Made it to 2120! Neat little game, fits the theme really well too. I found it a bit easy to get stuck, but that's possibly the Threes influence, a big part of that game is strategy around not getting stuck :stuck_out_tongue:. Nice work!

The idea for the game i pretty good, but the difficult level is bit high.
The game is good but I think the difficult level at the start was too high, it took me a while to figure out how new block spawn. I think it would be better if you have some tutorial in game at the start or make a level for beginner :D
Cute art style, pleasant to play, well designed and crafted puzzle mechanics, this has it all! Yet there is one thing that I don't quite get.
Why is it that sometimes you can add a new block from both sides of the grid and other times only from one side of the grid? This oddity kills any kind of long term planning for me as once I finally get the piece I need I cannot add it from the side that I needed to add it from. Surely this must be a bug, right?
Other than that, a solid brain teaser. Have a
hey, thanks for the feedback!
@huvaakoodia If you can't push any tiles on rows/columns, you can't spawn any -- but I do agree it's kinda stupid! (So i'll probably change it -- but no, it's not a bug!)
@jk5000 @darknesszx I do agree on it's difficulty, but it's also quite a hard problem to tackle. When @tempestcognitor told me he had a 2000+ highscore, I was amazed. Then I played a game, stopped and thought of every move I did, and got 9000+. That said, I had thought of making stuff like bomb/volcano tiles, or even weather effects.
Wow. I think it's crazy that you were able to put together a puzzle game in 48 hours. This is great. It's super hard for me (maybe my brain is a little too addled at this point of the evening), but I have a lot of fun with this.
Definitely worth expanding in the future!
@undefinist Great little game! With those minimalistic tiles it does look and feel very polished for a compo submission! I could really see me playing this on mobile while traveling or something! Although I agree with the comments that it could be a bit too hard right from the start, so for a future version some kind of scaling of difficulty would be very nice. But still amazing work for just 48 hours, I like it!
@simonhutchinson @samurai-spark thanks for your feedback! Glad you liked it! Yeah, I'm aware about difficulty, and it is something that I'm thinking really hard to solve. And I am working on getting it to mobile :)
A very beautiful puzzle game. I kept pushing the arrow on the wrong side (absolutely my fault). Maybe for a future version, when hovering over an arrow the tile could show up (transparent) in the corresponding field. That could make it easier.
I think porting it to mobile sounds like a great idea :)

clever idea, would definitely play a mobile version. I'll be watching this one!
@for-science @badram thanks for the feedback! I'm thinking of a non-consecutive undo, where you can only undo for that one turn. That means you place tile 1, tile 2, and you can undo tile 2 but not tile 1 anymore (a game called Topsoil recently released which had this -- it was really useful but not abusive at all)

Nice little puzzle. I agree with the previous commenters that it starts out a bit difficult, maybe having different board sizes could fix that as it's easier not to get stuck when you have more tiles available? Just an idea, not sure it's a good one. XD

I have now also rated your game.

The game is quite fun, remind me of some similar board games like The aMAZEing labyrinth.
But I think people who had no previous experience with similar game(s) will have a hard time understanding the rule, and thus there should be some kind of introduction or tutorial somewhere.
The art style and audio was awesome though, feels good :)

Great looking game, really good work for a compo submission! The level of polish is great! I would have enjoyed it more if the difficulty level was reduced. Maybe in the mobile iteration you can start off with a predefined start for new players in order for them to get the hang of it! But it's really impressive work!
Impressive and innovative game for Compo. Nice idea.
Wow, very impressive game. This is definitely one of the Ludum Dare games i've spent the most time on (and come back to!). I hope you plan to release, I could definitely see myself missing a stop on the train playing this!
Only suggestion would be an (optional) background music track :-)
Awesome stuff!

Totally awesome game! I love the idea and that it's suprisingly challenging even though it's very simple!

It's hard ^^ But a pretty cool game, I love graphics, simple but effective !
Good job, it's a nice compo game :) You can do more levels with different bricks and size to do a complete game for phones :)

Cool idea really liked that one. The difficulty is quite tough :D Even after 6 rounds I quite sucked :( :D I like that minimalistic style on the graphics which looks very sweet :) I would be happy if you find time to checkout my little LD piece. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/noizy
Have a good day:)

I like how polished it is. Though hard (and let's be honest, it's not really possible to balance this kind of mechanics in such short time), it's fun, and shows hard work. Idea and premise is simple, but the nature of puzzle allows for a long and rewarding play.
Great choices, great job overall! Left you a rating, and thanks for your earlier feedback!
Cheers!

Fantastic take on the three's style gameplay. More challenging too, which is cool.
Gameplay-wise I would like the option to be able to slide tiles in a direction regardless of if tiles are obstructed by an edge however. I feel like that might make it not quite as difficult.
All in all a fanstastic entry. Well done! :D
Thank you all for the feedback!
@avavt @wtoa yeah tutorial and tweaking difficulty is definitely on a to-do list
@joekinglake that's awesome to hear! appreciate it! Yeah, a background track will definitely be in a future release.
@yetikatt regarding that, yeah, I'll look into it!

