LD39 — Running out of Power

Infinitree by Quaternius 2017-07-31T20:35:35Z

Fun game! The controls are simple, and the art is consistent and pleasant to look at. The tutorial was a little bit quick but I figured it out. If you turn side to side and use growth spurts you cannot lose. Using that strategy I got just over 1km with nearly full power before quitting: 1km.png The music was well done, but the 'jungle' feel I got from it didn't quite fit with the artwork. Overall, it was fun and I think definitely worth expanding and experimenting with touchscreen devices.

Core Defender by Spexxilove 2017-07-31T21:17:05Z

Fun little concept. Just like many others, I died after 50-something seconds, when I was suddenly overwhelmed by the huge wave of enemies. The blue color in the darkness was a bit hard on the eyes. Overall, it's not bad.

Bounty by Gurvan 2017-07-31T17:46:24Z

The game play idea was not bad, and I really like how you used influence as a definition of 'power' for the theme.

My first impression, however, was that the ship turns way too quickly and ends up spinning in circles. I was able to swim onto the land and get outside of the map bounds, which caused the ship to spin even more when turning. The island bounds were a little bit too large and blocky, and the 'cannonplay' was difficult and didn't seem necessary, so after trying for a bit I just ignored the other ships. The sailing sound effect sounded like running your hand in a bathtub, which I thought was funny.

The graphics fit together well and were acceptable overall.

The Fall by Badosz 2017-07-31T18:00:30Z

The soundtrack was nice, I think you should have kept it playing quietly in the background of the game instead of just the main menu. The game was a bit too dark, and with the lack of the soundtrack during the gameplay I almost jumped out of my chair when I accidentally hit a bomb. The fact that the bombs weren't drawn as sea mines was rather disappointing as well. Also, going straight down is the best strategy - at the speed you go, bombs coming from the top will never hit you, and you will never hit bombs that are below you.

Hungry Sky by edmond00 2017-07-31T21:05:51Z

The graphics are really well done. The gameplay is simple, but the delay in movement is not very good. It seems the game is lacking incentive - why do I need food? How the lightning strikes worked was a bit of a mystery. There were red bars, but only the last one indicated where it would strike. The lack of background music was overshadowed by the rain sound, which worked well to set the mood. The game is missing a goal/incentive, which made it a bit boring after a minute.

Sperms and Passwords by Snirp 2017-07-31T18:34:09Z

I remember playing escape room games like this on Newgrounds back in '08-09. I also remember almost never being able to solve any of the puzzles. The interactions (aside from moving and observing) are very difficult to use. I lost patience before figuring out what the other two options do and how to use them. The text in the game is a little bit uncomfortable to read. Not bad for your first game though.

MICROSCOPIC by XedithDev 2017-07-31T17:31:30Z

Played your game for about 15 minutes. Here's what I think:

**Things you did well:** Gameplay is very simple - straightforward instructions are included in the main menu. Film grain and microscope effect was a nice touch. Soundtrack was alright.

**Things you can improve on:** The game is way too easy - viruses are too slow, and energy refills too quickly; I spent most of the time staying still killing viruses then gobble up the largest field of blue energy balls and repeat the process. Your game, just like mine, suffers from the 'Where's the exit button' syndrome.

Torch Boy by FloBar 2017-07-31T20:55:02Z

The game is solid - the rules are fairly straightforward and the artwork looks simple and well done. The gameplay is a bit too difficult for my taste. The controls are unusual and a bit tricky to get used to (kept pressing spacebar to jump). I enjoyed how the time slowed down while you were charging.

PowerBall by Mejlvang Games 2017-07-31T21:38:13Z

The game is pretty fun to play. The camera/direction controls are a little bit strange, but it was easy to get used to. I felt like I was at a laser tag hunting down power orbs. The battery drain sound effect created a sense of urgency. I loved the way the ragdoll stretched out when you died, hilarious.

High Rise by AMastryukov 2017-07-31T18:05:37Z

For those of you asking if there is a way to win the game - the answer is no, the building is infinite. If you think this game is worth expanding though, definitely let me know and do not hold back criticism. Thanks!

High Rise by AMastryukov 2017-07-31T18:22:34Z

@Gurvan: My guess is that the blurriness is a result of certain resolutions. What resolution did you play it on? Also I agree with your criticism of the difficulty. If I continue working on it I will definitely rework the difficulty curve to make it much more rewarding to play.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Unsocial Media by CreativeWhisper 2017-12-12T17:17:20Z

**Pros:** Interesting concept & social commentary. UI design was cool.

**Cons:** Buggy. No explanation/tutorial.

This is an interesting idea with a somewhat unsuccessful execution. It is neither terrible nor great, but somewhere in between. It was a unclear how certain hashtags would relate to the moods and types of posts, perhaps because of a bug? I was also not sure how the game relates to the theme until I read your posts - in either case it wasn't explicit in the gameplay itself.

Yard Time by tangiblegames 2017-12-11T19:39:37Z

**Pros:** Hilarious and addicting gameplay. Top-notch sound effects. Beautiful graphics.

**Cons:** It was a little bit annoying having to re-click each prisoner individually.

This game is amazing - easy to learn, funny and addicting. The graphics are reminiscent of Prison Architect and Rimworld, and animations were great. Sound effects were hilarious. The game is very polished and simple. Right on point, especially for a LD Jam game. I would consider expanding this game further, and port it to mobile. I would have a prisoner remain selected after giving a move instruction, as having to re-click prisoners over and over again got a little bit frustrating.

The Beforlorne Wander by pvtroswold 2017-12-10T23:08:04Z

**Pros:** The game is polished. Graphics are good. Music sets a good atmosphere. Different enemies and bosses were a good addition. Level design was well done.

**Cons:** Controls are a little weird. Didn't match the theme.

I like this game - it is simple and fun to play and the music created a unique atmosphere for each area. Controls were a little bit strange and I'm still not used to them. The game didn't match the theme, but it was a good game nonetheless.

A strange mental disorder by Lukesta 2017-12-09T14:51:30Z

**Pros:** Really cool concept - different abilities were fun to play around with. Interesting experimentation with particle effects.

**Cons:** Music got annoying very quickly and didn't really match the game. Mouse kept going off-screen and alt-tabbing the game.

This is an interesting idea worth reworking. Perhaps you could consider polishing the gameplay a bit more and not focusing too much attention on details like animation and particle effects until the end.

Sad Knight by Quaternius 2017-12-06T04:48:58Z

**Pros:** Addicting gameplay, cool powerups (powerdowns), polished graphics, matching music and sounds.

**Cons:** Not very player-friendly controls; using the mouse to look around and change movement direction would have been much better.

Nearly perfect - high quality, good polish and solid and entertaining gameplay. Wasn't expecting anything short of amazing from you, good job! Change the controls though.

dang homeless people! by TheGejr 2017-12-09T14:39:07Z

**Pros:** Graphics are pleasant to look at. Gameplay idea is funny and matches the theme.

**Cons:** Coin pickup is frustrating - colliders aren't very good. Homeless people are a little too fast, so the game gets difficult quickly.

Overall a nice little compo game.

Drug Dealer by Hadermite 2017-12-05T23:20:39Z

**Pros:** Interesting idea.

**Cons:** Heavily underdeveloped; low-effort graphics, no sound.

To be honest, the game had an interesting premise but was executed poorly. The graphics weren't just low-effort, they were bad. Instead of the stickman try using a circle to represent people, or even a square as those look much more neat than a hand-drawn stickman. Don't worry about adding more weapons or game progression if the game isn't polished enough. A short, 1-minute game that is polished and fun is better than a 1-hour game that is unpolished and boring.

Money transporter by lexi 2017-12-05T03:29:51Z

**Pros:** Simple, pretty graphics. Gameplay was fun and engaging.

**Cons:** A little bit too easy. No sounds at all.

Consider adding some suspenseful music and/or sound. As others said before, try messing around with level progression. Very solid game overall, I like it.

