LD35 — Shapeshift

Shape Collector by Jogy34 2016-04-19T10:34:00

It's not loading properly for me, I'm just getting a grey square over some smaller coloured squares :(

Mixle by stoo 2016-04-19T09:50:00

This game is lovely, I really like it. Though I don't think that your mis-clicks should count as turns, you should be able to cancel out a turn without penalty.

Also, the audio reminds me of Kerbal Space Program.

MODE_SHIFT by RyanNielson 2016-04-19T19:23:00

A solid shmup. I like it. Hard though (but I never was any good at shmups).

The Great Transmuter by Yarg 2016-04-18T10:17:00

I totally agree with "Qrr". This is good fun, a nice idea well put-together, but could do with a gentler difficulty curve.
This is nit-picking for something made in 48 hours though, well done!

The Long Night by Husky 2016-04-18T10:24:00

This isn't really "my genre", but I can tell how much care and attention you put into this game. It's really well done.
I really like the storytelling and the atmosphere. One thing I could suggest though, is that it's difficult to see the shape being manipulated a lot of the time (both in the viewport and against the background).

Shape Up by F4KETHIS 2016-04-22T01:07:00

Very fun idea, with a good presentation and very nice audio. Unfortunately my bear was bugging out and stopped responding with his right arm and then got stuck leaning right. Otherwise lovely.

Morph Ranger by mrnannings 2016-04-18T13:41:00

This is great. Some very good level design and tutorialising for a 48hr game. A well-implemented metroid-vania-esque-thing. Not sure I'd have gone with green and pink though...

Shape/Shift by GodsBoss 2016-04-18T14:28:00

A really fun little puzzler. It would have been nice to spend a little more time with each new mechanic though.

Turnstone by Walnoot 2016-04-22T23:58:00

This is a fun little platformer with unique movement. I really liked how your level design tutorialised mechanics without needing any explicit tutorials. I'm sure if you expanded on this you could make some interesting challenges with these ideas.

Malformed by Takadimi 2016-04-22T01:19:00

I'm afraid it crashes on load for me. No error message, just "ld35.exe has stopped working" :(

Malformed by Takadimi 2016-04-22T01:24:00

Nicely done, and very impressive to do it straight in OpenGL.

On that note, you might want to tell people with laptops (like mine) with dual graphics (both integrated and dedicated) that they should tell their computer to explicitly use the dedicated graphics for this to avoid a crash on load. A lot of those integrated chips that get paired with dedicated cards don't have OpenGL support.

Captain Shape by tiffi 2016-04-18T14:01:00

Very cool to make an Android game, and a networked one at that :)

News Anchor Simulator by thephantom 2016-04-18T10:38:00

I like the passive storytelling in such a short and simple game. I think by developing the core mechanic into something more interesting you could make it much better though.

Weapon Shifters by Nick Weihs 2016-04-18T10:47:00

It won't run on my PC :(
No window appears and I get no error message, it just insta-quits. The process only runs for half a second or so.

Windows 10 64bit, nvidia 840m.

Photagogue by ChuiGum 2016-04-18T10:50:00

I can't see it either, but I'd love to give it a go.

my fathers apartment by emmelineprufrock 2016-04-18T10:55:00

I was really getting into the mood of this, with the lovely graphics and sound, and then it ended! I'd love to see a story develop through this.

Balthazar The Shapeshifting Wizard by PyroSneak 2016-04-18T10:55:00

The link is broken. It leads to a 404 error

Elemental Shaft by NIGIC 2016-04-18T11:25:00

A nice puzzle game, definitely got me thinking backwards!

Therianthropy by technocf 2016-04-18T12:42:00

A very nice little puzzle platformer. Good fun and some neat challenges. I spent ages with that ice staircase before I realised I had a gem that stopped me from sliding.

A Cursor-y Attempt by RNanoware 2016-04-18T12:48:00

Hey, fellow first-timer :) Well done on getting it in on time.
I'm finding it really difficult at the moment. I'm not sure I understand how you're supposed to go about moving the colours around. Could you perhaps elaborate a bit?

Shape Thief by frogcheese 2016-04-18T13:06:00

I really like the animations and the core gameplay is cool. But I'd definitely not use shift for attack, Windows keeps wanting to turn on sticky keys!

Formation Charge! by theholychicken 2016-04-18T12:52:00

Could you post a built version please?

