Priceless!

11tomi12 2017-12-06 20:51

Great and funny game. I really love the gameplay and graphics! But those kittens can easily break off of mothers grab :(

If you are interested, please check out my LD40 game [Escape Infection!](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/escape-infection)

andreas-ragen-ayal 2017-12-06 21:03

@11tomi12 actually the grab lasts only for a couple of seconds by design. I should have mentioned that.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

cxsquared 2017-12-06 21:38

Super cute art and it was pretty fun. I really enjoyed the way the kittens moved. I think having some special kittens who are harder or more random to get would make the game even better. Nice work.

gatinmnsok 2017-12-06 21:42

Funny game, would be fun to have more different levels. Time limit per level was very high :)

mrtnldm 2017-12-06 21:42

Pretty art and good overall design. I love the simplicity and capturing the theme. It's fun to play!

aaronw 2017-12-06 22:25

This is actually one of my favorite games so far, this is heaven. Good work!

kataware 2017-12-07 00:14

One of the nicer funy little games I've played.

It had a lot of polish, and the grab lasting a few seconds as well as the player bouncing everywhere made it quiet a difficult game. For me, I think the bounce was a little too much, or that the time was too short, but I'm not very good at hard games xd

Due to the level design and bounciness, I would either be between the red sofa and the nest, just dropping them in one by one, or struggling to get into the whole left between them, with a cat in my mouth that would jump out as soon as I failed my jump.

Sometimes I found I was unable to grab a kitten, not sure why. Other than that, the music fit really well, and the graphics were exceptional as well! Who doesn't love kittens!

And also, thanks for leaving such an in depth review of my game, I reallly reallly appreciate that :)

disperse 2017-12-07 00:18

I loved it! The ability to grab kittens out of mid-air is great.

goat-toaster-games 2017-12-07 00:38

I absolutely ADORED this!

gruhh 2017-12-07 00:45

I liked the mechanics associated with the theme, the chaotic side of the game matches well with the proposal of an abstract physics, congratulations to the game.

Gostei da mecânica associada ao tema, o lado caótico do jogo combina bem com a proposta de uma física abstrata, parabéns pelo jogo. :flag_br:

aaforcebox 2017-12-07 01:11

Hi! I Love the artstyle and the mechanics, even though they are very simple. The critical point in the game is that it needs balance! You're giving too much time to colllect a few kittens, making it almost impossible to lose. Anyway, goob job overall.

And thanks for the feedback on my game (Goonisher). :D

muromets 2017-12-07 02:22

It was so great watching the kittens bounce off that red thing, I found the levels a bit on the easier side, and the arcade mode is more challenging, or at least it feels that way with each wave, nicely done!

flaterectomy 2017-12-07 10:42

A cute kitten game! The mechanics pretty easy to understand within several seconds. The bouncing made the game a little more complicated, but in a good way. I kind of wish there were several levels with different setups though. The kittens rolling around helplessly was funny. I wish you didn't use the E key for grabbing the cats, though. Spacebar would've felt a lot more comfortable to me. And sometimes pressing E when the indicator comes up doesn't result in a successful grab. It's a smart move recolouring the kittens when they are grabbed.

I am starting to sound like a broken record in my comments on games in general this Ludum Dare, but I am not a fan of scaling sprites differently in a game. There is a clear difference between the player cat, the kittens, and even the Mona Lisa in the background. If the scaling was consistent, the game's visual style immediately becomes a lot more uniform. The colour scheme also has room for improvement, as red, yellow, brown and peach are all on the same small side of the colour wheel. Another inconsistency is the anti-aliasing around the black opening of the nest, while the other outlines in the game have no anti-aliasing at all.

Using the webclient on Firefox I also lost the top of the screen: https://i.imgur.com/6tp4Dj4.jpg

The music is cute and doesn't get too repetitive. I wish there were sound effects for dropping off a kitten in the nest, picking them up, them escaping your grasp and for jumping. That would've added a lot of character to the game.

All in all a fun little game that would've only needed a few more superficial tweaks to really feel crisp. I hope my comments are of use to you.

Wow. I should go to sleep more often, if it results in so much feedback. Let's start from the top!

@cxsquared, you are right! Some specia kittens would certainly be a good idea. Once I get tired of playing others' games, I'll see if we can get some special kittens.

