LD37 — One room

Poorot by Kurakurt 2016-12-12T14:50:00

Many rooms? Awesome art and +1 for adding poop to your game.

Dark room by cushycode 2016-12-12T17:58:00

I was going to say the exact opposite! Even without the light, one can easily pick up where the cat is and it's even more easy when it pops up somewhere. Good idea nonetheless, enjoyed the graphics, atmosphere.

Automatous Room Builders by Zee 2016-12-12T17:55:00

Nice puzzles! It is hard to progress though, if the whole game restarts when you fail. Not sure how many levels there are but I know from experience it's hard to create these sort of puzzles and you've done it well.

Rent for 30 seconds by Volcanic Giraffe 2016-12-16T19:45:00

Awesome! Great game, catchy music

Rhythm Rink by shillingburg 2016-12-12T17:05:00

Awesome! Great audio, visuals and idea, the combo button was a little confusing though, wasn't really sure whether I was doing it right or wrong.

Absolutely brilliant for 48h compo

Christmas Time by Jon Reid 2016-12-12T14:32:00

Amazing!! As said before - never encountered anything like this.

keturi by mitkus 2016-12-13T16:25:00

A very fun, polished game, good work!

Also, good to see fellow countrymen participating in LD.

Interrogation Room by DiscoFish 2016-12-16T21:35:00

Aw maaan... I'm a no kill guy in MGS and was so proud I got the third digit without punching the dude...

Absolutely amazing art and sound. If I had any following on twitter or whatever I'd be marketing this game instead of mine! Maybe adding some story behind what's happening would be cool. Great work man! beans/10

Test Chamber by ema1ih 2016-12-13T12:14:00

Nice! Although I didn't really get the end, why did he come out of his little office? If so, why did I not get to crush him by jumping on him? :D

Good work guys!

One room, one life by Ygogo 2016-12-13T12:53:00

A great mixture of mechanics, good job!

My camera zoomed in into the screwdriver puzzle too much though, so was not able to finish.

Exit The Room Update 1.1 by Artsicle 2016-12-12T13:13:00

Interesting idea, not too fun though.

P.S. You can embed your game so it's playable on this page by copying over the link from itch.io -> distribute -> embed

PacTwist by Prospero 2016-12-12T22:03:00

Catchy song!

Paper Airplane Attack by kebb 2016-12-12T15:44:00

Sweet! Liked the graphics, controls are hard but that's normal for a plane, as mentioned - successfully shooting a tank is quite difficult. A very good entry.

Also, next time it might be worthwhile to add sounds, trust me even whistles for dropping bombs and mouth-made plane engine sounds would make this that much more fun and add to the overall colorful atmosphere!

The Magic Workshop by KonH 2016-12-12T13:26:00

Loved the intro story! Also the soundtrack.

Would probably be better if restarted that particular cycle of enemy waves rather than the whole game after dying.

Life.exe by wujood 2016-12-14T12:44:00

Didn't manage to complete the game but can say it's fun and well designed!

Might be due to me not finishing but who's on the roof?

My Name Is LD-37 by goncalo-monteiro 2016-12-14T00:21:00

dat waist tho..

Nice entry, great graphics and sound, original idea.

the beuys are back in town by tylerdoggone 2016-12-14T00:39:00

Except for the controls being hard to remember and hence confusing to use, a very unique entry in this LD, good work!

Down the Cave by CandyCreep 2016-12-13T13:23:00

Nice entry, good audio!

Locking the cursor would be a good addition.

Welcome Back by yeknomerif 2016-12-16T20:13:00

Very good! Not too much of a fan of text-based stuff, but kept me engaged long enough to open the door. Won't spoil what happens then, but I assure you it's very Sisyphus-like

VacuumBot by Dvorgaz 2016-12-12T17:49:00

Great! Actually got a heartbeat jump when the cat caught me.. Awesome work!

Beat Kitchen by Compton 2016-12-19T15:09:00

Pretty awesome idea, good work!

ONE really spooky ROOM by Illutax 2016-12-19T15:12:00

A good idea! Found a spot that I could just stand safely in though :D

Studio Castle by sgadrat 2016-12-12T15:03:00

Really like the art and the cymbal! What's up with his orphans burying ME after I killed him?

Also, it's cool the walls on the sides are so effective at maintaining it as just one room.

VR Block Buster by jerwil 2016-12-14T10:04:00

Pretty fun game! And very cool of you to share the source code

clapclap by Emile Danger 2016-12-12T13:10:00

Awesome! Made me smile and the music's great.

Networking™ by erikiene 2016-12-12T14:07:00

Yeah, I didn't leave enough time for leveling the audio out, tried my best though, I heard most of it alright with my headphones and master volume on 80%.

And yeah, the game is simply about escaping the nonsense of networking. There were meant to be more (and better) dialogue traps in there and a lot more sound/visual effects to induce anxiety so that Freedom was that much more satisfying. Since this was my first time creating something "buildable" on my own coupled with the fact I found out about LD happening just before it started, it's not what it was meant to be.

Thank You for taking the time to play it though!

Networking™ by erikiene 2016-12-12T14:20:00

Sadly (or maybe not?) probably most of us irl!

Thank You guys for playing, didn't think it'd receive any attention at all.

Networking™ by erikiene 2016-12-12T15:25:00

Thank You all for the kind words!

I will try and update the build with increased volume, maybe even add subtitles to accompany the audio. Thank you for the suggestion.

Networking™ by erikiene 2016-12-12T16:48:00

I've reuploaded the build with increased audio source volumes. Hopefully that helps a little, although I'm pretty sure most of the problem is caused by my first time experience with recording + dealing with audio in Unity.

P.S. Rules allow patches to fix bugs as long as I disclose it.

And sorry to everyone who had trouble hearing things, hopefully this solves it. Will probably still work better with headphones on.

Networking™ by erikiene 2016-12-12T17:35:00

Couldn't agree more! When the idea was conceived I had all sorts of funny interactions in mind, some easter eggs here and there. Same with the ending (and the beginning) - it was meant to be an in-game cutscene which would add to the feel of anxiety kicking in when entering the room for the first time and then an angel's choir and movement into the light as you finally find your way out of the room creating an expression on your face similar to that of The Dude on your avatar, but alas - lack of time and skills in some fields prevented all this from happening in time.

Networking™ by erikiene 2016-12-13T18:10:00

That was the general idea, but I admit I failed to relay it effectively in the time I had..

Glad You enjoyed it nonetheless and thank You everyone for the feedback!

Networking™ by erikiene 2016-12-14T10:48:00

2Bit, if I had a way to send it over, a 1280*800pixel original work piece would already be on its way!

DDT, yeah those two have influenced me in so many ways, I don't think I'll ever be able create something that doesn't have a touch of Rick&Mort in it.

Ygogo, while I didn't think this would be able to touch upon the more serious implications of the networking culture we have, I am very glad it was able to invoke something similar in Yourself. Thank You too.

Everybody, it means so much to me that many of you got what I was trying to convey, even with this semi-finished version. Even more so when people see things I didn't even intend or think about. Thank You everyone for the feedback and for playing the game.

I intend to make the game a lot better in the near future with more professional models and sound (what sound? I couldn't hear a thing. amirite?) and better conversations, maybe even more efficient dialogue engine which doesn't involve nested coroutines ad infinitum. I'm not saying this is big and everyone should follow me to the new age where an updated version will save humanity, but if anyone wants to see this when it comes out, my twitter's @erikiene, I will be sure to announce it there. You'll notice it's completely empty (apart from a meme thing I did yesterday about this Ludum Dare) even though created 3 years ago because as you might imagine a guy who does not enjoy networking would have similar tastes for social media. But not when it comes to the game world.

