LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Badger Break-In by Knatt 2021-04-27T18:48:06Z

Absolutely fantastic art style and vibe! The movement and gameplay felt natural and I loved coming across having to lick the honeycombs to jump. That bossfight took a couple of times, but the game had me hooked enough to fight (and lose to it 3 times before winning) it to the end.

Inner Demons by Zettelkasten 2021-04-29T18:30:26Z

After getting down to a depth of 36, I think I get the gameplay loop and it's pretty neat. The level layouts feel like they could use a bit more purpose (looking at you dead end rooms!), and I was confused about what some of the pickups were. It was awesome when I picked up a ranged weapon upgrade, and I really like the level progression map. Other than some quirkiness with enemies, honestly a really nice game!

Chameleon Excavation by NykolaR 2021-04-29T18:43:29Z

As someone who also made a game themed around digging down procedural, this is functionally awesome. The aesthetics are lovely, it runs amazing in browser (save for occasional hiccups) and the mechanics for digging felt good. The only thing I would say was just okay was when the player stepped one block down and it slowed like normal falling; maybe having the chameleon crawl or clamber down the side of a tile quicker if the player has a single block drop would be neat. Otherwise, a really sweet game!

Majula Fall by maaxoom 2021-04-30T14:29:50Z

Love the game, regardless of DS2 PTSD. The aesthetic is nice, and having to find the best ways to get down was a fun experience I've spent the past 20 minutes trying to perfect, definitely one game that gets you hooked trying to reach the end. The only thing I noticed that was occasionally an issue is I'd slide off after just barely landing, and because my momentum wasn't stopped, the next landing damage took out my full health bar. Otherwise, good design and a fun little game!

Orange Diver: The Great Drown by Prostone 2021-04-27T21:17:08Z

A fun little game, I appreciate that the mechanics between the sub and the human needing to separately being managed. The rope was a bit finnicky to try and angle the player for pickups, and the camera pan confused me at one point, but overall a good game!

Boring in the deep by WilhelmStein 2021-04-27T19:49:00Z

Definitely got me chuckling with my friend as we sat down and gave this game a try. I love the drilling visuals and the movement, though I wish the slow down mechanic was a little more useful and allowed faster turning/horizontal speed. Super fun and love the game overall!

Postal Plunge by ModdingMachine 2021-04-27T20:17:45Z

Love the aesthetics for this game and the mechanic of choosing which side to fire. Felt fair throughout the game difficulty wise, loads of variety for a Ludum Dare game, and had lots of fun all the way up to the end. Amazing job!

What do cats dream of ? by Duck Reaction 2021-04-27T19:57:23Z

Everything about this I love. The graphics and feel felt nice, I burst out laughing just smacking the cat down into the food for the first time, and I definitely felt the rush of trying to manage a feline army. An adorable, funny entry that will definitely see me setting time to push the score I got (ended up first try at 11633!)

Alien Abyss by Tom Stephenson 2021-04-27T19:36:34Z

A nice little game that I can easily see myself killing time trying to beat my high score on. The theme also feels really nice and I'd love to see how this would work on something like mobile. My only criticism would be the shooting, I think it'd be neat to have you use the arrow keys for moving and the mouse to aim in a different direction. Overall though a sweet entry!

Whatever It takes by BurnerReborn 2021-04-27T18:28:06Z

The layer shifting mechanic feels awesome to play with, though the difficulty curve with some of the platforming is a bit tough for me. Overall, a nice atmosphere and a super cool idea!

A Jelly Upon the Deep by 0hSlash 2021-04-27T19:28:20Z

I like the simple control scheme and having to rely on controlling your speed with pickups, though it's easy to get out of control if you get too fast. Overall a fun game!

Surface by lb01 2021-04-27T21:34:44Z

This. This game I absolutely love everything about, from the sheer aesthetics to the premise, the dynamic sound, and all as part of the compo it seems absolutely surreal to play. Playing with mouse had some weird side effects, but WASD worked out plenty fine. I wasn't expecting AI to be thrown in and having to do little dog fights to dodge and mine asteroids was awesome. My only criticism is I wish there was even more of this that I could play, simply amazing job!

Erode by EnergizedBlast 2021-04-27T20:41:28Z

After noticing it in a couple comments, I decided to investigate the speed increase comment for after depth 100 and realized I accidentally put "1." instead of ".1", as the depth was intended to only increase 10% per 100 levels instead of a massive *100%*. Apologies for that everyone, the WebGL version should no longer have this error.

Thanks so much for the feedback everybody!

Erode by EnergizedBlast 2021-04-27T21:04:40Z

@tubular Thank you for your feedback, I think the lack of horizontal digging capability is a very valid point. Do you feel there would be a good way to give the player control in that regard?