@gatinmnsok, @aaforcebox, you are correct, the playtesters in our local LDjam also felt that the time given in the normal play mode was far too long. Because the kittens are randomly generated, in random numbers, I thought that having random time proportional to the number of kittens would be a good idea. turns out I was wrong. I think I'll take a leaf from the arcade mode, because that has fixed a time per kitten of about 3-5s. Which is why you found it more difficult, @muromets: It was.

@flaterectomy, the cut out UI is interesting. I think I messed up the camera settings in the build settings. I didn't notice that before. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I think I can get that fixed pretty quickly. The 'E' and 'space' conversation is a bit more complex. Playtesters ar the local LDjam felt that space for jumping instead of 'W' or the up arrow key is more intuitive. Keyboard setting preference is something hat is never going to be a standard, I'm afraid and the only fix I can think of is rebindable keys. Thanks for the feedback on the art style. We'll try and do better next time.

Once again, thank you to everyone for having a go at our game. As a bunch of newbies, it's really nice to read about people enjoying our game and the feedback is much appreciated.

goloso-games 2017-12-07 18:58

Really cute game. Easy to understand what to do, music is nice. Great work, I enjoyed playing it :)

rolle 2017-12-07 19:31

Nice idea and a fun cute game! And cats! There is some bug (?) though, sometime the cat goes to another "room" and is then gone, no way to get all cats home then. Some refinement and I think you could have a fun game on mobile devices that a lot of people might want to play. I liked it anyway. And my daughter. =) Nicely done!

andreas-ragen-ayal 2017-12-07 19:54

@rolle could you describe the steps to reproduce the missing cat? I've not encountered this yet.

It's good to know that people enjoy our game. Thanks for the feedback. :)

rolle 2017-12-07 20:14

@andreas-ragen-ayal I believe it happened when it got to the left of the sofa and somehow when I jumped on it/tried to carry it, it was gone (got into the next room?). So it was impossible to clear the stage at that point. Once we also accidentally bounced a cat "into space" (via the red chair in the middle). :-) But that-one actually fell down like 20 sec later...maybe that was intended though. It was fun feature! :)

andreas-ragen-ayal 2017-12-07 20:29

Aah. I see. I also think I understand what happened. Interesting bug. I'll have to fix that after LD. The bouncing into orbit is intended and no kitten should disappear as a result of that. :D

Thanks!

lex 2017-12-07 21:02

Did you paint that Mona Lisa yourself? A masterpiece.

safrmo 2017-12-07 22:57

This is really sweet! Super easy to pick up, but just challenging and cute enough to be addictive. I loved the music, graphics, and gameplay - everything in this game felt like it knew exactly what it wanted to be, and that's a hard feeling to get in any game, let alone a game jam project. Great work!

strega 2017-12-08 07:23

Cute graphics and audio. The kitten physics was funny to see.

samurai-spark 2017-12-08 18:07

Hey @Andreas-Ragen-Ayal

very very nice entry! :) I loved the simple mechanics and gameplay it was really enjoyable and fun. The pixel art were well-made and the audio was just perfect for the gameplay! I had a lot of fun with the physics, whose were my favorite^^

Finally, a really awesome game, good job

joror 2017-12-08 23:34

Fun little game, 'like herding cats' but then with very energetic kittens.

Jumping and holding on the little ones was a bit hard tho :D but in the end I managed (or bounced them).

the-triumvirate 2017-12-10 00:41

Nice little game although the kittens are sometimes in unhealthy positions.

dvdfu 2017-12-12 03:37

Very solid entry! It's a funny concept to start, and the main gameplay loop is frantic and fun. I like that the objects have various physics (like the bouncy cushion). Great work!

blinry 2017-12-17 23:28

I love everything about this! :D The weird kitty physics, the mirrored "E" button, the strange pickup mechanics, how the big cat looks at the viewer, how the small kitties try to climb on everything...! Also, the music is really catchy, and I fell in love with the space-mew sound (so much that we cloned the GitHub repo, extracted the meow, and might use it as a notification sound :P) <3 Thanks for making this, we had a really great time with this game, and will definitely show this around!

Bug report: The web version is a little cut-off at the top! :)

larkinia 2017-12-17 23:43

A very funny, cute little game. I love how the kittens are climbing over each other and jumping and bouncing and tumbling! Different levels in different rooms would be nice, though.

flauschzelle 2017-12-17 23:45

Aaaw, what a cute game =(^_^)= It feels a bit like juggling lots of very light, fluffy, bouncing balls - the bouncy physics feel very exaggerated but that makes it even more hilarious. And I love the meow sounds :) It's also fun to just watch the little kittens jump around and roll over each other.
