LD35 — Shapeshift

Mixle by stoo 2016-04-18T14:30:00

I really like the puzzles. It seems like this would be a great mobile game. The sounds were good too. The only thing that bothered me was that the moves counted on clicks I think so a misclick would result in more moves. Great job!

DRACUL64 by josefnpat 2016-04-23T02:01:00

Cool idea and props on multiplayer integration. I can see this was inspired by Doom, and I think the art was pretty cool.

Shape Lab by Xilentor 2016-04-23T20:05:00

I think the mechanics are great, as well as the level design! It's nice that all the puzzles are different and add different mechanics like the boxes instead of just keeping it the same. Well done!

Shapeshifting Toys by barkergames 2016-04-27T02:36:00

Pretty cool! Graphics were good and you had some great music choice. The level design was really good for 3 days too.

Shapeless Island by tanjent 2016-04-25T21:30:00

The mechanics were new and kind of cool! It felt a little weird once you are attacked by the turret, but with a little balancing I think it would be great. Great pixel graphics, too.

Fast Food Run by BigHairBen 2016-04-25T00:29:00

Love the art, especially the cool 3d parallaxing effect in the background. I thought the sound was interesting, but maybe a bit bugged. Funny concept too :)

Johnicholas's LD35 Entry by Johnicholas 2016-04-20T21:30:00

I was a little confused but I think it's a cool concept and is very challenging. Good level design.

Slide and Match by Rialgar 2016-04-20T21:49:00

I like the animations and well done on making 14 levels. Sound would have been nice and I think the W key doesn't work

Flock! by frondeus 2016-04-20T21:38:00

I like the art style and your idea. The control did feel a little off and I was a little confused about the obstacles

Theseus by TheMeorch 2016-04-23T01:47:00

The level design is incredible! I got stuck on 11, but the concept that you add on each level is brilliant, and I commend you for making over 20 levels like that. The gameplay is very fun and challenging, too, and ultimately has a great feel. Great job!

Dice Delve by lanestp 2016-04-24T04:38:00

It is a very interesting and cool idea! I like how you combined maze elements and Stratego like combat elements into one, and it's very fun. The art and animation is great too!

The Lab by MayMakeGame 2016-04-22T02:19:00

Well done! I like the story and music, almost reminds me of Hotline Miami with that kind of creepy mysterious vibe. Great start, and keep on going!

Wax by Squid 2016-04-22T02:48:00

Your idea/theme is brilliant! It reminds me of the game sandman, and I really enjoy both! Movement sometimes felt a little weird/laggy, but very well done!

Pufferfish: The Game Not The Fish by HunGARE 2016-04-22T02:38:00

@Thepattybeast Hold space to puff up

Triplets Team by davalcordub 2016-04-23T01:56:00

It was making me open it with gamemaker not as an export. Can you make an exported version without needing to dowload gamemaker? Idk if you can.

Shifty Seamus by BlennosoftGames 2016-04-23T01:31:00

Yay I won! The core mechanics are great, and requires a fair amount of thinking an problem solving. It's nice that you included a fair amount of levels too. I also like Seamus :)

Plato and the 'Caves by qu2 2016-04-22T02:15:00

Love the idea! Great mechanics with the class shifting, and I thought the AI was very well done. Wasn't quite sure with the movement, but well done none the less.

Magic Forest by Frederika and Patrick 2016-04-27T02:40:00

I like your take on the theme. The dragon idea and the model were pretty cool. I would have liked for the models to look similar, but still it looked cool.

Re-imagined Memory: A Zeus Your Own Adventure by CoolGhosts 2016-04-25T21:26:00

Lol it was pretty funny I'll give you that. Lots of options too which was nice.

DEAD ALE by blackoptics8 2016-04-22T02:25:00

I find it very interesting, and I love the graphics. The menus are great too. There is also a weird thing if you press enter it resets the music so it replays multiples of the same song, don't know if that was intentionally or not for a replay feature. Good job!

Shifty Shapes by MudFarmers 2016-04-22T02:34:00

I really love the particle effects and the sound! You also did a good job on the level progression. I really felt it become more challenging, especially once I got to the stars. Would have liked to seen a different font, but still great work!

Zedhus by GGAlliance 2016-04-22T02:29:00

Good job guys! The sound is the best part for me, and I really like the parallaxing effect you achieved with the stars.

Cool Shape-Shifting Monstrosity by featherdoodle 2016-04-22T02:37:00

The different abilities on the different shapes was really cool! The explosions looked cool, too :)

LD39 — Running out of Power

Betty Botz by recursor 2017-08-08T20:19:10Z

@recursor This is awesome!

