LD38 — A Small World

MiniAnna Jones! by impiaaa 2017-05-17T03:58:26Z

This is a really nicely polished entry. All of the elements work well together to create a nice atmosphere for puzzle solving. The challenge has a nice progression and the feedback for solving the puzzle is addictively satisfying. I like blocky art and its always nice to see more of it :) Good show!

Abyss by srakowski 2017-05-13T13:22:14Z

I like the idea that moving gets you something rather than taking it away. Sometimes I would just tap left and right to get credits. Then I found I could just keep pressing up and get credits at the boundary. Still as with every clicker it was more fun to upgrade my colonies and watch the money pour in. I think its a neat idea to add exploration to the clicker formula.

Invasion - The Chronicle by Kappa.B 2017-05-01T04:05:44Z

This is a really ambitious entry. It seems like this has a lot of potential post compo. It would be fun to play on a touch screen :)

World Fighter by LeviDSmith 2017-05-12T22:06:35Z

The sound really pulled me in. All I could think of was He-man. I think there is a lot more that can be done with this. Its really fun and quite charming.

Land of the Sun by HolyBlackCat 2017-05-14T17:25:54Z

This is a great entry! I hope more people play your game. All of the elements work together very nicely. I really like the grass detail and the patterned gradient sky. Its cool that you can explore the world and make a plan before inviting the boss. Its quite unique. I think this is really resourceful entry. Impressive!

CircuitWorld by Multitudes22 2017-05-12T22:22:59Z

Once I understood that I wasn't great until I used all of the wires I found the puzzles satisfying :) Maybe a flashing message that says "hey! use all of those wires..." would help. Also, I think a timer ticking down would add to the fun, maybe the bulbs explode when the timer runs out forcing you to restart. Good show!

The Aliens by Nnnnneeeedddd 2017-05-12T21:01:59Z

I really enjoyed playing this game. It took me a few deaths to figure out that clicking on an item means buying and not looking but after that I had a blast. The ship is awkward to fly at first it steers like a super agile sail boat. I found I could "tack" upwards in the sailing sense which allowed me to shoot the enemies side on while they could only shoot down. I liked being able to evade freely I found it really fun. I upgraded my ship a bit. I maxed out the guns and the nose cone. The challenge seemed flat(always hard) and that's a good way to go. I found it compelling, you just can't make mistakes. The music loop is great. There are lots of little touches like animating the side thrusters, making the sky get darker as you go higher, showing damage on the aliens. I think this is a really great entry :)

Purr Evil by husky 2017-05-14T03:47:45Z

The music is great. It really goes with the game and gives it a lot of character. This is one of the best game enemies that I have ever seen in an LD. Its not exactly a fair game and its really hard to play. But I really like it.

SUPER METROARIO by puppetmaster 2017-05-14T15:52:55Z

The moment when you hit the first block and you get that big color/music transition is super good! I was pleasantly surprised when I clicked through to find a lot of great original art and original music. I think this is a great effort for such a short time :). Certainly, one of the best entries in LD 38 for sure.

Planetary Escape by w1n5t0n 2017-05-12T21:33:16Z

This is awesome. It reminds me of old atarii game Combat. I am not sure if you are familiar with it but you have recreated the atmosphere of it almost perfectly. I would love to play this with controller.

MARBLE GALAXY by Connorses 2017-05-20T01:08:55Z

I find the wheel based ai's really interesting. It was fun to watch them over shoot and then start spinning to go the other way. It was fun to smash everything. I think it the mouse look was a bit too sensitive but otherwise all of the elements work well together. Good show!

Space Brawls by jcsirron 2017-05-14T04:16:19Z

I played one player. I like the idea of orbital aiming and being limited only to starting energy for the projectile. I think if there was a little tracer on the round we could see the path and better understand the mechanic. I was able to get the hang of it. It reminds me of playing star control versus mode on an old 286 :)

Edge of the Abyss by piscythe 2017-05-19T23:50:42Z

I like RTS games and I found this game very easy to pick up. I like how you chose to auto fire and aim it really simplifies the micro so you can focus more on the mysterious macro. The assets are super great. The red and black palette looks fantastic. There is a lot of little details in art - the glowing effects are a really nice touch. I can see the beginnings of a fog of war there at the edge. I was able to select and split my little cultists and I could even micro them a bit away from incoming targets. I was able to hold on for about 6:32 seconds with mainly towers, lanterns and cultists. When the red eyed guys showed up I knew that I had the wrong build. I have since reviewed your tech tree and I will give it another shot. Its easy enough to pick up and has some depth to the challenge. Really great entry. Update: I played again. GodEyes are the way to go. I almost had three and then I made some mistakes. I managed to last until 9:43.