Shooter Guy by sirikan 2017-12-11T04:13:12Z

**Pros:** Hilarious sound effects and graphics.

**Cons:** Rooms were too big and empty. Enemies were too easy.

The game had a classic 'Wolfenstein' feel like others mentioned. The way the bullets flew and enemies died was great, gave me a chuckle.

Pirate Game by soerensen3 2017-12-05T23:08:58Z

**Pros:** Fun gameplay.

**Cons:** Controls are poor (it's difficult to keep your hand on the arrow keys and spacebar at the same time if you wish to move the camera around).

The idea is pretty neat, and the game is pretty fun to play if you develop it more. The controls are pretty uncomfortable, but that is easily changed.

Busted! An Epic Cops Vs Robbers Endless Runner! by CaylebLucas 2017-12-12T16:52:44Z

**Pros:** Solid gameplay. Good setting.

**Cons:** Side-to-side movement was not too great.

Classic endless runner game with an interesting setting. Side-to-side movement in these games is usually locked to 3 lanes, so this was unusual, especially because there were 3 lanes of items on the road. Jumping was a little bit too sluggish. Definitely good for a game made in under 24 hours. There is potential to expand onto mobile platforms if you polish up the movement and flesh it out a little bit more. Good work.

Disaster Strikes by sean.beyer 2017-12-11T03:53:22Z

**Pros:** Simple yet elegant graphics. Awesome gameplay.

**Cons:** Hard to read some text. Instructions were overwhelming at first, but then the game is too easy when I got the hang of it.

This is a very fun game with potential. If you make a more interactive tutorial, more objectives and better text feedback it would be very addicting. Great submission!

Games: Behind The Scenes by Gatox 2017-12-11T18:50:40Z

**Pros:** Great graphics. Very unique and fun gameplay idea. Fitting music. Pretty polished for a jam game.

**Cons:** A few sound effects were way too loud. Poor in-game instructions (which you fixed in the description).

This is a fantastic game! Like others say, this is definitely worth pursuing post-jam. Consider adding a short tutorial in the beginning, as it took me forever to figure out how to play before I read the description. Perhaps also try to make transitions between places take less time (or make them seamless), as the majority of the game you are going between rooms and transitioning seems redundant.

Tank Thunder by net3ton 2017-12-04T18:00:23Z

**Pros:** Gameplay is solid. Graphics are decent. Fits the theme.

**Cons:** Enemies spawn too quickly. No sounds.

Sounds often add a lot to the experience. Try adding some sounds and maybe even background music for the game.

The explorer by Stepan Shabalin 2017-12-09T15:11:35Z

**Pros:** Controls are intuitive; graphics are simple and clean.

**Cons:** Sometimes controls are weird - feels like too much friction. Music fits the beginning when you have to escape but gets repetitive quickly.

Overall a neat game, not too much to complain about. The controls are easy to pick up and hard to master, but are not that fun to play with. Game is too difficult right away, and there are no checkpoints, which made me quit after about 10 tries.

Capitalistic Lootboxes Overwhelmed by SimonTheCase 2017-12-05T23:34:19Z

Great graphics and attention to detail. Fitting music and sounds. Very polished and fun to play. Nothing negative that's notable. Love the social commentary!

DrugRunner by AMastryukov 2017-12-05T01:24:56Z

@jean During this compo I had to cut something down to make the deadline; figured it would be the menu and the exit button instead of the music. Thanks for playing!

DrugRunner by AMastryukov 2017-12-05T16:55:49Z

@jynspielt I will definitely increase the amount of boost you get from cocaine, it is nearly impossible to win the game at these settings. Thanks for checking it out!

DrugRunner by AMastryukov 2017-12-08T14:57:00Z

@jupiter-hadley thanks for playing and making a video!

DrugRunner by AMastryukov 2017-12-11T02:32:20Z

@pvtroswold Thanks for playing! There actually is an end goal - get to the other side by taking cocaine (but not too quickly). Unfortunately, neither I nor anybody else I know of was able to actually get to the other side; it's way too difficult.

DrugRunner by AMastryukov 2017-12-12T19:33:20Z

**UPDATE:** After reviewing the Ludum Dare rules, I have reclassified this game as a ‘Jam’ game. Despite having completed it alone within the Compo-allotted timeframe, some assets were created by others (namely, @quaternius kindly provided 3D models for the vehicle and buildings, while the sounds were found online). Sorry about the confusion.

Drugrun by Fluffi 2017-12-05T03:18:24Z

**Pros:** Cool graphics, fun meth gameplay and feel.

**Cons:** Options menu had words blending into the background.

I like your take on 'drug running'. I found it interesting how both of our games have a similar idea, theme and even name but we took entirely different approaches.

Anxiety by Jean 2017-12-04T16:39:12Z

**Pros:** The artwork and animation conveys a sense of anxiety.

**Cons:** Bugs (getting stuck on the side of the platform), movement feels weird.

Next game, focus on completing and polishing gameplay before making the artwork and animations. Not bad for a first game, keep making more!

Leaning Tower by Patrick D 2017-12-04T17:10:03Z

**Pros:** Interesting game mechanic. Clean sprites and UI. Pretty graphics.

**Cons:** Game is not quite balanced (pun intended); takes too long until it becomes challenging and becomes difficult too quickly.

I would consider making the tower rooted inside the ground rather than bouncing around cut off at the bottom. Perhaps make the movements smoother as well. The game is clean and I've encountered no bugs so far, so good work on that.

Growing Earth by TrolledWoods 2017-12-04T18:35:28Z

**Pros:** Challenging gameplay. Nice graphics.

**Cons:** Music doesn't match very well with the 'feel' of the game.

Stars in the background would have been a nice touch. Colour shifting based on the consumed planets' colours would be cool as well. Good work, considering you made it in 6 hours.

I took too many drugs by Neecko 2017-12-10T22:49:45Z

**Pros:** Great use of effects. Fun gameplay idea (requires strategy). Great atmosphere accompanied by matching music.

**Cons:** No win condition. Some effects were a little bit overwhelming.

Hilarious and interesting idea. I't's great to see you interpretation of the theme in terms of drugs, I've noticed a few games this Ludum Dare (including mine) that went with this idea, and they've all been different. Good work!

LD42 — Running out of space

Cache_ by Gamescalation 2018-08-13T18:12:53Z

**Pros** - Graphics are very fitting - Gameplay is engaging and simple - Sound effects were cool, music was alright

**Cons** - I was able to glitch outside of the map - Hitboxes need some work on some enemies - Controls felt a little weird (perhaps try using only mouse controls; right-click to move, etc)

Overall, the game was very polished and fun to play. Enemies were a little bit annoying but I can't complain since I don't usually play this type of games. Good work!

Crispy's Planetary Survival by Batsphemy 2018-08-13T17:23:23Z

**Pros** - Simple to pick up & play - Has a main menu, character variety, high scores, help screen

**Cons** - No point in playing the larger character other than for increased difficulty - Possible to get outside of the screen and lose track of character

Pretty simple game with decent polish and no serious bugs. Good work!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Precedence by chauchau 2018-12-28T16:15:41Z

**The Good:** Atmosphere was intriguing and graphics were fairly polished. The world and narrative was interesting to explore.

**Needs Improvement:** There was no goal to the game. Even if it's an exploration game it didn't explain anything and left the player in confusion. The control scheme was strange as well - moving forward and backward and turning sideways with arrow keys/WASD may work for tanks but does not work well for humanoid controllers.

It's under control by ludipe 2018-12-28T18:15:49Z

**The Good:** Gameplay idea was neat and was surprisingly well executed. Sound effects were fitting and the simplicity and variance of the blocks was interesting considering how complex life can be.

**Needs Improvement:** Adding a goal, challenges and achievements would make this game much more fun to play. What you've done is very good for under 24 hours, and you should definitely consider working further on it and pushing it on mobile.

Oath of Balance by pickens-inc 2018-12-28T16:00:21Z

**The Good:** Controls are intuitive, the graphics are simple yet convey the atmosphere effectively. The amount of effort that went into models and the types of enemies and animations is high. Music fit the atmosphere somewhat, and I appreciate that you put it in but opted out of the category since it is not your track (not your music is better than no music). The idea of killing enemies near an altar for a powerup was interesting.

