Those Scissors though xD how amazing!
Love the scissors! they're the best part! hahaha thanks for the comment my friend :D
this game. it made me rage a little. which is good! how can i be so invested in a green little pile of snott?? xD the last part was pretty challenging all things concidered xD I needed about 5+ tries xD good first game, my friend!
pretty decent first entry I reckon. I like the scissors. The last level hated me for a moment. ;)
I liked the riddles - level 3 got me for a second! It was an entertaining little 10 minute game, really pretty good for a first entry!
the riddle levels are the best, try to put more of these next time :)
@burgee thanks a lot for checking out my game and playing it, I appreciate it, also thank you for the feedback. Glad you liked it and had at least a small challenge.
@Aurelien thanks for checking out my game and for the feedback. I tried to have some variety in the game so it's not just one thing over and over since the idea was that the weird blob thing was undergoing different tests. But I'm very happy to hear feedback and opinion on what was the best, I'm glad you liked the riddle levels. I think the scissors riddle was kind of bad :( Thanks again for the feedback!
Good job! :D I wish it had more riddles, I liked them much more than avoiding the hazards.
@jushiip thanks for checking out my game and for the feedback. It seems like riddles were loved by a lot more people than I anticipated honestly :D good to know and hear that people enjoyed them so much, I honestly thought that it was going to be the least favorite part of the game by most but I'm happy to hear that I was wrong. Thanks again :D
Heading off to bed, I would like to thank everyone in advance who will be leaving feedback and will be rating my game for taking your time to check out my first entry. I hope you all enjoy it and please tell me your favorite level and why, I will appreciate it. Cheers and good luck everyone!
When I saw the first level, I though it was gonna be a boring maze game. But then it got more interesting and the last level was actually quite challenging. My favorite level was level 4 I think, because it hit the right level of challenge for me. The idea to make everything based on stationery is quite cool. It is a bit to easy to get stuck on things though. A solid entry though, well done!
The last level was pretty hard :). This game is really nice, very interesting art style, but it kinda works. There was an interesting combination of game mechanics, I liked the riddles (they were quite easy though). On the last level I got tripped up a few times, like the pencil that comes "just" out of the top of the ruler.
Anyway, really nice entry.
Thanks,
Ned
A simple but relatively engaging experience, the highlight was definitely the riddle based levels, kind of like a more interactive 'find the object' gameplay experience.
|+ The riddle based levels were smart and felt fun as a result.
|- The movement was very rigid, making the levels where the only objective was to move in some manner dull.
? If you made the movement more fluid and had the goal be a combination of finding an object based on a riddle, then reaching a destination that could create an overall stronger experience, well done for your first LD :), goodluck for your future endeavors.
The music was good, I liked it! The graphics are good enough but could use some work (obviously not the focus here so thats ok). It boils down to a maze game that remembers me of a really old game I once played. Liked it!
Nice little game. after the first level I was expecting it to be a simple get to the exit maze type thing, but you changed up the gameplay a lot between levels! Like others, I liked the use of riddles. A couple of feedback points:
- The variety of levels and game mechanics is nice but it introduces inconsistency in objectives and if you were to make more levels, this could result in the player getting confused about what they're supposed to do. To remedy this you should try to make sure the player is always trying to achieve the same thing. For example it took me a while to even notice the buttons on Level 5. You could use the button and door mechanic from the very beginning, and simply have it so that the player only needs to hit one button to begin with. Then for riddle levels you could still have closed doors, but the buttons are hidden behind the riddle objects.
- You should try to make hazardous and non-hazardous objects more distinct. In the first few levels you can touch everything without penalty and then suddenly all those same objects are hazardous to touch in levels 4 and 5. Maybe just dangerous looking things (Scissors, sharpener etc) could be hazardous to touch and safe things (pencils, rulers, paper) coould be used for barriers.
Anyway nice work and well done!
