LD38 — A Small World

W.R.L.D. (World Reconnaissance eLite Defense) by TerraCottaFrog 2017-04-26T21:34:58Z

INCREDIBLE! this game is fucking awesome! honestly, you did an amazing job, im blown away that you were able to put together such a clean, tight, great feeling game in 48hrs. the game is hard as hell, just like i like em. i love all of the explosions and bullets flying everywhere. i also really like how the game makes you keep moving to stay alive. i have played quite a few games so far for ludum dare 38, and i have seen some great ideas and cool things. however, few LD games keep you coming back after you have tested them once, and your game definitely keeps me coming back. outstanding job!!

high score: 6705

Petty Puny Planet 38 by JorgeGameDev 2017-04-27T22:01:14Z

hey really great game! the UI was done very well. the commentary is funny too! i really liked the art you used to visualize each addition to the planet. the anime one was pretty hilarious. the game was witty and cute and with the multiple endings it has some replay value. the screenshot button and history list were nice touches as well. im impressed with how much you were able to implement in such a short time! great work!

Tub of War by quill18 2017-05-03T02:03:38Z

hey really nice game! the modeling work for this is really great, all of the enemies and the player character look so clean and polished. the movement feels great, its like you are floating on water. i also really like the way objects sink in the tub. you did fantastic work making the player feel like they are in a bathtub. the sfx were humorous and likeable, but im not quite sure they match the clean polished graphics of the game. i also think maybe shadows cast on the bottom of the tub could be cool. the power ups were a great addition, auto shot makes you feel like a badass! i enjoyed playing this game very much, really good job!

The Treachery of Game Dev by ratking 2017-05-22T00:08:17Z

hey man incredible game! it was super unique and a lot of fun to explore, especially as someone with no experience in LUA, it felt cool to get your code to work. this was definitely one of the most innovative LD games i have played and your 1st place in innovation definitely reflects that ;) congratulations! also i completely disagree with everyone that argues that your game isnt really a game, doesnt feel 'game-y' enough, or it doesnt have enough traditional gameplay elements. i love that you are exploring and pushing the boundaries of what a game is and what a game can do. these are precisely the kinds of games that i love the most. personally, id prefer to see more games like this and less games that follow formulas or stick to traditionally defined game standards. bravo friend!

the only problem i have is at the broken machine / bridge part of the game, i have created a perfectly fine bridge that i could walk across to get to the door, however i cant use it because when i close the code editor (broken game machine) the bridge disappears so i cannot walk on it. it only exists while the broken machine is open. there are no commands in the learn machine that address this so i cannot get to the next part of the game and its killing me!!!! can you give me a hint or a push in the right direction??

The Treachery of Game Dev by ratking 2017-05-22T11:29:38Z

@ratking thank youu! i played through another time and i honestly dont know how i missed that the first time. it was definitely explained, but for some reason i just seemed to remember carcass talking about the broken machine instead. wonderful game, thanks again! love all of carcass's poses xD

Cryofailure by Neon 2017-05-16T18:48:09Z

hey really cool game! i dont have a VR headset, so i appreciated your video walkthrough. the atmosphere you created was superb. you really felt alone. the sound design was also fantastic. the contrast of the sharp sounds with the general silence of space added to the mood very well. i really enjoyed the part with the mentos looking pills floating out of the bottle. i also thought it was a nice touch adding 'days to the end' and 'expected cause of death' to the console. it made it a bit eerie, i liked it. it was also cool the way the bottle filled up with food and emptied when you consumed them. the bouncy balls were funny. the engine room was clever too with the text for each button press. overall i think the atmosphere you created and the attention to interesting little details were the strongest aspects of the game. its also quite impressive that you were able to do all of this for the compo! bravo friend.

i dont like how the forward movement is so choppy. when you walk forward it shows only a few discrete frames of movement. i dont have any experience with VR, so i dont know if this is a very difficult thing deal with, but it did take away from the experience in my opinion.

the concept was wonderful as was the execution, really nice work! i only wish i had a VR headset so i could explore it myself.

Abaddon by Geckoo1337 2017-05-09T22:11:45Z

hey great game! i really like the shader that you made, its awesome! the visual appeal of this game is a strong feature. the mood is also very good. it was dark and creepy, you actually feel a certain level of anticipation/fear when the giant spiders are rearing their legs up at you! i also enjoyed the screaming guy sound effect ha. my one criticism is that since enemies chase you, it is natural to run backwards away from them while shooting and i tended to fall of the edge of the map as it is rather small. maybe you made this decision to keep with the small world theme, which i understand, but it took away from gameplay. overall i had a lot of fun playing this game, nice work!

PlanetDefense by Sri Harsha Chilakapati 2017-05-02T20:44:33Z

hey nice idea! i like the way you make your defense choices and then the waves of enemies come and you have to deal with the decisions youve made and watch how they play out. that being said, i think that the game would have been more fun if the player had more decisions besides the turret. i also think some variety in the enemy approach would have improved gameplay. i was not a huge fan of the music or graphics, but that is definitely not the most important thing in the context of a game jam. i also experienced some performance problems like other commenters have mentioned when all of the turrets were bought and upgraded. i liked that you can click to pan around the screen, it is a good setup but as there is only enough content to fill the port on the screen, it is a bit useless at the moment. i can definitely see a lot of potential in this game, you could do a lot with it should you decide to continue working on it post-jam.

