LD23 — Tiny World

Soul Searchin' by MaximSchoemaker 2012-04-25T15:23:00

WOW, what an awesome game! Clever interpretation of the theme and really well executed! Brilliant level design, and the ending was a really nice touch. A winner is you! :D

Tiny Visitor by 01010111 2012-04-28T13:24:00

Really nice music, some of the graphics and animations could do with some polish though. Killing enemies was a little finicky in my opinion, sometimes I got hurt even if I jumped on their heads, and sometimes I managed to kill them even though I hit them from the side, at least, that's the impression I got. Maybe try making the main character jump higher or make the enemies smaller and the hitboxes a bit larger than pixel perfect.
Really impressive work for 48 hours, though! Could have some potential should you choose to expand upon it. :)

Immunity by Waffenwars 2012-04-27T21:42:00

I like thre Tron-esque art style! However, the gameplay is a little too hard for my tastes though. The destruction spreading seems a little too harsh, especially at the very beginning of the game. Maybe add weaker enemies in the beginning which doesn't make as much damage?

Greed Wars by IgnatusZuk 2012-04-24T17:52:00

What a cool concept, it certainly has great potential should you decide to expand it. Nice work!

The Tiny Gryphalope by bytegrove 2012-04-23T23:05:00

Wow, thanks for all the feedback! I'll polish it up a bit and release an update! :D

The Tiny Gryphalope by bytegrove 2012-05-06T01:32:00

Thanks again for all your feedback! :D I've made an updated version for you to try(if you've already rated the original). I've sped up the movement, made the level a little brighter, added weapon models, and I also made a simple mini-boss, to name a few.

Dude, where's my planet by Zamando 2012-04-28T10:11:00

Lovely art style and great music, they both reminded me a little of the game Rock of Ages. Got some pretty annoying framerate issues on the level with the monster. Also, you might want to add some instructions in the beginning on how the planet hopping works.

Pieces by john_conder9 2012-04-24T18:51:00

Cute art style and cool music, the camera auto adjusted too slow though, is there a way to control it manually?

stack::tracer() by nihilocrat 2012-05-07T21:22:00

A promising little puzzle game. You should definitely expand upon this concept. Nice work! :)

These are your Friends by Farfin 2012-05-07T21:40:00

Beautiful art style and I love the idea. However, It was a little too hard to pick things up, imo.

A Super Mario Summary by johanp 2012-04-27T11:15:00

Jisses! :) You really managed to create a lot of content, really impressive! I like that you interpreted the game's characters in your own way as well. However, the Bowser and Koopa sprites didn't feel as polished as the Mario and Goomba sprites, imo. I missed some nice catchy tunes on the levels as well. Other than that, extremely nice work! :D

Buggy, Tank and Missile Launcher!!! by Vic 2012-04-25T16:54:00

Really nice game, the only thing that annoyed me was that I couldn't rotate the view with a/d or left/right keys. Other than that, great work, awesome graphics, it felt really polished!

Hummy's Hunger by GFM 2012-05-12T12:30:00

Cute game, not much of a challenge though. The ramblings about yummies from the main character reminded me of Quina from final fantasy 9. :P

Tiny Wizard by kebabskal 2012-05-07T21:09:00

Very fun and polished game, I was not fond of the controls though. I found it a little finicky to throw bombs and switch hats, I got the hang of it eventually, but I had preferred using buttons closer to wasd, like q & e. Other than that, I really enjoyed it, great work!

LD24 — Evolution

MiniEvolution by Smirnov48 2012-08-30T10:35:00

Cellular simulations like these are always fun! Nice work! Great that there are a lot of different actions as well. However, one time when I had managed to fill the entire screen with little green cells, the enemy cell count never dropped below 224, even though I could not see a single one, and after a while the actions moved so fast that they wouldn't register mouse clicks.

Tiny Evolution Adventure by AdventureIslands 2012-08-27T12:52:00

Extremely impressive! You've gotten a lot of work done, added plenty of details, and everything flows smoothly. The characters and tiles are beautifully drawn and the animations are simple but effective. And separate sound tracks for each stage? O.o *Thumbs up*

I've got some small annoyances though: ;)
-Having to start all over on a stage is pretty annoying in a collecting-game, adding some checkpoints or just losing some, and not all, of your collected food might be an idea.
-The first stage is a lot harder than the others, imo. Maybe consider reducing the amount of enemies there?
-The collision detection for the eating is a little finicky, it feels like the collision box is too small.
-The parallax effect on the 3rd stage is a little overdone, it makes me dizzy. :P
-As others have mentioned; a progress bar on how far you have left until you evolve would be super!

Awesome game! :D

Primordial Soup by bytegrove 2012-08-27T14:42:00

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm quite aware of the many flaws, I got so many bugs the first day that I wasn't able to implement nearly as much as I'd hoped. I had to rewrite the building system several times, until I at least had something that worked somewhat well.

The idea to make the rooms continuous is a great one, that would probably improve the flow a lot!

When I began making the game, all building parts consisted of only different coloured blocks(kinda like lego), and I made a system where the closest connectors of two blocks attached to each other. When I later made organic building blocks instead, the game lost some of its building logic, hence why it might feel like the parts doesn't attach where they should. With the more rounded parts, a simple raycast and a direct attachment on the hit point would make a lot more sense.

The building system was a source of constant headache from day one, I had a lot of issues with colliders and triggers in unity, and had to rewrite the system several times until I had something that at least worked half of the time.

Well, I hope I learnt something. xD
Gotta save some of the ramblings for the post mortem. ;)
Also, timelapse coming soon!

Cubevo by NostraDamon 2012-08-27T12:21:00

I like that there actually are ways to deduce which blocks will yield more EvoGems, at first I thought it was just guesswork. You could probably make a pretty strategic-heavy game out of this if you're going to keep working on it. Clicking on numbered blocks actually reminded me a little of minesweeper. My only complaints really are the abundance of tight spaces, I tended to get stuck quite a lot, some music would've been nice as well. Other than that; great work! :)

Oculus Battalion by Maxium 2012-08-30T10:49:00

Heh, nice! It reminds me a little of a game I made for the 7dfps.

I liked the billboard art style and the green/orange colour scheme, simple but stylish and effective. The laser gun felt pretty useless compared to the capturing net, and having to use the number keys for monster summoning felt a little weird as well.

As the game is pretty fast-paced and you probably want to summon all the monsters more or less at the same time(right?), maybe it would suffice to just make the spawning queue-based and having just one key that dequeues a monster?

Badass by Sos 2012-08-27T13:20:00

Your games tend to brighten the day. xD
Awesome characters, cut-scenes and music.
I haven't really gotten the hang of a solid strategy yet though, it often feels like there is no resistance at all from the hipsters, but sometimes they surround me and I get stuck in an eternally looping hurt-animation(can't even jump). I'll just have to practice on how to be more of a badass I guess. :P

History of the black pixels by kidanger 2012-08-27T13:24:00

Yeah an installer or instructions on how to get the game running would be great! As far as I can tell from the screenshots it has a great art style. :)

History of the black pixels by kidanger 2012-08-27T16:18:00

Neat concept, the controls and physics are a little wonky though, making it a tad too hard. On one stage all the enemies gathered underneath the spawn portal and jumped around so I died instantly every time I spawned. :P
And as I wrote before; awesome art style! Nice work!

Advancer by Knighty 2012-08-30T10:24:00

Nice work, I love your interpretation of the theme! The sprites in the final evolution stage are really well done. I like that you're able to explore new areas as the stage evolve, really neat! The music got a little repetitive though. One thing that confused me in the beginning was that the checkpoints weren't visible in the first stage, so when I died in the second stage I didn't know where I had ended up. Not really a big deal since the world is so small though.

Boxy the Boxcat in Evolution Escapades by matthias_zarzecki 2012-08-30T11:04:00

Cute little game, nice music and pretty good humour as well! An early speed upgrade for my cat would've been nice as he was a little sluggish. Caterpillar tracks followed by a rocket engine perhaps? ;)

Evolution VS 1000 kittens by Citiral 2012-08-27T12:01:00

I think the game starts out a little too slow, but rapidly becomes overwhelming. It's not as much fun when it takes so much dna to upgrade your dino, it feels like you're progressing much slower than the kittens. Maybe add intermediate upgrade stages, and make the current ones more powerful? I also didn't get what implications the reproduce/generations functionality had? It felt more like a way to just escape a hairy situation. It was also a little hard to reach the P-button while playing.
I liked the upgrade menu, nice with tech trees. The tune was pretty catchy, nice work!

Evoland by ncannasse 2012-08-27T19:38:00

What a clever interpretation! :) Nice work!

LD26 — Minimalism

Love Connection by Jon Reid 2013-04-29T19:51:00

Simple concept but really nice implementation. Really polished and fluent. The animations, effects and sounds gives a sense of accomplishment when you've cleared a level. I'm not too fond of the gameplay concept itself though and although it gets a little more intuitive later on, I felt that it starts off too slow and quickly becomes a little repetitive, thus I didn't feel impelled enough to play through it all. Maybe consider adding more possibilities for failure other than getting stuck? I like the clean art style and with some more gameplay elements and more sense of progression between the levels this could be a hit, perfect for tablets or phones!

