LD23 — Tiny World

Leaving the Tiny Earth by TSJ666 2012-05-13T14:55:00

It feels like you put a lot of work into the game and this results in great gameplay. I love that you added a final goal to the minecraft formula (I should really play Terraria). Collision detection in Game Maker is a pain in the ass, my game is suffering from this too.

WTF World by Misfit 2012-05-03T19:29:00

This game makes me happy. Although, I don't really like the screen moving mechanic, the animations and music make me keep playing. Nice one!

Underfoot by zorf 2012-05-03T19:20:00

Funny! The smashing sounds are great, but I'm a fan of WASD in such occasions. And the gameplay was a little too slow for me.

6 Degrees of Sabotage by dukope 2012-04-24T19:25:00

Wow, what a great game.
The shooting could have been more purpseful maybe - I didn't enjoy killing innocents because I'm too bad at aiming.
Nevertheless, I love the fact that it plays different every time you play it, actually reminds me of cluedo and that's a good sign. Graphics and Audio(!) are great mood-setters.
Very nicely done :-)

Around the World in 80 Seconds (or less) by gormio 2012-05-02T18:19:00

I like the graphics (how did you make the car?) and sound and the physics are really great, but there's ot much game in here. I hope you keep working on it, this could become a really nice game.

Necro Gaia by lazybraingames 2012-05-12T18:38:00

It took me a while to figure out what exactly I was supposed to do, but then it became very much fun. A can't find a flaw in this one. You really should rate some games in order to get more reviews.

The Invasion of Timmy by The_Observer 2012-04-25T16:26:00

Nice graphics, setting and interesting gameplay. I don't like that it (apparently?) randomly calculates the damage I'm going to take. And some sound would have been nice. Overall: fun. :)

It's A small world by Sxw1212 2012-04-25T15:56:00

File not found.

Tiny Invasion by Cappibara 2012-05-03T17:54:00

I think one nice little 'crunching' noise for destroying the buildings would have made the game oh so more satisfying. :)
Keep at it!

Survival in a Tiny Box by pokefan 2012-05-12T18:24:00

Yes, as said the controls are really bad. I think you could best fix this by simply adjusting x and y by a certain amount in the events for the arrow keys. For example you could add 10 to x in the "right arrow key" event of your player object. This way the key events don't interfere. Hooray for Game Maker!

Tiny World Racer by Kinokochan 2012-05-03T18:57:00

Feels like the prototype for a really great game! Stunningly beautiful, but doesn't really develop a feeling of a racing game.

Dimensional by someone 2012-05-03T19:12:00

I didn't quite get it, but I think the underlying idea could make a great game. It's a shame it's not fleshed out more.

Full Circuit by JMRante 2012-04-29T19:31:00

One of the best LD-Games I have played so far. Nice level design, graphics and audio. I really enjoy it, but PLEASE put in an undo-button, that can be optionally turned off. It's really is unforgiving and frustrating to do the same stuff all over again just because you slipped with your finger. I hope to reach level two this night...

Save Tiny World by Biv Game Studios 2012-05-03T17:55:00

I don't have a smartphone. :(

Civilized Pixel by Terrified Virus 2012-04-25T15:42:00

I love the idea and the sounds of this game, but it lacks a lot of polishment - 48h are short. :)
The music on the menu is awesome, but during the gameplay its too low compared to the sound effects and the starting phase is propably a bit too slow. Oh, and thanks for the development log - it was an interesting read.^^

Heracles N Chickens by marshalo 2012-04-25T15:53:00

Same as above.

Alien Punch! by dcolgan 2012-05-02T18:29:00

Haha, that was funny! I simply stood on earth and held down the spacebar, but it was entertaining enough just to watch.^^

Boulder Drop by jclaine 2012-04-25T16:31:00

Simple and bloody clicking action. Nice.

First Import by iximeow 2012-04-29T19:05:00

This could be a really great game, but it's very unaccessible in my opinion. I have no real overview and the planes don't do what I'm intending. I tried firing a missile with the space shuttle using the space key and it didnn't work. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Maybe a tutorial and more feedback via graphics and sound would help. I like the overall look and the sounds.

1 Seed by Gemberkoekje 2012-05-02T19:06:00

Wow, I love this game. It has a really great concept and has a fantastic soundtrack.

There are two small things you should change IMO: 1. Make it visible what status the planets have while I'm flying so that I don't have to fly to Class A planets again because I got lost. 2. I got stuck sometimes while trying to lift off and burned my entire fuel - bug or feature?

