LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

You Gotta Land Now by jalict 2017-12-05T19:21:03Z

I really liked the way the aircraft handled, and it was interesting that the landing was gradual and not instant (also that they wandered slightly sideways when you werent watching them, so you couldnt just point them all towards airfields and then quickly switch between to land them one by one.. as i was trying to.

If you had a bit more time, something as simple as a quick restart button would have been great for retrying :p

Shame you didn't have more time to spend on it, it's cool!

Stuck in Parallel by Omiya Games 2017-12-25T21:32:40Z

Interesting game conceptually, if as previously explored, a bit of a technical mess.

For me mostly in the subtleties pertaining to collision when moving around in the game, it was quite easy to put yourself in a situation where it looked like you should be able to move as a lantern rolled a bit and then suddenly you were stuck between a bit of wall which visually didn't look like it was there, but was still blocking you! @antti-haavikko 's post i think echoes well the technical issues and in what situations they occurred.

The controls in the game were also surprisingly slidey, you could easily retain the acceleration you want without making it super slippery, just by toning it down a lot (which made moving around feel rather difficult to predict).

Personally I think the 3D aspect of the lanterns was interesting, but I think you could have gained a lot by making sure when they rotate and move around, they snap to certain angles, ie if you start rotating it forwards, you'll have it move until the next 45-degree increment on that given axis it is currently rotating it (i mean, its just an idea).

So I absolutely don't agree you should scrap the 3D aspect, but making it feel more intentional (and easier to control) would be interesting and make it far less frustrating!

I hope to see what you do with this post-jam (if you do plan on doing more with it!)

Nice work :)

XenoNanny by icxon 2017-12-05T17:18:27Z

The art is marvelous, I must admit I was quite surprised when the start-screen came in and there was a tiny comic embedded..

Indeed like a previous person said, it often felt like it was difficult to prevent the death of the tiny blobs following you, but impressive!

Avoider by Linus 2017-12-25T23:00:26Z

Really interesting game, I've only seen one other LD game so far on this theme which has the whole "avoid your previous ghost" mechanic, so points for originality :)

I enjoyed the music... but by god the camera rotation was incredibly frustrating, it felt difficult to understand in a certain instance why the camera suddenly rotated all of 45 degrees, but I'm sure you're aware of this aspect of it already :)

I assume you have more plans for the graphical aspect of the game, what with the player being a capsule and the level being this dev-texture grid of sorts.. :D

Great work though, it was definitely fun!

The Worse It Is by xk_the_name 2017-12-27T20:10:54Z

I love the atmosphere in this one, totally pulled you in! I liked the fact that it looked like you were given some agency throughout, but none of it mattered in the end... :D, in a kind of melancholic like kind of way.

Nice work :)

BaconMan by josefnpat 2017-12-07T22:11:57Z

Punching people *while holding bacon* (was this also supposed to work?) and moving your hands in some kind of mystical 8-figure pattern to fry bacon and punch baddies?

It was actually quite easy to survive on even with only using one hand though, but then again using two hands was more fun anyways so I'm not really sure there was much of a loss there :D

Voice acting.. absolutely A+

Some Seriously Screwed Sheep by PixelFormedStudios 2017-12-26T02:11:52Z

Solid game, it would be interesting to see the sickness part of having sheep interact with the herd in some way, i.e if a sheep died from sickness, maybe having the blood look slightly different (and it make the sheep which walk on it sick slowly as well) would be interesting, because otherwise it only feels like some random death mechanic :)

I would agree in the balance aspect it often felt almost completely random, so actually reaching the goal didn't feel so much a product of your own effort so much as ... pure luck, but my criticism aside, I thought as a whole, this entry was magnificent and made me sad I didn't have any audio in my own entry :D

Great work!

Warehouse Panic by benjamin 2017-12-19T23:29:08Z

Interesting game, mostly straightforward gameplay too, but I agree with the previous point of posters using only the name vs phone using images for the boxes. The main gripe I had with the game was the sometimes perceived jankyness of picking up/dropping boxes, but that quickly became unstuck as you played more.

Really cute game, and as a whole it feels quite polished!

Nice work :D

GameJam Survival Simulator by VicoViper 2017-12-07T00:50:59Z

Haha, doing what I did in reality didn't seem to work out so well in game! Something like 60 % quality score in the end!

A nice small touch for the visuals regarding the meters would have been to match the animations timing with when the meters refill, so rather than instantly refilling the meters when you click on the action, refilling them when you actually are performing the action (having walked away, into the bathroom etc).

I would echo the problem that despite my 1920x1080 screen, if i didn't fullscreen the game by pressing F11 in my browser and then scrolling to the right height, some things were definitely off screen!

It is interesting though, nice for the amount of work put in and definitely innovative haha :D

SiniS is not in Space by BoltKey 2017-12-07T23:46:31Z

This is an interesting take on scaling difficulty, competing for a score on a certain level instead of.. getting more score the longer you survive or by some other metric, I quite enjoyed tuning my ship to my own play style so I could try to survive longer!

If theres one gripe I have with the game, its that the controls make it quite frustrating, when the ship approaches where you have your cursor it kind of bounces back/forth and oscillates around it, for me it would have been far nicer if it had slowed down to "meet" the cursor and then still be pointing that same way you had been going as the ship had approached the cursor :)

Very difficult! If not only to a great deal because you felt motivated to beat the other highscores listed :D

Good work!

A Platformer for Ants by Elendow 2017-12-26T01:41:06Z

This is a very good entry, I liked how in one of the segments of the level, just jumping straight through the dark without looking would mean inevitable death if you weren't careful :D, a clever (maybe intended) side-effect of the camera (when jumping up through the shaft, from block to block sideways).

I think what I enjoyed most was the sense of accomplishment you got from visually seeing the progression in the overview you got of the particular segment of the level you'd completed!

If theres anything to think about, its that sometimes it felt like you got more out of *not* going for a checkpoint, than actually going for one (as the overview you got was actually helpful)

Great work guys :)

Dudes Vs All Kinds of Stuff by gassasin 2017-12-06T22:52:48Z

Wow, remarkably polished for a LD entry, nice work!

My only gripe is the fact that somehow the key left of 1 and above TAB on my keyboard becomes player 2's jump due to the US key layout assumed (Swedish keyboard here!)

Samurai Shaver by DDRKirbyISQ 2017-12-26T02:47:46Z

Absolutely stunning, the music and art is quite remarkable and it's always fantastic to see rhythm games in LD (since they're so rare, at least to be done well!)

If theres anything I can complain about, its as others said that the very first slash is supposed to occur the very second the guide starts coming down for some shaves, but thats likely just a failing of my own bad sense of timing :)

Definitely one of my favourite games so far this LD round!

Great work! :D

EARTH BLOSSOM by Zarkonnen 2017-12-05T17:43:33Z

The sound effects combined with the movement of the great blobbo..

The theme fit is great since there's a definite advantage to keeping your size down, the creepy music is great for the mood!

Not much to criticize, I agree with @fiakaiera that the main thing I also thought about was that of zoom (also enemy indicators!)

Great work :)

Embol by azlen 2017-12-06T23:12:25Z

Man I was legitimately sad that there wasn't more to the game! Forming nonsense sentences or picking your words from the cloud of your mind has never been better visualized :D

As others have said though, it would definitely be interesting to have more ways to screw up, but solid work! (also, would have been nice to have had a linux build since you did make it in godot, but i ran it through wine and it worked so :D)

Hope you expand on it! :D

Student Loan Simulator 2017 Ramen Edition by smbe19 2017-12-05T19:10:58Z

I love this, I played it locally as well just fetching the löve file...

Depressing indeed, absolutely buried under both loans and bills at a certain point!

Great work though, surprisingly fun, definitely takes the mind off ones own student loans for a while.. ^^

Garbage Disposal Tycoon by kernel-panic 2017-12-25T23:54:50Z

I must admit, I was completely befuddled as to how to work this thing, but I did manage to dump garbage into the ocean successfully which is all I really want out of a garbage tycoon game!

