Turbo Singulation 6000 by DrPetter 2011-12-24T09:53:00
I really like the simplicity of the gameplay. With a bit more time put in, it could be a solid entry.

I really like the simplicity of the gameplay. With a bit more time put in, it could be a solid entry.
Really interesting how the story and mechanics worked together. Nice polished entry and definitely fits the theme. Congrats on finishing. =)
Looks like you put some real effort into this, but like the other commenters, the game ran super fast for me, to the point where it was unplayable. =/
Cool mechanic. It would have been nice to see a gradual progression of difficulty through the levels, and some more decision/risk taking. Congrats on finishing!
Really nice demo. The mood really fit the theme.
Seemed rather polished... but I was totally left hanging... what happens on Day 2?!?! =)
Nice job for a first game!
Seems like a neat start, but I agree that it might have been more fun if I knew what to do. Congrats on finishing!
Aside from all the bugs, I had fun with this one. Congrats on finishing!
Brilliant!
Nice to see a complete game with different game mechanics and a bit of variety with the bosses. Nice job. =)
Nice simple platform-shooter with a fitting soundtrack.
From the Info section above: "...collecting batteries along the way for extra points." Basically, if you can grab them without making a mistake, you'll end up with a higher score.
I agree with the comments that it'd be nice if they had an additional purpose, but that's all I could fit in under the time limit. Thanks!
Nice minimalist approach. =)
Congrats on finishing your first LD! Just a quick tip: try not to kill the player within the first second of the game. =)
Strangely addictive, and the simple sound effects worked really well. Having a scrolling starfield in the backround, and maybe some simple shading on the circles are the only things I'd add.
Really neat graphics, and I like the way you integrated the help text into the actual backgrounds.
Very impressive overall. Great music!
Really interesting gameplay mechanics. With some sound effects and some improved graphics, you have a neat mini-game here.
Congrats on finishing. Unfortunately, the music was super-loud and the controls made it rather unplayable.
Really interesting art style and music!
This looks like it could be a really neat entry, but without any help, it's hard to know what you're supposed to do.
Hey, nice work on this. I really liked the overall style. Just wish it was maybe a bit more forgiving.
Neat entry! Didn't realize at first that missing fish was causing me to lose health, but once I got that, it was pretty cool. Loved the overall graphic style. Nice work. =)
Really like the overall style!
This is a solid entry, despite any troubles you had along the way. =) Really like the graphic style!
Wow, great concept, great music, great graphics. Great job, guys.
Nice entry. The background audio really added to the mood.
Great work for a weekend game!
Really polished entry. Nice work. =)
The hiding mechanic was a nice touch. Great work. =)
Thanks, cwalter. Exploiting the pathing is actually the core gameplay. It's partly inspired by an old ASCII game called 'robots' where you try to get the enemies to run into each other.
One of the best examples I've seen yet, of how to create an engaging interactive story.
I like this. =) With some sounds and bigger clickable arrows, this could be pretty addictive.
Neat little memory puzzler. =)
Clever take on the theme, and really nice graphics/animations. =)
Fun little game!
Really nice presentation of a simple idea. Might be more interesting to see a bit more of the map, so it doesn't feel so much like trial and error. Overall, nice work. =)
Love the pixel art and retro soundtrack. Excellent work!
Thanks, Steven. It's all client-side JavaScript, so you just need View Source on the page. =)
Beautiful graphics and great gameplay, though I felt bad for the deer. =)
Very cool! Love the surreal graphics and sound. =) The bouncing effect when you hit something is a nice touch.
Really nice entry! The gameplay was novel and fit the theme really well. I would personally advance to the higher levels slightly sooner, since I felt I did a couple too many 2-star rounds before it got interesting.
Also played the post-compo version for a bit, and I like the improvements you made, but would recommend going back to the stars you originally had (but with the newer colors) -- they are just more thematic and interesting than flat circles.