Bottled Worlds by Patacorow 2012-04-29T18:48:00

That's a really nice game. I find its aesthetics really great, especially the animations. Unfortunately, I'm unable to beat level two mainly because it's not possible to control the height of the jumps.

Flyght by yosh 2012-05-03T19:04:00

Nice and short entry. I can't hear any music though and only every second bullet seems to make a sound. Very nice graphics and kitteh cloud.^^

A Robot's Journey by CNIAngel 2012-04-24T19:27:00

I' having the some troubles the others are having too.

Celluloid Combat! by Vertebro 2012-04-29T21:40:00

Nice pun on asteroids. I like the graphics and the movement. My suggestions are that you add more sound to the game (how about a soundtrack?) and shrink the ship in size.

Kid's Wars by iFred_QC 2012-05-03T17:45:00

Nice, a GMStudio entry! Fun little game that fascinated me for about 20 minutes. I seem to not be able to win, but neither boring nor frustrating.

Cells by kelp 2012-04-25T16:42:00

The cells look really nice and the gameplay is simple but addictive. Could have profited from shortcuts and audio. Nevertheless, gg.

Invasion Of Tiny World by gregdevice 2012-05-02T18:40:00

Awesome. Graphics, Sound, Mood, Gameplay.. everythings fine. I find nothing to seriously critique. How the hell did you create such beautiful sound effects?

Asteroid Defender by Dr. Mo 2012-05-13T15:04:00

A nice little game. I especially liked the sound effects, but I can't understand why you only used the music in the menu. And a little more challenge could have improved the game a lot. Nevertheless, It worked really well. Nice.

LD24 — Evolution

Natural Selection: Travel Agency by lightspeedlucas 2012-08-27T17:14:00

Pretty cool, the captions are funny. ^^
Controls could have been more intuitive.

Star's Requiem by davisan 2012-09-12T15:01:00

I have not much to add. This looks like a very raw diamond to me. It's a very appealing game both aesthetically and story-wise and the gameplay looks very promising and ambitious.

But, alas, both gameplay modes aren't really fun enough. The platforming isn't smooth, the shmup-sections are too slow and the texts need to scroll much faster (Besides the spelling and grammatical errors; I played the original version).

Nevertheless, you nailed the 'mood' category.

DeviLock by Misfit 2012-09-11T16:05:00

Great and very challenging game. Awesome audio (though a bit loud) and outstanding(!) graphics.

Can become very frustrating, but that's part of the fun. :)

VENA (Viral Evolution: Nano Attack) by Dakota 2012-08-27T13:35:00

I didn't understand the power-ups, but it was entertaining to play nevertheless. The graphics are great.

Survival of Polyminos by Kalabasa 2012-08-27T11:36:00

A very solid and fun concept. I love the fact that the pieces can take so very different shapes - that's quite challenging.
Music and sound would have made this game even more fun and an explanation what the right screen represents would have been nice, too.

Besugo by fanatiko 2012-09-11T15:04:00

Doesn't run for me (Windows 7 64-Bit).

Tonality by hgcummings 2012-09-02T18:30:00

This is fantastic - great concept.

I would like to see this get polished a little more. And maybe you could draw an outline around the bacteria so that they're more easy to distinguish?

Bored Bob by OmarShehata 2012-08-31T14:46:00

Awesome! The concept of painting the paths of my cannonfodder was confusing first, but grew on me - especially considering the hordes of enemies. The audio is outstanding, although it needs a bit time getting used to it. I first expected more normal sound effects. Great game!

EvoGoop by pirate-rob 2012-09-11T15:19:00

Wow, you actually made a working platformer in GM lite. It was already hard enough for me to do it in the pro version!

Now, about the game:

What I liked:
-The evolution options seem to be really extensive and the character is really customizable, I was positively surprised when I evolved the first time.

-The graphics look really nice, I like the character's sprite (and how it changes according to the evolution choices)

What I didn't like:
-The background music is looping too fast. No sound effects.
-Attacking didn't do anything.
-I wasn't sure how to eat, graphical feedback would have helped.
-The choice of keys is poor. I play on a german QWERTZ Keyboard, so the z and y key are swapped, which makes playing this game very uncomfortable for my left hand.

Anyway, impressive work for 48h.