Networking™ by erikiene 2016-12-14T17:11:00

Heh, there's definitely an exit and it's more reachable than I intended it to be, but hey, that guy in the corner said he's been stuck there for 9 years trying to get out. Thank You!

Networking™ by erikiene 2016-12-16T21:11:00

Yeah, if I had more time! :D I plan to expand on this quite a bit and will definitely take Your advice into account. There were meant to be at least 3 conversation "traps" across the room that you could not avoid, but it ended up being 2 due to lack of time, one of them just talking alien gibberish, which to be fair is the most popular language amongst people in such events. I didn't want to trap the player every time hence the two... people(?) who would not deactivate your movement and the player could walk away. I feel like in such an event like this jam not many people would play for a longer period of time just to hear out all of the dialogue i recorded and hence quit before even escaping.

Once I add actual gameplay to this, then it can be expanded into more different and difficult to get out of situations.

Sorry about the fullscreen button, didn't even think about it!

And again, thank you everyone for trying it out and for all the compliments regarding the game or its elements.

Networking™ by erikiene 2017-01-01T13:18:00

Thank you all for the feedback, short or long, all of it is appreciated and helpful once I sit down to make a game out of this! Also thank you for the kind words about certain aspects of the entry, it gives me confidence that I am on the right path in one way or another.

Bruce, the escaping ant by pcmxms 2016-12-13T12:50:00

You can embed your game from itch.io to this page by going to edit game -> distribute -> embed and copying over the link given for LudumDare to this entry page. Makes it a lot easier to start playing.

Pretty cool art and a fun game to play.

Executioner by Fuad 2016-12-13T11:40:00

I can see how a lot of time probably went in to the underlying mechanics and the complex system which is probably amazing to experience but is a little undermined by the difficult to understand way of achieving the goal. Maybe something a little more graphic and less choicy? Obviously, this will fit just right for the right crowd.

Great entry nonetheless!

Voyage by TitoMakaniJr 2016-12-14T10:17:00

Lisa's suit is similar specs as mine.. assuming the main char is a man, Lisa's been roasted, son!

sausage/10 - would win rubik's cube in 3 clicks again

Great work!

Pest Control by DoubtfulGames 2016-12-17T17:11:00

Fun game! The changing of weapons didn't work too well though, as mentioned by others.

bread/10 - would pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew ad infinitum again

Death Room 4000 by DalesDiscountTires 2016-12-13T11:01:00

Definitely challenging, remind me of cloudberry kingdom! Great art, solid entry

Polygroom by garywiss6 2016-12-13T16:14:00

That was a fuuuun game! The shop hit me by surprise as well. Good work!

One Gogh by DMinsky 2016-12-13T23:40:00

Really great game, but I think I ran into a bug when one part of the room clipped into another one and so I couldn't finish that level. Doesn't really matter since I still enjoyed the game.

Robot Clash by markusfisch 2016-12-14T00:12:00

gg whoever I just played with! :D Doesn't really work with 2 players but I see it being fun with 8.

Dont Touch The Floor by cinnamonmelonpig 2016-12-13T16:16:00

Some sneaky monetizing going on! :D

Fun game, good soundtrack and graphics. Don't think I actually touched the floor when I jumped over the wall and out of the map

The Recursive Dollhouse by Omiya Games 2016-12-17T17:25:00

Awesome game, wanted to play it from the first day of the jam when you guys put a blog entry in the ludum page of a gif. Also awesome of you to include the source.

Area 51: Dreamland by Pixelfan Games 2016-12-13T10:39:00

Awesome pixel art, good soundtrack. As mentioned before - the controls/camera could use a little patching up, but for a jam, this is great!

Abandon Ship by drakekin 2016-12-12T14:43:00

Took me a minute to understand that the weird controls are probably meant to simulate what orienting oneself in a low gravity environment would feel like. Still, a little too hard to control, especially without cursor lock as mentioned previously.

Otherwise, solid entry, good work!

Obelisk by Almax27 2016-12-20T15:05:00

Beautiful art, story is what captivated me! Great work!

Remote Operations Team - Tactical Extraction Action by HuvaaKoodia 2016-12-14T12:55:00

I'm a sucker for all things MGS, so thumbs up from me!

The Classroom by palsina 2016-12-13T12:40:00

Impressive work! Keeps the suspense going.

The models are great and yes, i concur, magicaVoxel is an amazing tool

Flip by Ramperkash 2017-01-01T18:36:00

Pretty awesome, although I thought it was buggy until I read other comments as the switches weren't doing what I expected them to. Adding simple instructions would go a long way! Good work!

Loading... Please Wait by DeathBySnail 2016-12-12T13:38:00

Feeling inspirations from William Pugh (Stanley Parable, Dr Langeskov), maybe Rick & Morty as well?

Great fun to play through!

Admiral's Room by theholychicken 2017-01-02T21:49:00

Very unique and cool idea! As mentioned previously, my fleet turned around and so I couldn't really advance :D

Great work though guys!

Heavens Inc. by komjaur 2016-12-13T12:57:00

That was great! When it said "Humans figured out how to make fire without your help" I thought maybe this was about religion preventing advancement of science, but probably not, although still funny how it made me think it.

Great art and a good idea!

The Nights by Rscar 2016-12-12T17:44:00

While not a big fan of turn-based tactics, it was indeed interesting to play and see that planning ahead helps.

Great graphics!

Falling Tower by xbcw 2016-12-14T00:48:00

Interesting idea and great work doing this in 48h!

Just a side note - I didn't finish reading the whole of the instructions and naturally, green stuff is good, might want to make "bad" things red or some other indicator of something being bad.

BreakOut by Neonian 2016-12-12T15:08:00

The game didn't really announce that a timed bar appears when you need to come back, so my heartbeat sped up as I ran back thinking holy crap I'm not gonna make it a couple of times before I even saw the bar appear for the first time.

Great submission!

BreakOut by Neonian 2016-12-12T15:09:00

Oh and yeah, the soundtrack is christmassy :D

Blob Catcher by drludos 2016-12-12T15:11:00

The moment I realised combos are possible by smashing blobs in between two others..mind blown

Nice game!

The Growing Room by eerongal 2016-12-12T18:28:00

Pretty cool, I actually was considering a "growing room" idea myself, albeit a 3D one. I think You did it better than what mine would have been, good work!

Hikikomori by Move127 2016-12-12T17:28:00

Same as TT, I beat the game by maxing out the anxiety.. In any case, the art style's awesome, same with the audio. And first entry I've seen trying to tackle/ spread awareness of an actual problem. Good work!

OctaRoom by muriel 2016-12-15T17:09:00

Man, why'd you take away the right to vote for audio, would have voted you sooo high, that was awesome!

Xenopunch by Pietro Ferrantelli 2016-12-17T22:10:00

Pretty awesome! Great art and sound

One Hotel Room by Risse 2016-12-12T13:55:00

Good idea and visuals!

Machina by Drtizzle 2016-12-12T15:16:00

Definitely continue working on this, very interesting idea. The models and the overall atmosphere were great.

Fire Night by ccglp 2016-12-12T13:57:00

Beautifully encapsulated the chaos in the player's face!

RoomOne by Geckoo1337 2016-12-12T22:32:00

Beautiful shader, great everything.

11/10 teach me sensei

Attack of the aliens! by psilon 2016-12-12T14:02:00

A little too easy to click off screen due to the flying aliens when not full screen. Otherwise, as Mik3 mentioned, some easy "juicyness" could be added to the deaths to make them more satisfying. Good work!

Tell me who you are in one Room by bodsey 2016-12-13T11:10:00

Ha! Definitely kept playing for longer than expected. That's what makes a good designer I guess - squeezing out fun out of unexpected places. Good work! The color palette was pleasant to the eye.

