Is there a link to a compiled version?
@devorc Hey, the link got deleted for a reason ... I put it again, it should be ok now.
Thanks @Gurvan! Time to play!
Hey there, congrats on releasing! So I really want to play this, but I am having a really hard time with the controls. It seems like WASD is used to rotate you, but it rotates entirely too fast. I'm not sure if you designed this while playing with an XBOX controller in Unity or not. I use Unity as well and I know that if you're using horizontal axis for rotation, left/right will return a full 1 for GetAxis while a controller will be more precise. The game looks nice though!
Really not bad at all. I like the graphics a lot and the gameplay is cool. I'll just list a few things I've noticed in a random order: - There are a lot of seems in the sprites. Did you turn off Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Textures in the Quality settings? - The ship is turning waaaay to quickly. I suspect this has something to do with the framerate, as I don't think you meant it to be that fast. Maybe you forgot to multiply the rotation by Time.deltaTime or something. - The fonts are pretty bad to be honest. There's also a few grammatical errors in your texts, but it's really not that bad. - The gameplay itself is really cool. Not sure if this fits the theme very well, but the idea is good and it was fun for a few minutes.
Great job overall!
@morphine Hey, i play on a keyboard, and i don't think it's too fast, but maybe it is because i got used to it... Thanks for your feedback , i will fix it in my post jam build !
Congrats on releasing - got some nice solid mechanics here. Controls take a bit of getting used to and could take a bit of polish, but the core is solid and that's the point of a jam. Nice one.
@zelos Thanks for your feedback ! I fixed everything in the next build post-compo.
@vehem Thanks a lot ! I wanted to make the boat a little hard to control, but it seems at the rotation speed of the boat is a major issue. As said in other comment, i will fix it in a post-compo build :)
Really enjoyed this, quite an ambitious project for 48 hours! Has potential to become a larger project, for sure.
The game play idea was not bad, and I really like how you used influence as a definition of 'power' for the theme.
My first impression, however, was that the ship turns way too quickly and ends up spinning in circles. I was able to swim onto the land and get outside of the map bounds, which caused the ship to spin even more when turning. The island bounds were a little bit too large and blocky, and the 'cannonplay' was difficult and didn't seem necessary, so after trying for a bit I just ignored the other ships. The sailing sound effect sounded like running your hand in a bathtub, which I thought was funny.
The graphics fit together well and were acceptable overall.
The bug made me fell like Victarion Greyjoy sailing through the Dothraki Sea ;)
Nice game, the ship definitely turns too fast, but I liked the idea and overall execution.
Hey @amastryukow, how did you got out of the map ? Thanks for the feedback !
@jesus-gonzalez Thanks for the feedback ! As said in my previous comments, i will fix that in a future build. What bug are you talking about?
@gurvan The sailing through land being possible.
Nice game ! Except for the problems already stated, I loved the upgrade system and the gameplay mechanics. The graphics are simple but do the job, and the sea sound is quite funny. Good job !
Strong game overall, some of the graphics were a bit off and the boat turns way to fast, but overall a nice game. Fun and good to play casually, great job and best of luck!
Pretty decent game, although there were a few things. - I didn't know how to attack with the mouse, may have been a bug - There's literally no collision, I was able to get out of bounds by literally just sailing out of bounds - The game over screen is exceptionally laggy for no apparent reason, maybe a memory leak?
Other than that, it's a cool idea! Not bad for your first Ludum Dare.
I had fun. This is a great first attempt.
People experience games through their mechanics, most of all controls. Try and make sure your controls are TIGHT.
@vegacide You can't attack with the mouse, you must use the left or the right arrow, the collision are fixed in the "fixed builds" and i don't know why the game over screen is laggy, i will try to fix it in a next build
Neat little game. Combat system is interesting and realistic. One thing is that when shooting right, one of my left cannons also fired. Good score on fun because it was fun to play.
I played the fixed version, with the ship turning at a nice steady pace. I liked your game, especially for a first game it's fun and that should be more than enough. A couple of opinions though:
- I kept crashing into islands and losing hp, which felt dissapointing. It'll probably be a conscious decision on your part, but that's something I didn't enjoy, since I saw islands as safe haven and approching them unharmed was difficult.