Lottery: you judge them I judge you by doppelgunner 2017-04-27T23:20:39Z

wow really interesting concept. its sort of rare that a game makes you think about deep philosophical questions like what is the value of a life or is this life more valuable than this other. even though they were just pixels on my screen, i felt uncomfortable at the notion of having to choose. i really liked the subtitle "you judge them, i judge you." it had a certain weight to it. in the end i was down to the crazy person and the doctor, and i figured that i had spun this little world into so much chaos and there was no one left for the doctor to help so i just let the crazy man live and then killed myself. your game was unique and it will make people think. i also anticipate it will make some people uncomfortable. which honestly is commendable. to illicit that emotion out of someone i think gives value to your art. great job!

Pod2000 by nidup 2017-05-19T18:48:58Z

woah nice job guys! i really enjoyed playing this game!! the atmosphere that you created was outstanding. the art and audio came together wonderfully in order to do so. the audio was quite important in molding the mood. i appreciated the little details like the photos taped to the side of the computer, it really added to the game. the text was cleverly crafted as well. i liked 'time for meditation... 00011001010101101101010100110' xD haha. exo-planet LD38 was clever too. i was able to find 2 different endings, i couldnt get any more so idk if there are others. i felt bad leaving my rover behind :( poor little guy.

whenever i typed in a command, i had to press enter twice in order for it to register. i suppose this may have been intentional, but that seems unlikely. i would have loved for more things to do, and other planets to explore, but i understand the limitations. this means that your game was interesting though, and i wanted more!! i would love to see more content if you continue working on this post-jam. great work guys!

Daydreaming Island by camilo 2017-04-29T21:32:00Z

really nice job with the intro sequence! the piano and the text built an immersive mood. i like the minimal art style and you did a great job creating an atmosphere. the controls were janky like others have said. also, i spent like 3 days (in game) trying to figure out what to do in the lighthouse to no avail. i went back to every single interactable item multiple times and nothing seemed to work. this was frustrating as i was interested to see where the game would go. i really like the mystery and confusion that this game brings though. overall i think that this game was pretty good has a lot of potential. it needs a few tweaks to be a bit more accessible though.

RETROHACKER 1993 by Flatgub 2017-04-25T23:12:27Z

man i really like the aesthetic of this game and it feels really good to play. the keyboard typing sound even feels good. unfortunately, i cant get anywhere past the tutorial. when i try to connect to home_modem using the alias or directly using the address, it says connection failed, could not find host. and when i try to connect to the local test rig, there is a game crashing bug. ill post a screenshot of the error message here: http://imgur.com/wvyVnwr . i would really like to continue, especially since others in the comments seem to have made it further than i. am i missing something? or are you supposed to be able to connect to either the home modem or the local test rig?

RETROHACKER 1993 by Flatgub 2017-04-26T20:50:34Z

hey ive played again after you patched the game! thanks for updating, i was stoked to get to keep playing, because i liked it so much the first time. i made it through all of the content you were able to put in for the jam and i loved it! honestly, this game is great. i really hope that you continue to work on this. pleeeeeaaaseee continue to work on this. one note i have is that when you interface, the graphics only take up like a quarter of the screen, i think it would be better if you increased the size so that it took up more of the screen. your message in the game said that you have a tendency to drop projects once you start them, and i totally get that, but i encourage you to keep working on this one because i really enjoyed it and i want to play more!!!!! ill be checking back on here and itch.io anxiously awaiting more content!

OLDDOG by wischutz 2017-05-16T17:12:59Z

hey man cool game! right off the bat the title screen was great! the art was cool and the fuzzy glitch effect was superb, nice touch. then when the game starts the visual effects really hit! absolutely incredible job with the effects, they were awesome! i do think they need a bit of dialing back, perhaps it was a bit of overkill for this particular game, but i love them and i could see a myriad of uses for them in other applications. i also really liked the story you created behind the game here on your game page. it would be cool to see this implemented in the game, either in cut scenes or actual gameplay. the sfx were really good too, i particularly liked the death sound. nice job with the player animation as well.

the gameplay was a bit lacking, but to be expected in a game jam. i tend to enjoy combo style combat in beat em up games, maybe that would be cool to add. i also think that it would be interesting to somehow tie in those bastards that created this fight club. like maybe the player has an owner who trains his fighter and raises stats, or maybe the rich bastards just bet on fights, or even just having a little window with some art/animation that shows them cheering on the bloodshed, i think something like that would carry the narrative and add to the atmosphere of the game. oh i noticed too that in the top left of the screen (the UI that shows the dash recharge) it says "dash (z)" when in fact 'c' is the dash key.

this was a great entry! i enjoyed playing. your talent definitely showed, especially in the visual effects. the music was good too and really fit the mood. i would love to see this game fleshed out, it has a lot of good ideas going. great work friends!

Icarus Isolation by King Kujito 2017-05-19T20:43:09Z

hey nice game. it is really gorgeous! the player is fantastic im very impressed. it felt really cool flying through the skies. i was not a fan of the controls, however. i would have preferred if you could turn left and right in the air instead of rotating. it made it quite difficult to get around. the sound design was nice as well. while the game wasnt a whole lot of fun, i think it is great prototype and i could see it expanding into something much bigger. its worth mentioning again how awesome the player art and animation is, that is some top notch stuff. good job.

The Adventure of Malvin by NOFUEL 2017-05-01T01:37:12Z

WOW fantastic game!!! bravo! the movement feels great, the animations are good, all of the art is so loveable. the level design was what made this game so fun. your level design is the best of any game i have tested so far. i appreciate that the levels were designed to reward the player for sprinting and flowing through sections. there was rhythm to the gameplay which is what i love so much about good platformers. the wall run was a great addition as was the slide attack. i was surprised by the length of meaningful gameplay that you were able to include in such a short amount of time. i would love to play more levels, should you decide to continue working on this post-jam!

