My Very Own World by Flipsy 2017-04-29T03:29:12Z
Very cute and fun. :D The narrative was nice, especially when the world healed and then I got to create my very own dance to celebrate the survival!

Some feedback: The player physics feel a bit funky. Sometimes my jump was acting really weird, like it was slingshotting me really high up. Also, the bomb physics are a bit inconsistent. In this one level with the unicorns I tried to leave bomb next to the enemy spawner without success. The bombs just kept rolling away, even though sometimes they stay still?
Other than that, well done! It's a fun little platformer. I liked when I tried spamming the gun to easily kill all enemies - and then realized that the bullets also kill my character. :D
Thanks for trying out our game! Your game looks fun and the graphics seem very cute! Will try it out soon when I get a chance!
Hehe, now I feel like eating pizza. I'm not kidding.
The game is pretty solid. I think the difficulty is quite well balanced, but sometimes feels a bit unforgiving. Like, when playing well and then after a single mistake you cannot recover, due to the time limit. (maybe give a sliiightly bigger starting time) Or maybe I just suck! I don't know. Not sure if that's a bad thing or not, I do like the challenge. I am curious what are the developers best scores?
Anyways, I think this was a really good entry overall; the graphics, gameplay, difficulty and sounds all made it a coherent experience. I especially liked the explosion sound. I only had some minor UI bugs, but other than that, well done guys!!!
Came back to leave ratings! :cat:
Damnit , got to make one call and talk with OnΓ© Beay, but I was too nervous and just ended up chit chatting - and then it was too late.
The dialogue was quite fun! I wonder how much randomization there is in the play, or is there just one path to take?
Anyways, solid entry!
Nice little metroidvania! :) Found the Thank You message! Only thing that bothered me during gameplay was how the jumping physics behaved. Other than that, nice entry!
Good job on working on your own engine. :)
The controls were a bit confusing to me - I think adding strafe for A and D would make it a bit easier to control the character.
Beat the game! Damn when the dark star appeared it was really scary. Hahaha! :D Very intimidating mood you have there.
Nice entry, well done!
Really cool stuff! Loving the pixel art style you guys got going on. All levels until 6 didn't really need any thinking / strategy, so I just slammed stuff around and got past those levels. 6 was a bit more tricky - and I gave up on level 7.
Overall, good job! Looks really polished and this game would probably work well on mobile platforms. You guys should keep on polishing this.
The best thing about this game imo was definitely the mood. It pulls you in straight away. The music is spot on with the game's atmosphere - reminds me a bit of Machinarium.
Very good entry! I wish I could see the consequences in the ending. :)
Oh and I almost forgot, the backgrounds are gorgeous!
Damn. Really wanted to try this.
Got this with Windows 10 and launching in Windows 7 compatibility mode.
error.png
Nice, reminded me a bit of the first Zelda.
This is not supposed to happen after beating the game.. right? :D
map.png
Yay! Love the smooth controls and also sound effect for shooting, very juicy combined with the screenshake. Got 89 points!. Good job!
For me it was very disorienting to control the turning of the snake. I think for this type of game a top-down view would work better. Other than that, good job! :sunglasses:
Quite nice game - the 3 bullet limit and the reload time makes it quite tricky! :D I died around the second "stage" where you have to collect 3x of each item for the spaceship. Was that the last objective before winning?
That was fun. Very Katamari-like! Me likes! I wanted to attach myself to the sun. :(
Nice entry!
Oh noooo  I missed the last (?) line of dialogue when I hit space the game quit itself. Anyways, it was a fun game :D I didn't expect the turn the game took after grabbing the hat. Last bits took couple of tries to get to the flow.
Peek-a-boo! :cat: Came back to leave ratings!
Played couple of rounds with ROXIE. Didn't manage to beat the game though :D I was clicking around a lot to mine resources ending up using a lot of turns. It felt like Titanium was quite hard to gather, or maybe I was doing something wrong. Overall a fun game idea.
Came back to leave ratings!! :cat:
Nice, pretty cool minimalistic rhythm game. One of my favourite games of LD38 so far. Not sure how well it fits the small world theme though. Well, the interpretation can be quite loose! :D
I noticed Unity WebGL builds work only on my laptop, but not on my PC. I wonder why that is.. Both have Chrome. t_t
Overall nice entry! Who doesn't like collecting space ship parts? Only downsides, like others have already mentioned, are the controls and camera. It's especially difficult to steer in space. :D I liked that you actually "physically" had to bring the parts using the ropes.
part.png
Where is it?
Peek-a-boo! :cat: Came back to leave ratings!
