LD25 — You are the Villain

StarRunner by Bobrocket 2012-12-17T21:34:00

The game lacks any sort of challenge, from what I can tell. It's as intense 10,000 points in as it is at the beginning. The enemies could use some properties, such as HP, speed, or moving in a wave pattern to make some of them harder to destroy.

Noticed my ship started firing blanks after a while. Was that intended, or due to stress on the garbage collection? I was mashing the shoot buttons like a madman.

Earthmageddon by calzoneman 2012-12-17T21:46:00

Wow, this game is actually very fun! And kudos to enfyrneaux for the tunnelling comment. It comes in handy.

Enemies have the perfect level of persistence. The longer I try to ignore them in favour of finishing off the last little island on earth, the more of a problem they become.

The only complaint I have from a gameplay perspective is enemy spawn location; it appears to be completely random, so if you're unlucky an enemy will spawn on/right next to you for some quick damage.

It's very fun though - I found myself playing through it multiple times

Peasant Smasher by fatSquirrel 2012-12-17T21:54:00

Could do with either swinging on an angle or doing arc sweeps. Those knights are pesky when circling. That stomp really comes in handy.

Mad Princess by AdventureIslands 2012-12-19T20:04:00

I actually found this to be a bit frustrating. Having to click at the top to change weapons is very inconvenient; being able to quickly switch traps via numbers on the keyboard would allow for better micromanaging. Placing a trap too close to another trap/the princess results in the trap being destroyed, and I did that by accident fairly often.

The agile characters are a bit much to deal with. Running by spike traps and crossbows is fine, but bypassing walls renders the wall pretty much pointless

A few minor tweaks and wider levels could really improve the game

Dracula's Treasure by 01010111 2012-12-18T01:36:00

Very cute aesthetic, nice music. The input lag is painful for me, though

Vixen by bentosmile 2012-12-18T20:37:00

Visual novels really aren't my thing, but there's a nice amount of diversity to what you can do for a quick little game! I think I lack the emotional attachment to appreciate it, though

GiTA by pnkthrepwood 2012-12-18T01:45:00

I love how you can hide in the tall grass to evade pursuers. It took me a while to get used to differentiating between policemen and regular folks, and it's really cool that citizens have different levels of awareness when you walk by them.

Some of them are aware of the fact that I just knifed 50 people in the past five minutes.

Royal Reptile Rampage by dalbinblue 2012-12-18T06:57:00

Regarding controls: from my emulator days I used to map WASD to face buttons on a PSX/SNES controller (or ESDF if you prefer), keeping jump in the middle and run on the left. Using a WASD setup, that'd be A to run, S to jump, and either W for fire D to eat, or D to fire W to eat.

Eating things needs to be more usable. It's pretty much impossible to eat villagers without backing them into corners, so being able to move with a claw outstretched, scooping them up, would work better. There's still a delay while eating, so it wouldn't overpower an armed crowd.

the fire also felt a bit underpowered. It was much easier to trample everything, and the best designs give every ability its place.

On the other hand, this has been one of the most impressive 48-hour games I've seen so far. Good work!

The Cards Never Lie by saguaro 2012-12-18T01:11:00

Very nice mood to this game. The aesthetic was nice, too. A bit straightforward, but held my attention.

Angry Purple Monster by ramoncb 2012-12-23T00:16:00

Made with Blender? Kudos, I have a hard enough time figuring out how to map textures with it, let alone code something!

I'm not really sure, but I feel as though you may have spent too much time on the graphics and not enough on the gameplay. It takes too long for the game to become interesting, and it also becomes overwhelming pretty quickly.

The Level by xandy 2012-12-18T20:39:00

Too easy, and there's a few bugs when displaying the level, but it's a neat idea!

Evil Gnome's Revenge by Spelchan 2012-12-22T23:51:00

The movement of the reindeer felt pretty good after a little bit. I couldn't see where where to take them at first, but it became clear after a bit.

As others mentioned, a few tweaks could really help - less obstacles, roaming reindeer, and the ability to herd multiple reindeer at once. Ah, but what can ya do?

The Accursed Moon by barkergames 2012-12-18T01:19:00

It's pretty fun, but enemies can shoot through walls, which can be irritating once the hunters start showing up. It can be tough to tell who is armed and who isn't until you're close, but the progression is pretty good

Silent night by krutech 2012-12-22T22:56:00

It seems to be just about impossible to open doors without waking everyone nearby. It's also far too difficult to maneuver around sleeping people. Sound also doesn't seem to actually alert people, just wake them up.