I liked:

The Gameplay: This is a very interesting and fun game. It's a very creative take on the puzzle genre, and once I got to the third level where you have to move the platforms and the ramps I was very entertained.

The Sound: There wasn't any background music, but I do like the moving sound effects. It gives it that industrial robotic feel that helps set the tone.

I didn't like:

Lack of Polish: The game was a bit buggy with some texture glitches and a weird bug where my robot was spinning randomly at one point. I really like the tutorial wall, but the UI isn't too attractive. Also, I liked the idea of the money system, but it didn't seem to have a point.

Overall, this is a very solid entry. I honestly think you should touch it up and release a full version. It's very fun!

Neutron Escape by HitchH1k3r 2017-08-08T20:37:28Z

@hitchh1k3r I loved it!

I liked:

The Polish: Very, very polished. I didn't find any glitches and it played very nicely.

The Gameplay: It was fun too! I'm upset that it was short because I liked it. The difficulty was good too because although I failed a few times, I learned and moved on.

The Art: I liked the art too, especially the end part with the particles. It was simple but very pleasing to look at, and the animations were a nice touch.

I didn't like:

Lack of Sound: This is the only thing I didn't like. A simple background track would have been nice just so it's not complete silence. Although, I can't blame you since the rest of the game is so good.

I would be disappointed if you didn't get top 100 in at least one category. Well done!

Stranded In Space by MAT4DOR 2017-08-13T15:37:22Z

@mat4dor 10:34 lol

I liked:

The Graphics: You made several good looking low poly assets that made it look and feel like the moon. I could easily tell what each building represented. I would have liked to have seen a space skybox for the rocket launch, even if you only see it for a bit.

The Gameplay: It was a very fun game, reminding me of RTS games like Starcraft. It is layered enough that you can learn how to be the most efficient (how many solar panels, turrets, etc to place) and finish the fastest. I also like that you had an end objective.

I didn't like:

The Sound: The music was okay but I didn't really get that space vibe I would have liked. Also, I didn't like that lack of sound effects. I would have liked to have seen something for placing a building/turrets shooting.

Overall, great gameplay and great idea. Good luck!

Is Your Refrigerator Running? by urbanhelsing 2017-08-13T15:50:44Z

@maakep @urbanhelsing Probably the funniest game I have played this Ludum Dare!

I liked:

The Humor: It was hilarious. The backstory, the voice over, and I loved the quotes after you die. In fact, I did know refrigerators were on of the only objects that could float on top of clouds...for some reason.

The Gameplay: I liked that it was a challenging platformer. I re-tried a bunch because there were a lot of hard jumps and timings, but it was fun.

I didn't like:

The Art: Although I really enjoyed the game and thought the fridge model was good, the world and objects felt to plain. The clouds were just textured cubes and the skybox appeared to be the default Unity one. I would have liked to have seen something pop in the art.

Overall, very solid game. You will definitely place high in humor at least :) Good luck!

My E-Car by wilthord 2017-08-05T00:34:12Z

@wilthord I think it's pretty cool!

Things I liked:

The Gameplay: I found the game to be a very interesting take on "Running out of power", as it not only fit the theme well but the gameplay itself was fun. I enjoyed trying to trick the other cars with my speed, and moving last second to make them hit obstacles.

The Sound: The sound was pretty cool too. I really like that you made sound effects for wiping out, speeding up, cars destroying, etc. It made the game feel really receptive.

Things I didn't like:

The Art: I think most of the art itself is decent, but I don't think the sprites worked well together. They seemed all of a different art style, which made it not as appealing to look at. I think aswell that you should have made the road take up more of the screen. The entire bottom half is just grass which is pretty useless.

Overall, I think this is a great entry. Good luck!

Shadow Lurkers by nusan 2017-08-09T17:12:52Z

@nusan Really great idea!

I liked:

The Gameplay: I got this weird War of the Worlds Dark Harry Potter Dungeon vibe that I loved. I genuinely felt tense and a little scared when playing because of the gameplay. It is very hard to invoke this kind of emotion, especially in a game jam. Well done!

The Art: Your art may not have been the highest quality models, but the lighting, the creepy monsters, and the level design were great. I knew from the second I started that I did not want those monsters coming after me, and the art for the batteries and cranks made the goal self-explanatory.

I didn't like:

Lack of Music/Sound: The mood of the game was great as is, but if you added some ominous background music and sound effects for the flickering lights, the mood would have been perfect.

