LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Drillromantik by pschichtel 2021-04-29T16:25:51Z

Fun little clicker game, relaxing atmosphere and music. I was hooked on it for quite a while. One thing however, is that when you use your first "copper tool" somewhere other than "copper too production", it seems to get stuck with no way of producing more copper tools and every other building needing copper tools to upgrade. I think a bit of tweaking on what resources are needed to produce what. I could also imagine the forests having something like a click limit to show that you'd have to destroy forests in order to upgrade your town/facility, but that's a narrative thing that wouldn't matter too much. Nice work!

You Killed Someone by RetroSpecter 2021-04-29T17:59:11Z

This. As a fan of detective games and conspiring to pull off nefarious plans, I loved this game. It was brilliant playing as a reverse-detective, noting all the information you can get and using them to your advantage. Killing those who know your lies the first. The typewriter sounds and the animations for the text was excellent in setting the tense mood. The 'joke' categories, however, sort of killed the mood for me. I would have liked a bit more realistic settings, as well as maybe a bit of information on where all this is happening to fit in with the narrative. I can see this as a full game with more options, and maybe an 'action phase' where you actually do the killing and take care of/plant evidence. Lovely game and awesome job!

Depth Gauge by Solrun 2021-04-28T15:34:40Z

Expected Minecraft after looking at the thumbnail, found just Mine. But don't take it negatively! I actually like that there is no crafting system. I don't have to stress myself over what resource to dig for and just D I G. I was pleasantly surprised at how you implemented mining "inwards". Although it's a bit difficult to see in a 2D view, it added more depth (literally) and provided more options. I do wish the sound and controls were a bit better, though. The sound of digging felt a little annoying after some time, and the sound of roping in was also jarring. Solid experience overall. With some tweaking on the visuals and sound, I think you've got a nice time sinker made.

Just Fishin' by Antti Haavikko 2021-04-29T17:10:34Z

Came because of the nice looking graphics, stayed for the fish. There seemed to be a bit of an issue initiating the fishing, as the player kind of moved around all jittery around the lake. I think it might be a mismatch of the click hitbox. It was on web build, but sort of went away after the second or third time it happened, so I guess it's not a huge issue. The balance between the sound effects and music were a bit tilted to the music side, but a volume slider would fix that easily. It kind of reminded me of Animal Crossing as I fished around. Overall great game to play while chilling. Also, nice polish for a game made in such a short time!

Krakonsequence by JudgeZedd 2021-04-28T14:51:03Z

I bust out laughing from the intro. 10/10 In all seriousness, it feels like a fun little twin stick shooter variant. The kraken feels very heavy, as expected from such a chonky boi, but still gains momentum that allows it to move around quite nicely. One feature I would like to see is the kraken breaching water and up into the air, full great white shark-style. That could also allow for airborne enemies like choppers. Awesome work!

The Depths of Science by Trusty 2021-04-29T16:33:17Z

Nice work! Though for me, the mouse sensitivity was waay to high and had to manually adjust it. It would have been nice to have an option to adjust that, but with the timeframe, I'm not disappointed that there isn't one. Once I got that sorted out, however, it was a neat little horror fps. Horror *or* shooters aren't exactly my cup of tea, but I could definitely appreciate the work that was put into it. So as a token of respect, I grit my teeth and played till the end. With a bit more polish and maybe some introduction of narrative, I could see this released as a full game. Great game!

The Depths of Science by Trusty 2021-04-29T17:01:14Z

@trusty Oh, I'm sorry, it somehow must have passed right under my nose! After reading your comment I tried the slider and it's much better. It still feels a bit high fore me, but I don't see anyone commenting on the same issue, so it's probably just a problem on my end. Maybe it was because I was playing on web build? Anyway, thanks for the heads-up! I guess I was too nervous when playing to notice the option, which I guess in turn is a statement in itself on how you managed to nail the tense atmosphere.

MENACING MINER by Divagated 2021-04-29T16:39:36Z

Fun game! I played this for a good bit more than I expected to, and the idea was neat. A little bit of feedback that I would like to give is to make the hits a bit more satisfying(maybe with screen shake and all that kaboodle), and maybe some variations to the weapon as well as enemies. The core idea around this game is solid, so with a bit more polish and content, it would become a wonderful time sinker game perhaps on mobile or more.

Physics Breaking Boxes by Temulgeh 2021-04-28T17:15:47Z

Adorable graphics, amazing idea, chill music in one game? Yes please. I could see this becoming as brain-melting as Baba Is You, and with a Recursed feel(it's also a great puzzle game on recursion, check it out on Steam if you haven't already). The implications of your mechanic is hard to put in words, but elegantly explained by the levels. Outstanding entry. I really hope you go for a full release on this idea.