**Needs Improvement:** Game-breaking exploit occurs if you hold both right-click and left-click on your mouse - you become invincible and your attack speed increases dramatically. The enemy collisions prevented much movement if standing near one of the altars, giving the player little leeway in their strategy. The final boss was way too tanky (I beat him easily using the exploit above, however).

Hamster DRUMA by shide 2018-12-28T17:03:23Z

This game is absolutely amazing, really difficult to believe it was done in under 72 hours. From sound effects to animations this game is exceptionally well done.

blood snow and wolves by miziziziz 2018-12-28T13:47:20Z

**The Good:** Great atmosphere that harmonizes with sound effects and visuals. Gameplay mechanics and controls are simple to understand. I was surprised by the fact that you even added a reload animation - that is attention to detail and it definitely had a positive impact on me.

**Needs Improvement:** Too much pointless walking with little reward; having to walk for a long time in a desolate snowy plain isn't much fun. Player footsteps feel useless as they disappear very quickly and hunting requires the player to walk very far from the cabin. Some animals didn't drop any food which may have been a bug. Having to track down a pack of animals and hunting them but getting nothing in return was dissatisfying.

Alien Escape by aemiliu5 2018-12-28T16:35:44Z

**The Good:** Interesting alien-switching mechanic. Music was pretty good.

**Needs Improvement:** Movement (especially jumping) feels floaty and unpleasant. Too many aliens to control. Platforms are unpleasant and distracting to look at with the very tiny grid pattern. Levels are way too long and difficult, I wanted to play more but couldn't get myself to continue.

A Day in the Antarctica by Khud0 2018-12-27T16:51:15Z

**The Good:** Fits the theme. Artwork adds to the atmosphere. Well-executed dark humor concept. Controls are simple and straightforward.

**Needs Work:** No HUD - how many penguins are there on the level? How lit is the fire when I'm not in its range?

Personally, I wasn't a fan of the trailing effects - they seemed raw to me, but others liked it so it's not necessarily bad by design. Also a note - if you didn't make the music personally, you may want to either opt-out of that category or submit it for the jam.

Rituals and stuff by souperstrawer 2018-12-03T13:48:12Z

**The Good:** Spell casting on to ground tiles is cool - if the way they draw is refined and different spells are added it would be really cool. The movement feels nice and the way the walls show up looks interesting as well. The writings were fun to read. Art style is consistent.

**The Bad:** Without sound the world feels empty and dead (in a bad way) - next time, add some crappy 5-minute sound effects. It would make the game a lot more fun. Don't sacrifice things if the spell isn't actually castable on something (ie. not a door). Minor UI scaling issues that caused much of the text to be off-screen.

Reaper by Daniel Conway 2018-12-27T17:25:09Z

**The Good:** The gameplay is fun, the graphics are good for a compo.

**Needs Work:** The soundtrack sounds weird, got annoying very quickly.

Santacrifice by SvartTand 2018-12-28T16:49:04Z

**The Good:** Hilarious sound effects and graphics created a playful environment. Gameplay was enjoyable and kept me playing for quite a bit. Shooting required some skill which was a good thing.

**Needs Improvement:** Controlling the car/tank feels a bit strange as it does not reflect the way this kind of vehicle would move in other games. The UI looked a bit raw and unpolished.

Eztli by lilkrit 2018-12-28T18:07:37Z

**The Good:** Game is straightforward and akin to generic fetch quest adventure games. Controls are simple and follow the general FPS control scheme. Graphics are pretty good for a 3D compo game made in UE4. Fits the theme as well.

**Needs Improvement:** Sound effects & ambient track or soundtrack are an absolute must for a game, especially a game like this when you have a dungeon and an outside area and considering how much effort you put into the atmosphere already.

Internal Affairs by AMastryukov 2018-12-28T19:46:16Z

@phi I had attempted to balance the numbers using a uniform distribution. However, because of the time limit I decided to instead keep it simple and instead polish other (arguably easier) aspects of the game like the soundtrack, SFX, artwork and narrative. I wanted to make a random face generator and even drafted the idea but decided against it as it would be too much work for too little reward. Thank you for playing!

Astronaut's Journey by Radical Dog 2018-12-03T16:51:32Z

**The Good:** Fun mechanics and gameplay loop. Love the newspaper at the end of each attempt. Artwork is simple, clean and pleasant to look at. Menu navigation feels nice.

**Needs Work:** Add sound - for this game sound effects are crucial, especially when the rocket explodes. The rocket starts off too weak and ramps up in power too suddenly. The purpose of science points was unclear.

Very fun game and a great time-waster. You can add polish, more powerups and make it into a full mobile game. Good work!

They are coming. by mosaic 2018-12-03T16:28:56Z

**The Good:** The artwork is cool, the washed-out colors along with the music set a depressing mood. The gameplay was simple and easy to pick up. The custom health, size and strength attributes for each sacrifice was an interesting mechanic.

**Needs Work:** The collisions are buggy at times and the game is too easy to exploit. Starting with an average knight and fighting until you are able to create a nearly maxed-out knight will allow the player to stay at the top edge of the screen and just slice the zombies indefinitely. There were too many unnecessary intro texts that dragged on for too long.

In general, it was a pretty fun game with a unique mechanic.

Endless Nungeon by Haustgeirr 2018-12-28T16:23:46Z

**The Good:** The atmosphere was very consistent - the artwork, music and sound effects worked well together. The gameplay was fun and mechanics were pretty straightforward to understand from the get-go.

**Needs Improvement:** Balancing different powerups might be something to consider, as well as adjusting the difficulty. I felt like the game got difficult fairly quickly and didn't work well with the way regular attacks worked (had to face the enemy to attack, which made it difficult to escape the large horde).

Dungeons of Forfeit by figglewatts 2018-12-03T16:09:37Z

**The Good:** The gameplay is solid and easy to understand - I had no trouble understanding how to play and it was fun. Most of the artwork looks polished and clean. The minimap is a blessing.

**Needs work:** The stepping sound effect is relatively loud and gets annoying very quickly. The levels are way too large for the movement system you have in place, there are rooms that serve no purpose. The health and XP HUD elements don't really fit with the rest of the artwork.

Overall, very impressive compo submission. It is very clear that lots of work and polish went into this.

PhotoSheep by JakNak72 2018-12-27T17:07:05Z

**The Good:** Very innovative, I've never seen anything like this before.

**Needs Work:** Pretty much everything else. The graphics are pretty rough, especially for Photoshop.

Bank on the innovation, I think your game can really score high in that category.

LD44 — Your life is currency

Bloodmoon Season by gogo199432 2019-05-02T21:31:01Z

**THE GOOD** I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the level design. The amount of work put into the animations, models and textures was superb. The mood was set from the start and did not disappoint, kept me on my toes. I enjoyed the variety of weapons.

**NEEDS WORK** Audio felt half-complete. With a simple ambiance track in the background (howling wind, rain or whatever) almost feels necessary to create an eerie feeling in a game like this. There were some bugs with the weapons that required me to switch a few times.

Overall, very well done for a jam. Lighting was fantastic and the core game loop was fun.

Life Hunter by neonian 2019-05-02T17:04:36Z

**THE GOOD** Very fun and addicting core loop. Graphics were polished and sound effects and music fit with the atmosphere. The capture mechanic was fluid. Was consistently challenging and balanced.

**THE BAD** Being stuck in shrubs and rocks didn't feel right. It didn't feel like the game punishing you but rather the physics engine, if you know what I mean.

Overall, this is a very good submission and a job well done.

60 Second Supermarket Sweep by Historymaker118 2019-05-02T17:31:55Z

**THE GOOD** The graphics are pretty good and they fit the gameplay. Level destruction was a good touch.

**THE BAD** The speed upgrade was a necessity to play, otherwise the player is way too slow. The old ladies that stopped you when you bumped into them were a little bit annoying as they took control away from the player. The movement felt a little bit buggy at times (felt like I was slowed down for some time until I moved around in a certain way and gained back speed). Some items were obscured behind shelves and the main entrance wall had clipping issues, making it difficult to see inside if close to the entrance wall.