Overall, you made a fantastic scary game, and I think you will place well!

COAL by beta 2017-08-15T15:46:12Z

@beta "Coal" game!

I liked:

The Graphics: I really got that industrial sort of vibe from your art, and the lighting was very good as well. It also had a very cool style.

The Music: I thought the music was good too. It gave off a tense sort of vibe.

I didn't like:

The Controls: I felt like most of the time I was just flailing my mouse trying to hit the coal. I like the idea of shoveling up coal, but I would have liked to seen better controls. Maybe something like if you moving to the left, the shovel is left and you move your mouse up to throw it into the furnace.

Overall, great entry. Good luck!

RooP by Genpaku 2017-08-11T23:49:34Z

@genpaku Nice work!

I liked:

The Sound: The sound effects were nice, especially since you had a bunch of different ones for the sirens, engines, etc. It made it feel dynamic. I also liked that there was background music.

The Gameplay: I got a little Mario Kart/Heist 2 vibe from your game which I really liked. It's not so simple as moving the car up or down. You have to keep your power up, avoid obstacles, and try to get pickups to help. It was cool!

I didn't like:

The Art: Granted I'm not a 2D artist and probably wouldn't do great, but I didn't like some of the lower quality sprites (? Pickup) and the art as a whole didn't always seem to fit together (Cartoony cars with the neat looking battery). I would have liked to have seen a more consistent art theme.

Overall, I really like it. Good luck!

Power Rush by Mik3 2017-08-05T22:49:41Z

@mik3 Nice game! And lol I liked the ending.

Things I liked:

The Gameplay- I like a good FPM (First person miner). I found it pretty fun actually. It's not extensive, but it got a little tense when my shields got down low and I was desperately looking for rocks to mine. I also enjoyed playing crystal basketball into the pipes :)

The Art- I thought the art was awesome! That's the whole reason I clicked on your game in the first place. The particle effects for the rocks and the shield were really cool, and I liked how you made the world although kind of small look visually appealing.

Things I didn't like:

Polish- The game didn't feel polished to me. The movement lag, the drill not matching the cursor, and the text screens bothered me a bit (they weren't that visually appealing/ it was too much text). I wish you would have taken more time to polish these issues out. Granted I was impressed by the gameplay, it just needs fine tuning.

Overall, really well done. I hope you score well!

PowerAttack by Entercyber 2017-08-09T16:08:34Z

@entercyber Great job!

Things I liked:

The Gameplay: Many people love tower defense games including myself, and this is a nice take on it. It is tense because there aren't really waves but a constant barrage, and you have to make split-second decisions as to where you want to put your batteries. I found it fun to play!

The Graphics: I think the graphics were pretty good. They definitely got the point across as to what the objects were, and were nice to look at.

I didn't like:

Lack of Sound: I would have liked some background music to make it even tenser and help set the tone. I didn't appreciate the complete silence.

Polish: There were times when I tried to put the battery at the base and it didn't register, so I lost automatically. Also, the beginning menu looks jumbled and out of place, although I appreciate you made a tutorial screen. I think you should have spent a bit more time making sure the gameplay was fluent and as bug-free as possible.

Overall, really nice job. Good luck!

Keep Your Coal, Dude by DragonZlay 2017-08-04T20:15:24Z

@dragonzlay Hey this is pretty coal!

Things I liked:

Music/Sound: Great work on the sound. The music helped make the game feel tense, and I thought that laser sound effects were really good too.

Puzzle Design: For a game jam and even in general, you had some great puzzle design, utilizing the lasers, spikes, and different jumps. I think I got to the last left because it was really hard, which in my eyes is a good thing.

Things I didn't like:

Polish: This is what I think your game needs the most. The jump mechanic is a little wonky/buggy, which is bad considering it's the main mechanic. Arguably I would have worked on ironing out the kinks in the gameplay first before moving onto other stuff. It works, but it could be improved.

Overall I really liked it. Best of luck!

The Last Cup Of Coffee by jin47 2017-08-03T16:30:36Z

Lol, very nice game @jin47

Things I liked:

The Models- You did a very nice job creating good low poly models for not only the characters, but the scenery as well. The animations were a nice touch as well.

The Sound- I liked the background music, as well as the sound effects. They helped to complete the mood of the game, and made it feel receptive (I can tell you used Audacity :) Nice work).

The Idea- Honestly, this is one of the more humorous and interesting ideas I have seen the Ludum Dare. Well done on that!

Things I didn't like:

No Mouse Sensitivity Option- I felt like the mouse sensitivity was way too high. I see that you released a new version with lower sensitivity, but I wish you added a sensitivity slider.