Of the things I could actually critique would be, in the scroll-list of things, it was initially very unclear just how far it went (would be nice to have some clarity on if you could actually scroll further down or not, but I suppose as the whole thing is quite incomplete, you're already aware it all needs work)

I'd love to see you develop this further later on, interesting to see where it could go once its more complete!

Post Morton by nanolotl 2017-12-17T17:54:48Z

Charming graphics, the engine sound for the postmans van too made a great fit for the overall theme of the game!

I also appreciated that you didn't block the van from driving onto peoples lawns, to allow me live my fantasy of the postman gone postal, crossing through peoples hedges and across their frontporches to deliver their mail :D

I will however agree with the others who said that the early gameplay is quite punishing, while you later on start having more fun with it, the first steps can be quite frustrating.

A thing which would have been great would have been the ability to use the map at the post-office to also show the numbers of each individual house (because now it was more of a guessing game).

Great work nonetheless :D

Muldulamulom by mase 2017-12-17T17:39:07Z

Style-wise this absolutely stands out remarkably amongst every other LD40 entry I've seen so far, if theres any complaint its that while the style is unique, it's sometimes unclear "where the pointy ends are" and death can easily come somewhat suddenly, but just by playing you'll quickly learn.

As for what you said of basically ignoring the theme in an earlier comment, this is one of those cases where it is easily forgiven (especially now that the theme could easily be interpreted to be such a general game-design principle anyways..)

Nice work, and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future :)

DETERMINATION by megabrutal 2017-12-13T11:52:43Z

Simple, despite the controls initially being a tad confusing it was actually quite easy to get lost in the flow of it! Fun :D

Overweight by Jack D. Taylor 2017-12-19T23:03:19Z

I quite liked the game, even if its rudimentary form, makes me think of old flash games like helicopter! (in its unfinished form, i'm actually surprised there was even a finishing landing sequence)

Don't forget to go out and rate other games by the way if you want more people to play and rate yours!

Fun game :)

Famous Knight by Lucas Ferrantelli 2017-12-17T18:48:57Z

The polish involved here is remarkable, from the sound to the music (.. though I must admit, I did try slashing the fans on several occasions, almost a shame it wasn't possible! It was a great fit to the theme :D)

I was definitely shocked when the autograph stuff popped up in the midst of the game, but it was a nice addition to the camera-flashes and the fan theme!

Also, massive props to having the option for epileptics in the menu (.. signed someone who is one)

Overall, looking forward to more of your work, next level stuff you guys :)

Life & Debt: A Real Life Simulator by Krassenstein 2017-12-17T20:50:02Z

Good lord, how many variations of cabinets can one person accrue?... It turns out as a shopaholic, the boundaries are nearly nil! Must have all the cabinets money can buy!

The Twitch streamer pay take was a nice touch! Too relateable.. Great work overall! :)

Slightly annoying traffic by JOrbits 2017-12-25T22:29:21Z

Quite cohesive, as a minor criticism on the UI: it's a shame the score counter basically blends into the background though so it's quite difficult to see your score at all!

Other than that, it's a charming game which is so easy to pick up! (though it was ironic that initially, most of the "fun" came out of seeing the car crashes pile up after you'd actually.. lost)

Great work :)

Toy workshop 2 by stmatn 2017-12-06T22:42:21Z

Haha, when I opened that PDF file and I was greeted with a production tree.. you definitely had ambition for your entry :D

Interesting idea, it could have been made a lot more intuitive by some kind of on-hover "requirements" window when you hover over a resource you're trying to produce, but you don't have the prerequisites (within which you could either have the whole subtree visible or just have that one piece it needs, which when you hover over it might show what that part needs, if anything)

Actually the first christmas themed game I've come across, nice :)

Public Opinion Monitor by ayame9joe 2017-12-25T23:19:31Z

I haven't the slightest whats going on, but I like the way it looks and sounds..

I do feel this is topical, even if utterly confusing in its current form, what does it do to "confirm delete" of a news post, or a rumor, or something that is already marked as "Blocked | Deleted"? Or even the buttons the right-hand side, Block/Post, what do they do?

Agreed with the previous poster though, would be interesting to see it improved!

Zombeer by justinooncx 2017-12-22T18:15:21Z

An interesting game (but admittedly quite traditional, was an interesting throwback to playing these kinds of games on Kongregate a few years back), but for the love of god: if you make a game with sound (esp the music which plays right away in the menu), please let the player adjust the volume! (I turned my volume to like 5% on my system to not turn deaf)

Though the easiest thing you can do is make sure the baseline is already lower than 100%, don't set the volume so high!

*... Please :D*

Don't forget to go out and vote others games if you want yours to get a few more too, just open the smart games ranking (or even the ranking of danger https://ldjam.com/games/danger/all or ones with very few ratings, depending on what you want to do! https://ldjam.com/games/zero/all) and go through and play and rate a few :)

Hope you make it through, aside from the sound issue, it is a fun little game and the recoil and drunkenness mechanic has an interesting duality in that they affect eachother!

The Luckiest Businessman by mortus 2017-12-05T19:41:09Z

Why am I never this lucky in real life? Then again, I also don't have the police take such.. great interest in me in real life either, or the local mob for that matter. So maybe I should be happy? :D

Quite easy to get lost in the game and just keep going!

I even managed to mess up my sleep cycle, just like in real life! The realism!

Money transporter by lexi 2017-12-17T20:06:03Z

This reminds me of an old game on newgrounds where you ran around setting cars and mailboxes and things on fire while trying to avoid police.. With wrap-around it would have been easier, but maybe it would have been too easy with wrap-around? Who knows, quite interesting!

+1 for the earlier suggestions larger resolution and somee nice music, would be quite easy to get lost in with some background music!

Nice work! :D

Vroom Vroom Kaboom by profan 2017-12-05T16:31:40Z

@grey @skipyC Indeed, a definitive will-have if i do continue to work on it afterwards!

Vroom Vroom Kaboom by profan 2017-12-05T16:33:30Z

@TerraPass Ah yes, the problem of directions is something even I had problems with during development (and others have mentioned the same) so should I continue dev, it will definitely be addressed by making it enoxably clear which direction the taxi is *actually* pointing at any given time (arrows, maybe even?)

(the syntax was originally not intended to exist, but it was supposed to be based around drag and drop and images of the instructions you could rearrange, but alas.. time)

Thanks for your feedback! :D

Vroom Vroom Kaboom by profan 2017-12-05T23:38:20Z

@eric-florio similar to your game? huh.. hm (*runs off to try your game*)

Indeed, that does need to be sorted somehow cause even I was having problems distinguishing at times ^^

Thanks!

Vroom Vroom Kaboom by profan 2017-12-06T09:54:27Z

@nardandas @Drury @nanolotl I definitely think I will have a go at making at least enough levels to fill up the 12 boxes that are there (the original goal was 24), but I will shoot for at least 12 as soon as LD40 is over :)

Glad to hear more would be nice :D

Vroom Vroom Kaboom by profan 2017-12-17T19:02:33Z

@Shimmen ironically, I'm on a Swedish keyboard too (well.. I'm Swedish) but I will definitely overhaul the instruction input method in the post-jam phase, running it by people in the process (the instructions were picked out of hmm.. eccentricity? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brainfuck to be precise) it just felt right, even if they're hard to type even for me!)

It would actually be interesting to have some sort of international chart over what keys might be problematic in what countries.. but remapping is definitely optimal, if keyboard input has to be the way.

Thanks! :D

@Krassenstein @honest-dan absolutely, work on a level editor is underway so will be making more levels for the post-jam times :)

Vroom Vroom Kaboom by profan 2017-12-17T19:48:47Z

@Lamossus Indeed, the variation thing is something I also plan to address and have thought about, something that I've been thinking about is the introduction of environmental elements, vehicles such as trams that would move across the map in certain patterns or single cars that are by themselves just crossing the level :)...

Not to mention, as you can see in the UI, you have an interface element showing how many taxis are still alive, so the introduction of levels where you can not have all your taxis survive but must reach a certain % at the minimum is another thing. We'll see in time!

