Ok, so this game is pretty good. A nice concept, but here are my issues:
- The UI is clunky and slow (when I click a button, it takes a few milleseconds to respond, when it should be instant)
- The UI has little feedback - when I hover/click over a button there is no feedback
- Your character moves like a turtle
- A lot of the text runs off of the buttons
- The text on the employees menu is all jumbled and impossible to decipher (decipher get it)
Thanks for the game though, it's pretty damn fun once you get past the UI problems. :-)
Super fun game! The controls are a little less tight than I'd prefer, but other than that it is very well designed. I didn't like the music much, and the game unfortunately lacks a mute button... anyway, good game!
The graphics are great - one thing I didn't like about them though was the sword animation. I think a wide swing would have been better than a thrust.
The gameplay itself is pretty fun, though it seemed like the bow was 100x better than the sword.
Overall great game - good job!
Interesting game. The pixel art is pretty good. Though, the window is absolutely tiny, and I think it's too difficult - I haven't been able to survive more than one battle without dying.
Decent little adventure. My biggest gripe is that the directional buttons are a) in different places each time and b) take forever to fade in.
I didn't finish because it was fairly difficult to tell what was happening in the story and what the clues I picked up even meant.
The ambience is good though and the random generation is certainly interesting.
The idea was very good, unfortunately I had a couple of problems:
- The yellow/red shapes move just as fast as I do and follow me ridiculously closely, making it impossible to rescue any more shapes
- The yellow/red shapes can go into the blue "safe" zones and eat everyone I've saved
The executable doesn't work for me (64-bit windows) - it just opens a ton of processes but no actual windows.
Your best game so far, Quill!
Very fun game! Couple of problems:
- It's not always entirely clear what shape is best for what enemy.
- The witch's projectiles don't seem to work super well
Did you really make the music yourself? It's impressive!
I can't make it past the second round of bats... :-)
Great game! Good job!
Decent game, but a few problems. The Z axis is unlocked, so it's very easy to fall off the side without doing anything wrong.
The capsule and the sphere have movement besides the controls, which means that when you try and control it, it still rolls away which is annoying.
Finally, the camera is way too zoomed in, you can barely see anything around you.
If you use just the square, it's a decent platformer, but the capsule and the sphere have too bad controls to be fun.
Pretty fun game! It took a minute to get used to, but once I did I spent a good 10 minutes straight playing it.
It's fairly interesting. I feel like it could have used more interaction than the occasional dialogue prompt, because I found myself quite bored after a couple conversations.
The end is a bit strange, too. "FREEDOM" ...ok?
Loved it! The concept is just hilarious to me for some reason, and the gameplay is surprisingly fun. I keep dying on the third level though.
I agree with Sawtan that the graphics should probably be scaled up a bit.
WOW. That was fantastic. I love horror stuff like this, and this was just wonderfully creepy and atmospheric. Surprisingly well voice-acted too. Good job!
Favorite line:
"You can't go to cornwall and not go in one cave."
"I can go to cornwall and not go in one cave!"
Great game! I would give it five stars, but there are two big issues:
- Physics can be wonky at times (although I can understand why - UNITY!)
- The gutters on the sides are badly placed. I can't tell you how many times I launched a ball, only to have it bounce directly into the gutter without any way for me to intervene.
Besides that, it's a pretty great game - I mean, it's pinball! Who doesn't like pinball?
Hey, sorry for taking so long to leave feedback after playing it on-stream, but here I am. I played a bit of it after the stream and I still can't manage to win lol. Fun game with very pretty graphics and a solid concept. I haven't encountered a single bug so I suppose that my only complaint would be the difficulty. Although, as always, that may just be me sucking at video games.
Sorry for taking so long to get this comment out, I've been distracted for the past few days. Pretty much what I said on stream - I love the graphics and the idea and everything about it. I just wish it weren't so difficult because I still have not gotten past the wooden bridges :p. Well, if I ever manage it, I'll comment here again. Again, love the game! Hope you do well in the ratings!
@Firewill Thanks! Although the Zinglebums (god that word is so dumb lol) should be shooting no matter if you're looking at them or not...
@pschichtel It's as statically linked as it gets, the only DLL is OpenAL which cannot be statically linked.
Loved this game! Short, fun, and good-looking (just how I like my women :p). The art reminds me of Fez, and the puzzles remind me of The Bridge, which are both some of my favourite puzzle games. If you ever decide to make a longer version, hit me up because I find it very relaxing.
Hey man, sorry for taking so long after the stream to get here with feedback. I love this game though! The collapsing mechanic is just soooo unique and interesting. I don't think I could have programmed that if my life depended on it. I really wish there were more level so that I could keep playing, but it's the ludum dare.
Oh, and the box art is incredible.
Hey, sorry about taking so long to actually come here and rate the game. I think my main problems with the game are the same as I was talking about on stream - it's a little difficult to understand what's going on, even after reading the help menu, and it's very difficult to actually beat the game after you understand the rules. I've played a couple times since the stream, and I still can't manage to beat it! Although, that may just be me sucking at games as per usual. Anyway, I still love the game and I hope that you do well in the ratings!
Sorry for taking so long with this review - but I loved this game! Funniest game I've ever played in a Ludum Dare, hands down. Really reminded me of Douglas Adams, which is good because he's one of my favourite authors. Not much to say - just perfectly done I think.
