LD23 — Tiny World

My Kid Dropped The Planet by MadGnomeGamer 2012-04-23T05:40:00

Giant walls of text at the beginning were a bit much, but launching mechanic is fun. I missed the "be evil" starting the 2nd stage and was confused, couldn't figure out what to do for a while.

Microbial by LukeRissacher 2012-04-23T06:10:00

Got to title screen, hit space to start, empty level 1 comes up, and nothing happens. wasd/backspace do nothing, esc goes back to the title screen.

Tiny World Defense Force by Beanalby 2012-04-23T07:14:00

Sandcrawler: You're right, looks like it needs a 22Mb data folder too. I'll look into getting that uploaded somewhere public tomorrow, but in the meantime the web version should work.

Tiny World Defense Force by Beanalby 2012-04-25T01:30:00

Addressing some of the comments:

Yep, the music is annoying. :) This is what happens when I leave myself 30 minutes to install, learn to use, and produce music with Musagi. Sorry about that!

There's nothing that explicitly says to hold the fire button to charge the laser for Mechania, which is a failing of the game. There were plans for a "sucking" particle effect showing the laser charging up, but it was one of the things that got cut for time.

The fact that two different people are convinced that each of the different planets is better is a sign that I've set it up right. :)

Angstrom by Daniel 2012-04-23T05:54:00

Quite an impressive amount of content for the short amount of time.

Lost Oxide by SidetrackGames 2012-04-23T06:17:00

Definitely one of the best I've games I've played in LD23, love the walljumps.

Under the Glass by dxdydz 2012-04-23T05:22:00

Music and colors went very well together for the game, very soothing! Only frustration was getting zapped by cell-thingies by the edge while collecting things there.

dLeIaFtEh by Cell 2012-04-23T05:44:00

Liked the easy controls & "text as you go" rather than text that holds you up.

Shrunkit by MagnesiumNinja 2012-04-23T06:05:00

Had a few bugs with boxes hot growing after shrinking, but good implementation of the concept.

Burning Platform by recursive frog 2012-04-23T06:27:00

Didn't expect to see an android app here. :) Drawing walls seemed extremely short lived to the point that they couldn't be useful, interesting use of tilting to maintain multiple objects though.

Interstellar Planet-Ship Adventures: The Search for... $@#% Aliens!!!!!! by mattchu 2012-04-23T05:35:00

Even reading the guide, I couldn't tell what was going on. Placed some buildings with number keys, nobody moved, nothing happened.

Space Jumper by lucars83 2012-04-23T06:22:00

Definitely would've preferred to not have to go through install/uninstall, liked the rotating planets to jump through.

LD24 — Evolution

AInts vs Robots by YSelf Tool 2012-09-02T03:56:00

Sounds like it could be interesting, it's way to complex for what little user interface is provided. Even with referring back to the mass of text, I couldn't figure out what was going on or how I was supposed to go about accomplishing anything.

Acts of August: Introspective by NeiloGD 2012-09-16T18:37:00

The comic & film definitely hooked me, but I found the game a bit directionless & frustrating. I stumbled upon a few disjoined thoughts, but couldn't seem to progress more beyond that. I applaud the scope of the effort, and look forward to what you try in the future.

Bittp 2 8-BIT Retro Game by samusetroid 2012-09-16T18:18:00

Yea, stuff happens sometimes. It sucks. I'm surprised at the amount of levels for a LD48, look forward to what you do with the next LD and can make a full project. :)

Beyond Darkness by Raven IX 2012-09-02T04:03:00

For some reason, pressing up made me go up, and pressing down made me go...up? So I couldn't get past the first wall.

Evolution Assault by NovaX81 2012-09-02T04:12:00

Ludum Dare is as much about learning as anything else :) I know what it's like to overplan & under-execute, definitely play around with this stuff in the meantime and I'll look forward to what you come up with next time!