Thanks for playing and the feedback!(the direction thing is clearly a problem, so when I do put out a post-jam build, hopefully it'll be clearer already!) :D

Vroom Vroom Kaboom by profan 2017-12-17T20:08:07Z

@flauschzelle Indeed this is a known problem of the current web build, I absolutely recommend trying the desktop build as it has doesn't have that problem at all :) .. however if you do insist on trying to move on with the web build, you can exit to the level select screen with Escape (and then use arrow keys + enter to navigate the popup that shows up) which can get you out of that situation sometimes :)

Vroom Vroom Kaboom by profan 2017-12-19T02:11:10Z

@jnharton Haha wow, thanks for the exhaustive feedback, it would be great if everyone put as much of their experience into words as you did here!

Indeed the issue of destinations is something that has been thought about as well (and was clearly an issue even during development but decided to delay adressing it to postjam as the deadline quickly rampaged closer)!

I'd definitely be interested in what you mentioned of the UI weirdness (also it should be noted, I completely didn't even realise there was the UI pulldown for copy/paste/select! ... but apparently Godot supplies that too for the text editing fields, nice catch) (.. also, you played the desktop version, I assume?)

I'm definitely going to aim for a logographic approach to the instructions + some kind of drag/drop approach + keyboard shortcuts for creating them.

Saving solutions (and scoreboards for both number of steps and timing) is also in the plans!

Thanks! (oh and contact me on whatever medium you desire if you have the time and energy later and i'll look into the UI stuff specifically :D)

Tillage Fever by pigdev 2017-12-26T00:44:10Z

Solid game! It was a nice surprise to see the growing mechanic and how it interacted with the mechanic of supply/demand, interesting to see another fellow using the early builds of Godot 3 as well :)

The only thing I didn't get quite is how it connected with the theme, but maybe that's just me being slow haha

I liked the music too! Nice work :)

Assembly Line by WhatFruit 2017-12-19T23:18:12Z

I initially had the same confusion as @sarrixx when trying to play, in that initially I wasnt't sure how to even play.

I know you could push these buttons to your left and right to spawn these balls and pick them up&drop them in the boxes after some trial and error, but there was some incredible frustration mixed in by the fact that there were balls with very very slight colour differences which definitely wasn't any fun when you thought you'd nailed a crate and in the end actually you dropped the slightly darker shade of green in when it should have been the slightly lighter shade of green.

I would also be careful with those colour choices, red/green colour blindness is really common (so red and green as primary colours players have to distinguish between is one of the worst), but even for people who were not colour-blind (like.. me), it was very difficult.

The music was quite nice though, the repetitiveness nicely fit the mood of working on assembly-line operating at breakneck pace :)

It would have been very nice to initialy get a view of the "whole" room, before you're placed into the assembly line, because it took a while initially to even realise there was also a panel with buttons to your right side.

(also don't forget to go out and play and rate others games if you want others to see yours and play yours, right now you're at 0 so nobody is coming into rate yours except from the "danger" category where those with very few ratings are!)

Good work nonetheless, definitely an interesting idea :)

Sailor Wolf by Pashok 2017-12-07T02:47:07Z

Really quite impressive! Unfortunately, it was sometimes quite difficult to get control of the raft as it shared a button with breaking up the cat-fights, would have been nice to have them be separate :)

The music is a nice fit with the whole "rescuing cats from the open water" theme and just trying to survive, despite sounding so sad!

Really nice, super cute art-wise!

Quadrilateral Damage by TheMadPangolin 2017-12-05T22:19:07Z

I really quite liked the mechanic of the bullets flying around the level after you shoot them, you frantically running around trying to collect them all, it is definitely faithful to the theme, but wow it was seriously annoying in the middle of the bossfight when you had the huge square bullets covering everything and then also the several waves of boss bullets!

But.. I could forgive that because it was still so much fun, lots of fun!

Easy to jump into, even if it is sometimes hard to understand why certain things happen (like how your bullets get smaller due to.. blue spheres?)

Risky Robbery by Markus 2017-12-06T22:26:35Z

I never knew a safe-cracking minigame alone could be so much fun, if theres anything to complain its that it wasn't immediately clear how to get out (and back) to the game after having zoomed into the safe and been done with it, turns out you can scroll to do get out, but would have been nice if you could click somewhere or something too!

Great work :D

Squares Kill by regisclaus 2017-12-19T22:56:41Z

It's a shame you didn't get more time to work on the game, also if you do want more people to come in and play and rate your game, don't forget to go out and play and rate others! :)

The idea of the brown squares was interesting but even after having read the description, it was easy to forget they weren't just walls/elements of the map rather than the crates (i assume) you intended them to be as they contained powerups.

The Incredible Car Salesman by Eric Florio 2017-12-05T23:58:54Z

This game.. it fools you into thinking you're well on your way to the target and then the entire playing field turns into a masssive traffic jam, it's... hahahaha, very good!

Dungeon Boy! by nardandas 2017-12-07T00:16:00Z

I quite liked the smooth movement and the animations, but as others have stated, it is really quite a shame about the main attack being so lackluster in feedback!

It was definitely easy to just sprint across the map, picking up the pieces of gold instead of engaging the enemies. The music was definitely nice, even if quite dramatic for the game!

Better feedback!

Nice work either way! :D

Cavern Breakout by jandourek 2017-12-17T19:42:46Z

This is probably the first game I've seen this LD where you literally deconstruct the level around you as you try to make your way across it, I quite like the take on the theme too! .. because initially, I was wondering "so how does this factor into the theme actually?".. that was until I accumulated about 25 blocks in the very first level and the skeleton turned into some kind of bone-machinegun after which point it was very apparent... :D

Did have some minor bugs though, sometimes the skeletons would stop throwing bones at all (as well as getting stuck in midair when placing a block and also moving through the air at the same time).

Overall, an interesting game, and it is brave to take on making a level-based game for LD as well, given the time it takes to just make the levels.. especially for a game like this :D

Good job!

Zealot by fasterthanlime 2017-12-05T16:36:14Z

The music is just terrific, the mood of the game and the graphics is flawless.

However mechanically it definitely takes some time to figure out what card actually does what, admittedly I'm rather poor at card games.. :D (+1 local multiplayer for something like this would be ace)

Will be playing a few more rounds to get some insight into the rules!

Debt Crisis by Invixel 2017-12-05T21:59:37Z

I really quite liked the music, difficult indeed.. nice work!

Property In-spectre by Tad 2017-12-17T19:25:55Z

Absolutely charming 2D art, as others have mentioned main gripes involved the controls (going up/down stairs could have been more intuitive), but overall I enjoyed it.. I mean, screaming at ghosts? .. It is good :D

Desert Express by TerraPass 2017-12-17T17:30:41Z

Interesting, I really enjoyed the music associated with the game and the background giving the feeling of actual motion with some variance in the landscape, it's a shame the shooting mechanics didn't have a bit more juice to them as that alone would have brought the game along quite a bit!

Quite curious what you'll end up doing with the postjam version though, the progression being entirely random proved a bit anticlimactic as you started on a level with something like 19 crates then suddenly jumped down to 5 something and far less enemies!

Interesting to see you used your own engine (though this meant it didn't run on my Ubuntu 16.04 machine as i've yet to jump to 17.04.. finally tried the game on Windows now!)

Nice work :)

Hey look at this by Sugiuro 2017-12-26T01:56:11Z

Office simulator, .. and every other question being related to git honestly sounds about right :D

Would have been nice if the UI was a bit leaner, considering it was most of the game, it's a shame it wasn't a bit less obtuse (like the three action buttons in the top right, would have been interesting to have a workstation you clicked on or something instead)

Also the typing minigame, it wasn't immediately clear if you were typing the wrong thing (or indeed, exactly when you could type or couldn't because you'd been interrupted by a popup) so some feedback on when a keypress actually didn't do anything would have been nice (for when that particular minigame is active)

Nice work still :)

A Tale about Tail by barsoosayque 2017-12-19T23:47:11Z

The fox is just adorable. We need more games with foxes in them, clearly.

*Ahem* ... As a whole it's quite cohesive with the music and the art and all (and this is one of those few cases, except the other game i encountered where you were carrying coins), where getting slower actually makes sense from the game's perspective too!