Very fun little game. I am amazed that you managed to create the physics and collision from scratch, especially in Unity which I personally find very restricting on that front. This is one of those games that I've found myself opening up when I'm bored because it makes the next 15 minutes flash by. I wish I was able to play it on my Vita so that I could use it on the bus and stuff.
Very impressive that you managed to make this in such a short time. Reminds me a lot of games like Dungeon Keeper and Evil Genius, which are some of my favourite strategy games. The only problem is that the early game can be a bit boring, but that's to be expected - with only three days there's not much chance to balance out the gameplay. Also, I love the cute little god portraits :)
Hey, sorry for taking so long after the stream to actually come and leave a rating. But I loved this game! It's exactly the kind of puzzle game that I love to play, where you're given no direction and you have to figure out what to do from the world around you. Still haven't managed to get the one way up in the sky, but I'm trying lol. Anyway, loved the game and I hope you do well in the ratings.
I don't really know what you're supposed to do here. No matter what components I select, I get home without any trouble. It's an interesting concept but not quite fleshed out enough yet. I saw that you ran out of time, so it's understandable. I hope you had fun making it - and if you end up fleshing the game out any more past the LD, message me so I can try it out!
Fun game considering the simplicity. VERY difficult, I agree with the other posters in that it should be easier. I got past the first level after 10 minutes, can't pass the second. Loving the banjo-kazooie music as well.
Very unique idea and good execution. Took me a minute to get used to what the meters mean which is unique for a ludum dare - where the game mechanics are complicated enough that it actually takes time to learn. My only real criticism is the train noise which is very grating. I ended up muting the tab to play the game. Fun game!
This is a really fun game! I'm just going to list my pros and my cons because that's easier than trying to write everything out in paragraphs:
*Pros:*
- Huge map - Multiple exits are awesome - Really good variation on the theme - Color advantage/disadvantage provides depth to the gameplay
*Cons:*
- Buggy. - Bullets don't really seem to shoot if I'm standing in a doorway (maybe the bullet hitboxes are too big). - Many bosses seem to just stand there glitched out for a long time. - I also had a bug where every time I hit one of those long green bosses with a bullet, it would increment my counter for them. I didn't realize this until I had 40 green boss counters. - Enemies have way too much health - When I sacrifice a guy to open a door, my next leader is the one on the very back of the snake for some reason, that's a very jarring jump. I'd rather have it go to the guy who's now at the front, next to the door I just opened.
I really liked this game, though, good job! The map in particular blows me away, I can't imagine trying to design a level that big for Ludum Dare.
This is a really cool game. I'm gonna list my thoughts as a pros and cons list, because that's easier than writing in paragraphs:
*Pros:*
- Great visuals---simple but very effective - Great story and writing. There's a big variety of call text, and it's all very well-written (except the one mentioning defenders of the universe, I don't understand that one...?) - Simple but effective gameplay - Ramps up and becomes really hectic and fun
*Cons:*
- Days are too long. I'd prefer 2-2.5 minute-long days that ramp up faster. Right now, it just takes too long for a Ludum Dare game. Generally I assume that I should be able to complete most of a Ludum Dare game in 10 minutes. - The z-order of things covers important information. The wires shouldn't go over top of the dialog boxes, and there should be some way to see the pieces of paper w/ the numbers on them even if wires are over them (maybe make the wires slightly transparent in the spot that they cover the papers? I don't know how difficult that would be in Godot).
A very good game. Definitely resonated with me, personally. The only criticism I have is that the collision detection is a bit wonky. But I'm sure you knew that already. Thanks for making this.
Really well-polished game. The tutorial is perfect. Controls are tight and responsive. As others have pointed out, brutally difficult. Definitely a 5-stars overall though.
@mDuo13 I had a linux build kinda running at one point, but it didn't really work, because of limitations of the engine I'm using. So unfortunately probably not :-(. Might be able to get one running within the next week or so, if so I'll message you :)
@jk5000 That's basically it LOL
Really good! Love the idea, the execution, the art. The audio is a bit funky, and especially the "hmm"s seem to happen a few dozen milliseconds late so at first I didn't get that they were connected to moving around haha. I love the fact that you can undo, the game would be tedious otherwise. With the undo mechanic though, it was a lot of fun figuring out the different obstacles. Good shit!
Really, really, really fun. I played for like 40 minute straight, which is insane for a LD game. I love how I had to really learn how to fish. Especially the net. I eventually figured out how to swing the net around you in circles, which worked really well. The upgrades are great too. I couldn't stop playing until I finally managed to kill and sell a shark. That was awesome.
Heads up - you have to set your itch.io page to public for anybody to see it. The link gives a 404 right now, so I imagine it's set to "draft" right now :-)
Absolutely loved this game. Wow it gets really hard though. The gameplay is well done and a lot of fun, and the overall vibe of the game is awesomely creepy. Really good job.
@mossieur-patate Thanks for the in-depth critique! Yes, the game is very simple and unfinished. I ended up not having a lot of time, so I just submitted what I had in the end - just to say I did it - and since then haven't reviewed anything because I know my game's not really worthy of a score.
It's nice to see somebody enjoyed the game though, despite its shortcomings. Thanks for playing! :)