.ISO - Part One by Kortuga 2012-08-27T17:37:00

This game would be really, really great if the movement system wasn't broken.

Darwin's Journey by TinyHat 2012-08-27T11:20:00

Atmosphere, Graphics and Music are brilliant. I also like the idea of playing darwin who brings the evolution.
I didn't understand the purpose of the monkey: He either dropped in the first hole or got stuck a bit later. It's a shame this game lacks real gameplay, because I would love to spend more time in this world.

Infected Cell by DDDBOMBER 2012-08-27T13:18:00

Had to download the game, chrome was only showing a white screen.

Now, that was really challenging and really fun to play! I like the frantic and exciting gameplay and the smooth controls. The bosses and the power system are really cool features that I did not expect.

Two minor(!) complaints: It is difficult to distinguish yourself from your own bullets, especially with the speed upgrade and the music repeats a bit too fast (the loop itself kicks ass).

SURVIVE by Ragzouken 2012-08-26T23:37:00

I got an error:
http://s8.postimage.org/bmhmqgro5/survive_error_Screen.png
Am I doing something wrong? I don't know anything about LUA.
I extracted the files into a folder on my desktop and started the .exe

SURVIVE by Ragzouken 2012-08-26T23:56:00

Thanks for the fix! This game is frantic, I like it!

EVILUTION by GothFraex 2012-08-27T11:47:00

Hm.. the exit doesn't open for me either..
I love the graphics and how the game feels, but music and sound would have been really nice. And like ollie, I can't see the relation to the theme.

Unlikely Companion by alyphen 2012-08-27T15:57:00

That'S a really good game.
Besides the need to spam the left mouse button.^^

133 by fr_automatik 2012-09-17T20:28:00

I wished I had a little more control over the combat. If the cats were a little less frantic and were a little better graphically distinguished from the background, this game would have been a bit more fun to me.
Besides that: a really solid and cute game. The graphics are nice.

Unstable Planet by HunLyxxod 2012-08-27T12:01:00

Unfortunately I can only play without sound. Beside that, I love the idea of evolving the level instead of the protagonist. It's getting quite challenging! o.o
Maybe the jumping controls could have been better, they feel a bit "stiff" to me.

Swarm by Will Xyen 2012-08-27T15:13:00

space doesn't work for me. I can select everything and set "enable" to yes, but nothing happens when I press space. Am I doing something wrong?

Swarm by Will Xyen 2012-08-27T15:16:00

Nevermind. I didn't refresh the page so I couldn't see everchangers comment. I figured it out now.

Swarm by Will Xyen 2012-08-27T15:36:00

As already mentioned, this game could potentially be great fun. I like the idea of letting the player choose how the difficulty is increased.

I had a few problems, though:
-The GUI is unintuitive. I would not have been able to start the game without everchanger's comment.

-The movement of the player feels a bit too "spongy" (in lack of a better word). Maybe the acceleration rate is too low.

-no audio. Some sound effects would have done a great service to this game.

-The laser seems underpowered because you stop when you use it.

The Origin by donmilham 2012-09-17T20:47:00

I love Darwin's notebook, it's so cool! The music loop is nice, though repetitive.

Could have been a bit more challenging, :)

Young Earth Road Trip by saguaro 2012-09-02T17:56:00

I couldn't figure out how to catch the kitten and succeeded only by accident. Also, I'm missing music.
Besides that: Awesome! *rofl*

Neurochronic Alien Fighter: Evolution! by Ken Reismann 2012-09-11T15:23:00

I'm running Windows and don't want to install python, so unfortunately I can't play this game. I would be grateful if somebody created an executable.

The Devil's Lie by Haette 2012-09-17T21:16:00

Brilliant game! I first thought I was supposed to shoot the miners, but the way it's actually played is much more interesting. Very smart and funny take on the theme.

The Devil's Lie by Haette 2012-09-17T21:17:00

Btw: That was the 50th game I rated! Woohoo!

uni.bb by IndigoWolf 2012-08-27T18:54:00

Interesting concept, but not really playable yet.

Dr. Helix by SecondDimension 2012-08-27T18:47:00

Download link is broken. 404

Dr. Helix by SecondDimension 2012-08-31T00:22:00

I finally played your game! Thanks for the link-fix.

Probably the best LD#24-entry I have played so far. I love the concept behind it, which really provokes a playful attitude towards the game. It also felt surprisingly polished actually - the fact that you could skip the story alone really shows that you put yourself in the mind of the player during creation.

