LD38 — A Small World

STEEL GEAR CHAOS by FireSlash 2017-05-02T13:55:03Z

That was pretty cool! Took me a couple deaths to figure out what I was meant to be doing, but once I got over that little bump I had a lot of fun with this. I particularly like the fact that you have a visible pilot.

The graphics are good, the music is awesome, and the sound effects definitely got the job done. Keep up the great work!

For The Love Of Money by KunoNoOni 2017-05-01T22:23:50Z

Game was a fun little platformer. Decent level of challenge. The platform walking was a little weird but not difficult to do at all. Keep up the good work!

Tub of War by quill18 2017-05-02T18:13:59Z

I saw your lead-up and postmortem. This game is pretty great. Still getting better bit by bit at it myself, but that's a top-caliber arcade game right there. Good graphics, hilarious sounds (sure beats SFXR!) and solid gameplay.

Keep doing what you do, Quill. You've definitely got the talent for it.

A lot of life in a small world by smdeveloper 2017-05-02T17:50:55Z

This is a really cool simulation in the making. I like the detail and thought you put into keeping the animals alive.

With some more work and expanded mechanics, I honestly think this will be a great game. Keep up the great work!

World Destroyer by Move127 2017-05-01T14:15:11Z

Really neat game. The added mechanics as time went on was cool, though I personally struggled with the level with all the varying alien heights. That's a problem on my end, though, so keep up the great work!

Ship in a Bottle by Tero Pulkkinen 2017-05-01T13:43:48Z

This is a really cool piece of art. The effects are cool too. Good job!

Carefulzilla by glimaleite 2017-05-05T04:05:32Z

This was a lot of fun, and a really clever take on the theme. Once I figured out the brown things were like platforms I did a whole lot better. 95 deaths, 64k in damages... I'm sure I could do even better though!

King of the world by Linus 2017-05-06T14:50:06Z

This was a really interesting concept. The idea of a real-time turn-based game similar to Risk was an interesting idea to work with, and I think overall it works really well. I'm terrible at it, but I generally had fun.

CircuitWorld by Multitudes22 2017-05-02T14:23:38Z

That was an interesting little puzzle game. I'm pretty sure I forced my way through some of the later ones (I'd have blown the battery up) but that was a lot of fun, and had a nice educational message to boot.

Keep up the great work!

Microchip IO by ping78 2017-05-15T20:49:52Z

Pretty cool idea. Reminds me a lot of Shenzhen I/O, but without the coding aspect. Admittedly I don't know enough about circuitry to do some of those but it was fun seeing what it could do. Well done!

Mallows World Adventure by geeitsomelaldy 2017-05-01T19:22:58Z

I've never had the opportunity to play the original Dizzy games (American and was late to getting a computer), but now that I've played your game I want to! A nice simple exploration adventure. The music was awesome -- I quite liked it.

Keep up the great work!

An Ant World by wolar 2017-05-01T19:06:21Z

This is an interesting idea that I'm really bad at. I didn't die very quickly or anything but it seemed to take me a while to get up to speed (and I sent my soldiers to their deaths very early on and didn't realize I had sent them against a beast of an insect).

Still, for over-scoping as you've admitted that was really impressively done. Reminds me of the idea behind the ancient Maxis game SimAnt.

Keep up the great work!

Planet Heist by conk 2017-05-01T14:43:39Z

I am really terrible at this game, but I love the idea of a turn-based stealth game. The graphics were awesome and the music was fitting. The game is quite difficult, but that's not a bad thing.

Keep up the great work!

Scenes in a Globe by nratcliff 2017-04-27T04:31:18Z

This is really clever. I like that the music switches when you change scenes. Keep up the great work!

Toy Time Turbo by BadRAM 2017-05-01T01:07:52Z

This was quite a bit of fun. I really like the idea of racing around a bedroom. Physics can be rough, so I understand the issues had with control. Keep up the good work!

Commander's Log by smbe19 2017-05-01T14:36:35Z

That was pretty cool! I didn't last very long (maybe I should have held off on that second solar panel on Day 1) but that's a really clever idea that was well executed. Keep up the good work!

Little Remains by nilead 2017-05-01T16:42:46Z

This game is absolutely gorgeous. While I'm not normally one for adventure games, this was genuinely impressive. The graphics and music were great, and the concept is overall really well done. My biggest complaint is that the items don't highlight if they're interactable when you get close. Keep up the great work!