Gimme back my keys by pinkmonkeyhead 2013-04-30T18:01:00

Cool idea, nice music and clean design. Pretty challenging as well. Nice work!

Astral Offset by bytegrove 2013-04-30T16:19:00

@mortus:
The astral enemies that appear from the sky can't be killed directly with the sword, you must kill them in a different way.

Astral Offset by bytegrove 2013-05-02T10:34:00

I'm glad to see that you liked the concept! Thanks for the great feedback! Thanks for the bug reports as well, I will add them to the list! :)

Angry Viking vs Minimalist Hipsters by reverso13 2013-05-01T13:49:00

Hahaha, awesome! The movement felt a little weird though imo, maybe try turning up the acceleration, air resistance and friction? Otherwise a fun and cheeky game, nice use of the theme!

Super Neo Tektropolis by vidarn 2013-05-01T13:54:00

I had a hard time playing this. I could not move to the right for some reason, and as others have mentioned, the keyboard layout felt weird as well. The art style is really nice though, and I like the fact that the whole face(or lack thereof) of the character emits the laser beam.

Russian Blob by alcazar 2013-05-02T14:27:00

The split and group mechanic works very well, and I'm very impressed with the variety of puzzles you managed to come up with using it. Crazy! Really cool that you developed for the GBA, I really wished I had a flash card so I could've played it as it was intended. One thing that was a little frustrating was that the check points felt a little irregular. It was frustrating when you had to redo an old puzzle several times even though you died at one further ahead. Nice graphics and awesome sound effects and music, great job!

Cross by AstroEngiSci 2013-04-30T16:48:00

Cool game, nice dialogues! I agree with the mouse look being a little too fast, I'd also appreciate if it could be locked to the center while playing as left click is used for interaction. I think I encountered a bug when I was supposed(?) to follow blue, but instead I went back and clicked on green. I respawned somewhere, but beneath the level, and just fell into nothingness.
Cool events, jumped a little when "it went dark". Nice atmosphere for a minimalistic art style.

simpLify by SonnyBone 2013-04-30T17:22:00

(Warning, possible spoilers) Really nice atmosphere in this game, with the another world/out of this world-like background, the cool little alien dude and the harmonic humming and singing of the machines, beautiful. Sadly, I also had a lot of trouble with the second puzzle. I really didn't get the wiring and I couldn't figure out what machines made the "right" sounds; I thought they all sounded pretty good. :P After having read some comments here, I went back and tried some more combinations and finally got it right. Well the machines sounded a lot better after that, I'll admit. Really great music in this game, I'm a little sad that I didn't get the second puzzle, but great ending! Awesome work! :D

Damn invaders by dvdking 2013-04-29T19:27:00

Wow, really nice work, love the intro! :) I really liked how the gameplay changed based on your size, like how the challenge while small was navigating, while when large you had to plan further ahead of where to move as you were slower. It was fun to be able to lob your bullets while large. The boss on level2 was weird though, I was too large when I arrived, so I couldn't avoid the projectiles, and as they it shot so many at once I shrunk and died almost directly. I guess it forces the player to plan ahead on the perfect size for the boss fight while playing the level. This could be a good thing, but it was annoying in my personal opinion.
Nice clean graphics that go well with the theme, and fitting sound effects, nice work! :)

MiniCave by aare 2013-05-01T14:14:00

Cool idea having the behaviour change based on angle, really cool! The difficulty was a little to high for me though, and having to wait while the score screen faded away became frustrating as I died a lot. :P But the concept is really nice, thumbs up!

Pixemalism by boddiul 2013-04-30T19:08:00

Really neat puzzle design. It represents the theme pretty well in my opinion. The controls felt a little sluggishsometimes though and I once managed to get stuck in a white block at the first level with a switch-door.

Balls! by pknowles 2013-04-30T17:27:00

I had a hard time figuring out the UI, it felt very cluttered. I liked the idea of setting the different ratios, if that's what was intended, I'm not sure. I also believe som balancing and feedback from your actions could benefit this game, as the game ran pretty well on its own.

Cimi Mal by Jesper Oskarsson 2013-04-29T16:18:00

Slick puzzle game! It felt really polished and I really like the dynamic world, and I liked that you used the core mechanics for several different kinds of puzzles. The moody lighting creates a somewhat claustrophobic atmosphere, which reminds me a little of Portal. :) Great sound effects and I appreciated the tutorial! The music was a little repetitive though, and could become quite annoying when trying to solve a puzzle. The learning curve might be too steep as well? I got stuck on the second level after having reached the second light.
All in all, cool game and concept, really nice atmosphere! :D

Dehumanizer by UltimateWalrus 2013-05-02T14:35:00

Really clever interpretation of the theme! Cool idea having the enemies become a part of the terrain as they died. Fluent controls and nice choice of colours, nice work!

Potato Dungeon by _Rilem 2013-04-30T18:31:00

Super slick art style and combat mechanics! I appreciated all the special effects put into this one, really made it feel like the sword hits had "impact". Pard is awesome! The game felt a little too long though, especially as there are not much changing between the levels, by the time I came to the boss I became a little frustrated it just spawned more enemies and that the sequence restarted everytime I died. Just having him shoot projectiles that you could reflect or something or something different than the already utilised enemies had been nice. Other than that, the game felt really polished, Pard is awesome and so is the music. Really nice work, would love to see this made into a full fledged game! :D

Mondrian Madness by ThatOtherPerson 2013-05-01T14:33:00

Best Mondrian entry I've seen so far! The "flip effect" was really neat and I think it would've been interesting if you'd utilised it in the gameplay a bit more, like for example make it possible to eat only cards that are "flipping away" from you, especially as the level system felt a bit out of place.
Really nice work for being your first game! Congrats! :D

Somsnosa by Mase 2013-04-30T19:49:00

I love the art style, I'm such a sucker for surrealism(now why couldn't that have been the theme?). The music is very fitting, and together with the cool creatures I got the same kind of feeling as I got playing Earthbound, awesome! The controls are a little annoying though, especially since a lot of your world is not grid based, whereas the movement is. Looking forward to seeing more work from you!

Minimal Ammo by T800 2013-05-02T13:58:00

Funny game with a clever use of the theme! Nice, cute graphics . My only complaint is that it didn't feel like the difficulty increased as you played. The ammo guy is awesome! :)

Balls! by Codexus 2013-05-02T12:49:00

Really ambitious for a one man entry, the lighting looks crazy good! The "level cleared"-effect is really nicely done and very well synced to the sound effect, giving it a nice impact. Crazy to see you create a character sculpt from scratch for this entry, gutsy! Her clothing looks really cool, and you applied a really nice choice of colours that went well with the environment. Her animation felt a little awkward though. I like the look and the mood(awesome music) of the game overall, reminded me of a mix of games such as populous, zeno clash, papo & yo and nights. I felt the core gameplay mechanic a bit lacking, I didn't really find the ball rolling mechanic that fun. I liked however how you could climb up on the ball and roll it, I'd liked to see that mechanic refined, with maybe a locking system when you jumped up on it. If I remember correctly, super mario galaxy had some really neat ball-rolling levels, maybe something to look into?
So, to conclude this wall of text :), really nice work on the graphics and sounds, great mood! The gameplay is promising but could do with some tweaking. Awesome work!

Minimalismizer by Diamonde 2013-04-29T16:07:00

Cool game with a neat style and feeling to it! The block mechanic felt well utilized and well combined with the platforming. The graphical style is great, the clouds felt really fluffy! :D However, I felt that the light source on the player, which felt cool at first, became a little annoying to look at after a while. I had some trouble with the collision as well, falling through the floor on several occasions. Also you might want to shorten the foot step sound. Anyway, cool idea and neatly implemented, the tutorial creatures are adorable. :)

BONSAI by NeuronFire 2013-04-30T17:03:00

Always nice with procedural generation. The gameplay is pretty lacking though, and the surrounding text kept getting selected when I clicked on the foliage, which was pretty annoying. Maybe you could expand upon the idea by adding upgradeable tools or something like that?

Between the lines by martijn 2013-04-30T18:43:00

Cool interpretation of the theme, but you used music from incompetech.com (as mentioned in the credits). Isn't that against the rules? :/

Bayou by paulmcgg 2013-05-02T14:08:00

Very beautiful and stylistic game. The broad brush strokes reminds me a little of okami. The game is very slow paced, but the ending makes it worth it in my opinion. Very good ending, very spiritiual, I don't want to spoil anything, but it really puts the hunt into perspective and makes you think of what it might symbolize. You're gonna get lots of stars! :)

hru by gilmore606 2013-04-30T21:22:00

"hru" - the sound I made every time I fell down. But I kept going, I needed that delicious reward so bad! And boy, was it worth it! Such a delicious reward indeed. Omnomnom!
Really atmospheric game with a great art style that tricks you into believing it will be a relaxing experience. :D

raveGRID by sick 2013-04-29T19:11:00

The graphics looks really good, they felt very fluent. I like the atmosphere, felt a little like participating in laser tag or like some kind of weird nightclub. :D
However, I could not get the hang of the gameplay at all. The controls felt pretty sluggish, and the choice of action buttons felt poor, I would rather prefer having them on the right side so I could utilise both hands. Also, maybe try to add more visual/audio feedback when approaching/targeting or when enemies spot you. The corridors felt a little tight as well, maybe add some more variance to them?
The setting and atmosphere is top notch though, nice work!