Neat (Ludum Dare 37) by HawkSandwich 2016-12-13T12:33:00

Pretty cool! Got my memory exercise for the day

Also, great graphics

Amelia by Xinelu 2016-12-12T15:30:00

My favourite thing about the game: shooting drops empty shells. It's all in the details. Also, reminds me of hotline miami, which I loved.

As mentioned previously, enemy AI could be a little better.

Nice entry nonetheless!

4/4 Room by Remicy 2016-12-12T14:17:00

Love it! Only stopped because I want to rate more games, would continue playing otherwise. Catchy soundtrack as well.

ISS - Infuriating Space Simulator by Scruffy 2016-12-13T10:26:00

Awesome sound, voice & graphics! Controls make it extremely hard but again, it is space so probably intended. Amazing work guys!

Three Minutes to Midnight by BlueTheLemon 2016-12-13T12:46:00

Who cares about grammatical errors, the person knows english well besides his own native tongue and that's impressive and people should be encouraged to make games even if with grammar mistakes especially if they're interesting like this one. If this were some polished game selling for x$, the yeah, maybe then it'd be uncool to have mistakes in there.

Good work, especially on the graphics!

Moonlight Maximum by slimabob 2016-12-12T12:18:00

Fun to play, maybe the movement and shoot rate a little to slow. Also, shotgun didn't seem to do much. Like the soundtrack! Good work for such a short amount of time!!

The F Revenge by Pandanymous 2016-12-14T12:29:00

Awesome idea! Beat it by flying pretty much, might not want to let infinite jumps if you plan on expanding

Sleep Well by vini60 2016-12-12T15:21:00

Missed the instructions somehow so played through levels in complete darkness for a while! Nice entry!

Bouncing Balls with the Boing Boing Boys by Sean 2016-12-16T20:16:00

Aah, good old days of local multiplayer.. Fun game!

The Cursed Chamber by HenryBell 2017-01-02T20:58:00

A great entry, awesome atmosphere! As said before, some issues with combat, but otherwise - great work!

illusianator by JeromWaarom 2016-12-13T17:02:00

One of the first longer games I actually completed! Good work, loved antichamber so naturally enjoyed this, smart puzzles.

Package Madness 2D by rplnt 2016-12-14T00:08:00

Great game, addictive somehow! I did get a queue of about 5 boxes for a country that never got announced, not sure if that's part of the game/ Good work guys!

Nest by Jonathan Whiting 2016-12-13T11:23:00

Great idea, ultra-hard (not sure if in a good way) once you reach 3rd level and beyond, but you thought about that in advance and put in the autoplay, awesome!

Also enjoyed the sounds but the ones made by my own walking rather than the autoplay.

Amazing submission for 48h!

Fantastical Flora by QuestionableQuality 2017-01-01T12:48:00

A very unique idea! I envy one of you (or maybe more) in your team actually having knowledge of botany.

Gameplay is solid, well-made UI, beautiful graphics and sound. Thank You for the experience!

The Dash Club by bigbuggames 2016-12-16T22:35:00

Just... wow. I was feeling the beat so bad I could not stop and even though numerous times I thought "Maybe it's infinite?" I just couldn't get myself to quit. Amazing entry!

Inside by zzapp 2016-12-13T12:19:00

Liked the graphics, although even basic colours would have improved it a lot. Soundtrack was fitting. Idea was great, but yeah, the combat itself not too engaging, for all 3 battles I just stood and tapped ctrl, there was no way i could have lost. Good entry!

Concierge by Zarkonnen 2016-12-13T13:26:00

Honestly, the most wildest and thus best soundtrack of all! The craziness of it struck me before I could even start the gameplay. Good work!

Game won me over when during the first round the promiscuous lady went over and flashed a dead body.

11/10 would concierge again

Scarehouse by MrNyarlathotep 2016-12-19T15:41:00

Controls were a little iffy, but the enemy dying sound is 10/10.

Just a small note - for the compo, the rules are to upload the source, i.e. everything needed to create this game, so not too sure if scripts alone cut it. But eh, i'm not one to enforce those.

IG/IRL by Aun 2016-12-13T16:05:00

AWESOME idea which made me smile. Also, the art.

I would suggest embeding the game into this submission page by copying over the link from itch.io (you go edit game -> distribute -> embed, and there's a link for LD)

Abandoned by Epicruins195 2016-12-14T12:06:00

Amazing! And awesome of you to include source code.

Coincidence by Simple Ghost 2016-12-16T11:50:00

I think the most amazing thing to me is the fact that all of the scene is set up using only unity primitives by what i gather from the source, just cubes and cylinders.. amazing. Also, I couldn't get my lighting right in my own entry, this does it so simply yet looks so awesome.

Good work man!

Coincidence by Simple Ghost 2016-12-16T20:31:00

Ha! Won't lie - it's horrible!

I'll check out the timelapse and once again - great work, would attempt suicide again.

Engine Room by Leon MĂśhring 2016-12-12T18:03:00

Well, I quite enjoyed the stealth part of it! Became a survival-like (think Resident Evil 1) when bullets were gone.

Good graphics and lighting as well.

Roomba Rampage by PeachTreeOath 2016-12-13T13:20:00

Very interesting and polished! One of the better roomba games in this LD (for which apparently the theme is "roomba")

Psychiatry by pixlark 2016-12-16T21:58:00

CannibalHolocaust/10 - would help no one and drive an old man mad again.

Nice idea! But yeah, maybe just 1 second of extra reading time would be helpful

The Infinite Sorrow of a Heartbroken Mind by Viperfish9 2016-12-12T03:07:00

...I used "*cough* walking simulator" in the same exact way in my submission, thinking I was original somehow.

Amazing game btw - the idea (both spacial and narrative), the atmosphere, the model, even the basic soundtrack that fit the piece real well. Good work!

Ludum Dare 38 by FiloGC 2016-12-12T15:38:00

Nice! Captured my interest and motivated to finish through to the end.

If there's a plan to continue development I would suggest adding some sort of funny results screens for particular score thresholds. E.g. Code: 47 Art: 421 shows a mona lisa (or equivalent) and describes the resultant game as an impossible to play bag of glitches.

The Evidence Room by TrampolineTales 2016-12-12T14:25:00

Great idea! Enjoying the simplicity of the mechanics/interface

Escape Pod by creativwhisper 2016-12-13T15:41:00

itch.io doesn't seem to launch the game

Survive by rayriver 2016-12-14T09:54:00

Engaging game, couldn't stop until I completed it, great work!

Pico Factory by caranha 2016-12-13T12:24:00

The fact that machines have different output directions makes it more difficult, i liked that!

Pico Factory by caranha 2016-12-29T20:03:00

Just wanted to pop in again and say thank you for the extremely helpful feedback You gave to me on my entry. So yeah, thank You, it is much appreciated!

The Murder Room by Sawtan 2016-12-12T17:15:00

Definitely hard, died reaching for the first gun upgrade!

And yeah, sound would improve it LOADS. Good stuff!

LudumDojo by Darenn 2017-01-01T13:29:00

Great idea and graphics!

As mentioned previously the game could do with some added mechanics which variate the gameplay itself, which could get boring after a while, but for a jam entry, it's awesome!

MAX by _beta 2016-12-12T13:19:00

Amazingly fun and innovative! Could do with a more intense soundtrack.

Dungeon Siege by Notaveerus 2016-12-12T14:56:00

Not sure how hectic it gets after a while but waiting 30 secs for a "wave" of two dudes might be a bit of a stretch :D Otherwise, nice, solid idea. As mentioned before, could be carried on to a product.