It's a solid effort, but I didn't find it all that fun to play - it felt too luck based, and you couldn't do anything quietly.

Munching Mower by bmoore 2012-12-18T21:15:00

Just as Crowbeak said, there needs to be something more to this to make it feel like a game. Moving enemies, or a time limit or something. Right now it's a bit lacking, even though the music is delightful

Project Lightning by dark_hunter 2012-12-22T23:20:00

Melee attacks should move with the player, I think, so it feels more like a sword. The ability to deflect bullets would be neat, too. The ability to shoot through walls confused me at first, but I quickly realised it's better to just leave all the sentries alone. If they're smart enough to stay out of the way, they don't have to die. Lucky them!

It's a good effort none-the-less, and the character sprites are pretty solid.

It Should be a Crime! by Ysty 2012-12-22T23:38:00

Gotta give you full credit on the theme. It definitely SHOULD be a crime. It took me a little while to figure out what to do, and the third stage got pretty hectic. Fun idea!

You ARE The Villain by Kwrky 2012-12-23T00:05:00

There are two things this REALLY needed: Voice acting (and some more sounds to enhance or relieve tension) and the ability to advance text at the user's own pace. Would have helped the game become significantly more enjoyable.

Tick! by purrpurr 2012-12-19T20:25:00

Text runs off the screen in some spots, so I wasn't able to grasp the entirety of what was going on. The gameplay basically consisted of mashing Z and Up until the enemy died; I didn't have any use for strategy or kicking.

It looked pretty good, though, and there was definitely effort in coming up with a storyline to play through

Pyro Scramble by jonathan 2012-12-23T00:46:00

It's impossible to keep your score from plummeting, isn't it? I didn't feel like there was any goal or point to it, so I wasn't able to play it for long.

The controls felt very nice and smooth, but a turbo/dash would have been nice

Do the Creep! by Master0010 2012-12-18T01:25:00

Playing as a creeper is a pretty neat idea. The bunngoat sprites look like they have scrotums hanging from their chins, though, and it's a tad off-putting for me

Roadkill by cuts 2012-12-18T21:08:00

oh my god that was fun

I didn't like driving directly into pedestrians nearly as much as I liked drifting into them and swatting them like my car was a big ol' baseball bat. I wish there was some kind of "handbrake" button that would exaggerate your car's drifting so you could swerve in wide arcs and slam pedestrians around better.

For what it is though it's a lot of fun.

the BRINK by radmars 2012-12-23T00:38:00

The music kept cutting out on me in stage 2 and stage 3. After about 20 seconds or so, it'd just stop.

Took me a while to really figure out what was going on, and the lack of direction made it feel like I was wandering aimlessly until I started to learn the level layouts.

I have to give credit to the visual design. They way you start out on the clouds, then make your way into what I thought was a hospital gone wrong, to the final area, to the ending - it put EVERYTHING into perspective and wow. I didn't think about what I was doing until I was done, and by then it was too late.

Very potent.

Also the kick animation is adorable. Bunch of happy little hearts clinging to you. So satisfying to kick them away. Piss off! Needed more knockback, though.

CORRUPTIONEXE by Xgor 2012-12-17T19:52:00

Really neat idea. There's little in the way of gameplay but the interactivity with the environment is very cool

Target: Restaurant ! by illugion 2012-12-18T20:23:00

It's a very fun little puzzle game concept, but unfortunately it's very short (at present). The visual style is great

Hubris of the Bone Lord by awppy 2012-12-17T21:16:00

If you're having trouble doing the sliding punch, just mash the "punch forward" button. Pressing the button early doesn't reset the combo (you can experiment with this when there are no enemies around if you want to practice)

Hubris of the Bone Lord by awppy 2012-12-17T23:51:00

Markavian - sorry, it isn't very clear from the screen, I guess. You have to press the number (on the keyboard above qwerty, NOT the numpad) corresponding to the difficulty you want. ie press 1 to select Easy

Hubris of the Bone Lord by awppy 2012-12-18T02:14:00

soupy: in retrospect I should have allowed the option to retry the current stage from a game over; getting to the third stage and having to restart from the beginning is frustrating

Hubris of the Bone Lord by awppy 2012-12-22T23:43:00

Yeah, I'm pretty proud of the way the AI works. They actually betray my expectations sometimes!

