I am very happy to see that the models were made from scratch. Lots of creativity! The high kick attack from the pink guy had me laughing. There's something goofy yet creepy about the scientist models, it kinda look like they're having a bad hair day but it's kinda freaky. I like the keycard + elevator level model, goes well with the jam theme. I got stuck on the level where you had to kill the giant eye to get the key card, I wasn't aware it was killable and I wandered around for a bit. Other than that it was pretty smooth sailing. Fun game!

cheeks 2021-04-27 00:31

Thank you so much @wheffle for the comment, I'm glad you thought that model was funny/goofy, that was the goal for that enemy (and also because by that point I just couldn't deal with making another hand or foot, so hard).

scott-steffes 2021-04-27 02:44

You said webgl hasn't been tested, so no points off, but just FYI the mouse sensitivity was massively boosted, making it very very difficult to play. Otherwise, it seemed to run fine! I'm impressed with your models! And the elevator system was actually really impressive :)

khelian 2021-04-27 12:37

Nice little game! The mouse sensitivity is weird, even after setting it, but it's nice that you put the option to set it! It was a bit annoying, playing with an azerty keyboard, to have to switch from the arrows to e, but at least the arrows are a possibility.

On the particularly nice side, I really like the goofy tone, from taekwondoblin to the scientists. The green-tentacle-tongue monsters are both funny and creepy, it's cool.

No glitch sighted on either webgl and windows.

PS: You can very easily cheese enemies by staying behind them.

cheeks 2021-04-27 12:52

Thanks for your feedback @scott-steffes and @khelian ! I'm glad you liked the models, the green one with the tongue was my favorite to make. Glad to hear the webgl version is working well.

llaumegui 2021-04-27 13:00

The mouse Sensitivity is way too high on the WebGL build, however that's a nice take on the theme !

trusty 2021-04-27 14:30

Thanks for the comments everyone. Glad to hear most of WebGL is working better than in our testing. @scott-steffes , @llaumegui , as others have mentioned there is a mouse sensitivity slider in the settings menu that should help out with that. I appreciate the feedback though, in future projects I'll set per-build default sensitivity settings to make it work better from the start.

copito 2021-04-27 17:59

this worked fine as a basic shooter, it would have been nice to have some kind of unique gimmick but it all worked fine for me and i completed it. I was really impressed with the animations especially on the scientist zombie. That must have been a ton of work for 3 days!

tom-stephenson 2021-04-27 19:59

Congrats on making your first 3D game! You matched the theme well with the elevator taking you deeper into research facility I loved the enemies; they were some really funky designs that gave the game a fun but still tense atmosphere! Great job!

itsonrandom 2021-04-27 20:59

Did not realise this was a horror game at first so when the first enemy walked up behind me it was terrifying! Pink monster on the 2nd floor is glorious too. Good fun game!

curtis-pelissier 2021-04-27 21:08

I laught so hard at those pink enemies   Thank you for that!

Some points to modify: - On a certain rotation, the camera speed up too fast horizontally - It lacks of feedbacks SFX and background musics - A little information somewhere to tell the player if he got the card of the level - Remove the "ctrl left" binding on the Fire

Congrats for you first 3D though :)

tieffeline 2021-04-27 21:08

Awesome 3D models !

cheeks 2021-04-27 21:31

@tieffeline thanks! @itsonrandom and @curtis-pelissier glad you like the pink monsters, we were cracking up when they were animated making this too.

psv-games-studio 2021-04-27 22:54

I liked the game and the animations, but the game crashed several times and I ended up falling into the void, but this is due to the fact that the game is a bit heavy for my pc, I wanted to enjoy the game better but unfortunately i can't. : (

cheeks 2021-04-27 22:57

Hey @psv-games-studio would you mind letting me know more about your computer, since we didn't have this issue in any testing

trusty 2021-04-27 23:18

@psv-games-studio Yeah, as @cheeks said I'd be interested to hear more about your computer/what version you tried. Considering it runs in WebGL (the issues with that build are mostly mouse sensitivity issues and not collision detection or slowdowns) I'm hard pressed to find the game "heavy". Were you using one of the untested mac/linux builds? If so I'd recommend giving the WebGL version a try.

psv-games-studio 2021-04-27 23:53

Hello I tested the installable version for windows, my pc is a positive notebook with intel celeron, 500 gb hd and 4gb ran memory. I believe that it is not an error of the game, but because my pc does not support to run it.

trusty 2021-04-28 00:37

@psv-games-studio Thanks for the info! Sorry it didn't work out. Hope you can have some fun playing some of the other awesome games in the competition!

korfi 2021-04-28 13:01

The graphics and mood the game created was really nice! I always get surprised when there's so much content in a game jam-game - so many different enemies, floors, animations. Really nice game overall!

