LD38 — A Small World

Spider Collider by mooncalf 2017-04-30T20:54:39Z

this is one of the best ones I've played yet! the music is excellent. the gameplay is well implemented and fun. the asteroids aesthetic is consistent, clear, and helps the player quickly grasp the unconventional gameplay. great job.

the only problem I could find with it is that in some levels you can jump off the top or sides and land on your starting rock, canceling it's momentum before it touches anything. I cheesed several of the levels like that. I also found that I never needed to use the grapple function, since I would always land eventually. perhaps a slightly slower version of the game with death walls would be more difficult?

The Grass is Always Greener by intxparts 2017-05-01T04:16:49Z

short, but funny and enjoyable. if you made that with pygame that's impressive in itself. good work.

Toy Time Turbo by BadRAM 2017-04-30T19:48:12Z

@samurai-spark @undefinist controls are definitely difficult to get used to, as I didnt implement the various levels of abstraction most racing games have in their controls. if you start to lose control, try to keep the front wheels pointed forwards. I didn't do much keyboard testing, so the controls are somewhat lacking there.

Toy Time Turbo by BadRAM 2017-05-01T15:52:59Z

@oxrock wheelHit is a unity class, so it's not missing. sorry for the mess

probably the most important thing I did to let the car go fast was moving the center of mass as far down as I could reasonably get it. it's practically in line with the wheels.

Little Infinity by Kevin Barrios 2017-04-30T22:16:16Z

neat!

the sound design was top notch on this one, and it is quite nice graphically too.

the gameplay was simple but fun, and you did a great job letting the player figure things out on their own.

my only complaint with this one was that I had no wasd controls. telling the astronaut where to go was a little awkward at times, and wasd movement would have simplified things somewhat. his speed is a little slow, but the animation makes it feel normal.

great job, I haven't seen many compo entries this polished.

rovR by morrilet 2017-05-01T04:53:37Z

nice job! I love the art style, everything looks so friendly. the jumping and rotating mechanic is very clever. the sound design is solid, and difficulty curve is great. great work.

Dr. M Little's Planet Mass Overdrive by slimabob 2017-05-01T08:11:49Z

extremely well polished, good work. I love the dialogue, and the secret ending is wonderful. I would have made the thruster charge a little faster, or maybe give the earth a little less drag. fantastic job.

Evacuator! by Robber 2017-05-17T06:50:43Z

great work, most has already been said, but I would like to underline the failings of the sound design. please never have extremely low or high pitched noisy generated sounds on loop, especially alone at any normal volume. it can get quite painful to listen to for headphone users.

Ark of the new world by jojocanard 2017-05-01T00:17:02Z

I love it! very tense and difficulty scales in an intuitive and fun way. almost every part of this game is self explanatory, which is quite an accomplishment! my only complaint is that the sound effects can be a little painful for headphone users after a while.

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-05-01T06:46:17Z

fun! I found the gradual progression of the upgrades to be quite satisfying, and the game's difficulty scaled fairly well to match. the music was fitting, but the sound effects became a little grating after a while. I had fun playing this one, keep it up!

Kryp by Nahkala 2017-04-30T20:25:23Z

Nice work! I found it very relaxing, the music was nice and the calligraphy pen effect that the digging leaves behind is particularly nice to look at. your interpretation of the theme through the gradual progression of the window size was brilliant. I didn't try the postcompo release, but in your official release I collected all the green pellets and knocked down all the accessible apples and the game crashed. is that where the ending would have been? your post says the compo version is bugged but does not say how. some clarification on that point would be appreciated.

I noticed the credits mention several people, and accredit the music to incompetech. this contradicts your submission to the Compo, as the [rules](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules) state that compo is for single person attempts. you should switch your game category to "JAM" ASAP.

Pizza Delivery In a Small World by Splandle 2017-04-30T21:08:22Z

nice work and welcome the the Ludum Dare community! I look forward to seeing what you make next time! this entry may be unimpressive, but it's yours and that's something to be proud of. next time focus on making every event in the game give some sort of feedback to the player, through sound, animation, or noticeable changes to score.

Sentai Survivor by Sir Daniev 2017-05-01T07:36:56Z

saw the word sentai while rapidly scrolling through submissions and had to scroll back up and find it. great work, I love the premise and execution. the feeling of smallness is wonderful in this one. while the gameplay is simple, it is fun. this entire thing reminds me of the "MILLIONS DEAD" joke that was prevalent in the twitch power rangers marathon. nice game, 5/5 humor.