Shooting- Because you had unlimited ammo, spamming staples seemed like the best approach because there is no negative to it. I would have liked to seen either limited ammo or a reload mechanic, to add a bit more strategy to the shooting gameplay.

I like what I see. Good luck!

Power Chase by Thinkofname 2017-08-11T16:09:25Z

@thinkofname It's pretty cool!

Things I liked:

The Art: Not only do I think the pixel art is good, but I love the different color lighting you have that also cast dynamic shadows. It really makes the game world feel more alive.

The Gameplay: I really like games like Super Meat Boy, which is what I feel you got a lot of inspiration from. It's fun, tense, and requires some strategy and practice.

Things I didn't like:

Movement: The movement seemed a little buggy and choppy to me. The wall jump seemed a little too delayed and hard to do, and I found a spot where I just got stuck. The character also looks like he's stutter stepping when he moves (might just be a sprite glitch). Especially since the core of the game is movement I would have liked to have seen it a little more polished.

Lack of Background Music: The sound effects you had were great actually, but I would have liked to have seen a little background music. It just helps complete the mood in my opinion.

Overall, very nice work. Good luck!

I'm Not Your President by wisstopher 2017-08-02T20:05:59Z

@wisstopher this is pretty cool!

Things I liked:

Graphics- Anyone with eyes knows that the graphics are amazing for such a short time. I love the lighting, the character models, and just about everything else. Well done!

Sound- The sound was really good. I think the music was almost close to being too repetitive, but the sounds after getting a button and the lasers were cool and helped set the tone

Things I didn't like:

The Camera- So I actually liked that you decided to keep the camera stationary, but it didn't function right with the levels. I think it was the third level where you are moving towards the camera and there are lasers coming from the ceiling, and with the way the camera is set up, it's really hard to tell where the lasers are compared to the ones nearest to the camera. I like the mechanic, but I think you should fix the level design around it.

I'm Not Your President is really cool, and I think you'll place well!

Plug me in by ciobeni 2017-08-06T23:56:02Z

@ciobeni Nice work!

I liked:

The Puzzles: I think puzzle games are one of the more risky games you can make for Ludum Dare because you need to put in a lot of work, but I think you did a good job with them. They did require thinking.

The Music: It was really upbeat, fast-paced, and just cool to listen too. It also gave off the robot/power vibe.

I didn't like:

The Battery: I think for the first 5 or so levels the battery was set too high and I ended up with half of it left by the time I reached the plug. Then on the level with the 2 boxes I just kept running out of power trying to figure it out. I think you should have made the battery for each level only a little more than the shortest route to make you think a little more. I also wish restarting reset the battery like some other people said.

Overall, really solid work! Good luck!

Indie Power-Up Supply Co. by marekkpie 2017-08-03T15:23:32Z

@marekkpie Your game is really cool!

Things I liked:

The Idea: It was like a Tetris Puzzle Papers Please sort of mix game, and I really like the idea. The way you incorporated it with the indie theme was brilliant as well

The Art: For a short amount of time, you made a bunch of good lucking pixel art. I can tell from each icon what they are, and the pixel theme is consistent throughout the game.

Things I didn't like:

The tiling: Although I liked your art, with some of the models it's pretty hard to tell if there is an open space on the game board or not, which made solving puzzles a bit confusing. I would have maybe added a slight semi-transparent border around each object so you can tell exactly how many spots they take up.

Lack of Music: Once I got all of my pieces onto the board and I started putting them in place, it was silent only until I completed the level. Even a little background music loop would have completed the feel of the game.

Great work! Best of luck.

Out of Power by cpv 2017-08-05T22:58:32Z

@cpv I saved him! Nice job for your first entry.

I liked:

The Art- I really like the art actually. The models are decently detailed for low poly, and I liked how the generator moved and the operating room was dynamic in that there were flashing lights and moving things. It's nice to look at.

I didn't like:

The Gameplay- There really isn't much to do except press the spacebar. I would have liked to see something like only pressing the spacebar at certain times (like have a meter that goes back and forth, and if you hit the spacebar in the green zone you get power) or just something else to not make it so monotonous.

Congrats on your first entry!

Harvest And Extract by Kthulhu1947 2017-08-11T19:53:37Z

@kthulhu1947 Really cool!

I liked:

The Graphics: They weren't the most high quality, but you did a lot of different stuff that got the point across. Overall I thought that game was interesting to look at.

The Sound FX: The sound effects were cool in that it made it feel like a classic ascii type game with a sort of industrial futuristic vibe.