I really wanted to get some music in - thinking of composing with a Sega Genesis sound board. Music was unfortunately one of the many things that was axed due to time restraints. I also wanted to implement a sense of progression: acquisition of new skills and stats, as well as unique attacks for bosses/other enemies.

But that'll all have to wait until I have more time to work on it. I could only squeeze so much into 48 hours :}

Age of Umpires by Tom 7 2012-12-22T22:42:00

This is fun. A couple things seemed odd to me (goalies being opposite colours of the rest of their team, for one) and you could score by sliding into the net from behind, but that aside, it's a lot of fun.

I found it really hard to arouse suspicion by just /playing/ but if you kick people out who didn't do anything wrong, well...makes it easier. You'd think once the referee scored a goal everyone would stop and go "hang on a second..." Nope. Didn't even TRY playing as an actual hockey team; ref was too fun.

Some of the players started getting REALLY mad at me though.

Dicktator Simulator by barigorokarl 2012-12-19T07:03:00

This game was FAR more enjoyable than I was expecting it to be based on the screenshot and title. The sounds were great, but the comments when shooting the floor/ceiling/allies was too repetitive.

I wanted to do some silly voice-overs for my own game as well, but ran out of time. Glad someone got some in, though!

MortVille by Overkill 2012-12-19T06:44:00

The gameplay and control scheme feels very smooth. It's no trouble to have your character running around collecting orbs WHILE you're managing your minions, and I really like that.

In Digito by jonnopon3000 2012-12-17T20:07:00

The game crashes on me when attempting to restart from the game over screen (and there's a typo in "Resart", but no biggie).

It would be better if the tiles moved in sync to the music, but the gameplay is slightly behind the beat.

Zone 4 doesn't appear to be possible to clear. There's just one narrow hallway, and invincibility tiles only protect across one panel, and they're all spaced 3 panels apart.

Though, I suppose I can just edit the zone data, and that'll let me see the ending!

Robot Brain Mastermind by Shot 2012-12-22T23:05:00

Interesting idea for a logical puzzle game. A shame you weren't able to get the game done, it could be lots of fun and plenty challenging with more space for AI instructions.

Sir Cat by JoeCool17 2012-12-17T20:36:00

Does this require a 32-bit OS? When I run main.py I'm given the following error:

couldn't load module. DLL load failed: %1 is not a valid Win32 application. (from main.py line 171, 17)

It also says NameError: global name pygame is not defined, but this is after installing pygame

I'm running the 64-bit version of python 2.7

Sir Cat by JoeCool17 2012-12-18T06:18:00

ripter: you need to have pygame installed

Sir Cat by JoeCool17 2012-12-18T20:14:00

It looks like you're not bound to the camera, so hiding at the very top makes it much easier to win. Had to read the readme to learn the controls, though. Movement feels too sluggish. The diving/rising mechanic is neat, just not responsive enough

The Iron Warlord by Cake_Catastrophe 2012-12-17T20:56:00

Being able to subjugate minions is a nice touch, and actually becomes important in stages 8 and 9. Everything prior to that feels a bit pointless though.

Having a beacon point to the nearest energy crystal would be really nice though.

Drillizer by stigmawall 2012-12-18T00:37:00

Pretty fun, and an interesting reversal on Missile Command. I ran into two bugs in the five rounds I played - in my second game, the drill wouldn't shake all the remaining people away, and in the third game one of my bullets didn't explode, which locked up the turrets and forced a loss. After refreshing the page I didn't have any problems, and it was pretty fun. I actually found it a tad easy, though.

Escape From Prison Planet by gameXcore 2012-12-18T20:56:00

707, augh! I find it best to save the missiles for large clumps of enemies. It increases your chance for cargo drops when you can take 3 of them out with a single missile.

Great game, and hard to believe it was done in 48 hours! You must not be new to it.

With the dependencies installed, the game crashed immediately when I opened it in "Sandbox mode" (avast is very nervous about EXE files, even ones that I've created myself). Opening it normally, it runs fine, so anyone WITH the dependencies getting it to crash, check file/folder/user permissions is my best guess.

This game is awesome.

Conquering Oneself by VDZ 2012-12-18T22:58:00

BADDIEMAN reporting in from the current top of the leaderboards (level 12 currently)

Holy wow, I'm seriously impressed with this. Music is great, graphics are...actually a bit underwhelming, the concept is brilliant, and the gameplay builds upon itself in such a brilliant way. The ability to only see the first ~16 commands makes things interesting, because I just finished a 45-round battle so the second 2/3 are a mystery to me.