**THE NEUTRAL** I am unsure about the music. On one hand, it has an Indian touch to it, but then how does it fit in a supermarket setting? Perhaps something more calm, elevator vibe might have been better.

Overall, good entry but requires a lot of adjustments, bug fixes and balancing.

Lifetime by AMastryukov 2019-05-02T12:54:18Z

@balance686 the weapon sounds were mixed from a sample of me clapping my hands. I'm glad someone enjoyed it!

Lifetime by AMastryukov 2019-05-17T13:47:15Z

@pequenodev thanks for playing! Hiding ammo was less of a conscious design decision and more of a workaround on limitation: we actually had 3 equipment slots available for the player (ranged, melee and special) with different weapons but decided against it because it would be a too much work. I liked the way it turned out, however, so we didn't bother spending time to add an ammo counter - crates are plenty around the map so having an ammo counter wouldn't serve as much of a purpose to the player as one would expect.

Blood Type Z by Ceuteum 2019-05-06T15:22:55Z

**THE GOOD** The art style is consistent and the main character clearly had a lot of work put into it, despite the placeholders. Sound was good enough for a jam game and the gameplay was straightforward.

**NEEDS WORK** Obviously, the placeholders looked way out of place and definitely didn't help the experience. That aside, the physics engine was probably the biggest problem I noticed - jumping felt a bit strange, I was bouncing around and didn't have the control I wanted to have over the character.

The game feels mostly complete and fun to play, despite the placeholder sprites.

Souls Store by AlexKishchinskiy 2019-05-06T13:42:25Z

**THE GOOD** The graphics are very good for a jam game with nice animations. The background level was well-put together and the soundtrack was pleasant to listen to, even though it didn't feel perfect for the game.

**NEEDS WORK** I had no idea what was going on, or what I was supposed to do. The instructions are unclear and the translation is confusing. What was the point of hearts? Why should I care if a person runs out of hearts? I always picked the option that gave me the best reputation but lost.

It is clear that you know what you are doing in Unity, but I would suggest you focus on your strengths and make a game that does not require such extensive use of English, or make it very clear what the player is supposed to be doing.

Servant to the Reaper by MediocreMonty 2019-05-15T14:25:45Z

Hilarious, I loved it!

It feels like killing takes a bit too long and leaving the shop should use the ESCAPE key, not E. Not sure how to get health back either, might be worth considering as a shop upgrade. These did not affect my score of your game because proper gameplay balancing is not possible for a jam without blind luck. Good work!

Document Shrederer by kinuni 2019-05-06T14:45:46Z

**THE GOOD** The atmosphere was consistent with clean visuals. The gameplay idea was solid and easy to pick up without any instructions.

**NEEDS WORK** The game is very difficult from the beginning, and not in a good way: the character moves way too slowly and is unable to dodge incoming projectiles. The attack speed is a bit strange too, seemingly going on cooldown for no reason without any feedback. Very frustrating to play in the beginning.

Overall, pretty basic concept with consistent visuals. Balancing definitely needs work. I suggest you adjust the values so that people playing it can actually enjoy it from the start.

The Boxer's Pact: Fausts of Fury by ScalphaMission 2019-05-02T21:45:47Z

**THE GOOD** The concept is great. Game loop is simple and easy to understand. Controls are comfortable. The training mode was very useful to learn how the game works (I love how the exit sign is the exit button, nice touch).

**NEEDS WORK** The upgrades felt a bit strange and a little unnecessary, more like an afterthought than an integrated part of the gameplay. Sound effects were decent but the music felt a bit out of place (I can see what you were trying to go for, but I don't think it worked out). The blocking feedback was strange, took me a while to realize that the block is displayed above the person who is attacking, not the person who is attacked. Some decals (people in the crowd) felt out of place as well as they looked more realistic than the fighters.

Overall, impressive entry for a jam game. Good work!

D.R.I.E.D. by JasonD 2019-05-15T12:51:09Z

Exceptionally well-done! Reminds me of FTL without the battles. I wish you had another person to work on some sort of battle minigame, but I wasn't disappointed. Very fun game!

LD45 — Start with nothing

Buried Things by Skyeward 2019-10-08T01:13:17Z

The artwork is great, the music fits with the game and the little bit of humor was a nice touch.

However, I have no idea where to find most of the items. I've spent about 20 minutes looking and only found 4 (end of maze, digging icon mirage, tumbleweed and the oasis one).

L.D. Noire by karlipoppins 2019-10-09T11:44:30Z

This is really good, especially for a compo game. The amount of thought, content and polish that went into this is incredible. Exceptionally well done.

The only thing I didn't find great was the fact that everything felt disconnected - there was seemingly no connection between the clues - why would the sewers have the code? Why did I need to go to the fortune teller to get a crystal ball? Things like this I would have never figured out on my own, but thankfully you had a guide which basically alleviated any of the issues I've had with that. This did not affect the score I gave because this is not an expectation of a LD game, especially not a compo, but if you plan on making any more detective games in the future then definitely pay some thought into how the clues are going to be connected.

I can't immediately see how it fits the theme (other than the fact that you have nothing in your inventory) but everything else is absolutely on point. Fantastic work!

Veni, Vidi, Upgradici by Kornel 2019-10-08T15:27:58Z

This is a great execution of the original idea I had for the jam. I'm glad we did something different because you did it so exceptionally well! Progression is a bit strange because you can upgrade everything else before even having a single enemy (what I did the first time around) but that's not something to complain about for a jam with this theme.

Ragtag Rescue by Tim Ruswick 2019-10-08T01:38:49Z

This is a great entry!

I do think it is missing a big element that could make it go from great to fantastic - the ability to rotate items before placing them, and possibly some way to remote items once they have been placed. It is far too difficult to consistently collect the crew if steering is impossible at the start since you can only go in one direction with a single thruster. Nonetheless, this game was very fun to play, and the neat little screenshot feature was an amazing addition.

Great entry, I really liked creating new elements. The custom creator was really fun to play with!

Rolley Sh❤t by Andreas Roschal 2019-10-10T00:55:48Z

This game is hilarious, and it's not just a gimmick. The gameplay was engaging and challenging enough to keep me playing until the end. Graphics were well done as well. Overall it was fantastic, innovative and funny. Great work!

Black Hat by ZuhairGhias 2019-10-09T13:21:04Z

@croewens the itch.io page has screenshots of the instruction screens you can use for reference. I'll see what I can do about displaying instructions during gameplay if players get stuck.

@hamzalk we had opted out of the audio category because the music we used was not made by us. We decided that focusing on the gameplay, graphics and overall mood was more important than creating an original soundtrack for this jam. I think we made the right decision.

Thank you for playing!

Starboard: The Pirate Entrepreneur by FlashViper 2019-10-09T12:17:25Z

The graphics, music and the atmosphere was well done. I enjoyed seeing the pirate lingo and the entire game felt silly in a good way.

My only gripe with this were the controls. To me, they felt completely unnatural and inconsistent. The movements resembled how a person would move in a top-down game but at the same time both the movement and turning felt sluggish because it's a ship in the waters. Stopping to fire the cannons made the problem even worse, and the hectic nature of the game didn't make it any easier.

I've played top-down ship games during LD before and this is a common problem I've noticed with sailing controls - ships are by nature sluggish. It takes a lot of work to make controls for a game like this to feel just right.

Detect Nothing by psychic_ash 2019-10-09T11:22:17Z

I didn't really understand how to play. I was walking around and kept an eye on the rising bar, then kept scanning but nothing showed up so I planted the charge and went to the entrance but I died every time. There was a weird hole near the entrance that appeared but I wasn't sure what it meant. Then, I tried to use the console window to read the output the game was giving me (exposure level 6 was the highest I got) but still wasn't able to figure it out. Spent about 10 minutes trying to do it but gave up in the end.