If theres a gripe I have with the controls it is that you used arrow key up rather than a dedicated jump key, I can not even describe just how annoying this can sometimes be.. :P

That aside, great work guys :)

King of Coins by SandPile 2017-12-20T00:59:07Z

Nice puzzle design overall, interesting to see more entries taking this level based puzzle design :)

I sympathize with the feeling of neglecting other things in favor of LD for a while.. :D

If theres any one thing which had me confuse for a bit was how to drop down from platforms, which I would assume was going to be the arrow down key, but it was actually space + arrow down key, but really thats just a small detail, overall I thought it was a great entry.

Nice work!

RQ5: backup-dancer rampage! by Adrien Dittrick 2017-12-05T21:17:46Z

Move with the beat! Great fun! :D

Heavy Gold by Poorwill 2017-12-07T00:43:59Z

Interesting game, it would definitely be nicer to have keyboard movement (I would personally prefer to still move in direction of mouse, just not hold mouse 1 to move, instead W or something)

Good job :)

APOLLO v-1.0 by grey 2017-12-06T00:11:59Z

Wow, quite difficult as you get heavier and heavier; but I loved the overall feeling of the flying and the sound-effect for the thruster, if theres any small complaint I have it is that the sound-effect of the thruster is quite loud, could tone down the volume just a tiny bit, but all-in-all quite addictive!

Great work! :D

My Greedy Dog Steve by Honest Dan 2017-12-17T18:07:09Z

This game.. quite punishing indeed :D

It did feel a tad odd to have the perk choice pop up straight as you "levelled up" in the midst of combat, even if I can see why making that choice might make it easier to let the player know right then and there.

The art style is definitely charming, if theres any complaint on those grounds I have it would be the font being nigh-unreadable for the tiny hints that showed up over items on the ground at times! (the animations can be excused easily, with the time constraints :))

Great work, the music and the art and the game's progression definitely fit the theme.. maybe a bit too well? :D

Goodnight Sheep by littlecloudflower 2017-12-26T02:36:39Z

Christ, distressingly relateable! Good points on mood, the music and all fits very well, adorable sheep are a nice contrast to the.. darker theme :)

Full Shelter by SimonBeats 2017-12-05T17:03:43Z

Good god, all the cats are dying and theres nothing I can do because they keep multiplying ;_;

I guess this would classify as a clicker game of sorts? I quite liked it though, despite the prospect of a house full of dead cats..

Blinding Light by Gaminbru 2017-12-17T20:26:55Z

This is really nice, despite what others have said about it seeming rough, I can not agree, as a whole it's wonderful! (and jumping through the dark-... err lightness? when the light when became so large it basically enveloped your whole view in the level was clever, and it was a nice touch to end the game that way too!)

Aside from the fact that lives did not serve much of a purpose as you quickly landed on 1 health and ended up being stuck with that for the rest of the level after that point, it was absolutely addictive and the visuals all line up.

Nice work :)

ColorShooter by skipyC 2017-12-06T00:16:20Z

Wow christ, I thought I had a handle on the general situation and then suddenly this gigantic swarm of letters was upon me!

I could definitely come back to this, despite its simplicity!

I was initially confused how to kill the mysterious red circles, until reading the instructions you had posted here, definitely scary when you're ingame though and you're trying to find a letter to read hah

Great work! :D

Space Cactus by Brian Wurster 2017-12-05T16:54:02Z

It's fun, it quite simple but really who cares if it has been done before when it's done again so satisfyingly? ^^

The bouncy music is such a nice fit to the game, even if a tad repetetive :)

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deep Dive by Frederika 2021-04-27T17:58:37Z

Initially I figured "oh so I need just three samples?" and went down and back up and the game ended, where the more interesting bit of sea creatures only happened when you replayed it, but indeed it's a little dull to do the journey back up as it is :)

I like the sticking mechanic, only complaint I would have is it feels impossible to avoid the damage once you get to that point where they all stick to you :eyes:

Cute!

Well Down by CamCam 2021-04-27T17:48:52Z

I really enjoyed the music (initially at least), but the fact that it restarted on every death made it a little bit painful, if it had at least been persistent regardless of current gamestate I'd have kept enjoying it despite it looping :P

I like the diagonal dashing, but it was by complete chance i discovered it was there, would have been nice to have something telling you it was!

(also I think I got teleported back to the start after picking up a red sword(?) was this the end or something else?)

+1 for the spikes merging quite awkwardly contrast wise with the background :)

Also fall damage being somewhat unforgiving was quite confusing, falling from a certain height killed you but not another.. (I think this is why some said it was resetting, when it was actually death from falling)

I really liked the character movement however, jank aside :)

Mineveinia by justinooncx 2021-04-27T18:18:27Z

Really lovely art, but good lord the framerate is killing me! It's hard to continue like this :D

into the cabal by profan 2021-04-27T18:28:48Z

@klaaswag the mouse sensitivity thing is a real issue, if i'd had more time I would have liked to have made it configurable (I use a very low DPI setting myself, so that's probably why it's off!)

@Substain @robochase6000 @jojopalambas thank you! and yeah, I should have added a way to read the clue once more, perhaps by returning to the place where you first got it :)

As for the book's motion.. lets call it the effect of the magic imbued on the one remaining book (but really I should have made it a kinematic object instead of a rigid body one with custom physics) :D

into the cabal by profan 2021-04-27T19:48:39Z

@potti haha, yes, after playing some other games, notably, ah it's yours.. yes, after playing the game you were part of making, I felt like "aaah, I wanted to add some readable books too!"

into the cabal by profan 2021-04-28T19:12:42Z

@ruslana sorry to hear you couldn't get past the section with the book, thanks for trying it anyways (the physics are quite terrible indeed) :eyes:

@skvader-418 haha, it does seem the maze.. puzzles people, i'd have liked to have worked in a few sound effects but still need to learn how to make those :D thanks for playing!

into the cabal by profan 2021-05-01T17:46:25Z

@lrvstudios glad to hear you enjoyed it, being able to revisit the hints/also let the players pace them isn't a bad idea at all :) i'll see if i have any energy to revisit it a little bit and fix these small things, originally it was also supposed to be a 100% seamless maze (no teleportation at all), so might fix that in the same go :eyes:

thanks for playing!

into the cabal by profan 2021-05-01T20:09:35Z

@jandourek haha, yeaaah, the music was algorithmically put together and the initial cut looped better but it had a horrible clipping sound, but i was about 1h from the deadline at that point :D

i will probably adjust it for a post-jam update, thanks for having a go :) (the text is def an accessibility issue)

Exiled by ladybenko 2021-05-01T15:41:08Z

Doomed to walk the same halls forever :eyes: Interesting idea, would have been nice to have had a clearer "conclusion" to it, but it felt very cohesive with the art and music regardless :)

Nice entry

Between the Lines by Markus 2021-04-27T19:05:41Z

I finished it! I put on some medieval tunes in the background with it and I really enjoyed it, good work getting this done on a jam deadline, this amount of writing on this deadline doesn't seem like it would be simple :eyes:

Would have loved some music, but with what you have here, I totally understand that there is not :)

Cave of Death by Fabian G 2021-04-28T19:24:16Z

Quite moody, I really enjoyed the sense of space in the bigger scenes, especially the canyon :)

All this in the compo anyways? Hah! Nice work :D

Fathom Commander by Adam Martin 2021-04-29T19:35:36Z

I quite like it, the camera as mentioned by many others was a bit of an annoyance, and the function of the slider was only really clear to me after i'd failed once, but when knowing how to use that aspect things were definitely smoother sailing, I really enjoyed the 3D seascape passing in the background!

Probably the best one I've seen so far out of the many takes on the "deeper in the sea" takes of the theme, very nice :D

Managing the o2 was probably the most annoying bit as it depleted *very quickly* even right at the beginning of the game, so you were more or less forced to have someone always there

The Bottom of the Snow by Enver Arco 2021-04-27T18:25:30Z

I died at day five, neglecting staying warm, I must admit I laughed when the character just fell over like a log on day two the first time they got too tired to go on :D

Charming :) Feels like it accurately represents what shoveling snow on the moon might be like

Deeper Into Enemy Lines! by Ganny 2021-04-29T19:55:02Z

Reached depth 6! This was really refreshing after having played a ton of submarine games :D

Had absolutely 0 problems figuring out how to play, things just flowed and the sound was on point..