- I'd add labels to the hp and trust bars, just so that new players who haven't read the description (I know they should, but people do) know what they are about.
Now, I liked it, great job!
@jeremy_ryan thanks for poiting this out, i am fixing it !
@sophisticat-games I wanted the player to stop near island to slow the game for a bit, so that the player can loot the island while being shot only with a little bit of skill to add a tiny learning curve. I will think about the label for the post-jam build, right now i am only focusing on fixing bug (Because fixing bug is allowed for rating, post-jam don't count for rating)
Very fun to play and a lot of features to say it was made in a short amount of time. Really great job!
Really good game for a compo. Could use more juice like explosions and screenshakes.
@whiteninja Thanks, would think about that for a post-compo build.
I like the idea and the controls feel nice. Nice Job for your first game.
Really hard game but well executed. Feels like you achieved your compo goals which is a very good thing!
Thank you for making this!
Fun game and nice looking programmer art. The game difficulty varied a lot, at one point I got attacked by 5 enemy ships at the same time and that was a bit hard. Could need smaller hitboxed between the island and the boat, the island hurt my ship a lot...
If you add new features remember to keep the links to the version you submitted for the combo. "If you start changing too many things, consider making a Post Event version of the game instead. We still need your Compo/Jam version here (for playing and rating), but for the rest of the world you can show your best." https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/false-game/compojam-done-play-and-rate-games
@stoffe Yep , i will make 3 versions:
- The original , with bugs as it came out
- The fixed, wich is the original with fixed bugs
- The post-jam wich is the fixed with new features, items,...
I had quite a bit of fun playing this game, spent about half an hour getting through the first five seas before I was done. I don't think I've seen a game before where you shoot out of the side as opposed to the front, it made for unique and interesting gameplay. It was also very fun to explore the seas. Procedural generation really made the game better here; although the elements of the seas were simple, not knowing how they would fit together made it exciting.
I didn't like the Crew Respect (or whatever it's called, I forget) mechanic. It felt tacked on and unnecessary (yeah, yeah, you need it for the theme. I still don't like it.) Every time I got into a firefight, the Respect meter would shoot down to zero after only a few shots, and I feel like combat would be a lot more fun if I could last longer in it. Speaking of which, health doesn't matter in this game; during combat, respect drains WAY faster than health does, so you can never die from lack of health (at least in my experience. I may be playing the game wrong). The fact that respect drains constantly means that I can't happily explore the seas at my own pace (my pace is slow) because I'm constantly worrying about doing something to keep my respect up. In short, I feel the game would be vastly improved by removing the respect mechanic.
It was very unclear what most of the upgrades did. Short descriptions for each of them would let me make much better purchasing decisions.
> I am french
You english is very good for learning it as a second language. Je souhaite je parle francais bon a toi parle anglais!
> i am 14 years old
Good on you for making games now. I just turned 17 and only started a month ago, and I strongly regret not doing it earlier.
> this is my first jam and my first finished game ever
wow- although this game is good when judged impartially, it is phenomenal for a first finished game, and one made in 48 hours no less! Good work :)
A very nice game for a first entry, congratulations. There's an actual gameplay, you can lose, and graphics are very decent. Did you actually record the water sound yourself? If so, very cool! Hope you had some fun at this LD, definitely come back next time!

@a333 I literally went in my bathroom, put water in the bath and put my hand in it . the music is made from a drum , the boat sound is the sound from my closet, and the money sound is just me throwing money on a table
Really nice game to play, fun idea, graphics could be better, but are not bad. Good job!
Nice game!
The mechanics are simple, and work quite well. I found it a bit difficult to aim the cannons, since the direction is relative to the direction you are facing.
Exploring the seas was interesting, and the upgrade system was a nice touch. Perhaps the in-game text could have explained the effect of the different upgrades?
It was an impressive first game, especially for a compo game! Nice work!
>Sail on the high seas! >Battling, and finding treasure! >The **X** marks the spot!
Very impressive for a first game and in 48 hours! Graphics are nice, the sound is good and the mechanics too. For improvement it would be really good to see how each upgrade affects the ship. And I had a problem with the collision with the islands. Good job!
Nice game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DrJOSU_FjM