Substrate Mining Co. by Steve Dragon 2021-04-29T16:13:29Z

I'm all about well made walking simulators, and this just might be the best one I've seen on this jam yet. The atmosphere was great, and the artwork and music went along quite nicely. The narrative was short but personal which added to the air of mystery, but you can still piece together the whole narrative without too much blank spaces. The "leave anytime you want" was also a plus, as actually encouraged me to walk around more. Amazing work and props to everyone on your team!

What Happened in Addison's Grotto by Junebug 2021-04-28T15:47:14Z

Awesome entry! The atmosphere was just perfect. It felt like Stories Untold, with a dash of Her Story because of the mechanics. I don't know if it was intended, but I managed to get stuck in a loop of the same words over and over. Nevertheless, this kind of atmosphere was not what I expected from the theme. The implications that the words themselves give the player are very impactful. The related words generation may need a little tweaking, but I find this idea immensely intriguing. Great work.

What Happened in Addison's Grotto by Junebug 2021-04-28T16:30:55Z

@junebug same for me. "Travelling" got me stuck with no other options

The bomble mines by pune007 2021-04-29T15:46:29Z

Nice game! Tight controls and good levels. The only thing that I might do differently would be to have some sort of visual indication of how high your jump will go when you step on the bombs. As far as I know, there are two types of bombs : one that sends you higher about 3~4 times than your default jump, and one that sends you about twice as high. I think it would be more fitting for a precision platformer if you could differentiate one from the other; I found it a bit hard sometimes to gauge my jump. The character feels a bit heavy, but its movement and physics are consistent so it doesn't matter too much. Overall great job! I also found the black and white pixel style graphics endearing.

memories.io - A Living Painting by NamidaSai 2021-04-28T16:40:47Z

I never thought triangles and squares would make me feel emotional. But it did. I really like the way you set the atmosphere, and the one-liners at the game over scene really drove it home. One little nit I have to pick is that I didn't quite grasp on how to survive longer, and maybe a short intro sequence would have made it a bit better. Other than that, great work!

crypt fiasco by daheer 2021-04-28T16:51:06Z

Smooth and tight controls, great music, and overall great experience. I enjoyed the platforming and combat, everything was super satisfying to do. One complaint I do have is for the spikes to maybe instakill the player, as spike pits don't seem to have a way out and could feel a bit frustrating as you can do nothing but watch your character take damage *then* die. Except for that, I loved the game. Great work!

Putaverunt by Spacespytv 2021-04-28T16:25:50Z

Nice job with setting the mood, and with tight controls! I somehow managed to push my buttons exactly in sync with the music for the first 4 notes, and honestly thought your movement made the music happen. I was awed for a second and half :P I also would have liked to see checkpoints, and maybe a bit faster speed for the player, but this might be just me. Overall, neat game and nice job!

Deep into the Forest by Collin Visser 2021-04-29T17:18:52Z

Nice twin stick shooter! I liked the art style, but had a little trouble discerning the colors; I had to wander around for some time in the first room before I found the door. I also love that the bird unironically starts with a gun and goes "Aight, time to go Rambo". A bit of nitpicking : it would be nice for a hit animation for the player as well as the enemy - also health bars could help. The sound effects were nice, though a tad loud. Good work!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-28T14:35:36Z

Hey @dergamer - thanks for the feedback! It was my first time publishing a game with Unity, and I still haven't entirely mastered managing the screen resolution. I hope it wasn't too annoying for you, and I have no idea where the sound bug may have come from. I'll try to keep those things in mid going forward. I'm glad you liked my game and thanks again!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-28T14:38:02Z

@fatebreak - Yes, the undo is a bit wonky, as I completed its code just before I finished the game. This left me very little time to test and debug. As for the portals, you can get information by exploring the world (hint : check for the top left part of the world) - I'm glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-28T14:39:28Z

Hi @judgezedd - I'm really happy that you liked my game! I meant to have a little intro/tutorial sequence, but had to cut it due to time restrictions. It was my first game jam game and wasn't very confident in my work, but getting this sort of compliment means the world to me. Thanks for playing!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-28T15:50:03Z

@romanempire Thanks for the compliment! I was originally planning on the limit to be 100 steps, and make more features and zones like health pools and enemies that push you a certain distance. The time limit made it impossible for me to do so, and I had to settle for a quick demo-like experience that shows the core idea around this game. Thanks for playing!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-28T15:52:13Z

@habibirb Having to restart, take a look around, and learn where you are was one of the main points for the game. However, I do agree that I could have made it easier to understand from the get-go. I wasn't able to make a tutorial due to time constraints, but I'm glad you liked the game. I'll try to make some concepts easier to understand going forward. Much appreciated for the feedback!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-28T15:53:58Z

@pschichtel Sound and art is not my strong suit, and I wound up making only the simplest effects :p Maybe next time I'll have more time left to invest on some nice music. Thanks for playing!