Nice!

Sonder (a story) by Noble Robot 2021-04-27T17:34:29Z

Moody! I initially didn't understand what happened when objects moved around and new ones appeared, but by the second time it became obvious it was the passage of time, very cute! :D

Melancholy, but in a nice soft way

Cortex by sockpuppetcow 2021-04-29T18:27:36Z

I quite enjoyed the movement model in this game, probably the best out of the LD games i've tried so far this jam :D The roly-poly type enemies seemed a bit impotent in the very chunky landscape, often spawning in places where they couldn't be of much threat :eyes:

Would have been nice to have a clearer representation of how "deep" you are into the cortex (more than the counter) but I understand it's a jam and doing a 3D game yourself in this timespan is already *so hard* :D

Feedback on hitting the enemies would have been nice, but really I was having quite a lot of fun just zooming around with how the movement was set up :)

The Creature Said DEEPER by UseCondsomsKid 2021-04-27T18:12:43Z

I loved it, the narration did it for me, but even the core mechanic while very simple was really engaging, got things flowing together with the narration and theme! +1 for the annoyance about the scientific aspect of it though :eyes: but that's such a minor thing in the scope of this rather lovely little game

Turn of the Tide by Polyethyleneglykol 2021-04-28T20:45:16Z

this is quite possibly my favourite game of the jam so far, possibly because of my obsession with these kinds of strategy games, and the commando-sort of vibe the music gave it absolutely added to it! i really like it!

it was surprisingly un-janky given the timeframe it was made in! very nice :D

if i out of sheer necessity have to complain about anything, it's that it would have been nice to easily zoom in on where a specific unit is, given the scale of the map (and that the combat within which you'd get absolutely smashed seemed hard to avoid once you got past the first few obstacles)

also figuring out how to use the traps was a bit hm, i think i accidentally placed a few of them, realising afterwards it wasn't buttons to get more units but to spawn the traps, oops :P

but really, those are minor complaints :) very cool

Trposhi by mira 2021-04-27T18:43:11Z

Poor boorin! The one who died for my boundless greed, but deeper yet the mines must go...

Missing an incenctive for digging deeper since you can't get more dwarves, just the satisfaction of seeing your mine extend to ridiculous depths? The sounds to go with each action was a nice touch :)

I don't like idle games in general, but this one I really don't mind! It's charming!

Sub-Optimal by Spice Cabinet 2021-04-28T19:43:07Z

The art for the sub was on point, but the checkpoints not functioning was unbelievably frustrating given you had to sit through the dialog bits every time you went back to the checkpoints!

+ points for the meta humor though, the bits that annoyed me were merely functional! (text speed/the way it printed, checkpoints)

Overall, still a nice experience, if a bit frustrating :)

Sector Sweep by Skvader_418 2021-04-27T12:59:42Z

I quite liked it! The punchy sound effects were a nice touch, I initially thought it might have been a little too simple, but the progression of each level to the next worked out quite well!

Though the "boss" level was a little underwhelming, was hoping for more challenge there, as the level before was harder :eyes:

+1 for the performance issues, loading into some levels initially was quite painful (and I have a fairly powerful machine!)

Nice work!

ARTerial (the AI-generated art museum) by MEGA Marlon 2021-04-29T12:43:38Z

I quite liked this one, bit of a shame the art wasn't framed more nicely, a bit of lighting in the individual spaces i think would have done a lot to elevate the experience of exploring novel art! (just like in a real gallery, where half of the work is just making sure what you're presenting fits in the space :D)

I managed to get supremely lost (the footsteps helped, but you can only aid a fool so much), and I'm not entirely sure but is the space actually infinite? It certainly felt like it!

Also nice to see someone managed to get picking up objects _almost_ as janky as I did :eyes:

Would also have been interesting to see themed rooms/colour schemes? (at the current time, it's quite hard to tell you've already been somewhere, but in a real gallery it's usually reasonably obvious!)

Anyways now I'm backseat deving here and it's impressive this got done in this timeframe anyways!

Nice work!

Khazads by vsi- 2021-04-30T21:49:47Z

atmosphere wise i really liked this game, though the turrets perpetually being out of sight with how the vision in the game worked was a little frustrating, definitely some real points for being on point with the theme :)

the intro screen alone was impressive though :D

Belongings Left Behind by trei 2021-04-27T19:34:59Z

Given the cute vibe of the game, I was surprised to find inside a hard as nails platformer! It's also a shame the really nice sprites seem to have been squuished a bit, would have been nice to see them a little bit more clearly, because clearly some love had gone into those items :)

I got to the sweater level and then after failing that 30+ times I decided to give up :D (I also enjoyed that with each level, there was a unique track to set the mood, I wish I'd been able to do that too)

You made a game in 72h! Hope to see you in LD again :)

Depth of Memory by feralpoodles 2021-05-01T15:06:39Z

Lovely, also amazing that it was accomplished in 48 hours, nice work :)

EveryDay by xpoho 2021-04-29T18:07:55Z

Oof, grim! But of course.. always coffee, even after everything else has fallen apart dramatically :D

I really like this take on the theme, nice work

Dark Dive by Whysguy52 2021-04-30T22:53:20Z

Quite liked it, shame the movement of the sub didn't have a little bit more dynamics to it, but given it's your first jam entry and you're neither a dev nor an artist primarily.. Good work :eyes:

(I really enjoyed the sonar mechanic, also hi fellow Godot dev :D)

Egress by SirDuck 2021-04-27T20:02:08Z

Feels super polished, also another Godot fellow! Hi! :D

Amazing you actually had a tutorial at all, but I must admit the workings of the game were slightly elusive to me, I guess the colours had something to do with it? I managed to intuit "good builds" but it largely felt like a game of chance of sorts :)

Very nice concept!

Erode by EnergizedBlast 2021-04-27T20:29:57Z

Reached depth 214! The blobby water is lovely and the overall palette is just :ok_hand:

Does feel like you're kind of doomed once you reach 200+ though :D

OBLIGATE ANAEROBE UT ALTIUS by Itzemii 2021-04-27T20:20:57Z

Managed to get 314, I quite liked it but I must admit I was very confused by the mechanicsfor quite a bit :eyes:

But I like how it stands apart from basically everything else I've played so far, also anaerobes rock.

Nice work!

LD52 — Harvest

Exploding Carrots by aucguy 2023-01-25T22:43:06Z

Would have loved arrow keys for movement in this game as well alongside WASD, but I quite liked this game, easy to get into the flow of going for the angry exploding carrots while trying to stay alive :)

Rotten Harvest by Alex Macafee 2023-01-10T21:56:50Z

Took me a bit to realise the crops turning red/pink was them rotting, but I caught on after a bit, it seems like the ideal balance in this game is actually to let a few crops rot and then just have as many growing as you can handle, as you otherwise inevitably always end up with a few rotten crops, saving them all is impossible :D

(also definitely didn't expect to see a raylib game here, was interesting on that note alone!)

Nice work :)

Feast of Gévaudan by hunttis 2023-01-26T21:58:25Z

I like this game, pretty easy to get into and the gameplay loop is pretty straightforward, though initially it was hard to tell who the clerics were and which were the peasants, but that only took dying once or twice to figure out, so it wasn't really that bad :)

Will echo what @kikiriki367 and others have said though and say that the camera jolting around was pretty disorienting, either making the camera just stick directly to the character or makign the adjustments much much much more subtle would be a big improvement!

Also loved the weird VO, had to laugh with the contrast of coming to chomp on some peasants with this dramatic music in the background and then one of the peasants going "NICE SHIRT, I LIKE IT" :D

Nice work!

Harkonnen Daily by asfdfdfd 2023-01-10T22:32:54Z

Cute getting an intro sequence in there as well, works well with introducing how to play as well :)

Gameplay loop worked pretty well, and the effect when harvesting spice was definitely a nice touch, though it would definitely have been nice to have some sort of sign as to where the worm was going to show up next, right now it felt a little random?

Good work!

