the game is super cute it´s amazing that you did it all by yourself wow! there were some things floating around that maybe didn´t make so many sense but apart from that i liked it a lot, great job! if you like you can check out my game and give my team and me some feedback to get better!

Interesting concept! I liked the backstory, and the level design was very cool. Getting killed from a single hit and having to start from the beginning was a little discouraging, especially with such a long level, but overall it was a very fun experience with a lot of potential to expand. Good work!

skvader-418 2023-05-03 22:09

@eyedromeda yeah, i thought the game would be ridiculousley easy, which is a mistake that i keep repeating. But thanks for playing! I really apreciate your feedback!

eyedromeda 2023-05-04 18:50

@skvader-418 Haha, you and me both! It's real easy to forget that other people don't have the large amount of experience and play time you accrue when developing a game, so balancing is always very difficult. I really enjoyed the game regardless, so it wasn't that big of a problem.

Interesting little game, good work !

Very cute game! I like the voice lines in the background - has more story than most Game Jam games. I do think the enemy projectiles were a little too fast, since it was basically impossible to dodge once they got a line of sight on the player. It'd also help to have a few lives, that way I could see the whole level without needing to be perfect. But those a minor things - it was a really wonderful game!

ruben-christoffer 2023-05-06 16:16

I think you've done a good job here. I like the simple art style and it goes well with the audio effects. The controls were intuitive, but the game itself was quite challenging due to the fact that you only have 1 life!

triggthediscovery 2023-05-08 05:47

Nice little game! I think that for a game like this, some variety would have added a lot (moving enemies, objects, ect.) but also it's better to get something solid and finished than ambitious and broken, so I get it.

fireslash 2023-05-09 04:46

The lack of a checkpoint system makes this pretty brutal. I managed to clear it on the second try, but I was a bit frustrated to lose all my progress.

The art is simple and nicely coherent, but I wish the clouds were a bit easier to spot. Maybe being in 4k makes it harder? But a more clear effect would have been good.

Otherwise solid entry. Didn't hit any bugs, nice touches with the voice lines and audioscape.

Nice work!

kazzymodus 2023-05-09 22:56

Both the story and the art are really cute, and the gameplay is straightforward and effective. I originally had a hard time because I didn't know you could "kill" the clouds, but once I figured that out it became a lot easier. My only real gripe is that the clouds around the NPCs are very small (at least on my resolution), making them very difficult to see. Other than that, a solid entry!

I tried starting this in Firefox and Chrome, but it crashes the tab when the progress bar hits about 80%.

gamescodedogs 2023-05-12 05:53

Nice little game. But solid black stroke is not the best choice. It would be better to make it 50% transparent or so.

pyspher9 2023-05-13 04:12

Fun game and nice take on the theme! Aiming near walls seemed a little too difficult though, like the hearts would hit a wall that wasn't there visually. Maybe smaller hitboxes on the walls or hearts could help.

I found myself wishing for fullscreen too, because there were times I clicked out of the game window while playing and ended up losing.

Also I absolutely love that the people outside of Odium are the "model citizens" lol

Thanks for making this!

@hatsu Thank you! I would have done more but it was my first time using a new engine so I had to start from the very beginning.

@dustyredbird Yes, I was going for atmosphere in this game. I really wanted to make the town feel dead, with the crows and stuff. And yeah, as the dev, this game was super duper easy so I naturally assumed the same for everyone, a mistake I keep repeating. Thanks for the feedback!!!

@ruben-christoffer A life bar was planned but decided to leave it because I felt it would be too easy. A mistake that I keep repeating. Thank you for the feedback!!!

@triggthediscovery I was going to add another one of those "black clouds" that would just chase you, but left it since there had been only a few hours left and I feared that something might break, and that I didn't know how to add pathfinding so the homing ones would just run into the wall.

@fireslash Thank you! The audio was just an experiment and I'm glad that it worked well (I hope). Thank you for putting up with the difficulty!

@kazzymodus Oof! Alot of people didn't know that you could kill the black clouds, which I should have explained. And no it's not your resolution, I just made them small and didn't bother making them bigger for some reason, it's one of those things where I KNEW it should be fixed but didn't bother to.

@gamescodedogs Are you talking about the black clouds? They are transparent but since the enemies are made up of 2 clouds they overlap and make it look like it's solid. Or are you talking about the outlines? I would genuinely like to experiment with the art style.

@pyspher9 Yes the hitboxes on the hearts are too big, and I still don't know why I hadn't fixed them, it bothered me during playtests. I had included a fullscreen button but it would break the parralax backgrounds, as in the background hills would be floating. Haha, thanks for actually listening to the speech!

Massive thanks to EVERYONE here who decided to put up with the difficulty and bugs in this game. I highly apriceate your feedback and suggestions. This was a great learning experience. Once again, thanks to all of you!!!

ruben-christoffer 2023-05-13 21:50

@skvader-418 Hehe understandable. If you don't want the game to be too easy you could perhaps add a couple more lives, but introduce more enemies / make the environment more hostile to make up for that. Balancing is always hard though.

jvdwijk 2023-05-15 16:29

That was really good! Really impressive since its your first time on a new engine! As people said, 1 heart is a bit rough, I think I died 6 times :') but the audio is good, the combat was a bit difficult but doable as long as you stayed focussed. Good job!

Good job doing godot first time! I died a bunch of times before I managed to beat it xD The 1 hp is pretty brutal, but might be too easy or too short with more. The additional ambient sounds was nice touch! I really liked the animations on the hearts when you hit things hehe