Nice work! =)
Really neat artwork, and a nice take on the theme. Some better sounds and music could have really elevated the fun factor, but we all know that there's not always enough time for that. =) Overall nice work.
Cool entry. =) Would have been nice if the decisions had more effect on the outcome, but I found myself sticking with it to the end.
Great entry. =) Took a couple of tries before I got the hang of it, but after that it was really enjoyable.
I like the art style and the grinder effect. This could be a neat little game with some more polish and clearer goals. Nice work!
Nice minimal puzzle game. I like the graphic style. =)
Nice entry, I really liked how the small levels connected together. Only thing was the sluggish animation with the 3D character. I would like to have seen the character art consistent with the 2D backgrounds. Overall, nice work. =)
Nice entry! Would have liked a bit more structure/progression, but the mechanics are rather promising.
Good point about having more visual indication of the play styles. Maybe as a quick patch, I'll add some hint text.
Very creative! Too bad I'm just as bad at baking in your game as I am in real life. =)
Surprisingly addictive gameplay! A lot of great animations (bobbing up and down, screen shakes, etc). Lucky for the fish that fishermen are too busy waging war to actually get any fishing done. =)
Neat idea with really nice graphics. I assume Joust was an inspiration. Couldn't figure out exactly what it takes to kill the other player, though.
I really like the forest theme. Nice entry. =)
I like it! Love the C64 vibe of the whole thing. Quite good for a LD entry. Only thing was the aiming controls are a bit fiddly. Maybe change it to a crosshair that you rotate around the character instead of free-floating.
I agree with the others. This is a great start to a fun concept. Hope you consider adding a bit more as a post-compo version, even if it's just a couple of levels.
Nice collection of minigames connected by an interesting message. I like how you captured the advancement of civilization in a very simple way. Thanks for the warning about the music. =D
Awesome concept. =) There is definitely potential here for a bigger game.
Always fun to see hacking-style interfaces in games. I agree with the others that it was a bit unclear what the choices meant in terms of gameplay, but the overall presentation felt like it had a lot of depth to it. Nice work overall.
Nice 3D models and dark atmosphere. Clever take on the theme. Great work overall!
Really clever idea! I'm not sure who is more inept -- the engineer who made a bridge with no side walls, or the police who keep driving off the edge. =)
Really cute game overall, and a nice take on the theme. Great work!
Excellent little puzzle platformer. There was a pretty big jump in difficulty on the "Restart" level, though, and I ended up giving up.
Interesting concept, and I liked the overall atmosphere. The enemies were really hard to avoid, as they were too fast and numerous (for me anyway). Nice work!
While it's not completely original, I really like the retro style and execution of it.
Really interesting gameplay, mixing the multi-step weapons development and tactical combat. I agree with the others that the minimal graphics work really well. Nice work!
Neat concept. I like the snail design and the colorful death explosion. =) It's pretty unforgiving, though... I don't think I lasted more than a few seconds at a time. Congrats on finishing!
Nice storyline with interesting choices. Walking around took a little too long, but I liked the overall atmosphere. Good work overall. =)
Nice Monty Python-esque approach. =)
Nice! Took a few tries to finally win. Interesting combination of themes that worked surprisingly well in a small game like this.
For some reason I find this really compelling without any gameplay. The atmosphere is compelling enough to make me want to explore. The slow pace really works. Add in a bigger variety of sea creatures, especially as you get to the sea floor, and you'll have something really special, I think. Great work. =)
You did a great job of capturing the dark humor of Paranoia. Makes me want to play a full 3D version now. :)
Pretty steep learning curve, but I like how you incorporated the theme into a light strategy game.
Great setting and mood. Nice touch with the snowy footsteps, dog following along, and the day/night cycle.
Wow, that was... interesting. :) Nice art style, and the music fits really well. I think I'll be taking a bike to work the next couple of days.
Nice storyline and concept. :) I especially like the idea that the music loses tracks as each element is defeated.
BTW, I found a bug where all of the ending text was superimposed on the intro text.
