Muffin-powers activate! I liked how this is a violence-free shoot-em-up. Also the colour scheme is really great.

Muffin-powers activate! I liked how this is a violence-free shoot-em-up. Also the colour scheme is really great.
Nice play on the theme. I find the game too hard, but others might like it this way. Nice graphics.
I didn't understand the winning conditions, when the overlapping pieces turn blue, what does that mean? Have I already lost then? Is there some kind of high score based on the number of blue bits? Too bad the tutorial was missing, I might have understood it better.
I had the crash once (with the new version) but didn't know, what exactly I was doing, I restarted the game and everything went fine.
The game might actually be a lot of fun, if I understood it better...
Can you spell minimalism? Never saw so much fun with so few pixels (and half pixels, in fact).
Bookmarked your game for later. Great one!
I wanted to play this one since I saw it on IRC, finally found the time. Still love the art style. Really great. Very tough, too. Couldn't beat it, even though I tried for an hour or so.
This is ridiculously difficult! After 10 attempts I managed to complete one level! Very nice execution. But so, so hard!
I've seen this done before and still don't like it. I know, it's the theme, but it's frustrating not to let people play again.
It is so difficult! The controls are not in my favor. Nice graphical style!
Nice game. By the way, are there any extra points awarded for the most awesome title?
The soundtrack blows my mind. Really like it. It's quite hard to avoid the enemies though, so maybe you want a bit less steep learning curve.
So sad. REALLY great interpretation of the theme. Loved this game, only the sound effects were below the niveau of the rest of the game. Still one of the best entries.
Nice game. Very unique elements in it. Also very unique graphics style. I made it to the end, but I was neither awesome nor godlike enough in that one level :-(
Music gets a bit monotonous after a while, but fits the game nevertheless quite well!
I made it to "The end". Guess that means I win? Crazy idea, a full 4 stars on innovation. But I have no idea what I was doing :D
The game looks really great and you start feeling awesome with this BFG in your hands. I think, the game is way to easy though. After a while, when you get enough firepower it's all just, stop aiming, just run around. The enemies should drop fewer medkits and should definitely be more numerous and more powerful. Oh, and the music is way too loud compared to the sound effects, at first I though there were none.
But I still couldn't stop playing for a quarter of an hour, it is really a lot of fun!
Ha! Nice one. I like all the references to other games. Also made me use my brain.
Sound designed matches the game perfectly (diddledeed-did-deed!). Very much fun!
A bit buggy, but I liked the mood.
Wow, a really great game. It gets quite hectic once the ship hits a wall. Very high difficulty. I liked it a lot, not least because of the fantastic graphics!
Nice one! Nice play on the theme and nice visuals. The sounds are a bit "simple" but they match the overall style. One suggestion though, allow movement in diagonals if two direction keys are pressed at once, this would make it quite a bit more playable.
Haha, even more random chain-reaction stuff than my own :-)
I like the intro effects.
The text intro is way too fast for non native english speakers. I could barely follow. The game itself is fun though.
This game is so great! I thought I was playing a jam entry, not a compo entry. It looks so polished and finished! Really good job. It's like Asteroids meets survival.
Can't get the music out of my head now. Thanks ;-)
I hate the not replay part. Didn't understand the game the first time and died after 3 seconds. Now I can't replay. I understand that that's your take on the theme, but it's frustrating.
Very beautiful graphics! Needs a bit polishing (cops should stay on the board after a failure so that the player may move them around instead of placing them all over again) and debugging (sometimes z-fighting between border of roof and cops), but very unique idea.
Amazing game. The camera feels a bit to shaky to me, but all in all great. I like how the gun feels like POW block in Super Mario :D
I tried your game already yesterday when you posted the link on IRC. I see you implemented the color fading on the engine exhaust I suggested to you :-)
I still like the gameplay and art style, but after playing it again on my smaller resolution notebook, I found a minor problem: The game tries to open a window with a fixed (but too large) resolution, so that the edges are invisible to me. You might want to make it configurable.
Wow... I will probably install Windows just to try this one :D
It looks so amazing!
Great gameplay and graphics, might need some kind of arcade mode with high scores though.
Not a big fan of the humor though, but to each his own, I guess.
Good game all in all.
It looks really nice and fun, sound is awesome. I just can't really play it because I have no friends. Will rate as if I had some though!
Nice game. The controls were a bit difficult for me, especially on my notebook touchpad, but all in all fun.
At first I though, wow, only 14.7K, the download must be broken! But in fact, it worked. Astonishing.
I like what you managed to do with only so small a download. Also difficulty was a bit high for my liking (tried twice and failed miserably).
Two annotations: First, what others have pointed out, you can move into blocks if you approach them in an unfavorable direction. Second, if you hold the space bar, you don't regain magic charge nor does your descent slow down, while, if you only tap the spacebar in mid-air, you can almost (but not quite - nice balancing btw) hover. It'd feel better to me if you regained charge even when holding the space bar (and then spending it directly on flying again). But that's just my opinion.
Seems to be inspired by the last Star Trek movie :D
Really a fun game. i would have preffered the Up/Down keys swapped.
Interesting graphics style. And easily the bloodiest game I have ever seen :D
Nice adaption of the theme. A bit easy though.
It's probably fun, when lot's of people are online, looks solid, but is honestly a bit boring when you're alone.
To bad the sound effects are just so badly matching and quite frankly not very good, because the visuals are just amazing. Also -1 for using Dalek voices for obviously non-Dalek enemies. Also jumping sounds like farting. This would be a 5/5 if it weren't for the sound.
Still a good game and smooth dynamics though, just please not this sound!
Nice idea. Controls seem a bit laggy.
Nicely matching sound and visuals. I would have loved strafe-keys, way more diffucult without...
Nice idea. Took me quite long to figure out where I wanted to place what colour.
Yay, I got all 3 coins :-)
I might have needed a reset key a few times, had to restart the whole game every time. But sweet art and nice concept!
Can't start it either :-(
Not exactly my kind of game, but looks and feels like a solid and finished piece of work. Good job!
Sweet graphics style. Got a bit monotoneous after a while, but I'm no roguelike fan, so I'll blame it on the genre and for rating purposes pretend I liked roguelikes ;-)
Also, please allow holding the direction keys down to automatically progress through the turns.
Overall great execution, especially the art style got me!
Ha! Nice idea and nice realisation. Found it way too hard before I read the comments :D
Nice idea, but the game is a bit easy. I died of natural causes on the second try. Also, I don't think work increases you health. You might want to add "Work out" or something, costs money and happiness but adds health. Also, work should reduce health.
Had fun though.
Sweet. Really nice visuals and gameplay. Wanted to play this one all week but only now had the time to sit down at my windows machine and play it.
Really great game mechanics. A bit better graphics wouldn't harm. Had fun playing it anyway.
By the way, because I have seen a lot of games do this: X and Z are not the best keys to use for interaction, because they are only right next to each other on US/UK keyboard layouts, not in French or German. If you use number or special keys, everyone gets the same experience. But that doesn't effect the overall impression of the game.
Nice short one. If you go in the maximum horizontal speed, the drill hole is not drawn connected anymore. But this didn't take away the fun of the game. Oh, and controls are a bit too sensitive for my taste. Slower overall pace and more inert controls would make for a stronger feeling of "I'm deep underground and have to drill a hole".
Enjoyed it!
Great visuals, looks like Transport Tycoon or similar :D
Really nice writing. Didn't know what a Twine game was before this one, but I believe I checked every possible story path.
Hm, nothing happened for me. I see my robot, run around and nothing happens. But I also didn't see any text on the menus, which I had on other Unity games. I will therefore not rate, but it looks like an interesting game.
Quite a nice game. I would have preferred if the controls were relative to Jerry's heading.
Very interesting idea and nice style. If just the controls were not so difficult.
Wow, this one is really fun. Is it intentional that the creature is running all the way over on the right side of the window? It is almost impossible to see obstacles early enough, quite frustrating. (NOTE: I just played again and maximized the window, now she is running roughly in the center, you might want to check your geometry or start the window maximized).
But all in all, the gameplay is really smooth and fun, the graphics are some of the nicest I have seen in the compo so far and the music matches the theme very nicely.
One of the best games in the compo!
Funniest take on the theme I have seen so far. This music is so great. It's way to hard for me though, I tried the third level like a billion times and still couldn't finish it.
Had I had something like this on my Sega back in the day, it would have kept me awake for hours trying to beat it! Great job!
Oh man, how hard I such at this. Runs smoothly though, and looks nice. I'm just baaaaad at such games.
I really like the graphics style. Kept dying and dying over and over again without finding my girl :-(
This is probably the game I spent the most time with up to now. I killed Wilhelm every possible way, I think. This game looks to amazing and is so much fun. I will not continue before I know if there is any way at all, though. cannot find any further possibilities...
If this were a 48h entry and not jam, I'd probably cheat and check the source ;-)
Keep up the good work!
If you know the board game Code Breaker or Master Mind, this is actually quite easy, but it is really a nice implementation of it. I'd like to see some easier and faster input (maybe just up and down to select your hero, left and right to switch his colour).
Very beautiful graphics and sound!
Didn't quite make it to the end, but the first 5 levels or so (i stopped after the one with the cyan and magenta triangles) were fun. As others noted, quite hard though.
Could run a bit smoother, but overall nice game!
Superbly drawn graphics! The game itself is a bit easy, but fun.
Great style, very unique.
I ran very slowly on my machine, or maybe it was my internet connection (HSDPA) at the moment. The mechanics seemed to be fun, though.
Wow. I've been struggling with this game for an hour already. Progressing ultra slowly. One my top 3 entries so far. I can't even find any constructive criticism, because I just love this game. Fantastic art, great retro sound and music, fun gameplay and even the structuring of the game... intro game, menu, main game... top!
Like playing on drugs. Creepy as hell, especially with the music.
Oh, second level is too easy, took me only 20 times until I beat it. Pfft. Couldn't beat the third one though.
Wow. Simply wow. If you did this in 7h, what would this game have become if you had spent 48 or 72 hours on it. AWESOME graphics, unique gameplay, a strong message. Please do finish it!
After rating about 60 games, this one is my new favourite. 5 stars on everything except audio and humor, because it has neither.
I speechless!
OMG, the artwork! This is awesome. Also, without knowing Hamlet, I think you "modernized" the text a bit, in a way that made me actually LOL.
I think I'd kill myself before I could even hope to finish it, but that's most likely just because I don't know Hamlet (yet). I believe, I'll have to check when my local Shakespeare Company performs it.
I struggled a bit with the controls at first, but after working it out, it's fine.
Hm. This is the second Unity game I can't seem to get started on Linux. I saw others, that came packaged with an actual executable that I was able to start. You should either provide such an executable or instructions on how to start it. Will gladly try it then, because it looks nice.
Quite a difficult game. After dying ten times in the first (?) fire fight, I gave up. But I like your art style and the western theme is nicely done.
Two minor points:
* It is quite exhausting to run all the way through town every time you die (but maybe that's wanted).
* One time the bandits in the house stood still for about 30 seconds, I even thought, the game had crashed. If there is some random timing interval, you might want to set a maximum value to it or something.
Poor hamsters. Killed them all :-(
I like how the space ship uses a wooden steering wheel :D
So sad. But it looks super polished and makes platforming fun even in slow motion. Great game!
I don't really get it, it said my mission failed, but I didn't realize what I was doing wrong. Could be fun if you understand it, though.
Thanks for the feedback, guys, and then quite positive feedback :-)
@Norgg: there are actually a few levels that actually are impossible to solve (like a very flat terrain with only missiles which you can't reach with your bomb). And yeah, I figured that one with the "debriefing" out by now. Will change it in the next version and release it in three weeks.
Rothens: yeah, that's what I wanted in the beginning, but somehow I figured this version was more fun. One distant future release will probably be customizable.
caranha: Thanks for your input, I will definitely add those two things in the next release. Glad you liked the bouncing, that was one of the last things I added just for fun :D
Thanks to everyone who commented, it's a great feeling to get so much positive feedback on your first submission!
@MrBlade: 42 doesn't do this for me. Maybe the random number generator works differently on different JVM versions or something. :-(
Nope, there's no end, just randomly generated levels. I might think of some kind of arcade mode with high score for the post-compo version I'm working on.
Not bad for only one day of actual work. It feels a bit strange with the aiming offset and funny bouncy angles though.
+1 for Monty Python reference. The game itself needs some polishing and a lose-condition though.
