Really fun and relaxing game

juliuscube-arcade 2021-04-26 19:18

Really liked the game! although the sprites looked like they were drwn in MS Paint (this isn't an insult), It has a certain style to it that I really liked! my favorite part was the transition from the happier soundtrack near the surface, to the deep down dark deep down soundtrack of the deep. One thing you should do is make the background scroll and repeat seamlessly.

internetpaulicy 2021-04-26 19:44

This is a great game. All of the elements of the game are done so nicely. I can imagine that there were a few late evenings! The world is super alive and teeming with things to look at. I can not make it to the bottom yet but I will try my best.

robbzenone 2021-04-26 19:44

Nice Idea :) A little bit slow but very relaxing!

kuviman 2021-04-26 19:57

Very nice game, but I wish I could go faster

galina 2021-04-26 20:25

nice game! but i couldnt found diver's live. and for true - it could be a bit faster.

janures 2021-04-27 08:34

Thanks for all the comments! Love them, appreciate the feedback! Going down faster and a perfection of the 400m scene will be updated for the game, as we do want to polish it, but for LD48 it is what we were able to make during the weekend  We had a great time creating the game.

rein 2021-04-27 08:49

Love the art. I just wish I had control over the camera. Also, it's really easy for the diver to start swinging uncontrollably.

blanky-and-rocket 2021-04-27 10:30

10/10 windmilled my diver much to his misfortune.

finn-tr 2021-04-27 10:52

Really nice and relaxing game! I really like the art style and atmosphere, the dangling diver is a very unique and fun idea. Awesome work!!

skelleroznik 2021-04-27 17:06

Very relaxing game. The art style is a real selling point of the game. It's just beautiful and I love it. Controls take some time to get used to, but when you do, you have fun. Enjoyed playing this amazing game.

kypello 2021-04-27 17:18

This is really cool! The rope physics are done well and I like how you have to swing the diver around to collect bubbles and stuff. Also I love how it gets darker the deeper you get and you have to use your lights to see, it fits very well with the theme. The visuals and audio are also very good. Overall a fun game!

energizedblast 2021-04-27 21:17

A fun little game, I appreciate that the mechanics between the sub and the human needing to separately being managed. The rope was a bit finnicky to try and angle the player for pickups, and the camera pan confused me at one point, but overall a good game!

ambeurk 2021-04-27 21:23

Poor diver...I slammed him against soooo many rocks xD

I loved the game, it's both fun and relaxing... and the art and atmosphere are touching (the lighting really add something) <3

tarfield 2021-04-27 21:50

It was a bit slow as others have said, except for that I liked the mechanic with the rope (although that was a bit frustrating when I couldn't make the diver grab a heart before it disappeared) and the music and art is good!

wheffle 2021-04-27 22:46

The level of art detail is pretty amazing. That combined with the music created a great ambient. Babysitting the diver on a rope was a nice twist, definitely keeps you busy. When it gets really dark it's hard to see powerups in time to snag them, it might have been nice to be able to see powerups through the darkness. I suppose that is a design decision though. Good entry, had fun!

webox 2021-04-28 01:25

Why wouldn't they let the diver in!!! Those submarine jerks! haha. Great game!! Art and SFXs are superb, the entire mood of the game in fact is very very pleasing. The main mechanic is very interesting, makes you keep occupied in two things at the same time which is very cool. Very well presented, very well executed and a fun and original idea. Great job!! :D

vsi 2021-04-28 08:27

liked the art, nice concept, gj!

2021-04-28 10:10

Nice graphics, challenging game. I included it in my compilation video series of a bunch of LDJAM games! https://youtu.be/rCfIoJGG3mQ

thejookerful 2021-04-29 20:28

I did not succeed in reaching the famous 400 m by best was only 100 m But good job your game is great and your physics is really fun ^^

leyaotang 2021-04-30 04:09

Fun! It was a travel to the 90's pointnclick adventure, without mouse. 201 meters! divescore.png

In fact part of the audio (die feedback for example) and part of the visual graphics (side tiles) are out of the atmosphere and the whole artistic concept. But it is so 1995 too! Guys think on that: it is not a mobile game or casual standard game - it is a windows 98 CD Game!

she-wrote 2021-04-30 14:19

I like the physics, killing the diver is a lot of fun.

Hey matey, thanks for submitting your game to stream! I enjoyed playing it, here's the vod, I hope the feedback helps!

Tested your game on stream earlier : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1007665137 (1:45:00 -> 1:59:30 roughly)

Feedback done on stream (from what i can remember, could be incomplete) :

**Positive :** - Having to keep a diver alive while you're moving around with a submarine and he's attached on a rope was an original idea. - Graphics are nice overall, it was nice seeing all the sharks, medusas, octopus etc... going around. It really gives a good mood. - The water becoming dark we go further + the change in audio after the 200m gave a nice atmosphere change. - The menu illustration was simply beautiful. Congrats to the artist.