I've got a few strategy tips for how to play. I'd say DON'T READ THIS UNLESS YOU'RE COMPLETELY STUMPED.

For the first few battles, focus on a strictly attack/counter-attack pattern. You shouldn't have any trouble until the boss starts casting A Strange Spell.

Ensure you have these abilities at all times (with the exception of the round after you lose your primary ability)

Attack
Counter Attack
Ghost Punch
Disruption

I've been using those four primarily for a back and forth battle, which has lasted well so far, but I feel it's going to become a problem as battles get longer.

Make your first attack distinct. Use something you never use, like Defend, as your very first command. This acts as a flag to tell you when the boss' attack pattern has finished execution and is starting from the top again (for those of us too lazy to keep track of every attack)

I also like to take a screencap of the analysis for reference during battle because I can't be bothered to memorize things!

You can tell from the size of the comments that I like this.

Conquering Oneself by VDZ 2012-12-19T06:45:00

VDZ: would this be the Download (normal) or the Post-LD (v2) link?

Conquering Oneself by VDZ 2013-01-09T00:36:00

Glad to see your results ended up quite good! Again, congratulations on this entry.

Holly Jolly Pyromaniac by UndergroundPixel 2012-12-19T06:40:00

Lots of fun for such a simple game, and it looks and sounds absolutely beautiful. When viewing the leaderboards, the title screen would not refresh properly upon pressing a key (x, escape, enter) and pressing x a few times would display either the credits page or the How To Play screen, drawn overtop the existing leaderboards screen, but it would fix itself after that.

Wasn't sure what was going on during my first play, but I had it figured by my second. Good fun!

HenchManager by Maato 2012-12-17T21:08:00

Played the web version. Controls were a tad frustrating and could use some polish, but the concept was nice, if a bit thin in action sometimes. Cameras were a nice aesthetic touch

LD26 — Minimalism

Depth by Maple 2013-05-15T00:09:00

1198 to complete from the getgo. Took me a while to realize WASD and the arrows were different things (and that the arrows actually did something)

I get what's going on with regards to moving and turning rooms, but this is WAY too high-concept for my dumb ass to figure out. Still, it was curious enough that I kept stumbling blindly around until I cleared all the rooms.

The audio was extremely fitting, so good job on that, too!

Funky Lincoln Saves the Day by TheCze 2013-05-02T02:28:00

Funky Lincoln Teaches Typing

This game was really neat. Congrats on your clever idea - it was well executed and the difficulty ramps up quite nicely. Around level 10 I started getting bored of it, but kept going to see the end.

Ai'n Av Diortem by awppy 2013-05-01T16:41:00

@Tyro and ahm99 - that means you don't have the system requirements mentioned at the top. You need both the XNA redist and .NET framework installed on your machine for the game to run. If you have Windows 7, you should only need to download the XNA framework. If you're still having problems after that, I'd love for you to hit me up on twitter (@LordGarvar) so I can get it sorted out. Or, if you don't have twitter, through email: aw _at_ ppy _dot_ sh

Ai'n Av Diortem by awppy 2013-05-02T01:01:00

@nddrylliod: those are all coming, but we didn't have time to get them in during the jam D:

@infinitedog: the idea behind the game was starting out with everything and working toward minimalism through the gameplay but it's not quite there yet

@hgouveia I originally got started on XNA 3.1 and haven't had incentive to update. I'll put the source code up as soon as I get it all in one place (working on that now). I've just been very, very busy lately. And tired.

Ai'n Av Diortem by awppy 2013-05-02T14:16:00

@KilledByAPixel wow, I'm surprised you thought to give it a go with the 360 controller - I coded support for it but didn't document it anywhere except in the actual code, hah!

@Jyrkface Agreed; the movement and aiming controls need tightening - we made some decisions early on that were good on paper but didn't play well, so we'll be tweaking them as the game grows some more. I'm planning on uploading a new post-jam build containing tweaked controls and *actual sound effects* within a week or two, when I'm not busy with playing other LD26 games!

Maybe we'll even have a logo!

