Levels get harder as you progress which is nice, though sometimes the egg would glitch out and move away on its own, and the loading screen after dying is unusually long.

heiach 2020-04-21 17:20

Yeah I didn't have time to fix the loading screen bugs :(

bebadboi 2020-04-22 01:10

big fan of the music and art. great job!

virtuaworlds 2020-04-22 01:15

decent little game with a gameboy look. reminds of that old penguin game where u have to go drop something and be careful.

2020-04-22 01:25

Hated the RNG on Level 2, but cute game. Found I had to make sure to not be moving when so the starts would fall down.

epsulon 2020-04-22 15:14

good job i really liked the graphics

gus-the-shark 2020-04-22 15:29

Nice execution, feels very retro. I also like the idea of protecting the egg, super cute. Wish there was a way to hold the egg to move it back. On the second level I would increase the delay before meteors start falling, feels a bit unbalanced. Overall I enjoyed this entry. Good work

disperse 2020-04-25 00:33

Baby dragon with egg is super cute, the music fits the aesthetic well. Very nice!

kazuo256 2020-04-25 00:37

The feel of the graphics and soundtrack is great!

The pushing mechanics felt nice too. There were only a few times when I fell and then snapped back up again.

The most annoying glitch I faced was that, on the second level, the egg would be hit before the loading screen even faded out, making the game restart the level 2 to 4 in a row.

iamscissors 2020-04-25 00:40

I enjoyed the art but when starting the 2nd level I got stuck in a loading loop because I think the fireball just kept hitting my egg. I like the concept may need more work

adhesion 2020-04-25 00:42

Nice, cute little platformer! I like the concept, good use of the theme. The level design could be improved a bit - the first level took a couple tries since I thought the first part was sort of a tutorial, so I pressed Z immediately and lost. Probably better to position the spikes so that the player has a chance to try out the controls right off the bat without the risk of losing. Also had issues with the randomness in level 2, I lost immediately on my first try. It's pretty long so losing right at the end was frustrating too. Still there are some cool ideas here, would be cool to see this expanded upon. Nice work!

perfectfitz 2020-04-25 00:42

This was super cute and I enjoyed it. I had some difficulty jumping on the ramps, but it was a cool concept and I really enjoyed the mood.

cavedens 2020-04-25 00:42

Very cute game. I liked the theme of it. Definitely one of the more original ideas. Would like to see this expanded on and made to a complete game.

cadstor 2020-04-25 00:49

Music and art combine so well, I really liked it, it's incredible.

sndr 2020-04-25 00:55

I was going to provide similar feedback to what @adhesion mentioned above. I also immediately lost after pressing Z as I also thought it was a tutorial :see_no_evil:

The position of the goal should probably be hinted, or partially visible on the first level, so that the player has a clear understanding from the start on what are they aiming for.

Other than that, the platformer is very cute, has a lovely retro style to it, and I definitely dig the take on the theme! The sounds are simple yet effective for what it needs. Overall, it's a nice piece of work!

iamscissors 2020-04-25 00:57

I enjoyed the art but when starting the 2nd level I got stuck in a loading loop because I think the fireball just kept hitting my egg. I like the concept!

fallingflatstudios 2020-04-25 01:11

Nice game; I like the retro style art and the music is really good.

michael-wingfield 2020-04-25 01:12

Almost finished the second level, but got tired of looking at a screen that said "Level 2...Scrambled...Level 2...Scrambled" over and over again. I like the sound and art design though. Thanks for your submission.

thermacon 2020-04-25 01:20

Interesting idea. Very original. I found the extra long loading screen to be pretty annoying. Sometimes reloading the browser would be faster than waiting. The difficulty was great. On the first level, though, the tutorial really tripped me up. I read press Z, I pressed it, and the egg died. "Wait, following instruction lead to my failure?" The music was great!

owl-and-jackalope 2020-04-25 01:24

Cute art style and fantastic sound effects. The game had an interesting idea. The first and second levels were very different than one another which was a little strange. I assumed that they levels would follow more of a steady evolution approach. Going from dropping the egg downward to dodging meteors felt like I was playing two different games with the same controls. I wish that I had the ability to push and pull the egg, especially on the second level. The push animations were so cute! Well done!

