LD27 — 10 Seconds

Steven Seagal: Hard to SWAT by farmergnome 2013-09-03T17:51:00

Amazing interpretation of the theme! Really unique turn based concept, although I think it would work really well with more time (out of your control since this was 10 sec theme) or maybe some other kind of rule for movement (distance or number of shots/etc). This would make for an amazing post-compo game, so I'll check out your latest version right away! As always, your games are really fun and engaging. Great job!

Castle Clocksworth by My Sweet Whomp 2013-08-28T09:53:00

This is one of the best LD entries I've ever seen. It has tons of charm, catchy music, great graphics, wonderful pacing, a decent challenge that isn't too steep, and a rewarding boss fight. This is seriously a triumph. CONGRATS! -SonnyBone

Apotheosis by bytegrove 2013-08-27T19:26:00

Completed it my first time playing with a score of 23 seconds. This is a really great approach to the theme, and the graphical style is an odd yet pleasing blend of elements. The song is very fitting but the sound effects are a bit harsh and drown out the beauty of the experience, I think. Great work all around! -SB

My Tenth Adventure by DiscoFish 2013-09-13T01:40:00

The visual style and animations are simply phenomenal. It's SO SMOOTH! The audio really helps to set the mood, and it honestly feels like I'm playing a much more detailed and complete game than I actually am. Does NOT feel like a compo entry at all, and that's a compliment. GREAT WORK!

Detective Awesomepants by xel 2013-09-01T22:26:00

Refreshing take on the theme... great job! Nice pixel art and the song worked well with the game. Some of the puzzles were a bit easy but for 10 seconds, what else could I expect? Some of the scenarios were pretty funny, too.

Pleading Rain by Brassawiking 2013-09-01T20:07:00

AWESOME idea and great interpretation of the theme. Really tense moments, especially after you get into the plot of it all and things start to unwind. I managed to get SSS rank without any help. Great experience!

Legend of Troll by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2013-08-27T19:35:00

Wow. First of all, the stage music and visuals go so well together. The design of the characters, the colors, and the layering/shading in the stage are all very well done. I ran into a few bugs and it needs some tweaking, but what you were able to create here is a great starting point for something that could be incredibly satisfying. Please keep working on this!

Legend of Troll by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2013-08-27T19:39:00

Also... I had an idea while playing. The troll selection mechanic should be based on both positioning and order. It would be nice to be able to just tap ctrl to cycle through, or hold ctrl and press a direction to select the troll to the right or left of the current troll. The way it is now, it's not easy to determine which troll you will select. -SB

SliP by Sakuyan 2013-09-03T20:33:00

Cool characters! I like the song but that canonball is LOUUUUDDDDD!!! This is a refreshing take on the theme and the controls work great with a gamepad. Good work!

RainbowBlock by Zaelza 2013-09-01T19:17:00

AWESOME idea and execution. You did really well with the theme. Controls are great the entire concept is hilarious. Great work!

Scraith by lambomang 2013-09-13T01:53:00

Oddly creepy even though it has a very simplistic visual style. You were able to convey a lot with a very limited palette and minimal assets, so good work!

Flooded Dungeons by ripatti 2013-09-01T19:37:00

AWESOME! Really well done for the time frame, but honestly... it's just really well done even without the compo time limit. Wonderful spriting and you packed a really entertaining experience into this relatively simple mechanic. Very polished and a great, innovative approach to the theme. Congrats!

Solitude by rxi 2013-08-30T17:27:00

Great combination of audio and lighting to create an appropriate mood. Simple mechanics used to deliver an interesting and compelling little story. Great work!

10 Second Tai by Teejay5 2013-09-13T01:08:00

Um.... lol

Some nice lighting effects going on in here, actually. The game is funny and I just wish there was an actual upbeat song to go with the totally ridiculous action. Good work!

Time Frame by Random Seed Games 2013-09-13T01:25:00

Great mood and a very interesting take on the theme. I see where you wanted to go with this, but you obviously didn't have time to flesh it out with more detailed moments of things moving slowly to really get the point across. I'll check out the post-compo version because I like where this is going! Great art and audio!

Highway Hero by raincole 2013-09-01T16:20:00

Really innovative concept! It's a little hard to get the hang of it at first, but then it gets much better when you start to learn the timing of things. Great use of theme! Gonna check out the post compo version now!

Hungry Fishers Dream Team by TijmenTio 2013-09-01T18:57:00

WAY better fish AI than Call of Duty. This is hard as crap and really dark/moody. Awesome interpretation of the theme... really innovative idea with the swapping. I think that the harpoon controls suck, though... because you can't aim while charging. You're kinda locked in to place while the fish swim away. Could certainly use some analog stick controls and some tweaks to be really solid, but what you have here is super stinkin' rad. GREAT music, too.