The idea is pretty solid and I liked the levels. However, the first few levels were too easy and the last level was too hard compared to the previous levels. Also, it was impossible to die in the first two/three levels which made them quite easy. Perhaps the points of the pencil and scissors would kill you as well? That way there is a little more challenge to it.
I enjoyed the gameplay a lot, good level variety although level 5 did seem borderline impossible. I do agree with swiftillusion the movement should have been more fluid. Art maybe could have used more variety on the desk like stapler or a book. Music was ok. Good work on your first ludum dare.
It was a fun little game, about all I can say about it. Everything seemed to work as it should, things were recognizable at least. I'm programmer myself, so the last thing I'm gonna do is bash a compo entry for having programmer art, you do what you can do with the time allotted. You created a fun little game that functions as intended for your first LD, I think that's a win for sure. I look forward to your future submissions.
The gameplay was simple but played exactly as it needed to. I enjoyed playing through it, although the difficulty jumped up a lot at the end, but it's hard to strike the difficulty balance in such a short space of time. The only other problem I had was in the riddle levels that there were copies of the correct answer that didn't work, it seems like if there is one right answer there should only be one object, but you mentioned it in your description anyway. Great job overall!
Fun riddles! :)
Differently interesting,
I enjoyed the riddles. feel like there should have been more!
The Biggest issue I had with the game was the movement. when moving around while next to something it would stop me every second or so which was very strange and that the game window was larger than my screen.
Also the Riddle text was hard to read, if you put them on that notepad paper it would make it much more readable and perhaps make it look a bit bigger.
I liked the riddle levels the most, but that's because I don't like timing games. You could have written something useful in the notes as easter eggs! It is simple althought still fun, and the music is relaxing.
Interesting game! The riddle levels saved what I at first thought to be a rather bland game. Changing the game mechanics multiple times kept me invested in the game.
One thing I did not understand about the riddle levels, was that there were multiple objects of the kind you hinted to, but only one of them was the goal. A more interesting movement mechanic (involving some inertia and bounce, for instance) would have done a lot for the game. The moving obstacles in the last two levels had the tendency to produce some pretty long off times for me, as they could swing out of phase pretty quickly. Setting the animation times to multiples of each other would help a lot, I think.
Good job on your game!
This was an interesting idea, and a cool way to take the theme.
The riddle levels were fun. I thought those were fairly clever. The first moving objects level was interesting, and a good way to introduce the mechanic of moving objects being harmful. The fifth level was interesting, but it was too easy to get caught up on objects, which lead to some deaths that were hard to prevent.
Overall I've had a lot of fun with the game, and look forward to seeing what you'll do next!
I'd like to thank everyone for your detailed feedback about the things I did right and wrong, I'm once again really impressed to hear that so many people liked the riddle levels, dpeending on next theme I might try a riddle only game to see how much people like that. I appreciate all feedback and I've learned a lot from all of your feedback, i'll work on better and smoother movement mechanics as well as make sure I dont just skyrocket the difficulty and suddenly make objects which were once safe into hazardous. I also learned that introduction of new mechanics and things to do in the game while can keep people interested and busy shouldn't be done so suddenly. I've learned a lot from this, thank you all once again.
Wow I didn't expect so many combinations of mechanics in one game. Mazes, riddles, bullethell and stealth (level 5 felt to me like a stealth game, I was imagining pencils and rulers being guards on patrol XD) This was a nice and clever 10 minutes experience that I never felt bored. My only problem was the collisions with the immovable objects made me stuck a little. And graphics weren't that bad, only the colour pallet was a bit too saturated to be easy on the eyes. Overall great job, especially for your first LD. Good luck.
You were clearly eager to do a lot of things with your game and it's a really good thing ! It's really simple yet weirdly engaging. But the music got on my nerves reaaaaally fast.
Aside from that I encourage you to continue creating games, it's a good start full of creatives ideas !
The game just gets crazy after level 3, but I like it! The changes after each level came absolutely unexpected. :D