ONE ROOM ONE ROOM ONE ROOM by Phantom Lab 2016-12-16T21:54:00

"Why try to win a game with no rules?" Life, maaan. It's a game with no rules so ya'll need to stop trying to win, just relax and enjoy the game itself.

burrito/10 - would start thinking way to deeply about life and relationships again.

Good work!

Fish Physics by avalkyrie 2016-12-16T21:46:00

VERY interesting idea! Would enjoy seeing what becomes of it if you continue working on it.

+infinity for the fact that you won't hear the music if there's no air.

Couldn't figure out what to do with processed packages that had the green logo on them:/ Great entry!

God this was infuriating! In a good way! Good work

WRK by novotmike 2016-12-14T00:45:00

Yeah man, exactly what most jobs feel like. Good work (pun unintended)!

Neon no Nakama by SimonHutchinson 2016-12-13T15:37:00

Pretty colors, AMAZING soundtrack, great entry.

Would add some sort of "story" behind what's happening, even if it's a simple "You're a firefly who needs to find all the other multi colored fireflies in order to transform into a giant ultra mega firefly and destroy all humanity"... or something better.

Have to say it again - great track.

LD42 — Running out of space

Flood by Megalink 2018-08-25T21:50:27Z

very cool game! definitely can be built upon to make it even more fun (and i think it'd be worthwhile doing so). I very much enjoyed the audio and visuals, and found the flood mechanic to be unique. The only problem for me was the fact you are actively using the mouse, but the game window doesn't have any borders, so I clicked out of the window and a fox killed me before I could come back :( Awesome work, guys!

Free Falling Fluffs by Tymus 2018-08-21T21:38:48Z

ultra cute! I agree with others that maybe the "f*ckers" part isn't fitting too well. I'm never against some good old profanity, but feel like if you choose to make that type of game there should be even more commitment to make it that. Other than that - quite addictive and hard in a good way. Good work on the constant "whoosh" sound, adds so much to the feel!

The SACCULOS Saga by s-ol 2018-08-21T23:14:23Z

Right... First things first - this belongs in Tate modern.

Favourite things (going beyond the fact that the whole thing as a unit is my favourite thing): - the soundtrack of part 3 (and some sequels) - the art of part 5 - the narration and story telling of Textulus - the falling through floor and going for a wild infinite ride through the absurd emptiness of it all in Open World (screencapped below)

I bow to you, great sirs, for letting me experience this.

Running Cosmonaut Simulator by hungare 2018-08-16T16:25:43Z

A hypnotic experience! Not sure if it's all the dots whizzing by or the chill soundtrack (slightly out of beat?), but it was very relaxing. Also, your interpretation of the theme was my first thought when it was announced! Thanks for the experience.

EDIT: forgot to add - unity makes it extremely easy to build to webgl. I'd suggest doing that if you want more people to play the game since it's much much easier to open a browser window than to download things.

Vogon Constructors Ltd by novodantis 2018-08-23T00:56:14Z

Nice work! As others, I liked the graphics, UI & story/humor. The only thing I thought of as slightly negative was the navigation. While it's fun to fly around in space, it is quite easy to get lost or "misplace" a planet you had in mind. To go around this i flew away quite a bit and so could click on any planet from afar but still continue seeing them, but alas, my plan didn't work since clicking on a planet teleports you to it :( Other than that - impressive effort for such a short period of time!!

Squirrel's Revenge by AXaViaN 2018-09-03T19:11:44Z

Nice work! as someone already said - some sort of reaction (either audio or visual) when the nuts hit the woodcutter would be very valuable to the game's feel. Otherwise - extremely well adjusted controls, feels smooth. And a great and cute idea for the theme!

Shooting out of Space by ginger9 2018-08-20T22:04:12Z

Awesome idea! really liked how hard it can get. Might be worth adding some indicator of how many levels there are?

Bardolf's Curse by mrjoshuamclean 2018-09-03T19:39:58Z

It's insane that one person can achieve this in 48 hours... I'm quite busy right now, but have bookmarked the jam version and will play through once I can. Amazing work and as others have already said - it's great to see IF in these competitions and this is definitely the best I've seen. Probably not the biggest element in any game, but a big good work on the documentation.

Zecury by fingamer 2018-08-16T19:55:52Z

Great work! I, for one, liked the graphics very much. For a second the story combined with the graphics were very reminiscent of Dune (read it!). Big respect to my boy for building a grave stone for his fallen idol while his life is in danger. Thanks for the experience, @fingamer.

The Swarm by Wahooney 2018-08-20T21:59:40Z

10/10, would run around in circles hoping for an ammo drop that won't ever come while a bunch of aliens are chasing me as I stumble into their acidic blood again. Great work on the visuals - simple yet very nice. Same for the audio. It was fun to play and is a good format for a jam game.

You Are God by goudagames 2018-08-23T23:29:00Z

definitely one of the best games I've seen this compo. I'm amazed you achieved all this in such a short amount of time. I can come up with 0 negatives.. Good art, fitting sfx, targeted theme & most importantly - very fun to play. Awesome work!

Bug Squasher by erikiene 2018-08-17T00:48:43Z

@thunderawesome - touchĂŠ! I now realise I wasn't in a position to critique your game as hard  Great work btw - you're now the user highscore holder!

@balance686 - sorry about the exception! I now realise I shouldn't have disabled a thing during building.. Will fix asap, thank you for bringing it to our attention and thank you also for the kind comments!

Bug Squasher by erikiene 2018-08-19T08:58:49Z

Oh wow! thank you all very much for playing the game and giving feedback! Funny to see how some people think we did good on the theme aspect, some don't. I wonder if it's not too clear we mean the bugs are running (moving rapidly) out of the space key?... Or maybe it's not as clever as we hoped and people just think it's silly :D either way, thank you for telling us whichever way you think

@jlv - I wish it was bug free.. But I am happy you didn't encounter (or notice) any! Thanks for the kind comments, I think you definitely appeased @mackandrius , our audio man. Regarding the cons - adapting the game to more varied keyboards is in the pipeline as is also making it restart properly, not to the beginning of the splash.

@tymus - thank you for playing! there are 10 waves and thanks to your comment I realise we haven't made it clear, so thank you for pointing that ou, i'll try and adjust the description.

@peringo - damn, I wish I knew how to write such well constructed critique/praise in one comment! Regarding the theme - when they announced it on twitter, Mike attached a pic of a cluttered warehouse so it was obvious most games will deal with resource (space) management. We thought it'd be cool to "think outside the box" so interpreted space as the space key.

@eduardo-yukio - I think you had attached an image, but I can't see it anymore.. Any chance you remember your score? I can't add you as the champion without it:/

@joe-sycalik - as with others - thank you for playing and giving feedback. Just out of interest - was it clear to you that the bugs are literally running out of the space key (hence fitting the theme in our opinion)? I'm not justifying our theme interpretation if you think it's not that great, rather I'm trying to understand if maybe we haven't communicated it well.

Bug Squasher by erikiene 2018-08-19T17:58:17Z

@eduardo-yukio - we are humbled that you would replay the game! Thank you, Eduardo, and it is no surprise you are the new highscore holder (now official as per the description) and hence gain the title of Bug Squashing King :crown:

Bug Squasher by erikiene 2018-08-21T12:49:20Z

@gonzalol @doubleblackstudios - thank you for playing and the positive comments! :bow_tone1:

@maksime - daaaaaamn, no idea how that's not something we thought about... Thank you for bringing it to our attention! Not sure if we'll be able to do anything about it, but we'll try. And thank you for the kind feedback :v_tone1:

@drums - thank youu! Rarely do we see comments that say something good about the coding directly, so very heart warming to hear that.

@wahooney - I was about to say you might have discovered some hidden level of which none of the devs are aware  Thanks for playing! We hope challenging is good in this case.

