LD35 — Shapeshift

dröm by Danny Gallagher 2016-04-18T02:13:00

This game is breathtakingly beautiful, omg!
It's a nice way of thinking about the theme, too. It's a shame it's so short (unless I missed something?)
It can be hard to figure out what you need to do, but since you have all the time in the world, it's not a problem at all.

Very good work! =D

Shifting planes by PatrickAartssen 2016-04-18T01:43:00

Pretty cool game! I've finished all the levels, and haven't found any obvious bugs.
Most of the levels are pretty straightforward, and obviously that hurts your game's duration, but it was a cool progression. Difficulty was nicely balanced too! (It could have gotten harder without issues, too.)
I liked the kinda toon ambience! The rabbit, cloud, fish and bat were cute, and fit right in the decor, but the blob was a bit weird. Maybe he could have been an animal too, maybe a snail?

Overall, nice game! =D

Another comment, this time with ratings. =)

LD46 — Keep it alive

Coronary Flypass by squirmonkey 2020-04-20T03:38:52Z

Very good & fun game! That basket just goes everywhere you don't want it to. The voiceovers were the touch of perfection on top, they really took the game to the next level. Very well done!

Wasmball by itsarjunsinh 2020-04-20T03:18:15Z

Congratulations on your first game jam! This game is admittedly very barebones, but it does work as expected and fluidly. It's also good, mindless fun! It would definitely benefit from some kind of highschore mechanics, so I can see how good I did on this try! Maybe make the red balls arrive faster after a while too?

This is not an innovative game, as it's basically Flappy Bird without the illusion of horizontal movement. It's also not moody or humorous, so I would recommend, on your next participation, opt out of those categories if you don't need them, it'll give your game more accurate ratings. :)

Oh, and props for making a web-based game that I can play without having to download anything!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Woofice Chair! by JorgeGameDev 2020-10-11T02:08:59Z

What the fuck did I just play. 5/5 ⭐

Loop Invader by Ale 2020-10-18T15:00:19Z

Absolutely fantastic game, loved every minute (past the first five where I was figuring out what the hell I should do).

I kept using if(!9) blocks to isolate sections, that worked so well I barely used anything else.

Rogot Slide [Prototype] by itsdanidre 2020-10-11T01:13:01Z

Great fun! Interesting game! The mechanic was cute and on-point for this jam. Loved how you gave star ratings to every level (with the great sound effect)!

It's a nitpick, but you introduce new mechanics every level: you could have let us explore the existing ones for a few levels, finding interactions between them rather that completely new elements. And it would have been less work for you to code less elements, wouldn't it?

Bonus points for programming a full and functional menu at the start of your game, and actually having a tutorial.

Escape The Rings by Andrew White 2020-10-11T03:22:18Z

It's not bad, but it could be better. The controls feel sluggish at times, nervous at others, depending on the direction of the ring you're in. No music, no sounds upon death or in menu selections. No button to return to the menu, or to close the game ever (had to Alt+F4 out)! Graphics are minimalistic/futuristic, which could have worked if the rest of the game backed it up, but as is it feels somewhat soulless.

Not very imaginative on the theme, it's very very literally "stuck in a loop". The idea itself is pretty commonly seen in mobile games, like [this one I found on Google Play in two minutes](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.taninty.endlessloop).

Now, I'm very critical, but there's potential. It's a nice game, not glitched out to hell, it just works. There's just a lot to gain from small refinements and digging a bit deeper for ideas next time.

Did 14/18/18/27 for my best times. Nice touch to back them up somewhere so I keep them when I close the game. :)

in Dreams you can't find clocks by OmarMoBadr 2020-10-12T14:29:57Z

Good idea and nice execution! I found the text was painfully slow, and the lack of control while it showed, combined to the lack of any music, made the cinematics drag on. But good job on a full story-driven adventure game with a nice plot twist :)

Creed by dimlight 2020-10-11T14:30:41Z

Really cool game, with a classic mechanic!

Side note, the "grave" key isn't detected on my Canadian French keyboard. I had to fetch another one.

I tried really hard, but couldn't find another ending than [A]. :(

Lily The Bee by Vivien Fargette 2020-10-18T15:21:01Z

Very cute game, I was not ready!