A Small Twinstick...ish by OneMysteryMan 2017-04-30T07:00:30Z

fun! the game moves very fast, it was quite difficult for me to keep track of my character and deal with the enemies at that speed. also the bullets and enemies all moved at very similar speeds, and were similar enough graphically that in the heat of the moment they were more or less indistinguishable. I would recommend making the bullets less similar to the enemies in size, movement speed, and color to make quick recognition and dodging easier. graphically, it looks very good. the minimal style stands out from the typical 'lo-bit' minimalism you see in ludum dare submissions. the sound design is solid. while it may not be diverse, the music serves it's purpose and the sound effects are clear and dont grate on the ears after a while like many BFXR sound effects can. good work, I will be sure to rate your game when rating goes live.

Small Planet by ZebraInFlames 2017-05-01T00:52:48Z

nice work! I feel like the turn speed is is a little restrictive, but then again I had trouble aiming too. I liked how your engine cuts out when you leave the atmosphere, for realism. it would be neat if drag dropped off as your altitude increased. the only real problem for me is that the shooting sound effect can grate on the ears after a while, especially if you are wearing headphones. great job overall!

Landshift by undefinist 2017-04-30T21:38:40Z

clever idea, would definitely play a mobile version. I'll be watching this one!

RC kitchen Throwdown by oxrock 2017-05-01T07:24:38Z

nice work! I also made a unity3d racing game for compo, but focused more on vehicle physics than environment. if you want an example for how to do better vehicle physics, feel free to grab the source code from my project. your game was very atmospheric, not letting the player look back was a good idea. I did encounter the particular situation, but aside from that the game ran fairly well, even on my older desktop. one thing I would recommend when working with unity wheel colliders is to have a 'wheel guard' collider around the top 3/4 of the wheel. this prevents the somewhat unexpected interactions that can occur when a wheel collider clips into another surface or hits a wall.

Daily Routine: the smallest worlds are the ones we get stuck in by Samurai Spark 2017-04-30T21:30:42Z

it took me until day 7, but I beat it! great work. this is an excellent art game and I will definitely show it to people as an example of game mechanics as metaphor. keep it up!

Platform Patrol! by Mega Man 2017-05-01T07:06:03Z

this was... surprising. I quite enjoyed it, and found myself laughing aloud from the ridiculousness of it all quite frequently. the reckless dismissal of "intellectual property" and "game design fundamentals" lead this to be an unusual and entertaining experience. the sound design really helped everything come together, without it I believe the entire thing would have fallen flat and seemed like a mishmash of stock assets. the only actual bug I encountered was that you can still move the camera during some cutscenes.

Golden Kapusta by Enerccio2 2017-05-01T00:40:11Z

really cool! I've done enough in python to know that this is quite impressive! It's fun to see different strains expand over various areas. as it stands now, It's more of a simulation than a game. something like this would be cool if there were better ways to control what is growing where. if irrigation and terraforming were made a little cheaper, random mutation were removed (crossbreeding only), and a box select function were added, it could be quite fun. it could certainly benefit from the addition of selection highlighting.

OUROBURROWS by huskitch 2017-04-30T22:04:09Z

fun! its an interesting take on the theme, and very nice visually. the overall presentation of the game is very professional, and the soundtrack is great. I only wish the music was dynamic in some way. I didnt find a win condition after playing for a while, so I'm going t o assume there isn't one. it would be nice if that were spelled out somewhere. perhaps if a win condition were added, you could make it so the music tracks switched from the first to the second part when the player was about half way to victory. the planet feels much larger than it is, due to the dark and muddy graphics. adding some camera movement or reducing fog a little might help this. great work overall. this game is much more polished than most submissions I see here, especially for a compo entry.

First ever attempt at anything in unity by Kieran Wood 2017-04-30T22:50:14Z

nice! I hope you keep at it and join next Ludum Dare!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Catiro by Riftpoint Entertainment 2019-05-07T17:34:47Z

great implementation, the graphics and sound were really nice. It does feel like the enemies aren't really synchronized to the beat, though that might be just me.

HAMMO by BadRAM 2019-04-29T22:14:36Z

Thanks! Inspiration hit me while naming the variable to store both **H**ealth and **AMMO** :P

HAMMO by BadRAM 2019-04-30T04:29:21Z

@duncan-soo Thank you! you get a prize!

@hexiez123 I designed it with the goal being speed more than completion. They're meant to be easy to beat but require skill to beat fast. Also if I made longer levels like I intended to they would be necessary to farm for HAMMO in order to continue rocket jumping and save time.

HAMMO by BadRAM 2019-05-04T21:17:26Z

@no-grapes-games my interpretation of the theme was that your life would act as a currency you can spend on speed. rather abstract I know, but still present.

@gentel That's on par with my own times for the level, I'd say you win.