Shapeshifter: The King of A Small World by Rixud 2017-04-26T20:32:51Z

nice game. the shapeshifting is a great idea, and i liked the parkour-ish platformer element in the beginning, that was fun. i definitely think some of the parameters could have been tweaked to make it feel better. like movement speed and jump height or gravity, but this being ludum dare i understand that theres not really time for tweaking ha. also character animations would have been nice. i like the world you created. nice job.

Recoil Assault by Banana Man 2017-04-26T01:21:09Z

great idea! the recoil mechanic is a brilliant idea. and using the circle map with enemies all around you is a smart way to encourage the player use the mechanic. i tried to continue turning and shooting so that i both attacked all enemies and stayed on the map, but i still spent most of the time falling off of the map. i see a lot of potential and with some tweaking i think it would feel even better. some level design and physics tweaking would be nice. obviously this was a game jam though, so needing tweaking is to be expected. i like what you have though, good work!

Toy Time Turbo by BadRAM 2017-05-19T19:42:43Z

hey nice job! im really impressed that you were able to create this game for the compo! the concept was great and you executed well. the controls are tough, but its definitely possible to get used to them. one issue i had with this game is that anytime you touch the wall you go completely sideways or backwards. maybe this was an intentional decision to encourage the player to have a flawless run, but there were times when i felt that bumping the wall shouldnt turn the vehicle all the way backwards, especially at very low speeds. overall i enjoyed playing, good work!

Inter-Tidal Snail Breeder Deluxe by uvwar 2017-05-19T19:03:15Z

holy shit this is absolutely gorgeous! especially when the tide rolls in, the underwater effects are superb! really nice work, its impressive. the gameplay is weak, but i think that was not the focus of this game. one note, i always think its a good idea to include the controls somewhere in the actual game. i had to minimize the game to search the page for controls. i also would have loved some audio. the visuals were so good, i feel like if you added some audio it would be even that much better. did i mention the graphics were beautiful?!? nice job ;)

littleBLASTplanet by gamepopper 2017-05-03T21:47:45Z

hey nice little game! first of all the music is wonderful! it was very enjoyable and made me feel a bit nostalgic for many of the NES and SNES games that i love so much. i like the art style as well. the game mechanics were simple, but worked very well. always shooting tangential to the circle was interesting as you could should shoot both grounded enemies as well as enemies descending from the skies. i was aware that you can also shoot straight up, but the tangential shot seemed to work best for me. the gravity worked great as well, which has been in issue for other LD games using a tiny planet with gravity. with the escape, i could definitely see you expanding this game. you could travel to other planets with different parameters. nice job overall, i had fun!

Id's Journey by red-fan-games 2017-04-25T23:59:38Z

hey i had the same issue as iseeicy. i cant play it on windows. i really like your screenshots though! it looks great, wish i could play!

Id's Journey by red-fan-games 2017-05-03T21:32:17Z

hey man still doesnt work for me, i am using windows 10. i ran it in windows 7 compatibility mode. when i run the Tepo.exe file, a command prompt screen opens briefly, and then an openGL window opens and i hear some music/sounds for a few seconds and then the program crashes. im still interested in playing though, if you make some patches mention me in another comment so that i can give it a shot!

Merhygen by rokasv 2017-05-03T22:57:19Z

hey neat idea! i really like the art style and layout of the game. it has a great mood overall. it took me a moment to figure out the gameplay rules, but once i did i was able to quickly beat the game (or get to the two swords level where gameplay ends. i like what you have so far. i think it is a good skeleton to build upon, as you have the core mechanics down. i would like to see some variety in the puzzles, as at the moment the only puzzle is how to approach an enemy so that you when you are one away, you can attack first. that being said i do like the concept and think you should really flesh this game out post-jam!

Astromike by mikea 2017-04-24T22:41:32Z

hey i played your game, great job! i really like the atmosphere and the whole aesthetic. the art and music came together really well. i encountered a bug you should know about. on level 3, when i tried to shoot the pressure plate that drops the 2nd platform, the bullets went through the pressure plate and did not collide or set it off. i died and retried this several times and the bullets continued flying through the plate off screen. when i quit the game and restarted it for a second time, the pressure plate worked and the bug was fixed. secondly, in the first world with the jetpack, no matter how much i try, i am unable to step on the pressure plate and outrun the three bullets that are triggered. unless there is another way to beat the level, i am unable to continue. overall i liked your game though, the puzzle aspect of it is cool and i like the atmosphere.

Path of the Rabbit by managore 2017-04-30T00:19:16Z

fantastic puzzle game! really nice job. the art is great and the game feels polished. its pretty hard which i applaud you for. i think it is difficult to make a hard game that is still possible and is also engaging for a game jam, and you have succeeded. i wish there was music, thats the only real criticism that i have. otherwise outstanding!

Gravity Wars by highlyinteractive 2017-05-19T21:00:23Z

the audio was pretty funny, but also pretty good! i also really liked the warping space-time effect. nice job ;)

A Week's Passing by iseeicy 2017-04-29T23:57:01Z

cool game. the 3D world you created was done really well and was surprisingly large for a game jam. while im open to the mixed 2D/3D style and i think you were on to something with your 2D characters, it didnt really work for me. imo you should keep the 2D character but tweak it just a bit to be more cohesive with the rest of the game. i enjoyed moving through the space that you made, particularly the house felt really good. the game play was not super engaging, but exploring the world was still interesting. nice job!