LOST PLANET(oid) by mrnyarlathotep 2017-05-01T19:34:47Z

The game looks like Commander Keen and an overhead shooter were combined for a fun experience. The only issue I really had was that the camera didn't switch to some screens for a little while after I moved offscreen. It was a minor issue but one that was was easy to get past.

Keep up the great work!

Polar Protector by AlexHoratio 2017-05-01T13:38:06Z

That was awesome! Really fast paced, and the elements mechanic is really interesting. Took me a moment to realize like destroys like but once I figured that out the game was an absolute blast!

Congratulations on an amazing game!

Techno Tenement by madlee 2017-05-01T15:53:18Z

I had fun giving this game a look. The graphic style is quite unique, and the gameplay, while simple, is a lot of fun. I've never been that great at management games but the variety and themes that they can have are awesome.

Keep up the good work!

A Small Earth by Skywilly 2017-05-01T13:10:03Z

The mechanic for the little game were interesting and I understand what you were aiming for, but the political spin, as appropriate as it might be, detracted from the game in my opinion.

That being said, content like this still needs to be made. If you have a message and people are willing to listen, then there's no reason not to spread the message.

Newton's Cannon by xykvy 2017-05-01T19:51:59Z

Fun little arcade game with really neat gravity mechanics! I liked the graphics and sound as well.

Keep up the great work!

Wake Up ! by GoZz 2017-05-01T13:34:05Z

Your game is gorgeous, and the dimension switch was really cool (and creepy)! Keep up the great work!

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-04-26T03:48:57Z

@xxdoombox, @move127, thank you for trying the game, and for the input. I agree, there need to be more enemy types. I think a lot of time went into me figuring out how to get the Bomber enemy type to work. The base Collider AI just looks for the nearest target and goes towards it. I wanted the Bomber to do much the same, but had difficulty getting a solid method of avoiding repeats (otherwise it'd find a tower and just place repeated bombs at that tower until it died). Had I not struggled with that particular enemy AI I'd have probably had enough time to come up with a fourth enemy type, though in hindsight right now I'm not sure what I'd have implemented. Maybe an enemy that does a single pass and drops weaker versions of the bomb onto any towers it happens to come into range with? I do know the game needs more enemies that antagonize the player. The Colliders are trivial and the Shooters are really only a threat in large numbers or when they have the spread shot. Regardless, I definitely plan on taking this game further than this with some more art and more scoring mechanics, as I was hoping for bonus points per remaining tower at the end but didn't have the chance to implement it.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-01T06:07:03Z

@kfischer-okarin: The game is a score attack. The game over state is always reached the same way, but the amount of time you have to play depends on how much penalty time you rack up by losing towers. As for the effect of the field shrinking: Flying outside of the arena would very quickly drain your health. The idea was to confine you to a smaller world as time went by.

Thank you everyone for the input. I'm really happy that people are enjoying my first foray into 48-hour game making. There are a few things I'd like to improve on (the powerups do get too powerful) but I want to hold off on doing so until after judging just so that I don't accidentally try and fix something that doesn't belong in the Compo/RebindableKeys versions of the game.

I also definitely want to add bonus points based on how many towers remain at the end. It feels like that would make the score attack just that much more compelling.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-01T15:28:13Z

@madlee That gives me an idea, actually. Perhaps if you hold off on shooting your bullet size grows. Also it'd be neat to put shields on the towers, so this mixed in with the other feedback is giving me a very firm foundation to take the game post-judging.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-01T15:33:20Z

@nilead I can see that! Haha. I wanted to add more detail to the towers but ran out of time.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-01T15:40:53Z

@swiftillusion Yeah, the retargeting for the Collider enemy type was an attempt to make it easier to deal with them since they go towards the outer towers a little too easily. If you can get between them and their target for long enough they'll go through another retargeting loop and you can actually start kiting them around while you shoot them.