Butterfly by dtap 2016-04-18T14:34:00

This is a really fun idea, and I like how you can just dance on your own once everybody starts to leave :P

Armicus by disdanes 2016-04-18T12:55:00

I have the right to bear arms!

Nicely done. I like the animations and the music.

Werewolf by osthekake 2016-04-18T13:01:00

A nice little risk- and resource-management browser game. Nicely done :)

Shapeshifting by Tooichi 2016-04-20T22:33:00

Well done for getting it in on time. But please change the jump arc if you continue with it. Check out the jump arcs of existing 2d platformers (especially the 2d Mario's) to get an idea for how they feel.

PopcornShift by Tegu 2016-04-18T15:13:00

Damn those are some hungry plants

Michael by fizzhog 2016-04-20T22:53:00

I'm glad I played this. Not entirely sure why, but I am.

Generations by Rother Games 2016-04-18T15:22:00

A really cool take on the theme, and I love the hand-drawn graphics. Nice job.

Shapeshift by Crafting4U 2016-04-18T13:53:00

Nice music and graphics, it's fun.

ShapeShape by Jin47 2016-04-18T16:41:00

Your "Unity Web Player" link is broken, it just takes me to download the html file without any of the data files.

But playing the Windows download everything's good, well done :)

ShapeShape by Jin47 2016-04-18T16:48:00

Hey, fellow first-timer :)

Your "Unity Web Player" link is broken, it just takes me to download the html file without any of the data files.

But playing the Windows download everything's good, well done :) It's a fun core mechanic, but damn those hitboxes are unforgiving :)

Harvest Meadow Madness by joekinley 2016-04-21T17:54:00

Wow that screen shake!

Shift Shapes by alfie275 2016-04-18T17:00:00

A nice game for an hour's work :)

King Of The Claw by bob5602 2016-04-22T23:52:00

Nicely done. Congratulations on getting your first one in.

Rock-Paper-Scissors Man by Idorrac 2016-04-18T18:22:00

This is a really nice entry, well done fellow first-timer :)

RETRO MIAMI BEAT by giordanno92 2016-04-25T00:54:00

Looks and sounds gorgeous. I have to say I found it very hard though (but I've never really been one for rhythm games). Well done.

Particle Shift by ccglp 2016-04-18T09:47:00

Nicely done. Maybe make the tutorials shorter though, (or better, integrate them into real gameplay).

Brutally Shifty Dance Crew by Franklin's Ghost 2016-04-25T11:25:00

Very nice animations, I'm not sure why the bar depleted so quickly though. It felt like my button presses weren't extending the time much at all. Well done for a good game.

Poly-go-on by A.W. Apps 2016-04-25T00:15:00

This is very elegant, but not very challenging. Maybe if you had the tracks cross over themselves sometimes? That would stop you from just registering if the barriers were on the inside/outside of the shape so easily.

Echoes by FrameMatt 2016-04-18T16:34:00

I really like this game, but I'm finding the jump controls really buggy! Sometimes the game just decides it doesn't want to take my [up button] inputs any more, making me get stuck :( I don't really feel I can rate it properly because I can't progress very far.
Animations are lovely though.

Chexshift by Tharky 2016-04-18T14:51:00

Cool idea, well done.

Go On A Journey by xWarZonex 2016-04-22T01:14:00

Good music, but I had to check the comments below to work out that the "shapeshifting" needed the mouse...

Super Shape Shifter by Mickey1356 2016-05-02T18:54:00

Overall a very nice entry. My main criticism is a balance one: the transitions are far too slow and the game is very difficult, but these are all very easy things to tweak. I'd like to see a more polished version :)

ShootShift by elkiwydev 2016-04-19T19:04:00

I like the game, but within a couple of rooms I'd just lose the ability to shoot altogether making it impossible to progress. Lovely graphics and well-done but this bug makes it unplayable for me :(

Fusionshift by thedashdude 2016-04-25T00:10:00

I think you've got some really interesting ideas, and I like the game. I would suggest dropping the whole "modulo 4" thing though, it's more confusing than it needs to be. Why not just cycle through four shapes? Or use colours?

Essence Run by KristophTG 2016-04-21T18:03:00

Nicely done. Thank you so much for including checkpoints, they're so often missed out of LD entries.