Crunching Creatures by Evan Overly 2017-05-01T03:51:21Z

I really enjoyed playing around with your simulation.

SLINGSHOOT by chaoclypse 2017-05-01T03:43:36Z

I love it! I wish I had had a trackball control to play this game.

Little Italy by hiki911 2017-05-14T14:37:24Z

I really liked the music it really adds a lot to the overall atmosphere. I wish the handbrake made some sort of screeching noise so that I knew it was engaged. Also I wish the objectives were on the mini map. Otherwise I had a great time trying to optimize my driving skills. I had a bunch of hilarious wipeouts. Customers are fine to jump in whether I am driving or somersaulting by :)

Slimes in Panic by KayZ 2017-05-12T21:16:19Z

I am really impressed with the road building mechanic it works really well. Each world I make is quite unique. Its fun to watch the slimes do their thing. I built a big network of roads and buildings. Slime's are everywhere. I am going to leave it running for a while.

Island Boom (but it's cats so it's okay) by adrian0901 2017-05-13T13:06:12Z

This one of the most cheery entries I have seen so far. Its so up-beat, I love it. The only thing that bothered me was the camera jumping to the next player, its just a little disorienting. Great job on the music and the fun pixelated art. Good show!

Ascension by drkr 2017-05-14T14:58:02Z

This is a great entry. There are lots of nice little details in the art style. I like that the health is visible below the character. The lighting of the rooms is done nicely and its cool to see a variety of objects in the game world. The story is simple but complete with a beginning middle and end. My only complaint is that the game is a bit easy and when you do die the death cycle is a little jarring. Good show!

BAD RNG by internetpaulicy 2017-04-24T02:48:00Z

Thanks Jason. The links are good now.

BAD RNG by internetpaulicy 2017-05-14T17:44:15Z

@wolderado thanks for playing my game! Sorry it was confusing. Its just a score attack game so no worries about coins :)

BAD RNG by internetpaulicy 2017-05-14T20:39:03Z

@skruffye its true, it is totally a bit of a clone. I have always wanted to play around with centipede and took the opportunity. It is a small world of mushrooms and bugs.

BAD RNG by internetpaulicy 2017-05-19T01:16:31Z

@piscythe I usually start with the name of the game before I do anything else. I had been watching a lot of old arcade games on youtube and I noticed that centipede actually had a lot of really interesting rng and procedural elements. I decided that I would try to make a version of centipede that all was messed up. I had also been watching a lot of metroid speed runs hearing them talk about good rng. Basically, I was compelled to call something bad rng and to make use of centipede. It does not make any sense in that there is no way that anyone could figure this out :)

28000 on the second try is pretty good

Small Whirled by PTSnoop 2017-05-14T04:01:37Z

This is a really innovative little game. I found that there are many ways to escape the whirl pool. Sometimes I had to go against the current. Sometimes I could sling shot out diving into the pool on purpose. I had a lot of fun messing with it. Great entry!

Goo Game by koreus7 2017-05-12T21:47:25Z

The game has a very distinct feeling of mysteriousness. I really like the atmosphere. I like how the glowy blob has discreet elements. I feel like I am messing with elementary particles.

Violent Goat by Pixelcode 2017-05-01T03:56:47Z

I would like to know what happens to the goat in the end? What is this place and who are these robots ;)

Giant Steps by Lennart Jansson 2017-05-14T05:22:09Z

Neat game with a nice clean style. You found an interesting way of making hex navigation quick and intuitive. After a few levels I didn't notice the letters. Its amusing that almost everything in the game is made from the same asset. Sometimes I wish there was a resourcefulness rating so that this type of cleverness could be recognized.

SubAttack by RustyRobotGames 2017-05-14T04:29:28Z

Its a little tricky to control but my only gripe is that the enemies come on a bit too strong right out of the gates. I think they just need to ramp up starting with only a few easy to kill enemies that are not such good shots. I like all of the assets and the undersea atmosphere. Its nice that you had time to build such a fun little world its very true to the theme. There are a lot of nice touches in the game overall I think its pretty well executed.Good show!