Maybe the teleporting is a bit overpowered, a more skilled player could probably teleport himself through entire levels - but he would miss all the fun then.

The only two real flaws I can find in this game are the missing music and that I occasionally got stuck in a tree and had to teleport. Besides that: Really well done and thanks for the fun I had.

Dr. Helix by SecondDimension 2012-08-31T01:35:00

Oh, I forgot one thing: The aiming is off. I don't know if that's intended or buggy.

Evolve Munch! by nickusername1 2012-09-12T15:09:00

Unfortunately, I can't really experience any gameplay besides eating seagrass(?) and winning. The graphics look promising enough.

Threevolution by dredlockz 2012-08-31T14:15:00

Hahaha, awesome! Really fun and great cliff-hanger!

Vesuvius by Joker 2012-08-28T11:28:00

Same as SpectreNectar: Can't play the game, I only get a black screen.

Survivalism by Walt 2012-09-02T17:37:00

The core gameplay is quite fun. A little more polish like audio and this is a really great game. The graphics could be great mood setters, if they were combined with music and sound effects.

Evolution by Adok 2012-09-17T20:39:00

I feel like the player has not enough influence on whether he gets hit or not - this probably has to do with too big collision boxes, as the others already said. Couldn't make it to the dinosaur stage unfortunately and I muted my pc, because the sound effects were getting a bit annoying.
I love the mspaint-like graphics and the idea of having two game modes.

Lab Experiment Demo by Threef 2012-09-17T21:04:00

Very nice and challenging puzzler, the halving mechanic is really great.
Platforming could be a lot more fluent and precise, though.

Entourage by jprogman 2012-09-12T11:03:00

A nice concept, but the program isn't really able to show that. Better graphics really would have helped a lot, I can barely distinguish good and bad.
And maybe the concept would work out better if you were able to program all the good guys at once.

Eat or Die by yettatore 2012-08-31T14:52:00

Frantic, fun and fast! I love it.^^

B07s by Moebius 2012-09-11T15:39:00

Nice concept, I had a few panic-moments when robots started chasing me. I like the graphics engine and the randomly generated levels, this must have been a lot of work.

The frequence of the enemy robots seems a little too random. One time I got killed right at the start, another time I couldn't find a single robot for like a minute. I also didn't know at first that I don't need to press a key to consume a robot.

Also: Lack of music and only one(?) sound effect.

The Wrong Kind of Evolution by Matt Hartley 2012-09-12T11:50:00

I actually managed to defeat five waves. But only by dying a lot and frantically tapping the space bar. The player should really just be able to hold down the space bar in order to shoot as fast as possible.

Also, a short recovery time after being hit during which the player is invincible would be great. I had situations in which a single enemy nearly killed me.
I actually find the graphics to be relatively good. The background isn't impressive, but the sprites and walking animations work out well.
No audio?

Awareness by jefrsilva 2012-09-16T16:10:00

Interesting idea, but I think it would work better if the goal was clear to the player. Finding the solution to a problem is much more fun than neither knowing the problem nor the solution.

Natural Selection: breeding by God by ripatti 2012-08-27T16:45:00

This could be great as an educational game if there were descriptions to the items. It fits the theme really well. Unfortunately, I can't motivate myself to play through level 4, there's just too much trial&error then.

The Amazing Adventure of Magenta-Man by Doctor Broccoli 2012-08-28T11:56:00

Really nice combat feel. I love how strong the upgrades are, they make it a little too easy later on though.

Mytosys by NexusSteve 2012-09-02T18:02:00

Very short, but well done!
I think more feedback is needed when you press space in time or collect a green spore. Graphics and sound are outstanding.

EVOLON by Moris_N 2012-08-27T18:46:00

Two small complaints: Lack of audio and no restart feature (as far as I can tell).
Besides that, spot-on marioesque platforming. Exactly the way it's supposed to be.

Experiment X by XmmmX 2012-08-27T13:00:00

Those are some crazy scientists - dropping acid all over the floor while carrying rocket launchers! O.O
I have nothing to complain about, except maybe the slow health regeneration. :)
Fun fact: we had similar story ideas, but your implementation is much better.

Empire of the Petri Dish by quadtree 2012-09-12T11:18:00

Very nice game! It's such a great experience to see your overpowered squad dominate the petri dish! I really like the idea of indicating strong engines by letting the objects spin faster. Sound and music are also really great.