I don't understand why my Chrome gives me a prompt "Your browser does not support WebGL" - even though Chrome most definitely supports it.. Cries t_t wanted to try this one.
Good job, even though you didn't manage to finish the game, you almost always learn something new as a reward! Next time will be easier!
Lovely game. Got killed by an evil butterfly and planted 29/30 trees. :cat:
Reminds me of games like Flower. :)
The music was pretty. Though in the ending song I just kept thinking about this: https://youtu.be/12R48a6DNz8?list=PLCgAiCry9o3qIFF1AUivzlGnpGC5R36Qa&t=32
Hey! Nice game. I like the wacky art style. The controls feel a bit too stiff to my taste, for example when doing precision jumping puzzles. I didn't really feel that I had much control over them jumps. Also, I'm not a fan of the character not moving with the platforms! :D Besides that, it's a nice entry!
Nice little strategy game. Experienced some bugs, but it was overall really smooth experience. (I tried to attack but nothing happened? or maybe it was just me doing something wrong) I like the gameplay, but I think it would need a bit more depth to be more interesting in the long run. Too bad you are not planning to work on this, I think it has a lot of potential. :)
Good job! :D I wish it had more riddles, I liked them much more than avoiding the hazards.
What a lovely game. I am a sucker for smooth platformer controls and for simple game mechanics that provide interesting gameplay through good level design. Besides that I especially love the color palette and the graphic style in general. Good job!
Btw there is this tiny bug where you can enter the house while you are carrying it - allowing you leave them midair. With the same bug I was able to glitch myself through the world colliders.
glitch.png
Unfortunately it doesn't launch for me. :(
Untitled.png
Nice entry! I am a sucker for games where you get to destroy things. I think the gameplay would feel more satisfying if there was more physics involved, like, if the objects would actually break and stuff would fly around! :) Good job!
Very nice idea! I got around 6100 points on my first playthrough. Everything went really smoothly until it was hard to survive in the bottom area, where I ended losing up all my lives by falling continuously. The controls feel smooth and the platforming feels quite nice. Good job!
Haha, cute little game. Becomes very difficult as the speed increases. I like the hand drawn sprites! :D
Maybe the collider of the bus could be slightly smaller?
I noticed the .bat didn't run if I had spaces in my file path. I don't know much about Ruby so I don't know if it's easy to fix or not.
Anyways, like @huvaakoodia said, the inability to wait a turn was bothering the gameplay experience a bit. Also, I kinda wanted to move quickly around, and in levels with lot's of enemies, there's an awkward pause when you wait for the enemies to move one by one. Besides those points, it's a nice game! Why is the character so sad though? :D
Peek-a-boo! :cat: Came back to leave ratings!
Got 77050. Nice entry! Maybe you want to check out ours too. We also did a twin stick shooter! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/quantum-catburetor
Did you consider keeping a static camera and not making it rotate with the player? Might be worth trying out. :)
Good entry! Reminded me of Dungeon Keeper, which also has you building rooms for food and resting, and has you drag and dropping your minions.
Overall pretty nice little RTS, I played only the tutorial and the second level. Some of the ant sprites seem to be bugging - like, turning completely black?
Well done for your first entry! One thing I could suggest is rendering the NPC character textboxes over the shadow, so you don't have to adjust the character position to read it. Also, was there a reason the player is not centered to the "light radius area"?
Good job! I didn't see the sun at all during my playthrough.
Thanks for playing our game! I would try yours but the Chrome on my PC doesn't run WebGL for some reason. :/
I liked the game. Some concerns: I didn't feel like the A / D wind push was helping me much, maybe the force could be stronger - or the cool down smaller. Also, what's the point of the tidal wave? Does it help to cool down the survivors?
They could have just swum (not sure about my English grammar) to the city! It was RIGHT next to them! :D
Good job! Really liked your game. I had fun in one round when I was able to upgrade the speed and guns quite early, then I just kept driving around the planet in one direction and shooting non-stop.
Anyways, very good design! The controls are very smooth. It's quite hard to aim in the beginning due to the hexagonal ground, but after you grab some powerups, it becames much easier.
@drazil100 thanks a lot for taking time to give us creative feedback! + playing the game on your stream!
> "As you lose more and more health the game world gets smaller and this is a really cool concept however at the same time the less and less health you have the harder and harder it is to stay alive."
Actually this also bothers us - and during the development, we almost considered dropping the idea and just keep the world "big" at all times. In the end we decided to go with it because we wanted to stay with the initial shrinking world idea + health system. We also wanted to try keep it true to the *small world* theme.
Thanks for playing and thank you for the kind comments everybody!
@huvaakoodia, @samurai-spark & @joyfired MEOW!