LD49 — Unstable

Candle Lights by saintheiser 2021-10-05T02:27:44Z

I love the aesthetics of this game especially, FX and sprite work and all. The puzzles were really neat and I could easily see myself playing a couple hours worth of puzzles combined when the light enemy fighting, definitely had a nice feel. The river puzzle confused me at first until about 10 minutes later I realized you can shoot at the rooted one way path you made to reset it, maybe stuff like that could be introduced in a level prior (or maybe I missed that, unsure). Overall love this game man, and it's a SUPER solid mechanic and game all around.

Unstable magic by Mads 2021-10-05T08:11:08Z

A neat entry that I think works really well mechanic wise. I didn't get too far into due to getting stuck and I think there being a bug/invisible enemies/something hurting me randomly, but from what I played the more magic being cast making it stronger yet also more unstable is an idea I especially love.

Steel Coffin by JLV 2021-10-06T01:50:03Z

A nice entry with a neat narrative definitely. I really enjoyed the writing for this and the general idea, though I would have loved to see some sort of way to replenish the resources either by luck or as part of progressing through the game trip by trip, as once you used all the fuel or resources up it's inevitable. That kinda plays into the narrative though, so not a bad thing either way!

Drillte by Yokin 2021-10-06T10:50:02Z

One of the games I did not regret downloading! I was still trying to beat my high score after 30 minutes and the visuals and feeling I get while playing this is just really nice and polished. I like the challenging constraint of prioritizing getting green over blue or vice versa, and then the high risk high reward of dragging a giant (or selectively trimmed out) asteroid and flinging it into the sun in hopes to save time felt awesome. A complete 10/10 from me, the only thing I could possibly suggest is maybe the requirement that the player has dragged/grabbed/touched a given asteroid at least once to prevent issues like a giant red filled asteroid spawning a wee bit too close to the sun, but that's part of it being unstable in a way!

Also looking to see people beat my record :point_right: :point_right: HighScore.png

loop by peterfiftyfour 2021-10-06T10:59:20Z

IMMEDIATELY caught my eyes with the dithering visuals, absolutely in love with them. I appreciate the audio as well as just the overall general vibe the game gave me. The gameplay itself is fun and I love being able to launch up, build a platform under me, or even launching sideways in the air a la rotating and placing a launcher reallllllly quickly under me. Overall a super nice entry that I'd love to see more of the like sometime!

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-05T01:46:56Z

Absolutely solid of an entry, no less a compo! Gameplay wise it started off as deceptively simple, before the mastering of it was demanded on the last couple levels, and that I LOVE. I wasn't expecting to play super hard and to spend the next 15 minutes smashing tables and doing quick flick tricks during it felt awesome. The visuals I dig so much too and it feels really cohesive, definitely something I'd love to learn from sometime. 10/10 from me, even with some of the really hard portions in the last couple levels.Screenshot_5.png

The Mandela Conspiracy by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-10-05T07:15:24Z

A nice short little story of a game, I appreciated reading the writing of this more than anything. It's more of a slight interactive novel, but nonetheless a nice entry writing and visuals wise.

FlipFlopHop by EnergizedBlast 2021-10-05T02:09:16Z

@john-luke-lusty Honestly I had SO MANY more ideas that I didn't get to get in, I'm just glad I got the ending thing at the top and the billboard at the start! The biggest thing I wanted to add for more unstableness was wind physics, but cut that out of scope. Also I was hard debating between making it a penguin or a goat, but the penguin just felt right.

FlipFlopHop by EnergizedBlast 2021-10-05T09:26:30Z

@xhadie I honestly agree simple things really are, I've played it a couple times over myself to try to better my own time (best on record for me is 6:06!) and it's just simplistic in a nice way I feel personally. The penguin had a 50/50 chance of being a goat... buuut I decided hopping works much better for an island/rock"hopper" sorta penguin. It kinda hearkens back to some of my old projects which involve penguins as well!

Wobbly Penguins by bqq 2021-10-07T00:57:29Z

Penguin devs UNITE! Holy crap was I NOT expecting this polished and incredible quality of a game, in aspects visual as well as gameplay wise. I appreciated the twist throughout it and completely threw me through a loop, and I appreciate that acting as another source of the unstable theme. The gameplay in general was honestly enough, but that additional bit and the ending made me just want to see even more out of sheer morbid curiosity. Bonus points for making it run so buttery smooth in the browser too. EASILY an 11/10 from me here, absolutely incredible and would recommend anyone playing this for themselves!

Wavering by xHadie 2021-10-05T08:17:46Z

A nice shorter entry I'd say. Despite it being short, it got me interested to see what exactly the rest of the story was with the bit of intriguing info I got out of it, as well as the whole thing with Mika being in the main character's head. Good job!

Lovecrafting by Concker_88 2021-10-05T08:35:25Z

SUPER satisfying of a game to play! Absolutely love everything being done here design and visually, just spent the past half hour trying to get some of the ones in the compendium. Unfortunately I have a bit of a bug that's plaguing me like one of the earlier comments posted, but otherwise I had a blast playing it and the details overall are super nice, fits the them very well too. 10/10 great entry right here!