The bombers definitely need some work. Targeting something at random, or even something deliberately far away, would make them more interesting than just rushing the closest tower to blow it up.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-01T20:02:15Z

@nathan Yet another thing I forgot to reset in my `NewGame()` function. Whoops! Good catch! I guess it's a New Game Plus for now? Haha. Unintended as it may be, it's not game breaking enough to warrant a patch to the Compo version like only being able to hit play once without a refresh/restart was.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-01T21:54:51Z

@scriptorum I actually had a reticle cursor set for the game, but somehow it didn't work on the WebGL version. I have absolutely no idea why. Going to look that up now, though. **Edit:** Just looked this up and there's an issue in Unity's issue tracker for the cursor not showing up in WebGL in v5.6.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-02T17:35:16Z

@sebasrez Yeah, my biggest regret is that I didn't have the chance to add an intro of some kind to the game, even a text one. A few things (the bomber's tower AI comes to mind) took longer than I'd have liked, and left me with less time for an instructions/intro screen. The things I've learned from this one will definitely be put in practice so that I'm better at them come the next LD.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-02T17:43:36Z

@zorg I actually originally intended on the platform falling apart in chunks, rather than the "shrink" that happens now. The problem that I was having, though, is that I couldn't figure out how to do it well within the time I had allocated. The shrinking from the outside compromise did work, but definitely isn't my favorite way to do it. I might actually try and experiment with the basic idea this game set up for something more complex.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-09T23:18:27Z

I definitely plan to continue developing this game into something more -- once the judging is over. At that point I'll be updating the game with a bunch of ideas inspired by feedback. I'll probably split that update apart from the current itch.io project just to keep a version in existence for history.

@takusan: Thank you for the feedback! I've been keeping an eye on the feedback I've gotten, and a lot of this helps. I'm hoping to actually do quite a comprehensive update once I'm able to.

@gamepopper: When you die you come back after 5 seconds. Enough time for some enemies to spawn in and wreck some towers. :) Unless you didn't ever respawn, in which case there's a terrible bug that I somehow missed...

Globey's Revenge by gamesplusjames 2017-05-01T13:22:01Z

Rollin' around at the speed of *squish.* Also throwing people because hucking humans at things is hilarious.

That was fun. And a really creative twist on the theme. Controls for the loop were a little awkward but the game was a lot of fun!

Pollux by fatPenguin 2017-05-01T15:16:48Z

That was super cool! I like the build-up mechanic. You can create a pretty awesome planet that way. :D Graphics and sound were both great too. I just needed to remember to put the first volcano in a better spot. Still made it through even with the sub-optimal setup!

LD38 - Big Dreams by Iron Leonem 2017-05-01T06:26:20Z

I was a spaceman once. Then I shot dinosaurs and army men until they overwhelmed me.

That was really fun. Nice little survival shooter with a good difficulty curve.

"It's a small world!" by szczebel1995 2017-05-01T06:22:38Z

This is a really clever game. Reminds me of the "Where's Waldo"/"Where's Wally" books when I was growing up. Very clever use of the theme too! It was tough trying to approach people without bumping others, but the game still worked really well.

Blocknauts! by EndlessPlumber 2017-05-01T05:42:28Z

This was pretty fun! I quite liked flying around picking up parts. Watching the rope tether drag the parts around was pretty impressive too.

Only complaint, like everyone else has mentioned, was the camera. (I played the LD version.)

Keep up the great work! I'll check out the Post-LD version sometime soon.

Rogue Basement by Steve Johnson 2017-05-01T18:44:29Z

That was quite a lot of fun. I quite enjoy roguelikes and that was a neat twist on the idea. The timing involved in rock throwing adds a really cool level of depth where you have to predict your foes' movement.

I also found the basement theme a really cool twist on the "Small World" theme.

Took me a couple moments to find my `@` when I first loaded the game, but that's a product of a visual impairment, not your game.

P L A N E T O R U S by cottontshirtz 2017-05-01T14:51:40Z

That was a wild experience. Nice work with the camera, and the torus mapping! I noticed I sunk into the bumpiness a time or two, and I'm not sure if the game would have played better with a controller or not, but I had fun with this one! Keep up the great work!

Super Small-io World! by micahcowan 2017-05-06T14:28:00Z

This was a pretty cool idea! Getting that whole gravity system to work had to be quite a challenge. The graphics were amusing, the music was silly but worked well. There were times when it felt like there was little I could do against the enemies, but overall I liked the game a lot.

Keep up the great work!

Monolith by samlo 2017-05-01T15:21:44Z

That was really cool looking! Had trouble locking on without getting shot but that was a lot of fun!

Miniverse by sebasrez 2017-05-02T15:32:51Z

I wonder, if I shout "Battle Grid" can I get away with throwing miscellaneous objects at people?