Duckinator9000 by marek77 2017-05-14T05:00:24Z

This game looks great and it plays well. I didn't notice the other power ups I just likes to evade the enemies and then blow them up with the bomb. Very satisfying. I found it a bit jarring to just jump to the kill screen. I wish I could see my score in the kill screen as well as my all time high score. Overall its undeniably a great entry :)

Yourselves by Kloki 2017-05-14T04:44:58Z

The graphics in this game are really unique and interesting to look at. The controls are very precise and most things I plan out happen the way I expect. The puzzles are really entertaining and its impressive to see what you were able to accomplish in such a short time. Really well programmed and designed. Awesome!

Cell Defender by Kreur 2017-05-12T21:57:55Z

This is neat concept. It would be fun to play with an ipad or something using the accelerometer/ touch screen. I like the sense of momentum. With some sounds and a few more indicators I think smashing the pathogens could be even more satisfying. This is really unique. I like the bio theme. Good show!

Bounceball by DusteD 2017-05-13T13:35:42Z

This is pretty cool. I really like the shield power up and how it only gives you one chance to deflect a ball actively or one mistake so you are always thinking should I use it now or just keep it and play safe. Making the green ball bounce at the edge of the screen is a nice touch it makes it feel more kinetic than just sliding along. The blur effects are nice kind of soothing. There are lots of emergent opportunities for risk and reward here given the simple conditions of the game. Good show!

Shovel vs deforestation by chispaLBC 2017-05-14T03:26:43Z

I got to level 19 with a score 29800. At the end I stood near the trees and tried to guard them like the 300. I felt like my shovel could be a little more effective maybe a faster swing and the hero could be a little faster. As a concession you could make the hero die when he gets touched by the aliens. Good show!

The Evolution Game by EvoGenGames 2017-05-20T01:16:59Z

This is neat. I have no idea how they are going to get all of these achievements. I am definitely going to checkout the code :) Is the source available?

Cosmic Flinger by TwinGhosts 2017-05-12T22:32:15Z

The orbital shooting is really well done. It took me a few minutes of experimenting to get the hang of the aiming but after that I was able to plan my shots pretty well. I find hitting the enemies an interesting challenge. The green shots are the most fun. The ambient music is nice but I wish there was a bit more audio feed back for hitting the enemies. Great use if the theme!

Don't Crush Me by Thirrash 2017-05-14T14:24:38Z

The use of transparency here is really well done. The sounds create a very realistic atmosphere and I feel like I am a little bug in someones untidy bedroom. There are a lot of roaches living in this keyboard. Its nice to know I can really help out my colony and find motivation in their day to day struggle. Although I am not sure why they want to destroy the keyboard. My only complaint is that I found the movement a bit slow. I think it could be a bit faster. Good show!

eiland by rubna 2017-05-01T04:30:23Z

This is amazing. The detail is unbelievable. The log leaves a little trail! Everything is so tiny yet so effectively interactive. I enjoy its mysteriousness. I hope more people see your game :)

LD39 — Running out of Power

The King's Saviour by drtizzle 2017-08-01T02:49:58Z

I like the 2d horse and rider animation on the 3d background with the 2d trees. It looks really cool. Its nice that a jaunty tune plays. The platforming is pretty well done although I did find a few input bugs. Sometimes a button will stay down after I die. I will be dashing and I fall off a platform and then when I re-spawn dash continues. This is great for a speed runner though ;) I like arrow weapons and this one is pretty satisfying to use and the hit feed back is really clear. I made it to the end I rescued the king.

DONNIE_VR by internetpaulicy 2017-08-01T02:05:46Z

If you hold onto the space bar you slow down significantly. You can hold it as long as you like. Your handling will increase and you can get almost any gas can unless it has gone too far down the screen already. The idea is to shift up to go fast and see more gas cans. If you see one *hold* space and slow down to get it. NOTE: there is an end to the game. So there is a special surprise for the dedicated player.

DONNIE_VR by internetpaulicy 2017-08-01T11:02:07Z

Indeed @joemag. Unfortunatly I barely had time to make the bleeps and boops that are there. Perhaps I can call up Lazerhawk.

DONNIE_VR by internetpaulicy 2017-08-02T14:47:32Z

Donnie is a free spirit. He's a drifter.