The Cactilogue by Sarah 2023-01-11T23:54:00Z

This game was a surprising breath of fresh air given how many times I'd been destroyed in the jam games I've tried so far, and here this little cactus game had me hooked more than any of the others, and it's so cute!

The music and sfx fit the rest of the aesthetic perfectly, and mood wise this was the chillest game I've tried so far, for sure.

My little Cactilogue!

firefox_X97AGO4V1j.png

If only I had such green fingers outside of this wonderful little game :)

Wonderful work!

Initial Harvester by profan 2023-01-09T22:12:28Z

@twilightrh yeah that's fair, in the end i turned it into a time attack because that was the easiest twist on making there be a clear end/win state for the game, other than "harvest all the crops" (which was where I started, but seemed a little lame) and then you could also compare scores if you want too/improve on the speed at which you harvest everything :)

Initial Harvester by profan 2023-01-11T19:18:53Z

@creativecodingsebastian initially i wanted to have the map be a lot larger for sure, including little farm fields with animals that you had to maybe drive across but without crushing your sheep to death :D (with the little sheep wandering about) thanks for playing!

i also made fences that i was gonna place around the level (and would break/damage your harvester a little like the rocks but less than the rocks did), but i decided towards the end that maybe they'd just be more annoying than interesting to have to go around :)

(another idea a friend of mine sadly gave me way too late, was to have WASD control the harvester and then have arrow keys control the truck which would collect the grain and you had to match both up to not waste grain harvested!)

Initial Harvester by profan 2023-01-15T18:59:12Z

@pulni The leaderboard is definitely a good shout, and I wanted to add one but by the time I was like "done done" with the game, there was only about 2 hours left, so I didn't have time to add it but it would definitely have made the scores more interesting :D

Make the system! I'll probably do the same and make sure I have one I can just directly hook up next gamejam too :)

And you're probably right that making it level based and maybe adding at least one or two more would have been interesting, initially I was looking at an infinite map, but that got scrapped due to time!

I might go back and add a few more levels and fix a few rough edges, but we will see :eyes:

Thanks for playing!

Mountain of the Dragon Fruits by thomas-olsson 2023-01-16T23:31:44Z

This is unironically better lemmings, I loved it, and if I have to summon even a single nitpick, it would be that on one of the levels, this one:

firefox_BHf7za2M6w.png

Every time you ran the level, you got _ever so slightly different_ results and sometimes it wasn't completable with the exact same pieces placed down :) But that's really a nitpick and the fact that this is a compo game is extraordinary.

Great work! I'll be sending this game to a few friends :D

IRON HARVEST by katamary 2023-01-11T23:31:36Z

I quite like the look of this game but lord I could not figure out how to actually end up gaining energy reliably :D

(update: OK at some point I figured out I guess you feed the reactor with seeds and gain energy that way? but it was unclear if you needed to do anything specific to make the robots do things (click in the field etc? or they just worked by themselves automatically))

I imagine the basic idea of this entry could have worked well had the number of classes of vehicles been stripped down quite dramatically (maybe roughly half as many?) I did figure out that turning off human capsules maybe gave you back some energy in a sense, but even there the feedback loop was really not obvious.

It was also a little confusing that half the field was -always- covered by some sort of plants I guess, but that didn't seem to change?

The overall ambience of the game was really cool though, in that sense it felt pretty polished, even if maybe UX wise it was quite confusing :)

Nice shot at LD either way!

Puppet show! by mitus 2023-01-09T20:24:43Z

I really enjoyed this game and the concept in general, I'd never have thought to use TTS for audio like this but it totally put a smile on my face, if I have to complain about anything it'd be the segment with scaring away the birds dragged on and didn't really end at a clear point (there were still many birds left when the curtains were pulled) but that's really minor :)

Hope to see your work again another LD :D

Harvest Simulator by kromeboy 2023-01-10T20:04:11Z

I like this, the birds in the background and the sound to cut wheat put a smile on my face, also props for getting a highscore listing in on the jam deadline! I wanted one too but alas, time :D

Nice work!

Crops on fire by Richard Jedlicka 2023-01-12T23:39:50Z

I love it! Also woo another person who made a game with a combine harvester in it :D Drifting around in the harvester, cutting tracks around the fire so that it could not spread to all your crops like some kind of overpowered firefighter is very enjoyable indeed.

A little sound would definitely add to the experience, like hearing the crackling of the fire as you drift past in your tuned up harvester! The minimap was a really great addition too, and it's really satisfying seeing the tracks you've drawn in your field!

Honestly wish I'd leaned more into the "harvester go fast" bit given this game, nice work!

Managed to get 88 % on Hard

LD52_3PVoRvw3PO.png

But Hell is a whole other story, definitely a new level of difficult :D

Hex-Yield by AndideBob 2023-01-21T18:30:18Z

This is so cute! And relaxing! The dopamine hit from "harvesting" your world after each go is incredible.

If there's any small complaint I must make it's that you must unselect a tile to select another, as people have already mentioned like @drawrunner and probably others as well :) But the step between this game and a game that feels _really polished_ (it already feels pretty polished) is not far at all!

And the music is such a vibe.

Really nice work!

Crophunt by Bugord 2023-01-26T22:31:45Z

This is a great entry, and really delivered on more than I expected, because I mean being able to do a backflip in your harvester and have your harvester then instantly be covered in the little angry garden peas you just harvested (or watermelons? they seem to scale dramatically, i assume when they have been harvested they're less angry and thus like pufferfish, shrink when they do not feel threatned) I think makes up for most things :D

The driving physics were really nice too and past the initial awkwardness of figuring out how they worked, worked pretty well, though the backflip is definitely not what I expected from a command like "unstuck" but it worked in the game's favour really!

If there's anything to remark on it would be that there wasn't a clear "end" to the game really, and that initially when driving around harvesting crops it was easy to get "lost" and lose track of where to drop off your angry little peas :) (but that really wasn't a big problem by any means)

Nice work! (also is crophunt a play on prophunt?)

BEE A GOOD BEE: And Fetch Me Some Pollen by ahintoflime 2023-01-14T14:52:26Z

The music is very cute, definitely suits the game really well!

... And before I'd actually read that you need to refresh the page to not have the difficulty increase on each restart, I was thinking it was impossible because of the literal wall of flowers that was coming after me :D

One small suggestion would be to let the camera "look ahead" when you're moving maybe, as @breadstick already remarked, so that you see what you're about to fly into, that was one thing that was quite difficult to avoid :)

Or zooming out as you said already!

Neat game!

Rough Harvest by Timur_Bahadir 2023-01-12T23:02:09Z

Definitely one of my favourites so far, I learned pretty early on that planting too much corn all at once was about the same as asking to be executed by a firing squad and focusing first on carrots and paprikas seemed a fairly sensible choice, which did certainly make things way more viable :D

After picking up a workable strategy it became really enjoyable, though I will say that you basically barely need any of the buffs to get to the end, the very first carrot stew is useful to retain some health if you happen to get hit (by the surprisingly well telegraphed attacks!) but otherwise you can make it to the end pretty vanilla!

Really enjoyable, but yeah the buffs/foods weren't really necessary to succesfully play the game because as @antti-haavikko points out, you are always in control of what spawns so you could make it as easy on yourself as you wanted (or as hard on yourself as you wanted, if you like me initially planted corn everywhere and got the fusillade)

Good work either way :)

Wheat melody by EasyLuckyGem 2023-01-10T22:51:06Z

I quite like this game, the music and the art overall goes really well together, (but it's really a shame there's only a browser build and it was quite stuttery and laggy for me), moreover as i think @orhu already mentioned, it'd be cool if things were more on-beat as there's definitely potential here!

Having an in-game guide would have helped because I think it was only by coincidence I figured out arrow keys were the controls :)

Nice work either way!

LD52 Moonlight by Fis 2023-01-15T00:23:16Z

Curious little game, the delta between planting a flower and gaining the HP back being a whopping 2HP didn't make it a very interesting proposition though really, especially given when planting a flower you'd be very likely to get swarmed by a bunch of enemies right away too :D

And if you'd ended up with 1hp, you're kind of dead already since you can't plant more flowers to gain HP back at this point (since it costs the aforementioned 3HP to plant a flower).