That was really cool. A neat little row-based strategy game with the great idea that you can carry your weapons around with you on your tiny planet.

The pixel graphics were great. I loved it. The music and sound also did a great job conveying the kind of feel you went for. And the dialogue. Oh man. That was pretty great. I liked how each Mini had their specific requirement for battling you.

Overall, I really liked this game. Keep up the great work!

Trindle Tabletop Experiment by vkmicro 2017-05-01T16:22:32Z

This was an interesting idea, and a cool way to take the theme.

The riddle levels were fun. I thought those were fairly clever. The first moving objects level was interesting, and a good way to introduce the mechanic of moving objects being harmful. The fifth level was interesting, but it was too easy to get caught up on objects, which lead to some deaths that were hard to prevent.

Overall I've had a lot of fun with the game, and look forward to seeing what you'll do next!

A Growing Adventure by frankiesmileshow 2017-05-02T13:33:27Z

This is really cool. You took the Small World theme and took it in an interesting direction. The graphics are excellent, and the gameplay, while simple, was pretty effective. Once I had gotten much further in though it felt like exploration was a little slow. Perhaps past a certain level it would be possible to uncover multiple adjacent cells?

Keep up the great work!

SmlWhrld - A Puzzle by OldeTobeh 2017-05-01T05:21:39Z

That was pretty cool. I quite liked that. Beat the first level without reading the instructions, but when I read about the fact that you're *resizing* yourself and the cube, that was unexpected. I thought I was just floating up or down at first.

I'd like to see the puzzles from this expanded on.

Cartography by Zorg 2017-05-02T15:04:22Z

That was really neat. I quite enjoy mazes, so it didn't take me too long to solve the puzzle, but I had a lot of fun exploring on the way! The ending was pretty great too. When I finally realized what happened I laughed pretty hard.

So you did all of this without understanding Unity programming *or* Blender just during the Jam? Holy smokes. That's impressive.

Keep up the great work!

In Defense of a Dragon by d3zmodos 2017-05-01T14:59:44Z

The expanding map was really cool! The patterns the game generated were neat to watch, and the overall gameplay, while challenging, felt fair.

Orbitunes by ColeSlaughter 2017-05-02T14:09:10Z

This was a neat idea. Always cool to see game-based stuff like this. I could almost see something like this working in some sort of augmented reality space.

It was a lot of fun just throwing asteroids around and seeing what took shape. Sometimes I needed to hit the clear button because it became a hot mess but when things worked out it sounded pretty amazing.

Afterbirth by xxDOOMbox 2017-05-01T13:14:39Z

That was refreshingly funny. Your character animation is good, and the music sounds great for the time that the game is playing.

All in all I think you did a great job. Keep up the great work!

SmallWorld by arg410 2017-05-01T04:56:01Z

Pretty interesting concept! Took me a moment to figure things out but it'd be really cool to see where this goes!

Song of Fungus by DGSpitzer 2017-05-01T05:51:57Z

Fantastic game, and really good mechanic introduction! I struggled with the Scarlet mushroom and stopped at that point (need to get to sleep) but that was a really cool twist to the game.

AstroGunner by KabalaTrance 2017-05-02T14:35:38Z

That was a pretty cool game. The perspective flipping threw me off at one point, and it's a little hard to keep track of enemies, especially from behind. Some sort of invincibility on hit would have been great too. Despite those minor issues, the game was a lot of fun!

The graphics did the trick. I liked the design of the ship, and the enemies were pretty neat. The sound effects were good, but the background music felt particularly calm for what was happening onscreen, unless it was meant to feel a little creepy.

Keep up the great work!

KeyPuppers by AntaresValdemar 2017-05-02T14:02:20Z

That is a really neat idea! The dogs (and their barks) are cute, the music is good and the graphics are pretty nice. The freeze works pretty well, but it took me a little bit to realize you hold a key and then hit shift to repair keys, so I sandbagged myself a little I guess. (I did read the instructions, but I guess I missed it somewhere.)

I don't think I've seen an idea quite like that before. You did a great job with the time you had. Keep up the great work!

Defend the Earth by Scrumplesplunge 2017-05-01T15:47:18Z

This was a fun idea. The graphics were good, and it had a nice arcade feel to it. The main problem I had was that it felt like I could "lose" the camera if I was going fast enough. This lead to me losing track of the Earth and losing it on wave 1.