Runs super slow on my laptop, but I think the concept is great!
Great entry. I like how he asks you for help, but then makes you feel guilty for throwing pretty much anything away. :)
I've always wanted to try making something evolution-related like this. Neat to see your take on it. :) I really like the art style, though the gameplay felt kind of random. Most of the time I ended at 2 generations, but my highest was 18. I couldn't really tell why I did better than in other rounds.
I like the music and art style, though I got stuck at the level with the red wall. I wasn't quite sure how to get past it, or if it was a bug. Otherwise, nice work!
Really neat mechanics and hand-drawn art style. I agree with the above comment that sounds could really add to the fun. I wanted to hear chanting and epic lightning strikes. :)
Awesome job! I saved the village with only 3 people left. Loved the concept and the little dialogue scenes with each villager. And a very satisfying conclusion. It would be funny to play more on the guilt of firing each one, like having them yelp as they fly through the air. :)
BTW, in the "low" performance version, I was unable to use WASD to move. I had to reload and pick the high performance version.
I like it! Really nice pixel art. Very interesting to make the game gradually harder by lowering stats. I got to the end but didn't win. It's a little harsh to start from the beginning when you die. :)
Really hard! :) But I dug the music and the graphics. Nice work!
This is a cool little tower defense with easy to learn gameplay. :) I like the art and limited palette.
Great entry!
Fun little game with a nice simple mechanic. I like the dialogue, and the fact that the trolls are just goofy looking creatures that seem to wander aimlessly. :D
Great entry!
I laughed at the idea that an ambulance driver would drive to a hospital 1000 miles away, driving against the flow of traffic. ;) Otherwise, the gameplay is pretty solid for a Jam game, and luckily the hitboxes are forgiving enough that it is just the right amount of challenge.
Great entry!
Really hard, but I like the variety in each level. The mechanics support the theme really well -- and even has a bit of an educational aspect to it. Great entry! :)
I'm a fan of coop games like Space Alert and Red November, and originally thought of doing something like this for my entry, so I like this concept. It works quite well with the RTS mechanic. It took me a couple minutes to figure out what I was supposed to do, but once it got going, it felt like the right amount of frantic-ness.
I would be really interested to see a full polished version of this. :)
Great entry!
Once the beat kicked in and I was able to look around at the art, I had a smile on my face. I love the art and humor, especially the ending.
Great entry! :)
Really nice polish and atmosphere. I just couldn't figure out what the different hexes meant and what to do. e.g. the instructions say resources are at the top right -- did you mean the top left?
Otherwise, nice entry!
Cool art style, especially the frighteningly miserable Mr. X. Nice entry :)
I never really played a clicker before, but this held my interest for a while. I'm a big fan of "2001", so I really like the theme. A couple of basic sound effects would make a really big difference in feeding the desire for "just one more upgrade". :)
Great entry!
I like the hand drawn art and the wind animations. :) I found I could just camp at the bottom and kill the enemies when they spawned, which might be a gameplay bug. Otherwise, nice entry!
I really like the atmosphere of the sound effects and background art. The character art has personality, too. :)
I imagine English is probably not your first language -- the writing is probably the main things that could be improved, but otherwise it works. :)
Great entry!
Great little first game! Nice and simple mechanics, and I enjoyed watching the egg progress each turn.
Nice job!
A lot of bugs when trying to retry the level, but beyond that this is a solid little puzzler. Neat retro graphics, sfx, and music. And a really cute application of the theme.
Great entry!
Fun little game overall, even if the controls were pretty frustrating at times. I really want to know what's in the box now! :)
It took a while before I realized that the "Ship Construction" options were in a separate tab. Luckily I was still able to build it in time to win.
I think a few sound effects could have made quite a difference in making it feel more immersive. Otherwise, I liked your take on the theme.