A Day in the Woods by ditam 2020-10-14T03:16:57Z

Great entry! Superb, and the music is astounding! I got glitched out a few times, (especially with the "wolves at the south" that triggered after "I misremembered, he was brave" somehow) but it was always easy to reset and I could explore the whole story :)

Lucky Lefty Loves Loops by TheBookSnail 2020-10-11T03:33:48Z

What a twist! Loved it!

Looping by guimoliveira 2020-10-18T13:57:54Z

The puzzles were great, and it was nice to encourage creative thinking! But sending players back a bunch of levels is definitely not fun and makes players afraid to try stuff, in a game about trying stuff.

Despite watching the solution, my robot won't jump high enough to pass level 18?

Awesome game, great potential, great visuals, great music!

Maze Service by Oshawatt123 2020-10-11T15:29:11Z

Great concept, really loved it! Dredging the config file was challenging and somewhat fun, it felt like an accomplishment to make it work.

When testing if I had my door-passcodes right, I would often walk into a room and backpedal immediately, on instinct. This causes you to become stuck outside the room somehow?

I see lots of potential here!

Out the Door by davidwesst 2020-10-14T03:03:56Z

Funny, but it gets kinda repetitive. Expand on the variations you've already introduced, maybe?

I just never made my bed :P

Space Loop by HungryCatGames 2020-10-14T02:55:03Z

Good idea, and I like to play some breakout games every once in a while!

The way your cursor moves the whole screen made it kind of hard to aim in original angles, which reduced variety. Maybe looping around the arena could be done with Up/down || W/S?

You'd also really benefit from a background music, the ambiance was a little flat! Good continuation!

What's up? by Tuatarian 2020-10-11T00:51:43Z

Spectacular idea, music is on point, graphics are minimalistic and very well suited to the gameplay, I applaud the choice.

This game is IMPOSSIBLE. I might have brute-forced my way through another level if only there was a way to tell how far along I was. Something as simple as the wall colors moving up the rainbow to red would have done the trick.

I took me a while to realize that I don't have to hold down the mouse button while I'm playing, only clicking to start. As a result, I died often still holding down the button, and was for a second or so my character would respawn/rush to my pointer/die/play the death sound every few frames. The noise spam is pretty aggressive, I'd recommend making sure it's a different click event for every life!

The Bards Tale by CursedSoldier 2020-10-11T01:36:03Z

I liked it! The music was on point, the graphics were perfectly fitting, the theme was there, it was interesting, it was funny...

But it was way too simple, I only had to loop once. By the way, a way to track how far along the loop you are and an animation when looped would have helped a lot. I feel like it was your main mechanic, so it would deserve more polish.

Very reminiscent of [Half-Minute Hero](https://store.steampowered.com/app/214830/Half_Minute_Hero_Super_Mega_Neo_Climax_Ultimate_Boy/), a great game!

No Grave Too Shallow by Skiffage 2020-10-11T00:38:33Z

Very smooth controls, it plays exactly how you expect! It needs focus on player retention though: I almost quit before realizing that you can press E to open graves, and I grew tired of only ever finding the same tomb to explore (with no differences in the overworld).

Orbit by DaSpikeyBoss 2020-10-14T16:43:31Z

It's a nice game! I thought the solid back side of the ship was a shield for a while, that could add an interesting element of strategy?

Also, please add autoshoot so your game doesn't destroy space bars as much :P

Looper by Shortbread 2020-10-11T02:55:42Z

Amazing. You thought of everything. That splendid title screen animation, too! That level-select screen, completely hidden the first time around, but still there and gorgeous and with fitting graphics!

The controls were perfect, responsive, unambiguous. They could be frustrating at times because they're not what we're used too, but the usual control scheme of loops is weird and ambiguous, I like yours better and it was easy to pick up.

Superb game, a masterpiece among HTML5 games, even more for a game jam. 18/5 ⭐

Project R.O.O.M by Arad HamidSamiee 2020-10-11T13:54:23Z

You turned the fear to the max there! Great job, the visuals and music were on point.

The game was somewhat lagging for me (on a <1 year old machine, but still a laptop), which made standing on the platform challenging at times. I often jumped back just to immediately fall on the button on the other side, answering a question I hadn't had time to read. :P

Really wish there was a way to actually finish the game! I got to, like, question 40, and *won't dream ever again*.