loois-messina 2020-04-25 01:24

I loved the art style. The scanline effect looked good and the character design was cute. Overall the game was slow paced, a bit bugged, and required a lot of patience. But great job!

larsdu 2020-04-25 01:47

Like the music

yetanother 2020-04-25 01:49

looks super cute and the music and sfx are super nicce! My browser is kinda freezing when I die. Also, the z key is a bit hard to reach. Good Job!

paul-nadan 2020-04-25 02:07

This was a cool idea, I wish you had time to make more levels! The graphics were very cute, and together with the sound effects this had a very cohesive feel. At the start of the second level it felt like I sometimes died almost immediately, which combined with the long respawn transition become a little frustrating. Something that might help is starting the player in a kind of safe zone out of range of the meteors, so they have time to get their bearings and plan how they'll approach the level. Overall though this was really neat. Nice work!

zfert 2020-04-25 02:10

Game looks adorable, but I got completely locked out of it during level 2, where stars kept hitting my egg before the scene would fade in. Please give me a safe zone!

shaolin-dave 2020-04-25 02:12

Reminds me of the game "Penguin Land" on Sega. I think you could fix up the physics and collisions. sometimes I'd breathe fire between two tiles and not hit either. Sometimes the egg would barely touch a ledge and be caught or barely miss a spike and still break. It'd be cool to have a circle collider on the egg so it'd roll if it's right on the edge of things. Concept is good to work forward on, sound and graphics design were really good.

BTW my game is called "Dragon Eggs".

flipsy 2020-04-25 02:19

Really like the graphics and audio. Level 2 felt very difficult which would be fine but I got frustrated at how long it took to start again. A but of a confusing switch when the first level teaches you to go down and then second level you are going across. Loved the style of it. Great work!

somniac 2020-04-25 02:47

Great job on the art and music, I also couldn't keep playing after the first level

kris-casimir 2020-04-25 03:17

Very cute graphics and nice music. I like the color scheme as well. I echo the Level 2 sentiments others have shared about getting stuck in a scramble loop and not really getting far. I felt like I couldn't move the egg very well and it made the game quite challenging.

cheesepencil 2020-04-25 03:43

Big fan of the art style and BGM. Very cute!

grentacular 2020-04-25 07:32

A solid idea that needs a little more polish to be great. In terms of controls, I would have used a different key other than Z for the flamethrower (or used arrow keys for movement). Also I died several times on Level 2, sometimes before the level even fully loaded. I would consider maybe making it so that you can't be hit until you move the egg slightly? Anyways, all-in-all not a bad jam game. Good work!

splitpainter 2020-04-25 08:44

This is so cool. Fits the theme well, very original. Love the CRT effect on top of everything and the music is very fitting. I just think it ramped in difficulty too quickly, could be ajusted to be a final product, because it has potential.

kfischer-okarin 2020-04-25 10:37

This was really nice... The graphics, sound and atmosphere were quite good. The difficulty increase between level 1 and 2 was quite huge and it was a pity that you didn't need the flamethrower at all in stage 2. Also I felt the game still kept running in the background when game over happened, which sometimes caused the egg to die immediately on a new stage retry. If you work on it and add more content this can become a really good game I think!

heiach 2020-04-25 13:22

@kazuo256 yeah I'm sorry about the loading issue. That problem only showed up after I uploaded it to itch.io and by then I only had minutes to try and solve it.. suffice to say, I was unable to :(

heiach 2020-04-25 13:24

@adhesion Or maybe I'm a bit of a troll, sorry about the brutal tutorial hehe!

heiach 2020-04-25 13:25

@michael-wingfield yeah sorry about that, that bug only appeared once I had uploaded the game and I didn't have any time really to fix it :S

heiach 2020-04-25 13:27

@zfert sorry! I only added in level 2 quickly at the end.. Good idea, adding a safe zone! And *then* the loading screen between the levels decided to lock.. by that point it was too late

heiach 2020-04-25 13:27

@shaolin-dave You'll find it's in the credits as inspiration :)

marcusnystrand 2020-04-26 14:02

Cool scan line filter and overall nice aesthetics. A bit short with only two levels but the concept comes across and you could easily develop more with more time :)