Nice entry! :)
I made a tile-placing game as well. :) I like the element of keeping contiguous tiles together -- it was just enough planning to feel satisfying. It would be fun to explain the player needs to keep this one tree alive, and why it's so incredibly fragile. :D
The mood and character design were really striking. Would be interesting with a bit more time spent on gameplay. :)
Nice entry!
I like the simplicity of this one. I almost feel bad for killing so many ants lately (not really :). A little more variety in the foot stomping would be interesting, maybe to give the player a false sense of security before getting squashed. :)
Nice entry!
Very polished and spot on with the Blade Runner aesthetic, though I would have liked to see some more variation from the Tetris mechanics. Especially love the music and the opening text crawl. :)
Pretty cool idea. :) My first reaction was that I would rather have the left/right diagram closer to the center, where it would be easier to look at. But I guess having it in the upper left forces you to rely on the music instead. Congrats on a nice entry. :)
I like this one! Nice simple gameplay that fits the theme and solid presentation. I was able to go pretty fast with a horizontal row of number keys, though I always seemed to get Game Over immediately at level 7. Nice work!
Nice entry! I like the background text, the hand-drawn art style, and the mind-bending mechanics, even though it got a little frustrating with the shorter time limit. Good work! :)
Thanks @archimagus. Yes, the issues do matter quite a bit. :) I might tweak the difficulty down though. Thanks!
I wasn't able to complete a lap, but the physics and the sound effects were pretty fun. I agree with @adhesion that simplifying things could go a long way because the core concept is fun on its own. Congrats on a nice entry. :)
A nice take on the "simultaneous ghost" mechanic, and overall polished pixel art -- I especially like the ghost sprites :) Overall great entry!
I like this! Some extra polish could go a long way -- especially some sound effects. And maybe adding a secondary bonus, say by putting matching values next to each other. Overall nice entry :)
It was a little hard to control using a trackpad :) but otherwise, I like this interpretation of the theme -- the lighting, artwork, and a bit of tactical decision making. Nice entry :)
I like the isometric style of graphics, the detail of the "back up" beeps, and the random delivery items to add a little bit of variety. The controls were a bit tricky to get right, and little more variety in the map would have been nice. But otherwise, nice work :)
The noose was a little hard to use while using a trackpad on a laptop. :) Otherwise, this is a really sweet looking entry with a nice thematic use of mechanics. Nice work!
Loved the atmosphere and the added mystery of the detectives being murdered. However after the 7th time, I just randomly accused the butler and won without totally understanding how the clues came together. Despite that, I played this longer than any of the other entries because it had me intrigued. :) Great entry!
Clever concept and simple gameplay, but it works really well for the theme. :) The Game Over screen is pretty neat, too. Nice work!
A little frustrating at first, but it's an interesting mechanic that works well with the theme. I'm impressed by the number of different elements here -- the sword, vines, crystals, etc. Nice work!
Love it! Especially the twist of buying a new soundtrack. :) Overall probably the best entry I've played so far.
Love it! I was thinking of doing a train game too, so I'm glad to see this. I like the sounds and the tension of trying to fix tracks before the loco gets there. My main wish is that you have a couple of seconds to click tracks before the engine starts. The 3rd level really had me stuck. Nice entry! :)
Surprisingly realistic drunken physics, and just the right amount of difficulty to be fun. :) The train stops make you think about where you are going to land in order to lunge out the door. Love the music and sounds too. Congrats on a great entry :)
I like the simple mechanics and the even though the creatures are a bit fast, it wasn't too difficult. Also, nice pixel art -- especially the zombie/gremlin things. :) Nice work overall!
Nice little game! A good example of doing a lot with a little. I liked the idea of collecting the key parts. Great work. =)
Note: On Firefox, when I hit spacebar, it scrolled down the page. I think your HTML5 engine needs to preventDefault on that key event.
Nice simple, overall mechanic that fits the theme. :) Unfortunately, the physics/movement was pretty hard to use. Otherwise, congrats on a nice entry :)
Really polished overall -- nice pixel art and 8-bit sounds. :) The dialogue at the beginning adds a lot of fun background to an otherwise simple game. Great entry!