Cool idea (reminds me of 2024, which I liked), just misses a soundtrack

Nice mechanic! It has lots of potential and it can become addictive pretty easily. However, at the moment the generation of new tiles makes it quite hard to be able to make new matches.
The level of polish is also quite high, especially for a compo entry.
With a bit more work I could easily see it as a mobile or handheld game. Great job!
A good on indeed but I wish you could rotate the tile so it would be easier. It's so hard making even one score.
A very beautiful and simplistic puzzle game. One of my favorite games so far :)

nice job. easy to learn, hard to master. the point system felt fair and gratifying.
nice little game. Great visual style.

I love puzzle games! And I love this in particular!! One of my favorite so far! :)
Nice puzzle game, really made me think hard! For some reasons I kept clicking on the wrong arrow when wanting to add a puzzle piece, so I spawned on the other side of the line, maybe a smoother animation of the line sliding could make this kind of confusion less frequent Good work though!
Nice entry. Really challenging!

Really interesting mechanic. Even after a lot of tries, I don't understand why sometimes you can push and sometimes not (I mean, when there is card in the row and empty place too, sometimes we can't...). And it took me time to understand that ways and rivers can go out... Add a tutoriel and clarify rules and you have a great and addictive puzzle game! (best: 1170)
Nice puzzle game. I only got about 320 so I don't know if I understand all the rules of the game, but I did enjoy playing. Nice "quick" game that would be great on mobile.

Trickier than it looks, but there is definitely a method to the madness. Very cool idea and great execution.
My best is 3180. One thing though that I noticed: you might want to consider adding some sort of late game hook... something that keeps the game fresh the deeper you get into it. Otherwise, I still really like it.
I love these kinds of games, got addicted to Threes and a few other similar things. Plus I'm a big Carcassonne fan. This is much nicer in terms of theme than Threes (more satisfying to make a little river than multiply numbers). Looks very tidy and polished too.
Strangely I found it a lot harder than some of these games, I think it's because in Threes when you 'connect' 2 numbers you merge 2 tiles together and make another space on the grid, giving you more room. Whereas here, you have to complete an entire 'Feature' before you can make space. Because of that I found the board filled up a bit quickly, does that make sense?
Thanks everyone for the feedback!
@photon yeah, a late game hook is something I've been pondering hard on. @seconddimension yeah it's definitely harder. I wouldn't say that's the reason, more so it's harder to complete a feature.

Really sweet puzzle game. I thought it would be way easier than it actually is. I definitely see myself play that on my phone during my interclass pauses.
Really liked the concept and execution. Enjoyable little puzzle game. :)

What everyone else said :-) Really liked it. Was perplexed at first but once I understand the possible patterns and pausing and thinking through every move helped. I now got up to 4520.
Edit: Got to 6120
Edit: I wonder how much easier/nicer it would be if instead of only being able to insert new pieces into rows/columns which allow at least one piece to move to allow insertion everywhere.
Enjoyed playing this one and liked the challenge of learning how to think like you're meant to. Took me a few turns to get the hang of the pieces and how everything worked but, the great thing is that I did feel like I was learning more and getting better each time. The simple minimalist graphics also worked extremely well. And just like threes I could see this working really well on mobile. Nice polished entry and only think I could wish for was maybe some more variety in pieces as your score increases and maybe a tutorial at the start to guide you a bit.

Wow, I'm so bad at this, it's incredible. I'm going to comment on everything that isn't related to gameplay, then. The graphics are really clean and professional. Same thing for the sound effects. The game looks/plays/sounds like something out of the Play Store. You should seriously consider putting it on Android/iOS actually! Great job!

Lovely graphics, challenging game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTDci7P3_cI

a very difficult and innovative puzzle gameplay i like the graphic style also, very clean
Very cute graphics. Reminded me of the board game Carcassone. Then you added the 2048 things and I was like: woah, nice!
I got my butt handed to me several times. I suck at it. You could probably add a Restart button, and a background music could be nice. Other than that, everything is very well done!
Congratulations! Great job.

I wish I understood better how the connecting system worked as this looks really fun to play. I got better score just randomly pressing buttons than actually trying play correctly. Placement of the tile and completing river/road is bit unclear or not communicated clearly enough. Visuals are really nice and work well for your game. Thumbs up!
Ps. I checked out your graphics updates in post jam version. Overall everything looks better but you might want rethink that awfully saturated background. It’s bit hard on eyes.
Its a so beautiful game! Really love the graphics. Its so hard but so adictive too ^^ I like it :3
Cool game, with a nice simple to play but challenging to master vibe. Overall a polished game, Well done!

I liked the visual style. I managed to get some matches, but since I've never played Threes or Carcassonne some insructions would have been nice. Still, I think I got the gist, and I thought it was enjoyable.