Jejeboy: Baby Volleyball by Jejeboy 2013-05-15T00:33:00

The audio grew old quickly, since it would repeat after each failure, but once I got the hang of the physics the game itself was entertaining. Nice menu aesthetics, too. Very simple, very elegant

Ragnet Mini by Kappy 2013-05-02T02:03:00

The controls were quite confusing, but I soon discovered the magic fun of doing endless doughnuts!

A Puzzling Composition by whilefun 2013-05-02T02:36:00

This was a lot of fun for a little distraction, and feels just like what a game-jam game should be. Excellent work!

LD27 — 10 Seconds

The First Odyssey by davisan 2013-08-31T19:35:00

Couldn't figure out what to do once partway into the castle. Saw a button I could hit with an arrow firing up through a tunnel, but it didn't seem to do anything, or I couldn't find the companion button.

Swipe The Roast by cobrajs 2013-08-28T23:56:00

I didn't see any groceries on the shelves and there only seemed to be one item per game?

Found it much easier to control when going backwards. That's how I'll do my shopping from now on...

Flajora's Flask by Cosmologicon 2013-08-29T23:29:00

I cheated and looked at the walkthrough twice (getting the shoes and train ticket)

This is sizeable for a LD game and plays fairly nicely, but the gem rooms were a bit frustrating to me

Ten Second Trip by netgrind 2013-08-29T16:54:00

It gave me a real demoscene kinda feel to it! :D

Out Of Time by spliter 2013-08-28T23:42:00

Took me a few tries to figure out what I was supposed to do, but it was pretty neat! Loved the idea of reversing time to achieve something that takes more than 10 seconds in 10 seconds

Billy! Cleanup on aisle 5! by endermath 2013-08-28T01:56:00

Overall a fun little jar-smasher. Cool song.

Dust in the Candy Megaverse by Xgor 2013-08-27T21:50:00

Ah, final level was tough. I had to start in reverse to get through it. Wasn't until the level prior that I realized I was a vacuum cleaner vacuuming literal piles of dust. Vocal levels were a bit low but other than that it was a very solid entry!

Hungry Fishers Dream Team by TijmenTio 2013-08-30T00:17:00

Very polished entry. How do you skip the intro quickly? Every time I died I sat through it for quite a bit, but since the only way to lose is to be forgetful, I couldn't let myself give up on it. Finding the green fish was a little annoying as were the aiming controls, but the visuals and mood were top-notch!

Shuutshimi by awppy 2013-08-28T13:26:00

@sP0CKEr: The good news is, I can reproduce the issue you're having using a VM at work - I'm assuming it's the same problem (System.InvalidOperationException). A general information-free crash being reported by XNA (if you hit More Details from the Windows crash screen).

The bad news is, Win8 x64 has a myriad of compatibility problems with XNA and it might take a while to find out what the issue is. I do hope to resolve the problem though. ETA would be a day or two to figure out what the problem is, time depending.

Shuutshimi by awppy 2013-08-28T22:05:00

@sP0CKEr2 After some digging, I've found AN error in the AudioEngine constructor within XNA. This error is caused by having no default playback device on your system. Can you confirm whether or not you have anything that plays audio?

I got a working build in my Win8x64 VM by pulling the entire audio engine out, but I'm reluctant to make such a build available because of how important the audio is to the game

Shuutshimi by awppy 2013-08-29T02:25:00

@Diogo Thanks for the link. I looked into it and found a solution:

In order to update the Audio Engine I needed XNA 4, which meant I needed Visual Studio 2010. I got that sorted out, only to discover XNA 4 deprecated / changed(broke) a bunch of functionality. It took me about 3 hours to fight with it (thus far I really hate XNA 4 and won't be using it any more) but I managed to get a port of the code RELATIVELY close to the existing game. Party Time is slightly nerfed due to a bug in how XNA 4 draws alphatransparent textures - or perhaps it's one of my spritebatch or render settings, or the fact that I now have to render to a target prior to rendering to the backbuffer thanks to undesirable changes to the way spritebatch works

But I did it. Had a friend with Windows 8 test it, and he says it works so...Let's never do this again!

Shuutshimi by awppy 2013-08-29T15:33:00

Original version worked on Win8 64? ...huh!

Diogo: if you boot the game up and it closes immediately, a log should be written to C:\shuutlog.txt (I think that's the filename) - what does the output on that say?

Shuutshimi by awppy 2013-09-01T12:51:00

@zkenshin Funny you should mention a mobile version - on the Sunday of the jam, AnyYes and I were discussing porting it to mobile devices, and what changes we'd need to make to the game's mechanics for that to happen.

