Before I play this...if there is music and the music sounds ANYTHING like *THAT* piece of music then please be advised that I will have no choice but to rate you badly. It's not my fault...it's simply International Law.

aviv871 2017-04-25 12:37

Hye @richard-michael-smith , the game has noting to do with the disney song and of course don't use it. But thanks for the warning.

richard-michael-smith 2017-04-25 12:42

Phew! Well...I'm relieved that the music sounds nothing like *THAT* piece of music (that, quite frankly I would be happy to never hear again).

I like this game. Great pixel art, simple but effective music, and the difficulty progresses well. I have not yet beaten the first QAWS level - I will need to play it some more - and that's a good sign!

I do wonder though...what if I had said "NO" to the hat??? I'll have to play it again to find out! You've certainly got the "replayability" factor!

jk5000 2017-04-25 13:42

This is a very simple and great little LD game. The graphics is okay, but I would have liked a better jumping animation. The music is also okay, but the loop is very short, and that makes the music a bit annoying. To me the best part of game is the story, it is perhaps a bit strange, but it is also really fun. Overall this is a simple and good LD game.

takusan 2017-04-25 20:41

Simple, well made. Could be more polished (animation and sound) - but it's compo, so we all now that time doesn't always allow that. You managed to squeeze in some replayability, and that's a big plus :) My real suggestion would be to support some other resolutions - I'm currently on a laptop with 1366x768 screen and I simply can't see the bottom :) Cheers!

avavt 2017-04-26 11:00

The game was fun and boring.

Control was great and terrible.

The story is intriguing and sleepy.

My stupid laptop keyboard doesn't allow pressing 3 buttons at the same time so I stuck at the second 4-world stage. Will try again when I got my hand on my PC's keyboard.

Wonderful game, it sucks.

2017-04-26 11:10

Very interesting game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation [video series](https://youtu.be/MygbzdcNT_8), if you’d like to take a look :)

thendash 2017-04-27 04:25

I couldn't get past the QWAS section due to my keyboard not allowing more than 3 key presses at once. Consider gamepad support perhaps? Other than that I thought it was very enjoyable.

gozz 2017-04-28 11:12

Fun little game, as some already said the loop is a bit small you it's a bit annoying. As I have a mechanical keyboard I had no issue pressing the buttons.

Good work ;)

yolp900 2017-04-28 22:13

AMAZING!!! What a wonderful game!! It's so... Deep. I love it! Good job! I love it. And you. What?

Good luck at the competition! Fingers crossed!

jushiip 2017-04-29 02:33

Oh noooo  I missed the last (?) line of dialogue when I hit space the game quit itself. Anyways, it was a fun game :D I didn't expect the turn the game took after grabbing the hat. Last bits took couple of tries to get to the flow.

firewill 2017-04-29 08:02

ok I beat it... my keyboard doesnt support more than 2 letter keypresses simultaneously, but by offsetting my presses by about 1 frame I made it... I want everyone to know that it was VERY hard.

[Redacted for spoilers]

I tought the game was actually quite good, starts a bit too slow, and probably ramps the difficulty a bit too fast. The music loop seemed a bit unfitting at the start, but then it properly sets the mood as somewhat creepy, I couldn't help but to replace the man atop the stone with the mask kid from zelda:MM.

graphics were ok I like the mystery man sprite, tough you have some variable pixel size going on, which usually doesnt look very good.

Gameplay was fun and challenging, I enjoyed beating it! also same as jushiip I quit the game and couldnt read the last line I wonder what it said... but no way Im going back >.<

jk5000 2017-05-01 08:19

I have now also rated your game.

richard-michael-smith 2017-05-01 09:55

I feel like I am walking in @jk5000 's footsteps! Like him, I just came back to rate your game!

shiitman 2017-05-01 11:41

I like the graphics and idea overall. But gameplay could be better. Repeating jumps (if you hold "A" a bit longer) make everything confusing. I would like to see better polished post jam version.

takusan 2017-05-01 13:00

Since voting is up, I left you a rating in addition to earlier feedback. Cheers!

jushiip 2017-05-01 13:36

Peek-a-boo! :cat: Came back to leave ratings!

diptoman 2017-05-01 15:34

Heyo, this is a pretty cool little game. It takes a while to take off and I was contemplating quitting at the second runner scene. :P Thankfully I persevered, and it turned out to be a fun story too! Good stuff for 48 hours!

kevtukk 2017-05-01 15:46

I'm still trying to beat this thing, but so far, I had fun.

The animation on the player character is really nice and soundeffects are okay. But i did not like the music. It's a very short loop and it gets old really fast.

Fortunatly the gameplay is still fun, although it is hard as nails.

sharpcoder 2017-05-01 15:51

Nice game :) It was a small yet unforgiving world! I would suggest a "health" mechanic so you can have a few chances and then hopefully settle on a "groove". Overall, nice job!

fakefrogsonly 2017-05-01 16:01

I like the simple concept but I found the jump could do with some more work in order to make it feel more satisfying.

gozz 2017-05-01 16:48

Rated :)

randomhuman 2017-05-01 18:07

STOP OFFERING ME HATS!!!