@glorbax thank you very much!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-28T16:01:28Z

@trusty @cubanfrog Yes! I'm glad you got the motivation! I loved Baba is You, but unfortunately I'm not quite that intelligent to make good puzzles. The point on the word puzzles I agree to some part - they do feel a bit out of place, but I wanted to introduce some narrative into the game, however small it may be. But yes, they do feel awkward - maybe I'll learn some better way to organically do narratives later on. Thanks for playing!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-28T16:05:48Z

@core69 Haha, I was originally planning it to be 100 steps, but had to cut content. Maybe I'll continue on with the idea.

@3dflow I definitely took inspiration from both! Thanks for playing :)

@divagated You'll have to find out what answer the monster wants. Explore around! Maybe you'll stumble into something you didn't know already

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-28T16:56:18Z

@antti-haavikko Thanks for your feedback! Though it seems like you're making out the word puzzles to be a bit to difficult for yourself, (hint: it's a lot more *literal*) it's probably my fault as they are a bit awkward and rather poorly done. I also did not expect the box to be pushed all the way over there, the intended route uses the portals and that would probably be the reason you though it was the only path. I'm pretty sure I know where that bug comes from, but I'm not too sure I could fix it without causing a bunch of problems. But I'll try! Thanks for the feedback!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-29T06:38:58Z

@junebug I am aware of the sound issue, but could not find why it happened, but another person commented that it wasn't in the windows build so I'm suspecting that something happened while unity was building the web version. Thanks for playing!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-30T03:41:21Z

@crow-seeds the key is to explore around! I'm glad you liked it and thanks for your feedback.

@t-c oops, it completely slipped my mind while developing, I hope it wasn't too big of an inconvenience. Thanks for the feedback!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-04-30T09:18:16Z

@namidasai Thanks for the nice comment! I agree that the word puzzles are probably the worst bit of design in this game (not including the art, sound or bugs I guess). I'm not sure if I'll continue on to make a post-jam version of this yet, but I'll be sure to keep those things in mind if I do. And yes, I spent a good ten hours trying to make the level layout so that you are tantalizingly close to the end but can't make it if your moves aren't efficient to the max  I'm glad you liked it!

50 Step Treasure Hunt by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-05-16T05:42:37Z

@neowedge Thank you for the compliment!

Submarine Bean by Icoso 2021-04-28T16:16:56Z

Normally, I hate water in games. It's wet, it's cold, and it gets everywhere. This game, however, has none of the things I despise about water levels. The controls are tight, the physics don't have that annoying drift, and there are no bonkers size fish that chase you around and try to eat you. Fun little experience, and my only little gripe is that I would have liked to see more mechanics introduced. But it's a jam, so I get that it probably would have been difficult Satisfying experience. Good job!

Am I only dreaming? by DerGamer 2021-04-28T15:06:15Z

Nice concept! I really liked the somewhat melancholic atmosphere. It felt sort of like Limbo and Inside, bit more peaceful. Maybe it was my screen resolutions, but there were a couple of 'leap of faith's which may be an issue. I got myself stuck on the box level, but somehow managed to walljump my way over it - but still was enjoyable nonetheless. Really good work on the atmosphere!

Pond-zi Scheme by Fatebreak 2021-04-28T14:55:55Z

This. I was thinking about debt when I first saw the theme and oh boy, do I wish I had come up with an idea like yours. The color scheme makes it a little straining for the eyes, but everything else seemed very finely executed. The feeling of desperately grabbing at straws is real in this one. Nice game!

P.S. I don't think I'd make a good corporate CEO. I'm *very* bad at making money.

Memare by jogo 2021-04-28T15:24:51Z

It's been said a number of times, but awesome work on the sound design! I feel like with a bit more context on the narrative, this could make for a powerful experience - in the form of something like a walking simulator. I guess it would be a diving simulator in this case? The use of the harpoon wasn't too clear for me, I just used it to shoot at sharks, but they didn't seem to want to attack me - that made me feel bad a bit. But I actually like it this way. The existence of sharks are enough to make me feel tense, but less combat (or less *chaotic* combat) made me more focused on the diver's story. What truth were they diving for? What happened in the sunken ship? It's a short but impactful experience. Well done!