Maybe I'm stupid, but I do not know how to run the game on Linux... There is no executable or shell script or anything... I would like to check it out, though...
Yo, I read your message on my project page. I'm sorry, I can't start it, as there is no executable file whatsoever. Web Player doesn't work under Linux. I will try it next time I boot Windows, you should consider finding out how to start in on Linux though, I guess I'm not the only Linux user with this problem. Especially because I have seen other Unity projects that had an executable included.
Finally found time to get Windows up and running to test this one out. I really like the way you "synthesized" the sound effects :D I definitely had fun playing it!
Really great art, perfectly matchingn colours.
When I got hit by on of the mobs in wave 2, it disappeared and I could not finish it :-(
Wow, I didn't know robot love could be so cute. This game has everything, unique graphical style, perfectly matching sound (I just love how all effects are just different sound on the piano - a real one?). Perfect difficulty to beat the game without getting frustrated or bored... and her sweet Derpina face.
Wish i had found this one earlier!
Too bad I'm alone and can't ask someone to play. Looks interesting, will not rate though.
Great game, I just suck at it, can't survive 10 seconds or so...
It looks so excellent! Really sweet!
This is amazingly complex for a compo entry. If you kill the bugs in it, it might become something great.
Sweet idea and smooth animation. Sound is badly missing though. Add a score counter and way wind or something to add a bit variety and you get a nice casual game.
I have no idea, what I am doing :-) The game might need some extra explanation. I like the idea very much though, I give you five stars for innovation. Sometimes the game seems to glitch, as my "partner" flies off while still hanging on my hand.
Great idea. The controls are SO difficult, I guess I have more resprect for fish now :D
I find it a bit difficult, but fun to play.
Really great visual style (no wonder, you're a graphic artist :)). Too bad there were no sound effects, they would have added greatly to the game.
It's fun :-) Might need an indicator for the finish line and/or best time high scores or something to make it even better!
Ha, great game. Actually really playable and addictive!
Nice one. And full of doubleclick-awesomeness :D
I also think that the bullets should be bigger.
Kрасивая игра, товарищ!
One of the few games I really played for more than about 15 minutes. Really sweet artstyle and a crazy story. I ran out of bullets very soon and then ran all the way to the end, dodging bullets. Maybe a way to kill another enemy with the hammer would be nice (they are just too fast and turn around immediately, give the player half a second time to hit them or so, maybe adding a bonus achievement for killing EVERYONE with the hammer).
I enjoyed this game, one of my favorites!
Oh. Bad encoding. That's supposed to read as "Krasivaya igra, tovarish!" in cyrillic. Just ignore ;-)
Haha, silly game. A bit too easy for my taste. Might need a timer or something. Hep - ouch - ouch - yeah!
Haha, I hope I meet an evil princess in my dream so I can talk to her and get super powers. The boss fight was not obvious at all, I was just seconds away from quitting. But then I noticed the silent thud when she was hit.
Good game, really great style. Brings back old memories :D
Greatest soundtrack. Made me almost rage quit a few times, especially in the first helicopter level. It feels like the controls are a bit off, that old fart doesn't seem to jump exactly when I want him to. Old bastard.
Really enjoyed it!
Cool game. Would have almost missed it, if it weren't for the Button Masher Bros. I really love all the small details and the treasures were so sweet tributes to so many cool games!
I liked how the music got filtered under water and the looks of the bear when hurt. Really cool game.
Cool concept. I really liked the "creepy" shader. Very new and fresh concept!
I think this would be great as a mobile game with multitouch :D
I did it! Stage 4 took a while to figure out, but it is perfectly solvable by wits alone :-)
The boss fight was quite hard, but I still managed. This is a really new concept, I like it a lot, full score in innovation! The graphics are good, and it matches the theme.
Why does this have so few ratings? You should go out and rate others so you become more visible, this game deserves it.
Only thing that made it a bit hard is that sometimes it doesn't understand where I want to attach a property, maybe the interface needs a few tweaks.
All in all a great entry! I was really entertained!
HALIARIOUS! Funniest game I played so far.
Cool game. Couldn't finish the last one off though. Guess it's something to do with the bees, but couldn't find out how :-(
But really cool looks and sound!
Really cool concept. Took me a while to figure out the meaning of the different parts, but in the end I managed. Great game.
Really cool game. Love it almost as much as the music :)
Looks really good. To bad there is no real gameplay. But the art style and mood is astonishing.
Hmmm. I would have hoped for a bit more of a story. It begins with a strong introduction, then it builds tension as one goes deeper into the atmosphere. then you encounter the cube and then... nothing, more or less, except for something that feels like a soviet propaganda movie.
Also, i found it a bit hard with the instantaneous death upon the smallest mistake. The landing part might need some kind of indication for the speed and distance to the surface (just zooming out a bit more might actually help).
It was a bit annoying to play the whole game with the keyboard but having to switch to the mouse after every death. A reset-key on the keyboard might help, especially when you die so often.
Besides that, cool game, and an interesting start of a story (a bit Arthur C. Clarke style, reminded me a lot of 2001). Especially the radio voice over was cool.
Also not sure about the theme, but the game itself is fun and really nice to look at, even if i don't like this kind of card based gameplay.
Exactly. I have no idea what percentage of the story I discovered, but the game conveys the feeling of running out of time and being helpless so intensely.
Nice one, especially for only 6 hours of work. Also, the music fits in really great.
Sorry for not giving you "humor" stars ;-)
Cool physics. It lagged a bit for me, but that might be caused by the ads on newgrounds.
I liked it a lot. It doesn't really get harder with time, also there is no real indication of how well one is doing. But the idea and visuals are great.
Played it a few times!
Too bad you couldn't make the full tree :-(
"Play through it and you might see how it fits the theme :) In my opinion it fits perfectly :)"
Totally my opinion. Wow, unexpected plot twist. Also really, really awesome pixel art. Room 666 was a bit of a steep learning curve, but I managed :D
I think this game is just the way it needs to be. At first, I thought the same, meh, no real ending, no ebjective, laaaaame. But then, after playing it for a few minutes I discovered the details and realized, this boy is trapped there and will NEVER get anything else to do than paint on his sheets of paper and do bug races. Ever. That made me really, really sad. Nice piece of work, almost poetry!
Can't stop playing :-) As you say, it doesnt have much to do with the theme, but still a whole lot of fun :D
Nice. Another submarine game \o/ A bit hard to navigate with the big submarine covering half the screen, but i have no idea how one could fix this. Maybe allow changing the camera angle? And it is sooo hard. I dropped of 3 pipes, refueled after every one and ran out of fuel right next to the refueling station :-(
Definitely a fun game!
Sadly, the bird-with-top-hat floated far above the desk, so I could neither "hear" him talk nor examine him. But mystery-cigarette-hook-hands was a funny guy and the style of the game is fresh and beautiful.
5 stars on theme and graphics!
Runs smoothly in bsnes. I like it that it's a real NES game. I think the art is appropriate for the limitiations posed by a NES.
Good work!
Dafuq have I just played? Hilarious! The expression on her face!
This came is very complete and polished and was a lot of fun. Runs smoothly on Linux.
Really cool lighting and visuals in general. Really hard game. I liked it a lot though, I just seem to suck at it :-(
Nice game. I like the music and the visuals. The input was a bit problematic for me, though: Letting the drill drill continuously instead of having to click several times would be a big improvement. Or is there such a powerup later on? Only made it so cave B6...
The other thing is the collision response, it feels like the player is sticking to the walls and hitting small corridors is quite difficult. Had a similar problem on my game, so I know how hard this can be :D
580m :-)
5 perfect skips right at the beginning made my stone fly off-screen :D
It looks really beautiful as well. Only point of critique is that there is no real progression in difficulty (or none that I could detect at least). One of the coolest games for me so far!
I am not so sure what I am supposed to do. Not even sure whether I am doing well or not. But the style and music are cool. Might need some kind of feedback on how well one is doing.
Really enjoyed it. It's a bit glitchy here and there (once fell through the floor in the underground, jumped out of the top screen of the screen -> window turns black), but really cute character, really love how happy she looks when she's running.
Good job!
Couldn't get a single treasure either :-( besides that it looks like a solid game.
I liked how the mood suddenly changes when Jacob realizes his situation. The music and video glitches afterwards really gave me a sense of haste :D
Also the voice-over caught me off guard. Really good job!
Couldn't really find out what I was supposed to do. Jumped all the way to the right, nothing there, searched the whole level, still nothing there :-(
But I liked the music and the camera handling!
The jumping felt a bit weird, but liked it all in all.
The music is awesome. Not a big fan of running games, but this one had something.
Such a cute happy ending :D
MAN. The game's name is so much win. Can't play it now, because I don't have windows machine. Will install wine later and try it out. Definitely on my need-to-test list :)
No rating so far, will do it later!
Nice game. I found it a bit too hard, but that's only me. The graphics really support the gameplay and the music is perfect for this type of game!
I really like Kafka. So disturbing. I haven't read this one yet, will probably do it soon, but then in German :-)
Sweet pixel art!
Wow, best game so far. I usually don't like stealth games, but this one really captivated me. The last "real" level was quite hard for me, but I kept trying.
You could really turn this into something. The beginning of the story is very promising. To bad 48h is so little time, the ending is really poor :-p
Only thing I'd change: allow to hold the space bar to skip multiple turns.
Also, I never needed the Dash and Bell abilities, but this might change with even more complex levels.
Really good work!
Really nice entry!
DAT SHARK! Loved the look in his eyes. Hilarious :D
Nice, solid game!
Nice idea. Looked great too. Just the wave might need a few more details. All in all cool entry :-)
Seems like a solid adaptation of Asteroids. Not sure what to do with the cheese ball (kill it? protect it?) and no score make it hard to judge how well I was doing though ;-)
WetDesertRock: Oopsie. I think I can reconstruct the genesis of this bug ;-) I wanted to call the game 800bar in the beginning but when I made the title screen, I figured that it looked to much like Boo Bar in the font I used, so I changed it to 900 and forgot to change it everywhere else, including my own mind.
This may be on of the most embarrassing bugs in video game history. Interesting how nobody noticed it before you :D
mortus: <3
Probably the hardest game I played in a long time. And the one spent most time on in this LD. Nice work. Didn't even know you could tessellate a sphere like this. Great job, full Innovation score :)
Sometimes balls come from the exact opposite direction at exactly the same time :-(
I had fun for a while though. Keep going!
Nice little game. I like the art style, very cute. As other have mentioned, the controls are a bit weird and the mole gets stuck every once in a while.
You should make the spikes hurt the mole, because I was trapped beneath the chest on the left side. Had to restart :-(
Cool idea. You should drop Planetary Resources a mail about the torpedo drill :D
Like the gameplay a lot. Easy to understand, hard to master, as it should be :-) And really smooth (except for my virtual machine that ruins the day when the blur/screen shake kick in). One of the best entries so far!
I like how you state Bohr's atomic model as one of your tools :3
I don't agree. There is a slight progression in difficulty in the game. The distance between sharks and Piranhas (?) is getting smaller and smaller.
Super cute animations (I especially like the seagull) and the sounds are so authentically retro. Almost feels like playing an Atari 2600 again :-)
Great job!
I like the bacteria. Just reproduce and reproduce :D
Interesting idea that could probably actually be turned into an educational game with some more work. A bit hard to understand the mechanics though. A word of introduction or a tutorial might be needed.
I gave for 4 stars for innovation and theme!
Even better, embed it in a web page and upload this to dropbox.
I got stuck after hitting the first heart, in the screen that says "Hit z while running to get a new cigarette" or similar. From what I've seen so far, it's a very unique style and idea!
Really liked the feel of the game before the first enemy appeared. Couldn't for the heck of it kill him. Just too hard an enemy for the beginning.
But the feel of the physics is really great. Not sure about the theme though, but would probabaly be more obvious later on, I guess.
I do also think that everything that was "done" to him was necessary. They would be completely unable to do anything if he wasn't being pushed and stones dropped "onto" him (I rather felt it like dropping a stone behind him).
Everything he does to her is completely unnecessary and just for his own satisfaction and anger.
I liked the way the twist was foreshadowed and he became more and more obsessive and aggressive.
I never thought too much about the topic besides a generic "be nice to your partner and every human being in general" attitude. Luckily I never had to deal with the topic myself nor do I know anyone who has or had the problem (at least none that I know of). The game made me really think about the issue.
The moment the mood changes was probably the most intense moment I ever experienced in a game, perfectly orchestrated visuals and music and such a strong message.