A Week's Passing by iseeicy 2017-04-30T13:44:24Z

i got to day 2 and did all of my morning tasks, and as they were all the same i thought that the game was a loop. although now that i see other comments, it appears that it is not. i will have to give it another play through. regarding the characters, i just felt that the 3D world was very smooth and clean feeling. the thickness of lines for example is uniform within a single object. while the 2D character is rough, with a jagged outline of varying thickness. theres nothing wrong with this, it just felt out of place to me compared to the rest of the world. but thats just my opinion, others in the comments seem to like it the way it is.

Antagonistic : Hamburger Hill by ryte2byte 2017-05-13T23:20:24Z

hey man rad game! i really like your take on the theme. i thought the view was cool, i liked the 1st/3rd person mash. i also enjoyed the sound design, particularly the acid spit sound. the music wasnt my favorite, but thats hugely subjective, and i must say it did fit the game well. im impressed with how much game balance you were able to achieve in such a short amount of time and in a RTS game no less!! bravo, my friend! i had fun playing, and thats no small thing.

i have a few notes of critique that will hopefully help if you keep developing this game, or simply just for future reference. i think a skip tutorial button would be useful for players who have already played the game a few times. also, i noticed that the game starts when the tutorial does, and so enemies are approaching while players may be reading the tutorial. after my first time playing, i realized that i too could start spawning eggs and placing mounds even while the tutorial is going. so its fair in that sense, but not so much for the first time player. i would love to see more variety in the enemies and more ways for the player to engage with them. obviously this is not possible during LD, but if you continue development i think that perhaps flying enemies could add an interesting dynamic. ways to control the warrior ants would be fun too. i feel like you probably already know these things though and have your own ideas about it, so ill move on. i wasnt sure what exactly happened once an enemy destroyed one of my mounds. do the warrior ants spawned from that mound disappear or do they stay? i think some sort of feedback would be helpful the the player. in general i think there could be a little bit more feedback to the player in other parts of the game too, like when acid hits an enemy for example. some people have mentioned difficulty with aiming, but i found if you just anticipate movement and aim in front of your target you are able to be very accurate. i think that maybe some sort of powerups for the queen ant would be very satisfying. i understand that the slow acid spit contributes to the balance of the game, but if you were able to find some way to incorporate powerups, it could be super satisfying to go HAAMMM for a minute and blast acid or what have you at enemies! in a larger version of this game, perhaps you could take over multiple hills and have different terrain. anyway, i think the overall point is that there is a LOT of potential for expanding this game, its a really great idea to work with. nice job!

btw i got up to 97% of the burger, that was my best score!

Tribal Tension (Twitch) by SaraJS 2017-05-03T02:10:44Z

hey man really awesome game! ive spent quite a bit of time on twitch playing this one, its been cool to see it evolve post-jam. there already seems to be a pretty solid following and thats cool because there is always someone on twitch to play it with. i really like the direction you went with the theme, and making a twitch powered game was ambitious and innovative. also shoutout to snakegg i believe it was who did the music because it is fantastic and really fits the game perfectly. the way you have balanced a game with simple rules is impressive. you have made something really great, nice job!

Haven - The Small World by Iluvatar 2017-04-24T20:03:30Z

hey i played your game! it has a pretty cool narrative, i especially liked the common room. i also liked the part where he says to get to public sector you must be millionaire or sleep with dr. sanders. i dare to assume that you fulfill neither requirements haha. one note i have is that it took me quite a while to realize that you had an inventory if you hover the mouse at the top of the screen. it might be helpful if it were easier to access or if you simply told the player to hover the mouse there. nice job!

A Deity's Envy by Mothrom 2017-05-19T20:54:31Z

hey really cool game! the boss battles were rather diverse and there was a surprising amount of content for a game jam game! i liked the battles but i do think they need a bit of balance. giving the player a chance to dodge boss attacks and making the patterns more clear would make them more fun i think. they dont have to be easy by any means, but it has to make the player feel like it is fair. i think you should continue working on this post jam, you have some really great stuff here, you could expand it into something even better! nice work!

im not sure if when you made a build of your game in GM Studio you changed the build from an installer ( i think is what the default is) to a single runtime executable. i had to run a whole installer thing in order to play. however, if you build it as a single runtime executable, once you download it, you can just double click to play right away.

Flat Earths! by ponywolf 2017-04-26T00:38:04Z

great game! i like the art style. the gameplay is rad, hurling through the world on a dolphin throwing tridents is pretty f'n awesome. i also like the world wrapping and gravity changing, that was a great idea. i would love to see more ways to combat, but i totally understand limitations this being ludum dare and all. nice job!

Small World Mining Company by paulhocker 2017-05-02T20:59:31Z

hey, for some reason your game didnt work for me. i downloaded it and was able to run it, however the controls did not work. i was able to use WASD (but not arrow keys) to move around, but spacebar did nothing. i moved to every possible area and tried to mine using spacebar, but nothing happened. i am playing on windows. there was also no sound, im not sure if there is supposed to be.

World en abyme by lepatryckduffy 2017-05-02T21:13:03Z

Headroom by PhilStrahl 2017-05-08T19:29:58Z

hey really interesting game! first of all the graphics were incredible, i think that is the strongest point to the game. i appreciate that it didnt spell out the game mechanics and objectives and everything, it gave respect to the player by trusting them to explore and figure out what is going on. that is very important to me when it comes to video games. the mouse sensitivity was way too high, i didnt see that you added keys to adjust that until after i had finished the game ha but still thanks for implementing that. i think that a crouch key would have useful as well, but i can understand how that might take away from the size mechanic of the game. the music fit really well, in fact the overall mood while playing the game was good and quite immersive. i also really like the direction you went with the theme, i like to see non-obvious, creative interpretations. well done!!!