Clockmaker by Tristan Mansfield 2020-10-11T16:34:38Z

The artwork works great, and the music is lovely! Very nice job creating a time-loop engine that's just the perfect level of complexity and perfectly clear to the player, down to the "stuff resets at midnight" at was a master's touch.

I quit the game after a while and lost my progress, and the game being quite hard, I didn't have the resolve to work back to where I was. A level-select would be nice. :)

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Kore o Kawasu by lilkrit 2022-04-19T00:52:40Z

This game is splendid! But it clashes a lot with the very barebones menu, and the fact that you can just cheat / fall off is kinda sad. Especially since you have to Alt+F4 when you do fall down. Still pretty fun, keep giving it your all!

Those Along The Way by egawag 2022-04-10T17:02:25Z

Splendid, nostalgic, smooth. Best entry I've played so far!

Having the full poem in the credits would have made a nice touch to tie the loop, to further think back and recall the people we met.

You Are A Bomb by Benjamin Halko 2022-04-04T01:35:48Z

Really sweet! It took me a while to realize I could double-jump, that was really handy. Nice job on the smooth background music, it takes off the edge!

Stuck In The Hypertext by RealTanHen 2022-04-10T16:25:27Z

Nice navigation mechanic, and great work on the mood of the game. The game was bigger than the size of my screen (yeah, it's not the most recent) and wouldn't resize or go full-screen, but I could still complete it.

It took me a while to figure out that there was something to be done, not just lore-exposition and scene-transition. Maybe it was just because (spoilers!) ||the drawers|| were barely visible on my screen, so it was hard to click.

It's still an enjoyable game, you did great!

Avoidance Advanced by KidderTTV 2022-04-03T03:48:00Z

Nice! Quick idea, you could make the planet another color so it's more obvious that it's an alien planet. I was confused why the aliens were coming at us from Earth. :P

focus by r_p 2022-04-18T23:50:40Z

Not bad, but it does lack a little polish. A (toggleable?) timer would go a long way in adding replayability.

LD54 — Limited Space

Cramped Choices, a Lifetime Dilemmas! by Tommy 2023-10-09T23:56:19Z

At first I thought I was competing with other players of this game, trying to pick choices that others wouldn't take - outsmarting them. Then I realize that the options were random, and that pretty much killed to fun for me: having no control just didn't feel good.

It's a shame, too, because the use of the theme is smart, the graphics are nice, the game animates well, the music is absolutely on point. (Why can't I give it the 5⭐ it deserves?)

Just being allowed to watch people _enter_ the spaces, and having to remember where people went, would give the player agency and be much more interesting.

Dimensional Grove: The Rotational Odyssey by brandann 2023-10-06T01:18:01Z

dimensional grove.png

Using S to change dimensions didn't work for me, but right-click did. Like others, I had a hard time figuring out how to recharge at first. Actually, it also took a while to figure out how moving worked (maybe draw a circular path on the ground to convey the idea?), and what the bar at the bottom meant (that one's on me, it's pretty obvious).

Once I got the idea, I had a blast. It looks very nice, 5⭐, and it quickly becomes natural to move in a circle.

There was a playthrough where I pushed the first boss too far behind, behind my own tracks. Not being able to look back became problematic. I had to shoot him from the far side (love how the projectiles have gravity btw) and it worked out, but maybe you could make it impossible for bosses to get pushed so far back?

The HTML5 version of the game didn't capture my mouse, so there was once a moment where I turned too far, clicked outside of the game hoping to fire, then couldn't recover because putting my mouse back in the game meant aiming away from the boss. I'd definitely recommend others play the downloadable version of the game.

One of the best entries I've seen in the Compo so far, nice job!

LD#54 - Meteor Shower - C64 by Endurion 2023-10-20T20:29:34Z

It is very nostalgic! Graphics are on point, and the game plays well. As others have said, sometimes it's unforgiving or plain impossible, but that just makes it more "like games used to be" in my head.

I died stupidly of running out of oxygen because I didn't realize I'd have to go back inside after a while. It felt bad the first time, but then I knew, and a new layer of strategy was revealed. It's honestly pretty cool.

Kefnac, the Word Grid Game by Greytyphoon 2023-10-06T01:29:35Z

@oadt and @ace17, thank you so much, I'm glad you had fun!

@tjm, uh, woops? I'll try to trim the offensive words, yeah, it didn't happen in my playtests somehow and slipped my mind. Thanks for the comment and the review :)

Societies Stranding by UnitedFailures 2023-10-09T23:30:48Z

The end is so abrupt! It just suddenly teleported me to the main menu, with a new banner saying "High Score: 34".

