saw the word sentai while rapidly scrolling through submissions and had to scroll back up and find it. great work, I love the premise and execution. the feeling of smallness is wonderful in this one. while the gameplay is simple, it is fun. this entire thing reminds me of the "MILLIONS DEAD" joke that was prevalent in the twitch power rangers marathon. nice game, 5/5 humor.
@jojocanard thanks! We were planning on more obstacles and different characters/stages, but the time got us unfortunately T.T. (Godot isn't exactly friendly towards 2D animation).
Very cool game, with some very good graphics and a very cool idea and concept too! I just think that you should make a better feedback for the rocks falling from the sky (like arrows points from where they are coming, per example). But its still a very cool game, good job!
A fellow kaiju game!!! This concept is great. Graphics are solid and the music is awesome, fits the sentai vibe perfectly. I just had to jam out on the title screen for the whole song! Gameplay is pretty basic but fits the concept well. Dying felt a little random, so a possible improvement might be to have a health bar or some more warning for rocks coming in. Still loved the experience though. Would love to see this fleshed out! Nice work! :D
This game is hilarious and I had quite a lot of fun playing it. First I thought it didn't really fit the theme, but the longer I played, the more fitting it felt. Nice music as well!
Really fun and creative concept! I thought it was very funny to see this kind of events from a civilian's perspective :P I'll keep this in mind next time I watch Power Rangers or something similar :P Other than that, the graphics were pretty nice and colorful, which fitted into the whole whimsical aesthetic, and the gameplay, while simple, it was satisfying and fun! Great job! :D
Ahh my poor little man. You were not long for this kaiju world.
Humans are pretty squishy, so I don't blame him but being taken out so fast. I think however the combination of rather large hitboxes and one-hit-kill felt a bit harsh!
I also managed to get out of bounds by gallantly traversing the beastie on the right, which was pretty funny. At least the man is safe out in the void?
Once I got a handle on things I managed to survive a fair while. I really like the concept, nice job! :D
I loved the concept, I'd like a life bar.
Thought this was pretty funny but wish there had been a little more too it. Loved the look and feel though
Really good concept! I didn't know at first if I would die from hits off the rocks because I kept getting hit but there was no feedback. I died eventually. Other than that great entry :)
If you wouldn’t mind having a quick go of my entry and letting me know what you think I would be grateful. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/space-pow-collins
This is an entertaining concept, and even though the current implementation is somewhat limited, I feel like there's a lot of room to expand this and take it new places. Some suggestions:
* Some earlier commenters asked for a life bar, while others mentioned that you can only survive one hit; it's not actually clear to the player whether you have health that goes down every time you get hit, or if you just die immediately if you're hit *just* right, and are otherwise unharmed.. Whichever one is correct needs to be obvious. * The game's environment doesn't really change over time; something that might help maintain interest is if the rubble piled up rather than disappearing, and you had to keep climbing on top of it as more rubble fell. * If you plan to expand the game, you might consider having different stages, with the robot hero fighting various monsters in various weird locations, which the hapless player character is for some reason stuck in.
All that said, I liked the visuals, the audio, and the overall concept. Good job!