Thank you very much for making this game. I hope many people outside the Ludum Dare world see and play it.
The music is great. The game itself... hard to tell. Didnt really get harder until I couldn't shoot anymore.
I like the looks and style of this very much. Nice game, only, as other noted already, not much new gameplay, but the game was still fun!
Cool idea. The controls are a bit difficult, but I guess that's part of the game ;-)
Nice interpretation of the theme and looks good!
I liked the simplicity and the unique style and ideas. Was there a progression in difficulty? I didn't notice one, so I stopped after a while. Besides that, cool entry!
Very hard levels, but so cute characters and beautiful style. Didn't experience any sound lag in the web version.
Nice little game!
Really nice take on the topic, first time I give 5 stars in this category this LD. I also like the disturbing feeling it produces and the totally mad world that lies beneath the surface of our own.
After 4 tries I actually became the eyeball king \o/
Found a few bugs (you probably know them already, but meh): 1. you can collect the coins multiple times by entering the house for a short while again. 2. The don't doors seem to be linked correctly.
Congrats on your first LD submission!
Wow, completely different. So calm and gentle. Also the colour composition is really nice.
Probably not my kind of game :-( Don't like the grinding aspect of it. Made it only to "You're a Human". No idea where it leads, but I lost interest :-(
So intense. I can almost feel their fear. Great game.
First innovative game I found :-)
A bit hard, didn't do all too well. Art style matches the game. Very well done!
Nice interpretation of the theme. Also loved the art style.
Not really sure what to do here. Is this some kind of maze with invisible walls? Couldn't get very far in either direction :-(
Runs smoothly in wine. Very hard, even with the instructions I didn't manage to get very far :-(
I like how fast paced it is and hwo the theme is approached.
The pixel art looks nice, but the music makes this game great. Nice level design ideas with trapping the trolls so they push buttons for us :-)
Best entry I played so far!
Sound and graphics are so retro :-) I love it. Very hectic and the guys in robes are really creepy...
Wow.
Such a great game. Also it contains one of my favourite poems. So strong. I just wonder what made Wilma leave the hut. (Or are there other endings?)
So, lots of stars for this game!
The placement of the blocks is a bit hard to get right. Also coupling it with the number of extra lives made them badly usable for me :-(
But I really like the idea in itself and the graphics were cool and novel.
Wow, such a great game. Perfect style, so cute characters, nice "story". It was a bit easy for my taste, but that way at least I had a chance to complete it :D
Of course! Salami! What else would provide a similar thrust per weight ratio!
Nice drawing, cute story!
Someone got inspired by Fez it seams ;-)
Cool use of the theme and cool graphics!
I have no idea what I am doing: http://postimg.org/image/c8asga10v
Very cool new mechanics, like the recoloring and transportation of portals. The visual style is just stunning. But just as in my game, the movement is just to fast and abrupt. One of the best games of this LD!
Also, I had to restart the whole game once, when restarting the level put me in a place where I couldn't move over and over again. Can't exactly tell which world it was though. I was stuck in a gate in the top right hand side though.
This reminds me to start working on my own raycaster game again. I will totally steal your aiming mechanism for it.
Cool puzzle mechanics and nice visuals!
Ha, nice idea idea. I liked the cat aliens, though the end was a bit evil (why were there no cats in the first world?)
As others have pointed out, the controls feel like ice skating and I have died plenty of times because of them. But all in all I really enjoyed the game!
Oh, btw. it runs nicely on Linux with wine.
Nice! Mouse controls could be a bit less sensitive and it could use some sound, but besides that really cool game. Had a lot of 90's flair.
Can't play either: http://hastebin.com/qasamalazu.hs
Drop me a mail at rnlf (at) base13 (dot) de
Worked now! Thanks for your mail. The art is really impressive. Cool Trek references.
Dammit. Had to ragequit on level 5. After finally managing to get past the spikes-on-a-block TWICE in level 4 and finally jumping over the many-spikes-on-a-huge-block in level 5, when I saw the passage between two blocks was only one block wide... no thank you, I'll keep what's left of my sanity.
This game is way addictive. Like flappy bird on crack. The art just looks amazing (I love how the hero runs and jumps!)
After about half an hour of going crazy, I had to restart the browser to get rid of lag that was building up more and more. Probably a flash problem, but maybe you can do something about it, no idea.
One of the coolest games in this compo so far! (Oh, thanks for the mute button, even a great soundtrack like this gets annoying after a few million times ;-))
I think I am too stupid to solve this game. Also for some reason switching the character didn't work for me (the desktop version crashed when starting the level).
But I really like the style (so beautiful!) and the improvement on the general Sokoban gameplay.
Also so much polish for a compo game. You actually made me google OpenDyslexia and find out how it helps people. Nice one!
Not really a game, but I'd give you 6 mood stars if only I could... Really beautiful graphics and sound!
Finally a Unity game that with a correctly labelled Web entry and that has unique style and doesn't look like crap. Well done!
The game was really fun but a bit hard to control sometimes, especially the jumps. Also A/Z doesn't really work well on non English keyboard layouts.
But I really enjoyed it!
It looks really beautiful, but I it's so hard. I only managed to get past the lava level by using your cheaty version. And I could only solve the robot level by keeping out of sight of the robots and firing blindly. The dragon kept killing me over and over again, he should only fire after a second after respawn or something like that.
But it looks so beautiful!
Please turn this into a full game! Music, art and sound are really cool.
I have the same bug with the boy disappearing in the second level :-(
Up to that point the game was really beautiful. Really cute story so far, need to find out how it's gonna end. I sure hope for a happy ending for them.
There are many "play-to-characters-with-the-same-commands" this LD, but this is the most beautifully made one I have seen yet!
Way too difficult for me, but it felt pretty smooth and innovative!
Such a weird place. Really dream like. So nice to look at!
Looks nice, but the platforming is really hard, even harder than in my game :-p
Wow... this is so good looking. And the music is great as well. Too bad you had to cut out a lot, would have loved to play the whole game.
Yay, Tera made a friend :-)
Cool and different game.
Looks nice and solid gameplay. Good job! Would have loved sound though.
I played for half an hour and I'm not sure I understood the different behaviors. In the end I got good scores, but it was more intuition than knowledge ;-)
I like the music a lot. I matches the theme of your game perfectly and the game has a great mood.
The lighting is really cool.
@intelligentbean: same. It makes me want to grab an old 2600 and play same games :D
This game is stunning, given it was made by a nine year old. I bet in a few years you will kick us all out of the competition.
Hi pjimmy, you need love 0.9.1. Older versions don't work. You can use the windows version that includes love 0.9.1 (does also run in wine)
Sorry, I have not encountered that problem and can't reproduce. But thanks for trying to play the game :-(
I like to think of them as hellhounds. But I agree that they do not look very much like hellhounds.
@dook, haha thanks. It was not part of the actual game (because of lack of time to add a real intro), so I am not sure that is actually fair, but thank you :D
Sorry about the problems some people have. I don't have computer with Vista, so no idea what to do about it. If you can describe the problem any further, maybe we can work something out, @zeal.
Concerning the slowness of the game on some machines... I have no idea, but some people over in the IRC channel say it could have to do with some GPUs having performance issues with alphablending and shaders. So maybe an unlucky combination of Love2D's shaders and my game code break it for some people. Very sorry about that :-(
commodoreKid, the gun is the thing directly behind the first gate in Jessie's world...
Spaceboat, yeah? Cool idea!
I like your pixel art.
Very interesting gameplay. I had fun!
Without the hint in the screenshots, I would have never been able to solve the yellow room. That one was hard. I tried so many things for more than two hours. I have never spent so much time on a compo game...
This is probably the smartest use of the theme I have seen so far and one of the smartest puzzle games I have ever played. Just wow...
Can't play because it requires the Unity Plugin which is not available for Linux. Please don't just tag it "Web", but something like "Web (Unity)". And provide a standalone version if possible.
Dafuq have I just played ^_^? By far the trippiest thing I've seen in a long time. Made me laugh hard.
Even for the jam this is quite impressive. Cool graphics and sound. Really enjoyed it!
Oh LOL. The ending is SO f'ing great. Laughed really hard.
Also, really sweet pixel art and music. Only thing I'd change is to use some pixely font for the dialogs that matches the rest of the visuals better, but besides that, a really sweet game.
The game looks and sounds really cool. I found it a bit hard to control precisely enough to avoid getting pierced in tight areas, could not get past level 2 after trying several times.
But really nice looks!
Cool graphics and sound, solid gameplay.
Nice setting! Not sure why I needed the newspaper for the glass shards though. I was quite a bit shocked when the shotgun guy suddenly stood in front of me!
Please don't tag Unity Web Versions as "Web". Please use "Web (Unity)". There are a lot of people out there who cannot play Unity Web games. Also, please provide native versions for other OSs if possible.
Cool graphics and I love the speech synth :D
I don't think I am smart enough for this, but the idea is really novel and looks nice!
The beginning was real hard, but after a while the tree and rabbit population just took off and from then on it became a bit too easy. Also, was it on purpose that the "You Won" was (still) upside down?
The rotating background made me a bit dizzy after a while. I liked the idea of the game, maybe with more factors and a stronger "balance" between those this could become a really cool game.
The game was a bit easy, but I think maybe that's part of the message you're trying to convey. How easy it is to pollute the air.
Cool looking for such a simple interface. Also the sad music fits the message perfectly.
Just not sure how it fits the theme...
Wow, weird hard. "It's meant to be that way" - yeah sure, lame excuse :-p
Made it through level 1, level 2 was unbeatable for me. But it sure looks and sounds cool and if it was just a tad easier, it would be a lot of fun.
Pretty cool idea with the gravity changing! It was really cool jumping from one planet to the other and dodging enemies that way.
Only thing I have to criticize is a missing mouse lock. I accidentally switched out of the game by clicking outside the window. Other than that, really cool. Almost as many bullets as my own entry, and way better physics than I have :-p
Wow, this is a very unique style. You might want to build upon this thing and sell it. Very well done!
Cute story and love how parts of the story were presented between the levels.
The only thing I didn't like was that T-94 let got of walls immediately when not pushing against the wall anymore. That way performing well timed jumps was a bit hard. Would definitely be even more fun if you would stick to the wall a short while after stopping to push against it.
Otherwise, a great game. Oh and the blue bucket was invisible.
A bit hard to play for people with non-english keyboard layouts, but really nice fighting!
Cool game! Too bad it has such a dramatic bad ending :-(
Hey, people keep telling me my platformer physics is always to slippery. And then you come along and make a game out of it. Well played ;-)
Nice art and style, I like the burning animation. Nice shortcut in level 15 as well ;-)
Very good entry!
Great music and as always perfect visuals!
This game is crazy hard! But it looks pretty damn hot and seems to be well polished! Good job!
Cool idea. I like the voiceover a lot.
And thank you for playing my game. I answered to your comment on my game over at its entry page. You didn't break it, you just missed something. Maybe you want to give it another try ;-)
The music is really beefy!
I thought it was a bit irritating that the whole game is played with the keyboard but I had to click with the mouse to start it. I first thought it was broken...
Pretty crazy game. Why can't I vote for this?
After the explanation you gave me about the audio thing and replaying it, the game appeared even more impressive. Really like the idea of in-game music synthesis. The sound effects are so kick-ass!
Writing that framework sure paid off. Too bad you didn't have the time to implement all the features you planned to add, but aside from the minor feel of incompleteness in some spots, this is still one of the most impressive entries I've seen so far.
Haha, "dead pixel". Nice idea :-)
Good job! I like the real Atari feel that this game produces. It's fast paced, well balanced and sounds amazingly good.
Really cool idea with the different dice. I could imagine this being made into a real board game and actually paying money for it. Maybe you should try to make a deal with Hasbro or so...
Also that must be some pretty heavy dice with all the screenshake :-D
Pretty hard game, but a cool concept. Making citicens and vibrants a bit bigger could solve that problem.
The game looks pretty good and was fun to play!
Runs smoothly on my HTC One. It was fun an challenging. Only Google+ was a bit annoying. I like it minimal look ab feel!
It was a bit (much) laggy when I tried it with some guys from #ludumdare.
I think this game would be a lot of fun if it wasn't for the lag.
I'll rate as if it wasn't laggy ;-)
Nice one :-) I like the feel of the game and the take on the theme is at least not as obvious as most others (mine included).