HAMMO by BadRAM 2019-05-15T06:01:48Z

@balance686 good timing, I just finished making an Itch.io page for my postcompo release! https://badram.itch.io/hammo

Graveyard Ghost by Jesús González 2019-05-04T07:48:10Z

I had fun abusing the teleport mechanic. since it doesn't negate your velocity you can set the teleport at the top of your jump, then jump and immediately teleport, then set the teleport one jump height above where the last teleport was set and repeat to basically fly.

Borrowed time by GoblinPortal 2019-04-29T20:06:10Z

Game looks very nice! Please don't name the file LDjam44.zip, it leads to confusion. Would have been nice to have start and pause menus with quit options rather than the esc to kill, but it's not a huge deal. gameplay was alright. I do like grab and throw mechanics, it would have been cool if there was a little more skill to getting people into the hole, maybe they could break out of your grip and you'd need to regrab them, or the target could be harder to hit. sound was nice, good job.

Forex Platformer by cax 2019-04-29T21:25:04Z

really clever take on the theme! I enjoyed it, but didn't really understand the picture so it took me a while to figure out how to play. also on my computer A and D did not work and I had to use arrow keys to move. Would have benefited from title and quit screens, and some basic sounds, but overall this feels quite polished, the controls were consistent and I didn't encounter any bugs.

Tanemaki by Wyatt 2019-04-29T23:17:11Z

WOW this is really good! the map is huge for a jam game, and sound and graphics all fit perfectly. the only criticism I have is that the ball kinda jumps when it gets bigger, which maybe could have been solved by spherecasting down from above it and teleporting it to the collision distance on growth, but otherwise this is a perfect entry. the interpretation of the theme was really creative as well.

also the seed sounds made me laugh.

Curfe by Kajetan Andrzejak 2019-04-29T21:46:55Z

"THANOS"

nice.

Lifestock by Esben Jensen 2019-04-29T23:43:08Z

cool puzle game, I got a score of 1668. the first time I sold, my volume was up and the beeps were quite startling. very smart interpretation of the theme.

Coin Odyssey by Thermacon 2019-04-29T22:12:45Z

It would be funny if the number of coins in the starting pile went down each level, until the last level is the last coin escaping. then the win screen could have HIM sulking in a corner, penniless. I think the controls could be improved to allow high skill edge rolling shenanigans, but you did a good job given the timeframe. great work! (I would have wasted all my time getting edge rolling to work, then not finished.)

U Wouldn't Shoot a Ship by NotSoEpicGames 2019-04-29T19:33:37Z

I like it!, as Vertuga32 said, the sounds are good. the Intro is very slick, was a nice surprise. My biggest criticism is that the main menu isn't navigable using the listed controls, you need to use the arrow keys and enter which is not clear. The broadsiding battleship enemies were cool. The default unity blue border was a little ugly, would have been nice if the starfield extended beyond the play area and there were an energy fence or something. Great work on the music!

Blood Coins by TheItCrOw 2019-04-29T22:28:44Z

ZipFileTooLarge.png

I cant download it.

I will play it if you reply after fixing this.

Take them with you by Dinorex 2019-04-29T22:53:34Z

Really slick! The only unpolished thing I noticed was that diagonal movement seems to be faster than straight, remember to normalize your movement vector!

Particle Overload by Turtwiggy 2019-05-04T20:59:29Z

I used reach for the summit from the celeste OST and was impressed, it's very ambitions to try and make a game and music visualizer in such a short time frame, and you did a good job.

Boxes Rush by Mia Devs 2019-04-29T22:45:21Z

Superjumps are possible if you jump right in front of a wall, but they're actually bad since they keep you off the floor longer than you usually want.

RogueLife by FedorL 2019-04-29T21:41:24Z

love the DF aesthetic, will definitely play and rate if ported to windows! (sorry.)

BIOFUEL by Antoine Cuvilliez 2019-04-29T21:37:56Z

Neat! I was expecting the option to consume crew once biofuel was out, but maybe I'm just weird. Very polished, though I was a little surprised when I tried to rewind the tutorial and started the game instead.

Glory of the Gods by vladirien 2019-05-04T20:31:58Z

I had fun with this one. I wish the game had a dash recharge meter or some other indicator, especially with variable cooldown time as a mechanic. here is my final scoresheet:scoreboard.PNG

Feed My Sheep by mmmmGoodDinner 2019-04-29T22:25:14Z

Though I cut my play session short due to the protesting cries of my laptop, the game seemed pretty good. The size of the wolf caught me off guard, perhaps you could spawn them further from the player and have the growl as they approach to build tension.

Poop counter made me chuckle.

Coin War by jjones 2019-05-04T20:18:29Z

wow, I was not expecting a pool game on this theme. really cool! It took me 22 moves to win. probably the most fun I've had with an entry's difficulty on this one. My one criticism is that I never used the board tilt mechanic, since by the time I could move my hands to the arrow keys the coin had expended most of it's spin.