Still though, this was an interesting defense game. Keep up the good work!

Race against ferrum gigantes by JScotty 2017-05-02T18:00:49Z

This is a pretty interesting game. I'm bad at it, but I still had fun.

My biggest issue is that it felt like a number of times the giants stomped in a direction I had already passed, but since the game had already figured out the collisions I was dead anyway.

The game looks gorgeous, the music is awesome. Your team did a great job! Keep up the great work!

FUEL by KCreanor 2017-05-01T12:56:33Z

Nice game to start my Monday with! Pretty good controls and neat layouts. I don't really have any complaints. Keep up the good work!

6-Sided Sojourn by Cosmic Adventure Squad 2017-05-02T14:50:57Z

Time for me to gush about this game. That was so cool. Not only did you get the Small World theme spot on, but the graphics were amazing, the sound and music were top-notch, and the gameplay, while it seemed a little easy at times, was quite a lot of fun! It's when you don't pay attention to attack values that you get yourself defeated. Simply put, I am a huge fan of this game, and you all for making it.

This is easily one of my favorite games so far. Please, keep up the great work and I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Den by La mecanique du plastique 2017-05-01T22:12:56Z

This is absolutely gorgeous, and the controls were really cool for being completely mouse driven. Had a little trouble charging on occasion but it wasn't really an issue.

Also got stuck at the button base. Managed to get some men down below but nobody would press the button -- I think that was the puzzle because it was big, bright and red, but didn't seem like I ever made any progress on that front.

Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see what you all do next!

FLUORIDER by anim_ace 2017-05-18T21:41:51Z

That was a really fluid beat-em-up! Graphics and sound were great. The controls worked well, and I didn't have any trouble controlling the character.

Overall it's a really hectic beat-em-up, and I had a blast playing it. Keep up the good work!

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Lovely Kana by FireSlash 2017-12-05T03:49:20Z

That was really creative! I liked the concept quite a lot.

The graphics were really well done, and fit the retro VN style a lot. The music was catchy and sound effects did their job well.

If I had one complaint it would be never really knowing what my stress levels were, but I guess if that information were revealed it would be too easy to game the system. I ended up losing the game on Tuesday of Week 2 due to what I can only assume was that sneaky laziness stat messing with my decisions.

All in all, that was a lot of fun! Keep up the great work!

Space Shoot by quill18 2017-12-07T18:39:04Z

Curses. I'm on a Mac.

Paw for Cream by Ango 2017-12-12T06:15:20Z

This game was really interesting as far as concepts go. The theme was executed well and the ice cream physics blobs blended well to make something that looked pretty nice.

Only there was one cone I was making and the ice cream physics collisions decided they were tired of playing nice and ice cream flew everywhere. It was like a sweet, sticky explosion.

Still, that was pretty fun. Would have loved sound but I understand not being able to get to that in the interest of time.

Keep up the good work!

Monolith by Sir Magic 2017-12-06T22:37:09Z

This is a pretty interesting idea. The one-button gameplay was simple to pick up, and the difficulty scaled fairly nicely. If I had one complaint to leverage it's that the camera doesn't speed up to catch you if you go upward too fast. I ran into a few situations where I jumped on a barely onscreen arrow and went soaring into the sky only for my game to end not long after because I guess I fell on spikes that I had no way of knowing existed.

The graphics are wonderful, and even on my onboard-graphics'd laptop the game looked great and played just as well. The sound effects were simple but did their job well, too.

As for the theme, I'm not sure if I missed the point or if the game didn't really follow it. Regardless of that, though, the game was fun and ultimately that's what matters most.

GameJam Survival Simulator by VicoViper 2017-12-07T00:19:12Z

That was pretty cool! I succeeded just in the nick of time, but unfortunately my Quality score was only 69%. Still though, that sums up game jams pretty well. The graphics were very nice (though I did make the character somehow phase out of his chair sideways while sitting to use the restroom) and compliment the gameplay well.

Keep up the great work, and here's to another victory in your next go at Ludum Dare!

Not candy crush by eptwalabha 2017-12-08T20:06:59Z

That was really interesting to play, though I will admit the level jump the moment all the rules were fulfilled was a little jarring. Quite a clever puzzle game!

