LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

L.A.V.A. series L.A.M.P. edition VS THE WORLD by kazuo256 2017-12-06T21:33:16Z

Hey everyone, thanks for all the comments, suggestions and feedback!

We've just uploaded a minimal bugfix patch which will hopefully allow more of you to properly enjoy the game.

@gnarly-narwhal, we've added an option to toggle between windowed and fullscreen mode (F10 button), besides the possiblity to resize the window itself.

@nillard, the enemy collisions should be working now for the bigger ones too. Your report was much appreciated.

@elemel, we did not have a Mac system to test this new patched version, but maybe it is fixed now.

Anyone with a MacOS can confirm whether the overlay misplacement bug persists?

@james-studd, that console error is an issue in the game engine we used (Godot 2.1). Nothing much we can do about it that we know of =(

---

If any other worrisome bugs pop up, we'll be sure to amend it ASAP. Thanks again to everyone who's played and rated our game so far =D

LD42 — Running out of space

Cutting Edge: Screensaver by kazuo256 2018-08-15T02:47:53Z

@raivk

> Just a thing : the remains of the ennemies start to clutter the screen to quickly, blocking the player without letting him do anything against it !

Did you perhaps... run out of space?

Sorry, I know. The game is bit on the hard side ;)

LD45 — Start with nothing

Blueprint Blast by Tui 2019-10-08T14:29:46Z

Played from the source an laughed a lot! The car editor is incredibly well-polished, and the text and race mode are just hilarious. Great job guys! =D

Spooky: The one who lost everything by Susumu Asaga 2019-10-08T14:27:15Z

Very nice game! The art is very impressive and I really like how the story flows in naturally. I believe it fits the theme very well. Level design is fun and intuitive. Amazing job!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Keep It Undead by pcmaster 2020-04-21T19:56:30Z

The game idea is very fitting in many senses. Slightly reminds me of micro-managing in real-time strategy games. However, since you can't control the coughing, it's much harder to achieve your objectives.

I also agree that it was not obvious you had to escape to progress to the next stage.

That said, a very nice take on the theme and great sense of humor.

Tiny heart by vidarn 2020-04-25T00:54:07Z

The game plays very fluidly, being very easy to learn, understand, and enjoy (something quite hard to achieve in a jam). The amount of stages is just right as well.

The only thing I missed was a relaxing soundtrack to accompany Mimmi's quest =)

Keep it aloft by Papaver 2020-04-25T02:58:24Z

A very challenging, charming, and amazing game! I couldn't finish and have to agree that the collision with obstacles was too sensitive (maybe also because of the accelered movement). Despite that, I take my hat off to you for the simple yet powerful puzzle mechanics, both in gameplay and metaphorical narrative =D

Healing Quest by kazuo256 2020-04-21T19:42:08Z

@supercool-guy Thanks for the feedback!

We opted out of audio because we didn't make it (see credits).

About the slow-paced gameplay, you encourage you to try and play to the end ;)

Finally, when that bug occurs, does the screen fade out or is the transition back to the title screen sudden and abrupt?

Dance n' Die by rodel77 2020-04-24T00:49:38Z

Really happy to see so much free software being used to make games!!!

Like the others, it tooks me a while to understand the mechanics, probably due to biased expectiation towards Crypt of the Necrodancer.

I missed shortcuts to select traps to place. It seems I can't "cancel" a placement either.

However, I like that the screen becomes more colorful as you match the rhythm. Very nice feedback!

Support Class by SamuelDeboni 2020-04-22T00:33:10Z

Very nice game! We actually did something very similar (you also play the healer in an RPG party), which is why I found this so amusing!! =D

The main difference is that you used a turn-based approach, which made it much more tactical. Very interesting! You also managed to implement MP and items, which added depth to the in-game choices.

The battle animations are really fun to watch and the last boss (?) was very challenging (I couldn't beat it).

Lastly, I'm very very happy to see others using Godot ;)

Good job!

