Fun game. Was surprised that the root going into the water kills you — found that confusing when the goal is to fetch water. Cool concept!
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD52 → Branch Out

Cool idea overall! I would just suggest speeding up the beginning of the game a little. The slow pace is fine at later stages of the game where you have to pay attention more
@reivilibre Thanks, but that was actually a bug due to how I exported the web build!! If you try it again, it should work as intended!
@wolkp Thanks :) yeah, I really struggled trying to find the right pace and balance in difficulty
great game! the concept was creative, I liked the simple graphics and blending of colors, it's a relaxing game with good replay value, overall I enjoyed playing! keep it up!
Interesting game. The music unfortunately tapered off after a while and there was just silence other than the sound effects. A score or some reason to find water could be interesting (changing seasons, have to find water to survive the summer, you are slower in the winter because, well, _winter_...).
All in all, I'd say good base with nice improvement potential Cool!
I liked the idea and thought it was a good base for future development. The camera doesn't seem to follow the root if you sway aside for too long though. Great job!
what an interesting idea :) definitely not easy to keep track on the branches, but then again you could just take care of 1-2 of them and let the rest do their thing. Maybe make the roots selectable via mouse would have been a viable option. Cool entry :)
Interesting concept, great job!
Hi fun concept ! Graphics are simple but kinda cool ! I would love to have a way to speed up the evolution of roots, the game feels a bit slow when you understood the controls
Interesting and exciting gameplay mechanics, I really liked the simplicity of the game and the relaxing atmosphere!
This idea is one of the more innovative ones in this jam. I do wonder how do you draw those branches, are they just bunch of sprites or do you use some pixel manipulation?
Could do bit more flexible control scheme. When there are many branches it gets bit frustrating to scroll through all of em. Mouse choosing maybe? Then it could be balanced to faster and more chaotic fun with more (and nastier) enemies
A cute and chill game. The concept can really become a solid game !
@theherborist Yeah, I have no idea why the music does that haha - it just happened in the web build! The green bar is supposed to be your score/length of roots, but it's not very clear
@s-onoe Thanks a lot :) yeah, I had trouble figuring out how to keep everything on screen and fix that bug...so I made it feature :P you need to keep the roots going downward haha!!
@substain Mouse selection would be a cool idea too explore, it definitely gets tough to cycle through all the roots at the end
@danyclockworker Thanks :)
@kastaff Good to hear, I wasn't sure what the difficulty was going to be like so erred on making it easier
@emil-akper Thanks heaps :)
@jormarysky Thanks!! They're dynamic, updated every second at a new point and connected. Basically just one big wobbly line! Yep, seems like using the mouse could open up the game a lot :)
@efilheim Thank you!
Woah, really interesting!
Very cool idea! I love the ability to see the roots growing in real time and change the angle just slightly so they end up in the perfect spot. The different reactions to water and leaves is really cool, too. Made me think of old school Missile Command a bit, except you get to be both the barrage and the defense! :)
This game made me feel like I was a child again playing games on addicting games. Very good entry to the the jam :-)
Really cool concept trying to manage so many things at once. The better you do, the more there is to manage. I did find the left and right being from the perspective of the roots direction a little weird (so if I press left, since the root is growing down, it moves right on the screen), especially since you can't redirect the roots upward.
I am bad at this game. For 70% of it I was a slender tendril of desperation clinging to life with one or two pixels at the top of the screen. I thought I'd figured out early that I could just use outer branches to protect the inner branches from moles without having to fire off my energy blast, but that was soooo wrong.
1. This gameplay is unique! It's kind of like an inverted missile defense, but, somehow, much more challenging! 2. Being able to control multiple roots by switching through them was a super interesting mechanic 3. There was a very clear game loop
1. Moles could kill me if they were above the screen (maybe I needed to zoom out a bit?) 2. I didn't really get the hang of the fact that the 'leaf' icon was just as important as the water pools until the very end, but it makes sense!
This game was very intense for me, and I enjoyed it!
This is a very cute and relaxing game. I wish there were a few more mechanics to increase the difficulty or variety. I avoided the rocks in the dirt thinking they were obstacles for the longest time. Untitled.png
i loved your proposition! it's mesmerizing to watch roots grow. the mechanic is simple at first but when you have a large amount of branches, it's becoming way more difficult, and it was a good difficulty curve, great job!
Pretty innovative little game.Hopping between the roots to prevent a mole from pruning a whole lot at once was hectic sometimes! Kinda wish there was a progress indicator like depth on the side or something.
This was a very cool game, i wish the music kept looping, it cut out after playing once i think. The idea here is very interesting :) managing a bunch of roots was pretty intense, but i liked it!
I really loved the idea! Nice job! :)
Wow! Very unique idea. I've never seen a game like it before. What a great concept!
Incredibly innovative. I wish I was able to use the mouse to select which branch I want to control, having to cycle through them is a bit annoying at times. Other than that, really awesome!
very innovative game with fun gameplay, just wish there was a better way to cycle between roots. Nice work!