It sounded like an interesting idea, especially the mobile version of the shop screen (which would play much differently). I don't have any mobile dev experience myself, but I know someone who does, and I'll talk to him about porting it if there's enough interest!

Shuutshimi by awppy 2013-09-16T20:30:00

@SnoringFrog - the only known reasons for crashes are no default sound device and missing system requirements. Do you have the XNA 3.1 redistributable installed?

If you ran the Windows 8 version and it silently crashed, it should create a log file at C:\shuutlog.txt - what does that log say?

You're a fly by Esenti 2013-08-30T23:30:00

The black = good things, grey = bad things could have been telegraphed a bit better, such as having enemies be red. Border indicators would have also been nice; you need very good reaction time to avoid running into them. The flies sometimes did their best to dodge me and it gets hectic trying to find a mate with a ton of enemies chasing you, but that's what makes it fun. Very challenging, though

Trapped by svenardo 2013-08-30T23:37:00

Collision detection was a bit too sensitive for my liking. I touched the lava while trying to round a corner in the level with the long winding halls and that effectively disabled the game, since you need those +10's to make it there and they don't respawn. It needed a bit of polish, but for a jam this is a pretty big game!

Rude Bear Radio by Alex Rose 2013-08-28T00:55:00

You really nailed the WarioWare aesthetic. Some of the games play really well (Space Invaders, Mario) while others are less responsive (Angry Birds). Would have liked if the rounds ended once you died instead of having the clock run down. But overall, a good use of the concept and fun to play.

BouncyTime by Brejlounek 2013-08-29T23:01:00

VERY interesting concept, and well-executed!

T minus 10 by Pixelboy_85 2013-08-30T23:54:00

The first time a space helmet fell out of the rocket, konked me in the head, and broke the helmet I was wearing made me laugh. Same goes for the first time I realised you can stay at the far left and be invincible...until I got smoked by a meteor. Kinda sucks that health crates can damage you, but realistically, it makes sense. Pointy corners and whatnot.

Red Or Blue ? by leo_gri 2013-08-31T00:33:00

Burrito Blaze by Skye 2013-09-02T00:52:00

not a lot of game CONCEPTS make me laugh, but there's something about the magic of burritos that hit the mark

Game closed when I hit "Play Again", but other than that it ran fine

Seanan's Brewery by ZYXer 2013-08-29T00:12:00

This is a very impressive game, both visually and functionally, for something made in such a short amount of time! Good job!

Dodge These by Destroyer40k 2013-08-31T01:15:00

Staying to the far right allows you to dodge everything.

This game is chaotic otherwise! Makes you feel awesome when you navigate a minefield flawlessly

Silver by SnoringFrog 2013-08-31T18:42:00

Found hurdles to be fairly easy; beat it on my first try. Long jump, however, took me more tries than everything else combined. That one was tough.

Clever ending!

Mission: Save Gliese by thetheodor98 2013-08-31T00:47:00

Fairly easy, but still fun! Good work, and a good selection of levels!

Forage by Nucleartree123 2013-08-31T03:22:00

Would have preferred the collect type only change once every five seconds, or only on some special trigger as opposed to every second, but other than that, it's more than I'd be able to do in 2 hours!

Ain't Got Time For Lootin' by IHateATMFees 2013-09-06T01:03:00

There are a few good ideas at play here but it's lacking a lot in polish. There was a great joke at the end that made me smile, though!

Dinosaur Jr. vs the 1960's by devi ever 2013-09-01T02:43:00

Didn't realize how to win the first couple times, but I got it eventually!

Baking Bread by soerensen3 2013-08-28T23:22:00

9880. Pro-tier internal clock?

I found the score to accuracy discrepancy pretty forgiving. I'd think a discrepancy of 0.5s would be worth more than the 50 point penalty that it was

Simple game, but a very unexpected concept!

Rocket Rampage by Reicher 2013-08-31T19:05:00

The decision to make it impossible to go backwards was a good one imo, otherwise it would have been too easy to pick up fuel at high speeds

DogRocket by Moof 2013-08-26T13:04:00

Nice and chaotic, especially with all the parts flopping around, but the fact that the parts are kind of hard to click on and don't always snap to the object can get a little frustrating. I found it pretty hard to get more than two rockets attached, but the game certainly made me want to try several times!

