Hey, I played it for a little, and it took me a while to figure out I had to click the other fish to attack them and I didn't eat them automatically (like in other similar games).

It would also be nice to have a little intro screen or something. Also, at the end, I reached max level and got a message, but couldn't read it because I was near the surface and the text was white on a really-light-blue background. :(

It would be nice to see more variation in edible fish - perhaps procedurally-generated ones! :D

Wouldn't run for me! Crashed immediately after starting. I'm running Windows 7 64bit on an i5 2500k and ATI HD5770.

log.txt had

Init SDL
Get Video Info
Screen size 1920x1080
Selected scale 1x
Creating temporal QVGA backbuffer

in it

se podría hacer funcionar en VC++?

fanatiko 2012-09-02 19:16

@Andrei Barsan thanks for the comments. I discovered during this jam that if I want to keep with the C++/SDL combo, I need to have some base code to manage the UI and the game states, because during the compo I never have the strength to work on this necessary but boring stuff. About the procedural fishes, in fact, they evolve but making the sprites is quite time consuming (that's something I plan to improve also) and didn't have the energy to make more than two.

@iximeow @juaxix it seems some people have problems with TinyOAL. juaxix the source is my full code repository, you should be able to build it from there.

juaxix 2012-09-03 17:11

I was a bit disappointed when I couldn't find bigger fish or changed shapes.

raver 2012-09-03 22:12

Shame that there is no fish upgrade, but gratz for finished game.

jeremy1080 2012-09-04 04:03

If it had bigger fish it would be sweet!

dr_soda 2012-09-04 04:04

Black screen + failure to start the game when I tried it on Vista 64

jonathang 2012-09-04 19:05

Sorry, didn't work on Windows 7 64bit:

Init SDL
Get Video Info
Screen size 1600x900
Selected scale 3x
Creating temporal QVGA backbuffer
Starting music engine
Loading sound/music.ogg

Nothing in stdout or stderr

derosa 2012-09-04 21:33

I hoped my fish to get bigger or something :)

walt 2012-09-05 18:43

bit simplistic. graphics are decent though

goffmog 2012-09-09 12:44

Surprisingly fun :) I'd like to see you expand it so that the deeper you go, the bigger the other fish get, and so that you can go deeper. Also a score system would really improve replayability.

kibertoad 2012-09-09 12:57

Wish there was more content to this game. Also, would be nice if pace ramped up at the later stages.

huchickut 2012-09-09 13:47

Looks pretty good, but you need more content. Some form of progression apart from just higher damage would be good. Also different types of fish.

goerp 2012-09-10 20:06

It had a very good and consistent retro feel: the graphics, the music, the gameplay. I also didn't realise immediately how to kill other fish.

misfit 2012-09-11 14:35

Nice graphics (and audio), but needs more stuff.

khayet 2012-09-11 15:04

Doesn't run for me (Windows 7 64-Bit).

demonpants 2012-09-11 19:48

Hey, can you make a Mac version perhaps?

josh-dreamland 2012-09-12 13:17

I hate it when there's no winning.
It'd help if you gave controls next time.

munchor 2012-09-16 20:39

Nice entry, but could use lots of improvements such as better controls and perhaps increasing difficulty.

seconddimension 2012-09-17 19:13

Always like games set in the ocean, I think it needs a bit more content but the sprites and audio are really good. You get extra points for me being a seabream and not just a generic fish!
