The One - A Tale of Bliss or Sorrow by ploogle 2013-12-16T19:03:00
I didn't find my soulmate, much like real-life. Awesome ambiance and very existential :)

I didn't find my soulmate, much like real-life. Awesome ambiance and very existential :)
Quite fun! I found the level design a bit frustrating, but at the same time, the challenge of it hooked me in! This has quite a long story, and it's staged quite interestingly. Overall, nice job!
Interesting gameplay mechanic and theme usage. Pretty neat!
Very cool. I loved the animation and music!
Nice job. You had a lot of levels, which is impressive for only 48 hours. And I like how it keeps escalating. Well done!
It looked fun. I Wish I could play it, but unfortunately my computer only has a keyboard :D
Nice job! I played this game for quite some time, it's strangely addicting! I do think it could use a bit more feedback, because it took me at least 4 days before I figured out that the people actually wanted specific things! I was originally hoping if I gave them enough stuff they would all just go away :)
Amazingly well done. It's a hilarious story that is nicely presented and has a lot of polish. Fantastic take on the theme!
A nice entry, for sure! I would have liked to see some indication of my health (or maybe it was there and I didn't get it?) but overall, a super addicting game! Great job.
It took me a while to understand what was going on, but that's understandable for a Ludum Dare entry. Once I got the hang of it though, my mind was kind of blown. This is a really unique idea. Great job!
Very simple and fun!
Neat game! It did take me forever to see that green button (still not sure what it says!) because of the Unity "Development Build" watermark. But once I figured that out, it all made sense.
My only real suggestion would be to add some blurb about who is doing the talking :) it was a little confusing to follow the dialog at times. Great interpretation of the theme though!
This is where mommy sleeps. This is where mommy sleeps. This is where mommy sleeps. This is where mommy sleeps. This is where mommy sleeps.
Interesting way to use the theme! The AI was a little frustrating, but overall nice idea :)
Fantastic game, I had a lot of fun with this one. It's a hilarious premise. Nice job!
I have died so many times. Haha, difficult but quite fun :)
Funny concept, I love it! It's definitely a unique take on the theme - nice job.
Wow, one of the first games I genuinely had fun with! Great job and an awesome take on the theme.
Amazing job, the polish is just stellar! The graphics are beautiful, the theme was nicely integrated, and the sound was top notch. My only suggestion would be to consider giving the players a bit of time to float around during the start of each level, so we can prepare for battle as opposed to just being in battle. But that's just a nitpick thing, overall this was a fantastic entry. Well done!
Great game! Fun and addicting! :)
This is a really clever usage of the theme and I absolutely love how you've represented valances. I took a (single) chemistry class in college, so I didn't necessarily /learn/ anything new. However, this game has a lot of potential on a conceptual level. Nice job!
@Nitrion - Wrapping the ship is a great idea, I can't believe it never occurred to me. Thanks for playing.
@Miltage - When I envisioned the game originally, it was much less similar to FTL than one might think. But my implementation is an entirely different story... I do admit that I was inspired by their interface a little. Thanks for your feedback!
@Deity - Thanks for the info, I have updated my description accordingly. I don't think that bug falls under the "typo" category as it's probably an intrinsic problem, so I don't plan to be fixing it for the compo. Thank you for playing though!
@biscuitdough - The planet map was basically a hand-tessellated hexagonal grid which was used as a canvas upon which with multiple different planet textures were drawn to. The planets weren't necessarily the same size, which is probably why it looked different sometimes :) Also it gets "eaten" away differently based on where your missile hits.
Thanks for playing it!
Awesome game. I liked the perspective aspect the most. The introduction "dive" is really cool.
Interesting concept. I would suggest refining the jumping mechanic as it was a bit frustrating :) Also, the game seems to freeze after dying - so perhaps a button to restart? Still, it's a cool idea for the theme!
Nice job!
Fantastic game! Wow. It's so conceptual and avant-garde. I had a lot of fun playing it. Excellent job.
HAHA great game! I was going to do something similar, but changed my mind. You implemented it well!
Really awesome concept. I liked the code comments :)
Very nice! The items are a little hard to see but very cool idea and quite fun!
This was amazingly introspective. Possibly the most unique take on the theme this go-round. Very impressive. I think I spent more time with this entry than I did with any other.
Lol, I actually really liked how silly this game was. Despite being based on a funny concept, it didn't actually feel too rushed - which was nice. Good job! The controls were incredibly frustrating, but I guess that's part of the allure, as it kept me hooked for a while :)
Great game! Surprised it goes on for so long, great job.
Amazing game! I had to actually read your listing before I understood what was going on, so perhaps some kind of in-game instructions would be nice. But man, I really love this entry. Fantastic job, and it looks beautiful.
Great job! It's short, sweet, and elegant. I love the interesting gameplay mechanic.