Also, as somebody that usually plays fps-games with a much lower sensitivity than others, the sensitivity slider was really nice to have!

hpa97 2021-04-28 13:56

Fun shooting game, a bit difficult with mouse sensitivity on html even when adjusting sensitivity. The monsters was very freaky and had solid animations. The ammo was a bit scarce, but I was able to finish the game with that in mind skipping some enemies. A great entry, gj!

jonathan-turner 2021-04-28 16:55

Nice to see a 3D entry.

I dont know if this is a unity thing, but even though I was actively in the scene i still had a mouse cursor over it which was distracting.

I also didnt really understand what we were doing other than shoot zombies.

Before I realized we were fighting zombie things, I was preparing to come comment that the body on the desk was wiggling but I guess it makes sense now :)

Nice job.

trusty 2021-04-28 17:09

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, we'll definitely use it to make even better games in the future.

@korfi glad you got good use of the slider, I think most people don't even notice it.

@hpa97 yeah we've seen some feedback that on some browsers/machines the mouse is weird on WebGL, for that reason we mostly recommend the windows build which seems to be more reliably smooth. We tried to keep the ammo scarce so you couldn't just run through everything shooting and had to take risks with melee.

@jonathan-turner Hmm which version were you using? At least for the machines we had access to for testing in the jam we didn't see any issue with the mouse not properly disappearing (after clicking on the screen) on WebGL or windows other than when it should be there for menus. As for the motivation, as the description describes the science experiment went awry and you're clearing the facility to avoid them escaping. We maybe could have made that more clear in game. Glad you enjoyed it!

jonathan-turner 2021-04-28 17:13

I went back and tried again, maybe I was going crazy the first time. Cursor disappeared fine. Dont mind me!

Well done :)

kassymov-iran 2021-04-28 17:22

The game itself is not finished, but I actually enjoyed the atmosphere!

made3 2021-04-28 17:24

Dwight would be mad about the stapler!

trusty 2021-04-28 17:30

@kassymov-iran I'm not sure what you mean? Could you elaborate? The game has multiple levels to explore and a lose as well as victory condition when you make it to the final area (or die along the way).

@made3 Haha yeah, hopefully he doesn't try to eat his way through, the slime may have some unexpected effects!

boxedmeatrevolution 2021-04-28 17:31

I was really enjoying this game, but I get stuck in the elevator on floor B3. The door opens, but I can't walk through it . I tried a couple times, and in both cases I got stuck in the elevator there. I was playing the windows build.

I like what I experienced though! A fun horror-exploration game, with really unique monsters. I really jumped at the start when I grabbed the first keycard and then turned to see an abomination on my left. Great entry!

nyanpierre 2021-04-28 17:32

Great game !

kassymov-iran 2021-04-28 17:36

@trusty I meant that game needs some finishing touches, also I couldn't figure out how to use elevator. Maybe I'm dumb idk

trusty 2021-04-28 17:43

@boxedmeatrevolution Thanks for the feedback. I went back into the game to see if the elevator being lower than the floor for the level like it is on some floors was messing with the character controller on your machine and it seeing it as too high of a step to traverse, but that's actually one of the more lined up floors. Any tips for reproducing the bug so I can find a fix?