**Negative :** - There's a bit of a dissonance between the setting of the unconscious diver & having to go deeper. Bringing him back to the surface from the depths would make more sense (though not fit the theme). - There's a lot of sea life, but they have no actual impact on gameplay except medusas. It was kind of disappointing. It would have been interesting to have to dodge sharks Also, having a bit more variety of fishes could be good (though it would have been complicated in 72h) with different fishes at different depths (ie. sharks & small fishes near the surface and octopus and the like deeper). - Keeping the submarine alive is kind of easy compared to the diver. - Death sfx doesn't fit the mood much. - End Screen comes out from nowhere and is bit out of mood.

Played your game on stream yesterday.

I really like the atmosphere of the game, the scenery is very alive and the lighting is well-employed.

I did mention some things could be improved on the stream, but I'll expand here:

- The diver feels a bit floaty and difficult to control, maybe adding some more drag to the diver would make it more plausible for an underwater environment and make the controls more stable. It wasn't too bad, though; - The pickups are rather hard to see: pearls are a bit small and heart is very hard to see when it gets dark; - The background sea life is very fitting, but the larger ones seemed to be part of the playfield initially, an I was instinctively avoiding them. Consider using a visual hierarchy of color to separate foreground from background, such as using a fog color layered over non-interactive elements, or having them be less affected by light. In fact such hierarchy could also help ensure your pickups remain readable, too! - It would be interesting if the jellyfish were interactive hazards, right now they are very meek obstacles mostly for mood (with the light-emitting ones). If you just want them for mood, consider disabling collision with the player (and employ the visual hierarchy above). Or if you like the idea of making it interactive, they could damage the diver but only when touched from below.

Interresting theme and mechanics. The diver physics cracked me up and made me interrested in seing differnet ways of making it deeper, but then again; Making it deeper is not challenging enough for me, but it's a gg though. Good work :)

kaappis 2021-05-02 22:40

Terrific game! Gameplay was a bit slow, but you nailed the setting, mood and theme.

togis 2021-05-03 11:29

We played your game in multiplayer two days ago during our stream. Here is a link to the exact place in the video archive if you wish to see it again: https://www.youtube.be/watch?v=aC3sZsRjx5g&t=9047s

Super fun game, I loved the physics, the game loop and the promotional poster straight out of old movie style. It may be a bit hard to realize that most object, in the foreground and background are not harmful. At first hand, I would assume that a shark with red eyes is dangerous to the diver, but no, it isn't.

We had a blast playing your game! thanks

Beauty and fun, it's a perfect game. The music is really great. It's a wonderful and fantastic game. It's a lot of fun. It was a difficult game at first. But my skills improved while playing. I also came to understand the system of games. It's a recommended game.

filgru 2021-05-03 16:39

Very interesting idea for the game. I enjoyed playing it. I would consider using different texture for the ground. Currently is too similar to the background. I like the music and the sounds. Cool font has been picked for this game. The game is nicely balanced. Well done!

etrealjunior 2021-05-04 10:52

The idea of the game is good, but I felt a little frustrated because I had created expectations in relation to its cover, I saw an all-detailed octopus shaded, at first glance I imagined the movie "a thousand underwater leagues", I ended up having the feeling that I bought 100% of art and I received 50%, the game ended up repeating many elements and textures that were very simple for a game that could have worked more, the feeling of being at the bottom of the sea was achieved, but I recommend following an art pattern, and organizing the layers, I hope I helped, a big hug to the team! , and I await your feedback regarding my game.

wheybags 2021-05-05 21:44

Video playthrough, as promised: https://seafile.wheybags.com/f/74ef8f0640b14180aac9/ Nice game overall! I liked the derpy dangly boi mechanic. I definitely expected the sharks and such to hurt me, that confused me at first.

holly 2021-05-06 16:56

Thank you guys for all the positive (and negative) feedbacks! We're working overtime to complete the game and we are also implementing some of your feedbacks aswell!

I liked the art, the music, the gameplay and how the game fits the theme. At first it was a little difficult to collect items with the diver. Congratulations to the developers.

omiya-games 2021-05-16 04:06

Here's my playthrough of the game. Got to the deepest point in the game on first try!

https://youtu.be/aHUsWQeZHns?t=6120

I actually wasn't a huge fan of the physics-based power-up system interacting with the submarine and the rope initially, but I surprisingly got good at collecting them over time as I learned to control the rope a little more, and using it as a net to gather said power-ups. I'm not sure it was intentional, but I do confess learning how to utilize the tether between the submarine and diver was really gratifying. There's a lot of depth from playing around with the rope alone, and utilizing the wonky physics to create some complex and useful behavior. I think exploring more with that mechanic, such as making both the submarine and the diver controllable, would create some really interesting opportunities.

I thought the game gradually getting darker was a really cool feature and helped set the mood well. Both the artwork, lighting, and audio really helped the mood of the game. The serious tone, though, did clash with the comical rope physics. Additionally, the lack of animations, and how every sea creature reacts to your boat like an inanimate object damper the presentation a bit, making them feel like mere physics props than actual animals. Would like to see the presentation of the game polished a bit more.

superjai 2021-05-17 23:37

I really like the rope idea. Made movement really fun. Nice job!