Yours by binaryferret 2017-04-25T23:35:29Z

really cool idea! i totally understand that you had to swerve in a different direction and its impressive that you still finished! i can definitely see all of the potential with this and i enjoyed what you were able to implement for the jam! music set a great mood too. great job!

Snake On A Plane by spacedoubt 2017-04-28T23:27:13Z

hey man super clever title! haha fun game, it gets a lot more fun once you are able to see your own tail and have to avoid it. the music was good and it went well with the visual aesthetic. i have to agree with @jk5000, i think that the camera angle should be just slightly higher. i like the idea of having the snakes pov, but in actual gameplay it turns out that it needs to be just a little higher. i would have also really liked it if the camera panned as you move left or right. i think it would be much better than the immediate cut from one direction to the next. if you were to continue to work on this game post-jam, i would suggest adding some cool lighting effects. the plane already seems sort of disco- dance-floor-esque and with some cool lighting, i think you could really add to the game feel. nice work! highscore was 21 :fist:

A Small Earth by Skywilly 2017-04-30T01:36:46Z

Small Planet Tycoon by Querk 2017-04-30T14:26:07Z

hey good game! you did really well making a strategy / resource management game. overall it feels pretty balanced which is impressive for a ludum dare game. the art is not fantastic, but certainly adequate. i appreciated the unforgiving nature of the game if the player makes an error. the difficulty is actually quite good, it took me a few tries to get good enough to place skyscrapers. it would definitely benefit from adding some music and sfx. i also think the building placement needs a little bit of work, there was one area on the planet in particular, the side with the indented terrain, that it was sometimes impossible to place buildings. this is minor though, as the game is still fully playable. nice job!

BOSS DEMON by farfin 2017-04-25T23:43:16Z

hey i tried to play your game, but when i clicked on the .exe file i got the error message "RPGVXAce RTP required to run this game"

BOSS DEMON by farfin 2017-05-02T19:51:29Z

hey, thanks for fixing the file, i am able to play your game now! really nice job. the style is outstanding, all of the art is very clean and polished looking. i also appreciate all of the detail that you were able to include in such a short time, like screen transitions for example were very good. there were some great bits of humor in there as well. i loved at the end, when boss demon tells you to go off into the ocean haha. i did feel like there was no build up to the boss battle and the boss was easy to defeat which was slightly disappointing, but it is understandable that its difficult to create a lot of gameplay in a jam. overall though you have done a wonderful job with this game!

Wake Up ! by GoZz 2017-05-21T22:36:50Z

wow i am thoroughly impressed with your game! unfortunately i was unable to rate it, because i played after the scores have already been released. with such a large number of game entries, there are so many that you just wont see no matter how many you try to play :/ i saw your blog post on the main page though celebrating your wonderful results and decided to check it out. first of all, the graphics are fantastic. all of the art is very well done and created an immersive atmosphere. i liked the overall game concept very much as well. the first time that i used the dreamcatcher and the world changed and it gave me goosebumps! it felt so cool! especially as the ghostly figures appeared. the music was superb and was cohesive with the aesthetic of the game. i enjoyed the puzzle solving too.

the main point of criticism that i have is with the movement controls. it seems others have mentioned this and im sure you are aware so i dont need to go into detail, but the controls just need to feel tighter, more responsive. also the very last door that is opened with the pressure plate, it is quite difficult to time it well enough to jump over the rising bars and i imagine there were some who didnt realize this is what you were supposed to do or were even able to do. i think if you were to make the movement controls more responsive it would fix this issue as well, though.

overall this is near the top of my favorites! the mood and graphics were outstanding and your scores reflect that. great job guys!

The Infinitely Small Room by kroltan 2017-04-29T00:00:20Z

hey really great concept! im impressed you were able to make a world editor/game creator for ludum dare, nice job! the music and art were great and they worked well together. i built a little world, but when i try to run it, the player flashes on the spawn for a moment and disappears. the only level that i can actually play is the first level that shows up when you start the game. i have tried entering different values in the "interact count" input box, but nothing seems to work. i uploaded my level as Pantheon and my username as xxDOOMbox. as i was building, i found myself really craving an adjustable parameter for the height (or z-axis value assuming the floor lies on the x-y plane). as a workaround i could place a platform, scale it to how high i wanted to put another object, place the object i wanted on top, and then delete the platform. the scroll bar under the placeable objects was hard to find as well, i didnt know it was there for the longest time. i think you should try to make it more obvious. i liked the player art and animation as well. great entry!

Destruction Zone by Chronosv2 2017-04-26T00:44:43Z

cool. i like the way the world shrinks as you take damage, that was a neat idea. and the spreadshot made me feel like a bossssss. more diverse enemies would have been cool, but i totally understand the limitations of ludum dare. nice work!

This World Of Mine by Wizcas 2017-05-19T20:00:14Z

hey really great concept! i loved the idea, and the gameplay was actually really fun, which is quite a large thing for a ludum dare game! the room was designed well and the art was very pleasing. unfortunately, the hideouts simply do not work. this is rather unfortunate, because otherwise the game is great! i would love to see this game expanded and the bugs fixed. you should continue to work on this post-jam. good job friend!

