LD46 — Keep it alive

Twitch Feeds by StaNov 2020-04-27T20:38:27Z

I really like this idea-- had to play it without the Twitch integration, but I could totally see this being a thing that people play while on a BRB screen or anything like that.

Loved the art and the music was perfect. Well done!

@73N: KEEP. HIM. ALIVE. by OldPeculier 2020-04-30T04:49:30Z

This is a a very cool crafting experience, it's too bad I'm horrible at these types of games! Really dug the graphics, especially with the retro monitor vibe. That being said, I had a harder time reading the text on screen. Could have used a background or something.

Being a noob at this games, I think I need a little more hand holding to get really into it, but know that this is a really neat interpretation of the theme! Good work. Very cool stuff.

Soccer Life Story by jrap 2020-04-27T20:45:31Z

I really dug this game. A sports theme RPG makes me think of a career mode that I would actually want to play. Some skill required, but still a whole life sim (I envision a Persona-style life sim sort of thing) that impacts your player and skills and career. :)

Really great job!

IT tycoon by shide 2020-05-05T05:20:13Z

This is one of the coolest entries I've seen. I managed to spend all my money before I knew what I was doing, but get the gist of it. Would love to see some AI integrated into it when you have more than a couple of days to put something together.

Really loved the feel for it, and as much as I appreciate Twitch, seeing it on Mixer would be pretty rad as well. Especially if you add some competitive elements between "corporate associates".

When I played, I didn't have anyone else on, so without that I don't think I get the full experience of the game. Still, a SUPER cool entry. Thanks!

Great work!

Mauritius: The Last Odyssey by Greet 2020-05-04T03:44:37Z

This feels like a pretty cool idea. Love the graphics and the idea of keeping something alive during it's journey back to a safehouse/zoo/science lab/new planet (that's my take on the story). :)

Hope you get a chance to do some post-jam work and flesh it out to completion! Would love to make a whole army of dodos. Great work!

Tablet Force by AdamV 2020-04-28T05:48:41Z

I was soooo close to finishing it (I think). Caught myself holding my breathe a few times over. Really dug the aesthetics, and appreciated that the first few levels let me learn how to handle myself before stepping it up a notch or two.

Really impressed! Would love to see some more puzzles or interaction with consoles too, but what you have here is pretty fun as it is. Well done!

Bug-Free Zone by GastricSparrow 2020-04-30T15:16:06Z

I had a really rough time getting this going, but once I did it was pretty cool little programming logic puzzle solving game! Really could use in-game instructions, even though they are on the hosting page. Or possibly include them in the download as a READ-ME-FIRST.txt or something. I didn't realize I needed to connect to the little grey block beside the play button, which got me stuck for like 20 minutes. :P

All in all though, the experience was solid. Great graphics, audio, and overall presentation! Great job!

Stay-in by TQV5964 2020-04-30T15:24:02Z

This was a very cool little game. Great audio, graphics, and simple gameplay. Really liked the idea that pieces of meat attracted the little people outside of the circle. Made me LOL a bit at the idea. :) Only thing I would have liked is an explanation of what the different colours or tints on the people meant. I think I got it, but it would have been good to know in game.

As noted by @pilarius-- a thumbnail or little video would go a LONG way with this game. Didn't know what to expect, but it's pretty awesome and people are definitely missing out.

Awesome job!

Keep It Burning by _benhumphries 2020-04-30T04:55:31Z

Really dug the low-fi graphics and particle effects. Also, found it strangely satisfying to throw the firemen, trucks, and helicopters into the fire. Made me chuckle. Great work!

Root Quest by thebreakfast 2020-04-30T14:30:50Z

This is a really cool concept. Had a rough time in the dungeon that I found, but that's probably more of a skill problem than anything.

Really loved wondering around in the overworld. Really satisfying feeling exploring the environment and finding a place to go. I also really liked the trails in the platform stages, seeing the path that I took. Made it a bit easier to find my way back to where I died. :)

Really cool game! Great entry!

FIREKATANA by DPS2004 2020-05-04T14:37:48Z

Wow! That music at the game over screen was perfect. Between the graphics, audio, and the simplistic (yet interesting) gameplay, this was an amazing entry. Really liked how the dash mechanic added something of a strategy to it.

Too bad I'm bad at games in general. :D

Great work!

Fish Motel by Lou Bagel 2020-04-23T05:10:02Z

Welp. That was a bloody fish massacre! The bear was eating well with my skills.

Really liked this. Made me LOL when it started and found the music and application of the theme very interesting. Good work.