Bug Squasher by erikiene 2018-08-21T12:49:20Z

... [why no way of deleting an accidental comment?:(]

Bug Squasher by erikiene 2018-08-22T23:16:34Z

@figjig - and we won't be stopping you from doing so! Thank you for playing (in the past and possibly in the future?)

@roman-petrov @furiouswitch - we were hoping the controls/goal would be fairly intuitive, but as evident from your comments - they are not. We will try and add some sort of instructions soon. Thank you for pointing this out! And also for playing the game and taking your time to give us feedback.

@furiouswitch - that is a very interesting suggestion about a prospect of an educational experience. I've noted that down and the team will discuss if there's any way we can make this an educational game/device. thank you for the suggestion!

@cr0w - you might not have expected this when you posted your score, but congratulations, you are the new highscore holder!!! :trophy: The recently released bug fix meant getting a higher score has become harder (as it should have been from the start), so unfortunately for the previous title holder the highscore has been reset (sorry @eduardo-yukio! I invite you to try and reclaim your belt if you're not yet sick of the game ), and you, cr0w, are the new heavyweight bugsquishing champion of the woooooorld!

@ratherjolly a big thank you for playing and taking the time to comment. Such comments as "enjoyed smashing bugs" mean so much to us as they let us know we did something right to make the gameplay "feel" somewhat good.

@goudagames - yep.. and I'm personally very sorry for that. We realised that key is different on some keyboards a little too late and I unfortunately didn't find the time to code in a handler for all the possibilities. Fixing this is on top of the priority list, so hopefully we can take care of it soon. I thank you for playing the game, rating and pointing that fault out. You guys help us in improving not only this game, but our general line of thinking and processes.

Bug Squasher by erikiene 2018-08-25T22:31:00Z

A new challenger appears!....no...wait....it's........it's @eduardo-yukio!!! :scream: He's back to reclaim his title and I'm sorry @cr0w, but this guy is on another level by now. That is impressive, man. I haven't reached that score myself, but will make it a mission to do so. I want to see someone beat your score so that you come back and be all like "fools, this isn't even my final form" and get a score that's not even mathematically possible :fire:

@yetman - thank you for playing and the positive feedback! The finger breaker mechanic was added wayyy too late in the development and I'm scared to think how lame the game would be without it.. I'm glad we managed to add it on time.

Blowup by Gildar76 2018-09-03T19:16:06Z

Nice entry! The only problem I think is the fact that the platforms wayyy too slow to be able to get the ball if it's travelling to the other side. But maybe that's a design choice! Good work, enjoyed the audio most

Golden Shackles by FuriousWitch 2018-08-21T23:33:57Z

Very nice entry! I like the graphics and know that the game would be even more captivating if some audio was added.

I found a bug on my first play - you can buy the 700$ update without having the money for it at any time, so I won my second playthrough by just selling 1 piece of jewelry.

Other than that - all the people above have already given good suggestions on how to make the game more fun to play, so all I will say is -great work!

Cutting Edge: Screensaver by kazuo256 2018-08-20T22:43:44Z

Genius idea!! I've never seen shrinking of the actual game window as a mechanic before. Joining that with the story and the slashing of walls mechanic - amazing work guys, highest rating I've given for innovation yet. Also, the zoom-in and slash is a great touch :ok_hand_tone1:

Slime Escape by Dom Harris 2018-08-22T00:08:44Z

I'll start with the only negative - as with the above comment, I too was more and more annoyed by the jump sfx.

Now for the good stuff - amazing graphics, this is something that you would expect from a team of experienced devs who worked on the game for at least 3 months, not 3 days! I definitely enjoyed it being challenging. The only thing that left me sad was not finding hidden areas or easter eggs or something in places that look like they should contain such things due to being unnecessary and hard to get to (e.g. start of game, see screencap below). Great work, man! 2018-08-22 01_07_26-Clipboard.png

Metal Gear Noah by Dizzy Dalvin 2018-08-27T22:50:02Z

Very cool idea! Completed the post-jam game, nevermind how long that took, it's so good! gets a bit laborious by the end since you can just spam spawn loads of them without any negatives, but still, kept me entertained throughout. I did have to rate the jam version though, but the post-jam is one of the best games i've seen in this past week, great work, people!

EDIT: where are the MGS references???:(

EDIT2: forgot my single small maybe possibly helpful suggestion- since a lot of the late game involves re-programming or programming robots and they themselves move around, the player camera lerping slightly in front of the movement vector sometimes makes it annoyingly hard to do the things you want to do. If this was not intentional (the annoyingness), you might want to consider removing the cam shift or reducing it some, unless it strongly impacts on the feel

Baby Boom Balance by DevEmil 2018-08-20T21:31:07Z

Pretty cool game! As other comments have already pointed out, it could do with a bit of polish in terms of making all functionality work (tax slider not functioning?) and maybe a little more intuitive feedback system to let the player know why the game ended when it ended. Other than that - really dig the visuals, the audio fit the setting and a great take on the theme. Good work, people!

Populists Land Use Simulator by JulianMH 2018-08-21T23:41:54Z

Really cool idea! As for others - took me a minute to realise clicking on the newspaper actions a build. Other than that - amazing execution! Can't imagine what graphics would fit this game better, the audio did its job well, my game wasn't obstructed by any bugs and it introduced an interesting challenge that kept me captivated (until i lost). Good work!

Thug Slugs by thunderawesome 2018-08-16T17:05:05Z

Genius concept - using salt as bullets in a slugs vs snails world! Loved the animations of the beasts, it'd be interesting to find out how you create those (I don't work with voxels, but know rigging doesn't work). I don't know if it's just me, but might be worth reducing the opponent's health or increasing the player's damage as I found it takes me a while to kill someone and then once I do I'm pretty much dead myself. Great entry!

CapyBarbra: A New Brow by Ratherjolly 2018-08-22T00:00:47Z

Very much agree with others - amazing work on the opening sequence! Good humor, cute capybarbra (or is it capybrabra..? (hoping for some flight of the conchords fans around here)) and a very solid entry for the jam.

Frosty Fort Fight - [FFF] by AwesomeAlliterationAlliance 2018-08-20T21:42:23Z

Very solid entry! Fits theme, audio & graphics are great. I really enjoyed the main menu (the UI and transitions). Also, absolutely obliterated the penguin.

Space Raze by Inworks 2018-08-20T21:52:09Z

Superb entry! Enjoyed every aspect of it. It was fun to play, pleasant to look at and the audio kept up the intensity of it all. As others have noted - decoupling the turret controls from the ship controls might be worth looking into, unless you already tried and this was better. In any case - awesome work!

SuperTHICC by huskitch 2018-08-27T23:02:28Z

Nice visuals and good replication of the superhot mechanic! of course thicc>=hot, so this is better by default. As others have already outlined below, the controls are weirdly off. Other than that - nice entry, would attempt defending myself with a paper cup again.

Personal Space by ProdigalSon 2018-08-20T22:21:43Z

Great entry! Might be worth adding some sort of power ups or something to liven up the game after a few levels, but for a jam game this is amazing. Also, might want to throw in a rick and morty reference to 100x your players & comments (seeing as how you've already set it up in your title - personal space)

Claude Van Clamme Presents: Agent Poing P.N.Guin's Terrible Penguin Panic by The Enigma 2018-08-16T16:36:19Z

Great backstory! Fun game, as the person above - got stuck a few times. Highscore of 3200 @78m. If that is your custom made splash screen logo, please don't take it away so quick next time, had to reload and capture to be able to check it out. Here it is for those who won't bother to: 2018-08-16 17_27_56-Claude Van Clamme Presents_ Agent Poing P.N.Guin's Terrible Penguin Panic - Ice .png Great work, people!