I like how you use your voice to make all the sounds. When in the Game Over screen, enemies should not spawn. When I was trying to type my comment here it was like "Swooooosh!!!" all the time. But that's just a problem with the new integrated web games thing, can't blame you for it.
I found one input bug though: Sometimes, when pressing one of the direction keys at the wrong time during restart of the level, my helicopter accelerated indefinitely in one direction until it crashed :-(
It felt almost like playing the original Mario Bros. :-)
I like retro post effects, but this game was actually more fun when I disabled it.
Pretty cool take on this quite old genre. I like the way physics were added to the gameplay. The music is awesome too!
This is the funniest game I have seen in this jam so far. I think the music is contrasting the wiggly movement of the player character really nicely. Good job!
This game looks really amazingly good. Especially given that most ingame objects are only 6 or so pixels high. I like the way several levels were put into a single screen, really nice.
It was a bit easy to beat in my opinion, but a really good game!
Cool thing. Took me a while to figure out how what was going on, but I like the "whole galaxy on one screen" connection to the theme!
Looks and sounds beautiful!
Really cool concept! Tried a few times, but either the acid or hypoxia kills my dwarfes :-( Space is hard.
I made it home, I win! Looks very cute. "Hairdryer uses himself on you". Oh boy...
Very nice take on this particular kind of genre. It plays really well and the looks and sound fit very nicely into the gameplay. Good job!
I really enjoy the on TV feeling of this entry. I think the audience is pretty cool, especially when they cheer at me for finding the way to the first switch on the second height-level.
I had to quit though, I couldn't figure it out after 20 minutes :-(
Sound and visuals are very strong!
This game looks nice. The "Get Ready" message takes a bit long though.
The pixel art ist really good looking and these are probably the scariest snowmen I've ever seen. A health indicator would have been useful.
Perfect entry, as usual. You know what they say: "Linking deepnight is SO mainstream".
I really enjoyed the visual effect when the target was hit. The mechanics were really smooth and playable. As some have already stated, a more elastic, or heavy tail would make swinging it more useful and fun.
The difficulty curve went up a bit steep for my taste.
All in all a good entry.
@CMWeissMedia, yeah, I was lacking the time to run "physics" with a really fixed timestep, which becomes a problem if the machine the game runs on is a bit too slow. If you reduce shadow quality, it might actually become fast enough to play it without this glitch. Sorry about that!
@rjhunter: "Configurable controls, in-game tutorial that responds to the configured controls" - thank you for noticing :-)
@tompudding: No, you can enter the room. I know which door you are talking about, and once you get a key, it is never removed from your inventory. Maybe you just missed one other key ;-)
Looks really awesome! Nice one-button gameplay!
Wow. Like always, a huge hit. I like what you did with the "floor". I made it all the way to the end :-)
But is there a way to get the stick below the level before one learned to fly?
I actually thought of something similar at first, but I thought, eh, that'll look like crap. You proved me wrong. Good for you. Bad for me ;-)
Also I wouldn't have made such a winner out of it. Full Score!
Interesting connection to the theme! The game is a bit easy, but with more levels that would probably change.
The visuals are stunning and look pretty fresh. Like them a lot. In the game itself, there is sadly not much to do.
Cannot run it on Windows 7 with Oracle JRE 6: "Could not find the main class: abcd3901.main.Init. Program will exit."
What Java version to I need to run this?
Pretty cool game. The pixel art is really sweet. It was double hard on a german keyboard, so I had to switch my layout to english. Then it was a quite enjoyable game :-)
Wow, a lot of features for a compo game. I thought it was a bit unfair that the first shooting enemy also hat much more hit points than the previous enemies. Had fun with this game!
As many others before, I didn't see the connection to the theme and thought it was a pretty hard game. I love the graphics style (I thought, sure looks like Waterfly Octus, just to find out a few minutes later that it was actually made by you, good thing to have a recognisable personal style! I wish I had one).
I only ever made it to the part shortly after the snowmen that you have to land pretty close to and then slash. Checkpoints would have helped a lot, especially sind it got a bit laggy after replaying it several times. I will now try your updated version, I sure want to see the end ;-)
Cool game. With some more polish I would even pay a Dollar or so on the Play Store. Good work!
Dear fellow vim user ;-)
Really cool game. I was surprised when those friggin' snowmen fired back at me. I liked the game a lot! Sweet sprite work!
Too bad you didn't finish. It looks awesome and what is there of the gameplay looks very promising.
Can I haz post compo version, plz?
There might be nothing there to do in this game, BUT I made several games already and when I first tried to implement platformer physics, I failed miserably. So props to that. Just keep going and next time you'll have a full game!
This game looks really good, even for a Jam entry, where expectactions are usually a bit higher. This game is really fun, but also a bit hard. I'm not a big fan of the bullet-hell-style gameplay beginning with level 2, but that's just me. Good job!
I really like the variation you made on pong. Really cool idea with the powerups and stuff!
Too bad you couldn't finish it. It was so thrilled with the look and sound of the game that I was actually a bit disappointed when it was over so quickly. Good work and good luck on finishing next time!
Cool game. A bit easy to beat and sound would have been a big plus. I really liked how the level unfolded section after section. Good work!
Too bad they don't let me drink at work in real life. Ballmer Peak didn't really convince my boss :-p
Really funny idea, full innovation score, thats for sure :-)
Being 1/4 Belgian I really like the Brussels Reference in the Name :3
Nicely done! Reminds me a bit of my own game, just that you can't die in mine ;-)
Very good job, it really feels like being in a dark maze, even though it's a top down perspective.
Wow, looks and sounds amazing. Pretty hard though, in almost 20 minutes play time I only made it to ONE other camp fire ONCE. I actually felt lost, when I played this. Very good!
Tried it on android. The controls need a bit much of finger-movement. Nice interpretation of the theme!
This looks amazing. The gameplay principle is the same as in my game, but your's sure looks and sounds better.
Did you forget to remove some debug code? When I *cough* accidentally *cough* used the keypad to navigate, the cube rotated wildly and I could run into the void.
But I really enjoyed this. Would love to see it made into a full game!
I really liked the music and sound!
I *really* love your graphics style. I wish mine was as as beautiful. The game is a lot of fun, too! I liked it a lot to put one arrow through a whole army of bad guys!
It lacks a bit of polish, but who's game doesn't in the compo :3
Wow, really cool game. I REALLY like the sound design and gameplay. Very well done!
Nice idea! Plays quite well and looks good. Only the controls are a bit awkward, couldn't really get used to them :-(
I get the same error as vrld. Also tried recompiling, didn't help.
I am running kernel 3.16.0 amd64, X.org 1.16.2 RC1, nvidia drivers 340.46 if that is any help.
Wow. This game is actually pretty hard and a worthy prequel to One TAKE ;-)
Feels almost like the incredible machine! Very well done. A bit hard to play, but it was fun!
I was looking for your entry because I remembered the music of Ripple Runner. Then I saw the screenshots and thought "well, doesn't look like much", but BOY WAS I WRONG.
The graphics are working great with that game and HOLY CRAP THE MUSIC! You did not disappoint me!
Really good game and very clever use of the simple game elements!
Oh well. I didn't expect that. I chose the black character from the beginning and thought "why the hell does that matter?". Then I played the game and thought you had actually a bug in the code, because it was so amazingly hard to play (I had already forgotten about the character I had chosen) and wanted to complain about that in the comments. Then I read your description of the game, retried and for the first time selected the white character to see if it got easier. Had I seen the "Sorry, this character is not playable" message before, I might have understood it or I might have thought "too bad the game was not finished in time".
But then I (finally) understood. Then I noticed the title of the game.
Myself being a straight, white man "in his best years" in a country with a white majority, it is hard to notice all the privileges one hase (and simply the personal rights that practically always respected by authorities and other people).
As someone who tries to learn to notice the differences in treatment depending on skin color, gender or sexual orientation and reads a lot about the topic, I thought "oh, I am so educated on the topic, I would see the problem immediately". Thanks for putting me straight! I think this is a very important "game". Everyone should play it. It's just a "game" and I can't imagine how frustrating and frightening this problem must be for people who have to face it in real life.
Besides that, it is beautifully made and the writing is (depressingly) good and authentic.
Thanks for making this game! And thanks for trying to run my game and commenting on it, even though it didn't run on your machine.
Yes, really cool thing to use an actual DRADIS screen ;-)
Being a command line junkie myself, this was much to my taste!
Good work!
I really like this game. It is hard as hell, though. But I liked it the first time I saw it on the blog :-)
Pretty cool game. The collisions seem to be off a bit on my machine, where bullets (including the first bosses lasers) would just go through solid tiles.
The game itself is really cool, nice music, perfect for the setting of the game and your pixel style is very inspiring to me, might totally try to copy that for my own games :-p
Looking really sweet, as usual! Took me a while to get used to the gameplay, but after that, it was a lot of fun.
The boss fight took very long and I had to retry several times until I noticed there's a glitch in the game that makes it a bit easier (muahaha).
Very good entry!
Pretty cool idea and I honestly envy you for how good the controls feel and react. I wish I knew how to get such slick controls!
All I wonder is how this connects with the theme? Seems more like "Connected Worlds" (LD30) to me. Still an amazing job!
Really good game! I like the graphics and music. The gameplay is great, too.
Whenever I pressed X+Z at the same time though, she would jump instead of throwing, I always had to press Z first, hold, and then X.
I accidentally threw one dinosaur out of the level so that I couldn't reach him anymore. But given the time constraint there are always some bugs of this kind, my own game is plagued by that too :3
This is anyway one of the better games in the Jam and I had a lot of fun! Good Work!
Hilarious storyline. It's a bit short, but besides that, good job!
I have to say your visual style was indeed very Fez-y this time, but we all love Fez, so that's no problem at all!
This game is a piece of art, I love the calm and clear music with crystal clear pixel art. I like the shockwave effect a lot. Was this made with your software renderer framework btw?
First I tried to play with some tactics, but that made me the worst stone fighter in the world (good idea to be mean to your players == voters, btw ;-)), then I just pushed the stone forward without stopping and made it to the princess.
The idea is great, the music is awesome and the lighting effects are nice to look at! Just the level design might need some tweaking to make better use of the idea. Good entry!
This is one of the coolest games I've seen so far. The soundtrack is *amazing* and the design is very neat. Gameplay is perfectly balanced (a bit hard though, since I played in hardcore mode on a touchpad, not your fault, I guess).
If I had to name one thing to improve, the acceleration is a bit to fast so that fine-tuning your position is a bit difficult. And that's about all I can complain about. I ragequit on floor 25 though...
I actually saw you screenshots during the Compo and wanted to play it from the first second!
Also thank you for your comments on my game!
Pretty cool game! It sometimes reminded me of cartoon scenes where people run after other people, then they run off the screen and return in reverse order but the hunted now has a baseball bat or something. The music really helped with that impression :D
Cool design and great playability. It was a bit easy though, but I know how hard level design can be in this limited time. Too bad it doesn't have sound effects, that's the only real critique I have... 20 minutes with jfxr and that problem would have been solved. You missed an opportunity there. But besides that, I've given you lots of stars! Keep up the good work.
Most appripriate use of pink in a platformer ever!
Cool mechanics and cute look. Loving it. In one place suddenly hundreds of big "Becky can fly inside them" Bubbles appeared instead of one, had to restart the game at that point :-(
But besides that, a very solid entry. Good work!
I really liked this, it didn't look like much, but there's a message behind it and that's always something I enjoy. The end killed it a bit for me though. Would have preferred if both would survive and.
Nice, small entry with a message!
So cute and the way the mouse talks, so funny :D
The amount of polish in this game is amazing. Very good work!
Wow, this game is awesome! Music and visual fit so perfectly together and the gameplay feels very retro and fun.
It's pretty hard, but really well done!
This is a really unique and really great game! I made it to stage 8, but was unable to finish it due to my only negative remark about this game: selecting the target to lock on is next to impossible and you only see what kind of target you have selected when the palyer ship turns towards it. Getting out of the danger zone with heavy fire is almost impossible. My suggestion would be to allow free flight and use a button to lock onto the enemy closest to the center of screen.
But besides that: I loved this game! It looks really, really cool, with it's very unique elements, the audio is very good, the gameplay idea is great, was is the the use of the theme.
Very good work!