DONNIE_VR by internetpaulicy 2017-08-02T23:33:33Z

VRcar has a mind of its own.

Evil Lab: the Profane Enlightenment by kazuo256 2017-08-01T03:12:13Z

I found the door with all of the scratches. I could not figure out how to get the elevator going. I had a good time though. It was neat to see your console which runs with your game. I can see all of your logs. When I try to use the elevator it says "yo" and it sometimes prints out 10. I like the graphics it reminds me of an adventure game. The audio really pulls it all together and brings in a lot of moodiness. Its quite mysterious with the moving of power here and there. I made a lot of progress but I could not solve it. Cool use of the theme :)

Last Bot Standing: Game of the Year Edition by Shaolin Dave 2017-07-31T22:44:40Z

I was the last bot standing. I like the pacman style outro music and the music in general. I like the idea of enemy ais and the player competing for resources. I was so caught up in getting away I did not see if the ais would seek the power or if they only looked for me and got it by accident. Do the bots go for power if they need it if they are not chasing? They definitely will die chasing. Its nice to see some interesting ais in a ludum dare entry in any case. Good show!

Gargoyle's Curse by Rombus 2017-08-04T03:13:59Z

This is a really solid entry! I love the pico-8. I found this one pretty hard but I kept trying because its fun. I managed to get a score around 3000 but not quite. Its pretty addictive actually.Good show!!Capture.PNG

I feel like its possible to 5000 or even more and like save the grandpa as well

Out of Power by cpv 2017-07-31T22:32:43Z

Well, I saved the dood. It was nice to have the clock there to indicate my progress. Its a funny idea. I imagine a repair man hitting the generator or frantically turning a crank off screen. I like the art style and all the little details and indicators of power around the room. Nice submission!

Dodge The Box. by Xeinix 2017-07-31T16:15:00Z

I like the decision to present the user with obstacles that they have to avoid. The game tries to kill you so that the game ends quickly. I also like the the feeling of getting locked in a row so that I know that I am where I want to be. It could use a bit more sound feed back even when the user fails. For example: if the clouds don't do anything maybe they could fire some sort of particle system or something to make it more fun to hit them. In my best run I got to row 14.

Burrow by xonic 2017-07-31T16:33:59Z

I made it to the end! The light recharging concept is really neat and I was able to figure out what to do right away. The platforming is hard but not impossible and I like the challenge. Sometimes it was hard to understand whether I had just made it to the next scene or if I had died. Perhaps if you had a game object that animated the reaching of a check point? Anyways: Good show!

Legend of Sunflower by johnnydalvi 2017-07-31T23:45:33Z

This is a really neat world of sources and sinks. I love the illustrated art style. The enemies are really well done especially the giant centipedes. Perhaps its intentional but sometimes I can move really fast and sometimes really slow( not sure why). The levels are really well designed and satisfying to complete :)

System.reLight by Reggnos 2017-08-01T03:31:27Z

This game looks and sounds great. There is so much detail in the art. The rooms have tons of little details. Incredible. The ais are really cool and they seem to have some intelligence. The ui art is just as nice as the in game art. I shot guys for a while and it was fun. All of the shots look great although a more pronounced hit effect would be nice. I am not sure what the end game is but this game looks great and has a cool atmosphere and story.

Zombie Rush by Duck_Games 2017-07-31T17:12:41Z

I like the economy of zombies fuel and damage. They all work together to make the levels interesting. I was able to complete several runs and then suddenly the difficulty level increased in a hilarious way. I found your game very entertaining.

S.O.S(Spaceship Out of Supplies) by Sancho 2017-07-31T22:05:00Z

I made it to safety! I really enjoyed playing through this game. Some of the levels had some really fun and tricky challenges. The music is super awesome and there are so many tracks. This reminds me so much of Sub Terrainia in tone and design. The ship and environment assets are really nice. Good show!

After the Crash by Nalozyc Shade 2017-08-01T00:00:24Z

I found this very stressful to play through. It felt like reliving the same moment over and over again. Sometimes I had control of the car but other times I felt powerless to hit more cars. This was overall a weird experience. It communicates itself very well. This is an interesting use of the medium.