Life Light by Madbarron 2020-04-30T05:16:38Z

Took a couple of tries to get the hang of it, but when I did I went solid on it until I was rescued. Really liked the sound design parts, and reminded me of a friendlier version of Don't Starve. Wanted to explore the forest some more, but didn't want to miss my chance with being saved. :)

Also, this spider rock was the thing tempting me to explore some more. :)

Great entry!

Life Light by Madbarron 2020-05-04T03:21:43Z

@madbarron -- Wow. I guess I have some magical powers, because I have no idea how or when that came up during my game. I especially don't know the secrets codes. Wish I could be of more help! If you think there is something I can do, ping me and I'd be happy to help. :)

Chill Thrive by JDK2209 2020-05-04T04:16:36Z

This game was great. Easily one of the most original interpretations of the theme that I've played so far this jam. The music reminded me heavily of SimCity 2000, which is a great soundtrack IMHO. Really great little game, although I didn't find it as "chill" as described as I was frantically trying to balance the the entire environment to keep it alive.

Would have helped with an in-game tutorial, but I found the instructions and figured out my problem with the CO2.

Great entry!

Immortality of Pain by Zvyaga 2020-05-04T03:28:23Z

The sound design was awesome. Narration, sound, and music all together made it really great! Gameplay was alright, although it felt like I needed a perfect run to keep enough "life" to make it to the next "replenishment". That being said, it could just be my lack of skills.

Mood and tone were great! Very good job!

Future of Delivery by guy_without_id 2020-04-28T05:57:49Z

Neat game! Would have loved some sound, and I felt like the railing kept getting in my way. That was probably the point, but couldn't really tell if I was close to the person or not.

That being said, I really liked how you introduced the mechanics in the beginning before giving me some "real life" orders. Would have loved to see a more interactive basket filling system, and ported over to a simple VR title where you're the future of fulfilment. :)

Overall, great job!

Scrambl'd by StarErik 2020-05-04T04:02:49Z

This is fantastic. Totally brought me back to playing the original Crazy Castle featuring Bugs Bunny on my Game Boy brink back in elementary.

I don't think I need to explain how great this is. You hit the nail on the head with this one, and provided a GB ROM to boot. This great! Well done!

Can you look after my plants? by the_martijn 2020-04-28T06:08:03Z

I really liked this game. The deduction puzzle aspect of each figuring out each plant before you get it unlocked is pretty awesome. Loved the progression you get by getting those tips if you do well enough.

Graphics were great, I loved the bit of sound, and the little intro animation was a nice touch for sure.

Would have liked a "skip to end" or "wait for X days" shortcut, as I murdered all the plants pretty quickly early on, but that's just a little thing. This was a very polished, on point entry. Good luck with it!

Bakeneko no Ko by makkurataichou 2020-04-23T05:20:05Z

This game made me quite tense. Loved the art and the story. Wanted to know more about the different demons and creatures throughout. Like a beastiary or something.

Really cool work!

Monster Apocalypse by Abiral 2020-04-30T14:42:59Z

I am horrible at this game, but it makes up for my lack of skill with all its charm! Really liked the intro, and I really did LOL when the monkey said "LOL". Very cute game based on the theme, and really dug the graphics and audio design for the whole experience.

Very solid entry! Well done and good luck!

Little Shop of Wall Street by davidwesst 2020-04-28T06:10:27Z

@thebreakfast - Thanks for the feedback! The plan for the computer was a stock broker buy/sell screen that would let you make money to feed the plant, and ultimately choose to buy whatever food you want to buy it. Glad you noticed the "Dads" art-- that is my first real, in-game pixel art and your comment made me quite happy! :)

Little Shop of Wall Street by davidwesst 2020-04-28T06:11:17Z

@abiral -- Completely agree. Started down that path, and got caught up in just getting it working. Hopefully I'll get an updated version out there after the jam is complete.

Thanks for the feedback!

Little Shop of Wall Street by davidwesst 2020-04-29T04:06:09Z

Thanks @madbarron! Very appreciated. :v:

Little Shop of Wall Street by davidwesst 2020-04-30T15:25:45Z

Thanks @fajpaj! I've actually continued working on the game since the end of the jam, and things are already getting better. Hoping to participate in the next one too and get a more complete entry. Thanks for the feedback and for playing!

Little Shop of Wall Street by davidwesst 2020-05-02T18:53:22Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

@amkingtrp -- I've hit that snag too. It's because the game (as it is now) is very RNG heavy, so you have to hope for the best rolls when you get some food. Post-jam version should give you the ability to earn money (that's what the computer was supposed to be for) so you can earn what you can and then buy the food necessary.

@kekkodude -- Hahaha! That's awesome. I feel for your in-game family too. :)

@oxters -- Thanks! I think the potential is there too. I think my team's brain was bigger than the time we had to commit. I've continued working on it post-jam, and hope to have a much more final version ASAP for those interested.