Interesting puzzle mechanic! It was a little unclear how it all worked and by the time I figured it out, I blocked the path to the rest of the map! haha. Overall, pretty cool interpretation of the theme. Nice job!
I had a hard time understanding what to do in the game, but I think with a bit more polish it could be fun. The movement + clicking gameplay was unique!
This is really fun.
Very unique and fun game idea. Great job!
Oh my god, this is so awesome! I wish you had a bit more time to fully develop your game, but even without, it's pretty sweet!
Amazing game. I had a lot of fun with this. It's actually pretty engaging.
So far I've caught a Firefly reference and a Galaxy Quest reference. I'm sure there are more :) Nicely done! Though it feels like my crew has a strong propensity for dying. Very fun nonetheless.
Nice game! The UI mechanism was pretty unique and may be something that could be polished up. Especially because items seemed to become unreachable due to their scaling (as you pointed out already). Otherwise though, cool concept. Good job! And I liked the intro.
+1 for recognizing pluto as a planet :D This is a cool concept, though I found the controls really hard to master. And I kept getting stuck in the CPU. Fun idea, nice job!
Finally! A game that rewards you for smashing things together :D nice job. It would be cool with a bit of background music and maybe some sound effects.
This has a really nice feel. I love the controls. I especially like how leaving a planet requires you to at least achieve some kind of an elliptical orbit first (or that's what it feels like). And I noticed the potato salad was over 9000 :) Overall, nice game! I think it could be improved with some better balancing and maybe missions or something. Neat idea though.
The mini game concept was interesting, but they could have used a bit more polish to make them entertaining. The story definitely fit your theme of disconnected society, nice job.
Hey I know you! Cool game, I love the music and I especially like the death quotes. After escaping the initial burst, though, it seems like some of the asteroids stop spawning and you can get pretty far away from the sun. My only suggestion would be to make it a bit faster. Nice job!
God really needs to figure out a better sorting system! But I digress, this was a hilarious game. Amazing art, good amount of challenge, and fun gameplay.
This looks like a cool game! But that walking sound... Anyway, I couldn't figure out what to do :( I went to the gems and the launch button just kept making explosions and I couldn't seem to interact with the environment. And once I was outside, there was no coming back! I think an instruction page would be a good idea. But I love the style of your game and the eerie, mysterious, otherworldly vibe it has. nice job :)
What a fun game! I loooove what you did with the menu screen. The controls were pretty touchy, but it was fun nonetheless. Good job!
I like how unforgiving this game is. It's pretty intense and I think it has a lot of potential. Too bad you didn't get the time to add more levels. Nice job!
Really awesome! I love the concept, it's a pretty cool take on the theme. The music is quite nice too. Good job! My only suggestion would be for a bit of direction. I wasn't exactly sure what to do and almost died before I realized I was the one teleporting people between worlds!
@burgerdare Oi! I tested it in IE, Chrome, and Opera. I figured that would be good enough. Guess I was wrong :) Thanks for letting me know, I've already uploaded the patch.
OMG This game is amazing. I love how you the music is worked into the gameplay. Very clever. Very well done.
Nothing like a good clicker game. I could play these types of games forever, and I love the fairly unique way you've implemented the clicker mechanic. Definitely not like cookie clicker, but still just as satisfying! I noticed some of the levels didn't have the +50's falling around. That's half the fun :) as a suggestion, I would consider adding those back in. Nice job!
Nice job. I got a bit frustrated with the cave part explaining the secondary button. But this is a great game nonetheless!
Okay this is pretty awesome. I didn't realize I could slow down, so I got frustrated at first. But once I realized what was going on - wow! Such an awesome game. Nice job.
Graphics are pretty nice. I would suggest considering an instruction page or something. Cool entry nonetheless!
This is a cool game. The way I play though, my planets look pretty dorky jumping in groups! Fun game with the right amount of challenge. Good job!
Great game! Quite challenging... I didn't have the patience to get too far, but the art is amazing and it's beautifully well done. I'm impressed with how much it looks like you got in here in such a short time!
Fun concept! This has a certainly unique game mechanic, so that was pretty cool. Good job!
Nice job! Unfortunately, during the boss fight, my troops decided to randomly stop shooting (even though I tried to issue commands to them, nothing worked) :( so the ants overran us and ruled the worm kingdom hence forth. Oh well, funny story and it is awesome that you fit a whole campaign in during the compo. Nice job!
Ahh I like how different planets come together when you die to offer their services. It is pretty fitting with the theme, though I think some tweaking of the unique abilities of each ship would be a good idea. They seemed to be unbalanced. Overall, nice entry though :)
Amazing art. This is a really nice game. Good job!
Pretty fun for a few minutes of challenge. I like being able to push those turret things down. One suggestion I would make is the scaling, I am pretty sure there were things off screen that I was supposed to see (like the text at the beginning) :) Overall, cool entry!