I didn't like:

The Gameplay: Now I did like the idea of finding oil and exploring, but it felt a bit incomplete. It was kind of easy and simple, and I would have liked to have seen something more challenging or more dynamic (the barbarians you mentioned is a great idea).

Overall, really solid entry. Good luck!

Planetarium by Irishbruse 2017-08-12T00:03:28Z

@irishbruse Nice game!

I liked:

The Art: I am a space junkie which made me like looking at the stars, planets, and spaceships even more. I actually really liked the grid as well. It was mostly low poly, but it still looked really good. Well done!

The Sound: I liked the sound effects in your game that felt really crisp and futuristic. Also, background music is a plus for me.

I didn't like:

The Gameplay: I liked that there was a learning curve, but I did have problems with the main gameplay. It took way too long to kill any spaceships, to the point where I felt the only way to survive was to constantly thrust away. Because a lot of enemies come and that you have to be close to the sun to get power, the limited mobility hurt the gameplay. I would have liked WSAD control, so it's easier to control. It was still fun as is, but it could use improvement.

Overall, I thought you did a great job. Good luck!

PS: It appears you spawn multiple music objects, resulting in a weird sound overlay. To fix this, look up the DontDestryOnLoad function for Unity. You can download my source code and look at the Music_Manager to see how I did it.

Powerpanel by Crckbaerchen 2017-08-03T21:08:03Z

@crckbaerchen Saved the world! 723.93!

For your first game and doing it during a game jam, this is great!

Things I liked:

The Gameplay- I really liked having multiple things going on at once. It made the gameplay tense, and made you always look around and think. It reminds me of Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes in a way. I think you also balanced the game very well. I failed my first few times, but eventually I managed to win.

The Design- While maybe you don't have the best artwork, I love the layout and design of the screen. It's like a control panel out of Star Trek with different indicators knobs and screens that I constantly have to monitor.

Things I didn't like:

Lack of Sound- I understand this is your first game, but I would have at least liked some sound. You can download programs like Bosca Ceoil or Audacity to make some basic music/sound fx in a short time.

Polish- The beginning screen could use a bit of polish. I wish you had chosen to use a more attractive font and changed up the color palette a bit.

Overall you should be very proud of your first game! I wish you the best of luck in the future! If you want to ask me any questions or hear my opinions more, let me know :)

Power Connection by Martinus 2017-08-04T20:32:19Z

@martinus I saved the CDC!

Things I liked:

The Gameplay: I like the sort of timed Tetris kind of gameplay. Rather than just give a limited amount of pipes, I like how you just kept them coming and time was your enemy.

The Tutorial: This might sound a little lame, but to me I am very glad you made a good tutorial screen. A lot of people even myself neglect a tutorial other than the description, but you very clearly explained how to play your game in the menu. Nice touch!

Things I didn't like:

The Impossible Levels: I encountered a few impossible levels, which you are aware of by the ability to reset a level. I don't like this because it makes the game not feel as "genuine" if you will. I would have appreciated if you made a system that checked if there was an available path before creating the level. That way you could add in a score for how many levels you got in a row.

It was a great idea! Well done!

Universal Powers by Snowy 2017-08-04T21:07:03Z

@snowy Hey what's up Snowy! It's HunGARE. I happened to comment on a game you commented on as well, and decided to play your game. I got to situation 16!

Things I liked:

The Art: The sprites, the chair, and especially the background are all very good looking. I am very impressed with all of the art, because it draws me in and keeps me interested.

The Sound/Music: I thought the background music was good, and the sound effects were cute. They were very crisp as well.

The Humor: I don't think I even need to explain. You are definitely placing high for humor!

Things I didn't like:

A bit confusing: Now I am not a text based/choice game veteren, but I found some choices to be confusing. I like the idea, but I didn't always like how the situations were twisted. I mean they were funny like the asteroid making a swimming pool, but it felt more random than anything. I'm not sure exactly how to change this because if you tell the player before hand what their choices will affect then it will be too easy. I just think you should have made the situation outcomes a little more realistic and predictable (not all but some).

Overall I think you did a great job. I think you'll place pretty high!

PS: Lol, you throw the exception, but it hits a deer in the head.

Universal Powers by Snowy 2017-08-23T01:13:58Z

11th in humor! Congrats Snowy!

Thunderstorm by NNNIKKI 2017-08-14T14:57:48Z

@nnnikki Wow!