Rescue Life! by looking_eye 2017-04-30T01:15:11Z

hey really great idea! i like the concept a lot. you did a nice job with the UI as well. the feeling when first leaving orbit and flying through space trying to land in a new orbit was great. the controls and animation were slightly clunky though, and i did run into a game crashing bug everytime i played. i think when life on your planet dropped to a certain level the event was triggered, however i cant be certain because whenever the event was triggered the game just closed. i did manage to glimpse a dialogue box for split second before the game closes that says "Unfortunately..." but thats the only word i could catch. i like what you were able to implement for the jam, i think you should continue to work on this and it could be much cleaner and tighter. nice work!

Twitch Assault by Bioblaze 2017-04-25T23:40:13Z

same issue. interested in trying it out thoughhhh

Rogue Basement by Steve Johnson 2017-04-26T20:07:15Z

hey nice rogue-like! i liked the level design and how it played somewhat similar to chess, trying to line up rock throws and anticipate enemy movement. i really liked the music! and it was awesome that the music changed as the player progressed. i do wish the movement was more responsive. when i hit a key, it took like a whole second before the player responded and moved.

RNG by junjunlowpoly 2017-05-19T19:22:46Z

hey nice game! really interesting concept, you definitely scored high in innovation! it makes the player think about the game completely differently than if it were a traditional rpg style. the art was really good too and the gameduck was a nice touch. i wasnt a big fan of the audio. they got the job done, but there werent particularly enjoyable and the sound when you encounter something was too loud and sharp, i had to turn the volume way down to avoid it. the concept was the strongest part of your game and you executed it well. good work!

The Epic Quest For The Mighty Croissant by 0x0 2017-04-25T22:50:19Z

great looking game! i really liked the art. the portals and world rotating were super cool too and i liked the music a lot. made me feel like i was going on an epic quest! the combat system was frustrating though. i wish there were some way to avoid damage. it seemed that no matter what the player had to just continue dying and running through all of the worlds to deal a little more damage on the wizard guys. great submission overall i was impressed!

Retro Rabbit by wtoa 2017-05-02T20:50:21Z

hey really nice job with this game! the graphics and audio are outstanding. i especially liked the music change when you enter munch mode, this was super satisfying! i also appreciate the attention to details, like flashing the objects when munch mode is almost up. these sorts of things are easy to overlook or simply leave out in a game jam, so nice job. the game over music was really nice as well. i really liked the mood that this game had, the art style and color choice were nice together. well done!

ZEUS VS MOLES by Fouralex 2017-04-30T01:03:19Z

hey man cool game! the concept is good and i liked the art style. the attack felt really good, you did a superb job with that. the movement of the planet was a little squirrely sometimes, the controls and world scrolling could use a bit of work, but it didnt really detract from gameplay. at first i didnt really like the click to move controls, but it did sort of start to grow on me. i like that you can have a long distance attack with the click to move controls, but for some reason it just didnt feel quite right. im not sure i would prefer WASD controls or not. another idea is that you could click to move and then use WASD to scroll the planet. or perhaps the click to move control just needs some small tweaks. overall i enjoyed playing this game, nice work!

Monolith by samlo 2017-05-02T20:10:24Z

wow awesome game! i was very impressed with this game. i really enjoyed the variety of enemy bullet patterns. the art style was fantastic as well, particularly the ship you are flying just feels good to fly around. the three jetstreams on the ship were a really nice touch. i felt like the lockon fill-up meter should decrease slower when you are not locking on, so that you could dodge a bullet quickly and go back to locking on. however, i do see the difficulty that you probably face when trying to get the balance for this mechanic just right. i also would have liked some sort of indication of my health. those small gripes aside, this game was really fun to play and it felt very good. i liked the music and it fit cohesively with the rest of the games aesthetic. the camera movement was also very nice, i almost forgot to mention that because it worked so well you tend to hardly notice it as a player. the only other downside to your game is that it wasnt a compo submission, so i cant peek at your sourcecode to see how you did the ground scrolling xD! nice job with that too by the way. awesome job, this is definitely one of my favorites!!

WIP: World In Progress by JEJoll 2017-04-26T00:30:30Z

i really like it when you destroy a planet! the explosion animation and sound felt really satisfying!! the controls didnt feel particularly great though. those could use some tweaking in my opinion.

Warpy's World by Nilanjan 2017-05-19T19:51:52Z

hey interesting game. i like the strangeness of it and how it is driven by the players curiosity. the puzzle element was interesting, although it was quite ambiguous. i liked the art style and the rain sound was nice. overall id say you have a really interesting prototype and i think you could flesh it out into quite a nice game. good work.

Diminishing Lands by drazil100 2017-04-28T22:27:50Z

hey man really nice game! the concept it wonderful; the shifting platforms give movement and life to the game, great idea. some other people mentioned that when you jump off a wall you return to the same height and they couldnt wall climb. i found that if you hold jump until you reach maximum height that you can in fact wall climb. although i must agree that you should be able to jump higher off of a wall. i think the problem is just how far horizontally you move away from the wall before you are able to move back towards the wall. if that were decreased, i think the wall jump would feel much better. also i really liked how the difficulty ramped up as time went on. after a while the blocks were disappearing super quickly and the platform groups were smaller and smaller, it made gameplay hectic in a good way. i did feel like if you went to the bottom coins first, it was really difficult and sometimes impossible to make it back up to the top to get those coins. this may have been intentional: make the player go the the top ones first in order to be able to get them all. however, i think just a tweak to your platform generation to make it possible to climb back up to the top coins would be much better. the music was great too, nice job! really great entry, bravo!!