Well done!

johnnysix 2020-04-27 00:31

Pretty cool, the concept of destroying blocks with the flame breath was new. It'd be cool with some particle effects ( maybe spreading fire if you heat it too much like real fire getting too hot it ignites neighbouring bricks ) .

heiach 2020-04-27 00:42

@johnnysix Oh nice ideas! And thank you!

sharks 2020-04-27 15:25

I found myself reloading the page multiple times after running out of patience for the loading screens. It seems to take forever to load after hitting the restart key. At the beginning of the game it wasn't really clear to me what I was supposed to do. Other than that it was a great experience! Very unique!

nabo369 2020-04-28 10:36

Pretty cool game idea, a little dragon protecting an egg. I loved the artstyle and the relaxed music in the background

duke 2020-04-28 10:55

Nice concept with really cute art and animations. The music and sound effects fit very well. Good job on that front! The controls were tight and worked good. Only when you push the egg against the wall, there seems to be no way to get it out again. Unfortunately, I ran into a lot of bugs regarding level restart and progression. So much so, that I gave up after the third try. The game freezes, when you lose and/or you progress. I think you are already aware of this issue, so I don't need to go into much detail on this. It is very unnerving though, especially on failure.

Still, a nice little puzzle platformer with good production value all around.

colozz 2020-04-28 11:30

Nice game, very cute. Sadly it took down my browser a few times, I wasn't able to start level 2 :(

prodigalson 2020-04-29 03:52

A couple of things that stood our immediately that made it challenging for me to enjoy the game: - The button mapping could benefit from an alternative version where I could use the ARROW keys to move since I need to use "Z" to fire flame, or switch to using "F" for fire and that might help - The egg starts over a trap and the first thing prompt says "press Z" which causes the fire and causes you to lose. This is an unfair way to play unless you set the expectations from the beginning "This game is designed to trick you so be aware of your surroundings" or something like that - The game became a "trial and error" situation since I could only see one row bellow not allowing me to make a decision I can recover from. Meaning, if I don't go down the right block chances are the next row has only spikes and it is an automatic death - not a fun experience - Which brings me to this, I would be willing to accept everything above if the game quickly threw me back into it but I have to wait through a few text and screen loads just to try again and fail at. This really tests someone's patience making the game not as enjoyable as it could be

Now for the things that did work: - Always a plus to have the buttons right there on the game and immediately get feedback as to what they do - The graphics and aesthetics all fit very well and even the music help to set the mood be it I would like some variation on longer plays - The speed and animations gave it a weight that made it feel right given the environment I was in

Some additional improvements - Allow me to recover once or twice from putting the egg in an impossible spot. For example maybe I can whip it to make it go over the spikes on my current row but if I do that 3 times the egg breaks. This way if I land on a bad spot and need to move the egg over some spikes, I can

lebbyfoxx 2020-04-29 23:15

A cool and interesting puzzle game! It fits the theme well. Controls weren't as smooth as I thought they would be, but still playable and fine. Music is quite nice, and so is the simplistic pixel artstyle. It slowed down a bit, but from what I was able to play I liked. Nice game! I like this submission!

heiach 2020-04-30 03:40

@lebbyfoxx Thank you so much!

frosty 2020-04-30 07:39

A lot of bugs when trying to retry the level, but beyond that this is a solid little puzzler. Neat retro graphics, sfx, and music. And a really cute application of the theme.

Great entry!

rujo 2020-05-01 10:34

The gfx style of the game is very cool, i like it very much, the concept is simple but good, something that you can play on a NES back in the days. Maybe you caould add a little more action/speed to the game, sometimes it feels a little "slow" (transitions for example but a little bit also the game itself) btw I liked it very much!

heiach 2020-05-01 19:12

Thank you *so* much for all of the feedback! Yeah I know about the transitions and loading times.. sadly it wasn't something I could fix before the competition ended.

robert-li 2020-05-02 05:26

I really liked the art and animations. The instruction to press Z on the first level would be better to be placed somewhere else so player does not die very soon and could actually understand the controls. The loading process from finishing level 1 to starting level 2 took a while. I also felt like the meteors should have shown at the very beginning of level 2 since player is still trying to observe the playing field. But overall good job.