The Evolution of Time by jomacel 2012-09-02T03:40:00

Had to consult the walkthrough multiple times. Controls can be...unintuitive. "Oh, of course I can float along the ceiling if I mash the jump button." :)

Evolution of Business by Matt 2012-08-30T05:07:00

Good job on reinforcing the controls and what does what, very refreshing from other obtuse games.

darwin_award by heuermh 2012-08-30T04:45:00

Should probably mention somewhere that it requires Java.

_Evolve by Tyler 2012-08-30T04:38:00

The map mechanics look interesting, but there's just so little feedback on the results of actions or what animals do or don't like.

Vicariously by pdyxs 2012-08-30T05:01:00

UI was packed together really tight, had trouble telling what to do & why.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Bah Humbug by maxking1234 2012-12-31T19:34:00

Could use some speedier controls, the slow movement and slow attacking made things feel more tedious than necessary. Love the theme idea though!

Infect the World by Cyboot 2012-12-31T21:06:00

Interesting mechanic, could use some scaling in white cell difficulty, like have weak ones close at the start. At first I'd tried running to expand to other cells immediately and always got creamed, didn't realized I had to basically sit around and pump up rate & strength for a while first.

My Little World Domination Simulator by Ace 2012-12-31T21:12:00

Got the white blocks here, both versions, Win7 x64.

Muffin the Destroyer by Beanalby 2012-12-17T16:22:00

It uses the "Show Controls" package I made specifically for "quick & dirty" Ludum Dare stuff like this: http://home.beanalby.net/projects/ShowControls/

Bad Guys in the Power by pinkmonkeyhead 2012-12-31T20:45:00

Solid mechanics for difficult platformer, a bit to much player trolling for my tastes though (guess which path! nope, you chose wrong, dead!)

Abrupt Salvation by NostraDamon 2012-12-29T23:34:00

I didn't see a Source link, where is it available?

Hero Beat ME! by theGiallo 2012-12-29T23:54:00

Trying to run gives a single MessageBox:

"The program can't start because MSVCP110.dll is missing from your computer."

Win7 SP1 x64

Hero Beat ME! by theGiallo 2012-12-31T18:27:00

After installing the redist, running opens a white window that hangs with hourglass, eats 100% cpu. Last lines of console show
base font list = 1
font texID = 1 isTexture: yes type GL_RGBA

Sword Beats Vampire by Certainty 2012-12-18T02:35:00

Music seemed oddly happy-go-lucky for attacking hapless villagers. :)

AL by sgreenlay 2012-12-31T20:25:00

Good concept, running out of time is very common, especially with new participants. I'm looking forward to your entries in the future!

Alien Invasion by markusfisch 2012-12-29T23:10:00

Loved the physics of flinging around the planet, and the displayed trajectory was a really nice touch.

Grim's Christmas List by stuckie 2012-12-29T23:38:00

Without reading the help first, it felt very backwards - "touching people as the grim reaper should kill THEM, not me!" "Getting +'s as the reaper should be bad, I'll avoid those!" "Why does touching a person make a dolphin leap out?" :) Solid mechanics.

You are the Hero by dragonfi 2012-12-30T00:00:00

Loved the concept, love how at the end the "hero" is left with nothing but her own thoughts, echoing louder and more forcefully, as a reminder of what she's done. Very nice!

Neutral Balance by koller-digital 2012-12-31T18:36:00

I liked the yin/yang take on You Are the Villain, rather than the "pure evil" aspect of most entries.

Sir Cat by JoeCool17 2012-12-29T23:24:00

another vote for pyinstaller FWIW, it's worked wonders for me with wxPython when py2exe blew up.

Path to Death by Steven Colling 2012-12-31T18:55:00

Insane to have this amount of complexity in a 48 hour entry! I love the variety of skills and interactions. One of my favorites so far. Couldn't imagine trying to balance it in such a short time.