Mole Hole by Swoof 2021-04-28T17:28:11Z

The game seemed to have gone into an infinite loop when I had one block of ground left and two bridges. Other than that, this makes for a neat little puzzler and time sinker. It feels like it could be up there with 2048 on the App Store. It's also quite hard to optimize your moves, so there's a lot of room for strategizing on what gem to get next and where to go. Fun game! I had a blast playing this one

LD49 — Unstable

Lizzie's Lucky Potion Shop by celia14 2021-10-05T08:07:27Z

Cute art, solid gameplay loop and easy to understand design! I do have a few nitpicks with the jackpot feature though. Maybe a more skill-based phase to determine the quality of the potion (e.g. stirring or brewing) would have made the experience more enjoyable. Nevertheless, I found myself going bankrupt trying to get a 3-star slime potion recipe while my friend laughed from the sidelines very enjoyable. Great work!

SEXY BOOBY 95 by silkworm_sweatshop 2021-10-05T06:54:30Z

Called it. The moment I saw the title, I 100% called the ending. Did it ruin the experience? No. In fact, it made it all the more enjoyable, thinking of a clueless adolescent trying to find something -ahem- stimulating.

Would love to see this expanded as a multi-ending game, a bit like The Stanley Parable, where the desktop or icons and such would reference the last ending the player saw.

Awesome experience! Great job on this one

Pocobot's Obligation by bitdecay 2021-10-05T08:47:36Z

Awesome puzzle game! The interactions were a bit hard to grasp at first, but I was absorbed the moment it clicked. One little nitpick I have is the desire for an "undo" button to undo my last action. It feels a little unfair when I had the solution, but one missed input means I have to do it all over again. Aside from that, absolutely wonderful puzzles. I had a great time wracking my brain. Great entry! Congratulations on making it!

Ludumium by blaster391 2021-10-06T06:47:29Z

You know, people say these games are rage-inducing. But I on the other hand, find them strangely chill... Oh, who am I kidding. I was absolutely screaming in frustration by the second level. But the half-rage half-funny and three seconds later you're laughing bitterly at yourself kind of screaming. It's like playing Getting Over It in science class. Good game!

Block'd by JPiolho 2021-10-05T09:07:24Z

Perhaps my favorite game of this jam I've played so far! The twists with the glitches make the usual tetris experience so much more hectic, and the graphics are smooth, music doesn't get too repetitive. The leaderboard was a masterful touch, now this is the only thing I want to play. But alas, I need to rate other games so goodbye for now. Awesome entry! Had a lot of fun그림1.png

Block'd by JPiolho 2021-10-05T09:07:54Z

The Blue Bedroom by SplitPainter 2021-10-06T07:22:32Z

I remember reading your posts after the jam started. Today I thought, 'hmm, wonder how that Gogh game is doing' and boom, there it was in the games list. Naturally, I had to try it. Though I'm not a huge fan of art, I do appreciate art games, and this one is top notch. The serene atmosphere, somehow nostalgic feeling, and yet a little sad and frightening at the same time. It was like playing that Cube Escape game based on Gogh (Cube Escape : Arles I think), but much calmer and less of the scare factor. I also really liked the painting 'secrets' in the game. Nice job!

Deck Bomber by Britt Henderson 2021-10-05T06:41:20Z

Came here because I liked your LD48 entry - and was not disappointed. The gameplay is simple but has surprising depth of strategy. The graphics and humorous sounds are all a plus in making this a simple and fun experience. My only gripe is that the AI is a bit too easy to beat, but hey, strategy games and AI are a hard pair to do. Loved the game! Hope you make a full release, or at least a board game out of this!

Skew Pong by Vladadamm 2021-10-05T09:15:21Z

I've played Pong, I've played badly made Pong, I've played Pong that I've programmed and crashed immediately, but I've never played 3D Pong. I think it's also the first time I ever cursed audibly at a Pong AI. It's nearly impossible to predict the course of the ball and react in time, which makes it all the better. Craziest Pong I've played in my life, and perhaps the best Pong. Solid graphics and music to add taste to the experience. 10/10 would force my friends to play this game.