I can definitely imagine how it might have been intended to be played, but it severely lacked in feedback to make me understand what's going on. The map is a bit too large with a confusing layout. Reducing the amount of empty space on the map would greatly benefit the aesthetic in my opinion. The art is well done, however. The sounds are cool but their placement is questionable - the breathing was a nice touch but it definitely didn't sound like a mask, more like someone breathing into their microphone. To achieve the breathing effect, move further away from the microphone and amplify it in Audacity and play around with the equalizer. Also, it came from the entrance rather than the player, which sounded very strange.

Decent entry overall but needs a lot better user feedback. I suggest you polish the gameplay and player feedback first before working on the artwork in the next jam. Good work, nonetheless.

Detect Nothing by psychic_ash 2019-10-09T12:23:38Z

@psychic-ash in terms of user feedback, it might be useful to signify where the user is scanning and how the scanning actually works - is the world a grid and scanning done similar to minesweeper or is the gas canister just hidden randomly on the floor and you need to just walk around and scan for it?

Even with the feedback given by the console, I wasn't able to figure out what the nature of the gas canister was. When the exposure level was 6, I figured it was nearby so I just spammed the scanning button but nothing was coming up. I figured that all I needed to do was just to scan it when it was high and place the charge and go back to the entrance, but then I would die every time. There is nothing telling me that my scan wasn't successful, how close I was (how high is exposure level 6? Are there 6 levels total or is the highest 10? 20? 100?). I see the bar going up but I can't tell how much faster it is moving and where exactly is the threshold that will make me go "oh shit, it's right here somewhere, I just have to scan a few times to find it".

While you're here by Dinorex 2019-10-10T11:55:37Z

Very sad, but I enjoyed it.

My only issue was with the FOV being way too narrow, felt like I was looking through a zoomed-in lens, and the fact that I couldn't re-read letters.

I think you nailed the atmosphere and set the perfect mood, good work!

The Auction House by Huntrox 2019-10-08T15:19:07Z

The gameplay is compelling but it is a bit too difficult to truly understand what you are doing. The entire time I was playing I felt at the mercy of the market with no way to actually "game" it, just randomly buying stuff I could afford and selling it. The inability to set the sell price was especially frustrating.

Either way, the game was fun to play. The UI looks very professional but I feel like the UX needs a bit more work - checkmark filters are great and all but it feels like there is a better way to organize the screen than just have everything in one little window, especially in a bidding game.

You Are Nothing by Sefirost 2019-10-08T01:21:43Z

Having total darkness in the beginning without seeing your character is generally not a good idea. Having said that, the music is pretty good. I'm not sure about the message behind the game, if there is one. Also, letting the players get stuck in the first level if they didn't pick the right color the first time around is also a bit too punishing for my tastes. Overall not bad; puzzles are very hard to get right, especially in a jam.

Skelebro by Redimension Games 2019-10-10T11:43:46Z

Well-made, polished and just challenging enough.

The one thing I noticed is the lack of a fully complete puzzle design. There are various mechanics taught to the player and some of them are used throughout while others are kind of forgotten about: for example, kicking the pumpkin felt like a one (or two) time thing rather than a consistent challenge in the solution. Not expected from a jam game, but something to keep in mind for the future. Other than that the puzzles were challenging enough and had a great feel to them. Platforming felt fluid and consistent and when I failed I did not felt like blaming the game.

Great submission overall.

VoidRunner by TechNSmile 2019-10-08T15:01:20Z

The graphics, mood and concept are interesting. Although it is well done on those fronts, the game severely lacks in gameplay and polish. It is consistently buggy - colliders appear to get stuck and there is nothing stopping the player from failing and having to manually restart the game, which is frustrating.

Despite that, it is a neat idea with a lot of potential. Good work!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Waste of Space by souperstrawer 2020-04-21T23:06:44Z

This is so far the most fun entry I've played. I wish there was better indication of the health of each piece before it randomly falls off but other than that it's very polished and very fun to play. This has a lot of potential for a commercial release. I haven't experienced any issues with framerate (I played the WebGL version). Oh, and one last thing - please reduce the opacity of the grid to about ~10-15%. It gets in the way of the asteroids and breaks immersion. Other than that, it's a lot of fun.

Edit: Also, you absolutely have to add the ability to screenshot and share ship configuration captures.[This was my best one](https://i.imgur.com/5s66MjQ.png).

Dunkegg by Luke Perkin 2020-04-21T22:40:21Z

This was a fun little entry. I loved the artstyle and the absurdity of it. Have to say that I didn't read too much of the interactions because I was too focused on controlling the eggs. The controls feel decent, although I wish I could move them back once I accidentally move them the wrong way. At times, it was very frustrating to bump the walls only slightly and just die. Overall, I liked it a lot, great job!

SMT V final Boss leak by sadsmile 2020-04-21T22:49:01Z

You did a very good job on the graphical aspect of the game - it looks and feels like a boss battle sequence in a turn-based fighting game. I wasn't exactly sure what each of the abilities did (except the healer) but I managed to play until I've exhausted the possibilities and didn't feel like it had any more to offer. I enjoyed it, it felt complete and I didn't notice any game breaking bugs.

STASIS by AMastryukov 2020-04-21T17:40:50Z

@souperstrawer The crash issue is unfortunate, could you give some more details of what you did right before it crashed? I would love to iron that out before more people experience it. Thank you for playing it!

STASIS by AMastryukov 2020-04-21T18:00:54Z

@souperstrawer I should have remembered you used Linux... that could be the issue. Sadly I can't compile a Linux build at the moment so running it through Wine might be the only option for Linux users. I'll play and rate your game soon, I just need to iron out any big issues and get my affairs in order after the jam.

STASIS by AMastryukov 2020-04-22T00:58:55Z

We heard your suggestions and we will increase the default speed of the player. I completely forgot that the walking speed was so slow because I always sprinted when testing.

@revetoon to beat the reboot puzzle, you must get access to the server room by finding all of the fuses and placing them in the fuse box. Then, get the USB on the table and insert it into the computer in the same room and download the reboot commands. Take the USB to the computer in the new chamber overlooking the server room. Press buttons in a way that disables all servers (red light at the bottom of all). Once that is done, enter the password. The server rack aisle labels should give you a clue as to where to go to look for the code.

@big-evil-corporation haha, yes. The final computer is actually a repurposed VHS tape reader included in the framework we used to get started. Not sure why it was used instead of the other computer model. I'll ask my teammate about that.

STASIS by AMastryukov 2020-04-25T00:55:39Z

@legavroche Thank you for playing and for your feedback! We will review the instructions (in the quest log) for that part and clarify it further. I can definitely see that it might be overwhelming right off the bat to have so many requirements to disable OLEC. Our goal was to provide a challenging experience that combines elements of all previous puzzles while adding some extra spice.

STASIS by AMastryukov 2020-05-01T16:41:57Z

@morriekken Yes, the game has heavy performance requirements that can be troublesome for laptops. The cube physics aren't very polished and do require some careful handling.

Dungeon Farmer by TheQiwiBoy 2020-04-21T22:31:00Z

Good job managing to see a game to completion. Scores would definitely be a necessity in this case. I couldn't see much use in swinging the sword around using the mouse after a while since the WASD keys seem to be responsible for most of the work.

Good job, keep making more games! You are definitely ahead of many people in the field, having started so young. Don't let this opportunity go to waste!

Bubbles Saves Grandma by Caladrius 2020-04-22T12:04:14Z

The game looks interesting and funny but the controls make it nearly impossible to play. I got onto the bed after 10 minutes of trying to figure out what to do and got stuck because jumping doesn't trigger when I want to jump onto the shelf. I've tried over and over again, and he just wouldn't jump. He would just roll off the bed and I would have to start all over again. Incredibly frustrating.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

ludum factorum by AMastryukov 2020-10-06T11:42:31Z

Thanks, @bukkaketears! According to Google translate, "ludum factorum" means "the game works?" in Latin. That's why we chose the name.