Controls are really fluid and feel great!

What I don't like is that you can generate bacteria with either no engines or no attack. I think this type of bacteria should only appear when you mutate an existing one, because they serve no purpose other than being material for further genetic experiments.

Thanks for the last ten minutes!

Evoroid by ahnimal 2012-09-11T15:48:00

Overly attached robots O.o

Like 'someone', I once spawned in a small room without any way to escape and no other robots in sight. Other times the other robots just got stuck to me.
I also kind of didn't understand what I was supposed to do or how to attack. What are the winning/losing conditionns of this game?

What I did like was the instantly fun movement system and the spriting.

This could be the start of a great game, but it's not really there yet.

Warspace by TaslemGuy 2012-09-01T17:00:00

This is basically a real-time-strategy framework. It could potentially be a great game, but it's lacking all comfort features of RTS games yet. For example, I want to see the selecting box when I'm selecting several units.
Also the pathfinding was quite tricky to get used to.

I do like what you can already see of the mechanics, for example that you can beat four attacking units with one attacking unit and a healing one.

Sound effects were quite ok, but lacking music. The graphics were a bit monotonous (too much grey), but I like the effect when a unit gets hit. The text aside of the main gameplay window was interestingly written, but I didn't really understand it, honestly - I felt the need to focus on the game.

Want to see more of this.

EvoBlob by Tritax 2012-09-12T11:34:00

Although the comments sound really tempting, I don't want to install XNA Redistributable now.

EvoBlob by Tritax 2012-09-12T15:20:00

Pretty cool game, I especially like the idea that you can choose which animals to eat in order to progress. The graphics were also nice and you succeeded in creating a functioning platforming system.
I did get stuck once or twice, though. Therefore, a fast respawn system would be a nice addition.

cuboidAI by JH 2012-08-27T17:54:00

Interesting. It was definitely fun to play with it, even though it's not a game and very abstract.

The World Tree by shinD 2012-08-27T15:07:00

Great Atmosphere! The end sequence was beautiful! *.*

Prometheus by sorceress 2012-09-12T14:41:00

Definitely the best sound I have heard so far. Gameplay and graphics are also really well done.

The only suggestion I have is to make the combat a little more fluent. For example by making the character turn immediately and increasing his speed.

Awesome game, thank you!

Angry Fish by munchor 2012-08-27T13:26:00

Download worked for me.

Now those are some angry fish! Fun little game, but staying small seems much easier than trying to evolve. Some audio would have been nice too.

Robot, paper, scissors: Evolution by badlydrawnrod 2012-08-27T19:10:00

I have played to round 6 now. Is this really all there is? You stand at the entrance, clicking. And even when I give them more space, they won't try to escape, but to cuddle me! Only if I don't do anything, some of them will try to reach the exit. Well, that's not very fun - I'm sorry.

Evo Fight by Skoggy 2012-08-27T15:44:00

Really fun if you can resist using the fireball. :D
Sound and graphics are awesome. *thumbs up*

Robot Build Fight! by Finn Stokes 2012-08-31T14:00:00

Took a long time for me to understand it, it's a really different kind of concept. Once it's understood it's a really cool game though. As mentioned: You should add a little feedback. And maybe a bit sound and graphics :)

Game Console Story by Eldaryze 2012-09-01T17:09:00

Really nice concept and subject! It's missing some content of course like Megadrive + CD = Sega CD. The speech samples are a great idea!

Organismo Vivente by baton4ik 2012-09-12T11:28:00

The controls are really unorthodox, I think controlling your character more like a car would feel better and I wouldn't mind if it was a little faster from the start. My first attempt was quite boring, because I couldn't see any enemy's and swimming was so slow.
No audio?

What I really like is the magnitude of customization going on here.

A New Kind of Man by Khayet 2012-08-28T01:13:00

@SecondDimensio: You activate the second ability by pressing either 1 for invisibility or 2 for killing a nearby enemy.

A New Kind of Man by Khayet 2012-08-31T00:31:00

Thanks for all the feedback so far - it has confirmed my view of the game.

The lesson I learned is that it is really important to give the player enough room to explore the game mechanics you just taught them. And also that you should have a playable version before you program every feature you want in the final game.
(And that collision programming in Game Maker sucks!)

If you find anything else I should keep in mind next time - please tell me!

A New Kind of Man by Khayet 2012-09-12T17:38:00

free_napalm: I did indeed run out of time.
