LD35 — Shapeshift

Ejderhalar by arhpositive 2016-04-18T13:31:00

Hi arhpositive,

While not able to play it yet, I've made a couple board games before, and I really like the way this has come together. It is clear from the rules that you've thought a lot about the balance of the game, which puts you above a lot of coded games given the time available. While I agree that the lack of piece removal could potentially be frustrating, there are a lot of 2 player games which handle this well (e.g. Hive), so I am confident that a stalemate could be resolved by experienced players.

I've bookmarked this to try at home :)

Beautiful :)

ShapeShiftBFG by tppr2046 2016-04-19T10:27:00

Really like the models!

A Tetris Piece That Tilted And Fell by cinnamonmelonpig 2016-04-18T19:10:00

Really addictive :)

Shape Invaders by davidB 2016-04-18T14:16:00

Standard model, great delivery

The Tale of Lapkovius by ziege 2016-04-18T19:32:00

Haha, fun and simple :)

Bortman by Rscar 2016-04-18T19:39:00

Really fun! Shame about the lack of death animation

Mazelessness by mikeware 2016-04-18T13:47:00

In theory I am a massive supporter of isometric, but I find the controls difficult to get to grips with here and feel it doesn't add much to the game. Despite that, this is a solid adaptation of a traditional "escape" mechanic and the random generation definitely adds fear!

Go Get Those Boxes by seanarooni 2016-04-18T19:25:00

Surprisingly stressful :D

RescueBot by tomdeal 2016-04-18T13:25:00

Amazingly detailed game to fit into such a short amount of time. Top effort!

Duality by HolyBlackCat 2016-04-18T14:40:00

This blows my mind! A really original adaptation on the "pair controls" concept.

Attached by roban101 2016-04-18T15:27:00

Amazing graphics, really get the concept and the levels are fun :)

Graveyard Shift by Garrett Hoofman 2016-04-18T19:27:00

Really nice graphics, great idea about combining genres, but I think the controls could be slowed down and maybe add some more traditional attack mechanics e.g. knockback, shield, overheat etc.

Bloodshifter by mar3k 2016-04-18T15:21:00

I've never seen an 8-bit card game before!

Really nice balance in the way you've made this - focusing on the mechanics of the card game while giving a very convincing digital finish. An incredible amount of assets for a compo entry aswell, big well done!

Pasowix's Magical Shapeshifting Workshop by glaze_96 2016-04-18T12:51:00

Really funny, great effort on all the graphics, must have taken a while :)

Transmopig by CodeCast 2016-04-19T08:28:00

I really love the concept, having to wait till level 3 for the whale to be unlocked was especially thrilling. Overall I feel that the motion could be a bit faster, but great job on getting the physics so reliable in such a short amount of time

VoodoGoat by ring 2016-04-18T14:39:00

This is halarias. Very original and funny. Love the content warning :D

Spaceshape by Saymon 2016-04-18T14:16:00

Haha this is for some reason really funny. I just really like the way it takes something traditional and turns it into something completely different. Good job.

Dungeon Mayhem 3 by Juin 2016-04-18T13:17:00

Random dungeon - solid, reliable game with theme woven in well. Good job!

Geomatrix by remiv 2016-04-18T14:23:00

You have a syntax error in the shapeShift function due to a missing curly brace after the function() on line 37 of play.js. Fix it soon please, I really want to try this game :D

FLESH TO STONE by tjmolinski 2016-04-18T14:42:00

Pretty neat, great music and around a very smooth aesthetic

Neon Fighters by Sparked99 2016-04-18T12:49:00

I'm a big fan of genre merging, this is great!

Bluboy by Falak 2016-04-19T08:33:00

I really like how many mechanics you've packed into a short amount of time, good stuff!

Frozen Water Maze by zoeinfp 2016-04-19T08:31:00

The concept looks really good, even an unfinished playable demo would make it easier to rate though

Block Shift by gameXcore 2016-04-18T13:43:00

Simple and cool :)

Shape Shifters Inc. - A near-future dystopian manufacturing simulator by whilefun 2016-04-18T12:48:00

So many uses of the word shift! Love it

Shieft by nicso 2016-04-18T12:44:00

So beautiful and yet so metric - a joy to play :)

Shaze (Shape Maze) by Alphius 2016-04-18T12:46:00

I love how simple this is visually and yet the story brings the inanimate shapes to life

TriTurn by Kifuga 2016-04-18T15:16:00

Really nice simple concept. A little bit slow to get started and I'm not sure that I like having to hold down the mouse constantly, but actually quite challenging after the first minute or so :)

It's the perfect idea to develop with combos and powerups etc. The fact is has so much potential definitely means it gets a good rating.

Plato and the 'Caves by qu2 2016-04-18T13:23:00

Really love the concept, and the different characters. I think the random moving enemy which doesn't stop is a little frustrating as you sometimes don't have time to morph which reduces the effectiveness of that tactic. Also I'm not really sure what the pickups do, but I'm hooked so will find out soon enough :)

Loading... by unoion 2016-04-18T13:24:00

Really simple concept, so hard! I challenge anyone to complete the whole thing :D

Across the pipe by chocobodorado 2016-04-19T10:33:00

Quite challenging, which makes it very playable. It took me a while to work out what the tetrahedron was actually useful for (braking) and I'm torn between finding the fixed camera angle frustrating and clever. Despite that, I think the theme is really cool and consistent

Sound Shift by Andy_Voz 2016-04-18T13:16:00

I'm surprised by how interesting this game is to play despite quite a very original take on shape shifting. Great if you're already musically inclined

Battle of Creatures by JNI 2016-04-18T14:24:00

Amazing amount of work on the graphics in such a short amount of time. Classic arena with very well developed enemy classes. Top score.

Chess Brawler Legendary Console Edition by TCD 2016-04-18T15:19:00

My feedback would be next time why not experiment with using javsacript to produce a "fake console" in the web? There should be libraries which achieve the effect.

Really like the ascii art, original theming and music :)

Portalshift by Rakowu 2016-04-18T19:22:00

Really nice changing mechanic :) The music reminds me of the old AoE games

Pluto's Tears by kestrelgames 2016-04-19T08:18:00

This is really pretty and an incredibly smooth mechanic. Well don!

55 Days by V4lesti 2016-04-19T11:38:00

This is so pretty! There is so much to experiment with. I feel that the balance would be improved if you had more space to put the buildings in, so that you could leave spaces to fill in later on. I think it would be also good to have some sort of unlocking system based on initial choices in the game to affect the later game.

Death to Polys by hugheth 2016-04-18T12:39:00

Thanks for the comments snowy - I think the bug is when you get to the edge of the board :P

Death to Polys by hugheth 2016-04-18T13:14:00

Hi swedishwb, it's definitely fair I took "self produced" music to the extreme. Fortunately you can unlock mute. Did you have any usability issues with the tutorial itself, or just not your cup of tea?

Death to Polys by hugheth 2016-04-18T15:13:00

I mainly wanted to test that I could get something solid done in the time available as it's my first one, and it definitely shows I kinda made it up as a went along :)

If you want another hint - you can still capture buildings once they've grown by placing scaffold around them at a higher level. So as the game progress you need to make sure you grow your metal resources to be able to reach the higher levels well. I found that having common passageways a few blocks above the ground helped with this, and focus on capturing land rather than eliminating the police.

Shape Shifts by htspencer88 2016-04-18T14:26:00

Better instructions in the description has helped - this is pretty fun and challenging. Really pretty too :)
