I like the concept, but the game was really buggy for me. It was laggy, fullscreen was broken, and wave 3 crashed the game. Probably not your fault but thought I'd let you know.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD50 → Invasion of the Sky Pirate Frogs

I was excited to see you actually came through with this :P
The web build seems to be broken, but the downloadable Windows build worked fine.
Respect for using Love2d
Constructive Feedback: * The window should probably lock in the player cursor, I kept accidentally clicking out into other windows (until I minimized everything so only my empty desktop was behind it, which fixed the issue) * I was unable to make it past wave 4 before reaching a point where most players (At my skill level) would get frustrated and leave. I was never able to upgrade anything, so an increase in gold received for kills might fix that. * An alternative to the above might be an increase bullet velocity, so you don't have to plan your shots ahead as much
Instead of getting frustrated and leaving like I mentioned above I decided to pull out my 1337 gaming skillz and not only challenge your frogs, but your *entire game*. I'm satisfied with the results :P
I can confirm the sky pirates are lead by Thanos, and their victory is inevitable. There wasn't much I could do (besides even more in-depth 1337) once the ship health scaled with the wave count to a certain point.

Keep up the good work! You'll only get better as LD goes by
@dkmk100 I'm sorry to hear that! I shall attempt to fix bugs when I have free time. Thank you for the feedback!
@lone-wolf
I'm glad you enjoyed my game! I must say, you have completely put me to shame, as I can only make it to wave 8
Between you (wave 336) and my brother (wave 361), it seems like it may be a good idea to increase the difficulty ramp in my wave generation function!
Thank you for all your feedback, it is very helpful!
I played for like 30 minutes until my oven timer went off for my dinner. After getting past about level 4, I was able to buy an additional trebuchet. After that, I felt invincible. After a few fully upgraded trebuchets, I got a cannon and proceeded to buy more and more cannons. At that point, the screen was so full of bullets that the frame rate would drop.
The main strategy that was useful was to just continuously shoot, even if no enemies were in sight. Most enemies were killed off screen.
I think the main issue with this game is the pacing and balancing. There's a number of ways to make this game more engaging, but it really comes down to the type of gameplay you want to encourage and how you want the player to feel.
The game did seem to run smoothly and I didn't encounter any bugs. My team also made our game in Love2D!
I like the imaginative backstory and the nice pixel graphics. Maybe it could use a bit more work on the difficulty curve. =) The first wave takes a really long time to start, and with just one enemy, seems a bit slow going. Then I died a couple of times on the 2nd wave.
I really like the visual design, it's charming and gets the important details right. Like when an enemy has more health, it has a larger ship. I also noticed the menu cursor becomes a reticle when aiming out at the ships and then becomes a zone selection tool for placing more artillery on the island, even going as far as to appropriately lock to a grid. It's easy to read at a glance, and I appreciated that a lot.
The balance could use a little tuning. Early on, I felt the bullets were a little difficult to aim over long distances without backup. They were just a little too slow in most situations and I ended up just missing most of the time.
Other than that, the music is great and again, the visual direction is cohesive and endearing! Keep it up!
Love the backstory :D I too encountered a few bugs in the web-gl build but it ran stable for a few waves :) I found the controls to be pretty difficult for some reason but I like the slow projectile mechanics :) a bit like an inverse bullet-hell game :D
Would make a nice mobile game once the bugs are worked out. Progression also needs a little work...was hoping to get a catapult or some new equipment with each wave but never got enough money before losing.
This was a neat game! I found the best way to go about these types of games is to always shoot, as there is no limit to ammo counts. It felt hard to build up any money to buy more stuff, and when I accidentally clicked on the island without being able to buy anything, it stayed on the screen.
Visuals and audio were good as well. Well done!
I like the concept, but the game (at least the HTML5 version) was way, way too hard. I couldn't possibly shoot fast enough to kill the ships on wave 3, and I'd only earned 15 coins by then, so there was no way to buy another cannon. Just impossible to succeed. Maybe it's better balanced in another version? Cute and fun idea, though.
I too had some issues with the HTML version. It seemed to take a long time for the frogs to show up and one time I got through round one without any showing up.
I like the concept and it might be that the HTML version is giving me an inaccurate impression of it.
Anyway, well done!
As mentioned, HTML version is broken but downloadable is works fine. Cool entry. I love the story behind the game, with all LD meme themes mixed :)

Had a lot of fun with this one, great game!