I liked:

The Gameplay: It was innovative, had multiple game modes, and was ultimately fun. It's a lot to ask for 2 of the 3 things for a Ludum Dare entry, yet you had all 3! Very good job on the gameplay!

The Sound: The background music was pretty good, and I liked the sound effects. Especially the rain helped set the mood.

I didn't like:

The Graphics: It's not that the graphics were bad, but you had pixel art clouds and catchers, but the background was a sort of cartoony and more complex looking. It didn't seem to fit well together. I would have liked to have seen a more consistent art style.

Overall, your gameplay rocks! Good luck!

Hungry Sky by edmond00 2017-08-01T17:48:35Z

Well done Edmond!

What I liked:

Graphics- The art looks awesome in general, especially for a game jam. The fact that you made so many assets like the animals and all the trees are really cool too. Adding the effect of the trees getting struck by lightning and turning black was a really nice touch too. The Idea- I do think the idea is pretty interesting. It really makes you think about the movement and the timings of the strikes.

What I didn't like: Polish- I understand that it is a game jam, but the movement and overall gameplay didn't feel right. I wish the movement was smoother so there wasn't a delay when switching direction. I also wish you added an indicator in the scene like a highlight for where the lightning will strike, instead of just the red line up top. There were also times when the red line would be at the very end, so it was impossible to avoid it (I just saw above that you said it's if you run too low on food, so disregard lol).

I think if you refined the gameplay a bit more, it would turn into an even better game!

ElectriClick by Cornelia Xaos 2017-08-06T14:00:59Z

@cornelia-xaos Nice game!

I liked:

The Gameplay- This is much better than the traditional Cookie Clicker like gameplay of idle games. It's actually tense and involves some strategy. Although I personally found it a bit tedious and easy most of the time, it was still fun.

I didn't like:

Lack Of Sound- I would have liked a little background music, as well as sound effects when you buy turbines, solar cells, etc. They would have made the game come together more and be responsive.

Overall really solid game! Good luck!

City Power by ChrissiQ 2017-08-05T00:26:33Z

@chrissiq It's a pretty small and simple game, but I still think it's cool. The music is really good, and I think if you spent more time on it, it has great potential!

STRATOS-RZ1 by matevt 2017-08-03T15:08:24Z

@matevt Congrats on completing your first Unity project! This is a great start.

Things I liked:

The Gameplay- I really loved how the mechanics balanced with each other. You want a decent amount of power so you don't die, but not too much so you go too fast and hit a bunch of reds. You also need to decide when to pick up the points versus the power pickups. It got really tense for me when I was getting 500+ power!

The Sound Effects- The sound effects were pretty good. Having the sounds sound good for the points and the power and sound bad for the damage health made the game feel receptive.

Things I didn't like:

Lack Of Art- The spaceship model looks good, but I would have like to see something more interesting than a sphere for the pickups (rotating cube, 3D Icons for Power, Points, and Health)

Lack Of Music- I liked the sound fx, but not having music was a negative for me. It already felt tense when I was getting faster, and having a little bit of upbeat fast paced music would have completed the mood. Granted, I'm not great at making music myself, but I would have liked to see something.

You said this was your first Unity project, which is very impressive, especially for a game jam! Best of luck in the future!

LD42 — Running out of space

Giant Sun by bemmu 2018-08-16T21:19:27Z

Yay I'm 4th place (Currently). It is a really cool game! It definitely has a good amount of gameplay with the need to get oxygen and fuel. The music was very peaceful and set the mood well too. I liked the gravity of the planets concept, but sometimes it was very hard to navigate, but I get that it's supposed to be hard. However, I would have liked to have been able to walk along the planet left and right once I'm on it. It would make retrieving the fuel/oxygen easier, and that way you could make the sun come faster to still keep the difficulty. This is one of the better entries I have seen. Well done!

Scrap Field by ping78 2018-08-31T14:58:18Z

Wow! Honestly, I am super impressed. You really have a lot of gameplay. With all the interactions inside the ship, at the space station, and flying outside the ship, it makes it really fun to play. I also really liked the art, especially the light streak effects outside the ship. And for the icing on the cake, you even made a settings menu! It was really awesome to play. The only thing I could have asked for was a bit of background music. Awesome job!

Running Cosmonaut Simulator by hungare 2018-08-16T15:59:46Z

@endurion Thank you! Yeah I didn't do a whole lot of testing with the resolutions, and I should have made some sort of progressive difficulty.

Running Cosmonaut Simulator by hungare 2018-08-17T17:58:12Z

@cristihjk Thanks! Yeah your right, I could have added a bit more juice to it. @erikiene Thank you! I should probably get around to doing a WebGL build too. @chicomcastro Much appreciated! I've never published for mobile before, but I'll definitely think about it.