Spelldraft by patrickalfa 2021-10-05T08:19:25Z

Nice risk-point managing game! The card interactions added a new wrinkle to the game (one that my smooth brain had a hard time following) I'd like a few tutorial levels that explain how the points work by gameplay. Still a nice experience! good job!

A Long Way Home by Alexascher 2021-10-05T07:24:44Z

그림1.png Nice game! I loved the artwork. The music was a tad loud for me, but not to the point that it annoyed me. The somewhat roguelike aspects of the ship's upgrades were a nice touch for replayability. I was expecting things to get a lot more hectic when it ended, so I think there's room to make it a bit longer, with more hazards and some general addition of 'omg I gotta do this but I also gotta do that' craziness. Loved your take on the theme. Great work!

Unstable by Guardaro 2021-10-06T06:32:03Z

Nicely written and great narration too! I could definitely see how this becomes a choose-your-own-adventure game, and I like the premise. I hope you continue and finish it after the jam. As for being too ambitious and getting too little done... That makes two of us. I made a little text-based game myself, but had too little time to flesh it out, much like you did. Enjoyed the story! It was like listening to a Nosleep podcast.

Unstable Friends 🙃 by Entropea 2021-10-05T08:13:28Z

The first mobile game I had the pleasure of playing as a game jam entry! Clean cute graphics and solid physics make it very enjoyable, even as a person with *very shaky* hands. I could see this becoming a casual trend for mobile gamers if you go for a full release (and please do) Congratulations on the entry!

WobblyWords by Dannyk1994 2021-10-06T07:56:11Z

Nice game! My first impression was "it's scrabble with tetris" Then it became more of "oh no no no why is this not a word" I have a few issues with the gameplay, and it feels a little too unforgiving. The boxes fall out a little too early, there are way too many vowels spawning. I still like the concept, and I can definitely see this going someplace. Great job!

Unstable Concoction by itsatony 2021-10-06T07:29:01Z

"Last Minute Edition" and yet you bring some full-time editions (such as my game) to shame. I really liked the throw/catch mechanic, it's simple, unique but has potential for speedrunning type of mastery with how you throw and catch the potion. One little nitpick I have is that clicking the 'Resume' button seems to throw the potion right at the start of the level... Not really annoyed, I kind of burst out laughing when I thought of Juliet making it through a level just to throw it on the ground going 'Nope, I'm out! I'm done!' Graphics and sounds could use a little polish, but hey, I don't really care too much for polish in a jam game. Great work!

Harry by Owl_Skip 2021-10-06T07:13:45Z

Great presentation and great writing! Although I managed to get myself softlocked when I started the second therapy session (I think I may have clicked on "Therapy" multiple times, causing it) I liked the atmosphere it was bringing. The lack of visuals were somehow better at giving me an image of what was happening, it really felt like I was talking to a computer screen. Great work!

Number Fission by Escapade 2021-10-06T16:03:53Z

Ingenious and unique idea, and you executed wonderfully! I really like this concept! As others have said, I'd also like a local high score mechanism in place. Other than that, I have no complaints whatsoever. I'm also a bit certain that this game is mathematically solvable, but my brain is too smooth and I am to lazy to go in that deep. It's games like these that show time and time again, simple is best. Great work!

The Mandela Conspiracy by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-10-05T06:08:27Z

@sasha-v Hi! Sorry for the late reply, but the links seem to be working fine for me (and others). Maybe it was an issue with the Itch servers? If it still doesn't work, let me know!

The Mandela Conspiracy by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-10-05T06:10:22Z

@silkworm-sweatshop Hello! I would have liked to expand the story and gameplay further but the time limit was a bit tight. Thanks for playing!

The Mandela Conspiracy by Not_AS_Artistic 2021-10-05T13:01:30Z

@sasha-v I think I temporarily took the game down right after it was published to see if it was the right version, maybe it had something to do with that. Anyways, thank you for the lovely comment! Juice or mechanics aren't my strong suit, so I try to go narrative. The critique on the lack of content, also pointed out by @daniel-vardimon and @energizedblast, I wholeheartedly agree with. I had this idea of a text-based game using anagrams (the words themselves becoming unstable), and I wasted too much time on trying to make that work. If I hadn't, I'd have added more worldbuilding, maybe multiple endings, and some spoopy moments for y'all to enjoy. Thanks for playing!

A Hard Pill to Swallow by osh.studio 2021-10-05T06:47:26Z

Challenging, humorous, a bit rage-inducing, but fun to the end. The sound effects remind me of old cartoons, the gameplay is nicely polished. Loved it! I predicted a lot of golf-like games to be submitted but this just might be my favorite out of those!