Ming Imah Lism the Wizard ! by Gustera 2013-04-30T18:58:00

Haha, great tutorial! The mana/concentration mechanic was neat. Cool game!

Steve Can't Zen by DaanVanYperen 2013-05-01T13:37:00

Poor Steve.
One of the best interpretations of the theme I've seen so far. Nice work! :)

Cube Dinosaurs? by PyroSneak 2013-04-29T20:01:00

Cute characters! I always appreciate a game involving dinosaurs. Love the big grin on the main character. :D
The lighthearted tutorial instructions were a nice touch.
The controls and physics felt pretty wonky though. Maybe try to speed up the movement or acceleration of the main character? I also didn't really get if I could jump on top of the helmet dudes as sometimes I took damage when landing on their heads, and sometimes I didn't. I also think I found a bug where I managed to respawn inside the big dinosaur after falling off the map. The music was a little repetitive and could use some further work.
Other than those issues, great work for your first entry! Keep making games with cool characters! :)

the pretentious apple by Bluebutton 2013-04-30T18:48:00

Pretty game, with clean visuals and nice music, but I think this should have been entered in the jam instead seeing as it was made by more than one person?

Towers of Rage by robotality 2013-04-30T17:53:00

Cutest blood effects I've ever seen! :D Very nice art style and execution, I really like the fighting mechanic. My only complaints are that the main character moved a little too slow imo, and the boss guy was too easy to kill. Other than that, awesome game, really fun!

ShrunkenAdventures by FuzzyWuzzie 2013-05-02T13:03:00

Cute game! Nice controls, they felt very solid. The double jump felt very satisfying, as did the wall jump! :D I wish there were some more sound effects and some music as the "land-on-ground" sound quickly became quite annoying. Gutsy move to scrap your first game in the middle of the compo, felt like you managed to accomplish a great deal anyway. Nice work!

A Bird's Love by omaromeir 2013-05-02T13:46:00

Cute game! So, I of course played by just holding down space(horrible me). But maybe instead of even allowing that, why not add barriers that you only hit when you're big? Then the player has to actually use the mechanics you implemented.

HAX by Andrewves 2013-05-02T14:46:00

Neat idea, I couldn't get the "dash" ability to work though. :/ Some music and sound effects would've been nice. I liked that it became harder the further you traveled.

Budget Squad by deepnight 2013-05-01T13:26:00

High quality entry as always, top-notch graphics, and a big plus for the cut scene! The game felt very polished and the steering felt good, I liked that you could jump out of the water. However, switching back and forth between the submarines made the game a little too slow paced imo, one idea might be to assign one submarine to wasd and the other to the arrow keys. Just a thought. I think the game fit the theme pretty well with the budget-cut backstory, although I admit that it might feel a little shoehorned in. :P I do enjoy seeing games that try to approach the theme in gameplay and not just visual style though. Nice work! :)

Dream Fishing by Sophie Houlden 2013-04-30T19:28:00

Really soothing game, loved the atmosphere, the tunes when you walked was a really nice touch. I was really surprised at what happened when you caught a fish, really cool! :) I would've liked to see the fishing mechanics expanded upon though, maybe making it possible to scare the fish away if you walked too fast or splashed around in the water too much. The game fit the theme really well, nice work!

Please Ignore The Dancing Llama by Zed 2013-04-30T19:18:00

I want to dance with the llama!!!
Really fun little wario ware-ish game, enjoyed the cut scenes and the awesome music!

Minimalism by StabAlarash 2013-04-30T17:40:00

Nice game, clean visuals and awesome music! I first didn't understand how the shooting worked, then I realized that it doesn't appear to shoot(just make a sound) if you haven't moved your mouse. For some reason I went directly to shooting before aiming. Thus I learned something about myself today. :I

I also found a tiny bug in the main menu: you can't go back to start with w after having selected quit(up arrow works though).
Neat idea with the player being the key to the doors! Nice work! :)

Screaming Cubes by Shigor 2013-04-30T16:54:00

Wow, a lot of stuff in there for being made in 48 hours, nice work! Crazy AI, wanting to headbutt you all the time. :P The game felt a little too dark imo, and some visual feedback on when your bullets hit and damaged the enemies would have been nice. The upgrade system was really neat! :)

The Migration by semi 2013-05-02T13:14:00

Very interesting game, the behaviour and movement of the fish felt quite realistic! The music was really nice as well, but the sound effects didn't fit at all, the game could've been quite relaxing if it weren't for them. Pretty graphics! Nice main menu, it reminded me a little of the one in Populous the beginning, very cool!
All in all, cool game, if you add some more fitting sound effects(that doesn't sound like punching :P),I think this game could be really atmospheric and relaxing to play!

# by Kitch 2013-05-02T13:31:00

Wow, what a beautiful game, the sound effects coming together making beautiful music! Love it! A really nice use of the theme together with music creates a really solid entry. I'm not the biggest fan of music games, but this was something different. My only gripe was that it was hard to see what layers the powerups were in, they were a little confusing. The movement of the player could do with some acceleration as well, instead of instant velocity. Would love to see you continue on this!

Shoot (AAA_FPS_GOTY) by quill18 2013-05-01T14:27:00

Really impressive work for 48 hours! The gray graphics were a little boring, I think you could've tweaked them a little for a pretty cool Tron-esque style. The voiceovers were a really nice touch! Nice work!

LD27 — 10 Seconds

10 seconds Are An Eternity by Larzan 2013-08-29T00:24:00

I love the idea, but I didn't really get how it was implemented in the game. Visualising the speed of time in some way other than a timer would be nice.
Nice art style, I love how the planets are full of orange skyscrapers! :)

Duke Dashington by AdventureIslands 2013-08-26T23:05:00

Sweet game and cute ending.
The game reminded me a little of the old WarioLand games for
Gameboy! You really managed to squeeze in a lot of content in this one. Solid levels and great looking animations and graphics. Lots of stars to you! :)

Apotheosis by bytegrove 2013-08-26T14:07:00

Thanks for the feedback!
I've added the alternative control methods to the info,
and the key mappings can be changed in the launcher as well.
I agree that the default keys may not be to everyones liking, I might experiment with them and see if I can come up with something better. All suggestions are greatly appreciated! :)
The game can be played with an XBox360 controller as well.

Apotheosis by bytegrove 2013-08-27T11:21:00

Thanks for all the feedback, I've added a postcompo version for those who are interested(see links at top). It fixes the mouse cursor so it's locked. It also adds the ability to shoot with the arrow keys as well and changes the default alternative rewind button to Q. It also has some gamepad input tweaks. I've also tried to fix the dodgy laser collision. And as a bonus I added four different difficulty levels.

Thanks again for all the great feedback! :D

Apotheosis by bytegrove 2013-08-27T12:21:00

@Larzan:
If I understood your question correctly: You can rewind the game(for up to 10 seconds). Every time you'll be able to play in a different way than you did before. Your old timeline will still be active though, which means that your "old self" will kill the same enemies again. This gives you the opportunity to kill other enemies for example.
The artifact however does not adhere to the rules of time and space in the same way. :P It will levitate upwards as you reverse the time and fall down slowly when the time is advancing. It rises faster than it falls, so that's why you can make it reach the vortex, which makes you win the game.

Apotheosis by bytegrove 2013-08-27T14:05:00

@urth:
Hi, what do you mean with depth? Gameplay or graphics? :)
Thanks for the mac info(I updated the postcompo version), I sadly have no way to run the builds on mac.

Apotheosis by bytegrove 2013-08-27T17:52:00

@Vectorious:
When you mention that it doesn't feel right, are you referring to the aiming mechanic or more the flow of the game or maybe the structure of the level?

@Everyone:
Thanks yet again for all the feedback. Very interesting insights so far, in my opinion. ^^

Apotheosis by bytegrove 2013-08-27T22:36:00

@AdventureIslands:
Hehe, yeah it's possible to get low 1-2 second highscores at the moment. ;)

Apotheosis by bytegrove 2013-08-29T10:30:00

Wow, even more great constructive feedback(art and gameplay)! Thank you all! :)

Apotheosis by bytegrove 2013-09-01T12:32:00

Updated the postcompo version based on feedback. :)
Laser reload speed is now affected by rewind cooldown and fire-time(when there's no rewind cooldown). Player can now be "damaged" in the sense that you're given a penalty rewind cooldown when touching an enemy. Enemy spawning is no longer recorded, ie. spawning can occur differently if time has been rewinded. Enemy existence is still recorded though, so an enemy that existed will always exist.