I won!... I think? (ran out of space:) 2018-09-03 20_00_55-Clipboard.png

Great work! To make a game that's truly interesting to play with just a few elements comprising the gameplay is definitely a feat, i bow my head to you sirs. The look and feel is great. I thought the audio wouldn't be great when the game started but as I continued playing realised it's perfect for what the game is. Thank you for this experience and please continue moving in such direction, I love these types of games.

Cubed In by Wabble 2018-08-21T23:53:06Z

Great level design! I'm not sure whether the pipes that spawn moving blocks were meant to obstruct my way somehow, because I could simply walk through the block (would be inside them if I and the block moved to the same square).

Experience would definitely be enhanced with some audio, but it is already quite engaging as it is. As someone already said - very impressed with the amount of different elements added to the puzzles! Definitely worth continuing development. Awesome work!

Inventory Heroes by Gonzalol 2018-08-20T22:33:19Z

A Balance686 said, I was really hoping I could strategically use that potion or scroll, it would definitely help in it seeming like I have some control over the game. Sorry if I just missed it and that's already possible! Besides that, really nice art!

TOROID by Yetman 2018-08-23T00:46:04Z

Crazy this was made within 72 hrs... amazing work! Very unique idea and despite things missing or not working perfectly (as expected for a jam game), very good execution. The visuals in both 2D and 3D are top notch. I agree with the comment above regarding the shape of the fuel pickups, my first instinct was to avoid those. Finally, you might know this already, but Keijiro (creator of the sky shader you used) is a legend. Follow him on github, twitter and anywhere else you can find him. He's created so many great utilities in Unity and it's just cool watching what he's working on.

Spacebars by The Triumvirate 2018-08-16T17:14:04Z

Heh, good to see we're not the only ones interpreting the theme this way! Amazing work! Love how the environment buttons press down when you press them. Also, how frustrating the game is!(which is a good thing for a platformer sometimes, definitely is for me). That ceiling on the 3rd level... Awesome job, keep at it :thumbsup_tone1:

Junk Rover by Max S. 2018-08-16T16:57:16Z

One of the few games where I see why there's a "mood" category! Very nice submission. I only skimmed through the controls, so when I found I can turn my camera by dragging myself against the base, I was coming here to gloat about my findings but then noticed you can just turn the camera so it's nothing special :( As already discussed - the quality-performance balance is a hard one to keep and while scrolling through the land I could see the different LODs popping in and out while at the same time my laptop started breathing quite heavily. Didn't really impact the experience - cool game!

Zero Star by CristiHKJ 2018-08-21T21:49:56Z

As others have already said - great start and it could be something really awesome if you continue on with it. The only problem I had with gameplay was the fact that I didn't dodge any of the incoming missiles and just kept my finger on the space bar and won. Seemed a little too easy but maybe I got lucky somehow.. In any case - nice entry!

Beater by Velocity7 2018-08-23T01:02:47Z

Pretty cool submission! While I'm sure people would love to discuss whether this is a game or not, I am just pleasantly surprised and refreshed by something different. The visual stimulation feels very nice. Would I be correct in assuming you used Keijiro's "Reaktion" or maybe the Koreographer asset to achieve those animations or did you code the entire thing yourself?

Beater by Velocity7 2018-08-23T08:01:53Z

@velocity7 - damn, sorry I missed that in the description. It's awesome! 4th track pitched down - muy bien. I have no idea how this would be coded in the first place, but I'm sure it's a big effort, so great work on doing it on such a short timespan.

Screen Space Defender by Balance686 2018-08-16T20:59:22Z

Nice flow of the game (feels right, not sure how to explain) and also the music!

Weltraum by JLV 2018-08-21T22:49:02Z

That was unique and as such - awesome! I really didn't expect such an entry and it left me pleasantly surprised. The voice acting is very much on point and combined with the story is what captivated me and made sure I complete the game (yes, i said it!). Would love to see what you guys do in the future (a.k.a. time to self-promote with a website or twitter account or something)

No Space In My Stomach by Roman Petrov 2018-08-21T22:59:22Z

Solid entry! The main mechanic + use of toilet I think is very well thought out and implemented. The only problem for me is the fact that (unless i'm missing something) there's no way to know which pill will destroy which platform and that just leads to unnecessary replays of a level not because the puzzle was too hard but because there was no obvious cause-effect link between pill and platform (apart from colour). Other than that - amazing work! Loved the audio effect for when the snail's too full and you try ingesting one more pill.

Cluttered Mind by HAUO 2018-08-17T01:05:56Z

Amazing art and audio! Please bless us with a link to your twitter or wherever you share your art with the world!

Running out of Space by ZozeR 2018-08-25T21:59:45Z

Nice work! In my world hard is good. Really cool implementation of running out of space. As others - i found it unnecessarily annoying that a lot of the planet spawning happened in front of a shot, but that's really the only negative. Oh and i like the outside space shader!

Super Square Dodge XLII by DoubleBlackStudios 2018-08-20T22:13:47Z

Extremely fun game!! It's so good, even failing is fun (really liked the audio, especially when I was wrecked by scraping against one of the long running fat beams). Visuals fit perfectly to the type of game it is and the soundtrack definitely did its job. Really cool entry, thank you for the experience!

Oh No ! More Food : A Vegan Story by Maksime 2018-08-20T22:28:10Z

Yuss! While I had to stop due to needing sleep before work tomorrow, I've bookmarked the game to come back and play to the end as I really want to see how big my boy here can get. The nomnom sound is very on point. Great fun, good work guys!

DarkSide by guxiang 2018-08-25T22:06:05Z

cool idea, good execution. As others have stated above - the movement needs so tweaking, since sometimes it takes wayyy too long to react. Other than that - good work! the game is challenging, the graphics and audio are fitting, especially considering one person made them in 2 days.

Anstorm by ShivArt 2018-08-16T16:18:28Z

It's all been said above, but still - great art! Very much enjoyed the ground shifting mechanics and how it was implemented (i.e. not shrinking linearly). Amazing work for a one man band!

My first Ludum dare - Astro Swing by michelle 2018-08-27T14:21:02Z

Hey, nice work for a first compo entry! I think a lot of the feedback above is very good and have said the main things. I haven't read all of them, so hope I'm not repeating anything, but apart from the rope-related tweaks, I would suggest removing or doing something different with the sliding of the player, i'm not really sure what it adds and it did unnecessarily kill me a few times. Otherwise, the graphics and audio are very nice, even more so considering this was done in 48hrs AND the mechanics were coded in. Good work!

(just a tip regarding the itch.io page - I think the website generates download links to individual clicks, so the link you currently give doesn't really work. Change it to https://miiparty.itch.io/astro-swing and people can click "download")

Exhaustion by Koala Squad 2018-08-16T16:49:03Z

Quite an addictive game! I was (appropriately) killed by what looked like the grim reaper. Loved the graphics, the audio, the gameplay and for some reason the fact that the game just turns itself off after you die. Not entirely sure why you chose to publish a development build, those tend to be more mbs than a normal build. Also, since you're using unity - why not publish to webgl? Makes it a lot more accessible and with such a cool game i think you want to expand your audience as much as possible. Awesome work!

Exhaustion by Koala Squad 2018-08-16T18:55:45Z

@koala-squad, sorry if i'm misunderstanding either you or [the rules](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules), but i think they specifically say porting is allowed after the deadline: > Porting (especially to Web or Windows) can happen after the initial 48 hours. The longer you wait though, the less time participants will have to play your game.