The game itself is pretty cool, but somehow I couldn't get the inputs to work correctly. My keyboard seems to have problems with left, up and space being used at the same time, so that I could not use speed boost and steer left at the right time. My XBox-Controller allowed steering, but I was unable to map any of the other functions to the controller. In fact, at first I didn't even notice there was speedboost and dodging, so my highscore of 21.021 was achieved without either ;-)
Nonetheless, the game was very cool, especially how the obstacles vibrate with the beat! Very, very cool. The visuals fit the game perfectly. And well... the interpretation of the theme is even for me a bit too lax, but still a great game!
It looks quite nice and plays very smooth. Is there anything you can do to avoid being hit by the Tommy Gun Skeletons? Not sure what the letters were ment to say. I had fun while playing this.
Pretty good game! It has a unique look and gameplay. I had fun playing it. I would have liked the controls to be relative to the ships orientation, i.e. "up" always being "forward", or even gamepad support, but besides that, very cool!
Heck, this game looks amazing! It was fun to play, too. The lighting is just perfect, so beautiful!
The physics were a bit nasty here and there (my little heroine got stuck at the edges of objetcs like between the two wings of the trap door in the boss fight), but that's really #firstworldproblems. This is an excellent game and you should be proud!
This looks so gorgeous! It plays pretty smooth too, the take on the theme is great and the audio tops it off. Controls are pretty tight.
It was a bit hard to get into the right rhythm to use the bullet time bullet control, but's probably intended.
Fantastic game!
Cool atmosphere. It does indeed remind me of teleglitch! The mood is really dark. Good job!
Cool looking game as usual! Sweet character design! Not much else to say. Fun ending.
I've so far been unable to solve the mystery, but the game is pretty well made. I love the music and the somewhat dreamlike art style.
Cool game, gave me a retro flashback. The music is very cool. I did not really understand how up- and downgrading the weapon worked and I really wish wouldn't consider autofire cheating, as you said on IRC :D
I had a lot of fun playing this!
I even reduced the difficulty last minute before submitting by removing some very hard jumps in the level. I hope you can finish it! It has a second sound track (which is even worse than the first, I promise!)
Oh btw, the first checkpoint is right when you enter the cave, which is right behind the first lava lake...
Tijn, the jump is possible, just very hard. I might release a simplified post compo version tomorrow. Stay tuned ;-)
plams, if the timer ran out, you sadly didn't make it ;-)
@phi6: good to hear :D
Sticky hands porn program :D And it looks cool. Very good entry!
Very nice, calm game. Reminds me of a sunrise in spring.
I am not sure how killing birds fits into that image, but from a gameplay standpoint it worked well. Tried it on Android 5.0, works like a charm!
Good entry!
Cool game! It certainly looks and sounds amazing and the weapon is really unconventional.
The level design could use a bit more work though. The first falling level and the last level were both a bit too hectic for my taste.
Anyway, one of the really good games this LD!
Really not bad, especially for a sixteen year old. Gets very difficult after a while!
Another masterpiece. Not quite as innovative as Hopslide and not as polished and perfectly acurately controllable as Birdsong, but still one of the best games around.
With a few flaws ironed out (controls are very hard, even with an xbox controller) and more levels I would even pay money for this!
The controls are difficult with the auto-grab-on to walls and the quite fast horizontal acceleration, but that's about all I can complain about and that's just du say something besides "great game", which it surely is!
Really, really cool game! The mechanics remind me a bit of Pid, but in a good and different way! I like the (almost) monochrome art style (for some reason Unity didn't allow my native resolution, which blurred the display a bit, but I guess that's not your fault).
It could have used a few more checkpoints, but besides that, very good entry and great level design.
Such a fun idea! I like the evil look on the attackers' faces.
The difficulty curve seemed a bit to nonlinear for me... first nothing happens, then suddenly a rush of enemies coming in without a break. They should stay grouped in waves or something like that or form recognizable patterns that one could memorize the combinations for. The way it is now, I had to spam the ground with all I had.
Anyway, great game!
Cool gameplay and the weapon is really unconventional. Nice mix between Sokoban and Snake! Made it to level 6, then had to give up after an hour or so. Good work!
Cool weapon! I like the idea of restoring color in the dungeon. It plays pretty smooth to.
Good take on the theme. The game is pretty hard, but managable. Very eerie.
The art in this game is just amazing, visuals and audio! But it is so hard that after half an hour I was still unable to hit the enemy even once. Good game, just way to hard for me.
Cool game and sad ending (I suspect there is only one?). Like the presentation. Good entry!
Such a funny idea! I like the way you did the tutorial! The game itself looks good and is fun to play. Good job!
Wow, frustratingly hard, just like my game :-p
The art is very well made, I cannot believe the chopper has been made during the compo! Very cool!
Also a very depressing setting. Good work!
Finally had time to play it some more, this evening. As I mentioned earlier, the music is just amazing. Knowing how much work that must have been makes it even better.
I couldn't really figure out how to vote to win, because I could not remember what I had voted and what results that created though. I am bad at memorizing stuff :-(
I think the art style is just right for this kind of game, does not distract from the music and is still nice to look at.
Very good first entry, way better than my first entry and it even feels more coherent and thought out than what I make today!
Keep it up!
Looks very nice and plays pretty smooth. Could use a checkpoint after each room, very frustrating not to beat the first big enemy and then having to start all over. That's why I quit in this level. But I made the same mistake (to few checkpoints) so who am I to complain :-)
Besides that it's a great game!
Cool idea for the unconventional weapon! Not sure if I did it right and this is intentional, but it is perfectly possible to fly any direction with the telenade! Lovely graphics and cool mechanics, what else do you need?
Nice variant of the fruit ninja type gameplay. Pretty hard though, but with some training manageable!
Nice look and feel!
Fun little game with very cute art. Like it!
Crazy game idea: Check
Hipster Clichés: Check
Funny soundtrack: Check
Good looking art: Check
Very cool game!
GREAT GAME! At first I thought it was a bit hard, but then I learned you could always react in time if you know how the Bro's attack begins. The Chopper Bro made me rage anyway :D
Beat him in the end though. Cool visuals, cool use of theme, cool gameplay. As I said, great game!
As a big fan of the space shuttle, this game was a really great find for me. I like the sprites and the upgrades that made me play on and on.
I would have wished for some structure in the background though as a reference frame for my motion when going up or down.
I really like your interpretation of the theme. I've saved the quote for future reference ;-)
Very cool idea! It's pretty hard to come up with words fast enough, especially if it's not your native language, but that's cool :-)
As always really fantastic soundtrack. I played for more than half an hour now and didn't get past a score of 7 though. Maybe the input lag is too high on my virtual machine. Will try it on a real PC later.
Very cool idea!
Graphics and audio are really cool. I had some problems with the physics though. Stacking more than 3 stones made the lowest one warp through the floor.
Also "Press [A] you degenerate" made me almost quit the game, because it was actually X. Not everybody has a controller ;-)
Looks cool as always! And it has the stereotypical, unforgiving, patented bitslap difficulty. I have made it to the first (?) reachable toolbox after a million tries. Is there a way to reach those near the beginning? Especially the one right above the spawn?
I'll give it a try in a few days. Somehow I felt like jump and shoot need to be swapped... couldn't get my fingers adjusted to this layout for some reason.
The most fun game I have seen so far! It plays perfectly smooth, the sound effects are perfect and even the take on the theme is fun!
Congratulations!
As already mentioned on IRC, I think you can make something nice out of this prototype. If it had the features you had planned, it would be an awesome game. I'm giving you some extra Overall points for the potential.
As for your question, why not both?
Not sure if I made it to the end... I found three humans...
The controls were pretty hard, we were used to it in the early 90s, but we are spoiled by mouse look ;-)
I liked the raycasted look (but it's not a real raycaster, right?) and the color selection. Very good game!
What a cool game! Maybe the most fun I had with any LD game so far. At first I felt like it got easier with time, but when I ran out of time several times in a row I noticed I was wrong.
Pretty cool to finish a level running on fumes :-) "Fire the nukes", so funny over the top :D
The music was very fitting, even if I had never thought of a piano tune :-)
My best combo was 32 with 22.8s airtime :-)
Hey, cool little game with a nice idea for the theme. Reminded me of that one Doctor Who episode.
The pixel art is cool. I got some flickering at the tile borders, I think you should round your camera position before rendering the tiles.
The game would have been perfect with sound and simple music. But even without, really great :-)
I had to play it 7 times to find all the endings. Really good work. Glad to see another point and click adventure. The art is amazing!
Fun idea and cool graphics and sounds! The game got a bit laggy after a whilel (Firefox 39).
Made it only to wave 5 after several tries :-(
Haha, reminds me not to get children. Ever. Cool idea and interpretation of the theme and really cute art style!
Oh, such a cool idea! With everything running in reverse, even the world counter!
I'm really impressed!
The intro alone is worth a million points :)
Really cool! Knowing how much work it is to make something for such an old architecture makes it even more stunning. Gave me a nice Starfox/Starwing flashback.
I swapped the controls in pcsxr.
I should find out how to mod my PSX to run this game natively...
Okay, I ragequit after failing in the fourth sector for the bazillionth time.
I really, really, really like the visual representation, with the footsteps and the attack feels pretty smooth, and the sounds fit all that very nicely.
If I had two tiny improvementt out of dangerous situations. I died a lot of time because the collision handling slowed me down too much. Second, the foot marks seem to move to fast for the actual movement speed.
But I *really* enjoyed this game. I will come back to finish it, once the rage is gone :-)
Looks really cool and the music is pretty nice.
I really liked this game! It looks awesome, it feels awesome and even the simple sound effects match the rest awesomely.
The levels were well balanced, maybe a tad to easy.
One tiny complaint though, Z/X forced me to install a second keyboard layout. Please consider using something more international next time.
Besides that, really, really great game!
The animations are really, really smooth. Like them a lot. I wish there was some kind of time indicator or similar so I could compare my different runs. Couldn't figure out how to sneak, they would always see me when jumping over a block...
Funny and nicely animated, cool game.
Pretty cool game! Played it a few times while making sure the web version will work. I like the music :D
It plays really smoothly.
Please ask me on IRC about the web version!
I only get a black screen with music on Linux (Firefox/Iceweasel 38 + Flash 11). I will try again when I get a chance to run windows.
The music sounds great already!
Ahahaha, that ending! Plays really smooth, the last three levels required a lot of strategic planning.
I will not say anything about the art, we expected no less from you ;-)
Pretty cool game! It plays pretty smooth. Needs a mobile version with touch support!
I like the visual style. Too bad you didn't have time to make it into a real game, I think it would have been fun!
collaboration, there's music and some sound effects, what do you mean?
Nice idea. Not much to do, but what you can do is done really nicely.
The art is really amazing! Reminded me a lot of your game from last year, it's cool that you have a unique style. This high definition shader looks really cool on the pixel art! The parallax is cool, as are the story and the music!
Really great game!
Again an incredible game! Played it for two hours but didn't manage to get the right number of souls yet (in fact I only made it to the bottom once).
Looks really smooth, especially the smoke effects. Great background story as well.
The game feels very polished, except for the way too hard enemies! I made it to level 4, but after at least 50 retries, I had to quit.
It looks really cool and the sound is great too!
I really love the art style. Very cool!
Classic gameplay :-)
Pretty cool. Couldn't figure out the bicycle though. The bomb guy seem superior to the others, made one jump beyond 200 :-)
Good to see another point and click :-)
Really, really beautiful art and matching music. Nice take on the theme and very moody setting. Good work!
Pretty cool game! It really has style! The controls are a bit weird and a bit laptop-unfriendly. Besides that really, really cool!
WebGL worked fine for me. Couldn't beat the boss, but he surely fought me :-)
Cool little game, like the overall appearance!
Funny idea! I don't actually know how I did it, but I got 100/100. The art style is really beautiful. Cool game.
Funny idea :-)
Could figure out the throwing though, and after a while my dude only lowered one arm and I couldn't pick up anything anymore.
But the game looks and sounds pretty cool!
Cute little game with a nice idea! Reminded me of a Twilight Zone episode, don't remember its name though. The art was really sweet and the programming seemed solid.
ALSO I HAVE A GIFT FOR YOU: http://motor.base13.de/hero-web (requires WebGL, works best in Chrome).
And you named your files xx-LD32, I think you might check your calendars ;-)
Wayward, it's my own clone of LOVE that i've been working on over the last couple months + a few updates I made to get your game running in it. I'm using the LD33 games to check and improve my compatibility. You can find an (outdated) public release at http://motor.base13.de.
You may want to add a warning for the web version though, and tell people to play the download version if there are any problems (it's still in alpha state!).