Encountered a bug of some kind; my king ended up gaining ~60 health when he got attacked. Still very interesting :)

Sheep Barbecue by bompo 2012-12-31T18:59:00

One of my favorites. Love the sound effects, the idea of stealing sheep. Slowly crept up on one, he got scared and ran TOWARDS me, so I nabbed him anyway :D

The Evil Space-Hippie by PAFdelirium 2012-12-31T19:20:00

LOVE the star effect, totally makes the game.

FWIW, your file host (file-upload.net) sucks. Following the "Windows" link shows a page with FIVE separate "download" buttons. One is real, four of them are ads. It doesn't give any indication as to which are which. Ended up clicking every one BUT the real download button. Next time just get dropbox & make a public link or something. :)

LD26 — Minimalism

LOWBAT by Foxtacy 2013-04-29T23:29:00

Cute concept, controls for flashlight felt REALLY laggy; multiple second delay between me pressing a button and something happening.

Rocket Ruins by TiDitto 2013-04-29T23:18:00

Thanks Axelhein for the windows build, wouldn't have been able to play otherwise.

]I enjoyed it up until the "final boss" room, then it was just trial and error of guessing which pit wouldn't kill me. Nothing fun in that. :(

QMD by DevWouter 2013-04-29T23:21:00

Crashes when running on my laptop, win7 x64 laptop, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730.

Back to Rainbows by Nangie 2013-04-30T00:58:00

Specifically, the error is:
The procedure entry point __crtCreateSymbolicLinkW could not e located in the dynamic link library MSVCR110.dll

A Minimal Conflict by sboerwinkle 2013-04-29T23:08:00

can't run it without a windows port, look forward to it.

Poke by Crowbeak 2013-04-30T00:16:00

Installed pyglet manually, errored with:
pyglet.media.riff.WAVEFormatException: AVbin is required to decode compressed media

Tried downloading pyglet.msi from http://www.pyglet.org/download.html, running says "You must be running Python 2.4 or later". I'm running Python 2.7. Oh well.

Destroy the Unnecessary by monosaccharide 2013-04-29T23:27:00

I like the mechanic, could have definitely used the separate "tutorial" as the first real level to let people know what the controls are.

Spheres by fueelin 2013-04-29T22:54:00

Only key I could press that seemed to have any effect was space, looked like a level warp? Otherwise lots of balls bouncing around and nothing looked like it changed anything.

Door by hockeygoalie5 2013-04-29T23:07:00

Very nice! Only note is that the "white" doorways were VERY hard to differentiate from standard walls on my laptop, to where I thought there were a couple of "kill rooms" you could enter and couldn't leave. I could have used a bit more "noise" in the walls to contrast the white rooms.

Little Planet of Doom by 2A1S 2013-04-29T23:57:00

Unplayably slow on my machine, got about 1 frame every 2 seconds.

Blitz's Minimalistic Runner by matthewj234 2013-04-30T01:03:00

My only complaint is you can't see very far in advanced given how fast you're going. It's easy to commit to a trajectory with jumps and end up screwed by a platform configuration you couldn't see at the time.

Fully agree on trying again - this was my 4th and it gets easier every time.

Colorobellum by TheMightyComp 2013-04-29T23:33:00

excellent game, excellent music.

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Rescue Run by Beanalby 2013-08-26T04:45:00

There are definitely some occasional quirks with the blocks, usually only after the 2nd or 3rd repeated push. I'll be seeing if I can figure out what's going on with them in the next few days.

Out Of Time by spliter 2013-08-28T00:33:00

Love it! perfect for the theme.

Quartz by Vavassor 2013-08-28T00:20:00

I really liked it, interesting mechanics and exploration.

Shuutshimi by awppy 2013-08-28T02:02:00

Best Pun© award.

#hindsight by ComicSans 2013-08-28T01:18:00

Can't figure out how to win; if I go to the back they say I need to use sensors (and the game interrupts them while talking to die), but I can't find any kind of sensors at the front. Love the theme and mechanics though.