Checkpoint by barcode 2013-08-29T00:40:00

Interesting concept, felt like the start of some kind of parkour game. The implementation is a little lacking in my opinion however. The camera went behind walls a little to often, obstructing the view, and the mouse cursor was always visible. Some elements were rendered always on top which felt confusing.
But you managed to build up a pretty cool and relaxing atmosphere, it felt like I was running in a city by the water, at night. :)

Legend of Troll by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2013-08-27T14:15:00

Sweet graphics and nice music. The gameplay reminded me a little of Lost Vikings.
Even though it was short the one puzzle was pretty clever, and not immediatley obvious. And you even managed to create a couple of cutscenes, awesome!
Those poor trolls though... :P

The Saddest Landscape by BradleySmith 2013-08-27T00:32:00

You're on to something here, I'd love to see this fleshed out. :)
It's like the darker side of the world of Wall-E or something.
The music is superb, really good. When I drove past the dead tree it gave me chills. Good call on letting the music continue to play after the game ends.
Nice interpretation of the theme.
Please continue working on this! :)

TIME SHIFTER by Split82 2013-08-26T22:39:00

Nice and clean graphics, and an interesting use of the theme. Awesome work! :)

xhon by savethejets1 2013-08-30T00:06:00

Interesting little game. You took a simple concept of checkpoints and made it interesting. Nice element swapping as well. The platforming felt a bit off though. The jumping was pretty unresponsive and parts of the levels felt kinda cramped. I digged most tunes but one of them was a little monotonous(the second or third tune I think).
Impressive amount of levels, really nice!
Solid entry all in all!

Scraith by lambomang 2013-08-29T00:08:00

What a cool idea! And what a creepy game, I was not prepared for that. o.O
Seeing the scraith lurk just outside my field of vision while I'm stuck in place is super creepy.
Nice work, fitting sound effects. *brr*

MatchiMatchi by Jesper Oskarsson 2013-08-29T01:34:00

You set out to make a polished game, and I think you succeeded! It play very nice on a touchscreen device. Smooth animations and nice patterns. Some of the colour schemes might have a little too stark a contrast though.
The game makes me want to open wrapped presents. Nice work! :)

Offspring by scriptorum 2013-08-26T22:06:00

Interesting little god sim. Cool backstory!
I jumped in to the game without reading the spoiler section, and some actions felt a little random(especially the kill action for some animals), maybe displaying the action(like next to the tile status) that will be used on a tile, on mouse hover might help?
Overall a nice game, it was interesting how the humans and their cities behaved(and the speed at which they multiplied, lol).

Dust in the Candy Megaverse by Xgor 2013-08-26T22:28:00

Heh, what a cute and odd little game. :) Really cool that you implemented spherical worlds, it makes the game a little more challenging. I'm not so fond of the stripes and the colour scheme used though. I got nauseous pretty quick. Maybe consider using softer pastel colours and smoother transitions between them?
Nice work on the music though! And sweet that you added voice overs.

10 Floors by Anshul Goyal 2013-08-29T00:33:00

Neat game, I like patterns on the floors. The collision felt a little weird though, sometimes I got stuck on the floor.

I'm not sure how to rate this game as you've written that you didn't use your own sounds. I'll leave audio rating blank for now, please make it clear if you did create some of the sound assets.

Small fish by Diamonde 2013-08-29T01:26:00

It was impressive to see just how much you managed to implement in the second day! It's a very relaxing game with smooth animations and pretty graphics. It might be a little hard to know where to look at first, maybe some small hint could be added for the treasures? Nice work! :)

10 seconds of hope by tobbez 2013-08-26T22:46:00

Bullet hell! xD
I didn't manage to beat it, sadly. Maybe add an option to choose difficulty level? Nice backgrounds, are they procedurally generated?

Hallucivian by Hypnohustla 2013-08-29T01:18:00

I love your art style! Very fresh colour scheme, and so many wobbly bits! :P Pretty neat interpretation of the theme, and just the right amount of frustrating. I did have the collision bug out on me once. When I was very close to the ground, the egg was laid inside the ground, and fell down. Luckily it got stuck inside the bulb below, so I still cleared the level.

10 Seconds Gunner by sittaman 2013-08-29T00:43:00

Solid game, nice twist on classic asteroids! Sweet robot voice! :)

Cyanocide by nicotuason 2013-08-26T22:56:00

Oh glob it's pretty! The controls are really smooth and they work really well! I'd love to see this game on a touchscreen device.
Some extrapolation from the theme, but nothing major imo.
Pretty sneaky of you to recommend a playlist though, hehe, ah whatever. :P
Cool game, nice work!

MRW by Kuupu 2013-08-29T00:03:00

Haha, what a cool idea! I love the speed mode. Jumping mode could use some polish though, sometimes he didn't respond to jump. You should make up a crazy backstory for the character that tries to justify why he's behaving so oddly, changing between different states of mind constantly. :P
Awesome robot voice!
Nice work!

Film Leader by PixelArtM 2013-08-26T22:15:00

As have already been mentioned, the floaty physics are a bit frustrating. But I also think that they add an interesting aspect to an otherwise simple challenge.
Cool little game, I love the silent film frames between the levels, nice work!

Step Out by bitserum 2013-08-29T01:03:00

It's a very nice idea and interpretation of the theme. Very pretty art style(reminds me a little of Lost Winds). It's a very atmospheric game. The puzzles are built too much around repetition and having to travel back and forth a lot. That in itself wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the sluggish movement. And for some reason I always kept pushing the wrong keys, making me have to re-travel in astral mode several times. So I might just be your most annoying use case scenario, but I think it's worth mentioning. :P
Nice work, beautiful game!

Withdrawal Syndrome by Supernaught 2013-08-29T00:18:00

Ow, poor guy. :P Cool idea! The platforming mechanics felt a bit off and unforgiving though, and sometimes it was hard to know what you could and couldn't jump on. Pretty graphics and really nice colour schemes. And the animations are really smooth. Nice work!

10 Seconds In 10 Seconds by Jishenaz 2013-08-26T23:43:00

The concept is pretty interesting and as mentioned before, it could do well as a multiplayer game. However, the combination of slow turning and fast acceleration makes it pretty hard to steer. It might be enough to increase the turn speed, but it could become a pretty different game then as well I guess.
Nice work, it has potential should you decide to continue working on it!

Block Breaker by Brodenino 2013-08-29T01:38:00

Super impressive for just four hours of work! The painting+breaking mechanic feels very satisfying!
The steering is a little weird, but I felt that after you had played a couple of round your brain re-calibrated to it in some way. It's a fun little game, consider to continue working on this!

#ERR@ 10 Second Glitch# by urth 2013-08-29T00:11:00

Nice interpretation of the theme, I like the backstory. :)

The Thief by N0_Named_Guy 2013-08-28T16:58:00

Pretty neat stealth game. However, I found it very hard without knowing the guards' line of sight(just having them face in the direction they're looking would help I think). It would also have been nice to have some levels designed so you could hide behind walls and the like. The countdown feature was pretty cool. I never made it past the third level sadly.

Move It In 10 Seconds by REIN1 2013-08-26T23:11:00

Nice animations and particle effects, the game has a nice polished feel to it. I had some trouble with the on-screen text though. It went outside the frame.

Frozen Braid by blubberquark 2013-08-28T23:52:00

I like the idea of a more realtimey frozen synapse-like game. And the time travel feature is really well done! Maybe consider having the timer automatically rewind to start when selecting another unused unit? Really cool idea and implementation!

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Connecting LD30 to the Real World by Will Edwards 2014-09-02T23:28:00

Cool idea! I had some trouble with the controls though, the zoom feel inverted and I think using mouse drag instead of clicking would make the movement easier. The hitbox on the pins seems a little off as well. Really cool to see a meta game here though.
For me it looked like you are super close to where I am, is that just the default or the weirdest coincidence(first pin I highlighted, haha)?
I like the brute force approach to which you implemented this!

Heart Star by AdventureIslands 2014-09-01T17:25:00

It's so cute my teeth are hurting.
Really clever little game, I would've wanted to see this on the GameBoy. That'd been cool!
The controls are a little floaty, and there's the occasional Flash framerate hiccup. Other than that, perfect! :)

Pilgrimage by Follett 2014-08-31T20:46:00

Aw, I'm not sure I'm playing this right.. I wasn't able to find any relics before I ran out of campfires. I found a tower in the desert, but overall the game felt very empty. It's quite pretty though(the grey shiny stones looks a little out of place though), and the animations and controls are really smooth.

Omnis by bytegrove 2014-08-26T10:33:00

Hi, thanks for all the nice feedback! :)
I've added additional builds. Please note(!) that I made a small update for the main menu: I fixed a GUI scaling bug in the main menu that messed up the info text and buttons, in the web build especially. Hope that's ok.

Omnis by bytegrove 2014-08-28T16:43:00

Thanks for all the feedback! For post-compo version I was thinking of implementing the potion mechanic which I never got around to in the jam submission. I was thinking of letting the player find potions which can be used to replenish hearts, OR to bribe the worshippers to quit worshipping. ^^
I'll also look into some of the combat issues mentioned.
Thanks for playing! :)

Omnis by bytegrove 2014-09-01T16:24:00

@SoulGame:
Haha, thanks! ;) I'm not sure I'm going to work long term on it, but I'm going to at least make a post compo version based on the feedback I'm getting now as well as to implement what I didn't have time for during the jam! :)

@Nooner Bear:
My goal was to have a no-kill way of completing the game(read my previous post on the bribing system). But I didn't manage to implement it on time. My goal is to implement it in a post compo version.