Btw, you got my name wrong ;-)
Oh my, this is horrible, killing all those innocent animals and heads. But also fun :-)
The sound effects are hilarious!
Good job!
Haha, very funny story! Cool thing with the interaction between the panels! The drawing style fits very nicely!
Very cool game! Especially the music is (once again) perfect.
I think Bernie is a bit to slow for the game. But I agree that it is a more realistic depiction of a platformer baddie.
Nice work!
This game looks really amazing! I like the slow, heavy feel of the titan. Well done!
Pretty neat game. Tried the android version, worked well except for some UI rendering problems.
Really besutiful tentacle graphics!
Haha, very funny. I like the difference bass sounds for the different feet!
It's a bit hard and too hactiv for my taste, but it looks amazingly hilarious.
Pretty cool idea! Really makes you feel like you're playing a shadow :)
A bit easy maybe, but besides that I really liked it!
Interesting take on the theme to use a real monster. The idea is quite funny. The text skipped to fast, I couldn't read if I made it or not...
Funny little game! I like the style, it has a nice 90's flair to it!
I have a gift for you: http://motor.base13.de/antdestroyer-web.zip
You can just unzip it on you server (github should work in theory, but I have not tested it!) and open motor2d.html in your (WebGL-enabled) browser. I hope you like it!
Really cool game. Played it for about one and a half hours (I know that you know that already, we were talking on IRC the whole time :D)
I really like the game, even with the minor flaws in terms of usability it has. It has really a lot of content and text, the writing was awesome ("The adventurer sighs, grabs his sword, and attacks you!").
I thought it must be a really awesome sight, having a three-sworded slime dodging his enemy's strikes and draining his life from him :-)
Good job!
Btw, I needed four tries to finish it, the last one taking 135 turns (but i think I was maybe a bit overly cautious, the final boss was a bit easy to beat with my final powers).
All this music in such a short amount of time. I don't even get one actual song done in that time and you make like a hundred songs. And what songs they are! So cool.
Played all your games since Ripple Runner, and still you keep amazing me!
Wow, when I played it I thought it was a jamgame. But this is actually a compo game? That's unbelievable!
I did in fact like the music, it fit the game perfectly.
The game plays very smoothly, I just wished walking and driving had the same controls. And the hit box for the walking player seems a bit too large, couldn't fit through some spaces between trees, that the player should clearly fit through. Besides that, perfect. Still can't believe it was made in 48 hours!
My top score after playing twice: 44000.
The pixel art is super beautiful! The music is cool!
The game itself is a bit easy (just hold right+jump) and the physics feel a bit strange. There was also no need to kill anyone, yet the outro text said I was a monster :-(
But anyway, for the art style alone you deserve a good overall score!
Awesome visual style and gameplay. Just the mouse sensitivity is way too low and not changable :-(
Wow! It's not a game, it's art! Not that were two separate things, but wow, couldn't stop watching it.
The writing is great and still the music could have told the story without the writing.
I'm really impressed! It was worth the extra work you put in to submit it to the jam rather than the compo.
I'm not sure, what the leaves are representing, except maybe "growth" itself?
Will have to think about it a bit more.
Great job!
The music is (again) perfect. It matches the theme of the game and the game matches the theme of the jam! Especially the intro of the battle music really produces that "let's bring it on" feeling. Also the dinosaur sounds, they are hilarious :D
As someone else already pointed out, there is not enough to eat outside the center region (or there should be some kind of world border) and maybe there should be a different way to kill predators. I could imagine luring them into deadly ravines are similar things.
Art style and music fit together nicely, too. Both have a somewhat innocent happiness to them.
I don't think evolution is something that happens instantaneously, but in the age of Pokémon, who could tell the difference?
I like this game!
Typical DDRKirby(ISQ) music. Came for the music, stayed for the game! Or should I say GAMES? Plural? You actually made seven (!!) games in the timeframe of the jam.
One of the best games so far!
Both themes incorporated, nice!
This game is a lot of fun, infuriatingly hard the further up you get, but always feels fair.
Good job!
At first I thought you couldn't possibly make interesting puzzles with that, but I was wrong. It's actually getting really difficult really fast and I had to quit after not getting the "Combo Lock" level for like 15 minutes. The music is pretty cool, as are the graphics. Good entry!
Web version works great for me. Everything fits neatly together. Of course "Mouse control" as two button control is a bit cheaty, but who doesn't cheat at least a bit with the theme ;-)
Pretty cool for only 14 hours of work!
I think this is the first bitslap game that didn't make me ragequit several times before finally finishing it days later :-)
The art is great, as usual. The gameplay is smooth, just needs a bit getting used to.
A real ending would have been nice.
I didn't think it was frustrating at all... once you understand the controls it was actually quite relaxing to play. I had hoped for a bit of a difficulty progression, but it felt like getting easier instead of harder over time.
The visuals work good for this kind of game.
http://www.base13.de/Cordinatos
Pretty cool game! Nice sound and nice look! A bit hard at first, but once you get used to the different elements and how to exploit them, it gets easy enough to finish (in 4:36 in my case). Very frustrating when the ball falls down several floors :-p
Unity WebGL worked fine for me.
Pretty cool game! It's really addictive. Simple and fun gameplay with a certain "just one more try!!!!"
Almost like flappy bird in that regard.
Add music and polish it a bit and you might have a mobile hit! I'd pay some money for it!
Really good job!
Played on Android
Seriously cool game! Reminds me a lot of Crazy Gravity, just in HARD.
Took me a million tries to finish level 6 (I always failed at the steep ascent in the end or hit the edge on the corner to the landing zone).
The interaction of the particles with the level was nice and looks cool.
The android version kept forgetting my online name, so I guess I played a few times without it registering on the highscore, but tbh it wouldn't have made a difference with everybody always being three or four times as fast as I was :)
With some extra polish, this could be great mobile game, even outside the scope of LD.
Getting down the stairs seems too much of a learning curve. It's SO hard. Even with the hint.
The guy looks really silly, in a good way. The sounds are hilarious, too!
+1 for Doctor Who reference.
It feels like you spent a lot of time balancing this game! At least I hope even you cannot bang out such a balance with the first try. It's a hard game, but things seem to be happening at well defined times. Just as I plant my first crops, the first rats appear, which I can kill just before they eat my stuff.
Just as I started to starve, the first wheat was ready for harvesting.
I've also never seen a game before where you had to survive but the "enemies" were not even trying to kill you. They just want to survive, too, but in the process hurt and eventually kill you.
The art style is pretty cool and unique rxi style, built on top of some of your earlier games. I like the constant evolution. The color palette reminds me of those old photographs of farms during harvest time. No idea what you call that, but you hit it on the head with this brownish-green tint. Very nice indeed!
I have two tiny suggestions, if you care to hear them:
On a 1080p screen, the window is fairly small. You might want to add an option to chose the scaling factor.
The music is great and the melody and arrangement fit the game, but compared to the rest of the game, it may be a bit too hi-fi. I know that sounds silly, but a slightly more lo-fi, chiptuny music might have improved this game even further.
Anyway, that's just nitpicking. In fact, I think you should further develop this game, add more features and even sell it? I'd pay for it!
So much voice recording! And the texts are hilarious. Hard to tell what level of "spreading unrest" is tolerated. Sounds like talking about alien abductions could be considered spreading unrest, but somehow it was okay for them ;-)
I really enjoyed the look of this game. The sprites and shaders fit very well together. There seems to be a nice story behind it, but sadly it's SO hard, that I cannot make it past the first room with robots, they just fire way too fast for me to run in, shoot and return before getting hit.
You said you wanted to make a new version with strafing, drop me a link on IRC when you upload it and I'll give it a second try.
I dig this vector style. Very well done!
The controls are surprisingly intuitive. I wish there was some more variation in the gameplay, but then I ragequit after trying level 10 for the billionth time.
Good game and extra points for pointing out that it's not a Unity "Web"-Player game.
Seems like someone played too much of a certain Mario Kart 8 track :-)
The game plays really smooth, nice physics. Feels right. It could have used some sound, but the rest is pretty cool!
This is hilarious. Very trippy, crazy stuff :-)
Took me a while to find out what to do with the mouse, but boy did I show her!
The first 5/5 humor this LD for me :-)
Also, sweet music!
Dude, that soundtrack! Totally loving it. Can we get a OST download?
This is one of the good Unity games in LD and they are rather rare!
It was a bit too random in the beginning (lost about 1/4 of celestial stability before one work even came close to one of my coils), but still fun!
Okay, I should actually read the description before playing. With the HALT instruction, things actually happen.
I like the idea, the only problem is that I have to re-enter the whole program every time I make an error. I see how you wanted to replicate the burdensome way our ancestors used to program and appreciate the realism!
Despite the fact that this is not at all how satellites are operated or navigated in space, it was a nice little game!
I felt pretty smart when I managed to connect two antennas through one of the extra reflectors.
Nice little game! I like the art style, it's perfect for a compo entry!
It could have used a few more sounds (and I find your selection of the only sound very interesting :-))
The progression in difficulty is good and it feels cool once the car is going fast. Could use a better engine though, it takes so damned long to accelerate :-p
Lovely little non-game :-) Great style, great audio, great little story.
Good job!
Holy crap!
You've made some great games in the past, but this one though!
I had to listen to the music for a few minutes before I couldn't even start playing. I'm not a big fan of this kind of game, but it played so smoothly and looks and sounds amazing. Didn't read your name at first and I though it was a Jam entry.
Really good work!
Pretty funny game! Super hard to play on my touchpad though, would have preferred keyboard. The art style is very fitting and matches the hilarious setting.
I like the concept a lot, this is a very good use of the theme. The controls are a bit unforgiving though, if you don't hit the up or down button at exactly the right time, the elf doesn't take the entrance and runs directly into the next arrow.
The graphics are just beautiful!
Really difficult, didn't get very far, sadly. The art style is very nice and consistent, the sounds fits in very well.
Pretty cool game, but sadly the controls are so fast, that it's almost unplayable to me. I collected 7 things, but then I had to quit, because I kept falling off of things.
If you make a post compo version with tighter controls, I'd galdy hear about it. Drop me a line on twitter if you do!
I loved the art style, it's so colorful and pretty :-)
Many cool android games this is the besg i've seen so far.
Fluid gameplay and great polish!
The audio was a bit distorted sometimes, but I guess that was just my phone.
Simple and addictive, playable in a few momemts, just like mobile game should be.
I'll keep it on my phone after the compo.
Good job!
The mandatory G+ connection was a bit annoying though...
Nice game! Worked fine on Linux (64 bit). It looks pretty good. It got pretty hard in the end, when the thing starts actually aiming at you and there is barely time to plant something. But the progression of difficulty seemed well balanced. Good job!
Small hint: X and Z are not next to each other on many keyboard layouts, see discussion here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/04/24/why-z-is-a-bad-action-key/
In your game, it was acceptable, because these two keys were the only ones, just as a hint for the feature :-)
This is one of the few games with unannoying two button controls. Many games are so hard to control, not this one though! It plays smoothly, the puzzle design is good and the visuals are pleasing.
Great job!
Hey, I made a web version of your game: http://www.base13.de/NoGoingBack/
The sound's volume is not entirely right (and I had to replace your MP3s with OGGs, because my Web-LÖVE doesn't support MP3 at the moment).
Contact me on Twitter if you have questions on how to change stuff. It should work with any more or less up to date Firefox or Chrome browser with WebGL support.
Cheers!
I like the idea of the game and it looks really cool.
It seems a bit too hard, though. I couldn't manage to stabilize the temperature. In several cycles (I think 6 or 7) I boosted the oxygen to about 30%, but I couldn't get any animals.
I think, after a while the temperature should be more stable through the greenhouse effect.
Those controls though!
Quite infuriating, but eventually I found both endings. Oooof.
Looks very pretty and sound and visuals fit together very nicely.
I liked it! (My left wrist hurts now).
Wow, pretty difficult game. Took me several tries to survive longer than a minute.
The pixel art is really great. This could easily have been an actual game in the 1990s.
Except for the harsh learning curve I have nothing to complain about.
Nicely done!
I couldn't run it on Linux. I figured it was a mono game, so I installed mono and tried to run it. Here's what I got: http://hastebin.com/luvexopasu.coffee
Contact me on Twitter if you want me to retry it!
The Linux download just gives me a black page...
Tell me on Twitter when you fixed that, I'll retry it then!