Oversize Load by quadtree 2017-12-15T01:15:07Z

This is an impressive little game... and I'm terrible at it. Still though, it's very well done, graphics, audio, mechanics and all. Thanks for participating, and keep up the great work!

Chick Magnet by one-seed-fruit 2017-12-08T04:59:55Z

This is a really interesting concept, and really shows the theme well. I did have a hilarious situation where a chicken pushed me out of the play area, though. I wandered around until the inevitable restart.

I'd love to see where you take this, if you plan on post-LD updates. Keep up the great work!

Sum of Its Parts by mrjoshuamclean 2017-12-10T01:47:24Z

This is a really cool idea and a really well done use of the theme. Had some enemies spawn on top of me a few times and seemed like some things killed me awfully quickly, but aside from that I had no other issues. The music was pretty awesome.

Spacelitch by Flaterectomy 2017-12-08T01:52:25Z

This was a really neat idea. The dog was a hilarious touch, and the bullet bouncing mechanic fit the theme really well. I'm not very good at but it's a lot of fun! Loved the audio work too. Overall the game has been a joy to play and rate.

Great job and keep up the great work!

DETERMINATION by megabrutal 2017-12-21T15:23:58Z

That was pretty cool. There were a few issues with things like the aforementioned enemies not showing any feedback for being hit, but aside from that the theme was pretty well executed. Boy do those controls get slippery after a while! Hah.

Keep up the good work!

人気があるよ!(~Be popular!) by Jordgubben 2017-12-18T00:12:28Z

This was an interesting idea! I had a little trouble with collisions around some of the objects, but all in all this was pretty fun. Was this a team project, though? Or are the songs outside assets? I'm not sure how to rate audio because of that.

Keep up the great work!

Bullet Hell by kamekai 2017-12-06T22:08:08Z

That's a very interesting idea, and a really cool use of the theme! The lack of music and sound is a shame but time is ever our enemy in stuff like this, so I completely understand.

The weird thing I personally noticed is that Q/E sometimes made me seemingly start turning, which interfered a bit with one of my attempted strategies. Not sure if that's how it was intended to work but either way it was a fun game to try.

Hungry Ghost by mrnyarlathotep 2017-12-07T21:44:45Z

That's a really clever puzzle platformer. I liked how tricky it could get, and that everything had a proper order if you wanted to succeed.

CalligraTree by Roaring Cat Games 2017-12-08T01:30:30Z

This is one gorgeous, relaxing game. I'm not very good at it but it's a lot of fun!

COINS by oab 2017-12-28T14:59:17Z

This was pretty fun. A few problems I noticed, though: It's already been mentioned before but the sounds are a little rough sometimes. Lowering the coin pickup volume would help a good bit, I think. Music would have been great too but time constraints can make that difficult. I also had a number of deaths happen because I wasn't aware an explosion was going to spawn under me. Having those sprites draw on top of the player would have made things a whole lot more playable, if slightly less pretty.

Overall, though, that was a lot of fun! Keep up the good work!

Operator by Viperfish9 2017-12-05T05:30:25Z

I have never seen a concept quite like this before. It looked really nice, and the mechanics were pretty interesting once I understood what exactly was happening. Seemed like sometimes it was a little difficult to line up the jacks, though, or sometimes a little tough to pick up the lines.

Keep up the good work!

Six by CodeChomper 2017-12-08T22:07:27Z

That was awesome! I had a lot of fun solving the puzzles! My only criticism is that a "remove last command" button (or a delete button next to each command in the program) would make it a lot easier to fix button press order mistakes. I had started to input the commands for a level and realized I had missed over some at the very beginning and had no choice but to send Six off to his demise to reset the code stack.

Awesome work!

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-07T15:50:24Z

@mrnyarlathotep - I wish the upgrade problem had crossed my mind during the compo. I had forgotten to take into account that someone could be carrying a single ore into the upgrader, and caught it using the "ores don't match pattern" failure message (though undocumented, you can have the upgrade ores in the opposite order too, it just matters that you're holding both of the appropriate color). Once I'm somewhere with a more stable connection I'll create a post-jam version that fixes that. Even better would be to add a small storage on the upgrade machine that could take a single valid ore from the player and hold it for a complete upgrade. Thank you for the feedback!

@michael-feldman, @jjjjason, @bryceltaylor, @instantnoedel - Thank you all very much for the kind words. I'm very glad that you liked the game!