Nice simple gameplay and execution of the theme. I especially like the walking animation. :)
For some reason I wasn't able to interact with the switch at the bottom of the 2nd screen. But otherwise, I really liked the concept and overall atmosphere of it. Nice work!
@jul-li Good point on the survival aspect of the theme. =) If you get a bad hand, you can use Travis to deal a new hand.
@adrien-tremblay It's possible, but just like the historical event, it's very unlikely. =) Using your special abilities is key.
@moooks I agree with having the special abilities as UI, but I ran out of time. =)
@pkenney Wow, thanks for the super detailed feedback! Yeah, there are probably a couple of bugs around the async timing of events that will take a bit of work to unravel. And thanks for the feedback on Bowie -- it took me longer than I would have liked to decide what his bonus would be, and that didn't leave me much time left to add polish. =)
This is my kind of game. =) I like the very simple choice of deciding where to click, but there are subtle implications for each choice. I also like the animation and audio feedback for every turn. It made me feel like my "kingdom" was growing, even if it was also decaying. The difficulty curve is maybe a bit easy, as I won on my first try, but it was really close. Nice work!
Really cool graphic design and overall mood! The controls were pretty easy to figure out and use, which is usually a struggle for jam games like this. I just wish I had a little more time on the first couple of days to get my bearings and build things up a bit. Great work!
I like it! I just wish there were a bit more time in order to give me more of a false sense of security =) I like the Text-to-Speech and pixelly graphics. It all works together really well. Nice job!
Really polished pixel art and chip music. =) I like the frantic gameplay, but wish it would ramp up a little more gradually so I can build up a better defense -- even if I know it'll get vaporized eventually. =) Nice work!
I've been participating in game jams for like 15 years now, and this is the most I've ever laughed playing an entry. =) Awesome job!
I like it! A good minimal tower defense game with just enough decisions to keep things interesting for a while. =)
I like the idea of mashing up Tetris with a platformer. Nice pixel art and chip music, too. Nice work!
Neat application of the theme but, wow this is hard! =) My best was like 4 seconds. But I liked how you could interact with the furniture. Just wish the physics were a little more forgiving =)
The zombie grunts and background music really added a lot to the mood. Nice work!
I like the imaginative backstory and the nice pixel graphics. Maybe it could use a bit more work on the difficulty curve. =) The first wave takes a really long time to start, and with just one enemy, seems a bit slow going. Then I died a couple of times on the 2nd wave.
This is a really interesting take on the theme, and I kind of liked the Carmen Sandiego-style gameplay around the fictional map (great names!). It got tedious pretty fast though. Maybe if there were only 2 or 3 characters in each region to talk to. Some music would really help with the mood, too, since there isn't much visual action. Nice work!
This is a cool little game. Nice controls and sound feedback. I also like that impending doom is accompanied by a jazzy beat. =)
Really polished art and music, and novel take on the theme. In the itch.io window, the game only takes up one quarter of the viewport though (firefox on mac). UI was a little confusing at first, but otherwise an excellent entry!
Pretty cool take on the theme. I especially like the elevator music in the shop while all the protestors are outside waiting to tear everything down =D
I like the simplicity of the game, for what it's trying to simulate. Some sound effects would go a long way I think. Something to really grow your hated of the agents. =)
Love the concept, and the snail design, though I think it would be funny if it was a lot smaller so you have to keep looking down at the floor to keep track of it. Also, the French cuisine seems very authentic -- boiled frog with a side of cigarettes. =D
I like the big chunky pixels and screen effects. Would really like to have some sound effects for the zombies to really add to the atmosphere. =)
This is pretty cool, and a great take on the theme!
I like the pixel art and the sound effects.
It took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to do, and I still didn't totally understand how it worked. I think I wanted more challenge in deciding what to put on the cart. There seems to be a tradeoff of having more people to defend it vs cargo, which is nice.