Blackout by X-0r 2013-08-31T18:27:00

The music was awesome. I'm not sure if I got the "ending" or not; as soon as I used the bat it brought me right back to the title screen. I'm assuming I was wrong, because I played through the game again (all doors were unlocked) several times and just systematically hit each dude one after another but it always just brought me to the title screen

Lil' Kingdom Strives To Survive by lucidlarva 2013-08-30T23:25:00

Being able to pan with keyboard and not mouse would have been a huge control improvement. Other than that, it was a solid entry. The greedier you get with the housing, the tougher it is to deal with upkeep, so there's an interesting balancing act at work.

10 Seconds by VoxPlacitum 2013-08-29T00:21:00

I felt kind of at a loss for what I was supposed to be choosing. I won the first round I played (I don't know why) and lost the next two I played (I don't know why).

The writing was pretty strong. I just wish I had a better understanding of what was going on

QuickDraw - Java by Neil 2013-09-02T04:33:00

Very interesting gameplay - this would be great to see on a DS or similar. Noticed in the beginning that RMB and LMB are switched around - it says RMB is draw black, but it's draw white.

Pretty short, and after one playthrough with a bit of back-and-forth I got the hang of drawing the fireball and just wrecked house with it

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-08-29T18:10:00

I can't say much more than what was already said, but good job and I'm glad to see another STG out here! :D

Life'Short by fgielow 2013-08-28T01:23:00

Didn't really fit the jam theme at all, lack of audio is a shame as the visuals are cool. Wrong place wrong time for this one, as it's not bad, it just doesn't fit the jam.

Bit-ship Ld27 By lcass by lcass 2013-08-28T23:37:00

I really wish you could click on a tile to select it, as that is my natural instinct and I did so several times, placing tiles I shouldn't have placed. It was a bit overwhelming and complicated, which is a bit of a burden for most people. I think the learning curve can easily put someone off.

I played around a bit after watching the tutorial, but still didn't fully understand what I was doing or what my objective was :(

Half the Time by ZeppelinCaptain 2013-09-01T17:34:00

That had a powerful narrative for a game about circles rolling through squares in order to survive. Well done!

I need to save the world! by sheigeno 2013-08-28T01:04:00

Nice simple concept. Really makes you work to get that world-saving score. I liked that I also saved Saturn.

S0LB0T by XaiZil 2013-08-30T23:08:00

Lack of audio was disappointing and controls were a bit finnicky, but I felt myself drawn more into the game the more I played. I felt like the boss had too much health, but all the same, it kept me moving around and on my toes.

Then, that bit at the end.

Well, I'm not going to give anything away, but it got down to the wire. I mean right down to the wire. You've got some pretty solid design ideas in this little wonder.

Pistols at Dawn by aherbez 2013-08-26T13:23:00

Controls for shooting felt a little finicky - oftentimes if I moved my mouse out of the canvas after clicking it just wouldn't shoot, but I eventually got the hang of it. Round 1 headshots are very satisfying! Nice entry, and clever take/wordplay on the theme

Pizza Time by DrSuperSocks 2013-08-28T02:02:00

Looking forward to seeing where it goes.

ToTheRescue by SaiKai 2013-08-29T22:55:00

Pretty solid entry. It was a bit easy but the level designs were good and I'm pretty sure with the mechanics you have in place you could flesh out a deeper game with more interesting puzzles and challenges.

Orction House Panic by Dry Tree 2013-08-31T22:10:00

Loved the dialog, and the mechanics were pretty nifty as well! Also liked how characters would turn around with this "What the hell, man?" look on their faces when you forced them to bid on something

Dig Dream by kill0u 2013-09-01T14:55:00

It ran a little slow for me and jumps felt too floaty (not being able to hop) but the reverse time mechanic was well-implemented for the most part. It was fun seeing it actually rewind, but if you were in the middle of a platforming section it was hard to recover, since there's no prompt, it just immediately jumps back in

Save me from your dream by LonelyTimeLord 2013-09-02T15:44:00

A game about small underdog fish fighting sharks? You've got Good Taste, my friend.

Ran into some hit detection issues in the level where you get 3 batteries off the hop, and the fact that enemies don't move make it more akin to a puzzle game, but for a first timer I'd say this came together pretty well!

Stache Of Glory 2: Shavin' Through Dimensions by Avant-Marde 2013-08-30T00:07:00

It had a lot of charm, but I found the game far too frustrating to play all the way through. One simple mistake brings you back to the beginning of the game, and I've played the first six to nine dimension instances dozens of times. Some of the agents move at such a speed that you can't jump over them until they turn around, but they won't turn around until after your time is up.