Little Shop of Wall Street by davidwesst 2020-05-02T18:54:25Z

@goldfish-games -- Only the greatest minds come up with similar ideas. :)

Little Shop of Wall Street by davidwesst 2020-05-04T03:53:10Z

@jdk2209 Totally agree. Been working through some post-jam polish to understand what it takes to put together are polished entry for the next jam. Thanks for playing!

Little Shop of Wall Street by davidwesst 2020-05-04T03:55:42Z

@starerik Haha! That's fantastic. Was saying to @goldfish-games how only the greatest devs love Little Shop of Horrors and make games that resemble the original idea.

Thanks for the feedback too! Was thinking about animations, and now I'm attempting to learn them post-jam to polish this thing up. Hopefully next jam, I'll have the skills and knowledge to know if my ideas are bigger than my skillset. :)

Sound is a must for sure. Thanks again!

Little Shop of Wall Street by davidwesst 2020-05-11T22:06:44Z

@stanov I am pretty new to making games and thanks for playing my own little creation.

Sound was definitely something that I won't miss again. I didn't realize how much effort going the distance for LD would be. Next time around I'm hoping to be a bit more organized and make sure I have time for the music and sound (I actually wrote a little looping song, but couldn't get it into the game).

Again, very much appreciate the feedback. See you around the jams. :)

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Cycle of Pawmerce by graebor 2020-10-09T16:52:00Z

This was a great game. Totally felt like a speedrun version of one of my favourite SNES classic games, Uncharted Waters. My inability to use a keyboard was my only downfall as I kept hitting escape to close the port menu

Great submission! Well done team. :)

Liftman by gamechoy 2020-10-12T03:15:03Z

This was a weird, but really interesting game that will stick with me. Really enjoyed the dialogue puzzles, and there are still a couple that I have no idea how to solve. Managed to get to the end with no more sacrifices/chances left on my second try, but think I'll head back into it to try and solve those couple that I just can't seem to understand.

Also, the void monster really surprised me, but in a good way. Got really dark, really fast.

Great work!

Purgatory is a Music Store by MattWoelk 2020-10-09T21:12:45Z

This game just felt great. Chilled me out over my lunch break and helped tone my day down a bit. Absolutely lovely experience that everyone should play to take a couple of minutes to clear your mind.

Will play again. You're all great.

Suit Loop by Greytyphoon 2020-10-11T14:36:43Z

This was a really cool interpretation of the theme. Also liked that a gamejam game was made with digital versions of core IRL games (cards and tokens). I think this is one of those games that I would bring up on my office computer to burn away time over coffee, like Solitaire or or any of those classic Windows games.

Very good submission! Well done.

The Turning Point by zaibakk 2020-10-12T02:42:45Z

Really liked the interpretation of the theme. I definitely appreciate someone seeing the "stuck in a loop" that many of us experience everyday. Given, I'm biased (see my submission for the reference).

Really liked the narrative with the lady from the subway and liked the little games for each part of my day.

Had a few challenges with the controls and getting the dialogue to progress (didn't realize I had to click on the PC box and use the keyboard too) and found the subway thing to get a bit tedious with the mouse (would have preferred the keyboard).

All in all, I really thought this was my kind of game and overall experience! Great work!

Hoops by Captain Nakou 2020-10-11T14:23:59Z

This is the first literal "stuck in a loop" game I've played. I got stuck, then I died. Simple idea and game, but worked really well for the theme. Also liked the the gameplay for a quick a session.

Only feedback I have is that wish I could have better seen which direction the loops were rotating and when it was speeding up. Felt like I was taking a chance when I didn't know where the exit was.

Great work! I'm going to go back and try one more time. :smile_cat:

Loop City by bassguitarbill 2020-10-11T14:30:28Z

Really enjoyed this game! Had the occasional worm hole surprise me because it would appear in my path or behind a building, which would make me laugh. Took me a bit to get a hang of the controls with the keyboard, but eventually got there. This game had a "happy feel" to it, and I'm always a big fan of that.

Would love to see this game have multiple rounds where your costs get removed from your day, and you can buy upgrades for your vehicle or items to use.

Rock Wrangler by Dylan Fries 2020-10-06T03:49:56Z

Great use of "stuck in a loop" as I managed to get myself stuck in an orbit multiple times. Great sound and music, and great innovation on the asteroids style controls. Really felt satisfied when I managed to get the right angle and switch an asteroid into a planet to destroy it.

Felt good to play! Awesome submission. :smiley_cat:

The Vendor by Shambles 2020-10-11T14:07:23Z

I liked your interpretation of the theme being something that NPCs would "live" through in a typical RPG.

Never did manage to get past the first person, but I was really enjoying the narrative feedback I would get from the customer for giving them a wrong item. Very clever way to deliver feedback through gameplay.