The overall idea has a lot of potential if you wanted to expand it even further (routes to different cities, etc.)
Nicely done!
Ohhh, I forgot to make it public. It should work now. Thanks, @real-human-1000!
@purpledartfrog Thanks for the heads up. What browser are you using?
Thanks @purpledartfrog and @rngames, both bugs should be fixed now.
Amazing art, sound, and mood, but the mouse events appear to be broken once the game begins. I think the scale is off off or something? I can't click on anything, except an invisible hitbox for the fruit in the middle of the screen. This is on Chrome and Firefox.
Really nice entry. =) I liked the varied mechanics traversing the same territory back-and-forth. And the final journey really elevated the game into something special. Nice work!
Neat entry with a chill vibe. I like that I can make a diamond ring in seconds, but I still can only afford an old pickup truck. =) I couldn't figure out how to make a feather, etc. though, so I never actually fulfilled any deliveries.
I agree with the other comments that it could use some instructions. I got to the first planet by trial-and-error but after that, I couldn't figure out how to get further. There's an interesting idea in there, though. =)
Bravo! I loved the character design and the overall gameplay. It was maybe a little easy, knowing that they all went for the same spot and you could camp out, but it still took some skill to find the culprits.
The ending was really and impressive and funny.
Awesome job!
It took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to do, but I did end up finishing it. Very surreal. Loved the atmosphere!
I tried starting this in Firefox and Chrome, but it crashes the tab when the progress bar hits about 80%.
Nice to see a board game submission, and I love the description text, which fits the theme really well.
I've never used screentop before. It would be nice to flip through all the cards and maybe have more help text on each card, since the rules are a little hard to imagine without having the actual physical components. Everything was "locked" when I tried it.
I think a play-through video would go a long way to help us get a feel for it.
It would also be fun to see more focus on "fetch" side-quests, given the jam theme. =)
Overall, nice job, and good luck on future versions. =)
This is cool! Impressive that you were able to make a solid tactical game in a short time. Hovering over the cards was a bit frustrating as the jumped up and down. Otherwise, great entry!
Interesting mini-game. It was little hard to figure out where the hitboxes were. It might be fun to add more decisions about which items to grab... e.g. maybe you only get 5 tries to grab the best things. Nice work!
Nice simple rules that are clearly explained.
The grid could use some fun graphics, and you could even include some cut-and-fold dice with fun glyphs on them.
I could even see this as a fun game idea for mobile.
Nice, quick entry!
You said you were short on time, but I'm impressed with what you came up with here. The animations and sound all added to the mood, and I really liked the final boatman scene.
I didn't explore more than one ending, but the short experience I had was cool and unique. Nice work!
I like the setup of having the drill sargeant yelling at you, and the overall intense mood of it, even if it's just a small pixel art game.
It would be nice to have some sound effects, especially to go along with the music, which is really good.
I delivered (I think) supplies to the NW camp, but I didn't get any feedback on whether it worked or not.
Nice work!
Congrats on finishing your first jam. =)
I had to restart a few times because I got stuck in the clouds or I got stuck behind a building, or I couldn't move left after passing the mailbox.
But by the 3rd level, I did like the feel of flapping every couple seconds to glide through the air, and hearing my pigeon sounds. I also like the end graphics of the delivered letter.
Nice simple gameplay, but it really works for the theme. I definitely felt the time pressure. It's surprising how just racing point-to-point in a maze can be pretty fun.
Bug: I got stuck at first in fullscreen, because the map extended off of the left edge of the monitor and I couldn't find the triangle.
Also, audio would have added a lot.
Otherwise, nice work. =)
@aetherswitch Thanks, I'm glad you like it! The gameplay is based on a tabletop game called Sagrada, so you might want to look into that.
I'm also thinking of making this into a mobile app, so if you have any requests, let me know. :)
@steffo The highest is Pope, which you hit at 100. The ranks are every 20 pts.