Running Cosmonaut Simulator by hungare 2018-08-25T19:38:38Z

@Petra sorry about that. @divinenephron Thank you! I agree I should have added some more elements to the gameplay to make it more challenging.

Break-in by erikkire 2018-09-02T14:33:43Z

Nice game! I like the idea, and it was a bit challenging especially when the ball got hit to go faster. I feel like the visuals could have used improvement, especially for a simpler game like this. It was fun, but having that juice factor makes it even better. I watched this talk with a game very similar about adding "juice", and I think it's great to learn from (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg). Good work!

The Consumer by foolmoron 2018-08-16T21:27:43Z

This is the most interesting game I have seen this jam! Very cool. The gameplay is very fun, because the more I played, the more panels I felt I could add. It would have been nice for it to be more video related, but still the gameplay was fun. Can't really give you much of a rating for art and music though since its from videos. Overall, very nice game!

Ludam Dare 42: Lava Escape by GhostReven 2018-09-02T14:40:16Z

Nice job! The difficulty was very nice and I loved the music. It was fun to play as well. I get that maybe you were trying to go for that look, but I didn't care for the hand drawn text. I'm not saying the art and everything has to be perfect, but having font and art assets that look good together and easily portray what they are make games look better. Well done!

Window Hopper by Avocado 2018-08-26T17:46:55Z

I really like games that use different windows as gameplay. It's very innovative. That being said, I feel like it needed more polish because sometimes it felt like the windows were acting weird. A little more gameplay like enemies or obstacles would have been nice too. The self-destructing windows to end the game was a nice touch too. Good job!

Chill Chair Simulator by radmars 2018-08-25T20:06:56Z

Haha I like it! I'm a fan of QWOP like games, so this was fun for me. I did manage to survive once. Good take on the theme, and the music and sound fx definitely set the mood. However, when I think of a game like this with crazy physics mechanics, I think more cartoony and lively with the theme. I don't think escaping death and hostages. The mood and mechanics kind of feel disconnected. That's my opinion though. Nice job!

Use Your Space Wisely by cptalbertwesker 2018-08-31T14:43:16Z

Cool! I really liked the art style and animation of your game. It made it feel different than the other entries. I also liked that there was a decent amount of different objects and you really had to think about what's heavy and what would fit. Personally, I would have liked some background music, and a concurrent score count would have been nice. Great job!

The Infinite Hotel by mikethewayne 2018-08-26T17:13:02Z

Theme hotel is one of my favorite flash games ever, so I had to play your game. I like it! The art and animation are really good for such a short time, and it had a decent amount of gameplay. It seems very well balanced too, which is very hard to do for a jam. For me, I wish there was some more visual feedback. For example, I want to see angry tourists who have to leave if there's not enough space, or having a little animation when you buy something or make money. I know this is kind of nit-picky feedback (Which I guess is a good thing if this is the only criticism I have), but my clicks didn't always feel like they were doing something if you get what I mean. Overall, very good job!

Cave Dwellers by Cheesey Bob 2018-08-25T19:47:24Z

It's really fun! Definitely a great idea for the theme. You did a great job with the design as well, with the tutorial levels and increasing difficulty. I honestly don't mind the art. It's simple and portrays the buildings/icons well. I would have liked a bit of background music. Everything feels too still when I'm stopping and trying to think how to solve the puzzle. Maybe if the river was animated or there was some sort of environmental lighting kind of effect so it doesn't feel so static. Overall, you did great!

SQUASH KILL by Smithy 2018-09-02T19:25:33Z

Nice work! I thought the idea was very creative, and the animation of the boxes and text was a nice touch. I would have liked a bit of sound, but it's no biggy. Well done!

W a l l i f o r n i c a t i o n by psychead 2018-08-25T20:00:12Z

Awesome! You definitely put a good amount of polish on it. The mechanics are solid, I like the art, and I really like the camera effects/mechanics. I don't really have much criticism actually. I could go either way with telling the player if they will crash or not. Well done!

Thoughts In My Head by haley 2018-08-16T21:11:45Z

35% cats haha. I like it! It is kind of morbid in this weird way, but I did find it fun and I liked the all the different thoughts. The Sound FX and music both helped set the mood too, which was a big plus for me. Only thing was that I thought the art was okay. It's not bad art, I just don't think the text background and other UI elements fit together. Overall well done!