Shiftshapes by headchant 2016-04-21T17:59:00

Decent typing game. Difficulty ramps up very fast. Well done for getting something in.

PixelShifter by Tony-C 2016-04-20T23:11:00

I really like the idea. Why don't you pin the z-axis positions of the pixels though? I kept having my pixels tumble off the front of the terrain. Unity has this functionality built in to its Rigidbody components.

Square Peg Round Hole by RealityCheck 2016-04-18T15:01:00

Nice game, I especially like the music.

Snap & Shift by Cowa 2016-04-18T13:20:00

I really like this core mechanic, and the graphics are really sweet, but I wish you'd had more time to develop on the ideas! I feel there's a lot of potential here.

Endless Runner by isaque.picao.sanches 2016-04-18T09:50:00

I really like this. Nicely done for making a fun puzzle game so quickly!

ShapaSort Recycling by Yrasin 2016-04-18T14:15:00

Fantastic job, though Dr. Garbage can't say the same for me...

Sharpshifter by jonnopon3000 2016-04-21T18:08:00

Very nice, well done, but I never felt the need to move.

GattoMagico by tanis 2016-04-19T19:43:00

Nicely done. I would prefer it if you didn't insta-die with every mistake though.

L.I.G.H.T. by Flygamer101 2016-04-19T19:13:00

I love the music and graphics, they give it a great feel. Maybe try to spend a little more time on the physics next time?

L.I.G.H.T. by Flygamer101 2016-04-19T19:17:00

By the way, you can delete the ".pdb" files from your windows upload. They're not necessary and just increase the download size immensely.

Worm shifter by mde 2016-05-02T18:57:00

A nice little minigame, well done for getting it in.

Shapeshift Inc by Jajo 2016-05-05T21:09:00

Well done for getting this in. It's a nice idea, but I agree with others that you should experiment more with the mechanic.

Dice Delve by lanestp 2016-04-20T22:27:00

I like this, but it could do with more challenge. All you need to to do is back up until you'd win the encounter. Very original though.

Mighty Morphin Cactus : In The Dark by siryakko 2016-04-18T09:55:00

I really like the music (and the cactuar!) but I wasn't able to find any collectables :(
Well done for making it :)

Particle Mess by Tetha 2016-05-05T21:24:00

Very cool to see a simulation based game, nice job. Would be cool to develop it with something to work against.

Shapeshift Flood by RegaCaska 2016-05-05T21:54:00

Basic, but a really great idea. Very well done. I'm sure with some small tweaking to the mechanic it could be even better.

Druid: Wait I'm a What? by NCBRdev 2016-05-05T22:01:00

Nice little game. Definitely needs some indicator of your attack and damage though. Some lovely drawing and nice music.

Mech-a-Plane by Squarlboy 2016-05-05T22:45:00

Nicely done. Maybe have a movement speed limit next time?

Size Matters by CelloCoder 2016-04-20T23:03:00

It's a nice beginning, but very difficult when the player hasn't been taught anything (I had to check the comments below to work out you could sprint, then got stuck a few rooms later, not knowing whether I'd worked myself into a dead-end or I was missing another mechanic). There's definitely potential here though.

A magical shapeshift by Berserker_Chris 2016-04-18T10:31:00

Nicely done. I really like the main mechanic. It would be nice to have a faster restart turnaround time to help you learn the ropes though.

Shift Commander by cynicalmonkey 2016-05-02T18:29:00

Well done for getting it in. I didn't really know what I was doing for the most part though.

ShapeCrafter by EstrelSteel 2016-04-22T00:50:00

Well done for getting this in. It's a neat idea

S.D.A: Shapeshift Detection Agency by zacerhy 2016-04-18T15:05:00

I love the interpretation of the theme, good fun.

Ludum Bear by DifferentName 2016-04-21T18:21:00

Nice shapeshifting mechanic, but I wish there was more variety. Well done though.

Tale of a Shifter by jelch 2016-05-02T18:32:00

The game seemed to freeze after just the first enemy for me :( Also, I agree with others that more feedback for user interactions would be great. Love the art and music though.

A Tale Of Shifted Shapes by Odyssey 2016-04-22T00:55:00

This looks very nice, but the controls are very perplexing, why was the mouse ever locked in the first place?

Pufferfish: The Game Not The Fish by HunGARE 2016-04-20T23:15:00

I love the shark's sound effect!