@m-1 Oh no, too bad you didn't play with a controller!! I can imagine it's very difficult on using a track pad.
@elzach, @zhal was responsible of creating our custom shaders. There are no post-processing effects used in the game! Killing enemies does restore health - but it's a very small amount compared to picking up a health pack. Killing a single enemy doesn't affect that much, but after you pick up a good weapon which can quickly blast through groups of enemies, you can increase the health more quickly.
@joyfired, @querk (concerning graphics) Yup, you can see some weird shit happening with the graphics, especially in the upper part of the view frustum. Our world is kinda warped, like a bowl (see the gifs here: https://t.co/YKf0bLFVK9) and the camera angle is slightly tilted. It's something that can be improved I guess but we left as it is for the build.
@richard-michael-smith Yeah, those two things are something that would need to be addressed if we updated the game. It becomes quite difficult to recover when the world shrinks. We almost scrapped the idea (cos it bothered us too) and replaced it with more traditional health system, but in the end we decided to keep it to stay true to the jam theme. The best way to avoid the problem right now is to.. GIT GUD! :nerd:
@slimabob, @elykyevrah, @quoclon, thank you for the kind words! :)
@amnonlevi Nope, not a bug! The world will be only generated if you move (meaning enemies will also *only* spawn if you move) If you don't move, you will eventually die because the world keeps getting smaller.
Yayyy! First RTS I have tried in LD38, beat it with all difficulties! Good entry, fun and simple gameplay and stays true to the theme in my opinion.
Love the graphics! Very cute. I think it would be much easier to play on a flat keyboard though. Quite hard to play on my current one.
Peek-a-boo! :cat: Came back to leave ratings!
Awwwww. My PC's Chrome can't handle WebGL for some weird reason. Will try if you upload a Windows build!
I liked the graphics and the idea, but I have similar concerns like @fiery-squirrel. The effort you have to go through to get to the honeycomb is a bit too much. Maybe bring the hive closer and make the journey there a bit more quick (maybe the bee can descend and ascend faster?). Also, maybe you shouldn't lose all your honey if the enemy hits you.
Not really my type of game, but it was quite fun to have an indirect "control" of the microbes by increasing different stats and watching how they behave. :)
Peek-a-boo! :cat: Came back to leave ratings!
Quite cool and a difficult game. The big bodies steal your particles really easily! :D I got 261 as my highscore.
Really fun entry! But then again I am a sucker for arcade type games. Got 10100 as my best score. I like that the planet gets smaller and smaller as it gets bombarded. I am curious how the game plays out when the planet is almost completely destroyed. :D
Cool game. We have a shrinking world in our game too. Though it's a twin stick shooter, not an RTS.
I was very confused on where my troops are getting built? They seemed to just randomly appear at some barracks. I captured all the control points and I though it would count as winning - instead nothing happened. I kept playing for a while and apparently won somehow?
Also it seemed like the barracks cost was quite cheap. I could just keep spamming them until I got tired! :D
Anyways good job, making an RTS for a short game jam can be quite a challenge.
I really liked this. The graphics are cute and I liked the colors of the blocks. Only thing that bothered me about the graphics was that the player/blocks weren't perfectly centered on the grid!
What comes to gameplay, I wish the area would only shrink after you throw a block. Did you try this during development? Or did you plan for it to shrink in real-time from the beginning?
Anyways, overall a really solid entry, and I liked it a lot.
Hey! It seems like the itch.io links are broken..?
Like @nikorasuchan already said, the aiming is a bit awkward, especially when there's an enemy close to you, you have to tweak the camera angle to make the ball hit.
Also, where is all the snow!?
It also took a while to understand the purchase mechanism. Other than that, it was a fun game. :D
Very fun game! Some variety in car types might make it more interesting. Like buses or trucks :)
I liked the snappy sword mechanic, it felt really fun and responsive to use. I also liked the variety of different types of enemies.
The art style was a bit incoherent, with pixel art and some more "realistic" looking graphics like the explosions and the portals mixed together. Also, with Megaman-like music this game would have been more fun!
Haha, finally a Ludum Dare simulator.
Fun little game and cute and colourful graphics! :) That sound effect on the crocodile instantly put a smile on my face. Can't really think of anything to criticize.
I would really like to try this but unfortunately it crashes after pressing space on the intro screen (Using Windows 8.1)

@surue, heh thanks!
Yeah, unfortunately we ran out of time trying to balance and playtest it. We also had planned more abilities, like one to increase traffic in certain tiles (rush hour ability), but we just didn't have enough time..