Fuel Jump by Zahab_AQ 2018-08-16T15:27:46Z

Congrats on your first game! Honestly, it's pretty good. I'm really digging the graphics, and the gameplay idea is cool. It is on the shorter side, and I would have liked at least some sound, but it is really solid. Keep going! You only get better from here!

We Haul by Swordfish 2018-08-16T15:50:18Z

Lol no one would hire me to move furniture. I like it! It's an interesting take on the theme, and the base gameplay added with the ability to rotate the items makes it entertaining. I like the progressive background music as well. The only thing is that it felt a little glitchy sometimes. The clipping/colliders got weird sometimes, and I think that the gameplay just needed a little more polished to make it more playable. Overall, you "shipped" a great game!

Space Race by Raziyya 2018-08-18T12:55:42Z

Nice! It's a very fun and challenging game. The music and sound FX definitely help set that arcadey tone too. I agree that the bullets could have been a bit more visible, maybe a tiny bit bigger and add a trail. There were a few times when the AI kind of got stuck on the wall too. But overall, a very fun game!

Climb by Albin 2018-08-16T15:33:08Z

I like it! I like the graphics as well, but I think it would have looked even better if the text had the pencil drawn look to make everything cohesive. The gameplay was also kind of challenging but fun. I wish there was some sound, even a simple background music, but all in all it was well done!

Requiem for the Postman by Lumos 2018-08-26T17:23:15Z

That german dictionary got me haha! I really like it! Definitely one of the funnier entries I have seen. I really like that there was depth to the gameplay too, and wasn't just as simple as sorting mail. My only criticism was the art, but that's not such a big deal to me since it had really good gameplay. Some sort of animated background or camera effects would have been nice. Well done!

Depot by Yayiest 2018-09-02T19:12:49Z

That was awesome! The gameplay was fun, I loved the progressive music, and adding the little camera turn animation between scenes was a very nice touch. It was very creative and it had a great amount of gameplay and difficulty. The only thing I didn't like was that it was kind of annoying to me to have boxes get stuck in between the different chutes. I would have liked them removed altogether or have the boxes have physics to fall to on side if it hits the middle. Overall, very well done!

Rumble Trouble by alexkarate 2018-08-16T13:03:43Z

Nice game! The length and difficulty are actually really good. I found it challenging but not so much to annoy me, and I managed to beat the game. I'm glad there's a good amount of gameplay, with the multiple keys and tiles that you can stand on 2-3 times. The only critique I have is the art. The background was pretty boring, and if you changed it to a different color and added a particle system/some sort of animated background, I think the game would have looked a lot prettier. Overall, you did great work!

Classic Snake (Made by 12 yr old) by James51332 2018-08-27T03:53:50Z

Wow, you made a game at 12 years old! I'm impressed! I wish I had done game dev when I was that age. It's not a big game, but it's complete and plays well. I really hope you stick with it, because one your graduating high school you'll already have a job secured in the industry. Well done!

Big Crunch by LensFlare 2018-08-26T17:33:35Z

Very beautiful game! The title screen was awesome, and I loved the particle effects. It all felt very lively. I think you had a great idea with the gameplay, but the mechanics felt kind of clunky and could have been tested more. A good amount of the time as soon as I warped I would die because I would spawn in the next galaxy already at the edge. I would have liked to have spawned in the middle of each galaxy each time so that wouldn't happen. Overall, nice entry!

No Place To Die by ZephyrExtreme 2018-08-15T18:02:09Z

Nice work guys! Your game definitely has the "juice" factor with the moving text, visual fx, and the music. It's a fun arcadey game. I haven't played a lot of games like this, but I wasn't a fan of the controls. It was kind of annoying to get used to. I would have liked to have seen a bit more gameplay too, like a powerup or a special type of zombie, just to make it more interesting. Overall, really solid entry!

Collapse by Gulfick 2018-08-27T04:02:06Z

Nice! I love the concept of switching from 2D to 3D, even if it wasn't that long or often. Adding the dialogue and events also made it very interesting, something I don't see from a lot of entries. Sound would have been nice, like a walking noise or some background music to set the mood. I would have liked it to be a tad longer/have more depth too. Overall, I really like it!

SomeRandomPCCleaningSoftware by Zelberor 2018-08-26T17:40:18Z

Nice work! I like your take on the theme, which made the gameplay very interesting. I did like the humor of the ratings as well. I would have liked a little more polish on the vacuum cleaner. It didn't seem to have a very large range of influence, and I spent a good amount of time struggling to pick folders up. Maybe make it easier to pick folders up but make the camera scroll faster. All in all, nice job!