-SonnyBone

Shuutshimi by awppy 2013-08-30T17:12:00

Hilarious! I love the zaniness of it all. At first I was confused when my controls got jacked up, but then I realized what the heck was going on. The music was REALLY rad, too! Lots to like about this game. - SB

Rude Bear Radio by Alex Rose 2013-08-30T17:37:00

Before the compo, everyone said, "Oh it'll just be a bunch of WarioWare clones". What you've done here is an obvious Wario Ware clone, but let me explain why it works.

1) IT'S HILARIOUS, especially Rudey Island.
2) Everything works. RRRRRRR is a bit rough but you get the hang of it. The minigames are challenging but aren't frustrating. Good balance!
3) Topical / relevant references. You immediately know what's happening as soon as the game pops up. You don't have to guess what's going on (well, other than Rudey Island lol)
4) RUDE BEAR

I am humbled by the things you said about me on our game page. I'm glad that I could make you feel welcome and I'm so glad that you keep coming back. Your games are always entertaining, and I look forward to them.

Great job with everything on this one. You just keep getting better. Keep at it!

Audenary by Andrio 2013-08-29T18:00:00

This is really good, very hard and very very good! :D Great job!

Hallucivian by Hypnohustla 2013-09-12T16:44:00

I love this! Great work! //Ditto

10 Second Paper Flight by Gamepopper 2013-09-01T20:09:00

HILARIOUS! Watching this in the stream really turned my previous rage into comedy. Seeing it done to someone else is the best part.

MegaPunch by Nick Weihs 2013-09-01T23:13:00

AWESOME! Got lucky and had a few battles with a stranger. Worked great with m 360 controller and Xpadder. Awesome spriting, really fitting and rad music, and great controls. Awesome work for the jam!

Choice Matters by donan 2013-09-01T15:41:00

Funny moments with a nice little 'sleuth' soundtrack. Clean visuals and an interesting take on the theme.

Step Out by bitserum 2013-09-03T20:45:00

Awesome idea and great implementation of the theme! Playing this with a gamepad was really satisfying once I remapped jump to a button instead of 'up'. I thought it was over then BAM another set of puzzles and an all new world. Deceptively deep and a great challenge with perfect progressing/learning curve. Great audio, great visuals, and solid controls. You should be proud!

Cherry Bomber by asc3nsion 2013-09-01T18:32:00

AWESOME CONCEPT! Really innovative idea and the game is just too damn cute. I love the expressions on the cupcakes when you kill them. Awesome sound effects, too!

Exploratite Mitae by Lubial 2013-09-12T20:56:00

Wonderful atmosphere! The visuals and audio blend to make a lasting impression. This is a very beautiful experiment!

Lost in the Darkness by TobiasW 2013-09-01T18:21:00

Awesome idea! Your interpretation of the theme and your unique swapping light/dark mechanic is really refreshing. The audio is well done, too. I just wish the visuals were on par with the rest of the game. Would like to see a more graphically advanced post-compo version! Great work!

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-08-27T03:13:00

Try the mirror link.

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-08-27T03:37:00

Also, the game will crash if you alt+tab or remove focus from the game window. We're working on a fix as well as a fix for the looping death glitch.

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-08-27T04:14:00

You may need the XNA Framework. We're fixing a few game breaking issues, so that might be your problem.

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-08-27T10:31:00

OK, this latest version should be stable. Gamepad support added and the looping death glitch has been fixed. We're gonna take a break then get to work on the post-compo version!

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-08-28T00:33:00

Other than adding a countdown timer on the screen, I don't see how we could have possibly made the theme more noticeable than it already is. It's hard not to notice that the graphics, music, abilities, strategy, and enemies change every 10 seconds. Rather than making a 'complete this level in 10 seconds' kind of game, we went with a longer experience that requires you to either re-evaluate the situation every 10 seconds or plan ahead for the next 10 seconds. And maybe the genre isn't original, but I feel as though the elemental affinities and constantly shifting and uncontrollable powers are original ideas that put a unique spin on the genre itself. We didn't set out to reinvent the wheel, but we did want to make it roll a bit differently.

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-08-29T17:34:00

Just saw the video(ditto), and it is awesome! :D Thanks a ton for taking the time to make it, really flattering! :D Also I don't know why you only seem to get water enemies, is this the case for any other players? The enemies should get the element of the season they spawn in.. Thanks again caranha! <3

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-08-30T16:21:00

OK, the random glitch where the wrong enemies were spawning should be fixed. Something went wrong when fixing a previous game breaking bug. The music is still out of sync, but at least the other more serious errors have been fixed. The game should now be playing and should be working for you as it did for us.

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-08-30T16:21:00

*should now be playable

EcoStar vs Aeronox by DreamTeam 2013-09-02T07:48:00

sPOCkEr2: Yeah, the crashes are a sad effect of pumping out so much code in 3 days that started to create problems in the last few hours of the jam. :(
jomomomo: No, sorry, it's made with XNA which is pretty much just for desktop apps.
mortus: Balancing the waves was really hard and made in the last hour of the compo.. Also, the "random" charge attack you mention is determined by the season in which you start charging. Start charging in the spring gives water, summer gives fire, etc.