@miaw thanks for making the video! I'm happy you like the game! We wanted to make a "chill" game where you can relax and watch as the traffic does it's thing. :)
@smbe19 heh! the balance is a bit off, we nailed the mechanics down on the last day and were left with to little time to actually balance the game.
@ghodan <3
@finntastico, I look into making a mac build. currently we can't test it ourselves though!
@imphenzia the time acceleration is a good idea! we didn't even consider such thing. yup, to make a full, and more interesting game, the game requires more mechanics and abilities to play with! when you put the speed limit thing on a cross road, cars which pass through it should get a tiny speed boost
@kabalatrance thanks! :)
@differentname, thank you <3
@chriiis88 thank you!! yup the game definitely needs variation on the crossroad tiles to make it more intesting! but you know, LD time limitations
@dunin thanks for playing! yeah, we planned more abilities and such but didn't have time to implement them. also the game would need some variety in the levels (also like maybe different cars do different things; i.e. a firetruck that speeds through the roads and turns of the red lights)
@vfabien21 thanks for the feedback! yup the game needs more variety in levels/mechanics/abilities. but you know, LD time limits
@foolmoron thanks! <3
@amy-ballinger, thank you! <3
@laylow hehehe thank you! yeah, adding other powerups, cars and level tiles the game would definitely be more interesting! maybe in each level you need to reach a certain rank to pass it. then additionally also a endless arcade mode :)
@jeromwaaron Thanks! The balance is a bit off currently. We wanted to include "rush hour" ability that allowed you to increase the amount of traffic to tackle this issues. Unfortunately we didn't have time to implement it..
@gruhh Thanks for the kind words!
@bonelazy I haven't experienced Istanbul traffic, but I lived past three years in Kuala Lumpur and the traffic there can be horrible :D
Played two times. First I tried by killing (almost) everyone, and couldn't beat the boss. Is there a way to beat him?
On second playthrough I went as pacifist and was actually able to finish the game.
I really liked the BGM and and the overall mood. Only negative thing that comes to my mind is that the trees threw me off, I wasn't sure what trees I can hit with a sword and what not. (probably cos it was the same sprite, I think)
Nice! Good job on finishing your first Ludum Dare. I was able to kill like 70+ slimes.
With music you could have made the game's mood a bit better. Was there a reason you didn't include any music?
Ok. Let me preface this by saying that this is not a biased review (since I know you in person).
I really loved the game, the combination of mood, graphics and the interesting gun/charge mechanic works really well. I especially loved the shockwave gun which allowed me to kill enemies lurking around corners. The animations and sounds make shooting/killing stuff especially satisfying. (I love the animations!)
I would have loved to have a minimap (metroidvania style) that shows me where I have already been. Only thing that currently helped me to navigate was the bloodstains on the ground.
Hopefully you turn this into a full game! Best game I've played so far in LD40.
Edit: oh and I killed the end boss! :D
Nice! Very unique game! :smiley_cat: I haven't played a game with this kind of concept before. You could definitely make a mobile game out of it. Good job. Oh yeah, my score was 186.
Nice game! It had very polished feel with the font picks & audio effects. I especially liked the FTL style level progression (I assume you were inspired by it..?). :smiley_cat: Good job!
I really liked the gameplay, art and the mood - and it was so chill to play lying in bed since you only need mouse input. I think it has a lot of potential and I would love to see a full game made with this idea.
Cute little game. The game is a bit too short. Maybe making it endless by randomly spawning obstacles could make it more interesting? In the parts where it was possible to jump it would have been nice if the gravity was also more heavier, so you could feel the difference better. Now it seemed like I didn't even have to use the jump button in those parts and instead I just floated and pushed the obstacles away.
running.png
Alright. Played through it! I liked the graphics, even though they are a bit rough, they had a lot of personality, like the crawl and respawn animations. I also liked how you implemented the jam theme with the floppy collection / loading. I had some issues with the moving platforms though (dropping through them and getting stuck) but overall a nice entry. Good job!
Hahaha :D awesome, like someone commented already: relatable. Nice concept and I loved the graphics and the comments from the grandma. I didn't expect so dark ending though! :smile_cat:
@lamossus I agree with you, I think especially Colony is very OP. We implemented the tech tree quite late and only started balancing the game in the last hours of the jam.. I'm just in midst doing my first proper play myself (having the game paused atm). Anyways, I'm still happy it's not too difficult so you can spend time looking at the pretty planets and listening to the BGM.
cauldron.png
I know it was previously discussed, but yeah, the game balance is a bit off. It's like there's no room for error and you have to constantly move perfectly and collect the same items. :smiley_cat: Anyways, I did like the art (very cute!) and music. Music reminded me of touhou soundtracks. Nice job!