Protect the Walnut! by Eduardo Yukio 2020-04-21T19:01:03Z

The walnut mechanics are really interesting and there is a lot to explore. Great design idea! I think this game would be very very fun in an extended version where those mechanics are developed further. If such a day comes, here are my suggestions, from more to less important:

1. Really smooth out that difficulty curve. Pay special attention to how often you demand "perfect play" from the player, since that generates tension in a game where death resets you back to the beginning of the level. The first level, for instance, should feel welcoming and, thus, might be best without such tension. From there, it should oscillate but also gradually increase over the levels.

2. In that sense, maybe the game would benefit from recovery items, It would allow the player to make more mistakes and still have a good chance of overcoming the challenges at the end of a level. Again, you should use this as a tool to control tension, not just make the game easier.

3. Maybe art isn't your specialty, but some little things go a long way to improve how your game informs the player. The buttons, for instance, could have a little shadow so they look more "pushable". They also should definitely look different from doors. The matching colors between buttons and doors was a very nice idea, though =)

4. Maybe because I read the comments about the controls before playing, I actually didn't have that much trouble with them. They can, of course, be improved. You probably need to tweak the acceleration and friction parameters. I personally prefer platformers where you don't slide so much. Greater air control might mix better with the harsh level design.

My favorite part was the one where you meet increasing groups of 1, 2, and then 3 zombies and you have to jump over them. I chuckled out loud.

That's it, great game and hope you keep'em coming! =D

droidathon by acgaudette 2020-04-23T00:38:40Z

I really really loved the graphics! Takes me back to the good old Doom times...

However, the special effects and sounds of shooting and hitting are by far the best part of this game. Hitting the enemy feels so good! And getting hit is very impactful as well. It's all in probably no more than a second yet you can feel everything happening. Loved it! I feel like playing it over and over again.

The only thing I was missing was background music.

Catnip Panic by Platyp 2020-04-21T20:18:26Z

April art is excellent! A very charming game completely aligned with the theme =D

The old man running after you was very funny.

After understanding how to play, I really enjoyed the fast paced dynamics of coming and going to keep the catnip alive. The game title is sell deserved!

My complaints would be the floor tiles, the mouse controls in a game that doesn't use a cursor, and the small resolution.

Dragon Egg by Heiach 2020-04-25T00:37:20Z

The feel of the graphics and soundtrack is great!

The pushing mechanics felt nice too. There were only a few times when I fell and then snapped back up again.

The most annoying glitch I faced was that, on the second level, the egg would be hit before the loading screen even faded out, making the game restart the level 2 to 4 in a row.

Keep Campfire On by FedeOlive 2020-04-23T01:00:04Z

The idea that you have to balance wood and apples is very interesting! I could keep playing this for quite a while.

It just took me a while to understand all the mechanics. Most of it was because sometimes the changes to the resource bars were so small that I could not understand which ones increased. Maybe a more explicit feedback, like particles coming out of the affected bars or the item sprites fyling towards them would inform the player better. I thought for the first two playthorghs that I had to "drop" apples far from the fire to eat them, otherwise I would be throwing them on the fire.

The visuals in this game are amazing! Added to the very smooth controls and incredible soundtrack, it makes for an amazing experience! The game feels so good to play =D

I really like that the gameplay is straightfoward but the whole package is tuned to perfection.

Fireman (in-browser) by Somniac 2020-04-25T02:45:26Z

Very interesting concept! Managed to achieve at least one goal =D

It's really nice that the game previews how the wind will affect the fire, but the game can still benefit from more dedicated usability.

Some form of progression, like starting with more than one fire and then reducing that after each goal, would be nice to introduce the mechanics more gently.

Deer Quest by Brachistosauro 2020-04-22T23:58:36Z

A very funny game, indeed. I loved the nonsensical nonplot very deerly.

Just really missed some music and sounds though.