So I'd say if you only have the time and the motivation - build to webgl now :thumbsup_tone1:

Memory Leak by cr0w 2018-08-25T22:23:57Z

Damn.. that end screen. 10/10, would mood again. Amazing work and what's scary is that this was done for a compo.. Crazy nice graphics, fitting audio (only disliked the rough-on-ears landing sound), very good idea in terms of theme use and finally a very important message at the end. I would say how it's worth developing this further and if you do maybe make the choices matter more as now I just ended up choosing the "feels important" like 50 times without any consequence, but all of it has been said above. The only thing I'd add is the final jump is annoyingly too hard, but maybe it's just my bad platforming.. I'll say it again - **amazing** work! :thumbsup_tone1:

DataSkream by Sollara Games 2018-09-03T19:37:09Z

such polish, great work people! Feels almost ready to release to market. Audio and visuals flawless. The procgen of the platforms probably needs some work since at times surviving a spawn is wayyy too hard. Otherwise, one of the best entries i've seen this jam. Very sad webgl doesn't do networking, i reached a significant score :( But that's not on you obviously!

The Big Crunch by psjuk0 2018-08-27T14:10:47Z

Awesome game! It's crazy that you thought of and then implemented this idea in just 48 hours.. While the shrinking is slow, it's just the right speed to keep the intensity going. I feel like I didn't take a breath until after I lost. Great work.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Stuck In Paris by CocaPasteque 2020-10-13T18:54:47Z

First game in this jam to take me into "the zone"! I was fully concentrated on not colliding and getting out of that cursed roundabout. Thank you for that experience, it was super fun. Which caught me by surprise with how seemingly simplistic this looks at first sight. Oh and the audio does its job so so well. Good work y'all!

COLORSPACE by Thought Reactor 2020-10-11T15:54:11Z

Love the aesthetics of this! I hope you take it further with new levels as I'm sure the possibilities are limitless and it could become a very interesting game.

One easy and quick win I would suggest is perhaps adding a running function (e.g. holding shift) as there doesn't seem to be a reason for having the player traverse the environment too slowly.

WireTap by Dingbat 2020-10-11T16:05:47Z

Best puzzle game I've played this jam I think. Knowing how much effort level design can take, I am quite impressed! Controls feel smooth, the audio does its job very well. Good job!

Twist Turn Shoot Burn by gamepopper 2020-10-09T22:10:40Z

Very solid experience! I liked the style and the difficulty of the game. If I were to add something as a patch, I would probably make it apparent when the enemy is about to jump as otherwise the player is left frustrated from a seemingly random death. Or that might already be in there and I'm just missing it :D thanks for the experience!

@toulou @don-tnowe @tipyx @vphyre - thank you all for the kind words!

@don-tnowe - funny you say that, we mentioned The Witness a few times during development! We'll try and launch a twitter page in the coming week or two so that anyone interested can follow for further developments as we do intend to push on with this project. Will notify you one that's ready (whether you want it or not :) )

@tipyx - yeah, we had better ideas for lighting but good old time ran out.. :D hence the addition of a flashlight, which I recognise is not the best solution but hopefully works somewhat. We've got sorting the lights out in the pipeline.

@vphyre - "allow you"?! We love the feedback! We were thinking something like "press h for hint" to give hints in each room when a player needs them, but a tutorial might be an alternative solution.

Stuck in a Loop (station) by erikiene 2020-10-09T09:56:53Z

@unhandyred - sorry about that! We didn't have a mac available for testing and couldn't figure out that the mac build was not working until recently.. I will look into solving it, but suspect it's due to a 3rd party audio engine and so might be slightly difficult. Though will try my hardest! (And let you know if solved)

@jogy34 - well, as per the theme, you are *stuck* in a loop! But yeah, lazy excuses aside - we aim to put that functionality in soon and until then hopefully alt+f4 does the trick as per my teammate above. Thank you for playing! ;)

Stuck in a Loop (station) by erikiene 2020-10-11T21:38:30Z

@somogy @cargamoni @blue-pin-studio @lucbarr @pedrocoden @zacharieg @aflatthrasher @commanderstitch - thank you all for giving our experience a spin and for taking the time to rate it and even comment!

@blue-pin-studio - yeah, we recognise we're introducing some random concepts out of nowhere without really easing the player into them and so will aim to fix that with.. (drumroll).... **more rooms**! in our post-jam releases. And yeah, a pause menu is something we should probably give some focus to creating

@lucbarr - that's a very good suggestion! we had it in our minds that we need to solve the colour blind friendliness of this game, but didn't yet know how. Shapes might be the answer. If we apply such a solution soon, I will be sure to notify you!

@zacharieg - y-....you....... might be the first player to have completed all the rooms! (at least going by the comments) congratulations! Thank you for the kind words! Humbled by the winning though and definitely by being likened to (although far from the quality of) The Witness

@aflatthrasher - you have no idea how the puzzle-building parts of our brains are relieved to hear such words coming from a player! (regarding the nature of puzzle games). And hell yeah we're continuing! I invite you to follow our [spanking-new twitter page](https://twitter.com/UnvrsllyAbsrd) (despite its lack of content) where we will try and inform people on updates to this experience and any future developments.

@commanderstitch - damn. We are honoured by you thinking of some fairly advanced ways of solving the rooms, while in reality we wouldn't have been able to think of such puzzles in the first place! Room 3 is in fact simpler than that, but we do recognise it's causing friction for many players and are therefore trying to work out ways of making it less confusing and more pleasing, while still keeping it more difficult than rooms 1&2. As I am a big fan of the comment you left, I offer you and others reading this reply an exclusive (which might go out of date if we apply a patch..) - the word above the door offers several clues. One contextual (via the meaning of the word) and one more direct (via the parts of the word).

Stuck in a Loop (station) by erikiene 2020-10-12T18:15:45Z

Hey @tuatarian! First and foremost - thanks for pointing that out. Our reading of the rules (specifically the allowance of bug fixes and **not** new features) was that while we don't change the puzzle itself, it would be ok to alter the hints (mind- static hints, not some intricate mechanics) that help the player proceed. You suggest that view might be wrong and we acknowledge it. But at the same time, I would argue we have not changed any mechanics or features of the game and kept each puzzle as it was, but in altering the hint provided, we allowed more players to progress through something that was an uneccesary friction point. The fact that more players are now able (probably) to progress beyond room 3 doesn't really make the game better as the game is the same as it was. If our game contained a bug that led to a particular door not opening when it should, us fixing that would be of the same importance, scale and eventual effect as what we did.

Above all I agree with your sentiment that living with mistakes is part of the gamejam experience! We are living with the classic mistake of overscoping, bad UI, very poor difficulty scaling and a long long list of more such mistakes.

I think your point about motivation is a very interesting one. Our needs for motivation in games likely differ, but that's not to say I don't understand your point. In our minds the main motivators in this experience are 1) the same as any escape room's (i.e. escaping) and 2) seeing yourself create a groovy track as you progress through the rooms. I fully get not all people dig such motivators and appreciate your comment because it will make us think more about this for future developments.

Finally - huge respect for being able to write a critical comment and at the same time point out what you did like.

Purgatory is a Music Store by MattWoelk 2020-10-13T19:06:50Z

Yes, yes, many times yes! Despite being a jam game it was able to bring positive emotions and a very nice relaxing mood with it. Amazing job, folks! The visuals, the storytelling, the atmosphere, the charecters, it all binds so well to create one of the better experiences I've seen in this jam. And naturally +1 for an audio-centric game of course!

BØNE LOOP by Disco_Pope 2020-10-11T16:38:08Z

Very cool visuals and audio too! And I very much agree with the above comments on the main menu - so simple yet so eye-catching.

What feels like a potential quick win in terms of fixes might be making it so that the mages can't shoot through walls as that feels slightly unfair given that you might not even know there are mages there in the first place.

Nice entry!