ViralNet by Belroth 2016-04-22T01:00:00

I couldn't get either type of ship to attack anything at all, I was just sailing around trying to avoid fire. Well done on your first entry though :)

Claws shape by in3orn 2016-05-02T18:40:00

Nice job. I found it very difficult with so many patterns to keep track on though, I'd suggest trying to boil down to the core ideas maybe?

LD35: A Shape Odyssey. by blaclegi 2016-04-25T00:25:00

Congratulations on your first game. The bird was quite difficult to control because of the fast movement, it made me wonder whether the movement speed was tied to framerate?

Block Shift by gameXcore 2016-04-18T14:08:00

I don't think that's a loose interpretation of the theme at all :)
Well done for getting it in so quickly. Also for the funky funky music :)

Shifter by sP0CkEr2 2016-04-25T00:35:00

A very nice little game, except the first few minutes which are dull.
Also, you should really only use things you made in 48hrs for the compo. This belongs in the Jam as-is.

Wisdom by Xakkar 2016-04-18T10:00:00

I don't think my "use active skill" button was working. I wasn't able to get way from the first area. Am I missing something?

TriTurn by Kifuga 2016-04-18T16:27:00

This is a wonderful little game. Clever core mechanic well-executed. Oh, and it looks and sounds pretty to boot :)

The Depths Below the Caves by mimy9 2016-04-18T13:19:00

I really like this core mechanic, and the graphics are really sweet, but I wish you'd had more time to develop on the ideas! I feel there's a lot of potential here.

The Depths Below the Caves by mimy9 2016-04-18T13:21:00

Hey, fellow first-timer. I'd love to try this out but I'm getting a 404 error on your Windows link :(

PolygonInvasion by Xesin 2016-04-18T10:09:00

I got 9575 points :)
This is really fun, well done. But my god are the enemies in level 2 tough.
A couple of suggestions: 1) why not have the player auto-shoot, since there seems to be no reason to ever stop shooting? 2) Maybe vary the pitch of the sounds on each play, they'll get less repetitive that way.

Plato and the 'Caves by qu2 2016-04-18T20:31:00

@Tegu. Thank you for the feedback and advice. I've updated the download file to remove the pdbs.

Plato and the 'Caves by qu2 2016-04-19T17:03:00

@Empyrealhell. There are several ways, but you have to think about it. You can get them trapped behind walls, blow them up with bombs, or use Artemis to out-run them.

Geometry Evolution by Azumiar 2016-04-18T16:14:00

Nice entry. Well done

SquareShift - Sticky Squares by zugende 2016-04-18T13:32:00

I beat level 4!
http://imgur.com/EKDdyIX
This is really fun, especially the early levels.
Maybe the mechanic needs tweaking for the later levels? Once you hit a certain size you can't really do anything.

Monsters of Rock Paper Scissors by jamesh_uk 2016-04-22T01:02:00

It's a shame you didn't manage to put in any keyboard controls, I doubt that many people have two controllers handy (I know I don't).

Shape Shift by staircase27 2016-04-18T13:36:00

I think this game is desperately in need of a tutorial. Maybe you could flesh it out in your description?

ShapeShifter by csimpsonweb 2016-04-18T16:19:00

Pretty fun :)

Portalshift by Rakowu 2016-04-18T20:41:00

Nice game. I especially like the different feel each character has (the weight of the red one is great). Well done :)

Shifter by eye776 2016-04-25T00:48:00

I really like your graphics work here, I'm definitely going to have a peak at how you did some of it as I learn Godot. A solid idea that could have really benefited from more balancing time (couldn't we all?)

Aidan Musnitzky by musnit 2016-04-20T23:23:00

It doesn't seem to be doing anything for me, it looks cool though.

Who? Me? You? What? by celmore1001 2016-04-25T00:20:00

Well done, it's a nice game (but very hard). I'm not a fan of the low drone all the way though though, it's giving me a headache.

Death to Polys by hugheth 2016-04-18T14:24:00

Very silly and charming. I absolutely love the sound effects and music :)

Polarity Dragon by zondarg 2016-04-25T00:43:00

Congratulations fellow first-timer :)
I really like your music and look forward to seeing more of yours in the future.

Squarcle by bagface 2016-04-19T18:57:00

I really like the mechanic, and some of the levels have cool ideas too. I just wish the controls were more responsive.