It was nice and immersive, with intuitive controls and a clear goal. Took me a while to understand I had a limited time, not limited fuel (I know, I should have read). Also, I lost some time trying to take pods to the Sun, not realizing it's not a planet on the mini-map.

A solid entry, nice work!

Gear Mania by Curtis Pelissier 2023-10-20T18:57:44Z

First off, it's absolutely splendid. Really, gorgeous.

Controls were simple, straightforward. I grasped the gameplay loop right away. It makes sense with the theme.

Why is it IMPOSSIBLE? Seriously, I've been playing for 15 minutes, and I still can't kill more than two enemies in a playthrough. I haven't even gotten to the part where I manage inventory, because I inevitably die before my bag gets remotely full. The first upgrades did nothing: my damage stayed the same, the damage I took stayed the same. And why are they so expensive? It takes 6+ runs to buy the first level of each!

For an "idle" game, it demands a lot of attention!

So there are some pretty glaring balance issues, but I think with a bit of tweaking this could be fun!

(Now at 20+ minutes, I just bought Armor L2, and I still take 5 damage a hit. I'm rage quitting :P)

Hazel & Hector by cassowary 2023-10-20T20:35:40Z

So relaxing! The music is great. <3

Rainbow Trader by eeperdeheap 2023-10-10T00:18:38Z

Rainbow Trader.png

3 red/orange × 3 orange/yellow × 3 yellow/green × 3 green/cyan × 3 cyan/blue × 1 (???) blue/white = 243 red/white.

This game is only about figuring out this formula. It's tedious, I won't lie, but I had some kind of scientific-method fun making sure I got it right. No replay value, though.

And then... the door opens, but I couldn't walk through? Nothing happens? No "you win!" screen for my trouble? :P

CERT by tjm 2023-10-20T20:14:29Z

Absolutely incredible! The quality is superb, the pencil-y font and images are splendid and really fit the mood. It was a wild, immersive adventure. The puzzles were super fun. It was a challenge to do them with no physical support, but still possible. Best game I've seen in this compo.

Minefield Rehearsal by yifengqing 2023-10-06T00:33:16Z

Minefield Rehearsal.png Interesting twist, pretty well executed too.

I didn't think the chalk-like graphics really went with the theme or with anything else? They do look nice, and consistent throughout the game, but what does chalk have to do with limited space, or mines, or cars?

I got a few glitches, too: I was never able to use the Wrench skill or the Car-Shield skill, they never had a number of use and I couldn't select them. Also in the screenshot, you see that I only have one car, but when that car exploded later I still had one car (then I died when that exploded).

IMHO, it's annoying to have to hold down space to send cars, that's the "main feature", the thing you do most. I suggest moving the control tower by simply left-clicking the yellow squares, then using WASD to send cars.

As others said, you need descriptions for what the skills do before you make people choose. I still don't know what the Wrench and Car-Shield do, and only vaguely understand the sonar.

I know this sounds critical, but I really did have a good time flexing my old Minesweeper skills. That third level is a challenge! Good job 👍

Berg Jump by jds 2023-10-20T19:04:45Z

Berjump_scr.png Nice game, easy controls, feels fair! I had fun.

Ruins Runner by Ackbad 2023-10-06T00:38:24Z

I also wasn't able to run it. It seems I don't have a java compiler installed, and my OS is at a loss with what do do with a .jar file.

Disco Seducium by najjaman 2023-10-06T00:49:54Z

I suck at rhythm games, and I sucked at you game too :P

At first I panicked when I saw the letters S and F, and started hunting on my keyboard. Once I figured the shape of ESDF I was fine, but why not use the very common WASD?

Stuff was happening and I didn't know what I was doing and I was bad at everything and in the end it still worked. Maybe the game is actually a genius metaphor for dating ;) Shame it wasn't longer!

Compact Factory by BrokenBridge 2023-10-06T01:50:33Z

compact factory.png

It's cute, but needs goals. Maybe after producing 1000 Goods the Power Plants in the random rotation get replaced by Giga Plants. Maybe you get an achievement for producing 1000 Goods under 5 minutes.

The Factory are boosted by adjacent drillers, but there are no drillers? Should it say Miners?