:)

Omnis by bytegrove 2014-09-01T17:58:00

@pusheax: Added src to description now! :)

Omnis by bytegrove 2014-09-04T18:45:00

Thanks for all the feedback! I feel a little bad for giving you all such a hard time though.. :I
Has anyone else experienced lag, and if so was it the framerate that was choppy or the pacing of the game?

Summoner by someone 2014-09-02T22:10:00

Interesting gameplay idea, I think it could be very interesting should you choose to pursuit it further.
Nice work for 12 hours, especially for what you actually coded but never used, heh. :P

I Must See You by Split82 2014-09-01T17:35:00

Nice work! I like the wooden, board game-y feeling of this entry! It felt very polished! The last level was quite tricky(the perfect amount of tricky). Really neat graphics!

The Warehouse Connection by Jesper Oskarsson 2014-08-31T22:06:00

I really like the idea of this game! Maybe the "multiplayer problem" could be somewhat solved by implementing a server list and chat (or Journey-like "pinging")? Of course, that might lessen the value of the core gameplay idea.
The warehouse is pretty atmospheric, and I would have loved to hear some more ambient background sounds/music completing the experience.
As the levels are quite vast, as they are based on exploring, I felt that I sometimes did a little too much unnecessary walking. Maybe utilising the height of the rooms more (when designing the levels) would allow for faster traversal while still retaining the exploration aspect? Super cool idea, would love to see it fleshed out and made more accessible somehow. A multiplayer game within 48 hours is super impressive btw, cool beans!

Orbit by Noah Ratcliff 2014-09-02T18:53:00

Neat idea! I would have liked to have some more visual indications of when I could reach certain planets however. I think that selecting before dragging is a little superfluous as well, just holding the mouse button over the planet might be enough. I like the clean visual design, the gradient when selecting a planet kinda breaks it, as does the level select screen, otherwise it is very neat!

Prismatic Worlds by LandoSystems 2014-09-01T15:36:00

The shadow effects and enemies are pretty cool, but I had a hard time seeing where I was going because it was so dark.

Heavenly Finger Squad by Alexandre Szybiak 2014-09-01T15:11:00

Cool and simple concept! For some reason I first thought the devils were ants. :P The game felt responsive even though the hands are a bit flimsy(in a good way!). Nice work! The ladder might be moving a little too quick?

Conflicting Landscapes by glbs 2014-08-31T21:42:00

The concept is REALLY cool, but I had too hard a time to understand what I was supposed to do (I couldn't find any artefacts?). I also sometimes got stuck in the landscape when a dimension moved towards me.

Planet on a Leash by Diamonde 2014-08-31T22:31:00

It's like space katamari! :D
The ship became a little too hard to control after a while, especially as the view was so zoomed in and the backdrop totally black (I couldn't see where I was moving). I really like the soothing tunes, they go great with the paintbrush feel of the pixel art.
Maybe add a way of pushing away the planets for a while to allow for easier movement? Or maybe allow to drop a planet off (maybe a necessity sometimes, but simultaneously becomes a punishment)? Or, one very cool possibility (perhaps?) is to utilise the momentum of the planets to your advantage (as you already is affected by it)? Like, push them to the right so they bounce back hard at you, giving you a boost to the left.
Funny interpretation of the theme!

Spejsbryggan by lightsoda 2014-09-01T15:53:00

Pretty colours and sweet music! :)
I experienced some mouse movement lag, other than that it felt like a solid entry. I began by just building bridges on the start island, I'm not sure that was meant to be possible?

Colorshift by Andrew Adams 2014-09-01T15:59:00

Really nice interpretation of the theme! The game was quite hard, but it was easy to learn. The music was really good, nice work!

Bounty of Corruption by Tom Gardiner 2014-09-02T21:25:00

Plays very similarly to Nuclear Throne, hehe. The game felt quite polished, lots of little nice effects. Nice work!

Light Year Wars by nicotuason 2014-09-01T17:05:00

Wow! This is really a favourite of mine! The minimalistic art style manages to convey space battles of a much more epic scale. I feel like I'm watching the battlements display on a large battle cruiser in deep space. The ambient sound effects really solidifies the mood. I like that you've implemented a "progress" bar at the bottom as well.
Really nice work! :)

Arktrail by DaanVanYperen 2014-09-01T17:47:00

Haha, I love the little messages! It's a pretty hard game. The graphics and build system are really nice!

Telep0rtal by acerunox 2014-09-01T14:56:00

The game is too fast for me, especially with the small screen. Maybe make it go faster and faster instead? The music is really good!

Data-Man by Hyoga-3D 2014-08-31T22:14:00

I love how fast paced it is! This is simply a very fun game with cool music! As it is such an uptempo and happy game, I'd love to see it with some more colours. The slow-motion effect was a nice touch for making it possible to avoid enemies, but as it only increased the delay between frames it could be mistaken for an fps drop. Consider making it smoother by actually slowing everything down, not just increasing frametime.
Nice work, this game put me in a good mood! :D

Bound by grayhaze 2014-08-31T18:58:00

I think this game, when finished, could play quite well on a handheld. When I played I experienced some fps slowdowns, just so you know.
As you can see the rooms appear and disappear around you, maybe one idea could be to let the player rearrange the rooms to his/her liking? Like drag and drop them maybe? :)

Other Side by Raphy 2014-09-01T17:18:00

I feel stupid, am I supposed to wait after having activated the stones? I'm activating them as shown in the sky(sky-order, stone-order), but there's probably something more.. :/
The game is really pretty though.

Other Side by Raphy 2014-09-02T16:58:00

Got it working this time around, it seemed like the first sign hint hadn't triggered last time I played. (Maybe got to them before dark?)

Fear - Friendly Extraterrestrial Assembly Robot by Erkberg 2014-09-01T12:48:00

Neat idea, and well executed! I love the music, it is really good! I like that you implemented several levels introducing various concepts and different challenges. The graphics are a little so-so imo, but I like the character design. The thought of a smiling moon-sized robot is awesome! :D

The Swordman by iSamurai 2014-08-31T21:35:00

I really like the feedback from the attacks and their animation. It took a while to get used to the delay when attacking, but after a while it grows on you. The game was a little too hard for me, and I didn't fully understand what was happening when I died. Was I supposed to keep dying, or not? It almost felt as if I was progressing when I died(as I got to the house).

Marbles by Lokarunith 2014-09-01T15:45:00

Weird game and story, it felt a little laggy sometimes. Took a while before I saw the quick time event, maybe try and make those clearer?

Universal Love by sbarrio 2014-09-01T18:09:00

It got such an old schooly feel to it! Many interesting planets. So space. Wow.
Nice work! :D

InfiLoop by komjaur 2014-08-27T15:33:00

Interseting concept, but I don't think I really "got" it. I kept getting stuck in the blue room and got back to the white eye all the time. Nice work on the mood though, quite creepy!

Star Trucker by Dissiden7 2014-08-31T20:34:00

Cool game, nice interpretation of the theme! I think this game could fit quite well on a tablet. I like that you managed to get an upgrades system in there! As the camera zoomed out It became a little harder to read the text. Maybe visualize the resource in another way as well? A pie chart around the atmosphere perhaps?

Blueprint dude by hate-marina 2014-09-01T16:19:00

Cute game! I got stuck at level 4, in the wall, when teleporting. Sometimes it was hard to solve the puzzles as I couldn't see the other levels. Maybe make them visible in some way in the other dimensions as well. Maybe only around the portal when you're near it or maybe only the stuff that kills you. Anyway, solid game, I like the blueprint art style. Sweet music as well!

Souzou Cliff by PixlWalkr 2014-09-01T16:38:00

The snowy world looks especially good, nice work! The story is pretty good, but the pacing is a little too slow in my opinion. Coupled with the tutorial, it takes a long time before the game actually starts.
Nice job on crafting the story in 72 hours!

Notes from a Mad Mage by Razoric 2014-09-01T12:40:00

What a fun concept! The feedback from the fireballs and the explosions are really good! And the screams, oh my god the screams. Only annoyance might be that the bridges were a little narrow imo, but no biggie. Nice solid entry!

Sinister by Joe Williamson 2014-08-26T12:37:00

Short but sweet! :) Great atmosphere and presentation and incredible graphics and animation, nice work! More gameplay would have been nice of course, but I like that you managed to get that ending in there instead of not at all.

Mushroom connects by fcpfoof 2014-09-01T12:30:00

Cool game! I got so much of an Earthbound vibe from this game, and then when I ate the mushroom.. Was that Moonside? haha, awesome either way! The music fits well with the genre, but you should consider playing a different tune in the mushroom world(something distorted, or just the main tune backwards maybe). The graphics were ok, but why was the dude so flat when seen from the side? :P
Nice work! :)

Kill ME by TagliatL 2014-08-31T19:39:00

I really like the puzzles and your interpretation of the theme! However, I was having some problems with a shaky camera, as well as glitchy physics and collision(fell through some platforms). The art style is really stylish, I'd love to see a post-compo version with smoother controls and fixed collision checks.

