It's a very unique approach and I think it comes together really well. Very interesting and very innovative ... but definitely not a control mechanic i want in a game. :P Thank you for submitting this game!
Brilliant game. Brutal difficulty (not a bad thing). I'll agree with other comments regarding the walk sound - it can get a little grating. Thanks for making this. :D
What felt awkward, for me, was that turning while flying did not change your inertia. You continue in your old heading until you stop and restart moving.
I appreciate all the feedback! It's great to see people enjoying my entry.
vubuntu: unfortunately, it's using XNA4 so it needs .NET4
whilefun: i should've included arrow keys. :(
I'm considering continuing the development of this into a more feature-rich game. I guess I'll keep people posted of this. :D I'll try to post something on the main page when I have a plan (that and I can always be reached through twitter @JDBunnell).
Thanks again for checking out my entry!
@demonpants: not the 48h compo version, unfortunately. I've ported this to Flash and begun adding some new features and tweaking the gameplay. But, obviously, it isn't reflective of the game created for the compo.
Pretty fun game. I liked the twist on this game type. Sometimes, I felt like i'd get dog-piled for no reason at all and it would be completely at random (once, before the first jump). I never got a sense for what caused that or why or how to avoid it. Aside from that, this was a pretty enjoyable game!
I really like this game. I didn't get to play it a bunch (there's < 3 minutes left on the judging clock as i type this), but I'm going to play it some more after I finish typing this. The mechanics and the audio play really well together, imo, to make a fun little casual crawler.
Also unable to download game
I got trapped by the scripted events. I didn't explore the front door first, so by the time I got to the door, there was already a zombie at it - as a result, I couldn't enter the garage to continue the sequencing. :( Also, as mentioned by others, the collision detection screwed me more than once - stuck on the stairs being the most notible.
That said, there's a surprising amount of assets in this. Lots of geometry and level design. I this its impressive what you were able to piece together in 48 hours!
Had a really tough time getting my guy into 1 tile-wide hallways. Would've liked to see a few different spells/zombies for variety.
Really tough to control the character (cave3 especially). I also felt like there wasn't a clear passage from room to room (I ran into the spikes in cave2 out of desperation, but ended up in cave3 instead of dead).
I enjoyed this game quite a bit. The pace is nice, it's good play something that isn't breakneck fast from time-to-time. :) Had some silliness with bullet collision (I could kill many zombies per bullet as long as I clumped them up before I shot).
Had fun playing with the mechanics at play in this game. I really enjoyed the "rocket" jump. Loved the ending. Thanks for making this.
A fun little beat-em up. I liked the audio/music and had enough fun to carry me through several plays back-to-back. But, I had a really hard time timing my punches. It always felt like luck, to a point, if I was going to hit or be hit.
I have no way to play this. :(
I think the timing of the anxiety bar was tuned just a little bit too tight. I felt like I was playing a game about perfect platformering (i.e. Meat Boy) but with controls that sometimes punished me for no reason. A fun game, but I think it could benefit from tighter controls and a slightly more forgiving timer.
I agree with everyone else ... needs standalone exe.
I only rated the parts I could experience ... I got sick of starting over from scratch and the early play was a little too boring for me to keep at.
It's an interest take on the theme, though. I wish it could've remembered how far you'd gotten on subsequent attempts.
Unable to play ... (no python/pygame).
Fun little game - wished it was a little longer. I really enjoy puzzle-y games like this.
Was enjoying myself, but after I lost I didn't want to restart and grind through it again to try and finish.
no python / not signing up for some random service to download the source. as others have suggested, you should use a more friendly download option (like Dropbox).
The link isn't working for me. :(
No download. :(
I had fun playing through this. Also, best ending ever. :)
Yay, woo.
I had a lot of fun with this.. i was a little sad that it ended so quickly. Seemed like there could be some balancing of damage (it took like 20 spears to kill an enemy - but they could kill me in 3 shots).
Thought the graphics were great!
Tried quite a bit, but I couldn't get this running on my linux machine. :( A shame too, cause I really wanted to try this one.
unable to rate ... i don't have access to a linux machine.
I love this!
Really a ton of fun .. and great music. I'd love to hear about the toolset you used to create this!
Not sure this qualifies as an entry in LD at all. None of this was produced during the compo/jam. :(
Nice and challenging. I ran into the same problem as aeveis (holding down the up key caused multiple jumps). I think i'm just too used to games with a variable jump height, though. Once I started tapping the up key, instead, i was able to progress much more quickly.
I enjoyed this quite a bit. I was able to get almost all the way through with the zepplin. :) I felt like there was a significant jump in difficulty between the enemies and the boss fight (which ended up with a LOT of bullets flying around). But, overall, I thought this was a really nice entry.
Great work!
There's no download link for the executable or source code!
Still no game available at the link provided. :(
Unable to get it running.
Unable to play, but looks nice.
The refresh time of the dropbox version is a bit slow, but the downloaded version plays really smooth. Fun - reminds me of RoboRally.
Web link doesn't seem to work. Stealing music from others really goes against the spirit (and rules) of Ludum Dare as well.
I dunno what it is about these kinds of games, but I always enjoy seeing what mechanics someone has decided to include in a given game. Having a fun time with this one. :)
Any chance you could post footage of gameplay for people that cannot run this game? I wouldn't mind seeing it in action - I feel like I could at least offer suggstions/votes then.
Would be great to be able to skip that intro after you've watched it once .. the second/third time through really starts to drag on.
Fun little game. I feel like the hitbox of the runner is a bit too wide. there were a few times where I was clearly ahead of an eyeball, but it counted as a hit. :\
Very fun little game. I really liked the flip at the halfway mark!
Seems like it could be fun, but I gotta agree with ninjascript. I wasn't quite sure what was going on and died. Then I had to sit through the intro again (and again). A way to skip through it after you've read it once would be great.