Very Fast Robot Rolling at High Speed by binary_coder 2017-07-31T23:30:30Z

I really enjoyed playing your game. I am amazed at how many interesting puzzles you have created. The little bot is fun to control. I love the momentum puzzles you really have to trust the game sometimes more than your intuition allows. I find the game rewards risk takers rather than punishing them. Really neat!

Minor Jump by colozz 2017-07-31T16:49:49Z

The platforming is really precise and the collision detection is perfect. The limited visibility is neat, it forced me to do some exploration. @colozz Do you generate the levels or are they hand made?

Deep Space Nine Volts by Boxfort 2017-07-31T23:06:23Z

This is a really great use of the theme. I felt like a member of an FTL crew. I understood what I had to do right away given the amount of hours I have logged on FTL. I found the extra battery hidden in one of the rooms but man I always ended up dead. It would be nice if you didn't have to put down a fresh battery , take out the dead one and then put the fresh battery in( maybe just auto swap for the user). Anyways its hard to keep cool and switch batteries efficiently. I had a lot of fun messing up all the time. I found a few movement issues where I could get caught in the terrain (near the battery chargers at the back) but I was always able to get loose. Really impressive submission.

A SWELL BULLET-HELL by algu 2017-08-01T03:43:50Z

I played this game for a while and I found it pretty enjoyable. At first I wanted to evade the bullets. Then I decided that I am mainly a turret and I will be the best turret. The bullets all look amazing and its really cool to watch them bounce around. A soon as I realized that both mouse buttons fire weapons that made it way cooler. For some reason I am able to eject my little dood from his mech and fly around. Also I can eject something like a battery or something. Its weird but it is fun to zip around as the little guy and it looks like he shoots but I couldn't figure it out. Neat!

Lunar Lander by Jacob Holyfield 2017-07-31T21:43:56Z

I found that hard mode is much more fun to play. I was able to land every time in hard mode. Easy mode is a bit confusing as the ship moves too slowly down and it is easy to end up over doing it on the throttle and then having to wait for the ship to slow down and fall again. I really like the fire effect it looks great!

Dying (Phone) Light by neurofuzzy2 2017-07-31T22:18:48Z

I really like the mood of this game. Darkness is setting in and all the while you just need to charge your phone but no one cares. I played the game a bunch of times. I found that I could not win but all of the failure cases were amusing. Sometimes every place had a covered plug.Sometimes you start and there are no buildings for blocks. I had a scenario where every place was close except for one place with no plugs. Basically I found this game very entertaining to lose.

LD42 — Running out of space

Danger! Danger! It's Lava by internetpaulicy 2018-08-14T10:10:25Z

Thanks @welliton, I dunno that first part is pretty easy :) You have to be crafty with the blocks. Sigh, theres something really wrong though.

Danger! Danger! It's Lava by internetpaulicy 2018-08-14T11:31:07Z

Sigh. There is a horrible bug! But only on certain computers.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Orange Diver: The Great Drown by Prostone 2021-04-26T19:44:06Z

This is a great game. All of the elements of the game are done so nicely. I can imagine that there were a few late evenings! The world is super alive and teeming with things to look at. I can not make it to the bottom yet but I will try my best.

SUPER RED by neonjeff 2021-04-26T19:53:01Z

I kept going down and I was not disappointed!

Dungeon Deeper by horhorou 2021-04-26T20:06:28Z

Wow! this is just super well done! All of the elements are working together so well. At first I could not understand why I was dying but then I heard the clock ticking. The visual effects are super cool and I love the color palette. Seems like a cool idea to keep exploring post compo.

Deeper & Deeper by Encrypted 2021-04-26T19:15:28Z

Interesting idea. The flares are your mobility and your light. The music is spirited. I wish there were a couple of sound effects though... I thought it was a good choice to use physics here it really gives the game a feeling that things are a little out of control. Good show!

Falling & Shooting by Volodya 2021-04-26T19:35:02Z

The main track is pretty sweet. What a sewer system! The perfect get away sewer system. Very fun game with fun action movie logic. At first I thought the arrows were telling me to exit below but now I get it. I really enjoyed the simplicity in the design. The game loop is solid - keeps you in the action. Fun game!

Deeper in space by Demo20 2021-04-26T19:23:49Z

This is a great entry. I love the music. It really compels me to keep playing. The audio is just super well done on all fronts. The transitions are a bit abrupt but I think you are going for a quick punchy pace. Nice work!