Chipset-0 by deepnight 2014-08-31T19:11:00

You managed to get a nice Portal-esque mood going in this one! I like that you really managed to cram a lot of elements into the game. The controls felt a bit clumsy though, not sure if it was because the choice of input keys or the size of the robot. Sweet pixels (really like how that rope moves) as always!
Cute ending! :)

Jessie and Jack by rnlf 2014-09-01T15:06:00

Cool game, it felt quite polished. I like the recoil from the weapon and the switch-effect. Reminds a little of the effects in the game Liero. The upgrade "More bullets" was awesome, haha! The puzzle designs felt a tad repetitive though.

Yume by Nananas 2014-08-31T20:15:00

Cool "hexels-y" art style! :) The world reminded me a little of Bastion. I found it a little annoying that I could begin exploring without getting the first quest started, and the dialogues were a little on the slow side. Cute ending, a little short perhaps, but overall felt polished. Nice work!

Tough Love Machine by intmain 2014-08-27T15:26:00

I love the art style! Challenging puzzles! The learning curve is maybe a bit too steep for me though.

Untitled World Game by jovoc 2014-09-01T17:48:00

As others have said, are you planning on porting to other platforms?

AtomicBomberCats by gwa 2014-08-31T19:29:00

I think I was the only one online when playing it? So I'm not sure I got the whole experience. I like the platforming controls, I think you got them working quite well. The interpretation of the theme is a little so-so, but I like how you spun it off to just include some fun cat platforming action in the two most familiar platforming settings! ;) The cat sounds were a bit creepy though, hehe.

CAVVE by Zupoman 2014-08-31T20:52:00

I like the art style and the fact that it changes colour. The jumping felt a little unresponsive at times though, and caused me to die a lot.

Vibrastones by 5T4MP5 2014-09-01T18:13:00

Clever concept, I really like what you did with the theme! The graphics and physics might need more work though.

Hungry Hungry Overlords by Polyducks 2014-08-31T18:50:00

I didn't quite get how to play it, I'm afraid. I couldn't really understand what it was that the overlords wanted to survive. Love the humor and the colourful minimalistic style though! The music helped create a nice atmosphere as well.

Shattered by guimonpa 2014-09-01T15:32:00

Wow, so much content! I like the jetpack, but I was having some framerate issues, and the tricky manouvering needed in some places with that big collision box for the player made some areas too frustrating(the spiky tunnels, where you have to change direction mid-air). Really nice platforming, impressive amount of content for 72 hours! Spooky mood, but I would have loved to see some aliens to headbutt with the jetpack! >:D

Parallel Rift by liquidminduk 2014-09-01T15:17:00

The game is really beautiful, but the goal of the game is a little boring imo. There should be something more to spice up the gameplay, especially as you're replaying the same level again and again, maybe change it up a little each time?
The wall jumping felt really responsive!

Nature Trial by Naytron 2014-09-01T16:56:00

Really pretty pixel art, it sets the mood! The controls are a bit better in postcompo, but I would have liked to see being able to click on the neighbouring cell were you wanted to go for even better precision. Are you planning on adding animations?
Really nice work on the puzzles! :)

NOODLE FEELING by Magdev 2014-09-02T22:42:00

noby noby noodle feels!?!?! Love thy noodle

Starpiercer by Schrodinger Games 2014-08-31T23:08:00

The graphics and music are both top notch, and the fracturing effect on stuff you collide with is really cool! I wish there was more to the gameplay though, as there really isn't much to actually do in the game.
I hope you're considering a post-compo version!

Bi-Bob by Donar 2014-09-01T16:05:00

I got stuck on the wrong end of the first door with the timed buttons. There should probably be earlier checkpoints, when you can fail the puzzles. I like the concept, clever idea!

ScratchMaster Space Adventure Mixtape by maildaemon 2014-08-31T20:12:00

So weird... The Jazz planet was hilarious, and so were most of the alien jibberjabber. :D
But you should do something about the controls and level layout. It felt quite awkward to control the camera with the arrow keys.

In Phase by McFood 2014-09-01T16:48:00

You've got some really nice game mechanics going there! The graphics are simple but does their job well of distinguishing the two worlds. Nice work!

Carrier Wave by invader 2014-08-31T20:18:00

I was having some problems with controlling as well, I don't really understand what I am. :P It's pretty mesmerizing to look at though.

Waterfly Octus by gillenew 2014-09-01T16:11:00

This game is so pretty!! :D Really nice work! Controlling was a little finicky in some places, like the little dude accelerated too quickly. The music loop is a tad too short as well. Other than that, a nice solid entry with super cute graphics! :)

Song of the Dodo by uvwar 2014-08-31T19:46:00

I love how the ship swings by and drops of a SWARM of pigs! The pigs are crazy by the way. Interesting interpretation of the theme, but the controls and the ever rotating camera made it too hard to control. Maybe consider adding some kind of attack ability to fend of those blood thirsty herbivores? ;D

1 * 5 by eyeofbri 2014-08-31T20:00:00

Strange game, I like the environments. I couldn't really grasp what was happening in the water world. I think I drowned in the water(kept falling down), but I could swim upwards using F. I couldn't enter the green gem however, the "enter?" image kept flickering, but I was using the F button to swim.

Super Alien Bro by nerd burglars 2014-09-02T22:21:00

Pretty neat idea with the temporary powerups. I think something like that could be useful for a mobile game as well. The power flower or whatever it was that started the party mode was hilarious. But why couldn't I kill the enemies when I was huge? :P Cool little game! Couldn't really see the theme connection though.

Dear Sister by Robinerd 2014-08-31T22:42:00

Phew, it left me with that heavy feeling in my gut.
Nice work on the mood and the music mechanic. The only thing that irked me was the colour of the text, it felt out of place(imo). Everything else is spot on and I think you handled a sensitive theme very well.

Galactic Dump by SoulGame 2014-09-01T13:01:00

Well there are a lot more stars in my rating of this game than in your game I think. ;)
It's really polished, the small animations and sound effects really completes the brilliant puzzles(how you managed to design and test all of those, I have no idea). AWESOME!

Trappy Tomb by jimmypaulin 2014-09-02T22:01:00

What a fantastic use of the theme! I love it! You actually managed to turn floaty controls into an acceptable gameplay feature! The game is really hard, but in a good way, and the comments are an awesome touch. Nice work! :)

Schrodinghost by Carduus 2014-09-02T22:37:00

A really solid entry, fun to see a point and click game! I like that it was a little like ghost trick, but I liked the setting for this game a lot more than that of ghost trick. Funny monologues as well! Shrödinger was really gangly and creepy, hehe. The last puzzle felt a little less polished, but overall the game holds a really high amount of polish. Awesome work! :D

Gargantuan by TheGreenTie 2014-08-31T20:57:00

I can't get it to run. :/ I get and error message saying: "TestPlatformer" "Command line option syntax error. Type Command /? for Help." I've not rated because of this.

Gargantuan by TheGreenTie 2014-08-31T21:14:00

Love it! :D
Reminded me at the beginning of "Rendezvous with Rama". You've really managed to set the mood in this game, especially with the sounds, nice work! The final stage was really creepy!

LD33 — You are the Monster

Run Fonster, Run! by Larzan 2015-08-31T20:29:00

Really hard when the hunters have such large field of view and turn around instantly. The step sound is pretty annoying as well. The graphics are simple but cute, especially the poor little monster. I love stealth games, and though this could do with some more polish, it captures the essence and suspense of stealth games, nice work! :)

Up & Away! by bytegrove 2015-08-24T15:20:00

Glad people seem to enjoy it!
Just a heads up everyone:

THE CAMERA IS NOT FIXED!
USE THE MOUSE TO CONTROL THE CAMERA!

;) (forgot to put that in the tutorial)

I've added a postcompo version with some bugfixes, as I noticed the player could get stuck on enemies some times. I also sped up the camera movement.

Up & Away! by bytegrove 2015-08-24T16:43:00

Updated the postcompo version:
= expanded tutorial(showing camera movement)
= bugfixed camera movement for gamepads
= fixed wrong button used for jump on gamepads
= added auto centering of camera behind character after 3 seconds when still
= increased speed of camera movement
= tweaked the movement of the player character.

Thank you all for your feedback! :D

Up & Away! by bytegrove 2015-08-24T17:27:00

Gamepad mapping fixed in postcompo version, sorry about that.

Up & Away! by bytegrove 2015-08-24T18:00:00

New fixes in postcompo version:
= Music glitch (multiple sound objects playing) fixed.
= Wall glitch at first enemy fixed (When you walked in the corner the physics system broke and you disappeared)

Up & Away! by bytegrove 2015-08-27T04:46:00

Yeah, that's a good point Goutye. Thanks for the input!

Up & Away! by bytegrove 2015-08-27T14:18:00

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Seems like I should take a look at making it possible to perform smaller movements as well, and to add some grace period for jumps. I guess for camera you might want to be able to switch between automatic and manual?(right now its something half-tacky inbetween)
I'm thinking of tweaking jump heights as well, so triple jump are only necessary sometimes and when its really obvious.

Even In Your Ludum Dare by madameberry 2015-08-26T20:16:00

Weird game.. The hitbox felt a little messed up after the uh thingymajig got too large. :I

Takodemon by Split82 2015-08-25T10:29:00

W0w, what a cool idea, and so well executed! The last level was a little tiresome, but other than that I think the difficulty curve was really nicely planned out and and the pace of the game really matches the atmosphere, and vice versa. Now I want a custom controller for this game, shaped like the monster! :D
I really love the mood in this game, nice work!