No, great idea! I found the screen being split in two very satisfying, but I couldn't get my brain or fingers to cooperate with the four-way split screen. But, that's a me problem...

moski 2017-05-02 04:53

Hey there! So I decided to give this game a try. Not bad for your first LD! Done well given the timeframe, and with the proper polish and changes, I could see it becoming something like Bit.Trip Runner or the like.

The game itself starts a bit slow. I actually thought it was going to be just endless numb running with some extra stuff thrown in for variation. But once the screen split, I got the chills. My brain could hardly keep me focused on more than one guy, but that's more my problem than the game's. I actually liked it a lot. Thematically speaking, it was great.

From the art point of view, being the artis of my team makes me want to see what others come up with. The walking animation was smooth, and everything looked like it was made to fit. Just right. No excess, and not failed tries. Nothing memorable either though.

The music and sound effects are the sour part though. I can't give you much feedback on this front though, as I don't know much about making nor finding music. It's numb, and I'd rather be able to turn it off in this case.

Don't get me wrong though. This is something that you should be proud of. This one is a good first jam entry, and I insist, the screen division effect and theme was marvelous. There's a bunch of opportunity for improvement. Keep up the good work!

If you happen to have a Twitter account, do let me know. I like following people around the place, and it'd be great to see what you can come up with next! :whale:

superchihuahua 2017-05-02 06:01

The bottom of the game didnt fit on my 1366x768 screen, but I could still play the game but wasnt sure if I missed something, so next LD you have to think about us hipsters with low-res-screens.

poffle 2017-05-02 11:43

First couple of levels were kinda boring. With 2 screens I found it really fun but 4 screens? Cripes man! These people above me saying their keyboard didn't support it, my brain didn't support it! I had to give up I'm afraid but was intrigued by the story. I liked the way the guy on the rocks kept glitching. I also liked the walk cycle but wasn't too keen on the music. Interesting game though.

npizzle1 2017-05-02 11:46

i love the story in this game the only thing i didn't really like was the jump it didn't feel right. The music loop was short which meant it got quite annoying fast but otherwise well done.

aviv871 2017-05-02 14:02

Hey, @poffle @randomhuman @sharpcoder @kevtukk @jushiip @thendash @takusan @richard-michael-smith

randomhuman 2017-05-02 14:13

@aviv871 Nice, thanks for sharing that!

fouralex 2017-05-02 19:02

Harder with azerty keyboard, but still I enjoy your game!

gleb-mineev 2017-05-02 19:31

Well, the first level feels like chrome built-in game, the last one feels like guitar hero with random song :D The last one was really hard to beat, requires some special state of the mind. Really like the story and the idea.

caterein 2017-05-03 18:06

Really great idea for the theme, and I think you actually made it pretty eerie and creepy! I dig the pixellated art style, and the audio added to the frantic-ness of playing more than 1 character at once. Well done!

red-fan-games 2017-05-04 02:29

Wow! Great idea, I have never seen anything like this before. It was extremely fast paced and a fun struggle to keep up with more than one guy on the screen. Well done!

sean-m 2017-05-04 02:37

This was tough, but very fun! The art style is great, the story is fun. The music gave it a nice creepy vibe that went with the story and the rock dude, thought it was a bit repetitive. All in all nice work! :)

quetzakol 2017-05-07 10:15

Dialogues were a bit long and the music was really repetitive. But apart from that : that was great ! At first the gameplay seemed very basic but when the multiple screens started it became very interesting and fun to play :) ! I am glad I made it to the end :D Graphics are simple but beautiful ! Excellent !

vladik-plays 2017-05-08 18:16

Nice game! I like the animations and the story mode. Very simple game but fun to play. Here's my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/fixville

icxon 2017-05-09 19:10

I cheated and asked a teammate to help me with 2x2 worlds :) we just shared QA/WS.

It's a good story, but I don't have any ideas how to expand this game. Do you have some?

Overall it was fun, thank you.

boudesit 2017-05-12 10:46

Very interesting game, the gameplay can be used for a "rythmic"(Sorry my french) game However the music hurts my ears :/

Good Job !! :)

awesomealliterationalliance 2017-05-12 21:49

I am not sure it is a bug or if it just happens on my keyboard, but i cant press Q,A,W and S at the same time.. So unfortunetly I couldn't play it till the end. I was curious to see how you resolved this storyline. Maybe it sounds a bit strange, but i really like the text animation in this entry. It feels like a typewriter mechanic. Well made. :)

inventroom 2017-05-13 03:45

Multi-player control! Here’s the quick rundown of my thoughts:

PROS - Once you have more than one player at the same time, things get really fun - Meta humor is good

CONS - Music got a bit grating after a while
