell what was and wasn't an enemy, and where projectiles were actually coming from. Also, some enemies spawned off the screen. AI usually helped with that, but whenever the player is the only one remaining this quickly becomes dull as the player feels around the edges of the screen for the last plant. Speaking of which, the player can just walk off the edge of the screen. Like, a good distance.

The AI was immediately killed by the King Potato, consistently. Bosses have an insane amount of health compared to basic enemies, and don't seem to do much, outside of the Cornucopia. Because of this, the second and third boss feel quite dull, and probably would've been better off just replacing them with the Cornucopia boss again. Is there anything past the third boss? The game closed whenever I beat him. Not sure if this was a crash or intentional.

At one point I encountered a bug where I was controlling two characters at once. I was controlling one character whenever he died, and then I believe I was simply given control of the two remaining characters. There should probably be 1 central variable (i.e. Character PlayerCharacter = Character.Cheaper), as opposed to 1 variable for each character (i.e. bool ControllingCheaper = false, ControllingSheep = false, ControllingArboarist = true)

Overall very good work! I had a lot to say because I played it (I believe) until the end.

The composition of the windows is very strange. The shop quickly becomes pointless, but its given just as much space as the inventory window, which is where I spent most of my time looking.

I would've liked to see the little bugs I was combining together actually walk around on the screen, and I would've liked to see more of them.

Gameplay is very slow, which isn't a necessarily a bad thing, but I think I would've had more fun if there was more than 1 plant sprouting at a time, and more than 1 bug on the screen at a time.

VTuber Manager 2023 by Moonblast 2023-01-09T20:49:35Z

Very good looking game.

Some of the character traits like Righteous do not appear to work. Banned characters still seem to be having their activities activate.

I like that the player's options for activities is randomized, but I think I would take it even further, and have abilities be randomized for each character. This deters the strategy of finding a good money making activity, having all 3 do that, and spamming the continue button every day. Which is what I did.

Plant to Survive by oddang 2023-01-09T19:29:39Z

Neat!

It took me some time to realize that the player actually took time to plant, and it was not just spotty detection. This doesn't feel great. An easy band aid would just be to slap a little digging sound while the player is waiting for the plant to be placed.

There does seem to be spotty detection on upgrading the plants. I have to click more than a few times to actually get the menu to upgrade the plants. (As I've just just figured out, you can be at any distance and upgrade plants... any distance except for directly beside the plants.) But there doesn't seem to be an advantage over upgrading a plant as opposed to making a bunch of little plants.

The difficulty scales pretty fast, it doesn't seem to take very long until I get into a position where planting anything will get me killed (Health cost, and the stampede of grandmas). Slow down the scaling health drain, and add some kind of comeback mechanic, like little health packs. Maybe the plants could grow over time, and upgrade themselves?

The graphics are cute, and I like the shifting sprites!

Keep it up!

Grave Harvest by Nartyna 2023-01-09T21:11:01Z

Whenever the main character walks up ("W") it makes me think of the dance Patrick Bateman does. So, points for that.

Aside from that, the graphics in the intro are pretty muddy. In the actual game, it seems like everything has a different art style.

It took me a while to find the pumpkin patch, and took me even longer to realize I was supposed to be feeding the pumpkin seeds. Would've been helpful to start the player directly beside the pumpkin. I also managed to find the flowers that were able to be watered, and they didn't seem to accomplish anything.

I kept my progress between games. I can't imagine that was intended, but I did.

I liked the ghosts, and I especially like the effect on their text!

Incredible! I am speechless! Though, I did manage to get negative seeds at one point, so there's clearly something wrong there.

Very fun! The controls were a bit weird.

Oregon Trail: Hot Pursuit by merrak 2018-04-25T03:01:19Z

Very fun. The visuals and audio are great. I was playing on a laptop, and didn't have a dedicated numpad, so hunting was a bit weird. My partner, Bingus, managed to get posthumous dysentery (I think he had dysentery before he died, too? Not sure.) Overall really good. Great work.

Blind Racing by EthanLittle909 2018-04-24T23:16:09Z

Neat idea, and pretty fun. I certainly would've liked to play more. It might have been more time efficient to make randomly generated levels, rather than make them by hand, but obviously that depends on several factors. I was curious to see what would've happened if I put down several starts/ ends in the level maker, of course I didn't get to see the result, but it's something you should plan for, if you didn't. Thanks for the feedback on CarNivore!
