LD35 — Shapeshift

windowframe by managore 2016-04-23T23:51:00

Astonishing work. I did have quite a trial trying to get the game to render successfully (the "inaccessible" version ended up being the only one that worked!), and I had enough issues with Windows that I ended up having to stop early--but that didn't detract in the slightest from what was otherwise an incredibly polished, innovative, and appropriate game!

Looking at the other comments, it seems that you're well-known in these competitions (it is only my first). I will have to look up your past entries, if this one is any indication of the quality of your submissions!
Again, great work!

Box Connector by Thepattybeast 2016-04-22T22:05:00

I really appreciate the effort put into this idea (I myself did a grid puzzle, and I think your idea is quite interesting), but the behavior of the game felt too inconsistent to really become mentally engrossed. That being said, I'm afraid that my entry is suffering the same fate, so we're in similar boats!

In any case, great effort!

Data Break by AsixJin 2016-04-24T00:05:00

The mechanics were all quite interesting, but the gameplay wasn't engaging enough to hold me through the whole thing. However, I did realize early on that you can in fact change the angle of the ball's flight by hitting it on the very edge of the paddle--that small fact made all the difference!

Pegs In Space by Smiley 2016-04-22T21:40:00

Sometimes the simplest ideas make the most addicting and enjoyable products, and this game is definitely an example of that. Great job with creating a consistent and polished mood with the visuals and audio!

I just want a taco by Garris 2016-04-21T23:53:00

On my machine, the game ran without a hitch, and I greatly enjoyed the mechanics of being able to take the abilities of whomever you ate! Nice work!

The Golden Sphere by smbe19 2016-04-23T00:59:00

Very enjoyable game, and the voice narration was a great touch! I found the controls a bit finnicky, but then again it was only a 72-hour development period, so there's only so much one can do.

Wizard of Shapes by puppetmaster 2016-04-23T23:27:00

Very polished game! I found that the hitboxes sometimes felt a bit small, but overall I greatly enjoyed my experience going through the 10 rooms. Ended up skipping room 10 after about 3-5 minutes of trying simply due to time constraints, but given a bit more time I totally would have played through the whole thing!

Flames and Shifting by Jordan 2016-04-22T21:35:00

The graphical and audio design is superb; I'm very impressed! As far as gameplay goes, however, it took me a little bit to figure out the lasers due to all the particle effects. Great job overall though!

System Shift by edve98 2016-04-23T22:51:00

Having never played a terminal-based action game before, I greatly enjoyed the elegance and readability of the interface as well as the responsive controls! I'm not sure how this game fits with the theme, but I commend you for delivering such an entertaining and polished product.

The Creatures of Pflaumotopia by Yazara 2016-04-23T23:58:00

Hmm... the character creator was nice, and I actually found the graphics to be very cute and well-polished, but upon entering the actual "gameplay" area I could not find any other creatures whatsoever.

Even so, I enjoyed the atmosphere and art style of your submission!

Tangram Escape by jhell 2016-04-23T23:18:00

I felt that the mood of the piece worked quite well, and I enjoyed the voice acting! However, I did find myself wishing for slightly more engaging gameplay. However, good work overall!

you must save by jacobturn 2016-04-23T00:31:00

I'm amazed at how well thought-out and implemented this game is coming from a guy Jacob's age! Thank you to his Dad supporting and encouraging him to submit this!

Shapeshift Warriors by mf1214 2016-04-23T01:06:00

I thoroughly enjoyed how interlocked the different aspects of shape-shifting were, and how they all had advantages and disadvantages.
One thing (that I know would have been hard to fix in 48 hours) is that the display is quite small on high-dpi screens, and I had to squint sometimes to figure out what I was doing.

Where Wolf? by squigglez 2016-04-24T00:12:00

Great job, especially with the music! Making a complete product (gameplay, graphics, music and all) is a hard task to complete (even I was unable to get music in on time). But I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and gameplay once I got accustomed to the controls. Thanks for sharing your entry!

Don't Be a Square! by KingEthaniel 2016-04-23T00:40:00

Love the simplicity and appropriateness of the concept! Your "first shot" at music honestly exceeded my expectations; I didn't mute the game at all. Great work!

The Facility by rynti 2016-04-18T23:32:00

As others have said, the controls are a pleasure to use, and beating enemies is very satisfying. Great work!

Darkling by Sloof 2016-04-23T23:10:00

It seemed like a cool concept, but unfortunately on my machine I found that it began to stutter and lag too seriously to make extended gameplay worthwhile. Based on the first minute or so while it ran smoothly, I was thoroughly impressed with the graphics and smooth controls; it seems like a great concept to expand upon!

Stockholmia by RttStudio 2016-04-22T21:38:00

I really enjoyed the strategical ideas presented, and I wish they could be fleshed out a bit more! As it was (others have said), it felt a bit unbalanced at times, but I think it has potential overall.

The Profile by MerriGrape 2016-04-23T01:12:00

I think that you're definitely on to something great with this unique interpretation of the theme! I only wish that you had more time to flesh it out a bit.

Origami by muraisama 2016-04-22T21:53:00

As others have said, the artistic implementation is spot-on, with both audio and visual polish--but the controls and gameplay is sloppy enough to distract from the beautiful design.