@rvenson If you are referring to the fact that focusing a specific minigame does not yield scores in other categories, you are absolutely correct, that is intentional.

ludum factorum by AMastryukov 2020-10-06T14:44:01Z

@ree-rolph yeah the rhythm minigame sounds a bit buggy because if you had to match the rhythm exactly it would be way too challenging and frustrating to play, so it gives you a little bit more leeway and as a result sounds a bit off at times.

ludum factorum by AMastryukov 2020-10-06T15:25:50Z

@flauschzelle technically speaking, there really isn't a way to "finish" any of the minigames, you just keep doing them indefinitely to rack up points in the respective category (audio, fun and graphics)

ludum factorum by AMastryukov 2020-10-07T11:32:29Z

@dxk2294 the game truly is challenging and hectic to best convey the feeling of participating in a Ludum Dare compo.

@tipyx I was not even aware that there were other keyboard variations besides QWERTY. We will remember this when making our next game.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Void by AMastryukov 2021-05-02T16:31:35Z

@msipp27 you may want to consider maximizing the game. Also the appearance of 1s and Is is purposeful. Since one is a letter and the other is a number, it should not take long to figure out. It's intended to confuse, but it does not require trial and error, just some careful attention.

LD49 — Unstable

Ark by ProdigalSon 2021-10-10T02:31:57Z

The puzzles reminded me of those fake mobile game ads, except this is the actual game that they try to bait you with. The puzzles are well thought out, and the graphics look good. Doesn't seem to fit the theme very well, but the game is solid and fun. Good work!

Pillars of Stability by AMastryukov 2021-10-16T02:03:20Z

@witchhat I remember playing the LDJam version of Dorfromantik, and I had it in mind when designing this game. I enjoyed the act of placing tiles and I think that @zuhairghias did a fantastic job at polishing this mechanic in our game with the particles and effects.

Kingdom of Chaos by AXLplosion 2021-10-05T21:51:36Z

Neat little experience. I enjoy minigames (as you might have guessed from our last jam), and this one was short and very fast paced, which kept my attention. Most importantly, it was finished and wrapped up in a nice little package. Aside from lack of minigames and some polish like a lack of SFX (which I guess is due to the time constraint), the overall experience was good. Great work!

Space Jalopy by SageMade 2021-10-13T22:58:00Z

Great game overall. The music was good, it made me enjoy playing it more. The mechanics weren't clear without having to read a ton of text, which is a bit unpleasant but I got the hang of it and had some fun. Reminded me a bit of FTL but real-time. I did not enjoy the background at all, almost gave me a migraine. Why make it purple? With all of the rotations going on, its dizzying and unpleasant to look at. Looking past that, the other elements were good.

Unstable Core by Frankey333 2021-10-11T22:53:06Z

Overall, a great compo entry. A suggestion for the future: consider introducing each new mechanic one by one, instead of dumping the entirety of the information at the very start. The art was a bit generic, feels rushed but overall it was okay. The music and sound effects were fine but nothing special. In the end, this was a great submission, especially for your first one!

Balance of Power by Genteel 2021-10-13T23:22:33Z

The concept is interesting and worth exploring. I'd say the biggest downsides of this game are the glitchy Unity movement mechanics (you can try to fix it by raycasting in the direction of movement to check if there is a wall there and prevent movement if there is), the lack of on-screen UI feedback (the controls, what the current flow of direction is, etc), and a lack of music/SFX, in that order. Aside from that, this is a solid compo entry. Good work!

Theory Of Chaos by Caerind 2021-10-13T23:30:00Z

Fun game, and I really enjoyed the funny lines. The camera movement is a bit jarring and gets annoying after a while, but the gameplay is simple and entertaining. Good work!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Putyn Invaders by Pio 2022-04-07T20:08:10Z

Short and to the point. In terms of design, I think it would be better if you had either allowed the player to aim using the mouse or force enemies to shoot straight down like the player. Moving with WASD and using the mouse to shoot was a bit frustrating.

I did like the effects!

Apartheid by Jungle 2022-04-13T12:12:04Z

Gritty entry. I had thought you could have done more but when I saw it was a compo, I was impressed with the quality. I think you are still allowed to fix fullscreen issues post-jam, so I would suggest that. Otherwise, the graphics are top notch, the music is fitting and the message and mood are solid.

Ludum Distractio by PhilStrahl 2022-04-09T15:04:07Z

Great game overall, I'm a fan of minigames with a variety of things to do, and this one fits the definition. In fact, it heavily reminds me of the game our team made a few jams ago called Ludum Factorum.

I would have loved to see the usage of the keyboard in some way, perhaps as a typing minigame where you had to type out actions you wanted to perform, to increase the variety of engagement from the player. Another thing I found was that the code scrollbar bugged out occasionally, and didn't take scrollwheel input, which was a minor source of frustration for me. Other than that, it was great!

Shades of Deception by AMastryukov 2022-04-08T17:49:53Z

@john-livingston thank you! It was a hectic experience and only possible because everyone on our team worked incredibly hard to make it happen. This was the first time we had a team of this size, and it taught us a lot about the pipelines and strategies to optimize our workflows. We will explore the potential to expand the experience into a fully-fledged title in the future.

Shades of Deception by AMastryukov 2022-04-10T22:47:37Z

@notexplosive you're right on the audio mixing, it still needs some work. I did some of the sound mixing post jam because the volumes were off but there are still adjustments to make due to the fact that the player character and phone voicelines happen in 2D space centered on the player and the external voicelines for suspects occur in 3D space and are centered on them.

Shades of Deception by AMastryukov 2022-04-13T23:46:20Z

@cyzaine Thank you for the comprehensive feedback! We have slowly grown out team over time, but at our previous peak we had 6 members. It was definitely a challenge to manage, and we've conducted postmortems to improve our workflow for next time around.

We might consider pursuing it as a full title (with the obvious narrative change to avoid it being predictable and stale) at some point in the future.

@cyzaine @okamit I agree that in terms of gameplay it was a bit simplistic. I would have loved to add connections to evidence, additional types of evidence (fingerprints, digital) but alas, the limitations of our workflow kept us from achieving such great mechanics. We have made plans to address our shortcomings in this regard, and hopefully our future entries will be more comprehensive. For this time, we chose to approach the game as a narrative-based experience instead of giving players an actual challenge (which would be difficult to balance).

@picapica @the-fazzo first level has a notorious piece of evidence that about ~40% of players miss, and ~60% of players find immediately, and that is the glasses beside the body. In total, there are 9 pieces of evidence in the first level: two right at the start, two beside the trash can in front to the left, one in the corner behind the two dumpsters, one in the small alleyway, and three beside the body. The car is interactable, but it is not a piece of evidence, as you must first collect all small items first before the car becomes available. I suggest you give it another try, as you are missing about 70% of the game!

@the-enigma Thank you for playing! There are some issues with WebGL builds that occur on some browsers and setups that don't occur on others. It sucks big time but I'm not sure what can be done on our end to resolve them. In terms of which evidence is relevant during interrogations, the Suspects tab in your Notebook (TAB) can provide some details to help you navigate (e.g. Luca Verdere has a "sweet tooth", and you find a box of half-eaten donuts at the garage, etc)

@eptwalabha Unfortunately, there is no second ending. The last room does not require you to collect any evidence, just the one piece of evidence that Benny tells you about (looking behind the painting).

Shades of Deception by AMastryukov 2022-04-21T17:49:26Z

@angiemon Thank you for your extremely detailed feedback! I can answer some of the questions and maybe provide some context to the issues you've encountered.

The voice work was done by 3 people - the male main character was voiced by @makhan, my female was voiced by my wife, and I voiced the rest of the characters.

Our artists really did a fantastic job creating and perfecting the atmosphere and our team is very proud to have them make something so good in such a short time span (not to mention the amount of assets that they managed to create under pressure).

In terms of bugs:

1. This might have something to do with it being a WebGL build that hijacks the cursor, or it could be a browser issue. If you ever pressed Escape to exit fullscreen, or if you were using a browser such as Vivaldi, Opera or other niche browsers, that might also cause this issue.

2. The tabs being not selectable anymore is something I've never encountered either. It could be caused by exiting and entering full screen or the browser issue as mentioned above, but I am not certain about this. If you mean that you are stuck at Benny's interrogation in the alleyway, have you tried clicking E on him before you select the evidence? That might be the issue.