I couldn't play the game (64 bit Linux) without installing a full multilib environment (would rather not do it).
If you upload a 64 bit Linux build and drop me a link on twitter, I'll give it a second try!
I liked the visual style and the music. The powerups were really cool.
Good thing you mentioned that the intro didn't make sense, now I don't have to point it out ;-) I thought it was a growing game and the growing in the intro felt really good.
I had some fluctuating frame rates, always slowing down when it was getting interesting.
Neat game! The controls worked better than most other games with many shapes you had to manually select did. The Blaster was unexpectedly powerful (and made the game lag a bit on Linux with Firefox and Flash 11.2).
Oooof. This is extremely hard. The one place where you (seamingly, maybe I didn't discover the right way) jump, then transform midair into the skater kind and, land on breaking blocks and then speed through lasers was too much for me. Maybe I took a completely wrong way, but it was the only obvious one for me :-(
That being said I like the artstyle and audio. The gameplay felt solid, even with the difficulty problem. I will try it again later and then hopefully get through it.
As usual, this look, sounds and feels perfect. I can't imagine you having made this just after finishing LOWREZJAM.
I couldn't finish it yet, I'll need some more time to adjust to the keys; I would really love UP for jumping and flapping, that'd feel much more natural to me and keep me from entangling my fingers all the time.
I love this game so much! Best use of two button controls I've ever seen, and fits the theme so well. The art is amazing, as is the music.
My favorite so far!
The first section with the many spikeballs in deep drop almost made me ragequit, but after about 30 or 40 retries I got past them. Good thing there was a checkpoint right afterwards. The level design is very well suited for this kind of game.
Congratulations!
The animation and graphics style is super cute! I reign supreme now :D
The theme was used very well.
Sometimes I thought a bit of a hint about the direction would have been very helpful, I ran (hopped) around pointlessly for a long time.
All in all a cool game.
Ha, another Car/Flying-machine game :-)
This may just be the heaviest rocket I've ever seen in a game or anywhere.
I like your visual style, the lighting works really well. The game itself seems to be even more difficult than my own!
The player shape was a bit too floaty for my taste. I was floating around for ages while the fireballs approached.
I like the idea of using your shape as a key to open new areas.
Very cool idea! I really enjoyed the writing and the voice acting a lot. I didn't read that there were five endings before I started and suspected in the end it turned out that "you" are the shapeshifter. And that was also the first ending that I found :-)
The drawing style might be a bit low-fi, but it totally underscores the hilarious dialogs.
I had a lot of fun :D
I love the art. The idea for the game is pretty nice, the first game with changing the state of matter I see, though thinking about it now, it's pretty obvious.
The ice seemed pretty sticky, just the way ice shouldn't feel ;-)
Made it to the end though and had a good 2:38.489!
The best "change your shape to pass through obstacle X" game I've played so far. Actually one of the few that are not hard to play even though you have to memorize 4 keys to shape relations.
I think it helped a lot that the keys were sorted by number of corners in the shape they create. That was a very useful thing!
The style is great and the music fits perfectly. Not so sure about the voice though, it could have been a bit clearer for better effect.
I wish there was a way to restart at a later level, having to replay the whole game several times to reach the point where I last died made it a bit too long to make it through completely.
But this is really the only major point of critique I have. The game is a lot of fun, a mobile version would be great!
Also,
Again you experimented with a new style and method and I love it. The watercolor art and the music are so beautiful! You should definitely make something bigger with it.
As you said yourself, gameplay-wise there's not much going on, and it's pretty buggy (sometimes after transforming, the plane spawned below the platform with the switch on it.
@chriiis88, wow, LÖVE 0.8.0 is really old, no wonder it didn't work. I'll see it I can package it.
@thebrainfuse, there is an undocumented R key to restart the level :(
Great use of the theme! The movement overall was a bit fast, but I got used to it. The music is pretty cool and I enjoyed the pixel style a lot.
Keep up the good work!
Finally a Unity game with style. These are hard to come by. Worked perfectly fine in the WebGL version. All in all, this was a very fun game. Made it all the way to the end in the first try, which probably means it's a bit too easy, but probably exactly right for a game jam.
I like the also health meter, it's pretty neat.
The visual style is great :D
I really love it and the music and sound are perfect for it.
It also played pretty smoothly, after two tries I had understood the controls and meaning of the game elements.
Good game!
Pretty nice entry! Really loved the music and the style. The puzzles were good, just maybe in the wrong order, the second one with the long corridor full of moving saw blades was harder than all that came after it, so it should be further to the end.
The length of puzzles and short retry times were perfect to not get annoyed by the constant dying.
Very good entry!
It's not impossible at all :D
I made it through on the first try. The idea of gaining weight is such a great take on the theme and it was presented perfectly!
It was a bit annoying that eating the pork was done automatically and took so much time, so I almost lost my king because the knight was busy eating instead of fighting. But I turned out victorious in the end.
Good game!
Wow, such an impressive use of the theme! I'm speechless. The style is so great! There were just some minor problems like the camera not always showing the ground or the physics feeling a bit awkward. But I really loved this game. Best use of theme I've seen so far. Perfect feeling of panic and haste.
Oh, at first I thought I had won, when in fact I had died. The message "This is the end, you only died X times" was not making it clear that there was more content. Only "smash jump furiously" gave that away. I would almost have missed the ending!
I like the style and music. The game is really difficult though. Switching and shooting and not being able to walk while in gun mode make it hard.
Didn't make it to the end, after fighting and fighting for half an hour or so, I still keep dying in the room after the four round rooms. Its a lot easier when trying to shoot enemies in the back, but it doesn't help that they seem to be ghosts who can just pass the walls.
Ran fine on LÖVE 0.10.1.
The drifting feels great, lots of fun!
Too bad it doesn't have sound, a screeching sound on the drift would be awesome. But I now from my own game, how hard it is to synth a screeching sound.
Pretty neat game! I *LOVE* the sound the machine makes. It looks awesome, but it relatively hard. I guess I'm not made for the glamorous Barber lifestyle.
And as I told you before, the soundtrack is simply amazing.
I encountered some bugs, one of them seems to be gamebreaking for me :-(
First, the font rendering seems to be scaled up for me (LÖVE 0.10.1 on Linux), so I couldn't read the second description that explains how to disguise and had to check the entry page.
The second one is more serious though, for some reason, in the first (?) jumping level, one of the guards always detects me, even if I've been disguised all the time. I even restart the level completely disguised in that case...
Nice idea with the different fire modes! The game itself felt solid and was fun to play. Too bad I suck at bullet hell style shooters and there sure was a hell of a lot of bullets :D
Couldn't make it too the end, but your pixel style is nice!
I like the art of the game. Very good pixel style. Too bad there isn't really much to do.
Hey, another carplane with the plane part not having an engine, sounds familiar :D
We should invent a secret handshake or something!
Great puzzle idea! That was a real brain teaser. There was one level that I couldn't figure out, the one where you have to cross a wide hole in the ground and somehow shuffle all the tiles over to the other side first.
I almost made it, but then didn't have enough space on the right side to actually pick the last square up again. That's also my only point of critique: The difficulty progression is very random. The puzzles are all great, but some of the hardest ones are early in the game.
You might also want to try to split your download into two files, one for the source, one for the game. The 53MB download from itch.io took ages this way.
I enjoyed this game and I've spent more time on it than on many others :)
Ha, nice little game. It actually feels pretty awesome when one finally destroys almost nothing of the wall :D
Knees and elbows are hard to control, it's possible but takes a long time. I don't think there's a better way to do it though.
You should show the total score on the end screen!
The guitar samples fit so perfectly to the game! It's a calm experience even though it becomes relaticely hectic.
I also played on a trackpad, I think that counts as hard mode :D
Very good entry!
Didn't find the secret ending though. It felt like I was playing the same game over and over again, not sure how I could have changed something to find the ending :-/
Pretty fun game! It took me maybe 7 or 8 retries before I noticed that I could kill the enemies. That made it a lot easier, but I still couldn't get past about 50%.
The art style is very fitting and I love the color fade of the level. The music fits that style perfectly. Good job :D
This is a really cool compo game! It looks and plays very good. Sadly, after restarting one level a few times (the one where you start in a small pit with spikes hanging from the ceiling on both sides and you have to chose whether you go left or rigth), the game just turned black. The music was still playing, but it didn't react to any input :-(
But what I saw up to this point was really great. Like Lemmings but with the focus on a single one. Great job!
Came for the music, stayed for the game :D
Nice shapeshifting, cute graphics, not-so-hard puzzles. All in all a nice experience. Found only 31/51, but I'm okay with that :D
Great visual style. I was shooting wildly around and when someone suddenly turned into a couch I was properly amused. The music fits very well, too.
Hi, I tried to play your game on Linux, but apparently the Linux link leads to a Windows program. If you don't have a Linux build, you should just remove the Linux link or put the right link there if you have it.
Drop me a message if you get an actual Linux version up.
The screenshots look sweet!
Such a cute game :D And dat music :D
Your art style is beautiful, too bad there wasn't much more to do than running forward with an occasional jump. In the first level I was once caught by the hen, in the second level I never saw a real threat.
Those half-visible holes were very sneaky :-p
You should take the whole 72 hours next time if you can manage that somehow. I would have loved to play the finished game!
Great game! Reminds me a lot of Thomas was Alone, just in funny. The writing was great, especially the very last thing :D
The graphics are just perfect for this game, the mechanics work flawlessy. Too bad it didn't have sound.
Also +1 for a game with terminal emulation for story telling, I did that last time :D
Beautiful art style! I like the game mechanics and it was cool to smash stones as the red guys. The blue guy was a bit hard to control, so that I kept falling down in level 4 and had to start over several times :-(
The music was nice to listen to and the overall puzzle design was easy to understand but still challenging to complete. Good job!
@Patrick, it says it right there in the description text.
Nice idea! The controls are tight and feel right.
It starts a bit too fast for my taste, with enemies spawning too close by and hitting you before you realize they're there. But still a great entry!
I beat it! And it took only an hour or so. I feel proud now.
I don't think I have to lose many words about the style, you know it's great. Controls are tight as usual, the weapons feel awesome to use.
It's hard, but fair. You always have all the information and it looks easy, but then you make a tiny mistake and you're dead.
The only thing missing was a soundtrack, it felt a bit barren without that.
This game *almost* drove me insane. Almost. But in the end, I WON.
I don't think I have to say anything about your art or audio style, top notch as usual. The game has some very clever ideas for puzzles.
In the beginning I was not sure about the theme, but when I realized that a small part of the level never changes when teleporting (? shifting the time-space-plane of the universe?), it suddenly makes a lot more sense.
For a while I thought that the lack of variable jump height was a problem, but the puzzles are all designed with that in mind and after a few retries, I managed all of them (except for one, where I used the non-standard method, as it seems).
Very cool entry!
I'm still smiling, minutes after playing. This is hilarious. All the birds and rats, ending up in orbit and all the panic!
If humor was what you were going for, then you definitely reached your goal.
I made it up to 9 points before giving up because it got to overwhelming, switching between a door-opening-and-buttons-and-animals-coming-in-staccato and power outages. But that added to the charm of the game. Together with the music, which I will probably not get out of my head for months (thanks >_<')
I played the game for my video series, I hope you'll like my let's play of it.
I played the game for my video series!
At first I had no idea what I was doing. Then by chance discovered that you could kill groups of the same enemy with one spell. The discovery was the most fun part. People like to understand things. Makes us feel smart :D
I didn't so much feel the "push your luck" component. Maybe a bit in the end. But I have to confess that I didn't pay much attention to the number of enemies I was going to get in the next hour.
Others have already made some suggestions on what to improve (too fast movement, dying several times in a row), so I'll just focus on what I liked: The art style is minimalistic, but works very well with the music. In the future you might want to try to make everything pixel style, including the background and the ropes for the swinging blades.
There was a nice learning curve and once you get used to the physics, it can be played well.
Good take on the theme, very moody, too, considering the minimal graphics and audio.
I recorded myself playing through your game in the third episode of my LD37 playthrough series: https://youtu.be/KZBHX8cfwxc
As usual, genius use of the theme!
Nice adaption of the original game :)
Pretty hard! I don't remember Lode Runner to be anywhere near that on the difficulty scale.
I like the mood you create with the music.
Played your game for my video series! I was stupid though and forgot to record it the first time, which is sad, because it was hilarious. I died a lot. Like, A LOT.
So I recorded it again. And forgot to power on my microphone. So your game will be a post-recorded voice over for the second recording. I'm sorry.