Trullskoll by charliecarlo 2015-08-25T13:52:00

Wow, nice work! There's a lot of depth to this game, although imo it started to feel somewhat grinding-heavy early on. The graphics and animations are superb, the atmosphere is nice as well, but some form of music or background sound would have been nice.
Crazy ambitious game! :D

NotZilla: Ice Cream Vendor by RisingPixel 2015-08-25T13:32:00

Love the art style and how you used the theme! Poor Notzilla, haha! :D
The game was too hard for me though, I had a hard time trying to get to the "zoomed in" state, to hand over the ice cream, and often when I did things went by so fast and I was always deemed too rude. :P
Overall really, really nice work! :)

Super Sea Serpent Simulator by CosmicAdventureSquad 2015-08-25T11:25:00

Wow! o.o What an awesome-looking game! I really like the paper effect you achieved, it all remind me of a fleet foxes music video. Neat! The water ripple effects were subtle but really nice! And the dynamic music feels great!
The mouse controls felt kinda wonky though.
All in all, a very solid entry!

Evolution by sapermysz 2015-08-25T12:40:00

Too slow movement and reload, made the game very hard in the beginninng. A tutorial would have been nice, it's a little confusing. Nice work on the sprites!

Crepuscule by oxysoft 2015-08-25T15:24:00

Cool game! I like the simple controls, pretty clever! Sometimes the position of the jaw bugged and the bottom half was positioned on top of the lower. A highscore would have been cool!
Nice work, creepy monster! Oh wait it was me all along, never mind.. :P

Nomzilla: Munching Mayhem by PixlWalkr 2015-08-25T15:19:00

Simple and fun! Super cute graphics! Reminded me of the style of Earthbound. Nice work!

D.A.S.H by TagliatL 2015-08-31T20:13:00

Nice moves and effects! It was a little awkward to play with a keyboard though. It felt like there was something missing in the gameplay, but I cannot really figure out what. Maybe a slo-mo effect when, for example, throwing enemies? Oh and some camera shake and sound effects for that extra "oomph" perhaps? :)
Neat game, clean graphical style that I think you can explore even further should you continue developing this!

BIG BAD WOLF by allinlabs 2015-08-31T20:51:00

Nice puzzle game! I love the muted explosions, they go well with the toned down colour palette. The puzzles are a little too simple, but I guess that the main challenge is to get gold on all. You managed to make a lot of levels! Really cool!
Nice work! :)

Hero Mate by Lancelot Gao 2015-08-26T16:19:00

Really cool concept and really well executed! Super nice work! My only complaints are:
The music, it was really annoying.
The level with the large squid. The jump timing and hit areas are too unforgiving, combined with the music and the fact that you have to clear the gap 4 times, made me give up.
But all in all one of the best and most original entries I've played so far, really nice work!! :D

Mobs, Inc. by Pietro Ferrantelli 2015-08-31T21:04:00

Wow this is good! So well polished, the gameplay, the art, the animations and the music and sfx. It all comes together so perfectly. The boss is awesome!
Only thing I missed was a "You're fired!" on game over.
Really nice work with everything! :D

Match by SojaBird 2015-08-25T15:14:00

Interesting interpretation of the theme! The controls were a little unintuitive, and hard to tell apart from the game world. Maybe let the player be able to control the wind by rotating the wind icon directly? Maybe have some more graphical hints of how the parameters will affect how the fire spreads.
Cool game, nice work! :)

PokEscape: Magicrap's Stealthy Journey for Survival & Gyrodeuce by Tuism 2015-08-25T15:06:00

Haha, fun interpretation of the theme! I like all the little clever ways in which you manage to avoid copyright infringement, hehe! The game got pretty hard, pretty fast, but it was fun, I think you could develop this further for sure. Nice work!

Undetected by Robinerd 2015-08-25T07:58:00

Nice execution of a really neat idea! I really liked the moving lasers, they added more suspense to the puzzles. The puzzles were pretty clever, but they felt like it was more about nudging the characters by the correct amount rather than figuring out the correct path. The characters accelerated too quickly when using the keyboard, and the hit area for the characters when using the mouse felt a little too small, made the drag and drop feel a little unresponsive.
I liked that you managed to make so many levels, nice work!
The art-thief setting is really cool, would be nice to see that concept fleshed out more if you decide to continue developing this!
By the way, aren't the real monsters art critics? ;)

Lovers on a Park Bench by peterthehe 2015-08-25T12:31:00

Nice writing, I started pretty silly I thought, with the robot voices, but then I got kinda moody by the story. Too much started happening at once when the shadow appeared, so I got a little lost there of what it meant. There was no text in the narrative at the end, and due to the music volume I couldn't discern what was said.
Awesome music, really sets the atmosphere.
I think you really got a knack for writing, nice work!

Cant i just stretch my neck peacefully ? by grynca 2015-08-31T21:20:00

Ooh an emscripten game! Cool! I've been itching to try out emscripten myself. Seeing how you managed to create a game with your framework during the compo is really cool and inspiring, nice work!
Fun game idea as well, although it could do with some further polishing. I like the funny title. :P

Snacker by ToloaGames 2015-08-25T12:13:00

Pretty fun little game! Nice work on getting some camera shaking in there, it's a really nice touch. I had problems to fire the fireball, I only managed to do it three times.

Snail Muncher by dustinaux 2015-08-25T11:42:00

I really like the somber music, and the sound effects are really creepycrawly. Nice UI elements! The collision felt a little rough as the spider got stuck on the walls.
Maybe the level is a little simple layout-wise, but overall nice work and nice graphics!

Monster Eggs by Riftpoint 2015-08-25T15:38:00

Fun game! :) The blue monster seems kind of pointless, maybe make that attack better or give him custom enemies? Would love to have seen more kinds of monsters. The controls felt like a game for mobile, are you planning on releasing it for mobile?
Nice work!

server INFLICTION by krasus 2015-08-25T11:50:00

Nice interface and idea, but the wait between options were too long. It was a little boring.

Feed the Monsters by dennerbougo 2015-08-31T20:22:00

Yeah, consider fixing the web link so that you don't have to download it in order to play (link to the html-file instead of the folder).
The game itself is pretty neat, I think the sheep run away from you in a really nice way. Cute graphical style and nice idea, but it lacks a little polish.

Flappy Monster by FlappyMonster 2015-08-25T09:47:00

ba-dum-tsh

Who's the Boss? by fubenalvo 2015-08-25T12:46:00

I don't know what the rules say about the use of copyrighted assets...? Nice theme interpretation and idea, but the platforming was a little cumbersome and I just couldn't figure out how to get the pizza. It was on the map, but not in the level?

bloody tentacles by zuurr 2015-08-26T16:01:00

Cool tentacle effect, nice work! I found the controls pretty unintuitive, maybe make it possible to control the tentacles with the arrow keys?
I like the menacing atmosphere in the game! :)

Chompy by GeorgeBroussard 2015-08-31T21:16:00

Cute game, I like how you interpreted the theme! I found it pretty annoying that the level reset completely when you died, some checkpoints would've been nice.
Nice retro graphics, but the fish-eye effect was a tiny bit nauseating.
Nice work overall! :)

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Monstrous by bytegrove 2015-12-15T03:53:00

Added some info text. :)

LD35 — Shapeshift

windowframe by managore 2016-04-23T14:57:00

Very very impressive!
It's funny to see your progress in your blog posts, looks like this was a very tricky game mechanic to get to work correctly. Nice work, the platforming- and arrow shooting mechanics are perfect! Really nice graphics as well. Lotsa stars!

Zen and the Art of Transhumanism by Deconstructeam 2016-04-22T19:51:00

Really creepy cyberpunk atmosphere accomplished here - brr! Nice work! The lathe mechanic is really well done, but I think it could've been a little more forgiving.
But overall really well done!

Biota by bytegrove 2016-04-23T14:18:00

@tayl1r:
That's awesome! ^^

3D platformer thing by vapgames 2016-04-22T19:17:00

Really nice animations and cute characters! I love how bouncy everything was! You have something really promising here!

Amyounition by HacksawUnit 2016-04-23T11:41:00

Really impressive for 48 hours, nice level design. Unfortunately I got stuck in the roundabout. :|
Super nice polish on this one, lots of stars, awesome work!! :D

ORIKAMI by Mnemusyne 2016-04-23T11:50:00

Very beautiful art style, and nice effects, sound and music! Would've been cool to maybe let the different origami shapes have different properties.

Two Jobs by Alexandre Szybiak 2016-04-24T09:27:00

Hehe, really clever! And really frustrating! xP
Nice work and awesome interpretation of the theme!

Tremor by Troyan 2016-04-22T19:25:00

The backstory is really weird.. Is this based on a real story(if so, why publish her name)? I didn't really understand what was happening in the game, some sort of description or tutorial would've been nice.

Through Oneself by Omiya Games 2016-04-22T19:11:00

Really cool idea! Unfortunately I think it crashed when I crouched.