3. Evidence does not appear at any point, what's there is there from the start. I am willing to bet that you missed the glasses the first time around. I'd say you fall into the 60% of players who missed them (the other 40% find them immediately). I think this was an oversight on my end when placing evidence in the scene as they are similar in color to the shadows and the shadow resolution on WebGL builds is poor which makes them blend in with the rest of the objects. The car is also an oversight as it's technically an "interactable" object but is just disabled until all of the evidence is found. There is a goal at the top left corner displaying what needs to be done next but it isn't exactly noticeable and the game just kind of drops you into the crime scene without too much explanation.

Stopping Karen by Fis 2022-04-15T14:42:22Z

Interesting concept that has potential to be a full mobile puzzle game. Requires a bit of thinking at first, since I wasn't sure how it worked. The tutorial gave me the impression that I was supposed to put physical buildings in the way much like the barrier and didn't get that it was essentially forcing Karen to return to the location the pin was representing instead.

Someone above had already found the game-breaking bug but if you place the barrier in a location that would prevent Karen from finding an alternate route, the game would freeze up and require a hard reset.

The art was great, the audio was good and other than the one bug the game was playable and solid. Good work!

Taxed to Death by jasontherand 2022-04-12T12:00:06Z

Depressing as shit. The music is definitely a highlight as said above. That being said, I liked it. It's funny and it fits the theme.

Across Death Street by Jonathan Lorenz 2022-04-15T14:32:15Z

Interesting game, reminded me a bit of Project Zomboid but in proper 3D. It's a bit lackluster in terms of content and challenge since I was able to easily stay back from zombies and shoot at them without aggravating them in any way, which resulted in the game just being about collecting survivors and shooting zombies from a distance. I liked how you used Synty Studios assets, I actually used this exact pack for a project last year.

It would be interesting to see this expanded with team management element where you could control the survivors to fix the machine or improve it in some way as time goes on, becoming a more powerful version (e.g. clicking the survivors to collect scrap, add weapons, etc), going from a small robot with a single gun into a tank-like super zombie-killing machine.

Beyond The Veil by Hare Software 2022-04-07T17:59:02Z

Fantastic, I loved it!

Music, voices and sound effects were on point. There is a bug where music doesn't play for a bit after you die and come back to fight.

It would be nice to have the cards colored differently according to the character. For example, black and red for the player, white and gold for the priest and red and gold for the queen, etc. I don't think it would be a major change but I think it would improve the readability of the game flow and cards a bit.

Not sure if this is a bug, but the attack that has 50% chance to deal 40 damage still removes shield when it misses. It felt a bit off when it happened, but in the end I think it works better the way it is now.

Health and stamina are displayed as bars, but the cards show dots. This was a bit inconsistent and until the end hard to read how much I really had without moving cards around. I think replacing the bars with red hearts & blue squares would work better.

The only thing I disliked about it are the cards that miss 50% of the time. It felt really annoying. I think it would be best to avoid anything that deals no damage unless it's really rare. The ending was a bit abrupt as well, straight to the credits with no transition. Other than that, I loved everything about it!

Your Regime by deniskazantsev 2022-04-15T18:42:06Z

Very interesting take on the Reigns-like gameplay, and I like the authoritarian regime-style as well. It reminds me of my game I made for Ludum Dare 43 a while back, which admittedly wasn't as extensive in content. The downside of more gameplay content is that it's difficult to teach players how to navigate the game without a hand-holding tutorial which is both time consuming and at times annoying.

I tried to play it a few times but only managed to get a few of the endings. I wish there was some background music, although the sound effects were fitting and the general execution was done well with an impressive amount of content for a compo. Good job!

Desktop by eyedromeda 2022-04-15T14:50:45Z

Unique and interesting compo entry! I like minigame-based games, but this one has a neat little storyline that is somewhat relatable. I personally hate running and prefer other forms of cardio that aren't so taxing on my joints, so it really did feel annoying to get the messages from Alex about it. However, that was not a bad thing; in fact it was well-crafted because it made me *feel* something. And ultimately, shutting down the PC felt almost exactly like when I shut down my PC for the night.

Slime Showdown by ToC 2022-04-12T11:37:01Z

A good, complete game that wasn't too difficult. I liked it! A good amount of upgrades (I didn't even get them all by the end, the more the better in my opinion) and enemy variety. The graphics were well done and consistent. It was an interesting choice to include the boss right off the bat - it felt a bit weird at first, but I got used to it and it wasn't a bad choice in the end. The gameplay is a bit generic in the sense that I've played very similar games in the past but the setting of witchcraft and wizardry mixed it up a bit.

I got close to dying at multiple points but managed to beat it on the first try nonetheless, so kudos for making it the perfect difficulty for me!

1 Man 6 Bullets by Raphaeltan 2022-04-13T13:13:01Z

This game was awesome! Reminds me of SUPERHOT.

I felt like you guys went a bit too strong on the postprocessing (by about 10-15%) but it was definitely a good decision to dim the sides a bit with vignette when the time is slowed. I found that sometimes there was a disconnect between the bullet path shown before firing and the actual path the bullet took, and the fact that sometimes it bounced off the enemies but most times did not.

Other than that, the music, graphics and gameplay were all very well done and polished! I also liked the comic style as well.

(this is not) Dating Advice by nyxkn 2022-04-15T14:58:55Z

Great entry, reminds me of one I made quite a few jams ago called "Internal Affairs", also drawing some inspiration from Reigns. In games like this, it's always nice to have more variety of flavor text and options. Aside from that, it was pretty good overall, especially for a compo entry!

Super Mowser Bros by Guilloteam 2022-04-12T13:10:06Z

I liked how you flipped the script on Mario. This would have also fit the "You are the bad guy" theme which gets suggested a hundred times every single jam. Overall, the game is very solid and has a lot of potential, even as a commercial game (obviously, you might want to change the character names to delay the inevitable, brutal beatdowns by Nintendo lawyers in a courthouse alleyway).

In terms of graphics, it is top-notch. Professional artstyle, nice animations and overall great (aside from the default-looking progress bars). In terms of music and sound it was also solid as well, although the music does get a bit annoying after a while since it's so upbeat and repeats on a loop with no variation. The gameplay is a ton of fun as well.

My only issue with it is, as mentioned by many others, the UX is confusing right off the bat and I had no idea what I was doing for the first 5 minutes. I realized far too late the first time around that I had to literally drag the tokens into the slots to build stuff. The management idea is actually really cool, but the UX is so confusing that I had a hard time playing even after I figured out how to.

Despite that, it was a really fantastic, solid and playable entry that even has commercial potential (which is fairly rare to see). Great work!

Somnipathy by Cyzaine 2022-04-13T12:40:47Z

A trippy game, I managed to reach 14th position on the leaderboards. I tried playing it twice because I didn't get the point the first time around, felt a bit too abstract for me. Decided to give it another try and it felt like a fever dream disguised as a game the second time around, which is very good if that's what you were trying to go for. In terms of the setup and gameplay and narrative, it was very good.

I wasn't too fond of the graphics and the music, personally. Not that it didn't fit the style of the game, but that many things felt/looked out of place, and not a good way that I was expecting from a sleep-deprived hallucinatory state. Instead, much of the art felt like it was collected from different sources that didn't fit together: quality pixel art for the locations, stretched low-resolution PNGs for some of the items/characters, quickly slapped-together pixelated interface. While I tried to understand that it's supposed to convey the "I've stayed up for 3 days straight and I'm hallucinating", it didn't make me *feel* like that's what it was trying to do, especially when the promotional art, the main character and the monster is really high quality and consistent with one another. In terms of the audio specifically, the soundtrack felt a bit "flat", like more of an afterthought than a conscious decision.

That being said, for a jam this was great! I think that this was a very unique experience that would be unforgettable if it can be executed perfectly given lots of time and resources. I think this idea has commercial potential, and can be made into a horror experience like no other.

Somnipathy by Cyzaine 2022-04-13T13:16:27Z

@cyzaine that would explain a lot of the inconsistency, and I understand the struggle as I've faced a nearly identical situation before and as a result my end product has suffered (in my eyes). Kudos to you and your team for managing to put it all together and make it work despite the obstacles. Best of luck in your future projects, and I hope to see your team at the next jam!