Lights Out on Pluto by cad 2020-10-08T22:07:03Z

Agree with most sentiments above - it did what I think it aimed to and creeped me the hell out. That's a hard thing to achieve even with enough time and budget, so quite impressive given the limitation of at least one of those! Great work. The only immediate improvements that would come to my mind would be to 1) make it so that the weapon aim follows the cursor (while running is handled as it is) and 2) make the flamethrower ammo use up smoother as it confused me at first how it wasn't shooting while holding mouse down but rather in increments post click (or i bugged the game out somehow:D).

Oh and LOVED the win/lose animations/cutscenes. Very nice style.

Time Crash by Gonzalol 2020-10-09T22:21:25Z

As per others' comments - this would probably work really well as a mobile game in some markets! Good work on the visuals

Stuck In A Loop by Zelif 2020-10-11T15:44:03Z

The camera seems to be getting mixed reviews, but I'm on the liking it side. I think the camera movements were smooth and it was well place, despite the hiding of the models sometimes not working as expected. As you yourselves said - this could become quite fun and interesting if you plan on adding more tasks to complete.

Cereal Killer by Shelvid 2020-10-09T22:19:55Z

My most well-rated game this jam. Awesome everything really - great humor, love the audio, the mood (the latter two give me of Hotline Miami vibes and in my book that's a huge compliment, love that game). Keep on applying your brilliant minds this way!

Start The Game (Together) by Raivk 2020-10-08T11:47:59Z

Just started my rating spree and boy oh boy are other games unlucky as this just set the bar quite high. I liked the clean visual style, the punchy soundtrack and of course the concept. The minigames are a nice touch to add to the "fun" part of it.

Needing to force-quit the game is a nice touch.

Goop Loop by jitspoe 2020-10-20T22:22:27Z

Going in I had no idea this was going to be the most fun game I played this jam. Thank you for this experience! (being honest here) I'd love to play more of it, so do let us know if you intend to release any more updates with levels in the future :open_mouth: Reminded me of Elasto Mania (due to nostalgia on my part, that's a big big compliment btw. If you don't know the game - check it out).

Oh and the audio cues were effective and placed really well.

CREATION EXCAVATION by taffyko 2020-10-25T14:17:45Z

Cool mechanics that are made even better by the effective use of sound! The visuals are appealing, perhaps the only thing I'd improve on that side is making the cursor somehow more obvious as it's already hard to destroy enough tiles when traversing sideways, but then you find yourself unaware of where your cursor is due to the effects. As with other comments, I found that the game would have been even better if it had some more obvious direction to it, instead of leaving the player to randomly seek out objects (apart from some obvious pointers for a few of them). It has great potential i'd say, good work! Hope you get the 20 ratings needed.

AUTOLOOP by Kpedatte 2020-10-09T22:28:29Z

Caught me and didn't let go for quite a few minutes  Nice job! Dig the aesthetics and the audio work. I found it hard to see much further than my immediate view, so couldn't really plan collection of powerups (nor did i notice them for a significant while), perhaps there's something to be done with the camera angle? Or maybe making collectibles pop more?

Splines 'n Shapes by SharkWithLasers 2020-10-23T20:29:05Z

Very smooth! As other said before me - the sounds make this so so pleasant to play. I love how something so seemingly simple can be so complete and it seems adding any more "sophisticated" graphics would probably ruin the experience. Great entry. Oh and not sure if that's the way you're meant to do it, but I liked the fact the player was forced to use movement on further levels rather than just statically place points in the right places.

Divine Drifter by Enzar17 2020-10-23T20:34:05Z

Nice job! I like the mood, especially since it reminds me of one of my favourite itch.io games I often come back to when i need to clear my mind - Tanuki Sunset (check it out, i'm certain you'll appreciate it as it's super similar in style to your game).

One thing I'd work on further is making the drifting somehow more controled and, well, drifty. Currently it just felt like it changes the state of movement (faster mostly) and then you can control yourself same as usual more or less.

Looped Chaos by KDgame 2020-10-09T22:01:35Z

Good balance of the hitbox being hard enough to cause rage (the good kind!) but not too hard to make it annoying. Well packaged jam game!

Runaway Railcar by Michael Horst 2020-10-11T15:23:51Z

As per above comments - connecting the action audio with the soundtrack would take this to a whole nother level! Very smooth experience, the camera is handled very well I think. And it might just be me but the "success" prompt is reminiscent of the MGS alert sound (which adds respect points in my book). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yGfQak-q9M

Re-Slash by Croxel Studios 2020-10-09T22:12:51Z

Not much to add to what's been said (nor any suggestions for improvement) - the idea is awesome, it is well executed (especially given the time) and I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Nailed it by Krg 2020-10-11T16:26:41Z

Needs a lot more polish, but it definitely has potential to become an interesting puzzle game. I think @ms-annotation-x did an amazing job on feedback and covered most (and more) of what I would have said (everyone heart their comment, definitely deserves it). The only thing I would add is that the player grounded (i.e. whether able to jump) detection could be slightly improved as I found myself not able to jump several times despite being on top of an object, likely due to its width.

Prestige by Tedbuke 2020-10-11T15:33:23Z

Like the direction of this! The hints were a bit too straigthforward and so it didn't feel much like a puzzle to solve. I'm a big fan of how the item inspection works (ala old Resident Evils), but would suggest making it possible to right-click at any point, without forcing the player to look at it for seconds as that can get annoying. Needs so further work to engage with the player more, but a good start nonetheless!

Oh and unfortunately the game crashed for me when I clicked on the pc in the 2nd room (after seeing '???' on the overlay), sorry I don't have more insight into why to help you fix it.

Maintain by rafatic 2020-10-11T16:33:06Z

Poor Yellow never stood a chance against Silver.. If taken a bit further to reduce the glitchiness of the robots (mine went insane despite the lack of red objects), I can see how this could be a fun, challenging game, perhaps best served on a mobile device due to the need for many speedy clicks.

That Dream Again by Bokonon 2020-10-23T20:24:36Z

This stirred emotions within.. The track that starts after you collect all the chimes. Damn, this is cool. 11/10 on mood. Amazing achievement on the mechanics side i'd say, the visuals and audio drew me in and then the mechanics made me stay all through the ride. Very very honestly - I loved this.

The only change I'd try to make (though not sure how) is make the player aware of how far their hook can go. Probably not all the time (as that'd be too easy), but maybe every time they fail they can see the hook go out and not reach the target.

[while'd] by Celuloide 2020-10-20T22:12:21Z

Nicely polished game! I very much liked the aesthetics of it, the visuals and the audio worked well together. The idea is not something i've seen before, so that was nice as well! Others already mentioned the same pain points I encountered - the unskippable intro on each level and the fact that upon death it restarts to the first set of the current level, rather than whatever you were on. Great submission!

Space Drummer by Guilloteam 2020-10-13T18:43:38Z

Nicely polished experience! The concept of different instrument = different shot type scores high on my innovation list :metal:

The only thing I would suggest as an improvement would be to allow players to change their beats (aka strategy) at least after each stage, perhaps even more frequently.

Almost shameless plug - check out [our experience](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/stuck-in-a-loop-station), you might find you like it. While the beats are not so woven into the core mechanics of the game, it is similar in some aspects!

Smells Like Chlorine by TheGreenWorm 2020-10-24T13:19:05Z

I think this is #1 on my narrative-driven games list this jam. Impactful story-telling together with well-combined visual and audio style made for a very enjoyable experience.

Firstly - tagging all of the folks who couldn't rate the game because we dun goofed and by accident toggled the opt out. If you'd like to rate it now - please do :star2:

Then, most importantly - thank you all for taking the time to play our game and writing up a comment (or many!). I think this is what we all are here for - see folks play our games, enjoy or hate them, and articulate constructive feedback so that we can add to our understand of what a good game means to people. The team loved reading all of these, so again - thank you