This is a pretty cool game, I like the atmosphere. It would be awesome with a little bit of music, but I know all too well how hard that is to shove in 48 hours. Especially with everything else going on. Nice job though!
Heh, this is hilarious! It's pretty fun too, nice job! I think your game is actually pretty well balanced.
I love clicker games, nice! I would suggest adding some more polish for the feedback of clicking. These games get super addictive when you integrate visual feedback. Overall, nice concept! The idea could probably be translated into some kind of a mobile app too. :)
You should totally make this into a mobile game! There are similar games, but nothing exactly like this (that I've found anyway). A win condition would be nice, because there was no real indication that things were looping again. Overall, awesome entry! I hope you pursue this more.
Very awesome game! It's unclear to me whether or not there is a level beyond the intro text - but regardless of that, it was still a lot of fun :) very unique and theme-relevant! Nice job.
Wow! Graphics were great! Challenging, but I really enjoyed it!
This is an amazing entry! It's really innovative, awesome job!
Awesome game!! Very fun!
Awesome idea, I like it :)
I love the literal, unique interpretation of the theme. I got to 313 channels :D awesome job!
Thanks for all the great comments! @Pcholt, no, this wasn't started before :) I just wanted to go with snowman regardless of the actual theme. Though I did try to fit the one screen constraint as well. Kind of.
Awesome game! I love the clever theme usage here, haha. This game is frustratingly unforgiving though. Awesome job though, I played it for quite some time :)
Nice Job! I love the graphics though shooting the enemies is sometimes glitched.
Nice game, very fun!
Awesome! This is better than cookie clicker because, snowmen!! :)
Awesome game! :)
Nice game! I really like the art!
Wow, awesome game! I like everything about this. The music, the sound effects, the unique gameplay mechanics. Very well done. After many tries, the best I could do was 21 seconds before rage-quitting though :( very challenging!
Other than the camera issue, I thought the game was very fun :)
Nice job! Fits the theme well and I had fun playing it :)
Sweet! Nice job though it is quite difficult.
Sweet, I feel like a shepherd of microbes! Very interesting game, it has just the right amount of challenge I think.
Nice idea! A little difficult at first but after you get into it, very fun :)
Fantastic job! That was quite fun. You should consider making this a mobile game or something, because I could see certain people spending a lot of time playing something like this (especially if it was more challenging). I loved the subtle space trivia as well - overall, sweet game!
AMAZING! I love the concept here, it's really great. And I even think this might make a fun mobile game. Also, I am on Linux and it ran mostly fine using Wine, so that's awesome! Except it crashed on the Pig level :( but since my platform is unsupported officially, that's fine. Great job!
Awesome game! I liked the "death" animation for the humanoids.
Woot! I got victory! Lightning kept tripping me up though, oy. Neat idea and well executed. I wish it were infinite though :)
Awesome game! I think if you refined the movement, this could be great on mobile. :D
The original idea was that the sword destroys the world as you use it, but I couldn't implement it to my liking...
Nice job! The music was a bit repetitive but that's okay. Interesting choice of unconventional weapon, hehe.
Great idea! It took me a while to understand what was going on, but when the point of the game clicked I quite enjoyed it. Clever use of the theme!
Really nice graphics. My favorite part is how health is managed. I love that you lose a part of yourself, literally.
Whoa! That was such an awesome, creative idea. I made it to the end and had a lot of fun too! Excellent excellent entry.
Fantastic and clever game! Though I got to Level 2 and after I killed all the aliens, it never progressed :( still, great entry!
Nice game! I really like the idea, it is a pretty unique mechanic and fits the theme really well! I felt like the planet spinner had some kind of trick to know how far you were going to move, but I wasn't able to really figure out what made the planet go fast or slow. But still, love love the idea. Great job!
This is a fun idea! Although the world is pretty brutal haha, losing just 1 battle seals your fate forever. That being said, It is a nice entry :) I would suggest not having the "Return" button end your game (I accidentally clicked it and lost everything). I also agree with @steve-johnson about making more use of the hex grid. But overall, nice job!
Thanks! @alisoncox - that's a great idea! Parallaxing the background would add a subtle but cool effect. @pfeyffer - that would also be a great idea.
I'm planning on making a post-compo version. These are great suggestions, I'll see what I can do :) thanks!
Nice game :) It was a small yet unforgiving world! I would suggest a "health" mechanic so you can have a few chances and then hopefully settle on a "groove". Overall, nice job!
I love this so much!! You have no idea. Although I totally suck at this. Apparently my skill in KSP doesn't translate here :) Fantastic job though. I especially like spacebar to reset. When you're going for "do it right once" that's a pretty natural mechanic. Only suggestion would be to make it slightly easier haha.