@kassymov-iran Aw man, don't think that way about yourself! Sorry we didn't make it clear enough. You need to find the keycard thats on that level (for the lobby its on the desk next to the scientist). Once you have that then aim at the keycard swiper in the elevator and hit e to interact. After that select which card you want to swipe. That unlocks the button for the next floor (turns green). Then hit e to interact with the newly activated button. Glad you enjoyed the atmosphere though. Thanks for giving it a try!

boxedmeatrevolution 2021-04-28 17:57

B3.PNG B3_stuck.PNG

I don't think I'm doing anything weird. I get every item (except the health pack on B1), and can get to B3 without taking damage or shooting. But I can't walk through the door into B3. First image shows what it looks like after the door opens, second image is how far I can walk forward until my character stops. I can walk back into the elevator, but I can't get out. I have gotten to this point in the game 4 times and it happened every time. Sorry that I don't have any other info!

trusty 2021-04-28 18:18

@boxedmeatrevolution Thanks for looking into it more. I uploaded a new version to itch for windows labeled "TDOSWindowsColliderFix". If you're still interested please give it a try. Don't really have other ideas at this time for a fix if it doesn't work. Otherwise, thanks for playing!

boxedmeatrevolution 2021-04-28 19:52

@trusty Unfortunately that did not fix the windows build for me

But, I decided to play the web build, and that one worked! The doors were still a bit "sticky", but I was able to make it to the end and destroy the big purple boss.

hijomo 2021-04-28 20:07

This is a massive effort. Lots of different enemies many different environments. I also got stuck on the B3 elevator for a while on the HTML5 version. Great work.

zessirb 2021-04-28 20:18

Creepy 3d models! unsettling, well done

blue-pin-studio 2021-04-29 02:36

Great submission! The first LD48 game i've played to the end! Really good job on the 3D models and concepts :D

junebug 2021-04-29 04:40

I'm really impressed that this was your first time doing 3D! The gameplay was a little repetitive, but I enjoyed how each level was themed differently to keep them interesting and memorable. I got jump-scared by the first scientist in the reception area pretty bad, which was great. One other specific feedback would be it felt a little odd to have the enemy melee attacks make sound even when they didn't hit me or a wall. Not the most important, but it was something I noticed. Great job!

not-as-artistic 2021-04-29 16:33

Nice work! Though for me, the mouse sensitivity was waay to high and had to manually adjust it. It would have been nice to have an option to adjust that, but with the timeframe, I'm not disappointed that there isn't one. Once I got that sorted out, however, it was a neat little horror fps. Horror *or* shooters aren't exactly my cup of tea, but I could definitely appreciate the work that was put into it. So as a token of respect, I grit my teeth and played till the end. With a bit more polish and maybe some introduction of narrative, I could see this released as a full game. Great game!

trusty 2021-04-29 16:54

@not-as-artistic Thanks for playing, glad you were able to make it through! There actually is a mouse sensitivity slider in the menu (along with volume sliders). Sorry we didn't make it more obvious.

not-as-artistic 2021-04-29 17:01

@trusty Oh, I'm sorry, it somehow must have passed right under my nose! After reading your comment I tried the slider and it's much better. It still feels a bit high fore me, but I don't see anyone commenting on the same issue, so it's probably just a problem on my end. Maybe it was because I was playing on web build? Anyway, thanks for the heads-up! I guess I was too nervous when playing to notice the option, which I guess in turn is a statement in itself on how you managed to nail the tense atmosphere.

gyemelmor 2021-04-29 20:20

It is a really fun game. Maybe you have to review some colliders, but really good job!

joedev 2021-04-30 09:25

Really good job for your first ever 3D game! The assets and the animations were good, and the environment art was pretty good too - I liked the weird goo and tentacles all over the place!

The gameplay itself was pretty basic, but a solid simple FPS that felt easy to control and good to handle. I think the shooting could have had a bit more 'juice' or feedback, but it was satisfying. I love that you had a good range of unique cool enemies (including a very thicc purple demon?) and included a boss fight! Very cool to do within a jam.

The level layouts were interesting too, and I liked that you set up a few 'scares' like having the cages open behind the player, or the monster appearing in the first level.

Good job!

felo07 2021-05-05 21:40

hey I dont know if its because im playing on Web Version, but the mouse is VERY sensitive. Also I got a jumpscare with the first zombie at reception! hhahaha it looks agreat game, but i couldnt play a lot because of the sensitive. You can also add some music, its great for those kind of games

cheeks 2021-05-05 23:53

@felo07 There's a sensitivity slider in the options, but yes the webgl version has a much higher mouse sensitivity and it's smoother in my experience on the windows download.

larsdu 2021-05-07 05:12

Very ambititious. I also attempted an FPS last ludum dare, and I found you need to use compiler flags to make the mouse sensitivity lower in webgl.

juako 2021-05-15 04:18

Wow, a lot of work for just a jam. Had I fun time playing it. Best of luck!