About the game: At first it was really hard and I could run a few steps before either falling into the lava or getting killed (4 times in a row!) by the same guy.
After a while it got a lot easier and I found the amulet, and returned it safely home.
I also found a pineapple, which didn't show up in the summary at the end of the game. What does it do? :D
The art style works great for a game of this genre and Amras0000's music fits in perfectly, too.
I had a but of a problem with the input sometimes moving me two steps ahead. I blamed it on my slightly outdated Mozilla browser.
As usual, awesome audio, that does not only deserve five stars on its own but also donates some extra stars to the Humor section :)
I was really smiling when I first opened the game.
The game itself is a cool idea, very smart use of the theme. The graphics are working well, even if they are not super shiny.
In the end I totaled the first and third house and still went away with $10,464. If that isn't motivating :D I think I should buy a house now.
Cool take on the theme! I like all the mini games, except the rock paper scissors, maybe, because that's purely luck based.
The art style is super hilarious and fits the theme of the game quite nicely.
The arm wrestling might have been better with a single key, it's pretty hard this way :-p
I included your game in the third episode of my Ludum Dare 37 playthroughs: https://youtu.be/KZBHX8cfwxc
Having written a raycaster in LÖVE before myself, I know what task you were up to. Props for attempting to do that in the short time frame of LD.
The non euclidian geometry was slightly disorienting and I thought I was lost in the one room until I read your description again ;-) One could argue that that's an appropriate ending for the storyline of the game.
The graphics work okay, the grayscale palette fits the theme of the game very well.
The only bad thing really, at least for me, were not the graphics or the unfinished state, but the keyboard turning speed. The control slider didn't do anything and shortly tapping the keys already made me turn like 130° or so. In the end I ended up turning back and forth trying to get the turn.
All in all I liked this game!
Interesting take on the theme! The art style workd well for this game.
Maybe the guests' wishes could take other guests' wishes a bit more into account. It's a bit disheartening when four guests all want to use the same room at the same time which is blocked by another one since forever.
But I guess I am guilty of overseeing such small details, too, so who am I to talk :D
Very solid entry!
Very cool! I really like the idea and use of the theme. Took me a bit to figure out in the beginning, but once I understood it, it was not too hard.
The controls are a bit unusual in that you cannot jump and then accelerate left or right, like I'm used from all my platformer experience :)
The music produces a super wacky mood. Plus your typical humor. I love it!
Nice pixeling on the Mona Lisa, btw. I thought for a second this was a Jam entry and you just copied it from the Internets.
I recorded a full-length video of me playing the game, I'll release it tomorrow (together with two other games), then link you up :)
I saw the game quite a while ago on the Ludum Dare frontpage and immediately loved the title :D
You really keep the promise "Sokoban meets Ikea". The music is cool, maybe a bit to "action-y". The graphics are perfect for this kind of game.
Good job on the puzzle design, I couldn't beat anything past level 4, as you already saw on the video :)
I'm going to retry it in a few minutes.
Very good job, one of my favourite games this LD.
Once again, I really love your music. Great work! The game itself almost felt like the real thing, very cool. I got a 53 on my first try. I'll play some more later :)
Very well polished game! The music is super cool, as are the graphics.
All my points of critique are already fixed in the postcompo release, so I won't even mention them here.
I included your game in my LD37 Playthrough series: https://youtu.be/KZBHX8cfwxc
Very good job!
I am really impressed by the number of games you managed to make in such a short time! I guess doing 1500000000000 1HGJs did actually help ;-)
Let's see what I remember of the individual games. Most were working perfectly, some had some small bugs. A key to restart a level would have really helped me in the game where you had to collect the keys in the top-down view. In this game, I also accidentally hit the wrong doors unintentionally a few times, which meant I had to restart from level 1. I think the same turn based movement as in the Sokoban clone would have solved that problem.
The third level in the snake game was a bit too long for me. I cannot quite say why, but I had some problems with the movement in this game, sometimes turning too early, sometimes too late. I remember the controls on my old Nokia Snake to work a bit tighter. Sorry, I cannot really say why that is. In the third level then, it was excruciating to finish almost the whole level but then crash into a wall shortly before finishing.
The top-down bullet hell was a bit hard to play even once I figured out the right order in which to kill the enemies. It sometimes needed some very fast move-turn-shoot-move sequences, that I failed to do repeatedly. Maybe a tiny bit lower firing rate for the enemies would have been better.
The platformer worked well, just the movement felt a bit detached from the input, but in the end I had no problem with it (also, when jumping into a one tile high opening, the jump sound was played repeatedly and rapidly).
The rest of the games worked perfectly for me, I think. Especially Sokoban and the one where you can only move in a straight line and always move as far as possible were great. Nice puzzles, not too hard to solve, but not too easy either.
There's a small graphical glitch when sprites move or the screen shakes. In that case, there was sometimes a small, one pixel high line below the sprite or tile. I've seen that problem in many games, including many of my own. The solution was usually to floor() the tile and sprite positions and camera translations. This way texels line up with pixels again.
A few words about the graphics: The sprites look gorgeous! Especially Monky Bird and Sara Cat are super cute and the animations are beautiful! The overworld's design did not fit the graphics style of the minigames perfectly (bigger pixels, polar coordinates), but the difference was small enough to only notice when you really want to nitpick ;-)
The music was not annoying, even after listening to it for about an hour, which is an achievement in itself.
Also, despite my small annotations, I am *really* impressed. Each of your minigames is better and has more polish than 90% of LD games, and you made 10, not 1. Very good job!
Now that's a cool idea for a game! Really, really love it! It works really smooth and looks cool. Cannot say anything negative about it or give you constructive criticism. Good job.
Got stuck (as in, didn't manage to do it, not physically) in the level where I have to use a few clouds to get up and then right. I will retry later :)
The art style and heavy feeling of Gaia's steps are really cool. The music is simple and fitting. I like it!
Pretty retro RPG action! I liked it from beginning to end. The game seemed to get easier with time and was relatively easy all in all. I didn't miss any animations or the audio, it's pretty the way it is (and the music has an epic melody, very fitting for the game!)
The tileset and sprite styles are top notch, too!
One downside was the lack of key-repeat, my fingers are still sore from running around ;-)
Man, that music, again. Always a pleasure to play your games for that reason alone!
The game itself was a bit confusing and hectic, but after a while I got used to it.
You can skip a level by pressing F12!
@toasty, yeah, I used Tiled Lua export. It's pretty simple, really. Just create a map, set it to 10x10 with 64x64 tiles. Load the tileset, add two tile layers: one called main and one called background. background is completely decorative. in main you can do whatever you want, as long as all the non-solid blocks have tile id 0 (i.e. "erase" them in tiled). Then add an object layer, creatively called "objects". Make sure all objects' x and y coordinates line up with the tile grid. Then assign one of the following types to each object: "dwarf", "block", "exit", "gold", "elevator" or "hint". Elevators will always use the maximum height available, putting their motor in the first solid tile above them. Make sure the exit is put on a non-solid tile.
Then add two map properties: "name" for the name displayed in the bottom right corner, and "next" with the filename of the next level, without path or extension. Then put them in the level folder, load them in main.lua and you're set.
If you want to use hint objects (to display a text message), give the objects two properties, "title" and "text".
Oh, no object can have a size greater than 1x1 tiles ;-)
@smbe19, it was on my todo list. Sadly I ran out of jam before I ran out of todo items :-p
@dgspitzer, the music thing is a bug in love.js, I think. It shouldn't happen in the download version!
@tero-pulkkinen: I assume you dropped into the 2 block deep place in the second tutorial level? You're supposed to jump over that and use R if you get locked. Once you're down there, the only way is to restart.
Hmm. Can't get through the first room with spikes, I have the dash ability, and I always make the jump each time, but I fail every time. I gave up now after about 50 tries, and since I cannot find any other route, I guess that's it. That's sad, because the game seems really cool.
The graphics are low-fi, but that doesn't hurt at all. The music is cool for this genre. Only the physics are a bit fast and might need some tweaking to make it feel "tighter".
Interesting idea! I didn't understand if the colour made any difference at all? I would have liked some additional difficulties.
I wanted to quit at first because I thought "wow, it's impossible to make that jump". Until I realized I could just shapeshift back to the ghost, derp.
Sadly, the game gave me a bit of nausea, probably because of the general floatiness of the camera. So I had to stop after a while. What I have seen up to that point was pretty cool though. I like the music and the concept. The art fits the minimalist theme of the rest of the game.
I am not sure what the point of quoting the old LD themes was, but I assume it was explained later in the game.
Very good short game! I like the calm overall tone and the simple, but still interesting little puzzles. The physics worked well for this specific game, for other games it might have been too floaty. But as I said, it really fits into this one.
Not quite sure what to make of the end :) What does it mean? I don't know :D
Haha, tried playing it with a touchpad, not a great idea ^^
The system easy enough to understand, so even without that I made it to level 5, but then died quickly.
The music is really cool and fits really well into the game!
The path finding of the enemies seemed a bit simple, but I know how there's never enough time in the compo :)
Good entry!
I didn't really understand what the fading meant :) I was too fast in the first try and didn't see anything of the world disappear. The game could easily be a bit faster and still be perfectly playable. The sprites look very cute, just the tiles don't really fit them because of the lower detail, but that doesn't make the game any worse, just telling you for the future :)
I guess there wasn't any time for that, but some music or the sound of the world falling apart would have really added to the atmosphere.
I got stuck and couldn't recover: http://imgur.com/a/LAjNj
Will retry now, just wanted to tell you!
Okay, finished it :) It wasn't easy in some places and the physics are a bit rough, but the game was well constructed. I liked the resizing mechanics, though you could probably have constructed a few real puzzles out of them instead just letting the player try to reach the next item.
I've always liked physics based games, so hats off :)
Wow, that's impressive! The Vectrex doesn't have any vector math unit or something, right? So all the (fake?) 3D projection was done by hand? Very cool!
I would have loved some form of difficulty progression, I only died because I got distracted and forgot to refuel (oops :))
Others already said that the collision with passenger, destination and fuel sometimes doesn't work correctly, just wanted to confirm I noticed the same.
I'm a big fan of retro hardware, so this is a very cool entry for me. I should get a Vectrex :D
Also, greetings to TRSi, love you guys' stuff!
First of all, I really liked your graphics style. The sprites had a very stylish look and fit well into the 3D level. I liked the fact that some parts of the levels were repeated in later levels, it almost felt as if there was a meaning to it (was there maybe and I missed it? Did it have to do with the friends you made along the way? I had to reply the game to understand that the big guys are supposed to become your friends if you don't kill them).
Besides all the good points, there are a few things you may want to consider next time. None of these make this a bad game, but they make the difference between a good and a great game and they deal entirely with physics related stuff: For one, the horizontal vs. vertical speed is too low, in my opinion. It feels like my character was jumping mostly upwards but didn't make much horizontal progress. That made some of the jumps pretty hard, especially those at the end of some of the earlier levels. The second point of critique I have also makes jumps hard: It seems like the main character slips off platforms easily. As if the bottom of her collision box (or those of the platform) were rounded off. While that allows to climb platforms that are too high with some patience, it also means timing a jump becomes pretty hard.
Solving these two issues would add a lot to the game.
Anyway, this is still a pretty solid entry and I had fun playing it!
I didn't understand the concept at first but won anyway :D
The later levels made that impossible, and I had to understand the concept. Very clever!
Holy, crap. You are right, the game is outrageously hard!
If you didn't restart at Area 1 after each death and there weren't any unfair levels (that you apparently know of already), then this difficulty level would be acceptable. But restarting every time from 0 is not hard, that's frustrating.
That's pretty sad, because the game itself is super slick. Reminds me of a modernized Crazy Gravity, with actual gravity.
Super sexy shader and particles. But after making it to level 3 twice and then having to restart from zero... trying one more time would mean I have to buy a new laptop because I'd unavoidably thrash this one.
This game would be my favorite so far, if it wasn't for the frustrating restarting...
Great to see people make games about the topic. I made one for [LD33](http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-33/?action=preview&uid=30930). That being said, the game is, sadly, not very playable. Others have already stated that the controls and collisions are not working very well. I also agree that the art is great, though.
Pretty hard game! Dying many times in the second world is something that doesn't usually happen to me :D
The music was pretty good for the game, but I would have liked at least some game sounds, even if it's just a blip here and there when shooting or hitting or getting hit.
It was fun!