Switch by Deep Water Games 2013-08-28T01:23:00

Couldn't run, missing MSVCP110D.dll You should probably distribute a release build instead of debug, people are more likely to have it.

Also, holy CRAP those are some big textures. I was wondering what the 80Mb zip consisted of, mostly just a couple of 10Mb pngs :)

Meat Game by Boneloaf 2013-08-28T00:23:00

I kept walking forward, falling off the screen, and that was it. Another 15 second wait for the game to reaload :-/

Reload by zn01wr 2013-08-28T01:38:00

Love the graphics and gameplay, but the fans were more annoying than fun. The high pitch whine in the music got annoying too.

The Lost Robos by almightyzentaco 2013-08-28T01:50:00

Great, loved playing the lost Vik...er, Robos! :)

10 Seciond Patriot by mscholz89 2013-08-28T01:54:00

Not sure it's working right, once I got to the bomb nothing I clicked on had any effect. 2nd time it went the clock counted down past zero, into negative. Down to -56 at the moment. :)

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Intense Combat Underwater - ICU by Salamander3 2014-05-02T00:20:00

What reason is there to ever raise the periscope, besides revealing your position? I didn't see any additional information when it was up.

Even when I saw enemy subs, it was only as they were zooming by the screen. Even if they were raised the entire time I don't think I could've hit one with a missile.

Heart of the Earth by Dans17 2014-05-02T01:42:00

I was totally on board, until the random death in the maze. No indication that it's coming (that I could see), and have to walk all the way back there across the river? Harsh.

I love the concept though, and it's a great amount of content for a game jam.

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Food Poisoning is Fun! by Beanalby 2014-12-10T05:33:00

Thanks for reminding me sergi0vargas, I forgot to keep the player away from the killzone. It's been fixed.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Mechanically Enhanced Nano Unit by Frosnite 2015-04-23T01:53:00

One of the most creative ones I've seen yet. Great job.

RUN -> JUMP ^ DELIVER by shadow64 2015-04-23T01:40:00

Mmm, burritos. I like the smashed burritos when the hit the wall, a nice detail.

Mighty Magnetic Force by pvwradtke 2015-04-23T01:33:00

Control was great, I wish there was a bit more analog ramp-up with magnetic repulsion when you get closer. As you get closer it's nothing nothing nothing SHOOT ACROSS THE ROOM!

I liked attracting the square to me, then slamming the right stick in the opposite direction to shoot it, felt very Magneto-ish.

LD33 — You are the Monster

Dis-o-rder by squirrelbot 2015-09-12T01:01:00

Love the theme, my only two notes are: a) the narration is quieter than the music, so I had to keep adjusting the volume, and b) faster scrolling text please! Had to sit around and wait for it.

Over The Course Of A Day by Blobo 2015-09-12T00:05:00

I was skeptical at first, but I admit I grinned through the whole thing. Liked the girl's reaction too. Great creativity!

Devil's Avocado by DeadFragment 2015-09-12T01:24:00

I really like it, the only request i have is to be able to see the town's stats when deciding if I want to accept their offering. I can't remember who has what faith or population... Oh well, *SMITE*.

Feed the Monster by humanatee_studios 2015-09-12T01:47:00

So many great little details. Loved the drinking mechanic (chewed through batteries tho!), loved the scuba mask, overall mood is excellent.

The Unseen by Wedge McCloud 2015-09-12T00:18:00

Always happy to see a strategy game in LD, nice mechanics once I figured them out. Could use some ramp up / introduction to avoid the instant "here ya go, 20 choices to make!"

Cycle by OccultOne 2015-09-11T23:56:00

Looks interesting, hard to figure out what does what. I kept picking up icons that I'm sure had some effect, but I didn't know what they were for.

The Orator by PapyPilgrim 2015-09-12T00:22:00

I like the idea of a political manipulation game, but I can't tell what's going on at all.