Strangeness by philomory 2017-04-26T01:09:42Z

hey im unable to run your game. im using windows, i downloaded the zip and extracted all the files. when i click on the .bat file a console (command prompt) screen flashes for like a millisecond and disappears.

Yourselves by Kloki 2017-05-03T23:30:18Z

wow! incredible game! the past lives/ghost player mechanic is a great idea and it was executed very well! it created some interesting puzzles and makes the player really think about the game world and what is going on. it requires the player to think into the future, what WILL they do in the next phases of play. the art is very well done, the lighting was pretty cool as well, the player characters seem to be glowing which was really cool. i also liked the walking sound. i would have enjoyed some music, that could have definitely added to the atmosphere. overall the level design was good too, the puzzles were interesting to solve. however there were a few downfalls. there were times when a character that is spawned later in gameplay (i.e. red or purple for example) and either by mistake or when a ghost player pushes you into an area that you cannot get out of and have to restart the entire level. one way to possibly get around this would be to add a restart that only restarts to the most recently spawned color. this was an impressive entry, it felt really good to play, it was clean and tight. it is obvious that your team is very skilled. you should continue to work on this game post-jam and expand upon the good ideas that you have. nice work!

A Growing Adventure by frankiesmileshow 2017-05-20T01:46:02Z

hey really great game! the concept was interesting, it was a great direction to go with the small world theme. i liked that you kept the controls to the arrow keys, that felt good. the art was wonderful, i think that was the strongest part of your game. at first i couldnt decide if i really liked the temporary attack and defense power ups, but combined with the permanent increase provided by leveling up i think it is a good system. overall there was a fun sense of discovery to the game and it had a great atmosphere. it also felt very clean, its impressive that you were able to make something that felt finished for the compo. this game also kept me hooked which most of the LD games i have played did not. this is definitely one of my favorites, great job!

Johi Farm by AVAVT 2017-04-26T22:14:42Z

hey great game you guys made! i really enjoyed it. im impressed with the amount of gameplay you were able to implement in 72hrs. i was pleasantly surprised by a boss battle once you grew the plant! the animations were really good and i liked the music as well, especially the song in the credits. one note i have is that it would be nice if you could pull as well as push objects. more combat options would be cool as well, but keeping it simple is the name of the game in LD so i get it. oh i also loved the little bug that frantically paces back and forth hahaha. and hes so overwhelmed all he can manage to mutter is JOHI!!! xD this is one of the best games i have tested so far, bravo!

Globe Trot by Richard Michael Smith 2017-04-26T21:58:01Z

hey nice game! it feels really good. its really tight and clean, its obvious that you have talent making games! the bullets have some interesting behavior when you are shooting and constantly spinning. the game is simple but enjoyable. i liked the tall buildings as well, they were fun to fly around. i would have liked some more variety in enemies and maybe powerups or different weapons. but tweaking is hard/impossible in ludum dare so i understand ha. nice job!

Planetoid Piracy by RobotSoulsGames 2017-04-28T23:16:49Z

hey cool game! i like the jet pack, really lets you explore and by revealing a small part of the map at once, you feel like you are exploring/discovering. i think it would be nice if there were some sort of objective marker, or compass, or something showing places you could go. kind of like the home radar you had, but just for other places as well. the music was sort of comical in this setting, and while it was enjoyable, i didnt feel like it was cohesive with the art style. also the bullet sound was way too loud and overbearing. overall i think the concept is great! you should continue to work on this! i like what you have set up with the block building / terraforming, and would love to see you expand upon that idea. i can definitely see a lot of potential for expansion of this game. i would like to see some kind of boss battles. maybe as you are taking over certain planets/bases, you have to defeat a boss protecting it or something. overall though i really like the concept, and you did great with what you were able to implement for the jam. nice work!

Pigs Mayhem In Space by arielsan 2017-04-30T00:05:36Z

hey great concept, it was a nice take on the small world theme. it was executed very well too. the game is clean and tight. i wish there was some sound and music. it would feel much better i think with some explosion sounds when the fireball things make contact. i liked the art style very much and the pig characters were great. i agree with takusan, this game could be expanded into a bigger game.

Marbleverse by Marc Grabow 2017-04-29T23:42:31Z

hey really nice game! the concept was fantastic! the alien animation was hilarious too. as was mentioned above, i was unaware that the goal was to generate the most churches although it seems more obvious after you already know xD the idea was so good though and executed well. you should continue to work on this, there is a lot of potential for expanding it!

Slightly Angry Max by Takusan 2017-04-26T22:42:36Z

hey really cool game! i know you didnt make the music but i really liked it! the intro was funny. i think the overheating bar was a really great idea. it could use some tweaking and game balance, but there is just no time for that in the jam, understandable. i liked how everything came together cohesively. i loved the ! boxes. whenever i got one it was super satisfying. I AM UNSTOPPABLE! xD oh yeah the direct download link is dead. i got a 404 file not found error. great job!

@rombus hey thank you so much! i love earth worm jim! i totally didnt even think of that when i made this, but now that you said that it reminds me of it too. thanks for the linux note too, i was curious if it worked on anything but windows.

Afterbirth by xxDOOMbox 2017-04-26T01:27:26Z

@takusan thanks m8! funny you say that, because i didnt even have time to make an animation for the mom, so when the baby squirts out, she actually remains pregnant xD. my excuse is that she has twins and the other twin is still inside. grounds for a sequel!