And as others have said already, having sfx for the attacks and enemies would have added a lot to the experience :)

The art and music is really cute though, and overall style wise I think it's quite cool!

Grow In The Dark by Flauschzelle 2023-01-27T19:57:28Z

This is a cute game, feels a little like programming but a lot cuter and the overall theme is lovely!

The difficulty ramped up pretty quickly though and on level 2 already it was getting pretty interesting, some smoother cotnrols for placing things would definitely help too, but this is definitely one of my top picks as far as innovative games goes this jam :)

Nice work!

Harvest is coming by thomasward 2023-01-15T19:31:31Z

That was quite moody, but understanding how to interact with most parts of the game was a bit of a crapshoot, the oven, the herbs, the dinner table, I thought they were all incompleted parts of the game because WASD did nothing in those menus, but apparently they were controlled with the arrow keys or something, why does the mouse just do nothing for these specifically?

Quite confusing, I think @papabirb and @sharks already outlined anything I might already mention though, and definitely contextual hints as to what would help you do the right thing to allow people to live would be lovely.

Also more of a visual bug, but when playing the game in the itch player in not-fullscreen, some dialog was simply entirely offscreen as it was I guess vertically aligned to the bottom instead of the top or something? So some of the dialog I initially thought was either broken or just empty, until I fullscreened the game again and noticed that the dialog was indeed there, just waaaaay down at the bottom of the screen :)

The mood, art, audio, dialog however though all come together to form quite the picture.

It's a definite outlier though, with some polish, I'd love this, nice work :)

EDIT: because I liked the game I wanted my girlfriend to try it out as well, however she has a laptop with a 1600x900 screen and it seems like even if you fullscreen the game there, it cuts off like half the text you need to read, two examples:

Discord_FTi5CV5zwo.png

Discord_HRgWp7b54K.png

So the text issue is definitely pretty severe :)

Interesting little game, though the first thing I tried to do was go into town while my wheat was growing in my farm (and it had just vanished while I was gone?) so that was a little silly, the wheat selling mechanic not working is a little sad, but I do like the art you've put together, scoping it down a lot more and actually just focusing on selling only wheat and maybe making the town even smaller would have probably made it easier to finish on time :)

Either way, I hope to see you again in another LD! It's an interesting setup, just needs a little narrowing down (and having the transition between the farm and the town be smoother would improve the feel a lot)

Good work regardless :D

Drake's Fortune by chompdev 2023-01-11T18:16:50Z

So much fun, definitely the first game this jam i've seen that involves dragons, and seeing the little men on the walls careening off into the abyss after you'd blasted countless fireballs into their walls is incredible.

If there's anything to remark on, a little bit of ambient audio would be cool, but isn't strictly necessary, definitely one of my favourite games so far :D (and maybe the dragon movement? but still really fun)

Really nice work!

Planetary Planter by MidoriMelody 2023-01-14T00:07:03Z

Hmm, I guess the game doesn't end as probably intended when the timer reaches zero currently :D

The concept is cute so is the idea of "runflora", it's a shame you didn't add a blocker around the edges of the map, but it's an interesting game regardless :)

DeadLyft by JoshH 2023-01-14T17:06:52Z

Interesting little game, this is probably the first one I've seen that is a straight up VN, but it was very welcome after going through god knows how many harvesting and farming games!

The dialogue itself was quite cool, I definitely found myself with a certain level of prejudice towards the character (Mike) initially, but then slowly learning more about them.. I still had some level of prejudice towards them, but at least now I understood the man wasn't just a one dimensional stereotype but came from a good place and of good intentions, even if it was deeply ill informed.

Nice work :)

And man. This final image was far too relatable :D

Harvest Dune by rrsmtz 2023-01-10T23:39:32Z

Definitely my favourite so far, the view when the worm came for you was incredible and this was definitely a game where the screenshake was well employed! Overall a really well rounded entry, never felt like I had a hard time understanding what was going on (at least after I understood that the pools were.. spice pools) and the art, music and overall mod really came together :)

Wonderful work.

Farmer Rabbit's Wild Ride by joyrev 2023-01-27T21:55:57Z

Pretty consistent little game, the little particle effects when you shot a trowel at a carrotperson were pretty cute, but solid entry and everything feels like it was working as intended :)

Though the game definitely becomes kind of impossible past a certain point as more and more of them spawn and even with the powerups, you quickly become overwhelmed by the mass of carrots :eyes:

Elite Brain Harvester Zombie by Pulni 2023-01-15T20:35:56Z

This is a solid LD game, easy to play, easy to understand and easy to get going! And the mouth sounds type sfx and music worked really well! :D

I won't echo what others have already said re hit indicators, and the colliders of trees and stuff being pretty hard to understand at times which made things a little frustrating when you had a visual escape path lined up, but then it turned out to not be possible to go that way as the collider of the tree was way bigger than you thought :)

Good work!

Harester by spacecadet 2023-01-13T00:14:58Z

The little effect with the bush shaking when you pass through one is so cute, and combined with the bushes covering the holes in the fences it works really well! Makes you feel a little clever when you realise you can pass through the fence by going through the bush :D

It was definitely quite punishing when the farmer _instantly_ turned on his flashlight and you just happened to already be inside that flashlight cone as @serg-z said, I like the game though, it's pretty focused and just the right side for a LD game I feel :)

Do wish I could hide in that little cave you see in the beginning though, it's the first thing I tried!

Good work!

BROCOMAN by arturogcdev 2023-01-25T20:03:29Z

This is great thematically, purely as a game though it's pretty painful to play at times, especially when it feels like you've just timed it so that you stop a farmer from slicing one of your brocobros, but then they get sliced anyways :(

But the mood is fantastic :D

Nice work!

The organ trees by elFlashor 2023-01-09T20:50:26Z

I like the setup and the idea of the game, but it was quite difficult for me to grasp the mechanics as I was playing the game, some things like the hammer I managed to get to do things, but it was often far from obvious what tool should be used where and if you could even actually do anything with certain organs right now or not? :D

And the looping back/starting over when you spend points bit was also a bit disorienting, like it just threw you back into that screen at some seemingly arbitrary moments?

I like the idea though!

Just wish the bit with using tools was a little more fleshed out/going to the "shop" was less disorenting, though the billboarded sprites looked pretty slick :)

Good work! (and sorry to hear you lost a day!)

Necrotic Harvest by TheJookerful 2023-01-12T00:05:23Z

This is a really smooth little game and god damn the music is just perfect, getting it out this smoothly for the compo is really cool! It took me a bit to realise what I actually needed to do, but the demo mode helped (and so did the gif on this page, and the fact that there was a demo mode ingame is already impressive) and then I was busy mummifying :D

It was also nice that you could easily switch bodies with whoever was already on a station without any heroics, the controls generally just did what I expected (once I knew what to do with them at least).

Really cool :)

Combine Harvester: Time Attack! by Christian Zommerfelds 2023-01-10T22:41:58Z

Haha, it feels like this is basically the game I ended up making, I do like how in this game you're definitely carving a little path through your fields, whereas in the game I made it's a little chunkier...

It seems like sleecting the harvester initially on startup sometimes bugs out, ie. if you press "up" arrow before selecting the harvester, the timer starts already, but once the timer has started you can no longer select your harvester?

(also for some reason after reaching 100% completion you don't always proceed to the next level?)

Overall, an interesting entry, and I like the kind of birds eye view you have in this :)

Nice work!

GAKKI the Water Harvester by ironhandMD 2023-01-13T00:04:38Z

I quite liked the music, despite it getting a tiny bit repetitive, the game slowly feeding me little upgrades like speed, being able to destroy blocks and the little events scattered about, I quite liked it :)

For a first submission, it's cool, I think the game could have been served by maybe having a minimap of where you've explored so far (as @asilvers already said), it felt like you could pretty easily get lost (found myself feeling my way around by following the edges of the map) but of course this might also have been your design intention at the time, so who am I to judge :D

Time wise though it definitely rarely felt like you were under any actual time pressure, as water was often accompanied by another block of time added, but I understand it's hard to balance a game while also making it on a LD timeline!

