Hey there, this game was so very creative, I enjoyed every minute I played of it, I think the only thing that could make this game better would be more stages, I think you did a great job, and I hope you add to it in the future!

Hi, had fun playing your game, the levels were well designed, felt like each one I had to use different methods to complete them. I can see this being a small fun game with more levels and being more polished. The thing I disliked the most was your character being the next level, it may be a cool concept in theory, and it's executed well(with the zoom in and everything), but I think I rather have a proper main character. Check out mine https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/$19963, I'd love some feedback as well :)

Fun idea - if you want to take it further, I'd consider two main things: decreasing the hitboxes on both lava and the ball (they really seem arbitrary now), and making the ball much heavier, so it doesn't behave like a ping-pong ball.
The first is my main grievance - many times it seemed that just flying by the lava makes you dead.
Other than that - a fun entry and a job well done, nice spin on the theme.
@xmatos Thanks for your return. I appreciate.
Yes i understand about the character. It does not participate of the game identity and the player identification. I will think about this I'll try your game with plesure ;)
@Takusan Thanks to, it's very cool
I consider your comments with great interest. Thank you
Yes hitboxes are very bad now... and the physics too. I'll try to make this better. Thank you

@lepatryckduffy don't take my earlier comment the wrong way - it's a solid piece of work, those were just some suggestions if you're planning to release a post-jam, more polished update. And only those two things, the idea is good, plays well with the theme and it's awesome you completed this during the Ludum Dare!
Cheers!
@Takusan haha Don't wory I understood. And I was taking it in an ultra positive way. It's mabye my bad english :p No probleme. It's very cool. Thank you very much.
Original concept, goes along well with the title "World en Abyme" ! Controls were really responsive, the gameplay works very well ! As said above, I also had a few collision imprecisions with the lava, espescially in the level with a "S" shape. And the "ball" going up while turning the world was a bit unnatural for me. But it was really nice to play this game, you even had enough time to create 2 different ambiances, good job ! Good entry ! :thumbsup:
I was just missing an Escape button :smile:

I really liked you game! I think the idea was fun, and well developped. Riddles are something I love and I found this in your creation, which I enjoyed so much! As a non-graphist creator, you managed to do something pretty pleasant, and I approve the effort :) Maybe some more sounds for the ambiance would be cool, and a physic better executed too ;)

Since voting is up, I left you a rating in addition to earlier feedback. Cheers!
Fun little puzzle game.
Sounds could be better but I really like it :) Nice little puzzle game!

I was surprised a bit when played your game, because it's exactly what my friend suggested for "you control the game not the player" theme :)
Anyway, the mechanics are cool are I liked art too. Someone said that real character is better than next-level-thing, but I disagree, I liked this part too.
Maybe just levels could've been a bit larger, I've cleared each of them very fast, except for one before last. Actually you can try do add bunch of levels and maybe make them a bit larger and publish extended version of your game at some store. I've seen similar concept before, but there probably would be enough people who will wish to play such game anyway.

World en abime is a very clever game slowly introducing new game mechanic to the player.
My only complain about this game is that it ended too quickly, I wanted more of it :) Of course I understand the limited time frame of the jam, but this is a good thing, it means I had fun and enjoyed the game a lot.
I didn't suffer as much as other reviewer of the physic, for me the physic was good enough for the game play.
The art style and sound design is fitting the game as well.
Overall: a great game I advice anyone to try!
(You can see me playing this game for the first time on the vod https://youtu.be/lXUmif8KKxM?t=3h19m40s )
@yami-no-tenshi-8 thanks, yes there are some imprecisions i'll will fixe that. "espescially in the level with a “S” shape" yes this level is strange with the gravity. "I was just missing an Escape button :smile:" haha yes it's very true... :p
@Jane-pr Thank you very much. Thanks a lot for the art vision :)
@Faithcaio @Rahtainka Thanks :smile:
@JayTord Haha okay. I would be interested **to have the link of this game**! Please :) In fact there are lot of games with the concept: "you control the game not the player" on app store, and other store. Super monkey ball is the most famous !
Thanks, yes after reflection this would change the mechanics too much. Yes make more levels (a bit larger too), fixe the physics are my priorities. . I'll try it :p
@Togis Thanks, Haha yes it's positive, i note for the physic. Thanks for your stream

There is only one problem with this game, I needs at at least 30 more levels. Well done.

Nice game and really interesting concept! I have never played a game like this before and it was a lot of fun. The idea of having the player be the next level was pretty cool! I also liked the graphics a lot. The sounds could get some slight improvements and the lava sounded exactly like in minecraft in my opinion. Also the second last level was really hard compared to the other ones. Overall a really nice game I can recommend to everyone!
Since you said in your post that you would try out our games I will post a link here :)

First of all the game looks incredible!!! The puzzles are nice. This would make an excellent mobile game as it is quite addictive. I think short levels serves the game well as players will not feel frustrated if they fail again and again. Great job looks really polished!