Outside of the at, had some minor issues with the controls (closing items for the item selection menus didn't work) and the dialogue needed to be scrolled like a touch device with my mouse, but overall nothing crazy.

Great work! Would love to see more like this.

Beam from Beyond by Inferture 2020-10-10T06:21:35Z

Reminds me of Combat for the Atari 2600, except with some phat beatz and jumps! Very cute game and liked it quite a bit. Wasn't the biggest fan of the controls on the keyboard, but felt pretty nice with the controller when I noticed that feature.

Great work on your submission!

Soccer Loop by FreshD 2020-10-10T06:26:33Z

This was a cool little game. Would have liked to hear some sound effects, like a kicking noise, the crowd if I score/win, or a whistle at the beginning or end.

Overall was a fun little game! Very cool and great work!

Death Loop by Spice Cabinet 2020-10-12T02:49:28Z

This game very much reminded me of old SNES dungeons with the art and the feel. Something like a specific dungeon in Zelda or something. Definitely hit the nail on the head with the feeling, and really enjoyed that I needed to be "stuck in a loop" to survive this place.

Would have enjoyed getting somewhere or destroying environmental items. Given, that might be a thing to think about for the next post-jam version (if you keep working on it).

Great work!

Tank Fall by PetTurtle 2020-10-10T06:13:04Z

This game had a smile on my face the whole time. Reminded me of Off Road for the NES, except with guns and dropping floors. Really dug this title. Tank controls aren't my favourite, but it feels nice when you're whipping around corners. Also loved that there were so many different levels to pick from.

...I mean, I was horrible at most of them, but I really liked that they were there.

Great work!

LoopGame by GandalfTheGod 2020-10-12T03:36:01Z

This is was really unexpected for "LoopGame"! Cool little dungeon crawler with amazing graphics and lovely music. The full package was delivered with this one. Very well done! I'll be back for more.

Project Loop by Lisichka 2020-10-12T03:30:51Z

This was a neat game, although I couldn't tell if I was progressing or not. I think I was as the dungeon kept getting weirder and the "boss" kept changing.

Thought it was a cool interpretation of the theme. Reminded me of the loop of Majora's Mask, albeit much simpler. Would have liked to see more stuff in the dungeons, maybe some other enemies or possibly an update from the person I'm helping saying "great work"!

Music felt right with the graphics. Really well done.

RESCUE ATTEMPT #[REDACTED] by Junebug 2020-10-10T05:58:22Z

It's amazing how powerful you feel after just a few powerups. Really liked the feel I had as I started getting the powerups, especially the jumps. Made me feel like a really powerful dude! Before the powerups, felt a pinch slow, but I'd hold that to me getting my controller trained hands used to the keyboard controls.

Very well done submission! Great work!

M4LL0's Journey by Plutonium Powered 2020-10-06T04:00:11Z

Literally LOL'ed a few times while playing this game, and not just because I'm bad at it. Really enjoyed the memory game aspect of it, just had a rough time when the smoke started billowing out of my spaceship (given, when it happened it made me laugh pretty hard, as it was very unexpected).

Audio, along with the voices, were spot on. If only I could afford the paid version to adjust the volume level as I had to turn down my speakers when playing.

Great experience and fantastic submission! Well done team.

Out the Door by davidwesst 2020-10-06T03:41:46Z

Full disclosure: My first REAL player that wasn't me found an input bug a couple of hours that locked the game up. Just uploaded a fixed version now, which didn't change any content, just prevented the game from locking up.

MonoLab by BraveWolf 2020-10-06T04:20:04Z

This game was pretty neat. Really enjoyed the music and the art working together with the lighting. Not sure what that thing was, but I wish I could have gotten the camera working to take a picture of it! Managed to find the wrench, which gave me the clue, but couldn't figure out what to do with it! It was behind a locked door from what could gather. Thought I could pry it open or something, but alas I couldn't figure it out.

Neat game overall! I liked that when I escaped the first level, I ended up back at the lab but on the other side. Felt like the whole thing was just some kind of loop experiment people were performing on this monkey while observing. Something like Portal...except with a space monkey.

Graphically, I would have liked to have a visual indicator telling me what was "interactable" and what wasn't. Outside of that, this was a cool experience and the right level of scary for me. I am not kidding when I say that is just about how scary I like my "scary" games.

Great work!

SORO BORO by nethead 2020-10-10T05:55:44Z

Wow this game was awesome. I never did figure out the pattern, but once I got a hang of the controls I was having a ton of fun running around blasting. Great graphics, and that music is just lovely. Continuing to listen to it while I write this comment because it's totally my jam.

This is an amazing submission. Great work!