The combat was very simple and straightfoward, but effective and engaging. Just two actions but a very satisfying experience. Especially the boss!

I'm also really happy to see soemone using LÖVE in Ludum Dare XD

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Tower of Madness by Eduardo Yukio 2020-10-06T12:45:31Z

A very funny game!

I couldn't play very far, really bad at this genre. What comments I can give based on my short playthrough is:

* The controls felt nice and precise: I could control the height of the jump and stop moving horizontally to land exactly where I wanted. I would maybe increase the walking friction or simply remove deceleration altogether. I'm not very versed on platformer movement though.

* There should be a more immediate feedback for death. I often would keep trying to move asking myself whether it was lag or collision, only to be respawned and finally understand I had hit a spike from the side.

* On that note, maybe the art could be improved to help antecipate where collision bounds are with more accuracy. Also I love *tsukkomi* characters.

* I enjoyed the color palette used.

* The small remarks from the character were really funny and were my main motivation to keep going - like, what'll he say next? It was a good idea to have this comic relief in such taxing gameplay.

* I would maybe autosave even more, since - at least with my horrible game skills - the spot I died most was the very first jump that was always the same every stage. You can tell me to git gud though, I'm aware I'm not quite the target audience.

All in all, a solid entry for the compo!

Hiccup Time by Somogy 2020-10-08T00:43:03Z

As many said, the game really has a good take on the theme!

The graphics, humor, soundtrack were all on spot.

I actually found the core mechanic very intuitive and straightfoward. You even added a redudancy by showing both the bars and the timer one the corner. And it was very funny to use because it made you feel clever. Except for the spikes, because all you had to do was wait for the right timing. I disliked that because the only "skill" it required was patience and didn't *feel* like it made use of the hiccup mechanics.

Interface-wise, I liked the message box in the bottom-right corner since it reminded me of old-school roguelike message logs, but I kept forgetting to check it for hints. That, in turn, made me take a good while to realize what was going on with my ingredients. For that matter, it also took me a while to understand I was even *getting* the ingredients. A more responsive UI would go a long way to help this.

All in all, I enjoyed the game quite a lot. Congratulations!

Tuxedo, watch out for the rock! by Gumemura 2020-10-06T13:07:27Z

Like many said, it's a great game for a first attempt!

I also agree with the rest about sfx, score, movement precision, and the coins not being intuitive. My personal remarks would be that:

* I don't know why you chose to be vague about the "special power". Took me a few tries (which I could have use to actually play the game) to figure out what it does and how it relates to the coins.

* The intro animation is great because it serves multiples purposes. It tells us what the game is about, why it is so, and what its tone is. Besides, it's funny and helps break the ice. I don't know how hard it was, but I always leave cutscenes to the end and end up making them in a hurry. You made the right choice putting the time and effort into it.

Hope you keep making good games like this =)

Escape-loop by Chukwuebuka_racer 2020-10-08T00:19:23Z

I liked the simple graphics and the music (though as the others said the sfx were a bit too loud). You managed a nice look with what you had.

Also had a hard time understing where my bombs would go, but if I had to guess they seemed to always go after one of the enemies? And sometimes they would pass over the walls while other times they would blow in my face.

I think my HP regenerated at some point but I did not understand why.

That said, choosing between defending yourself or running for the checkpoint made for a nice challenge, which was a very proper design execution on your part.

LD58 — Collector

N64 Game Collector ! by Magalix 2025-10-13T23:34:56Z

Very charming game! The sound track also had a lot of Nintendo vibe so it fit very well. Works very well with the theme and has that extra nostalgia appeal that made me instantly click it!

It would be nice to be able to remove games you posted for sale, both in case I regretted it or the game isn't selling for the current price. Or maybe I just did not understand how to do that, in which case it could be more prominent in the UI somehow. It also took me a while to understand what the "Prices" tab meant.

Is "Eolise" spelled correctly in the credits? Maybe it was supposed to be "Eloise"?