Hi man, as others have said the physics were a little weird sometimes - other than that the gameplay was pretty entertaining. Good job :)

The game is very fun. It's simple yet so addictive. It's also not too hard nor too easy. I had very good time while playing it!
- Wow what a game!!! - game design is so good that i played 50 times - very unique i enjoyd playing it but level 6 seems to be very difficult - you have the next level designed in the present level ball (Man that idea was preety good )

Loved this game! Short, fun, and good-looking (just how I like my women :p). The art reminds me of Fez, and the puzzles remind me of The Bridge, which are both some of my favourite puzzle games. If you ever decide to make a longer version, hit me up because I find it very relaxing.

Loved the world-ception idea! Better physics and little bit more smoothness would go a long way here I think.
Really cool mechanic. It's very unique. Looking forward to a longer version!
Nice graphic!
That was fun! A simple little physics platformer with a fun twist on how to tie the levels together. The physics of what happened to your ball during rotation felt a bit weird though. It felt like the ball got some weird momentum that took a while to get used to, not sure how to describe it. Might be worth it to make the collisions a bit more forgiving with the lava pools! All in all it was fun though. Link to the stream where I played it: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/139473859 (starts at 3:10:13)

As it was said by others, game has some minor unpolished places with lava and ball hitboxes, and with weird ball behavior during rotation, but all other things are good - nice graphics, interesting gameplay core idea and beautiful next level animation.

Awesome concept! Amazing use of the theme. Had some issues with the physics, but overall great job!
I struggled a bit with hitboxes, but it was nice! I like the concept and the game looks nice. :]

This is very cool! My favorite part of course is when the camera zooms in and you find that the next level is inside the ball. The turn to purple theme just before the end is a nice touch as well, which built anticipation.
This is actually a really strong entry with innovative gameplay, clever puzzles, and a strong aesthetic. So while my pain points were minor and I might not mention them for a lesser game, I want to list them even though they're small:
I think there was a slight bit more finesse that could be applied to the physics and the hitboxes. A few times I hit the underside of some lava when I thought I had not. When turning the world, the initial inertia of the ball caused the ball to move in a way that was a little startling and made me not feel as smooth as perhaps I could have.
The sounds were nice, and the ambient ones helped the mood, but I think you lose some feel by not including sounds on the core interactive actions. A small subtle grinding sound for rotating the world, and a bumping sound for when the ball hits things would have made the game feel more alive and real to me.
Anyway, those are tiny things, this is a great entry. Very nice work!
I made it to the end !:sweat_smile:
Very good game. Sound, graphics and gameplay are all fine. I like the idea.
A death animation would have been a great addition. Maybe the "jump" effect when we turn a bit strongly the word is a bit too strong, but maybe I say this because this is the main cause of my deaths. :wink: Like someone says, the ball/world would simply be/feel heavier. The hitboxes are maybe a bit too big as well. I like it when it is possible to pass really close to the danger... and even a very little bit inside it.

@lepatryckduffy can you check osx version please? It quits instantly right after launch without any message.
Great game! I loved the concept, very original! Also, well executed levels. The movements/physics of the character need a little of refinement, but for a jam, this is very good overall!
The character being the next level minimized was a clever and interesting touch! And I really like moments like when you reach the later levels, where the previously benign world becomes black and evil-looking... haha. Cute visual correlation with the progression of the levels!

We need more levels! Ball collider a bit strange, I was expecting it's to be more solid and more predictable. Since it's a physics sandbox, you could also add more physical non-static obstacles: logs, barrels, boxes and etc.
Here is my playthrough: https://youtu.be/yereD-4tYbM
It was fun to play. Thank you!
OMG!! The level changing idea is very cool and fits the theme perfect!! Best theme implementation so far. Keep up the great work.

I love the level in the ball idea, very cool! The graphics were very nice. If I had to change one thing in that department, that would be getting rid of the overzoom and instead zoom directly to the target size of the level. In general the level design was very good with a nice difficulty ramp-up to keep things interesting.
Unfortunately I lost patience in the first dark level because I found the collision detection to be a bit imprecise. Either that or I sucked too much. I think the game would have benefited from tighter definition of when the ball touched a forbidden surface or not. If it rolled slowly, I had the feeling that it counted as a hit before the ball made contact, but if it moved quickly it would pass halfway through the lava before registering as a hit. The physics were a bit frustrating at times as the ball would sometimes bounce back directly into an obstacle much more than I expected, but that could also be explained by me being bad at the game.
Overall a very likeable entry that would have been even better with some atmospheric music.
Can't get the Mac version to start. /: Get this message:
``` Player data archive not found at `mac.app/Contents/Resources/Data/data.unity3d`, using local filesystem ```
Since this seems to be a Unity game tho, you should do a web build if you can anyway. c:
Love how the next puzzle is inside the rolling ball! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmUpejMpTcM
Had a lot of fun playing. I thought this was a great implementation of the theme, and I'm glad there were a fair few levels. The physics seemed a bit wonky at times, but not to the point of frustration. Good job!