Sleep Consultant by flashkick 2013-09-06T01:20:00

Surprisingly fun game! After getting a hang of the mechanics I absolutely crushed all who opposed, though. It ended sooner than I wanted it to.

Who's up for 28 ATK, 17 Heal, and 48 uses?

Loopy Lumberjack by UndergroundPixel 2013-08-29T17:47:00

That dance mode! :D

Journey to the Edge of Time by Daisuke909 2013-08-31T18:51:00

Got to the final boss but there was no feedback on whether or not my attacks were doing anything. I'm assuming they weren't, because after a minute or two of healing/hitting, I eventually died

Aliens and such by Waynetron 2013-08-29T13:13:00

Very easy to understand, pick up, and go without even remembering to read your introduction. Very clever game design. It was really fun!

Time To Cook, Comrade by KevinZuhn 2013-08-28T01:45:00

Great work. This is a really unique concept that puts a pretty cool spin on the 10 second theme.

Lokopolis by Nik Sudan 2013-08-29T17:03:00

Seeing "THE CYCLOPS IS COMING" is terrifying!

Magnus Bacon's "The 10 Second Sell" by MisterDerek2 2013-08-30T00:32:00

Nice FF-esque sounds and sprites. Audio was really good, but I didn't feel any incentive to keep playing after a while.

Knowing that I don't have to type spaces is nice, though. Time saver

Sprites.CSV: Cute,Snuggly,Versatile by awppy 2014-04-29T04:19:00

@Magdev

Do you have .NET 4.0?
Do you have XNA 4.0? That might be a requirement, too. It shouldn't be but tbh I have no idea what the dependencies are

Sprites.CSV: Cute,Snuggly,Versatile by awppy 2014-04-29T12:48:00

@Fritzendugan: Thanks for the feedback and insight! Also, thanks for reminding me:

You can resize the game window by pressing either 1, 2, 3 or 4 on the keyboard. No fullscreen though; that was disabled to make preserving pixel aspect ratio easier ):

Sprites.CSV: Cute,Snuggly,Versatile by awppy 2014-05-03T00:31:00

@TobiasW - I feel you on the Escape thing (I did that at LEAST once during development). Normally would put an "Are you sure you want to quit?" overlay, but didn't afford the time ):

Sub Bomber by Rahazan 2014-05-03T01:47:00

http://puu.sh/8wR69.png BIG AAAAAAIR

This game is very difficult but also very fun. Checked this out because I saw a neat-looking gif in the post mortems

Sadly, you do not get Front Flip For Style points, nor do you get points for backflipping through a gate you've already crossed and that makes me very sad

You did some really cool stuff with the music, too. Congrats on a solid entry!

FALL! by DanDias 2014-05-03T00:58:00

Game locks up when asking me to submit/not submit. Luckily this did not stop me from actually playing.

It's quite a fun concept, but a little hard to control what with the whole spinning and smashing into things!

Ogre's Gold by asotelo94 2014-05-03T01:36:00

It started off interestingly enough, but the torches you throw are completely useless once the ogre starts chasing you and are frustratingly weak in general, and the fourth stage is unreasonably difficult. Once the ogre spots you it will not stop chasing you, and because you have to stop to throw a torch that will only light one or two paces ahead of you, it becomes unwinnable. Enjoyed the first 3 stages a bit more than the 4th

One Cold Night by hyouko 2014-05-03T01:19:00

Didn't fully read the controls before playing, since pressing the dig key skipped the text. Did eventually figure out what sniffing and digging did; never figured out what the point of barking was. Finally found the last trapped person, but as soon as I approached and pressed the dig button, it counted as "found" and immediately skipped the text ):

SkyManta by snickersnacks 2014-04-29T03:46:00

The boss' OHKO attack was kind of a bummer but the rest of it was pretty fun.

The lack of a crosshair and having your shots aimed at your score meter took some getting used to and made it harder to learn though

Mr. Fluffykin's Great Sorting Adventure (AKA where your internet comes from) by Two Scoop Games 2014-04-29T03:36:00

Does a great job at showing how to play within the game itself thanks to the clean, simple visuals, and the theme is cute. The multiple control schemes is a nice addition, but none of them work quite perfectly and that adds to the already-stressful gameplay.