Yours, Monster by FloatingGhost 2016-04-24T09:23:00

Yay, another creature editor! And wow, you managed to get a lot of stuff in there in only 48 hours! Really nice with the animated menus, tutorials and scare cinematic! And lots of different parts and transformation options! And some were even animated! o.o Crazy!
Really nice work! :)

Transformagician by HuvaaKoodia 2016-04-24T15:10:00

Nice and creepy game! :D
Very good looking graphics and eerie atmosphere, nice work!

Photagogue by ChuiGum 2016-04-29T10:47:00

Oh! A dinosaur game! :D
Pretty sweet music! The controls felt a little untight and the fighting mechanic lacked feedback.
I didn't really see how it connected to the theme either.
The platforming mechanics felt pretty good, but could probably use some polish.
Cool sunglasses! :]

Devil's Hand by Kuupu 2016-04-23T14:25:00

Wow, this is really impressive! The atmosphere is just -spot on-! I love the lighting and lo-res textures and meshes. The enemies are super creepy, haha! :O :D
Only complaint is that I fell through the floor in behinde the room (the second or third) where you jump down from the ledge.
Really impressive work, very inspiring! :)

Shapeshifting by Tooichi 2016-04-22T19:40:00

I couldn't get past the green worm in the beginning haha. :P It was so freakishly fast!
I like where you're going with the art style, nice mood.

ShapeShift Runner by martymon 2016-04-27T11:01:00

Really nice implementation of the theme! Clever to reward the player by breaking the bricks, led at least me to play a little more recklessly. ;)
Nice work!

Prince Charmless by Pietro Ferrantelli 2016-04-23T14:32:00

Incredible! So much stuff in this game, and everything is just so hilarious. That prince sure is nasty. xD
Fantastic work!!!

Prince Charmless by Pietro Ferrantelli 2016-04-27T10:57:00

Hilarious game! Super impressed by all the stuff and game modes you managed to get in there!
I love how the mirror breaks, haha! xD
Nice work, all the stars! ;)

Grim crash by umb16 2016-04-23T12:16:00

Nice implementation of the theme, the level design however felt a bit lacking as I always got stuck and I just wanted to smash my way downwards, like in the gif.
The shapeshifting mechanic is really satisfying but the input felt a little unresponsive at times.
Overall nice work, I think you should develop this even further! :)

Shape Assault by thomz12 2016-04-22T18:47:00

Nice work! I -LOVE- the catchy tune! The weapons got a really nice "oomph" to them as well. I had a hard time really understanding what was happening a lot of the time however, but I managed to beat the level!

Spirit of the Ancients by Orion Dev 2016-04-23T14:07:00

Short but still surprisingly atmospheric with what you have. I like the primordial mood you've accomplished, nice work!

Pixel Pets by uheartbeast 2016-04-22T19:09:00

Nice work on all the different gameplay parts! Cool you managed to get the battles in there!

Audioplasmic by uvwar 2016-04-23T14:44:00

Cool! I missed having some interactivity with the particles.

"Wizard Prototype" - Unfinished- by SinclairStrange 2016-04-27T10:56:00

Really impressive for being just a prototype, you still managed to get a lot in there (even bosses!)! I really like the kirby style this game has going for it, nice work!
One suggestion is to use another button than shift as it triggers the sticky-key popup on windows.
Other than that, awesome work! :)

Shift;:. by Anikki 2016-04-24T09:17:00

Wow, so well executed! I could easily see this as a smartphone game. Fits perfectly with the theme as well and really fun! My only complaint is that I couldn't restart the game after I had died (I only got an angry sound effect).
Awesome work, felt super polished! Many, many stars for you! xD

Runaway Clothes by scorched 2016-04-22T19:37:00

Nice music and a funny intro! haha! Was a little annoying that my turned-to-stone ducks flew away, I wanted to collect them! ;)
Really nice graphics as well!

Run Rainbow Run by djosef 2016-04-23T12:19:00

Aww yeah, super sweet game! It has an awesome flow to it! The music fits really well also, and the characters are just too cute! ^^ Nice work!

Revamp by tayl1r 2016-04-22T18:55:00

It's a pretty hard game, but the idea is really nice! Cool abilitites! I found the colour scheme a little hard on the eyes while playing, it works better in screenshot form though, as it is a very stylistic and pretty game still.
Nice work on the level design!

Douglas' Escape by pirate_shell 2016-04-24T09:13:00

The graphics are awesome! And the idea is well implemented! I like the short descriptions that also moved the story forward, would've liked to see more of that! The music is also nice, fits well with the rest of the game. Another thing I would've liked is some sort of visual or sound reminding me that my mana is gone when I try to use it. It left me a little confused in the beginning.
All in all, awesome work! ;)

Triangles Say Yip by sorceress 2016-04-24T09:57:00

Really good story, it made me a little sad, the personas of the shapes felt very real. However, I haven't finished it yet, as I wanted to save the game as it felt kinda long, but when I hit esc to bring up a menu, the game just reset. A longer ld-game like this could really benefit from a save function. I might revisit it later, because its really solid.

shapescalation by ploerre 2016-04-22T18:42:00

Pretty tricky game, I like I how the levels were designed to make me learn the system. The music made the atmosphere kinda creepy, nice! I didn't like the wobble effect on the shapes, it made it quite jarring to look at. Nice colour scheme and nice implementation of the theme!

Breaking Fat by SantiHisteria 2016-04-22T19:00:00

Hehe, funny backstory! I found the controls a little clunky, and it was annoying to get back to the difficulty select screen every time I died.
Nice interpretation of the theme! :)

Shifting Shapes by g12345 2016-04-23T12:09:00

Neat idea and clean execution of it. The movement was a little annoying as it felt like the cursor accelerated way to fast.

Bulletmorfer by Schurtz 2016-04-19T10:52:00

Hm, I wasn't able to do anything with the WASD-keys. And the first time I opened the tutorial I didn't get the explanatory text (I got it the second time). I was never able to get the hang of the aiming. I also got no sound.
The graphics are really nice though! The bullet characters are super cute! ^^

The Wewelsburg Experiment by BubsyPoochies 2016-04-19T10:47:00

Haha, what a gem! ;D I love the sound effects and the various characters. The grim reaper's laugh is the best!
The environments have a nice atmosphere to them. The upbeat music might have been out of place if it hadn't been for how well it's synced with the overall flow of the game. The music itself is also awesome by the way!
Only thing that annoyed me was the collision detection on the larger characters and how you seemed to stop every time you attacked.
Overall a very nice and polished game. Mega plus for the opening cinematic, hooked me instantly. :)

Party at the Knightclub by Elisée and friends 2016-04-21T11:05:00

A really good entry! I just adore the art style, and the dialogues and sound effects are hilarious!
Really sweet game, I wasn't able to figure out who was the bridge operator though..
Really dig the LucasArts atmosphere, I think you nailed it perfectly! Nice work! :D

Miss Turner's Magical Pet Swap Shop by Rose 2016-04-24T09:36:00

Wow, Miss Turner's Magical Pet Swap Shop works great as a game.
I have to dock some stars off for the delay though...

Just kidding! You get 5x7 stars! ;D

Really well polished entry and it fits perfectly with the theme! The amount of stuff you managed to cram into this game is astounding! From all the various animals and dialouges, to the little animations here and there.
Really well done, nice work!! :)

Exhuman by Arvydas 2016-04-22T19:34:00

I like the backstory! I had some trouble playing this, it was pretty hard. I couldn't get the ranged attack working, so I died at the start every time..

Aftertile by LOSTALLOY 2016-04-23T14:41:00

Nice idea, but it felt like its execution could've been better. I kept trying to get the tile I turned into to match the tiles beneath me but nothing happened. Then, at one place I saw an empty spot where there should've been a tile and I tried placing the ghost there and that worked. But the tile that I had turned into didn't match the one that was missing, so that left me a little confused. Really interesting idea though and the graphics and music are really good. Worth developing further, for sure! :)

Robot Snake by eduardogacn 2016-04-23T14:17:00

Oh yes, this is awesome! You have a real winner here, the mechanics are really clever, awesome interpretation of the theme. My only complaint is that I can't use WASD for controls as arrow keys makes the browser window scroll. But that's nitpicking because there really is only positive stuff to say about this! ;D Awesome work!

Edge Shift - Blackhole by Danoli3 2016-04-29T10:41:00

It was a little tricky to play, but the raymarched graphics are really cool! Really cool that you used emscripten!

Cult Quest by solkar 2016-04-23T12:07:00

Nice design on the character and environments! I really like your art style. Could use some more more gameplay elements to spice it up.

SlimeShift by darksshades 2016-04-23T11:29:00

It was a little too complex for me I think, maybe having the slime change colour as well, to match the arrows, would help? Anyways, nice music and graphics! :)

FiveCubeFlight by Toonhawk 2016-04-23T11:46:00

Really cool idea, but way too hard in the beginning. But I could easily see this developed further into something really solid! Nice work, impressive!

Bounded by Gravity by erb 2016-04-23T12:03:00

Cool with planetary gravity, but the framerate is really really low, in the webgl version. Try having shorter draw distance on the objects on the planet surface (the objects on the neighbouring planet doesn't have to be drawn when you're not on it for instance, since they are so small).
Nice music and atmosphere. :)