Finally the game feels pretty easy to us who made it, since hey, we played it a couple 100 times during 3 intense days, sorry 'bout that : P
//Ditto

Legend of Epikouros by Erhune 2013-09-01T23:00:00

Wow. Amazing concept. It sucked having to watch a bunch of people make the same mistakes over and over (some kind of social experiment, maybe) but the idea was really mind blowing. It was kind of over before I got a turn, but it was still awesome to influence this story in some way. The song was very soothing although the sound effects were a bit harsh and really cut through the mood set by the situation and the music. Great innovation and approach to the theme!

10 Second Army by Literal Games 2013-09-01T15:51:00

Lots of content packed into this little game! The implementation of theme is a bit weak, but it's a fun game with solid graphics and a nice sense of progression.

Antarctic Glitch by Beavl 2013-08-27T19:49:00

The intro sequence has some really great artwork, and the characters in-game are interesting. The idea is really cool, and I like how random the transformations are. Good work! - SB

The Duellists by jay griffin 2013-09-01T22:32:00

I totally said, "YES!" when I shot the hat off. Great work! I love being able to cheat. Lots of little fun things to find. Graphics are pleasing and the theme is represented well. Good work all around!

Campfire by BloodJohn 2013-08-27T19:13:00

This poor, poor man! His life is a constant battle against time. Great story/comic to get the player interested about the situation, but the gameplay is a bit unforgiving. An innovative idea/premise!

SuperSleepTime by sjk 2013-09-13T01:59:00

FREEZE PUNCH!!!!

I won. I killed like 90 Blutos. :)

Origami Wings by team_cow 2013-09-12T21:07:00

HUUUUGE world with smooth controls, great audio, and a pleasing aesthetic. I was able to make it to 30 after a few tries, but I got lost. It would be nice to have some kind of speed boost every 10 rings that you could initiate. I ran out of time within inches of rings a few times. :(

GREAT ENTRY!

Antipodist by Zap 2013-09-03T20:21:00

LOL !!!
What a great idea for the theme. Not as easy as I thought it would be, but it has a really awesome visual style. Good job on the innovation! Great models / animation / physics!

Proletarian Ninja X by deepnight 2013-08-27T20:04:00

Surprisingly difficult, and it really turns into a sort of challenge against yourself to remain focused and calm after repeated failures. Great concept, nice interpretation of theme, and really innovative take on stealth games.

Grind by headchant 2013-09-12T21:14:00

Very difficult but I will try out your post-compo version to see the differences. You have a pretty good start with the compo entry. Great intro, solid old-school visuals, and an interesting mechanic. Good work!

Anachroma by vandriver 2013-09-13T02:09:00

SO AWESOME! This is easily the most innovative take on the theme thus far. Huge challenge and a really unique boss mechanic. Vandriver delivers yet again!

GO - NO GO! by nSun 2013-09-01T18:03:00

HILARIOUS! I finally got into space after 5 aborts. Very innovative approach to the theme, and it sucks that you couldn't get audio into the compo entry.

Thorvald by FunByJohn 2013-08-27T19:02:00

The way the game moves and sounds is incredibly pleasing. The music is great and the graphical style is very lively and fun. The 10 second pickup and puzzle mechanics are simple yet effective! Good job! - SB

Dark Interval by alexandervrs 2013-09-13T01:46:00

LOVE the style of the incoming horror. It gives you a VERY serious sense of urgency and panic when things start to get louder. GREAT job on the mood. Also, thanks for gamepad support! Made the game much more fun for me! Great work!

Mr. Buttons is pure evil(Mr. buttons cruel plan) by NoiseGL 2013-09-01T19:35:00

Quite confusing at first, but I was able to finish it. Rough around the edges but you have a decent idea in place. Congrats on submitting a working game for the compo!

The only one by JaJ 2013-09-03T18:12:00

EXCELLENT mood and great use of theme. Very refreshing to see this kind of narrative and emotion wrapped up into such a small and 'quick' game. The music was really fitting, and the graphics had a sort of solemn loneliness that really fit the story. I ended up getting a glitch that allowed me to walk around without a time limit, but this was after I was already to the point of having to find Daisy. Great entry!

Low Battery by RHY3756547 2013-08-27T19:57:00

At first, I tried to play it with some kind of strategy, but it's obvious that the only way to do it is to jump as fast as possible and fire rockets like mad. It leads to a very frantic and action-packed quest to beat the clock. Some of these levels are designed really well to where you will only have a few moments to spare. I like the particle effects but I would personally prefer there to be less. Oh, and the messages are hilarious! -SB