Afterbirth by xxDOOMbox 2017-05-04T02:05:05Z

@iseeicy thank you! yes it is an original sound file, all the sounds that are recognizably computer generated (like jump and hit) were made in BFXR and all other sounds (squirt out, splat, stop that babehhh) were made with my voice. i agree it is too easy and short. hopefully i can implement more in future Ludum Dare compos. thanks for the feedback!

PiP: A multi-layered puzzle game by Clickmation 2017-05-16T17:42:23Z

wow! i love this game! really nice job. i loved the player animation. i dont know how you made so few pixels look like they were a blob plopping along. the sideways movement was particularly nice with the head bob. i loved that you could go into blocks and manipulate them to affect the 'outer world.' the transition animation going into blocks and going to the next level was super cool. the recursiveness (if thats the right word) is interesting and makes you think about how scale can be infinite and how perspective is so relative.

while i loved that you could go into blocks, i think that there needs to be a bit more indication of which blocks you can go into. i had no problem finding them, but im just thinking of the player population as a whole. honestly, i enjoy when a game doesnt hold your hand and you have to explore and figure things out on your own, so idk maybe you dont need to make it more obvious after all, but its something to think about. i also would have loved more levels and more complex puzzles. obviously i understand the limitations of a game jam. i think you should continue working on this though, it has huge potential for expansion. you should make an itch.io page so that i can follow you and if you continue this game, ill be able to easily find it. if you host other works of yours there too, then i could find that as well. oh really nice job with the music too! it fit the whole mood and your art style well. great entry! i really liked this one. bravo.

Limited Space by Vidinu 2017-05-16T18:18:21Z

hey sweet game! i really liked the console that typed the tutorial and informs the player throughout the game. i especially liked the little glitch effect that the console does every now and then. although i must say that the typing speed of the console is much to slow, it should be faster. i also think that you should add a button to skip the tutorial for players that have died and are restarting the game. the music was nice and fit well with the game. the UI was fantastic! really nice job with that, it made the game feel clean and tight. i think the player bullets should be larger. another thing that might be nice is when a player is landed on the remains of a planet and time is running out, a warning alarm when time reaches a certain number would be a nice touch i think. i also think it would make sense for the crew members to have to return to the ship in order to leave the planet. it was unclear whether or not gathering resources was faster if more crew members where on that tile. for example if two crew members were gathering resources from the same tile, i think it should collect faster than if one crew member were gathering. i think the game needs a little more balance as time seems to run out very quickly and resources gather very slowly. i also think it would be nice if at the game over screen you included text that tells how you had a game over. for example, 'game over, you ran out of food." because there were a few times that i had a game over and i had no idea why. i really like the concept and i had fun playing. i can see a lot of potential in this game and i think you should continue to work on it and expand the game! great work!

KeyPuppers by AntaresValdemar 2017-04-26T00:05:52Z

i like how the game takes place on a keyboard and that your keyboard irl controls the game. i can see the potential in that. the pups and the music were cool too. would like to see some more mechanics, but trust me i totally understand its ludum dare, you dont have timeeeeee.

Giant!! A LD38 Game by Twistashio 2017-04-26T20:23:04Z

hey ive had the same problems that others have mentioned. the music, however, is fantastic!

Star keeper by Alexandr AndroidDev 2017-05-19T20:16:59Z

hey cool game! the art is wonderful. the style is great, it was really pleasing to look at. the music is fantastic as welll!! honestly i think that is the best part of the game. the art and music also went together very well so that it built a nice atmosphere. the gameplay was not really fun. shooting the clouds was too slow and there was an overall lack of feedback to the only game mechanic there was. that being said i still enjoyed it quite a bit because of the art and music. if you continue to work on this after the jam (and you really should) i think you could bring the gameplay up to the same level as the art and music and it could be really fantastic!

Amoebros by Spinaljack 2017-04-26T00:20:27Z

interesting. i like the visuals, especially the zoom in and zoom out. it really felt like i was floating in a petri dish ha! i like the idea too. unfortunately, to me it seemed too cryptic to really get the hang of. also a bug note, when i change a parameter and the cost goes up, when i try to change back to where the scroll bar was originally, the cost still continues to go up. i feel like if you change a parameter, and then decide you dont want that change, you should be able to undo it and the cost would go back so that you could spend it somewhere else.

Den by La mecanique du plastique 2017-05-01T02:48:09Z

Planet Spin by SoulPixel 2017-05-19T20:05:37Z

hey nice idea! i liked the concept it was interesting. the art was pretty good and i liked the music a lot. i think it does need a bit of balancing because i found that if you just constantly spin you can satisfy everything on the planet. it was an interesting take on the theme and was different than other tiny planet games so good job with that. nice work.

FLUORIDER by anim_ace 2017-04-26T01:02:29Z

GREAT! this is awesome! i really like different combo style action type games and this did it justice. i love the music and all of the sounds. and the way the enemies fly away when you hit em with a good uppercut. it really felt like i was beating the shit out of them ha. and i swear the sound when you do the down+z or up+x attack is JUST like the flying knee attack from double dragon II on NES. you got some good game feel going. i would have liked it if the player could take damage from enemies. being invincible takes a bit away from combat. and enemies spawned endlessly so eventually the screen is just full of them. but those 2 things are completely acceptable this being a game jam and all. really great job, this game reminded me of all the old NES action games i love so much.

Fatal System Error by David Bocek 2017-04-29T23:19:10Z

hey could you possibly host your game on another site as well? on my computer theres a bar across the top of the gamejolt website that says unable to connect to gamejolt. i have tried downloading your game but am unable to. however, ive been able to download games on itch.io and google drive, etc. all day. i would really like to play your game.