The Assessment by Okamit 2022-04-13T12:18:09Z

Well made! I'm a sucker for minigame-based entries, and this one is high quality. The soundtrack was on point, it felt like a movie. Theme was on point as well. All around, the experience was really well-rounded and fit the theme more than most entries I've tried.

Foundations by 0x746564 2022-04-12T11:24:34Z

Fairly straightforward, although I am not a massive fan of card games. I used to play solitaire back in the day but it was never something I enjoyed for the gameplay, just to pass the time. It was a bit frustrating having to click every time to move cards around, especially after a few tries. Being able to drag cards would have made it more smooth of a UX, in my opinion. Overall, good work!

ENDURACE - Drift Or Die by Phillip Scott 2022-04-13T13:42:55Z

Well done for a jam game! Actual drifting mechanic, two maps, and it's a derby game with destruction. It's a complete game, just in a smaller package. I had to turn off sound effects to hear the music, because I saw a setting there but couldn't actually hear any music among the effects but there was a soundtrack! It wasn't the most fitting in my opinion but something is better than nothing. The sound effects really made the audio category work.

I wouldn't say it was innovative in any major way compared to other derby racing games but it was feature-complete without any noticeable bugs and done in under 72 hours, which is an impressive feat in and of itself.

Pillage Quest by phats604 2022-04-15T15:08:08Z

Decent entry but I think there were some questionable decisions made in the design. It was nice to include two different characters to play as but I think focusing on polishing the experience for a single one would have made the game better. In terms of difficulty, the game seemed to get too challenging too quickly. In the first 10 seconds I already had a situation where two enemies on opposite sides of the map arrived at the same time, and even though it fit the theme for some of them to get through since losing is inevitable, it ended up being a bit frustrating when it happened so quickly. As some others said, the enemies could have had health bars or numbers representing hits to kill remaining. That would have allowed easier prioritization of each. It would have also been interesting to have the ball roll back when hit, since it just required spamming it to kill.

In terms of art, I was unsure about the heavy chromatic aberration. I think having so much of it detracted from the art you had made instead of complementing and enhancing it.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Bear's Home Repairs by AMastryukov 2022-10-04T13:41:29Z

@100th-coin Thanks for the video, very helpful! We will do our best to fix the bugs and smooth out the gameplay a little bit, as well as add a sensitivity slider.

Bear's Home Repairs by AMastryukov 2022-10-06T02:47:51Z

@ahmedre thank you, I agree!

LD52 — Harvest

Mun Fields by MadreDeDios 2023-01-26T23:27:42Z

The split-screen harvesting mechanic with different day-night cycles was an interesting mechanic, although I'm not sure it was conveyed or executed too well - mainly, it didn't *feel* like it played an important role because everything moved so quickly and I did not have enough time to "take it in" or learn about the cycles. The music felt a little bit like a fever dream, not sure if it was a good choice or chord progression for this title, it made the game feel more confusing than anything. Overall, the entry was pretty good and it was enjoyable.

Harvest 31 by AMastryukov 2023-01-13T12:52:14Z

@shp could you provide more details as to your web browser? I've had a few complaints in the past about this sort of bug on other WebGL FPS games but was not able to address it without more details.

@machino you are able to play the entire game from start to finish. The game was unfinished at the time of the jam completion but has been completed since. The notice is to let you know to adjust your rating based on this information. The game is pretty brutal, so you have to really use all of the information you acquire to your best ability.

Harvest 31 by AMastryukov 2023-01-13T22:39:15Z

@machino the notice wasn't very clear, I adjusted it a bit to clarify that the game is done now. Thank you for playing (and beating it)! We are thinking of improving the ending a little bit to fade to black or something.

@shp thank you for the specs. I looked online and it seems like a browser-specific (Firefox) issue with seemingly no solution. It's caused by the mouse cursor locking in Unity when the mouse is off-center. It will continue to drift in the direction where it was originally locked.

Harvest 31 by AMastryukov 2023-01-27T13:38:18Z

@bloodfin thanks for playing! I'm always happy to see people get to the end - it's quite a challenge to get past without dying over and over again. We wanted to achieve a "hardcore space survival" feel with this game, which definitely isn't for everyone. We tried to keep people playing by using the story and the atmosphere as the hook.

I know exactly why the bug with the door is happening but I probably won't be fixing it since it doesn't break the game. The door gets force-opened but the trigger collider that registers inputs from the player remains in the same place, hence showing you the prompt.

DropLet by Suchista 2023-01-27T11:58:56Z

Great game, actually got me to try and beat it. The graphics were definitely the strongest thing about the game, on par with the top 50 jam games. It's a shame you didn't have time to make a soundtrack, otherwise it would have felt more complete. I would suggest you add royalty free music next time - even if you didn't make it, you can opt out of the audio category but still vastly improve the feel of the game.

The controls were probably the weakest aspect for me - I wasn't a huge fan of the control scheme in general but the movement was far too responsive for a game that required me to move through a small hole at times. Some wall boundaries were also not very clear at first, which made me miss where I can and can't go.

CowMower 2000 by AXLplosion 2023-01-27T00:26:27Z

Great graphics, as usual. The gameplay is simple and, most importantly, it works. The next step would be to add blood effects, sound effects and some sort of basic avoidance AI to give the cows some life. Great work!

Corn Cannon by BangKerpow 2023-01-26T23:34:04Z

I got 292 as my highest score.

Overall, a great entry - fun, engaging and pretty unique for the theme. The controls were probably the weakest point. I wasn't fond of having to use S and W to orientate the cannon. I think mouse controls would have worked nicely here. Other than that it was pretty fun to play!

Branch Out by svemir 2023-01-26T23:20:40Z

Incredibly innovative. I wish I was able to use the mouse to select which branch I want to control, having to cycle through them is a bit annoying at times. Other than that, really awesome!

Pflaenze by shiny Elster 2023-01-27T12:08:23Z

Pretty relaxing and atmospheric although as the comment above pointed out - quite slow. I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing at first because there was little feedback aside from avoiding rocks, and the second phase where the roots grow out further was not very clear in terms of controls. I think the game would benefit from slightly faster root growth or quicker text scrolls because it felt very tedious whenever I stumbled upon something and the text showed up. Other than those quirks, the game definitely conveyed a relaxing mood!

Night Time Harvest by digivorix 2023-01-27T11:50:51Z

The gameplay loop is straightforward and simple, the instructions are fairly clear. The balancing could use a bit more work as I continued planting and harvesting for 5 nights in a row without seeing any zombies. The amount of seeds harvested every night was the same, making the game feel repetitive and without an ultimate goal.

Damn Rats - LD52 by mr_lazy 2023-01-27T12:14:36Z

Simple, unique and fun - great entry!

I feel like the balance needs a bit of work because I quickly became overwhelmed by the amount of rats coming in all of a sudden. The ramp-up in difficulty was gradual but still a bit too quick for me, I didn't get the feeling of victory or success after beating a level, it just kept ramping up.

4 Harvest Bags by kenneth-dd 2023-01-26T23:42:54Z

The unique gameplay mechanic was very fun (and stressful at times)! I think the game would benefit from slowly ramping up the difficulty and introducing new baskets in multiple levels.

Harvy Tile by Miolosh 2023-01-27T12:20:24Z

Great puzzle design and execution! Always a fan of hexagonal tile games.

I can see why people thought that combined tiles becoming locked is unpleasant but I think it was a great design choice for a puzzle game like this. Well done!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Slide or Die by Zeriver 2018-05-14T12:54:29Z

Very interesting combination and concept. The gameplay was simple enough to catch on quickly, and the controls were straightforward for a unique mechanic. The music fit in well and the overall atmosphere was consistent and intriguing. I've had a couple of bugs with the weapon when it would shoot in an entirely different direction, way above where I was aiming, making it difficult to hit enemies and frustrating overall. I also felt that the bullets were too slow, especially since I had to constantly use TAB to increase my speed, which made it difficult to hit enemies and stay alive.