If there's any "complaint" it would be that for the parts that were not possible to get through at first, it wasn't obvious that you could later break through them and at the time it maybe just felt like this section was intentionally blocked or something, but once you get the powerup it's fine :)

Keep going with LD, I hope to see more of your games!

Reaper by ImmanentDeath 2023-01-27T19:52:04Z

This is a really well put together game stylistically, sound, music, art, but gameplay wise it falls a little bit in that either feels incredibly difficult or incredibly easy (if you stand in a particular place in the game, the AI bugs out a bit and you get only a few of them attacking you at once instead of the absolute swarm you get otherwise)

This place for me: firefox_N3U2yn9XbG.png

It became a little more doable once you'd stayed in one place for a while and the powerups had dropped and you could recuperate a bit, but I didn't actually realise when I was playing that there were powerups that did anything except restore health, so having that be a little clearer as @lenaschimmel already mentioned :)

Nice work!

Scythefall by Carei 2023-01-27T20:30:56Z

I really liked the vibe of this game, the music, the sound and the kiting you end up doing when playing the game is quite enjoyable, but it was pretty painful that your attack range was basically almost exactly the size of your hitbox/the same as the enemy's range as @adhesion already said.

Loved having the minimap though, there are many other games this jam where I wish I'd had it and here it was! :D

Nice work!

Slime Crime by No whOne 2023-01-13T19:06:46Z

Haha wow this a really _juicy_ game! The combination of the sfx and audio coming together feels really solid, along with the feed of constant powerups to make you more powerful as things get slightly more difficult, really well put together!

And the main character sprite is so cute! Good work! :D

Night Time Harvest by digivorix 2023-01-27T19:05:58Z

The game is pretty simple to understand, but the gameplay loop doesn't seem to evolve that much as you get the same amount of seeds every night, and the zombies come straight at you while you have what seems like infinite ammunition, so there's not much challenge there as it is :eyes:

Would have been nice if you could have used your surplus money to maybe acquire more seeds instead of automatically getting the same amount each day, or maybe better equipment or more land or something :)

Still congratulations on getting your entry in! Hope to see you again on LD :D

Polish Parsnips by Turtle123 2023-01-15T00:12:07Z

Interesting little game loop, was reasonably easy to figure out how the game worked and how to grow things.

The music was maybe a little chaotic and quite loud as well (it would be nice to have the audio a little lower, maybe 30 %) if you can't/don't have time to allow the option to change the volume :)

Good work for your first entry, hope to see you again on LD!

Haymaker by Bobbo 2023-01-12T23:27:39Z

The camera/interacetion controls feel incredibly polished (though personally Q/E for up/down took some getting used to), and overall the way the game introduces the mechanics and how to play to you works so well, so I would say definitely do not entirely scrap this camera mode after you've made it work so well! (especially with just mouse, initially it felt confusing, but it didn't take many seconds to get used to it)

Was absolutely breaking my brain trying to fit these pieces together, but that seems just like maybe the game could have a gentler initial curve rather than anything fundamental, and everything felt so smooth that I didn't really mind feeling like an absolute idiot most of the time :)

Music is very cute and bouncy, which is funny and definitely a theme with games that look deceptively cute and simply but then are actually incredibly difficult :D

Great work!

Zomvester by Goodbye_Flash 2023-01-11T23:37:21Z

This a cute little game, definitely would have liked the sickle to slash towards where the mouse was as that's what I kept trying to do as @ekaktusz already said, though I got used to slashing in the direction of movement after a while regardless :D

The music was definitely a jam, and it feels like it fits well into the theme while being really moody in a cool way :)

Good work!

Catchy by danmerey 2023-01-10T23:02:14Z

Interesting little game, definitely stands out in terms of style amongst many of the others I've seen so far this LD, and the old-style map feel to it all is pretty cool, though it was intensely difficult to (even with the guide to what the fish looked like!) pick out the types of fish you hadn't caught yet, but I suppose that's like real fishing, fruitless most of the time so it didn't really bother me :)

It would definitely have elevated the experience to have had some gentle sea breeze type ambience when sailing around, but I understand that was probably difficult to cram into a compo deadline like this :D

A little more drifting of the ship would have definitely added a little to the feeling of sailing, but then it would also have made it a little harder to control initially, so alas I guess it's not a clear tradeoff.

Either way, nice work!

Skřítek: The Nemesis of Harvest by kr0k 2023-01-09T22:24:08Z

This is a very cute little game, though the way you accumulate points is a little curious (seems entirely time based?) so if you manage to destroy their houses early, you earn less points than if you end up kiting them around for a long time

The music is really cute though, and definitely solid points for an original theme to it! Love the art too.

Combine Harv-racer by procrasteroid 2023-01-27T19:21:36Z

Playing this game made me feel like I should have leaned into the "combine harvester go zoom" aspect a bit more, lots of fun!

firefox_HPHuXq5KKF.png

And my probably mediocre time! :D

Graveyard Shift by Natiki 2023-01-27T20:51:01Z

Cool little game, I really liked the art and the animation!

Movement also feels pretty slick and definitely ghost-like, it felt a little random when the spirits would get up and run away/scatter though? Was it just on a random timer or was it actually prompted by player action?

Either way it's a pretty cool game, and nice work for your first entry too :) Hope to see you again on LD!

Rot Waits for No One by giuti 2023-01-15T20:53:31Z

This is really solid, and _really stressful_ but yeah seconding what others have said about maybe allowing upgrades and watering more tiles/maybe getting more tiles later?

The game does become basically impossible in later seasons though, and the ramp in difficult is of course something you'd want and it's difficult to balance on a LD deadline so either way, really good work you two!

Still very impressed that looking at how the game is put together there's almost no rough edges visually, sound wise and otherwise (and props for actually being able to return to menu and even having confirmation UI in between!)

Loved the game :)

Extra notes through my lovely girlfriend who also tried it:

* the art is super cute * the mechanics are straightforward, but it doesn't prevent the game from being reasonably challenging * can't really tell what i've put down when planting seeds in tiles

Shred-A-Bunch! by HayriCakir 2023-01-10T23:12:16Z

This is a solid entry, really fun and the music was a perfect fit!

Gotta say though, for this particular game, the combine harvester was more efficient at harvesting sunflowers, but it was way worse at the thing that was most enjoyable in the game, drifting into zombies :D

Great work!

Soul Harvest by twilightrh 2023-01-09T21:59:02Z

Interesting setting, I guess eventually you're supposed to reach some amount of souls harvested at which point you'd get to escape on the rocket? I didn't get that far though, but maybe I was just impatient and there's a few hundred kills left until that moment comes (since I didn't see any indicator in the game for when you'd get to that point)

Nice work!

Unfortunate Harvest by redemptor 2023-01-10T23:46:56Z

Somehow the first platformer I've seen so far, cute art and a fitting little theme to go with it :)

Dark Harvest by JakeJet 2023-01-24T22:10:43Z

Cool little game, really atmospheric and the lighting and art was spot on and the rumbling of the soundscape as you foraged for bits to harvest was a really solid combination!

The Great Harvest of souls by The Erebus 2023-01-10T22:24:04Z

Works pretty well with the time limit, shame about the upgrades being broken though!

Would have been nice to slash in the direction of where the mouse was, as that's the way i found myself trying to pay, navigating with WASD and putting my mouse over my target, getting a little frustrated when slashing in the "wrong" direction, but nice work overall :)

You Will Be Fertiliser. by PuttPuttTheTruck 2023-01-10T22:05:44Z

This was definitely a fresh concept, it's definitely the first game this jam i've seen that has -you- become the fertilizer :D Quite liked the art, and the audio while simple worked really well!

It's a shame there's no web build because I hope as many people as possible try the game :) (you might want to add a little image to your game page too, it helps when people enter this page, if they see a little of what the game looks like, they're slightly more likely to actually download it and try it out)

Good work!

WARVEST by Erivas_Soulares 2023-01-14T00:00:12Z

Interesting game, the slow ramp up of it slowly becoming a bullet hell was quite a lot of fun, though it definitely starts a little slow, adjusting it so you could move faster somehow would make it feel a lot slicker :)

The arcade-ish UI around the game though and the music is :100:

Really solid!