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-08T16:30:06Z

@rasm Thanks for the input! I'll consider adding a mode for that. It sounds like an interesting idea, and could speed up scoring a little bit. Combining that with other feedback has given me an interesting idea for scoring that I'll have to see the feasibility in adding.

@zinkler The purpose of the number of scoring options is to give the player something other than the higher scoring options to aim for -- those options give the player lower-scoring options that might be better for keeping your game going. I do plan on using your feedback to make post-LD enhancements to the game, though.

@twotwentyfour, @one-seed-fruit, @mcjammydodger Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm glad that people are enjoying the game. It was a lot of fun to make!

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-09T00:29:33Z

@candlesan Yeah, that's one of the things that could use a little tweaking. My hope was that most users would find a lucrative lower value pattern and use it if they need to stay alive, but in an arcade style game what player wouldn't go for just the highest scoring item? I have a couple ideas on things I might try and implement and change, but I'm going to hold off until after voting so I can keep the HTML5 version the definitive version.

@cubeeo You've actually stumbled upon one of the scoring oddities that I didn't realize I had missed. I designed all the mechanics around only giving the multiplier value to patterns on the board, but forgot to actually implement the check in the GameManager's AddScore function. So as a result you could get a big multiplier and then start feeding in No Match or 4-of-a-kind patterns and get bonus points from it. Though in hindsight, aside from the "Last Scored" panel being outright wrong, is that entirely a bad thing? I'm honestly not sure.

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-10T16:36:50Z

@flaterectomy Sorry for the sound balance issues. Unfortunately that was one of the last things I implemented and it didn't get the attention it needed. In regard to the grey color problem, I spent most of my time on the gameplay and graphics aren't something I feel I have much talent for. I'll take your input on movement speed and ore disposal for a post-jam version.

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-12T07:43:59Z

@samusoidal @flaterectomy I lowered the volume of the upgrade sounds. I know you've already done your play/rates but hopefully the sounds aren't quite so ear-bleeding inducing now.

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-15T01:07:48Z

@pcmxms I know it's after the fact and you've done your playing/rating, but upgrades increase bin capacity by 2 for each one you install, and you can see the bin status at the top of the screen. As for the character speed, that is something I'm going to be looking at for the post-LD version, among other things.

@quadtree Nice score! Interesting you mention steadily rising difficulty -- I tried to do that already in the game code. When the game starts out, the average spawn time for ores should be about 8 seconds (+/- 30%). Every ten seconds that time between ores gets lowered by 0.2 seconds, to a 3 second minimum (at which point each spawner is putting out an ore between every 2.1 and 3.9 seconds). I didn't feel like increasing the difficulty any higher than that was very fair so that's where the final numbers ended for the compo. Maybe that's another thing I'll take a look at post-LD.

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-15T15:47:10Z

@arron-fowler Thanks! Sorry there was some confusion -- I need to redo the instructions screen. It covers some of the stuff but not enough. I tried to make sure the buildup was a decent speed and mostly controlled, so I'm glad to see the word "nice" in that sentence about the build-up, but admittedly stress was not something I had really considered in the creation of the game. It's hard to come up with a relaxing game where "the more you have the worse it is!"

Factory Panic by Chronosv2 2017-12-18T00:04:41Z

@jordgubben When I originally designed the game I was hoping that the filling sprites every few ores would help show that, but added the numeric indicators as an afterthought and didn't have the chance to tinker with adding them to world-coordinated canvases. I'll add that to the list of things I want to try post-LD. As for movement speed, that's another tweak I'm thinking about experimenting with. As for carrying capacity, that might require a bit of a rewrite. There's actually an interesting case wherein you can actually dispose of an ore without using it for scoring by putting 3 ores into the processor, then bringing two with you. It'll score the first one with the four, then when the processor empties your inventory it'll dump the extra ore into the void. So carrying capacity might be a thing. Still though, I've got a couple ideas now that I'll have to try out.

Drift Punk by CremaGames 2017-12-08T01:13:29Z

You did this in such a short time? Holy smokes this is incredible! The driving feels smooth and fast, the mechanics fit the theme perfect and the music is a joy to listen to. Overall a complete package.

Great work!

In Temperance Ruin by sparewizard 2017-12-08T05:57:40Z

I love these kinds of dungeon crawls, and the money mechanic really adds a whole new layer to the idea. Seemed like even with full perception I kept on missing though, which was a little frustrating. Them's the breaks when you're dealing with an RNG though. Even still, I had a lot of fun playing this game.

Keep up the great work!

Critter™ Sitter by those-30-ninjas 2017-12-07T18:45:19Z

That was amazing! A little difficult to manage (especially with the minigames) but I think that's the point. Really amazing implementation. I would have never imagined a Virtual Pet sitting game.

Keep up the great work!

Too Many Chooks by Schu 2017-12-21T15:19:54Z

That was a lot of fun. Difficult to keep up with sometimes (got two across the screen from each other) but that made for a really fun challenge!

Keep up the good work!

Paparazzi by Michael Feldman 2017-12-07T16:25:35Z

That was very well done. The game fit the theme perfectly. The only complaint I have comes down more to the fact that my visual impairment (not something I mention in my bio because it's generally not relevant) makes keeping up with inputs on opposite sides of the screen a little challenging. Still though. My rating will not be affected by this complaint, though, because the visual impairment is not something that I feel needs to factor into ratings. I only mention it here because I feel it's relevant and something that I observed and saw fit to mention.

Junk by jjjjason 2017-12-05T05:48:35Z

That was really, really cool. I'm genuinely impressed! My first game was an absolute trainwreck that despite my skill with Tetris I couldn't get anywhere close to fixing. There was a tower so high I spent most of my time down-scrolling. In levels where people seemed like they were actually trying, though, it was an absolute blast.

I love this concept a lot, and as long as the server is up and running I think I'm going to come back to this to see what stuff comes out.

Keep up the amazing work!

A Spark of Light by TurbulentWinds 2017-12-07T21:52:20Z

This is a really cool concept, and overall a very beautiful game. I ended up lasting about 2 minutes before I stopped finding enough black boxes to drain the light, and went splat.

Starbage Man by BryceLTaylor 2017-12-07T16:37:34Z

That was a really unique idea! Had a little trouble navigating having to change between terminals, but all in all that was quite a bit of fun. I also noticed that the physics don't pause while you're being talked to, so I had a situation where I was slingshot out of a planet's orbit while I was watching the animation, then came back not really sure where I was.

Still, that was really well done. Keep up the great work!

Pacific Parkour League (PPL) by alexpritc 2017-12-09T00:02:30Z

That was a pretty neat looking game. I had a lot of trouble with the controls, but I don't know if that was just because I was bad at it or something else. All in all a really nice entry! Keep up the good work!

2D Pixel Shooter by volatile 2017-12-08T20:19:41Z

Unfortunately I have to add myself to the "Nearly unplayable" list. MacBook Pro Early 2015 (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, Iris Pro 6000 graphics). The idea seemed pretty cool from what I could glean when the inputs worked.

Greedy Dungeons by Nils -Gecko- Munch 2017-12-07T18:36:01Z

That was a cool concept. I appreciate the visual radius that the gold creates and the strategy the system creates. The graphics and sound are both very goo, too, and the fact that the game even has freaking Steam Codes is quite impressive.

If I had one complaint it's that the gargoyles are tedious to deal with. More fires could be helpful in that regard, particularly if they aren't nestled against a wall.

Overall, though, this game is awesome! Great work!

Greed Mania by pcmxms 2017-12-14T05:27:19Z

This was a really cool throwback to a bygone era. This felt like something that could actually exist on the Atari 2600.

The graphics contrast was good and helped make visualizing the play field easy. The sounds were much like what you would hear from an Atari, and were very well done.

My only complaint is one that I saw already before -- I felt like it was way to easy to bump into the sides and die. I feel like a 0.3sec grace period or something would make for a less frustrating end, but maybe at the same time I could see that lessening the experience.

Keep up the great work!

Blood Clot by Miguel Montero 2017-12-06T22:56:12Z

Wow, if there's anything that could exemplify this theme, this game definitely does it. The controls were simple, too. Hilariously I had thought I had cleverly found a setup that would keep my score climbing but eventually the clot grew and that was that. I really could see that being a little game on a cell phone.

Nice work!

Cyber Instinct by CyberPunks 2017-12-06T22:00:23Z

That's a really cool concept. The combination of a tower defense/platformer with the energy mechanic is really quite cool. I had a little trouble staying on the level, but all in all the idea is pretty awesome. Keep up the great work!
